Sustainability: Economics, Environment, Management and Society (SUSTEEMS)

The PhD programme in Sustainability: Economics, Environment, Management and Society (SUSTEEMS) is an interdisciplinary doctoral degree jointly offered by the Department of Economics and Management , the Department of Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering , the Faculty of Law , and the Department Sociology and Social Research .
Developing a sustainable society presents some of the most crucial challenges concerning the future of our planet, and it requires an interdisciplinary approach involving economics, management sciences, engineering and social sciences . This PhD programme provides rigorous knowledge in a broad range of qualitative and quantitative methods and disciplines (see the Curriculum ) to allow a deep understanding of the interaction between natural and social systems, and provides students with the flexibility to pursue in-depth research in a broad variety of topics .
In their PhD thesis, PhD students can address research questions within a disciplinary boundary or from an interdisciplinary perspective. They can conduct both theoretical and empirical investigations , using diverse methodological approaches. The PhD thesis consists of three papers to be published in scientific journals.
The PhD programme was launched in 2020/2021 and in the first accreditation round by the Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes (ANVUR) SUSTEEMS was recognized as an innovative - interdisciplinary doctoral programme.
On April 23, 2024 (see poster below) the first PhD students from 36°cycle will discuss their research thesis, and get their PhD degree.

Behavioural and Applied Economics
Why behavioural and applied economics.
The Master in Behavioural and Applied Economics (BEA) is a unique scientific project developed by the Department of Economics and Management of the University of Trento, that provides graduates with innovative learnings, where the economic theory is deeply interwoven with empirical and quantitative analysis . The objective is to foster an applied approach to economic research that, based on solid theory, build empirical tests using observational and/or experimental data, in order to develop an efficient analysis of the economic phenomena and data to assess effective strategic policies . The Master Degree BEA is aiming at giving graduates a specific domain expertise to read critically and to analyse in a strong innovative way the observational data and to project and implement investigative resources directly on the field (experimental labs, field experiments, surveys, etc).

Having earned his B.B.A in Management with a minor in economics, Justin plans to pursue his masters in economics in the upcoming school year and potentially pursue his Ph.D. He has participated in numerous internships within the data analytics field and strives to eventually become a high-level business executive within a Fortune 500 company. Justin enjoys reading, writing, and investing in his free time and hopes to make lifelong connections at the AEA Summer Program.

The article deals with issues of monitoring, planning, organizational and technical support, economic regulation and improving the efficiency of the infrastructure for processing, recycling and disposal of waste, resource conservation and management of secondary resources, their use as secondary raw materials for production, services, work and power generation. The Russian Federation has significant potential for economic growth due to the efficient use of secondary resources from billions of tons of generated production and consumption waste annually. These ecologically unsafe anthropogenic objects can be characterized as a source of valuable renewable raw materials, material and fuel and energy resources. However, the scale and level of use of various types of secondary resources are characterized by considerable unevenness and depend on the demand for secondary raw materials, the resource value of the waste, the environmental situation arising from treating them as environmental polluters, on the real economic conditions that determine the profitability of each specific type. economic activities that use secondary resources for the manufacture of products, works, services, energy production. The methods of monitoring the industry for the treatment, disposal and disposal of waste are: information-analytical, information-statistical, sociological, geo-information. The legal status of the monitoring system of the industry for the treatment, disposal and disposal of waste is determined by the limitations of its functionality within the framework of the goals and objectives facing it.
