My First Work Experience and Knowledge I Gained Essay

When I was a child, my dream was to find the work connected with managing people and resources. The vision persisted until it became time for pursuing a college degree, where I opted for a business course in Human Resource Management (HRM). I intended to be in a position to lead people at the workplace. After graduating from school, luckily, I got an internship program with one of the renowned retail companies called Costco Retailers.

The first working experience was memorable because I finally managed to become independent and earn my first money. When I started working in the corporation, I changed my mentality to adapt to the new system. This paper will discuss the experience during my first job recruitment, skills, and knowledge gathered during this period. During the first working experience, recruits should apply the theoretical knowledge in practice to avoid difficulties in time-management, issue solving, and communication with clients and colleagues.

The time-management appeared to be a fundamental problem that I have faced during my experience. It was a requirement that all the staff report one hour before the opening of the stores. This was necessary to facilitate daily planning and arrangement of the work routine to enhance the efficiency of the operations. It was difficult for me to manage time properly and organize the activities of other people. I had to participate in various events and often failed to perform my duties correctly. There even was a period of time when I was at significant risk of being fired. I had to learn how to be time-conscious to overcome the pressure. I solved this problem thanks to applying some time-management techniques.

Besides the time factor, another issue was working under pressure. During the first few months, I was stationed at the customer care desk to attend to the clients’ queries. At this position, several problems emerged that required immediate attention from the top managers within the department. It was challenging to handle some inquiries because of the large number of customers and the nature of their needs. The intensity to meet their expectation was overwhelming, and it involved many commands from the senior staff.

Another problem that required theoretical knowledge from me was cultural diversity. Shoppers consist of people from different races, gender, culture, and profession. Communicating with customers was a nightmare, especially for those whose cultures tend to diverge at some point. Sometimes you might offend people from different cultures without noticing it. Nonetheless, thanks to their interactive nature and understanding, some clients helped me learn how to communicate appropriately.

Generally, working with customers entails fluctuating motions since they come in different moods with various expectations to be fulfilled. Meeting people from different backgrounds increased my exposure and understanding of individuals behave in relation to their culture. The race-tolerance strategies learned during my education helped me to adjust my communicational style.

I thought handling customers was the main challenge of this position, but there was another significant problem. Being a novice, young, and unfamiliar with the company’s system was another terrifying encounter. At the customer care desk, we had co-workers who had been in the institution for an extended period. These workers used to take advantage of the recruits by assigning complex tasks and overworking them. I became a victim and felt exploited since I could do twice what the other workers were doing. From one point of view, such pressure was rational, aiming to increase my working skills. From the other point, I had moral difficulties coping with a considerable amount of work while experienced colleagues did not offer me any help.

It is also essential to mention which new skills I have gained during my working experience which contribute to my professional development. Thanks to this organization, I gained valuable knowledge and skills helpful for developing in this work industry. First, I gained an understanding of how to communicate with customers and colleagues. Before joining the Costco team, I thought managing people was easy to perform and did not require any special knowledge. Thanks to this working experience, I have learned that communication and management is a whole science that requires profound knowledge and well-developed communicational skills. Therefore, I realized that it is critical to apply the behavioral analysis approach to maintain effective communication.

Moreover, the company made me develop and improve my intrapersonal skills. Working with people having different ages and cultures requires self-understanding (Horak & Matoskova, 2018). To be able to relate effectively with other staff members and even customers, I had to learn how to communicate and listen. Communication is essential in advancing the relationship amongst the business affiliates. The on-the-job experience made it easier to comprehend and apply the skills. Here I also successfully applied the gained during my education knowledge.

Surprisingly, technological knowledge was vital during my working experience. Furthermore, being at the customer care desk exposed me to using the computer system to record, search, monitor, and even communicate with the administration. I developed deep insight into technology, and my computer knowledge increased. Through the period, I could use the system to perform critical tasks like monitoring the level of inventory, tracking customers’ purchasing records, and updating new valuable information for clients. In addition, I was able to analyze the trend of buyers, which was helpful for the administration for updating the stocks.

Another critical skill that I acquired during the period was the ability to solve problems. At the customer care desk, clients came with various issues ranging from sales of defective products to poor service delivery. I have analyzed different literature on the topic of problem-solving. Multiple techniques help the manager build good relationships with the customer and colleagues (Funke et al., 2018). One of them is the culturally-tolerant attitude towards the participants of communication. I developed a profound knowledge of managing different circumstances to generate a proper solution by handling such issues. Seeing and learning how the colleagues were regulating similar situations at work was vital and prompted self-confidence. To make a decision, self-reliance is essential as it allows one to find their own answers to the problem.

