Essays About Your Mom: Top 5 Examples and 5 Prompts

Some of the most important memories in our lives involve our mothers. If you need to write essays about your mom, our guide will help.

A mother is a female parent of a child. Mothers nurture their children throughout childhood and, for many, throughout adulthood as well. The desire to support and protect our children is never ending for many mothers.

Motherhood, however, is not always a genetic role. Many people foster or adopt children or find themselves acting in a parental role for someone else’s children. What matters is the effort you put into a motherly role; for most, the instincts are all there.

It can safely be said that a mom is one of the most significant role models one can have in life and one whose influence continues to inspire. I once read a statement that said, ‘one day, you will realize your Mom is the best friend you will ever have.’ That is certainly true for me, and I hope for many of you.

If you are writing essays about your mom, our essay examples should prove inspiring.

5 Top Essay Examples

1. story of my mom by wilbur mckenzie, 2. an open letter to my mom, and all moms by samantha wolf , 3. my mom is a movie star by dan moore, 4. leader of my life: my mother by chelsea gonzales.

5 Writing Prompts On Essays About Your Mom

1. the best memory of your mom, 2. a lesson your mom taught you, 3. what is your mom’s best quality, 4. your mom as a role model, 5. who is your mom.

“My mother believes in me, in everything I do, and is always positive about it. Every decision, task, and every level that I concur, my mom is always there, believing in me that I will succeed. Graduating 5th grade and moving up to 6th grade was a big step, just like graduating 8th grade and moving up to 9th grade was. But my mother believed that I would still do well in school and would enjoy it a lot.”

Mckenzie writes about his mother as his greatest influence and inspiration. He reflects on how his mom always makes sure he is well and how she loves the family unconditionally. He also describes her selflessness, as she volunteers for those in need and raises money for charity. Her mother’s love, selflessness, and encouragement inspire Mckenzie to try his best in everything he does, and he is genuinely grateful for her.

“All I can say is thank you for being an amazing mother and all I want for you is to keep doing what makes you happy and brightens your day. Keep creating and going to the beach just to look at the ocean. Keep running, even if it’s not in marathons and don’t forget how awesome of a mother you are. Keep collecting seashells and spreading your positive energy everywhere you go. I love you, Mom.”

Wolf’s essay is addressed to her own mother and is composed of different notes and letters. According to Wolf, her mother is hardworking, optimistic, and devoted, and she recalls several moments they shared. The moments she describes are heartfelt and profound experiences that many can relate to.

“To this day, she wakes up every morning, marches into our living room, and talks with cancer patients on the phone, lending them her empathy and expertise. It’s amazing, and I wanted her to know I saw all that. I wanted her to know I knew she’s always been a badass. I wanted her to know she’s an inspiration to me, a dynamic, courageous, capable, remarkable person I admire and study every day.”

Moore discusses his mother’s life beyond her role in his life. He briefly tells her life story, then writes about her work for a colon cancer foundation. She spends most of her time consoling and caring for cancer patients; only now is Moore able to appreciate what she is doing. He is in awe at all that his mom has been able to accomplish besides being a great mother to him.

“She utilizes her wisdom by teaching me the ways of life. She rejoices as I apply her teachings in my life and she understands me. The abundance of knowledge my mother has supplied me with continuously fills my life with rare and beautiful treasures.”

In her essay, Gonzales reflects on the spiritual lessons her mom has instilled in her. Her mother is a role model of a strong, Christian woman devoted to her family and God. She is always there for her daughter, giving her advice on how to handle difficult situations. Gonzales aspires to be just like her mother in everything she does, especially when raising her own children.

 5. Your Mom Doesn’t Hate You, She’s Just Trying to Help You by Carly Newberg

“I’m not a parent (yet). However, I hope that when I am, I can take what I’ve learned from the obstacles I’ve faced with my mom, to keep the generational progress moving forward. After all, that is one of the beautiful gifts we’re given on Earth; To learn from the mistakes of our loved ones, map out our route accordingly, do our best to get where we are going, and accept the detours along the way knowing those after us will use them to love harder and live wiser.”

