It isn’t enough that you carry out a market research. You may also want to consider running a crash course in a bible school, so that you can have firsthand experience on how things are run. Whilst, some of the courses being offered in these schools vary from country to country, you may still want to opt for courses that are short in duration.

During these periods you may want to find out the types of courses offered, the day to day operations and activities and how they are run, and a host of other things that you can physically find out for yourself. 4. Find the Purpose Why You Want One

After you have taken the steps mentioned earlier, then you can now find the purpose why you want to start a bible school. Deciphering why you really want one means that you can easily come to grasp with what the students who attend your school stand to gain as well as the kind of graduates you would be churning out.

This is because it isn’t enough that you just want to start one for profit. There has to be an underlying factor why you want one to be set up. You may consider starting with your local church by announcing or printing flyers about your bible school. This is so that so that you start from the known to the unknown. Thereafter, you may consider outsiders and non church members. The internet is also a good area through which to market your school.

How To Start A Christian School With Limited Funds

In 2002, God placed on my heart a call for the church I was pastoring to start a Christian school. At that time, I was unable to locate someone to lead us through the process in any significant way. However, it was God’s plan, and we successfully started a school with 37 students. By the beginning of the seventh year, our school had grown to 388 students.

Starting a Christian school is a very challenging endeavor, but it can be done. At RenewaNation , we are fully committed to making it as simple as possible.

Over the last few years, we have been involved in helping launch many Christian schools. We have been searching throughout this process for the best practices to ensure long-term success. It has been a trial and error process as we tried to discover and build a system that can be reproduced across the country and the world by organizations both large and small.

We have many people call us each year about starting new schools. They always tell us they need teachers and the money to pay them. They also mention in passing it would be great to have enough students to pay all the bills, but they don’t think this is possible in the first few years.

In the 1960s and ’70s, thousands of Christian schools were launched. Many of them used a system that allowed small organizations with small numbers of students to open schools. Though some of these schools faced significant challenges, they were the genesis of the Christian school movement in the United States and helped produce several million Christian adults who are impacting the church and our world today. Though the school I started wasn’t launched until 2002, I used some of the same principles and practices that were used in the ’60s and ’70s.

Key Components Necessary to Successfully Start a Christian School

A passionate, called, effective leader who possesses a biblical worldview

Committed, sacrificial teachers who are able and willing to donate a majority of their salaries (if necessary) in the first three years of the school’s existence

A church or organization willing to allow the use of their facilities at a minimal cost

A willingness to start small

Startup cost given by a church or group of donors

Let’s break down each of these components in more detail.

1. A Passionate, Effective Leader

In the 1960s and ’70s, most Christian schools were started by a visionary pastor. These pastors were motivated by the removal of prayer and Bible reading from public schools and were spurred into action. In most cases, the church the pastor was leading became the startup-funding source as well as the facility host for the school. Most of these schools were started on a wing and a prayer. There were many weaknesses in these schools, but at the end of the day, their students were not secularized, and many of them are the Christian leaders of today. I am one of those leaders.

Today, we hear less from pastors but more from strong parent leaders and Christian public school teachers who sense the call to start Christian schools. They realize that 16,000 hours of K-12 secularized education is not helping their children develop a biblical worldview and in reality, is helping them develop a completely unbiblical worldview. I am confident that one of the greatest motivations for my father to start a Christian school in 1976 was the fact that he had eight children (nine by 1978) he was determined to raise for Christ. Eight of those nine children have been in vocational Christian ministry for most of their adult lives.

This passionate, effective, called leader can be a businessman or woman, an educator, or simply someone who is skilled in leading others to accomplish a significant mission. They need excellent people skills, a high level of energy, and a strong inner makeup that does not quit in the face of adversity. They also need to be an excellent team builder. We have seen pastors, parents, and even grandparents be the key leader in starting Christian schools.

2. Committed and Sacrificial Teachers

As leaders in this movement to give children a biblical worldview education, we must recognize that our cause is so critically important that we must do whatever it takes to be successful. In most cases, we start out at a financial disadvantage. Unlike public schools, we receive very little financial assistance outside of student tuition and gifts from donors. If our Christian school ancestors from the 1960s and ’70s had been unwilling to sacrifice greatly, millions of American Christians today would likely not exist. Though I am often disgusted with people from both sides of the political spectrum, the Christian schools that started in the 1960s and ’70s produced millions of voters with conservative values. Government schools are mass-producing future voters with values inconsistent with a biblical worldview.

If it had not been for teachers who were willing to sacrifice financially, at a tremendous level, the Christian school movement would never have been birthed in America. My high school algebra teacher had a master’s degree in math from a prestigious university. He made algebra come to life. He was a fantastic teacher! However, at night I would see him working in a department store to supplement his income. This always bothered me, and I didn’t fully understand why he had to work this second job. Now I understand and have a deep sense of gratefulness to him for his willingness to sacrifice and provide me with a biblical worldview education.

Let me make it very clear that I believe every school should be able to grow to a place where teachers make a livable wage. This should be a passion for every school. However, if we are going to start thousands of new schools, it will require teachers who are willing to sacrifice deeply in the early years.

As we were building the Christian school we launched in 2002, we were blessed to find qualified teachers who had another source of income. Some were recently retired from public education and were eager to teach in a Christian environment. Others had a spouse with a strong income and benefits or were willing to teach in order to receive the tuition benefit we provided our employees. The one common denominator with all of our teachers was the fact that they were passionate about giving children a Christian education. This, above any other factor, led them to make the necessary sacrifices to teach in a Christian school.

3. Church or Organization Providing Facilities at Minimal Cost

In every city and town, there are scores of churches sitting empty all week long. When presented with the tremendous opportunity to impact children through the use of their facilities, many of these churches will open their doors. This is not to say significant challenges don’t exist. However, when the vision to impact children’s lives is presented properly, many churches will catch the vision and even become partners at some level. Though most Christian schools start in churches, we have seen others start in parachurch buildings and even in buildings owned by local business people. In reality, we don’t see this as a major hurdle in most cases. Often, the school will need to raise funds to refit and repurpose the space to accommodate a school. However, if a school starts fairly small with just a few grades, this cost can be quite manageable.

4. Willingness to Start Small

I am not a small thinker. With God’s help, I have been growing organizations my entire adult life. I want to see every Christian school grow to reach hundreds of students. However, I have concluded that in most cases, starting a Christian school that will immediately offer 12-13 grades is not feasible. Again, there are exceptions, but they are rare. In the school I started in 2002, we began with K-8th grade and carried our 8th-graders forward until we had K-12th. In most cases, even starting K-8th will be too much. Our recommendation is to start with K-2nd or at the most K-5th grade. If a church already has a preschool, it is a very simple transition to start adding kindergarten and other grades that follow. By starting with just a few grades, you only need two to three teachers, and one of them can serve as the lead teacher or administrator. As the school develops a reputation for excellence, more students will apply which in turn facilitates finding more teachers and extending to additional grades.