Generally, obtaining a job after completing coursework in college is beneficial because you can gain valuable experience. On the job, learning makes the whole perspective different as it comes with arrays of experiences both encouraging and demoralizing. Sometimes changing and adapting to a new routine is difficult for the new employees. Furthermore, interacting with various people at the workplace advance understanding and worldview of individuals.

The exposure also makes people gain the necessary knowledge and skills that are essential for further carrier development. Joining the proper organization could impact the level of experience individual gains. If people are ready to develop their knowledge and skills, asking questions, elaborate new ideas, then the chances of attaining new skills at work are high. It is also vital to implement the theoretical concept learned through education in practice. Thus, applying theoretical concepts and constant development contributed to forming a positive working experience.

To Whom It May Concern,

Re: Jacob Polvaski

My history with Jane Wallport dates back five years. Jane first came to the Center for Social Support of Families and Youth in Durango, Colorado in 2007 as an intern while still pursuing her B.A. in social work. At the time, I was a family services consultant, and I recall Jane back then being already enthusiastic about hands-on work with the clients from the Center . Within a year, Jane had become an inalienable part of our team, working much more than what an internship at the Center was required to, and it was clear that she enjoyed what she was doing tremendously.

Having graduated in 2008, Jane kept working at the Center as a volunteer. In 2009, she became an official employee as the Volunteer Coordinator and launched her first volunteer outreach project. Ever since, Jane has been the developer of six different projects which we have embarked on in cooperation with our partners—the Social Services Committee of the La Plata County, the local Durango branch of the Colorado Department of Human Services , as well as the faculty of social work at the Colorado State University where Jane acquired her M.A. in social work. Furthermore, Jane has greatly contributed to a number of other on-going projects and has helped the Center establish new connections with various regional and state NGOs.

From the years I have known Jane, she has always been an inspiration—the person with that spark and never-ending capacity for enthusiasm, optimism, and faith. Jane has an open personality that perfectly suits the sphere of social services. She is tolerant, compassionate, empathetic, and understanding. We have a friendly team working at the Center , and Jane has greatly contributed to that as well. She is more than a colleague; she is a friend to whom I know I can turn to and will never let me down. It is arduous to realize that the time has come for us to let Jane go, and I can hardly imagine the Center being the same without her. The team of volunteers Jane has built over the past three years is now our support and major resource. That is in many ways Jane’s achievement as well.

When I think of Jane as the future mediator in the Civic Mediation Council of Virginia , I cannot imagine a better candidate for this position. Apart from her experience working with families and youth in the Center , where she frequently helped resolve conflicts between family members, Jane has a unique personal ability to bring out the best in people by demonstrating by her own example how nobility, trustworthiness, and kindness can help people reach a solution through compromise. I have no doubt that Jane Wallport will instantly become a valuable asset to your team and a responsible employee you will not want to let go.

Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions with regard to Jane Wallport and this reference letter in particular.

Yours sincerely,

Jacob Polvaski

The Experience of the First Job

Growing up as a shy and self-contained person, I have never thought that I would be able to work with people. When I was offered an internship opportunity at a rehabilitation center, I was so frightened, I thought I would fail. The mere thought of constantly meeting new people and talking to them scared me, and overcoming this fear was the most difficult thing I have done in my life. The experience of the last six months has changed my perception of myself, turning me into a more open, friendly, kind, and confident person. Analyzing my journey, I now feel grateful for this opportunity and willing to share my experience.

When I came to work on my very first day, I felt extremely nervous and anxious. However, I was welcomed kindly and introduced to the staff who happened to be nice and friendly people. My job was to meet patients and answer their questions while they are waiting for their appointment. From the start, I encountered several problems due to my lack of experience. The first was always feeling unsure about what I was doing and saying. The second was communication difficulties that I have experienced for my entire life. As a shy person who had never worked with people, I had trouble finding the common language with patients of different ages and backgrounds. The third issue was the fear of new challenges that I had to encounter every day.

At this job, I learned several important things that changed my perception of my future career: how to deal with stress, how to communicate with people, and how to work in a team. When I overcame the initial anxiety of asking for help and realized that my colleagues are always happy to offer me their advice and support, I started to feel much more self-confident. I learned how to talk with patients, what to say and what to do when I am unable to help them, and I was surprised to see that, day after day, there were fewer and fewer problems that I could not solve. This experience has changed my personality, and I now feel that I have turned into a more confident, friendly, kind, and empathetic person that is not afraid to ask for help and meet new challenges.