In this essay, Newberg discusses a phenomenon we are all too familiar with: mothers arguing with us. She explains that despite their seemingly curtailing actions, mothers always want what is best for us and are even struggling with whether their decisions are correct. Newberg suggests that we should be understanding of our mothers and use these experiences as lessons for how to parent in the future.

Essays About Your Mom: The best memory of your mom

For your essay, reflect on an experience with your mom that you treasure. Perhaps it is a birthday celebration, a trip out of town, or simply a conversation you had. Describe the events that transpired, how they made you feel, and why you treasure them as you do. Also, consider if your perception of this event has changed. Perhaps it has taught you more than you first thought.

One of a mother’s primary roles is to teach her children essential skills and lessons to prepare them for the future. Think about one or more things your mom taught you, whether life skills, values, or otherwise. You can be as general or in-depth as you want regarding what you’ve learned from your mom, but be sure to explain it adequately.

For an interesting essay topic, write about a quality of your mom’s that you seek to emulate- her patience, kindness, or fortitude. Discuss why you have chosen it, how it is essential to who your mom is, and how you hope to use it in the future.

Essays About Your Mom: Your mom as a role model

Mothers are role models to everyone, not only their kids but also to others they interact with daily. In your essay, you can reflect on a time your mom did something truly admirable that cemented her position as your role model. As with the other essays, describe the events, what you learned, and why you chose this. You may also comment on how it has shaped you as a prospective or active parent. Discuss any aspects of parenthood you would like to emulate and those you would not!

This essay topic may seem simple, but one can learn much about a person from a simple biography and reflection. Give readers a general idea of what your mom does, her role in your life, and how she has made you who you are today; paint a picture of this fantastic woman and why she is so important. You can include something about her background and note how it has influenced her, making her the mom she is. Also, you may consider whether any of her inherited traits have been passed to you.

As I thought about who had had the greatest impact on my life, I began to think of everyone who had been involved in my academic and athletic careers. I realized that I was looking in the wrong part of my life. These people have passed through my life, yet the person who had the most impact was one who affected me everyday. My mother, by far, has had the greatest impact on my life. Her heart and determination are something that I can only hope to have myself one day. I have watched her struggle with running a household while trying to balance returning to college full-time and working a part-time job. I did not realize as a young child what courage it took to take on this workload. Now, as I enter the college scene directly from high school, I cannot imagine how hard it must have been to juggle the everyday work of being a full-time mother as well as the workload of college. She never hesitated to drop everything to rush my brother and me to dance, soccer, riding, or karate. I could always look up from the sidelines of a game to see her cheering me on, while she held an armload of books and tried to occupy my brother. My mother has shown me that with determination and perservance one can accomplish anything. As the years passed, she could be found studying for a test while sewing the sequins on my dance recital costume. She finally graduated four years later, summa cum lauda from Keene State. Now she was faced with the task of finding a job, which proved to be even more difficult than receiving her degree. When she finally landed a job about a half hour away, never did she complain about the ride or the terrors she encountered in the classroom. She worked hard every day to provide her classroom of children the best education possible. I have seen my mother give up as she struggled to further her education, raise a family, and find a job. She has always supported me in all my choices. She strived to make my brother and me strong people with independent minds. I look to her in hopes that someday I will be as happy, as strong, and as well-spoken as her. She has taught me the most important thing in life - never give up on your dreams. I thank her dearly for helping me become who I am today. I would have never made it as far as I have without her help.-

Outline Writing

Before starting the essay, it is very important to construct the perfect outline. Make the perfect plan and execute it smoothly. You can note down all your points on a piece of paper not to run out of ideas during the writing. Make sure that your outline covers all the points. An essay is normally divided into three parts. It contains the introduction, the main body, and the conclusion. Each of these parts has its importance.

An outline will give your essay a perfect shape. It will help improve the clarity of your essay and will it one of a kind.

Tips Concerning Writing An Introduction

Body paragraphs, also known as the main body, are the heart of the essay. These paragraphs are long, and each part explains one point in the essay. The main body must be free of all errors, and the vocabulary must be on point. Try to give one point to one paragraph so that the reader might easily navigate around the essay. Take each memory of your mother and write it in one paragraph. This will get you the perfect essay.

Body Paragraphs must not be that much longer. This is because a long paragraph might be boring for the reader, and he might lose attention after a while. Try to use transition words to connect all the paragraphs so that the document flows well.