In starting small, schools can be excellent, but they will not be ideal in every area. One teacher may teach two grades. It has been proven this method can work very well, but ideally, as the school grows, each grade will have a dedicated teacher. Starting small will also mean tuition will likely be less than other schools that are more established and have more programs to offer. We need to give parents a strong incentive to take a risk on a new school. When tuition is extremely competitive and affordable, and when the educational experience and atmosphere is superior, growth happens. As the school grows in reputation and value, people are willing to pay what it costs to operate the school.

5. Startup Costs

Startup costs can vary greatly depending on the involvement of the organization that will be hosting the school and a number of other factors. If a new school is using a facility that has tables, chairs, desks, etc., already in place, this reduces the cost. If a new school is moving into an empty building, the costs are much greater. We have seen schools start with as little as $10,000 in upfront costs; however, the estimated average cost of starting a school with three to four grades will land somewhere in the $50,000 to $100,000 range. If there is a strong church involved in the startup, most of this will be provided by the church and its members. For those starting a school that is not connected to one church, funding can come from multiple church partners and individuals who believe in the new school. We do not view startup funds as a great obstacle to starting new schools. With a strong, clear vision, funding sources will be available.

There are many other factors involved in starting a Christian school. However, they are easily understood and implemented when the key factors discussed above are in place.

If you are a Christian entrepreneur who’s feeling overwhelmed at the thought of creating or writing a business plan, I have some good news for you.

A business plan doesn’t have to be a massive or scary document. Also, it doesn’t have to contain every single detail about your business. There are one-page business plans that are as effective as those massive ones, so there’s no need to avoid creating a business plan because you think you’re incapable.

I know some of you may be wondering why you need a business plan. Let me tell you some important reasons why a business plan is a good idea for your business.

Reasons Why You Need a Christian Business Plan

• To serve as a road map or guide for your business
• A business plan will keep you focused, and provide clarity on the most important aspects of your business
• Helps you avoid mistakes when starting a business
• Allows you to set out your goals for your business, and to keep you accountable

While it’s possible to run a business without a plan, in my experience, it’s easier to stay focused and accomplish your goals when you have a business plan to guide your decisions. A business plan is also a useful tool to refer to when you need to assess how well your business is doing.

HOW TO CREATE A SIMPLE CHRISTIAN BUSINESS PLAN

1. choose your foundational scriptures.

As a Christian, the Bible should be the foundation for everything you do. This also applies to your business.

If you’re just starting a business or still trying to create a business plan, I want you to think of some Bible verses you want to anchor your business on. These verses will serve as your foundational scriptures, and you can refer to them every time you need to remind yourself why you’re in business, or whenever you are going through hard times.

Your foundational scriptures can be some of your favorite Bible verses, promises from the Bible or anything that you choose. There are no rules.

Here are some of mine:

“In all toil there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty.” (Proverbs 14:23)

“Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.” (Proverbs 22:29)

“ For every beast of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills.” (Psalm 50:10)

“You shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.” (Deuteronomy 8:18)

2. CHOOSE SOME CHRISTIAN VALUES YOU WILL APPLY IN YOUR BUSINESS

As a business owner, you’re faced with all sorts of temptaion, and it’s easy to stray if you’re not very discerning.

Very often, it starts with little things, like justifying business practices you know are not ethical. Soon you completely forget you’re a Christian and start doing what everyone does. But, there’s a biblical way of doing business , and that’s what you should embrace as a Christian entrepreneur.

So what godly business principles are you going to apply to your business?

Take some time to make a list of some Christian business values you’ll use to operate your business. You can always change them or add to them as your business grows, but it’s important to know what values will shape your business, so they can serve as a reminder when you’re faced with temptation.

Some examples of Christian business values include:

• Accountability
• Treating your customers with love
• A commitment to being a faithful steward

There are lots of Christian business values you can apply to your business, so pick a few that you can use to run your business for the glory of God.

3. WRITE YOUR MISSION STATEMENT

Remember how excited you were when you first got the idea to become an entrepreneur? You probably had some big dreams and goals and wanted to change lives or solve a specific problem.

Your mission statement is the place where you basically articulate your reason for becoming an entrepreneur. Your mission statement should be short and to the point. All you need to do is answer these two questions: what does your business do, and whom do you serve?

If you can answer these two questions clearly, it means you know why your business exists, and you know who your customers are.

Many entrepreneurs waste so much time trying to come up with a powerful or compelling mission statement they forget to address these two basic questions. Please, don’t make that mistake!

Now, spend some time thinking about the answers to these questions, write your answers down, then keep your mission statement somewhere visible.

4. CREATE YOUR VISION STATEMENT

A vision statement is an important part of a Christian business plan, so make sure you spend some time thinking this through.

While your mission statement focuses on the present and the reason for your business’s existence (aka your why), your vision statement focuses on the future. Your vision statement answers questions like: where do you want to be in five years? What are the long-term goals for your business? How do you plan to achieve those goals?

Just like your mission statement, your vision statement should be short and inspiring. It should answer the “what” of your business. For example, what do you want to be known for in the future?

Your vision statement will give you direction, and also motivate you to keep going when you encounter some business hurdles. So take the time to write a vision statement. Keep it somewhere visible so you can revisit it whenever you need some motivation.

5. PRACTICAL AND LEGAL PLAN

This section basically deals with all the practical, legal and regulatory aspect of your Christian business plan.

In this section, you can state your business name, and describe your business structure (sole proprietor, partnership, LLC, etc)? You can also include things like your business address, business bank account, website address, social media accounts, and stuff like that.

If you need some business licenses or permits for your business, this is where you make a note of them. Include information like where you can obtain the licenses and how much they cost. If you need insurance for your business, this is where you state what kind of insurance you need and other details about the insurance.

This section covers all the practical, legal and regulatory things you need to do to start, and run your business legally and professionally.

6. CREATE A FINANCIAL PLAN

Yes, you need a financial plan if you want to succeed in business.

Every Christian business plan template I have seen has a section for this because your financial plan is one of the most important criteria to determine the viability of your business.

So what should you include in your financial plan?

Your financial plan should include at a minimum the following things :

• The amount of capital you need and the amount you have.
• How your business will make money.
• How much you need to run your business for the first six months, and how much revenue you expect your business to generate. It’s sometimes difficult to predict business cash flow, so just come up with the best estimate that you can.

