The second interview is with Roland Barthes (1915–80), which was conducted in the early 1960s at the height of his structuralist phase. Barthes is well known as a key figure in the development of the structural analysis and semiology of literature and popular culture, which he explored as contemporary ‘mythologies’ (Barthes, 2009 [1957]).