How To Write a Conclusion in A Mother Essay

A mother essay conclusion must also be 10% of the entire document. Never add any new piece of information in the conclusion. The conclusion is supposed to reignite the thesis statement and not include new facts. Try to keep the conclusion short and leave the essay with good remarks.

Think of the conclusion as a summary of your essay. Try to squeeze in all the points in a few lines to make the last paragraph memorable.

Essay Revision

Give your essay a long and good read. Make sure to identify all the mistakes in the writing. Essay revision is very important because you never know the points that you missed. Doing a thorough revision will help your essay become perfect in every way.

Essay Proofreading

Even if you are an experienced writer, proofreading is very important. You can identify the grammar and vocabulary mistakes in the document to make amendments. Most people are prone to make silly mistakes, and since they don’t proofread, the entire essay suffers. Ask your friend to read the entire essay so that you might have a fresh set of eyes on the document to identify mistakes.

Make Citations

Adding references will make your essay look more authentic than the rest. Adding citations won’t be appropriate in a mother’s essay, but make sure you add them anyway. It looks professional, and the professor might be impressed.

My Mother Essay

Some people in our lives have the most impact on our personality. My mother has been the source of my happiness and clarity since I was very small. Words can’t even begin to describe what she meant to me. When I was born, I couldn’t speak, but she understood my every word and reacted accordingly. The most important person in my life is my mother because she has always been there for me in all my life ventures. She helped shape the man I am today.

I was a very spontaneous kid. My mother made sure that I knew that I had her full support in every phase of life. When I was 13 years old, I wanted to play the guitar and become a musician. No matter how unprofessional my dream was, she made sure that she was by my side. She was the first to lend me money when I started my start-up, and even though it failed, she never said one negative thing to me. And the best part is that she cares for everyone in our family with the same amount of love. When our dogs get sick, she spends hours looking after them and takes them to the vet whenever required.

My mother leads a very simple life. Her day starts with waking us up for breakfast, and she makes sure that our favorite things are made for breakfast. I enjoy chocolate syrup pancakes, so she makes sure to make them almost every day. Then she works in the garden for 2 hours. She loves looking after plants and growing them. I feel like the two hours in the garden are the best part of her day. Her caring attitude towards everything makes her the perfect person to look after our plants.

Other than gardening, she loves reading. We have our little library besides my room which is filled with books that my mom had bought. A library is a sacred place, and we aren’t allowed there at times. She makes sure that our house is spot on. My mother is a neat freak. She hates when something is untidy or dirty. My mother often scolds me because I never put my laundry in the designated pile. She makes sure that our house is spot on, and the housekeeper leaves no work behind.

The amount of dedication my mother has towards my school is surprising. She always helps me in doing my homework and asks me how my day at school was. She has the sweetest personality, and anyone who meets her instantly starts liking her.

I would not give up my mother even for one day because my life would fall apart if not for her. She has made me into the confident and high-achieving individual that I am today. My life would have been a mess if my mother wasn’t there to help me out in every step.

Free Essay On Soledad: Familial And Romantic Love

Free essay on literary comparative on the rocking horse winner and the hamlet, introduction, free the importance of sexuality essay sample, analyzing parent-child attachment through observation essay samples, literary analysis: ballad of birmingham poem by dudley randall essay, family systems theory essay examples, essay on social history tom scott, introduction and background, the values and worldview of mother teresa essay example, role model review: the values and worldview of mother teresa.

This essay seeks to expound on the values and worldview of Mother Teresa, with regard to family, the nature of God, career as well as social issues. The essay compares and contrasts the authors personal views and experiences with those of Mother Teresa, the role model. It also attempts to explain why the role model should be emulated by all.

Throughout her lifetime, Mother Teresa, was always remembered and commended for her selfless service to humanity. Through her “Mission of Charity,’ Mother Teresa was able to connect and help many people in the world, as well as, serve as a true icon for others to emulate. Under her selfless leadership, the mission virtually made such an impact; that all countries in the world have played host to some of her charity work.