Daniel and his wife, Tracy, have been married for over forty years and have two children and seven grandchildren. Daniel is an ordained minister, a published songwriter and recording artist. He holds a bachelor of music degree in vocal performance from the University of Colorado and a bachelor of theology degree from Christian Life School of Theology. Daniel is the president of Daniel Amstutz Collective, Inc., a non-profit that connects generations in spirit and truth. Arthur Meintjes

Arthur Meintjes, originally from South Africa, trained at Christ for the Nations in Dallas, Texas. Mike and Carrie Pickett were married in 2006 and have two children. They lived sixteen years in Russia as full-time missionaries. Carrie graduated from Charis Bible College in 1999 and moved to Russia to plant a Charis Campus, where Mike would get connected and eventually direct Andrew Wommack Ministries, Russia. Now they are the Executive Vice Presidents of Charis Bible College as well as instructors, dedicated to using the Word of God to raise up leaders.

Elizabeth fumero muren.

Elizabeth was born in Honduras to missionary parents. After marrying her husband, Robert, they traveled in thirteen countries with a stage musical called The Covenant , using song, music, and dance to tell the story of God’s love for His people. In October 2012, their friends in Norway introduced Robert and Elizabeth to the teachings of Andrew Wommack. Shortly thereafter, Elizabeth contacted Andrew for his feedback on their screenplay, and they were invited to perform God with Us at Charis Bible College. The Murens have been producing musicals in partnership with Andrew Wommack Ministries and Charis since 2014, with the sole purpose of reaching the world with the Word of God.

Mark Cowart was born on April 2nd, 1958. He and Linda were married in 1985 and have three children and two grandchildren. Mark began in ministry in 1983 when he started volunteering in his local church. He and Andrew Wommack met at a meeting in 1978 and he now serves as the Director of the Year 3 Practical Government School. Mark Cowart is also the senior pastor of Church For All Nations, where he focuses on empowering people to carry out the Great Commission.

Billy epperhart.

Billy Epperhart began in ministry in 1978 and gained experience as a youth pastor and senior pastor. As a CEO and Founder of his own real estate company, he owned and supervised a multi-million-dollar real estate portfolio located in five different real estate markets. Billy is also a public speaker who has authored seven books. Billy is now the CEO of Andrew Wommack Ministries, Charis Bible College and Truth and Liberty. His two nonprofits; WealthBuilders and Tricord Global, help people to make sense of making money for making a difference.

Lawson Perdue

Lawson Perdue and his wife, Barbara, have been in full-time ministry for over thirty years and are the senior pastors of Charis Christian Center in Colorado Springs. Lawson was called to preach in 1978 through the ministry of Andrew Wommack. He challenges his students to break out of the mold, emphasizing abundant life and identity in Jesus Christ.

Daniel bennett.

Daniel Bennett’s journey with Charis began in 2007 while he served in the U.S. Air Force. He completed the first year of Charis by mail, and later graduated from Charis in Colorado in 2009. He also completed Charis’ Business School and earned a bachelor’s degree in communication from UCCS.  Starting as a volunteer at Charis extension campuses in the U.S. and abroad, Daniel joined Charis’ staff in Colorado in 2014. Since then, he has served in various roles, including as the Dean of Students and as an Executive Director. Daniel’s passion is discipleship, and as an instructor at Charis, his favorite topics are friendship with God and practical wisdom.

Wendell parr.

Wendell Parr was born on March 19th, 1943. Wendell and Linda were married in 1963 and have two children, one grandchild, and two great-grandchildren. Wendell started in ministry in 1973 when he began pastoring a church. He became connected with Andrew Wommack in 1989 at the Minister’s Conference in Buena Vista. He would go on to help Andrew start Charis Bible College in 1994 as well as plant the first international Charis campus in England in 1997. Wendell continues to teach at Charis Bible College and holds the title of Ministry Ambassador; sharing the Word of God and encouraging believers to keep their eyes on Jesus.

Director of Ministry School

Greg Mohr was born on December 4th, 1951. He is a graduate of Rhema Bible Training Center, and has earned a master’s degree in leadership from Southwestern Christian University. Greg and Janice were married in 1971 and have four children and twelve grandchildren. He began in ministry in 1976 through street ministry, a bus ministry, as well as being a children’s pastor. Greg served as senior pastor of River of Life Church in Decatur, Texas, for twenty-four years. He heard Andrew’s teachin g on a cassette tape in 1981 and from there invited him to speak at his church every year. He now serves as Director of Ministry School, teaching and helping students grow in wisdom, Christlikeness, and grace.

Barry bennett.

Barry Bennett was born on August 18th, 1952. Barry is a graduate of Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas, Texas. He and Betty Kay were married in 1978 and have three children and eight grandchildren. Barry began in the Ministry in 1978 as a missionary in Mexico, and would go on to serve for 12 years in Chile and Guatemala. Barry was introduced to Andrew Wommack through his radio show and came to work at Andrew Wommack Ministries in 2007 and is now the Senior Instructor at Charis Bible College, Woodland Park, ministering on many topics focusing on the goodness of God and hearing His voice. 

Executive Director of World Outreach

David briggs.

David serves as the Executive Director of World Outreach, bringing decades of experience and dedication to his role. Married to Melta for 49 years, they are proud parents to four children and grandparents to ten grandchildren. David holds a B.A. in Bible Theology and an M.S. in Inter-Cultural Development, specializing in Micro-Finance & Micro-Enterprise development. His career spans both the private sector, where he owned a business, and ministry since 1974, working with non-profit and faith-based organizations across 45 countries. As a partner and Co-founder of Tricord Global with Billy Epperhart, David oversees international operations. Introduced to Andrew Wommack’s ministry in 1978, he has also contributed to the Charis Business School and Global Training.

Rick McFarland

Rick McFarland was born on December 3rd, 1967. Rick and Joann were married in 2001. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing in 1991. He then graduated from Rhema Bible Training Center in 1993. He also attended and graduated from the School of the Local Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1996. Rick was a singles pastor at Grace Church for sixteen years and moved to Colorado in 2011 to attend Charis Bible College with his wife, Joann, where he would graduate from the Year 3 Ministry School. Rick is the senior pastor of River Rock Church in Colorado Springs and teaches several core classes at Charis including Principles of Grace and Faith and How to Study the Bible.

Chief of Staff

A 2013 graduate of Charis, Will came to the ministry with a background in public education, later completing certifications in formal process improvement and business administration. He began his journey with the ministry in the call center, and since that time, has overseen diverse departments such as Project Management, Process Improvement, Conferences and Events, Product Fulfillment, Communications, and College Operations.   Having demonstrated   an inspired ability to train and develop leaders, he now serves Mike & Carrie Pickett in building out Charis Bible College worldwide.