First Work Experience Essay

First Work Experience The scent of fresh waffles, sound of radio pop music, light from the open sign. Just another long day at work. Everything is just like the usual. Restock utensils, greet customers, take orders, collect payments, and clean up. At seventeen, wanting to save up for my post-secondary tuition, I decided to work a part time job alongside school. I thought that not only does it give me money, it can also give me valuable work experience. Working at a part time job sounds like a perfect opportunity for me. However, after this experience, my perspective of working in the service industry completely changed. This was my first real job. After expressing my concerns about post-secondary tuition, my high school friend referred me …show more content…

As time went on, things slowly started to get better. With my improved work habits, I slowly began to catch up on school. Also, I began to know my coworkers better, and I get to spend more time with my friend there. Moreover, after knowing how the store functions and learning all the menu items, the work became easier as well. I started to really enjoy this job despite getting some wrist injuries from scooping ice cream. Then, something happened. It was near the end of my 11-hour shift on a Sunday. It was quite busy as it was a hot summer night. The line was almost to the outside of the door while there was only two of us working. A man and his son walked in. They stood there and stared at the menu for a while. As they decide for what they want, my co-worker and I work fast “I want these two flavours!” The child demanded. The father smiled and agreed. He came up to me and ordered the two flavours in a kid’s cup. However, our store policy only allows one flavor per cup, so I apologized and explained this to him. Normally, customers are understanding of policies and are willing to change the order. This was not the case. “You cannot say no to what a kid wants”, he causes a scene while a huge line of customers is waiting behind him impatiently to be served. He continued to yell and reason. “Look I am the customer and it is your job to give me what I am ordering” “Don’t make it hard for her” other customers who were watching jumped in. He does not back off and

Personal Narrative: Pursuing A Career At Old Navy

It was only a seasonal job, so they weren't too picky with their hiring and within a month I was hired and put to training. Training was fun, it was I working like everybody but somewhat supervised. After the training I'll be honest, I hated working there. I couldn't stand having to put clothes away for four hours and barely being able to talk to anybody besides a passerby customer who would politely brush me off every time I asked the required, "Do you need any help with anything? No? Okay, let me know!" It got old real quick. I missed the constant interaction I got with the kids I used to

Tax Preparing Experience

It was a temporary job and I never thought it would be more than three months. I liked it and I gave my best. Every day I was happy because I was going to learn something new, and I knew it was going to have a great day. I was full of the energy of desire and that desire lasted me 3 and a half years. Finally, I know life is not always easy. I learned to value small things, and above all, I learned that if you want something you can look for it and there are many ways to skip the bad people in your life. Because always, in every context, there are good people, there are good people and there are people who want and embrace the changes and that showed me my first

Breastfeeding Vs Breast Feeding Essay

“Thank you so much,” I tell the employee and the other woman, “I never thought I would have to encounter something like that, it really shows why mothers could be reluctant to breastfeed their children, especially in public, it should be a personal decision not impacted by outside opinions such as this one. When I turned fifteen and a half I was enabled to work and my mother showed me an ad on Facebook showing that the Santa Clarita Swap Meet was hiring high schoolers and I decided to go apply. The decision to apply is one of the best choices I’ve made. Even before I was hired the Swap Meet helped me, I had never had an interview for work before and during the hiring process I had two interviews one on the spot when delivering my application and another formal one. This already significantly helped me because later I had an interview for another job and I was hired on the spot, showing how much those interviews helped me. While on the job I learned many amazing things. I learned how to be tactful in situations where the customer is not satisfied

Newcomer Pre-Employment Program Essay

This program is made up of two comprehensive Modules, each with their own focus on different parts of the job search process. The first portion of the program is focused on identifying skills and qualifications that companies look for, as well as identifying a list of companies and other organizations that newcomers should engage with. My Job At The American Automobile Association Essay

Have you ever found yourself wondering “what would it be like to work there?” Being employed since I was fourteen, at three different companies, I have acquired a lot of skills and experience. I was employed at my first job, the Community Design Center (CDC), for four years. I was a member in the garden corps, and moved up to a position in the conservation corps team. If you had a job at the CDC some tasks would include tending to organic gardens, parks, and nature sanctuaries. My next job was at Super America (SA) as a customer service representative. Over the three years that I was employed there I was promoted to a food representative, and then a shift lead. While working at SA one will find themselves: facing shelves, stocking shelves, helping customers, and cleaning and maintaining appliances. My current job is at the American Automobile Association (AAA); I started out as a license clerk and was promoted to my current position as a license specialist. At AAA you could expect assisting customers with drivers license renewals, vehicle title transfers, and Department of Natural Resource transactions (DNR). The CDC, SA, and AAA some people will say they are good jobs to be at, especially at a young age, but being an employee at the CDC has been the most rewarding and pleasurable job.