Mother Teresa was particularly touched by the plight of the poor, the sickly and the hopeless.Through her mission, she personally ministered to many individuals; visited those who were in need, as well as, helped to create homes for the poor and orphaned. Even in her death, her charity continues to spread the message of peace, love and unity (which she believed to be the key pillars for a prosperous and harmonious world).

Family issues

Mother Teresa’s world view revolved around service to mankind. She believed that man was made in the image of God. Therefore, she genuinely felt that by providing service to mankind, she wasproviding service to God. On that notation and genuine belief, she spent her entire life traversing the world preaching the message of love.MotherTeresa, believed that love for the world begins with love for the family.

In Mother Teresa’s speech (when she received the Nobel Peace Prize), she told the audience that the only way to maintain world peace was for each of the attendants to go home and love their family. Although Mother Teresa, by virtue of her religion never got married; her actions and activities reveal her deep seated values of the family institution. Her charity work all over the world has been very instrumental in maintaining the oneness of the family institution.

I strongly believe that charity begins at home. The love for others should begin with the love for ones’ family, since they are closest. This, therefore means that if each person loved their families, and showed love to all people in the world, then it's obvious that the world would be peaceful, just as envisioned by Mother Teresa.

Although Teresa valued and treasured the family institution, she herself never got married, most likely because of her Christian faith. This is in contrast with my personal world view. I believe that people should get married and have babies. In accordance with the Bible, in the book of Genesis, the Lord God commanded the first human creation, to go and multiply. In accordance with this commandment, it's my believe that people should get married and get children, which contrasts significantly with Mothers View.

Money/ Career

Mother Teresa was a career nun, and spent her entire life ministering to the people. She believed that everything that someone had or was blessed with, was vanity. This is because it did not utilized for the service of humanity. Mother Teresa could not understand why people would have more than they needed, when others were dying of lack.

The Catholic faith that Mother Teresa professed did not allow nuns to even earn a salary(and because of thisshe was never a rich person). She dedicated herself entirely to her lifetime commitment and genuine efforts to selflessly serve mankind (with no ulterior motive or propositions).

I agree with her, on the point that people should not possess more that they actually require, at the expense of the many poor people. Global statistics indicate that there is unreasonable inequity between the haves and the have-nots in the society that we live in.

However, most countries and economies are capitalist in nature, and this allows for people to own as much as they can be able to afford. Understandably, therefore, I do not find anything wrong with owning property, or even being wealthy, even in the face of poverty. This is because, socialism has been criticized for fostering laziness amongst the citizenry, since they hope to benefit from the free goodies that are availed in the view of Mother Teresa. This, is in sharp contrast to her views that we should share the little that we have.

Today, the Missions for Charity foundation is still present all over the world. It relies on entirely on donations from well-wishers for funding of their global and humanitarian efforts. It can therefore be said that,Mother Teresa was a successful in furthering her activities, and her convictions that all mankind is the same, and created in Gods same image. Therefore, man should use all what God has given freely, to freely serve the less fortunate, the poor, the sickly, and the orphaned.

Social Issues

As a catholic nun, Mother Teresa lived a life of piety and purity as was a requirement of her faith. She believed in a life of purity, as the Catholic faith demanded that nuns remained chaste all through their service. However, throughout her entire life, mother was always involved in helping in one way or another in the society.Through her Mission for Charity, Mother Teresa interacted with many people, and made many friends. Up to her death and sainthood, Mother Teresa is remembered for her contribution to the society.

In my unbiased opinion, I totally agree with Mother Teresa, on the fact that true Christians should emulate the life of Jesus Christ and attempt to live a life of purity and piety as is required in the Holy Bible. The Bible in the new testament exemplifies the life of Jesus Christ when he was in this world. He fed the hungry, healed the sick, gave hope to the hopeless among many other good deeds.

In a real world situation, however, it's quite difficult to manage to live the life of Jesus of Jesus Christ, in the present world, where there have been many changes in the social set up in the world that we live in. We have the social media and the internet that has significantly changed the way people live. These have therefore made it very difficult for people to live the lives of piety and religion that was lived by Mother Teresa.

This is in great contrast to the modern Catholic Church, which has been marred with a multiplicity of allegations. The church contrasts significantly with the worldview of Mother Teresa, in that most of the activities that are being witnessed in the church today leave a lot to be desired.