Audrey Mack

Audrey Mack is a graduate of Rhema Bible Training Center and Victory World Mission Center and has been in the ministry since 1987. Audrey has been healed of bone cancer in 1999, and has a burning desire to bring the message of faith, grace and healing to this generation.  

Audrey married her husband Frederick in 1999. Frederick is a graduate of Charis Bible College but also a successful general contractor who sees his business as an avenue to serve and share his faith. Audrey’s joy is to connect people with God’s heart, teaching them to walk with the Holy Spirit so that they may become fruitful and fulfill their God given destiny.

Living at High Altitude Tips

• Slowly acclimate. Try to stay below 7,000 feet the first day
• Give your body time to adjust. Avoid strenuous exercise the first day. 
• Limit alcohol intake. Alcohol binds oxygen and water and robs your body of these two important nutrients. It also slows the acclimation process.
• Drink more water. Keep to a minimum of 1 liter of water for every 4 hours of inactivity and 1 liter of water for every 2 hours of activity. 
• Always travel with a companion. If someone begins to experience severe coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, or chest pain, get him or her to a lower altitude as quickly as possible.
• Check with a medical advisor. The effects of some drugs can be greatly increased at higher altitudes. Be sure to check with your doctor before exerting yourself at higher altitudes.

People will acclimatize at different rates. Make sure all members of your family are properly acclimated before going higher.

 If you have any breathing difficulties if may be best for you to live in Colorado Springs and come up to school for the 4-5 hours a day and then return to Colorado Springs

• Tire wear and air pressure – you’ll need good tread for winter driving
• Antifreeze level and freeze line
• Windshield blades – New blades to fight ice build-up
• Gas tank- Don’t let it get below a quarter of a tank

Keep a “Winter Supply Box” in your car during the Winter:

• Ice scraper and snow brush
• Properly inflated spare tire, wheel wrench, and tripod jack
• Shovel Bag of salt or cat litter for better tire traction or to melt snow
• Flashlight and extra batteries
• First aid kit Windshield cleaner – antifreeze type
• Matches in a waterproof container
• Nonperishable, high-energy foods
• Bottled water
• Winter coat
• Blankets, mittens, socks, and hats
• Snow Boots and extra socks

Transportation

In Colorado Springs public transportation is available with Uber, Lyft, and Mountain Metropolitan Transit www.coloradosprings.gov/mountain-metro

In Colorado Springs you may be able to bicycle to the store or walk to nearby restaurants, but in order to get to Woodland Park and once in Woodland Park, public transportation is virtually non-existent. Biking/walking is not feasible for transportation to school in most situations due to mountainous terrain and wintery weather; it can snow as early as September and as late as May. Vehicle registration and insurance is required in Colorado, as well as double license plates

What is a School Business Plan?

A business plan provides a snapshot of your school as it stands today, and lays out your growth plan for the next five years. It explains your business goals and your strategies for reaching them. It also includes market research to support your plans.

A business plan will help you raise funding, if needed, and plan out the growth of your school to improve your chances of success. Your school business plan is a living document that should be updated annually as your company grows and changes.

With regards to funding, the main sources of funding for schools are donations and gifts, tuition, personal savings, credit cards, bank loans, and angel investors. When it comes to bank loans, banks will want to review your business plan and gain confidence that you will be able to repay your loan and interest. To acquire this confidence, the loan officer will not only want to ensure that your financials are reasonable, but they will also want to see a professional plan. Such a plan will give them the confidence that you can successfully and professionally operate a business. Personal savings and bank loans are the most common funding paths for schools.

How to write a business plan for a school.

If you want to start a school or expand your current one, you need a business plan. The guide below details the necessary information for how to write each essential component of your school business plan.

Executive Summary

Your executive summary provides an introduction to your business plan, but it is normally the last section you write because it provides a summary of each key section of your plan.

The goal of your executive summary is to quickly engage the reader. Explain to them the kind of school you are running and the status. For example, are you a startup, do you have a school that you would like to grow, or are you operating a chain of schools?

Next, provide an overview of each of the subsequent sections of your plan.

• Give a brief overview of the school industry.
• Discuss the type of school you are operating.
• Detail your direct competitors. Give an overview of your target customers.
• Provide a snapshot of your marketing strategy. Identify the key members of your team.
• Offer an overview of your financial plan.

Company Overview

In your company overview, you will detail the type of school you are operating.

For example, you might specialize in one of the following types of schools:

• Private K-12 school : this type of school typically charges tuition, and may be affiliated with a religious organization, or specialize in a particular learning method.
• Charter school: this type of school offers primary or secondary education for a tuition, and may receive some public funding, and/or donations. These schools require their students to take state-mandated exams.
• Special subject school: this type of school specializes in teaching a specific subject, such as driving, first-aid, self-defense, fine arts, language, or general tutoring.
• Preschool: this type of school typically serves children who are aged 3 and 4. These schools prepare young children to enter formal education, and are funded by some combination of tuition, donations, and government grants.

In addition to explaining the type of school you will operate, the company overview needs to provide background on the business.

Include answers to questions such as:

• When and why did you start the business?
• What milestones have you achieved to date? Milestones could include the number of students served, the number of students accepted into elite formal education institutions, etc.
• Your legal business Are you incorporated as an S-Corp? An LLC? A sole proprietorship? Explain your legal structure here.

Industry Analysis

In your industry or market analysis, you need to provide an overview of the school industry.

While this may seem unnecessary, it serves multiple purposes.

First, researching the school industry educates you. It helps you understand the market in which you are operating.

Secondly, market research can improve your marketing strategy, particularly if your analysis identifies market trends.

The third reason is to prove to readers that you are an expert in your industry. By conducting the research and presenting it in your plan, you achieve just that.

The following questions should be answered in the industry analysis section of your school business plan:

• How big is the school industry (in dollars)?
• Is the market declining or increasing?
• Who are the key competitors in the market?
• Who are the key suppliers in the market?
• What trends are affecting the industry?
• What is the industry’s growth forecast over the next 5 – 10 years?
• What is the relevant market size? That is, how big is the potential target market for your school? You can extrapolate such a figure by assessing the size of the market in the entire country and then applying that figure to your local population.

Customer Analysis

The customer analysis section of your school business plan must detail the customers you serve and/or expect to serve.

The following are examples of customer segments: families with elementary-aged children, families with high-school-aged children, families with preschool children.

As you can imagine, the customer segment(s) you choose will have a great impact on the type of school you operate. Clearly, families with high schoolers would respond to different marketing promotions than families with preschoolers, for example.

Try to break out your target customers in terms of their demographic and psychographic profiles. With regards to demographics, including a discussion of the ages, genders, locations, and income levels of the potential customers you seek to serve.

Psychographic profiles explain the wants and needs of your target customers. The more you can recognize and define these needs, the better you will do in attracting and retaining your customers.