Cvs Reflection

Starting my first job at CVS was a eye opener in learning how to work together, learning the store and the employees. The positive in this process is that you have the expreince teaching you ins and outs so the transtiton into your positon will become a lot easier. Being able to be trained do a lot in the store comes with good times and bad times, so the negetive aspect of this was I was put into a postion to do customer service which I didn’t feel comfortable doing but if you want the job you have to put your fears aside and learn from those who has done it before, so after two weeks of training I got the hang of what this position had consist of. The moral of this story is I had a lot of help from my co-workers which allowed me to settle

The internship at College Works Painting would provide me with the opportunity to be challenged and expand my potential. The internship would teach me valuable, hands-on skills needed for the real world. For example, interns learn time-management and communication skills while engaging in the program. I, being a Mass Communications major would benefit

Personal Narrative: My First Job

My first job was at 7-eleven in Monmouth Junction by South Brunswick as a sales associate, specifically, the designated coffee maker. Despite the fact that I really did not need to work there, my father told me it would be an amazing learning experience and he was right. The shift I worked was from 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM, Monday to Friday and I was told to greet customers and ensure that the coffee pots were never empty. Despite this easy task I quickly found myself having trouble due to the fact that it was a mindless job which required no skills beyond training to make coffee. Fortunately, I learned a lot through my summer working there as I met customers from all walks of life, so poor that they were not allowed in and so wealthy they could

I was never asked for help from my family thinking I was too young to be responsible. Once I turned sixteen, I thought it would have been easy to get any starting jobs. Boy was I wrong.…

Personal Essay: My First Job

My first job was, of course, in retail. I assumed it would be a great job, considering I love people. However, after working in retail for a year I have a better insight of how people can be. I didn’t think much of people who worked in customer service. It only took a few customers, treating me, as well as my coworkers like scum for me to change my view.…

Clerks Internship Essay

In the beginning of the semester, I would admit I was nervous to start my internship with the Divisional Clerks office. Before these past few months, I had only set-foot in a courthouse once or twice in my life for past tickets. Ever since I was eight years old, I have always wanted to be a lawyer. Growing up I enjoyed watching the television show; Law and Order Special Victims Unit, with my grandfather every day after school. When we would sit and watch the show together, my grandfather would tell me all the time “You would make a great lawyer Joe.”…

Personal Narrative Essay: The Story Of My First Job

My First Job When I first began my job, I didn’t care for it at all, but now I can’t wait for my next work day. The day I came home with the news of my first job, my family could not believe it. They were aware that I wanted a job for the reason that all my friends held jobs, but they had no idea I would indeed pursue this idea. I was very proud of myself for achieving this all alone, and I was as surprised as they were that this happened. I remember getting ready for my first day, I was shaking with excitement and a hint of nervousness.…

Essay On Nursing Experience

It was a cold Saturday morning back in January, 2012. I remember tucking my scrubs into my socks in a failed effort to prevent them from getting soaked in the slush-coated parking lot. I was overwhelmed with excitement as I rushed through the hallway to make it to huddle. Not even a snowstorm the size of Texas, trapping us all at work for days, could dampen my mood that morning. It was only my second week on the job in the emergency room when not even a half hour into my shift I witnessed my first cardiac arrest.…

Personal Narrative Essay: My First Job Experience

Whenever, I needed help, other employees wouldn’t mind helping me out. There were a large number of people working there who were immigrants but no one was racist towards anyone. Everyone worked together and treated each other like a family so that helped me to be comfortable working with them. The workplace was always very clean, which also created a nice environment around me to focus on my work. That’s really a good thing because a nice working environment keeps me safe, healthy, and gives me more energy to do my work.…

Personal Narrative: The Day I Grew Up

The Day I Grew Up Walking down the road to my first job was the day I realized my life had changed. My first real responsibilities were beginning and accountability was starting to crawl its way into my life. I would have to sacrifice countless hours of free time, hanging out with friends, and sleep in order to work. I relate to Schoonover because like her on the weekends, I would go to the lake with my friends and out to lunch with them. Also, since I acquired the job, I would need to start paying for necessities and extracurricular activities on my own.…