Recent media reports indicate that the papacy has been unable to deal with the rampant cases of child sexual abuse among the Catholic faithful. International media are also reporting that the actions taken by the catholic church globally, has not been deterred to the perpetrators of such vices, and the cases are on the increase.

The church seems to have lost the morals that are exemplified in the holy bible. People no longer love one another in the church. In fact, the average catholic is more concerned about amassing wealth, more than serving humankind, as is commanded in the holy Bible. This is in complete contrast to the work, actions of Mother Teresa(who would highly contempt such activities).

Nature of Gods

All throughout the bible, God is portrayed as a loving person, who cares for his people, and provides for them. God is the only hope that human-beings have, as his love is steadfast and endures forever. He revealed his love for his creation by sacrificing his only son, Jesus Christ to die for the sake our sins. In the New Testament, the bible talks about the love that God has for humanity. It furthermore describes in great details, the numerous acts God displayed his power through his son, Jesus Christ. All the acts portrayed are symbolic of the love that God has shown to human kind.

Most significantly, the bible talks about Love as being the greatest commandment of God. It explains that if we love one another, as we love our God, then the world will be free of all evils.

During her days on earth,Mother Teresa displayed an unconditional amount of love to mankind. This is because she believed that if she had to love God, then she had to Love mankind; and such love could only be shown through acts of kindness and mercy towards the less fortunate. Her Mission for Charity organization is a clear depiction of how she lived and the great love that she had for Gods people(Corsgrove,2006).

On a personal perspective, I agree with the teaching of the Bible as well as the world view of Mother Teresa with regard to the nature of God.I believe, just as the Bible says, that we are all made in the image of God, and therefore we should attempt to portray the image of God in our day to day activities. On the contrary, there is little love for others in the world today. The activities that we witness in everyday life show a lifestyle that is devoid of the love that God commanded that we should show to one another.

If people followed the footsteps and teachings of Mother Teresa, then the world would be a great place to live in. No one would rise against one another, as well as, love and live harmoniously together. Then and only then the world would experience great peace. That is why I believe that everyone (including myself) would gladly emulate Mother Teresa.

Mother Love

Behind everything you do is always your mother’s love, because her love is forever. Her love for the child is an opening into another kind of pure relationship that starts from the day she conceives, and it grows over the years and lasts till the end.

The Mother’s love starts when a baby looks like a peanut. That is true. From the first picture taken in a clinical lab and the child appeared as nothing more than a blip on the ultrasound monitor.

Tears of joy may stream down her delicate and pale face, and she declared it to be the most beautiful sight she had ever seen. The next nine months are a blur because the baby had to focus on surviving while being cushioned in the loving embrace of its mother. Love is pain – that is true because biologically, the child is nothing more than a parasite that feeds on the life and blood of its mother.

Some people might say that their real love is their spouse or their first-born or their very own first car or their dog, and they all have their reasons for it. However, these loves grow from what love your mother showed you first in life. It is a trend these days to make slight of pure emotions and heartfelt gestures because this era is all about angst-ridden, oversexed and dramatic love that sometimes borders on abuse and erotica. For a mother’s love, love is about purity – unconditional and independent. It is a beautiful feeling, which manifests itself in different forms all through life.

So this lady that a child first fell in love with goes from having jet-black hair to silver threads lined in between. She would spin the thick mass in a braid, and the baby will pull and play with it as the mother cradles the child in her lap and rocks it to sleep. Every little detail about her fascinates the little child. Her soft skin that feels warm while her eyes are a rich brown color. Her earlobe is the child’s favorite play toy every time she would carry it around the house in her arms. Often a child would tug at the gold chain around her neck and twist tiny fingers in her hair. Just touching her felt like being at home. Some babies are terrified of everything and her soothing touch chases away every monster under the bed and the nightmares in the closet.

They say life happens as you grow up. What started out as a pure relationship soon gets stained with the information, the racket and the hassle of this world. New friends, better ways to pass time, never-ending curiosity and the twisted ways in which the brain begins to think are some of the reasons why the fabric of love sewn over age begins to fray around the edges. The child grows into a young adult while the mother becomes old, but the love between them always remains ageless and unchanged.