Competitive Analysis

Your competitive analysis should identify the indirect and direct competitors your business faces and then focus on the latter.

Direct competitors are other schools.

Indirect competitors are other options that customers have to purchase from that aren’t directly competing with your product or service. This includes public schools, virtual schools, and families who do homeschooling. You need to mention such competition as well.

For each such competitor, provide an overview of their business and document their strengths and weaknesses. Unless you once worked at your competitors’ businesses, it will be impossible to know everything about them. But you should be able to find out key things about them such as

• What types of students do they serve?
• What type of school are they?
• What is their pricing (premium, low, etc.)?
• What are they good at?
• What are their weaknesses?

With regards to the last two questions, think about your answers from the customers’ perspective. And don’t be afraid to ask your competitors’ customers what they like most and least about them.

The final part of your competitive analysis section is to document your areas of competitive advantage. For example:

• Will you provide specialized instruction, either in subject or in method?
• Will you offer courses or services that your competition doesn’t?
• Will you provide better customer service?
• Will you offer better pricing?

Think about ways you will outperform your competition and document them in this section of your plan.  

Marketing Plan

Traditionally, a marketing plan includes the four P’s: Product, Price, Place, and Promotion. For a school business plan, your marketing strategy should include the following:

Product : In the product section, you should reiterate the type of school that you documented in your company overview. Then, detail the specific products or services you will be offering. For example, will you provide religious-focused K-8 education, college preparatory courses, or single-subject instruction like driving or fine arts?

Price : Document the prices you will offer and how they compare to your competitors. Essentially in the product and price sub-sections of your plan, you are presenting the courses and/or extracurricular activities you offer and their prices.

Place : Place refers to the site of your school. Document where your company is situated and mention how the site will impact your success. For example, is your school located in a growing neighborhood, in the city center, or will you operate purely online? Discuss how your site might be the ideal location for your customers.

Promotions : The final part of your school marketing plan is where you will document how you will drive potential customers to your location(s). The following are some promotional methods you might consider:

• Advertise in local papers, radio stations and/or magazines
• Reach out to websites
• Distribute flyers
• Engage in email marketing
• Advertise on social media platforms
• Improve the SEO (search engine optimization) on your website for targeted keywords

Operations Plan

While the earlier sections of your business plan explained your goals, your operations plan describes how you will meet them. Your operations plan should have two distinct sections as follows.

Everyday short-term processes include all of the tasks involved in running your school, including answering calls, planning and delivering instruction, applying for grants, fundraising, performing administrative tasks, overseeing instructors, handling discipline, scheduling and monitoring extracurricular activities, etc.

Long-term goals are the milestones you hope to achieve. These could include the dates when you expect to enroll your Xth student, or when you hope to reach $X in revenue. It could also be when you expect to expand your school to a new city.  

Management Team

To demonstrate your school’s potential to succeed, a strong management team is essential. Highlight your key players’ backgrounds, emphasizing those skills and experiences that prove their ability to grow a company.

Ideally, you and/or your team members have direct experience in managing schools. If so, highlight this experience and expertise. But also highlight any experience that you think will help your business succeed.

If your team is lacking, consider assembling an advisory board. An advisory board would include 2 to 8 individuals who would act as mentors to your business. They would help answer questions and provide strategic guidance. If needed, look for advisory board members with experience in running a school or experience with public school administration or who has served on a public school board.  

Financial Plan

Your financial plan should include your 5-year financial statement broken out both monthly or quarterly for the first year and then annually. Your financial statements include your income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statements.

Income Statement

An income statement is more commonly called a Profit and Loss statement or P&L. It shows your revenue and then subtracts your costs to show whether you turned a profit or not.

In developing your income statement, you need to devise assumptions. For example, will you enroll 100 or 1,000 students per semester, and/or offer extracurricular activities? And will sales grow by 2% or 10% per year? As you can imagine, your choice of assumptions will greatly impact the financial forecasts for your business. As much as possible, conduct research to try to root your assumptions in reality.

Balance Sheets

Balance sheets show your assets and liabilities. While balance sheets can include much information, try to simplify them to the key items you need to know about. For instance, if you spend $50,000 on building out your school, this will not give you immediate profits. Rather it is an asset that will hopefully help you generate profits for years to come. Likewise, if a lender writes you a check for $50,000, you don’t need to pay it back immediately. Rather, that is a liability you will pay back over time.

Cash Flow Statement

Your cash flow statement will help determine how much money you need to start or grow your business, and ensure you never run out of money. What most entrepreneurs and business owners don’t realize is that you can turn a profit but run out of money and go bankrupt.

When creating your Income Statement and Balance Sheets be sure to include several of the key costs needed in starting or growing a school:

• Cost of equipment and supplies
• Payroll or salaries paid to staff
• Business insurance
• Other start-up expenses (if you’re a new business) like legal expenses, permits, computer software, and equipment

Attach your full financial projections in the appendix of your plan along with any supporting documents that make your plan more compelling. For example, you might include your school location lease or a list of elective courses or extracurricular activities you will offer.  

Writing a business plan for your school is a worthwhile endeavor. If you follow the template above, by the time you are done, you will truly be an expert. You will understand the school industry, your competition, and your customers. You will develop a marketing strategy and will understand what it takes to launch and grow a successful school.

If you're a children's minster or director, you probably have the responsibility of planning, coordinating and overseeing the development of a major event at your church. The planning of VBS is crucial and felt church-wide, but the benefits are lasting.

Although VBS is a week-long event, preparation begins months beforehand. Use this summary as a reminder of the tasks to be completed before, during and after VBS.

Also, don't forget to provide your VBS leaders with all the resources they need to successfully begin planning at your church.

4-6 Months Before VBS

Lead your church to begin praying regularly for Vacation Bible School.

Lead the church to vote on or approve your VBS director.

Set dates for VBS on the church calendar.

Determine the audiences for whom you will provide-preschoolers, children, youth, adults, special needs.

Prepare the budget and submit it to the church for approval.

Set goals for enrollment, prospects, and offering.

Vacation Bible School (VBS) is a great way to engage families and children in the church community. Also, it can provide them with a fun, educational, and spiritual growth summer experience. However, running a successful VBS requires careful planning and organization. Keep reading for top tips to help you run a successful VBS.

Whether you run a five-day VBS in one week, or spread it out every Monday night throughout the summer, these tips can help you find success in your Vacation Bible School planning.

Planning Tips For VBS At Small Churches

Create a list and order materials at least 3-4 months ahead of time. You need materials such as curriculum books, craft supplies, decorations, and snacks. Order materials well in advance to ensure they arrive on time. If you are using a curriculum, it should have a list of materials needed.