My First Day on a New Job Essay

My First Day on a New Job The beginning is a place where we all have to start at some point in our lives. It could be the beginning of a marriage, a relationship, a business, a pregnancy, or a job. The one thing all these relationships would have in common is that you don’t know what it’s going to be like. We all have our expectations; in courtship, before marriage, research and planning, before starting a business, and the interview before starting the job.…

My Personal Experience: My First Job Interview

A few weeks ago, I found myself on the second floor of the North end of the Unity Health Hospital, dressed in the nicest button-up shirt and dress pants I own, shaking so hard that my folder, which held my resume, cover letter, two pens, notebook paper and a cheesy motivational quote stuck to the inside cover, nearly fell out of my hands. My first job interview was an experience that I will never forget. My anxiety reached the point of exacerbation during the fifteen minutes that I spent in the empty lobby. I had intentionally arrived fifteen minutes earlier than my appointed time and was only accompanied by my own thoughts, which were fraught with worry. Had I arrived too early?…

Examples Of Struggles In My Life

There are so many struggles I have experienced in my life. Some of them were easy to go through, others were challenging and hard, but still got through it. Some of the hardest struggles that I overcame with my family was literacy and poverty. Literacy is the ability to read or write. I was illiterate my childhood years until my country started developing to build schools, hospitals and etc.…

Work Experience Essay

My previous work experience has exposed me to a variety of team dynamics and I would describe my exposure as very positive. My love for connecting with people has been a major factor in my overall employment success, such as, two management roles before reaching my twenty’s and also a fulfilling career in the financial industry for nine years. Working in a customer service role for the last 14 years I have faced struggles with communication, as well as developed positive skills to work effectively with others. One of the most essential elements I have learned from working as a Financial Advisor is how to build trust with people. I firmly believe this is key to any successful relationship, rather an employment relationship or otherwise.…

Experience story: My first job

My story about my first job in tech!

Today I want to write down how I experienced my first job, what it was like, what I’ve learned, and the general learning curve.

The year is 2011. I was still in school and needed to find a company to start an internship.

First, you’ll need to know that I just finished college and got a degree in Communication and Multimedia Design. However, I wanted to convert this into a master’s degree in Multimedia Design.

With my degree, I could get into the fast course to cut down one year of my master’s.

That sounded like fun because, to be honest, I was done learning and wanted to start earning money.

Hence, we get into the story of my first job, how it went down, what I’ve learned, and what I would have done differently.

Finding an internship permalink

I was not one to have big ambitions to have an internship at Google or another big tech company. I wanted to work, a friend had just finished his internship as a designer, and we referred me to company x .

I contacted them, which was a perfect fit since they were based in the city next to where I lived.

They were a small two-person team (husband and wife) who created High-end WordPress themes.

To understand the dynamics, the wife was a previous graphic designer, and the husband was a jacuzzi sales guy.

It was a weird dynamic because of what it turned out to be: Design was outsourced, Development all of it was me, just me, a guy still in school learning this stuff.

But you know how it goes. As an eager young developer, you take on anything.

During the internship, I focused on one big theme, which was a good seller. I had to do a ton of documentation on this, so I didn’t get around to making much more during the short intern period.

During this period, I got offered a job since they were pleased with my work. I was over the moon. I was still working as a shelve stocker at the local grocery store. So this new job would be a super opportunity.

Converted the internship to work permalink

So, we converted my internship into a job. I was, however, still in school. But whenever I could, I went to work there.

These turned out to be some long days and most of my weekends.

However, I was learning so much here, even though it was WordPress development. It taught me a lot about building scalable elements.

The one thing that was a bit of a pain, I was their only developer, and the designs were getting crazier and crazier. At one stage, I was so stressed about not being able to convert these crazy designs into themes.

Not just because of the challenge but because of the time pressure. The guy was a salesperson, so he knew how to put pressure on me.

I saw my school work and grades going down. My motivation for anything was nowhere. My friends hadn’t seen me in a while.

And the worst was they were making thousands on the themes I developed for them.

Time to refactor permalink

It was my first job. I thought I had to do whatever they asked me. At one stage, I talked to my parents, and they told me that having a job is also about standing up for yourself.

Do what’s right, so I asked for an open conversation with the owners. This ended in a good chat, and they agreed they might have pushed me a bit too much.

Things slowed down, and I was able to create quality work again.

Talk to people about the struggles you have!

I was also getting way better at WordPress development. We had so many themes at this stage that it was fantastic.

For those around, we were competing against Kriesi, the #1 seller, for a long time.

I also got some excellent benefits and bonuses at this stage. I guess they figured their company wouldn’t survive without me.