A Mother's Inspiration by Katoria

Katoria's entry into Varsity Tutor's October 2019 scholarship contest

A Mother's Inspiration by Katoria - October 2019 Scholarship Essay

The person who has inspired me the most when it comes to academics is my mother. From an early age, my mother instilled in me the old adage, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste.” Even though she did not attend college, she always pushed me to do my best in all aspects of my life, including academically.

When I was in the first grade, I remember struggling to understand what was being taught in class. When my mother realized that I was having a hard time, she required me to bring home all of my school books every day. Even if I did not have homework, she still insisted that I bring them home anyway. As a young child I did not like doing this; I remember the stares and questions of the other students as they wondered why I would do such a thing when there was no homework.

Boggled down by the weight of my backpack, I remember the slow trudge to my mom’s van every day after school while the other students skipped merrily along. I hated being the only one that had to do this and would dread the bell at the end of the day.

Bringing my books home, my mother would go through each subject with me one by one. Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Religion, and Language Arts were all reviewed at home every single night. Despite the fact that my mother worked the night shift, she did not rest until she made sure that I grasped all the information from each subject. While my sisters would play and have fun, I had to be at the kitchen table relearning these subjects with my mom.

After a couple of weeks however, I started to notice that I better understood my teacher’s instruction. This was evident not only by the way I was able to follow along during class, but also by my grades. I went from receiving C’s, D’s, and sometimes even F’s to all A’s and B’s. This was because my mother worked with me every night with all of my class subjects to make sure I understood the material.

Even after I had drastically improved my grades, my mother wanted to make sure that I stayed on this track and still required that I bring home all of my books. This continued all throughout elementary, middle school, and part of junior high school.

However, as the material in junior high started to get more complicated, my mother’s ability to help me understand the material diminished. She did not remember a lot of the information from her own schooling and because of this, I had to lessen my reliance on her. By this time however, she had instilled in me the skills that I needed in order to succeed on my own. Through all of those years that my mother made me bring home all of my books, my mother taught me not only how to effectively study but also how to advocate for my education by asking questions.

These imperative skills carried me throughout my high school years and because of this, I graduated high school with an honors degree and a 3.8 grade point average. Without my mother’s teachings, I do not believe that I would have had the academic success that I have experienced. Without her assistance, I believe that I would have gotten frustrated with school and would not have a desire to pursue higher education. However, because she took the time to make sure I understood the class material as well as the importance of education, since a young age I have had the yearning to pursue a higher education as well as a yearning to help other youth understand the importance of academics.

I love her not because she is my mother and we should respect our elders. I respect her because she has taken care of me when I was not able to speak. At that time, she has taken care of all my needs when I wasn’t able to speak.

Additionally, she taught me how to walk, speak, and take care of myself. Similarly, every bigger step that I have taken in my life is all because of my mother. Because, if she hasn’t taught me how to take small steps then I won’t be able to take these bigger step.

When I was afraid of the dark she would become my light and guide me in that darkness. Also, if I can’t sleep at night she would hold my head on her lap until I fell asleep. Above all, she never leaves my side even in the hardest of times.

Every mother is special for her children. She is a great teacher, a lovely friend, a strict parent. Also, she takes cares of the need of the whole family. If there is anyone out there who loves us more than our mother is only God. Not just for my mother but for every mother out there who lives her life for her family deserves praiseworthy applause.

It took me eighteen years to realize what an extraordinary influence my mother has been on my life. She’s the kind of person who has thoughtful discussions about which artist she would most want to have her portrait painted by (Sargent), the kind of mother who always has time for her four children, and the kind of community leader who has a seat on the board of every major project to assist Washington’s impoverished citizens. Growing up with such a strong role model, I developed many of her enthusiasms. I not only came to love the excitement of learning simply for the sake of knowing something new, but I also came to understand the idea of giving back to the community in exchange for a new sense of life, love, and spirit.

My mother’s enthusiasm for learning is most apparent in travel. I was nine years old when my family visited Greece. Every night for three weeks before the trip, my older brother Peter and I sat with my mother on her bed reading Greek myths and taking notes on the Greek Gods. Despite the fact that we were traveling with fourteen-month-old twins, we managed to be at each ruin when the site opened at sunrise. I vividly remember standing in an empty amphitheatre pretending to be an ancient tragedian, picking out my favorite sculpture in the Acropolis museum, and inserting our family into modified tales of the battle at Troy. Eight years and half a dozen passport stamps later I have come to value what I have learned on these journeys about global history, politics and culture, as well as my family and myself.