It’s that time of year and everyone is working on planning VBS. In this article, I’ll give you a simple 9 step process for organizing vacation Bible school. Then I’ll share some of my best practical tips about vacation Bible school. As always, you can leave a comment and help me make this resource better.

Practical Tips For Planning Vacation Bible School

• Begin early . Some people work best under pressure, but this is not true for team efforts such as vacation Bible school. Don’t wait until the last minute! If possible, have your volunteer roster filled several weeks early. Starting things late will cause stress and distract your focus from ministering to the children.
• Talk about it . Start talking to people as soon as you can. Be vocal about the progress of your VBS plan all through the process. This will help people share your excitement and provide redundant channels of communication. I’ve discovered that talking about Bible school with our church volunteers is a great way get feedback and to refine my ideas.
• Learn from last year . Even if this is your first year as VBS director, you can still get some great information by asking about what worked in the past. So, talk to volunteers from last year and see what they liked and what needs improvement.
• Have fun . Doing God’s work should bring joy into your life. Don’t let all the details and worries rob you of that. Besides, if the leaders aren’t having fun, then the kids will suffer.
• Find ideas online . Most major VBS publishers have forums on their website for churches to share ideas about the curriculum. This can be a great source of inspiration. Here are a few that I’ve checked out: LifeWay, Group, Gospel Light
• Keep it simple . This was the biggest lesson I learned after my first year leading Bible school. All those bells and whistles were distracting our people from the real ministry with the children. So, whenever possible go simple. Spend your time and energy on what will make a lasting difference, like relationships, prayer and teaching.

How to Quickly Plan an Amazing Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School brings kids together every summer for a fun-filled week of adventure, crafts, and learning God’s Word. If your church is offering its own program this year, here are a few steps on how to pull off an amazing VBS even if you haven’t started planning yet.

Step #1: Decide on the Basics

Before you do anything, choose the when, where, and how of your VBS week. This checklist will help to keep you focused on the basics:

• Dates — VBS is typically one week during the summer months.
• Location — Do you have capacity at your church or will you need to find a larger meeting place?
• Budget — Details of planning VBS can easily get out of hand. Creating a budget will help you to stay focused on the important items and leave out unnecessary extras.
• Fees — Will you charge a fee? If so, how much?
• Registration — Determine how you want people to register their kids for VBS (online, paper form, etc.)

Step #2: Gather a Planning Team

Now that you’ve created the outline of your plan, assemble a group of staff and volunteers for your VBS planning team. A handful of team members should be enough, but it’s a good idea to gather individuals with an interest and passion for VBS.

Step #3: Create the Plan

There are so many elements that go into planning any event, especially one that lasts an entire week. To help you stay organized, try breaking down your “to-dos” into categories like these:

Communications

This includes creating graphics for promotional materials, website updates, online event registration, video announcements, and anything else that requires some form of digital or printed communication. Work with your church’s communications team to develop a plan to invite those in the congregation and community. A comprehensive plan should consider Facebook ads, billboards, announcements on local news outlets, as well as outdoor signage at your church.

Most likely, your VBS program will be held on location at your church. If so, discuss which rooms you will need for the week. Based on the curriculum you’re using, provide details on how each room should be set up with tables, chairs, audio/visual, and craft material. Also, address whether or not you’ll want any additional signage throughout the facility.

What kind of meals and snacks will you be preparing each day? Create a menu and make sure you have enough people with food handler permits to help prepare the food.  Include a field in the registration form to ask about any food sensitivities and create a process for how to ensure those are followed during VBS.

Referring again to your curriculum, as many have themes, determine what decorations you’ll need for the main stage, classrooms, and central areas of your church.

Make a list of the volunteer roles needed to prepare for VBS (setting up the week or weekend before) and throughout VBS week. Tips to getting volunteers:

• Create a brief “job description” for each volunteer role.
• Determine how many volunteers you’ll need in each role.
• Start inviting current weekly/monthly volunteers to serve in these roles.
• Email parents to ask for volunteers.
• Decide which volunteer roles must complete a background check before serving at VBS.

Hands-on crafts and activities are a major part of the VBS experience. They also come with a list of materials. Figure out what supplies you’ll need to purchase for these crafts or any other take-home items, such as a Scripture-verse-of-the-day card.

Emergency Protocols

Every event, especially one involving children, needs a safety plan in place. Be sure to have adequate first aid supplies and procedures, security , and emergency evacuation plans.

Other Considerations

Though each church’s VBS program is different, here are a few common considerations as you finalize your plan:

• Send out a photo release form for parents to sign. The easiest way to handle this is to include it with the registration process.
• Create a method for following up with families whose children attended VBS but aren’t active in your church.
• Conduct a lessons-learned meeting with your team after the event.
• Celebrate a successful VBS with the church and as a planning team.
• Send handwritten thank-you notes to VBS volunteers.
• Review this list for a few more elements to consider as you start planning.

Step #4: Work the Plan

Your plan is set, now divvy up tasks amongst team members and set deadlines for each. I recommend using a project management tool — such as Asana , Teamwork , or Basecamp — to communicate deadlines, track progress, and provide additional information to your team in one centralized location.

Step #5: Enjoy a Successful Vacation Bible School Week

One of the first rules of event planning is to be flexible. Things happen and not everything is going to go off without a hitch. Because of this, it’s a great idea to set up a Command Center where staff and volunteers can come to ask questions and get help troubleshooting issues throughout VBS week.

Step #6: Celebrate and Recognize

Phew! You just pulled off an amazing VBS week! Celebrate your team’s success by hosting a party for all your VBS staff and volunteers. This can be a simple dinner-out to close out the week or a small gathering with yummy goodies and a huge “thank you” to everyone involved. And be sure to recognize your hard-working team in Sunday’s service!

Step #7: Conduct a Lessons-Learned Meeting

Though your program will mostly be successful, it won’t be perfect. Invite parents, volunteers, and church staff to join you for a meeting to discuss what went well and what to improve upon for next year.

Step #8: Create a Vacation Bible School Planning Notebook

If you used this plan this year, then you’ve already got your plan for next year. Organize all planning documents, vendor contracts, volunteer job descriptions, and other key items in a notebook or binder to make planning next year’s VBS week that much easier.

Make VBS Great for All Kids

Year after year, Vacation Bible School (VBS) continues to be one of the best outreach tools for churches. Kids from your community and beyond want something to do—especially in the summer! And parents of those kids NEED something for them to do!  

So, prayerfully, your VBS is filled with kids—kids with different abilities, kids who’ve never been to church, kids who come maybe 3–4 times a year, and of course, kids you see every Sunday! Each one has his own needs, some emotional, some physical, and you want to make each one feel welcomed and engaged. The challenge is how to make sure that happens. Here are a few ways to do just that!  