Good developers are hard to come by permalink

I also learned that good developer were hard to come by at this stage.

With that, I mean people who could work on their own. That didn’t need full guidance.

The whole time I worked there, we always had at least one intern. And my expectation was always they could do the same or better than what I was doing.

This, however, was never the case. I was typing the code for them.

I was also far from being able to manage people, as I was still learning myself.

But in general, I learned I had value, and this would only be proven in the companies I turned out to work for later.

How it went south permalink

As you read in the middle of this article, this job didn’t last. There were some struggles. They got sorted, but it was never really gone.

The owners started talking the whole holidays because I was running the business anyway.

They didn’t respect the work I did. When I would proudly present a new theme, they would be like yeah, just put it online, let the sales speak, and now start working on a new one.

It was frustrating not to get some recognition. And besides that, I thought, well, if these guys can run a business paying for three people and an office space, where only one is doing the work?

What would happen if I just started my WordPress theme factory?

And that’s exactly what I did. I quit the job. They weren’t happy about that.

And started my own business: Mysterious Themes.

Starting a business permalink

These were exciting times. I remember going to the business registry, walking out there as a new business owner, and feeling like I would make millions.

I knew how the themes sold and how much time it would cost me to build them.

1+1 = millions!

Unfortunately, that was not the case.

If you know theme-forest, the site where we sold most of the themes, they have a pretty rough review system, much like the iOS App Store these days.

The company I worked for had a set name already. And apparently, that helped in the reviewers being a bit slack.

Most of my stuff now got rejected for mostly design reasons. And to be honest, I wasn’t a designer.

The themes were perfect from a technical point of view and really state-of-the-art.

I built drag-and-drop themes even before that was a thing.

This was a bit of a slumber. My dream went down quickly. Another thing I didn’t think about was taxes, all of a sudden, I had to do taxes, and I had no idea what was happening.

This was all way harder than I thought.

I ended up choosing the second-best WordPress sales website called mojo-themes. (This is 2012).

They accepted my theme, and it got a few sales in the first week, but nothing like I was used to.

I was getting a bit bummed out.

Then I realized at the previous company, we got many requests to install the themes for people, but we never really got into this.

I thought it would be a quick win since installing them was easier than building them from scratch.

Converting the business permalink

This was when I converted my business into a Website for a €500 deal.

It worked well, considering one theme would only sell for about 30€, and theme forest of whoever would get half of that in commission.

I started talking to friends, family, and people online. Advertising a website entirely done for 500€, for most companies, even small businesses, was not a lot of money.

And it turned out to be quite a lucrative business for a while.

Although, at one stage, I didn’t ask for support past delivery because it turned out to be a silly approach.

Some people would come back a million-and-one times to get things changed and complain their computer crashed. (I know, right, how is that my problem?)

That was no fun for me. I loved making websites, but dealing with clients at this stage was not my strong suit.

I ended up putting this to a halt to find a new challenge, where I would build actual high-end PHP websites.

Things I’ve learned permalink

The most important thing I’ve learned during this period was that you need to get going.

Don’t wait for the golden opportunity; make your own. Try out things, and speak up for yourself.

Also, it doesn’t matter what your stack is. WordPress is no longer a service I would offer, but if you’re getting started, it’s a sound system for someone.

Building themes and plugins is quite a cool challenge, yet there are enough guides and tutorials to help you.

It’s all about being proud of what you make.

Another important thing I would have done differently is to focus on learning. I decided to start working while still in school, which was cool on paper, but I struggled quite a bit getting all the schoolwork done in the real world.

I think this goes for a lot of things, not just school. If you are learning, dedicate that time to understand what you are learning thoroughly, it doesn’t mean you can’t work on things, but don’t stop the learning process just because you think you’re there already.

One of the biggest learnings I did is that communication is critical. This is a wide saying, but it goes a long way.

When you communicate with people, your boss or your client, they must understand you. They know what’s going on, where you stand, and, more importantly, where they stand.

This is something I started to improve in the jobs to come, and the one thing I find is a crucial element to success.

One more thing, I’ve seen this many times, people see their internships as just that. I challenge you to see it as a job. It might convert into one. But even if it doesn’t, you should experience how it feels to work.

Don’t settle for getting coffee for some grumpy dude. Demand work and pick up the work. Also, don’t be afraid to ask questions. That’s what you are there for.

So, what happened at your school? permalink

Luckily, I’m quick to turn things around and pick up my schoolwork without much effort.

I finished my degree in 3 years.