While I treasure the various worlds my mother has opened to me abroad, my life has been equally transformed by what she has shown me just two miles from my house. As a ten year old, I often accompanied my mother to (name deleted), a local soup kitchen and children’s center. While she attended meetings, I helped with the Summer Program by chasing children around the building and performing magic tricks. Having finally perfected the “floating paintbrush” trick, I began work as a full time volunteer with the five and six year old children last June. It is here that I met Jane Doe, an exceptionally strong girl with a vigor that is contagious. At the end of the summer, I decided to continue my work at (name deleted) as Jane’s tutor. Although the position is often difficult, the personal rewards are beyond articulation. In the seven years since I first walked through the doors of (name deleted), I have learned not only the idea of giving to others, but also of deriving from them a sense of spirit.

Everything that my mother has ever done has been overshadowed by the thought behind it. While the raw experiences I have had at home and abroad have been spectacular, I have learned to truly value them by watching my mother. She has enriched my life with her passion for learning, and changed it with her devotion to humanity. In her endless love of everything and everyone she is touched by, I have seen a hope and life that is truly exceptional. Next year, I will find a new home miles away. However, my mother will always be by my side.

The topic of this essay is the writer’s mother. However, the writer definitely focuses on herself. She manages to impress the reader with her travel experience, volunteer and community experience, and commitment to learning without ever sounding boastful or full of herself. The essay is also well organized.

Inexperienced writers may think that this sample is well-done and needs no improvement. In truth, it shows the importance of a professional approach to editing college essays we promote. Writing and submitting an admission essay is the process defining your future, and we think it’s okay to order pro editing just in case.

Managing my time in college as a mom

  • March 5, 2021

college essay on mother

This blog post was written by College Forward student, Claudia Gloria in July 2020.

Hi, my name is Claudia Gloria and like most college students I’ve had my share of not having too much time to do anything. Like, getting a paper done, studying for a test, making it to class, eating, sleeping, social life,  etc. You get the picture. No one really informs you on how to manage everything while going to college for the next four years or more. I know in my first year of college it was hard trying to balance everything and at times felt like there was not a lot of time to do everything I wanted to do. But, as time went on I soon started realizing that it was possible to manage my time and be able to do everything I needed and wanted to do.

How I manage my time

While in college, I had to manage working two jobs, taking two classes online, and being pregnant. Sometimes, life doesn’t really give you a moment to just breathe. I got through by maintaining a schedule; what I usually do to make a schedule is have my planner out and write everything down. When writing everything down in my planner, I prioritize what is needing my attention first and what can be put to finish last. I work pretty much from 8 am to 5 pm, and after work, I do my class stuff for at least 3 hours. After that, I watch tv or have “me time” until at least 11 pm. Then I head to bed, wake up, and do the schedule all over again the next day.

Since finding out I was pregnant, making a schedule became something that I wanted to do, to have to do. Becoming a first-time parent has changed my perspective on everything, ensuring that I get everything done on time, from getting school work done correctly and on time to making sure that I schedule my doctor appointments and requesting days off of work for them. No one prepares you for your plans changing when a baby becomes part of those plans that already existed, but that does not mean they go away; they just get to be shared with another person you love that can see you grow and accomplish your dreams.

Most students also have to work and go to school. On the Mental Health America site, “About half of full-time students have jobs outside of school. This number jumps to 80% when it comes to part-time students.” Some may get burned out, and some may continue doing it. Even when managing your time to perfection, you still feel the pressure and stress of never having enough time to get everything done. Even with making a schedule and getting every little thing done on a list that I make, I still feel overly stressed. Some ways that I have found to be effective to get rid of the stress with school and outside of school can benefit almost every student going through the same issues.

Mitigating “not doing enough” stress

Anna Heinrich wrote that there are seven effective ways to manage your time in college and still remain sane.

Write down everything

This does work well. I noticed having my planner with me and writing down important times and events has really been helping me make sure that I do not schedule something on top of anything else.