• Play name games. Every day. When someone knows your name, doesn’t it make you feel good? You feel seen and known. This especially can help a new kid feel at ease. The chance for him to make friends who also know his name—even better.  
• Be patient! Some kids don’t know church rules, such as staying quiet while someone is praying during prayer, focusing during Bible story time, following safety guidelines, and so forth. Don’t embarrass any child. Speak one-on-one when guidance is necessary. (For instance: instead of calling inappropriate language “bad words,” just remind kids that “we don’t say those words here.”)  
• Speak their language. Stay away from “church-ese.” Define church words often. Some won’t know who Jesus is; what sin is; what it means to be born again; what it means to baptized.  
• Teach Bible skills as if no one has ever heard them so a child doesn’t feel like the odd one out. This is especially true for older kids. Many will not know how to find a book of the Bible, much less locate a specific verse. Some may not even know what a Bible is.  
• Explain expectations. Take time to talk about what the day will look like, what rotations kids will go to, or how they will be moving around campus.  
• Remind kids of details. Take time daily to remind kids of what was learned during previous sessions. This will help new kids as well as those who might struggle with remembering from day to day.  

Special Needs Adaptations   

Make environmental changes so that those with special needs are able to complete the task.  

• Move floor activities to a tabletop so kids with mobility issues or in wheelchairs can more easily participate.  
• Increase the font size of handouts or posters to improve visibility for those with vision limitations.  
• Use a clear color contrast for print such as a black background with white print or a white background with black print.  

Adapt activities to allow students the opportunity to participate with a level of achievement.  

• Provide pool noodles to extend reach for kids with limited mobility to reach things like posters on the wall (point to the ___) or to use in simple tag games like Duck, Duck, Goose.  
• Offer options that include the child such as being the timekeeper or scorekeeper.  
• Provide a large clip (like a chip bag clip) to aid in holding cards.  

Modify content for the students.  

• Provide a visual schedule (icons or pictures to represent the day’s sequence of events). Hang this on the focal wall or another easily visible location.  
• Use picture cues whenever possible for learning and review.  

Provide a buddy for a student who requires assistance because of a disability.  

• The buddy can provide one-on-one assistance.  
• The buddy can monitor safety at all times for the student.  
• The buddy can reteach or redirect during a Bible story or activity.  
• The buddy can make accommodations to the environment for the student as needed (such as moving chairs out of the way for a wheelchair to have table access).  

All in all, the goal of VBS is to share the love of Christ with kids of every age, every stage, and every ability. See and love them through the eyes of Christ, and you’ll reach that goal!

Families of Uvalde school shooting victims are suing Texas state police over botched response

The families of 19 of the victims in the Uvalde elementary school shooting in Texas have filed a $500 million federal lawsuit against 92 state police officers who were part of the botched law enforcement response

AUSTIN, Texas -- The families of 19 of the victims in the Uvalde elementary school shooting in Texas on Wednesday filed a $500 million federal lawsuit against nearly 100 state police officers who were part of the botched law enforcement response to one of the deadliest school shootings in U.S. history.

The families said they also agreed to a $2 million settlement with the city, under which city leaders promised higher standards and better training for local police.

The lawsuit and settlement announcement in Uvalde came two days before the two-year anniversary of the massacre. Nineteen fourth-graders and two teachers were killed on May 24, 2022, when a teenage gunman burst into their classroom at Robb Elementary School and began shooting.

The lawsuit, seeking at least $500 million in damages, is the latest of several seeking accountability for the law enforcement response. More than 370 federal, state and local officers converged on the scene, but they waited more than 70 minutes before confronting the shooter.

It is the first lawsuit to be filed after a 600-page Justice Department report was released in January that catalogued “cascading failures” in training, communication, leadership and technology problems that day.

The lawsuit notes that state troopers did not follow their active shooter training or confront the shooter, even as the students and teachers inside were following their own lockdown protocols of turning off lights, locking doors and staying silent.

“The protocols trap teachers and students inside, leaving them fully reliant on law enforcement to respond quickly and effectively,” the families and their attorneys said in a statement.

Terrified students inside the classroom called 911 as agonized parents begged officers — some of whom could hear shots being fired while they stood in a hallway — to go in. A tactical team of officers eventually went into the classroom and killed the shooter.

“Law enforcement’s inaction that day was a complete and absolute betrayal of these families and the sons, daughters and mothers they lost,” said Erin Rogiers, one of the attorneys for the families. “TXDPS had the resources, training and firepower to respond appropriately, and they ignored all of it and failed on every level. These families have not only the right but also the responsibility to demand justice.”

A criminal investigation into the police response by Uvalde District Attorney Christina Mitchell’s office is ongoing. A grand jury was summoned this year, and some law enforcement officials have already been called to testify.

The latest lawsuit against 92 Texas Department of Public Safety officials and troopers also names the Uvalde School District, former Robb Elementary Principal Mandy Gutierrez and former Uvalde schools police Chief Peter Arredondo as defendants. The state police response was second only to U.S. Border Patrol, which had nearly 150 agents respond.

The list of DPS officials named as defendants includes two troopers who were fired, another who left the agency and several more whom the agency said it investigated. The highest ranking DPS official among the defendants is South Texas Regional Director Victor Escalon.

The Texas DPS told The Associated Press that the agency would not comment on pending litigation.

The plaintiffs are the families of 17 children killed and two more who were wounded. A separate lawsuit filed by different plaintiffs in December 2022 against local and state police, the city, and other school and law enforcement, seeks at least $27 billion and class-action status for survivors. And at least two other lawsuits have been filed against Georgia-based gun manufacturer Daniel Defense, which made the AR-style rifle used by the gunman.

The families said the settlement with the city was capped at $2 million because they didn’t want to bankrupt the city where they still live. The settlement will be paid from the city’s insurance coverage.

“The last thing they want to do was inflict financial hardship on their friend and neighbors in this community. Their friends and neighbors didn’t let them down,” Josh Koskoff, one of the attorneys for the families, said during a news conference in Uvalde on Wednesday.

The city of Uvalde released a statement saying the settlement would bring “healing and restoration” to the community.

“We will forever be grateful to the victims’ families for working with us over the past year to cultivate an environment of community-wide healing that honors the lives and memories of those we tragically lost. May 24th is our community’s greatest tragedy,” the city said.

But Javier Cazares, the father of slain 9-year-old Jackie Cazares, noted that the announcement — which was made in the same Uvalde Civic Center where the families gathered to be told their children were dead or wounded — was sparsely attended.

“On the way over here, I saw the sticker, which I see everywhere, ‘Uvalde Strong.’ If that was the case, this room should be filled, and then some. Show your support. It's been an unbearable two years. ... No amount of money is worth the lives of our children. Justice and accountability has always been my main concern.”