I even decided to do a full university degree in Communication, Multimedia design. However, that was just too much. I applied to the Uni but didn’t get picked.

It’s a raffle study, so I had to wait another year. I decided not to go that route and kept focusing on self-learning and working.

It was an exciting time when I grew as a person and developer.

People have asked me if I ever use my degrees; honestly, they are on my resume, but I’ve never been asked to show them.

Not saying you should put false information on your resume, but I wonder how important it is.

As a person who hired people, I don’t even care about that. I tend to go on a personal base. There must be a match between you and the company, and then, of course, your skills should reflect that.

My first day at work was filled with anticipation. The night before, I prepared my outfit, packed my bag, and set my alarm early.

Upon arrival, I was introduced to my colleagues. Their warm welcome eased my nerves. I was given a brief tour of the office, which helped me familiarize myself.

250 Words Essay on First Day at Work

The first day at work is an amalgamation of anticipation, nervousness, and excitement. The anticipation is about the unknown; a new environment, new colleagues, and new responsibilities. The evening before, you meticulously choose your outfit, ensuring it strikes the perfect balance between professional and comfortable. You rehearse your introduction, hoping to leave a positive first impression.

The Arrival

Upon arrival, the unfamiliarity of the surroundings is overwhelming. The office layout, the hum of activity, the formalities, and the faces – all new. The welcome tour serves as a quick rundown of your new world, each corner whispering tales of the journey that awaits you.

Adaptation and Learning

Adapting to the new environment is a significant part of the first day. You observe and learn, taking mental notes of the office culture, the work style, and the unspoken rules. The orientation sessions are informative, but the real learning comes from keen observation and interaction.

Building Relationships

Introductions form the foundation of future professional relationships. With each handshake, each exchange of pleasantries, you’re not just learning names, but also building connections. These interactions, however brief, are the stepping stones to a robust professional network.

Reflection and Looking Ahead

At the end of the day, you reflect on the whirlwind of experiences. There’s satisfaction in surviving the first day, and optimism for the journey ahead. You’re no longer a stranger but a part of the team, ready to contribute and grow.

In conclusion, the first day at work is a rite of passage that marks the beginning of a new professional journey. It’s a day of learning, adapting, and building relationships that pave the way for future success.

500 Words Essay on First Day at Work

Introduction.

Starting a new job is a significant milestone in one’s life. It’s a mix of excitement, anticipation, and anxiety. The first day at work is particularly memorable as it sets the tone for the entire professional journey ahead. This essay delves into the various aspects of the first day at work, offering a comprehensive understanding of what the experience entails.

The Anticipation

The first day at work starts even before one steps into the office. It begins with the anticipation that builds up days or even weeks before. The anticipation is a mix of curiosity about the new environment and the role, excitement about the opportunities that lie ahead, and anxiety about fitting in and meeting expectations. This anticipation phase is crucial as it helps prepare mentally for the new experience and sets the stage for the actual first day.

The moment of arrival at the new workplace is filled with a sense of accomplishment and a bit of nervousness. It’s the culmination of all the hard work put into securing the job and the beginning of a new journey. The first impression of the workplace, the reception by colleagues, and the introduction to the workspace are all pivotal moments that shape the initial perception of the job.

Orientation and Learning

The first day usually involves an orientation process where new hires are introduced to the company’s culture, values, and rules. They also get an overview of their roles and responsibilities. This is a crucial phase as it forms the basis of understanding the job and the company. It’s also a learning experience as one gets to know about the company’s operations, its people, and its work ethic.

Navigating Social Dynamics

Another significant aspect of the first day at work is navigating the social dynamics of the new workplace. This involves meeting new colleagues, understanding their roles, and learning how to interact with them effectively. It’s also about fitting into the office culture and finding one’s place in the social fabric of the workplace. The first interactions can be a bit awkward, but they are also the foundation of future professional relationships.

The first day at work is a unique experience that leaves a lasting impression. It’s a day of many firsts – the first impression of the workplace, the first interactions with colleagues, the first understanding of the job role, and the first steps towards becoming a part of the company. It’s a day filled with anticipation, learning, and socializing. It’s a day that marks the beginning of a new chapter in one’s professional life. As such, the first day at work is not just about starting a new job; it’s about embarking on a new journey of growth, learning, and self-discovery.

Extract of sample "The First Work Experience"

This was my first employment opportunity because I had never applied for employment of any sort before. Because of this, I was not sure what was required of me because it was a new environment for me. I had not understood issues of professionalism practically because I had never worked in any office. This was an opportunity for me to learn new things and understand how employment works.