Under the settlement, the city agreed to a new “fitness for duty” standard and enhanced training for Uvalde police officers. It also establishes May 24 as an annual day of remembrance, a permanent memorial in the city plaza, and support for mental health services for the families and the greater Uvalde area.

The police response to the mass shooting has been criticized and scrutinized by state and federal authorities. A 600-page Justice Department report in January catalogued “cascading failures” in training, communication, leadership and technology problems that day,

Another report commissioned by the city also noted rippling missteps by law enforcement but defended the actions of local police, which sparked anger from victims’ families.

“For two long years, we have languished in pain and without any accountability from the law enforcement agencies and officers who allowed our families to be destroyed that day,” Veronica Luevanos, whose daughter Jailah and nephew Jayce were killed, said Wednesday. “This settlement reflects a first good faith effort, particularly by the City of Uvalde, to begin rebuilding trust in the systems that failed to protect us.”

Chicago Public School Board hears proposal for safety plan without school resource officers

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Thursday the Chicago Public School Board heard a proposal for whole-school safety without the presence of school resource officers from Chief of Safety and Security Jadine Chou.

"We are also working on, how are we building relationships with our students so we can be proactive, so if something is going on we will know that and we will address it at its root," Chou said.

The Whole School Safety Steering Committee presented their proposal to the board. The committee suggested a tiered transition over five years, and that each school would determine their own plan sooner if desired.

"The future of safety at CPS is about physical, emotional and relational safety, and the intersections of the three," said CPS Board Vice President Elizabeth Todd-Breland.

While the steering committee had been working on this proposal for months, calls to get armed police officers out of schools got loud in the aftermath of George Floyd's death at the hands of Minneapolis police in 2020.

Former CPS student, parent and resident Lynn Morton was on the steering committee.

"Guns don't bring relationships," she said. "I don't care who is carrying them, it could be the police or community members, they don't build that togetherness, they build those relationships and safety happens when you are in relationships," she said.

The board had previously voted to sunset school resource officers. Chou acknowledged concerns about the change but added there are plans to assist those 39 schools with SROs in the fall.

"We are going to have arrival and dismissal support, and another example is we are going to have ongoing meetings. These are things we expect will continue as we work through this transition," she said.

It's anticipated there will be 30 days for public comment on the whole-school safety proposal, and the committee will present a final proposal at the school board meeting in July.

How to qualify for student loan forgiveness, your guide to student loan forgiveness.

• You can't get forgiveness with private student loans, unlike with federal ones.
• Certain federal student loan holders are eligible for forgiveness, such as nurses and teachers who meet specific requirements.
• Income-driven repayment plans offer forgiveness for a remaining balance after the payment term is up.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)  

Public Service Loan Forgiveness is a loan forgiveness program meant for those working in certain government or not-for-profit organizations. PSLF will be applied to the remaining balance that eligible borrowers have on their Direct Loans. Eligibility kicks in if you're working full-time for an eligible employer, and after the equivalent of 120 qualifying monthly payments have been made.

Teacher Loan Forgiveness (TLF)

The Teacher Loan Forgiveness program is designed for educators who don't have an outstanding balance on Direct Loans or Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) loans, have been employed full-time for five consecutive academic years, have been employed at an elementary or secondary school, or educational agency serving low-income students, and lastly, the loans you're seeking forgiveness for must be from your minimum of five years of teaching.

Income-Driven Repayment (IDR) Forgiveness

An IDR plan restructures and bases your monthly student loan payment on your income and the size of your family, with the goal of setting up lower monthly payments. Under an IDR plan, at the end of your repayment term, any remaining balance will be forgiven.

Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program

The Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program (NCLRP) forgives educational debt for registered nurses, advanced practice registered nurses, and nurse faculty members.

Those who receive an award must have worked for at least two years in a critical shortage facility, or an eligible nursing school as a faculty member.

Perkins Loan cancellation and discharge

If you're an educator with a Federal Perkins Loan, it's possible to get 100% of your loan canceled incrementally. The following jobs are eligible for loan cancellation, under certain conditions:

• Elementary or secondary school teachers
• Special education teachers
• Preschool or Pre-K teachers
• Other educators
• Law enforcement
• First responders
• Nonprofit workers
• Those in the Military
• Health care workers
• Those who work with people with disabilities.

You may be eligible to get your Perkins Loan discharged if you've gone through any of the following life events:

• Certain types of bankruptcy
• School closure before you completing your program of study
• Total and permanent disability

Understand the specific requirements of each program

Every loan forgiveness program is different, and set up for different borrowers in different situations. Compare your options to identify your strongest chance for loan forgiveness.

Verify your loan eligibility

Even if you are in an eligible role for any of these forgiveness program, that doesn't mean the type of loan you have is eligible for loan forgiveness. 

Stay on top of your payments

For certain programs, such as IDR and PSLF, you are only eligible for loan forgiveness if you're up to date on your payments and your account is in good standing. 

Keep accurate records

To prepare your application and any questions the lenders may have, be sure to have all important documents on hand. That includes your employment verification, social security information, and other personal credentials. It also means keeping a record of your paystubs, payment history, and other relevant documents.

No, not all student loans are eligible for all programs. Be sure to check program details carefully.

The limit on how much student loan debt can be forgiven is entirely dependent on the program. PSLF, for example, may forgive the entire remaining balance.

Generally speaking, you have to pay taxes on forgiven student loans. Consult a tax advisor for specific details.

Private student loans are rarely forgiven, unless otherwise handled through specific employer programs. Most forgiveness is for federal loans.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - The European Union will feel the "full measure" of Russian retaliation over its plan to use income from frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.

EU countries have formally adopted a plan to use windfall profits from Russian central bank assets frozen in the EU for Ukraine's defence, the Belgian government said on Tuesday.

Russia says such action is illegal and undermines the foundations of the global financial system.

"We are talking about another attempt to legitimise theft at state level," Zakharova told reporters, saying the EU had shown it could not be considered a reliable jurisdiction for investors.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on Thursday that immobilised Russian assets represent a potential source of support for Ukraine through 2025 and beyond.

G7 negotiators have been discussing for weeks how to best exploit some $300 billion worth of Russian financial assets, such as major currencies and government bonds, which were frozen shortly after Moscow invaded Ukraine in February 2022.

The United States is pushing to find a way to bring forward the future income from those assets, either through issuing a bond or more likely granting Ukraine a loan that it says could provide it with as much as $50 billion in the near term.

Russia has threatened retaliation for weeks, but Moscow's options are limited when it comes to sovereign assets and it is not clear what form any retribution might take.

Russia's ability to mete out like-for-like retaliation if Western leaders seize its frozen assets has been eroded by dwindling foreign investment, but it may go after private investors' cash instead.