I applied for this work when I had completed my first semester as a first-year student at the university. I was excited when my application was accepted. I was tasked with working as an office assistant in a business law firm. The first day at work was excellent because all that I was required to do was to learn from another office assistant who was instructed to show me the responsibilities that were required of me at the firm.

I learned to do different things in my three months working at the firm. Some of the professional responsibilities that I learned by doing them include receiving and distributing communications, checking stock to determine inventory, maintaining office schedules, serving customers, resolving simple administrative problems, such as reconciling reports, coordinating messenger services, fax, and email documents, retrieve information when requested, maintain office supplies and equipment and answer phones and transfer to appropriate staff members among other responsibilities. This was a valuable experience for me because it improved my knowledge, especially by practicing different things daily.

At work, I interacted with different types of people establishing new relationships and also learning how office relationships work. The office had people who worked as colleagues at the same level while others were managers to other employees. I was able to see how managers relate with junior employees and vice-versa and also how colleagues relate to each other. This aspect helped me learn the importance of teamwork and harmony in the work environment.

Another important aspect that I learned in the office was the importance of conflict resolution. In offices, people have misunderstandings because of different issues where people may have different ideologies. However, to ensure that the workplace is an environment where people can be productive, there must be conflict resolution mechanisms that help people solve their misunderstandings as quickly as possible and get back to work.

I did not understand other issues at the office because of my level of education and lack of experience and this limited what I could do. This emphasized the importance of my university education because the completion of my studies will ensure that I get the required skills and knowledge to perform highly at such institutions. The work experience motivated me to work harder in my studies because I could see the importance it had firsthand.

In my first work experience, I not only gained knowledge and experience in the workplace but I also had the chance to see aspects such as teamwork, trust, motivation, leadership, intellect, and experience at work. There were times that I had difficulty coping because it was my first job experience. However, through hard work and perseverance, I completed the period that I had signed up for and came out a better person.

I remember the first time I met my supervisor. Oh yes, it was a nightmare, I tell you! Ten long, boring hours with Mrs Mcgreen were torture! Believe me, spending time with her would be the last thing you would ever want to do. From the moment I stepped through the broken sliding doors of the "99p" store, she was on my case. Admittedly, I was ten minutes late but it was only my first day! Mrs McGreen roared her way from the till right to my face, screaming to herself. There was a ten second pause; it sent cold shivers down my spine.

Then, like a million fire alarms going off at once, she yelled, "You are ten minutes and twenty six second late! I felt as if my ear drums had burst. I backed away from her carefully, making su

re I didn't stumble over all the cans on the floor, some leaking... With those bony, slippery and almost mouldy fingers, she grabbed my collar. As if that wasn't enough, her fingers stank of salt and vinegar! "Errrr.

.. I am here for my work experience placement" I exclaimed nervously. I couldn't help but notice her hideous, cracked lips and what seemed to be emerald green mould dripping from the corner of her mouth as she spoke. "Yes, I know! Now grab that broom and go sweep this whole store.I don't want to see a single piece of dirt on my floor! "I hurried to pick up the broom.

You probably want to know what she was wearing so I'll tell you: a purple and black stripy scarf was hanging down from her neck; small spike

were sticking out of it. No wonder she was so moody! A "bottle cap" badge (pinned on her armour-like jumper) read: "Mrs McGreen here to help". How much more can a badge lie! It's like putting a "bathroom" sign on my brother's bedroom door! There were stains, stains and even more stains all over her trousers and shirt. Even the floor seemed cleaner than her. Some stains were recognisable, like the smear of ketchup all over her chest, but there were also some which weren't that clear. For example, those purple droplets rolling down her shoulder.

I finished sweeping at around 3:30, if the clock in that store worked. I asked Mrs Mcgreen carefully if I could finally go home, making sure I sealed my ears first before another burst of police sirens emerged from her mouth. She grinned nastily- at that moment her grin felt like that of a witch. "Oh, but you're not finished m'boy.

You still have to do my office, and believe me, it's far worse than anything you've ever done in your life! And it was... As I opened the rusted handle, I found I was trembling.

What dangers lay in store? The room was small and dusty, smelling of rotten fish. There were papers piled from floor to ceiling and collapsing boxes in each, cobweb-covered corner. I didn't know where to start. Suddenly, I smelt something new hit the dank air and realised my supervisor was behind me.

"I've tidied up for you," she stated, before storming out again. I dreaded to think what state the place had been in before Mrs McGreen's spring clean! As I began to sweep dead

insects off the floor, I prayed that she didn't invite me home for tea!