Use your phone for good

Some professors encourage technology. Others do not. The way you can use your technical devices would be to have your recorder on during lectures. Or even to write down notes in them as well and to use as a calendar when you do not have a planner with you.

Stick to a routine

Having a routine everyday is effective when you know what you’re going to do every day, especially when you are going to school and have a million things to do. But, you should also go outside of that routine and make time for yourself to do something that is not in your normal routine. Go to the park, ride your bike, see the friends you have made while going to college, and have a little me time like relax or read a book that has nothing to do with school whatsoever or been assigned to you.

A healthy diet and working out has been shown to relieve stress and made going to school a little more calming for me. Working out and exercising can make you keep your levels of energy up, making you want to accomplish more in that one day.

Stay organized

In college, organization is really the key to succeeding, with having an organized schedule a list then you’re able to do more by checking each thing off. Avoiding, procrastination, and having a messy area can really make a person go nuts plus it will also make assignments harder to accomplish and get done.

Checklists are your friend

This goes back to being organized and sticking to a routine. With a checklist, you are able to see what needs to be done, what has been completed, and what has not. It helps make certain tasks either a higher priority or something that can be done after the most important task is completed.

Find a balance

Having a balance in college keeps you afloat and it helps keep your sanity intact. With a balance of being able to learn and do school work, you can get all the important stuff done You can take time off from just going to work day in and day out because school is considered work as well there has to be a balance between the two to make sure that you’re not losing it during your first year.

With this list, I can say personally that they are effective since I have used some of these steps to get through my own journey in college and in my personal life.

You may be thinking, “Okay, I have this list that you got from someone else. What am I supposed to do to follow each point made?” Different people are organized in different ways. It is important to try out different time management tools. What works for your friends or classmates may not work for you. Whether you want to do each step that is listed or just do a few even, doing a few of them will make it easier to transition into college. This list also helps with everyday life situations like having a job or family, I know some parents use a planner to organize their everyday life like work-wise and manage their family.

Essay on My Mother 500 words

My mother has had the greatest influence on me throughout my life. Through her, I have learned a lot of things about how to traverse the various facets of life. By seeing the kind of person she was while I grew up, I have modeled the kind of woman I want to become as well. My mother is my guide, idol, and source of inspiration in life, and I can say it with great pride.

My mother is the one person whom I can completely trust. She is the main reason for my progress and development since she works relentlessly. She never makes any distinctions within the family and provides our entire family with equal and undivided devotion and love.

Her devotion to her family is unwavering and complete. She puts her own needs and desires aside for the sake of her family. My mother has been my greatest source of inspiration and has played an important role in my spiritual, emotional, and intellectual development.

Mothers are an Inspiration

A mother contains several characteristics that make her the embodiment of love and dedication. She is forgiving and understands us when we make mistakes. She takes severe measures to fix our mistakes and ensures that we are aware of our responsibilities. From sunrise to night, day in and day out, a mother works tirelessly to fulfill all of our dreams.

A mother is someone who consoles you in your time of need, makes sacrifices, and makes every attempt to provide a comfortable life for her child. A mother is a selfless individual who, like the sun, chases away all darkness and shines the light of happiness and love onto her family.

Motivation is a state of mind that enables us to successfully complete any project or task. It is a form of a natural environment that aids our physical and social growth. We know that we can attain any goal, even in the most difficult circumstances, because of inspiration coming from a person or an event.

For the growth of our abilities, we seek encouragement from other sources, such as a popular figure or a special person near us who encourages us whether we can achieve the objective even in difficult situations.

As a result, we are capable of completing this task. Numerous people are inspired by legendary or historical figures, and then many people are inspired by famous people or their parents. It makes no difference who your source of inspiration is or how much you are inspired by its ideas and practices in order to achieve your goal.

Mothers are a constant source of inspiration and motivation for children to become good individuals as they grow older. They instill in them a sense of responsibility, care and affection for others, and a sense of resilience that can hardly be found anywhere else.

Every person must have some sense of creativity in his life from which he can draw inspiration in order to attain his life objectives and progress. A teacher might be an inspiration in someone’s life, a successful person can be an inspiration in someone else’s, but in my life, my mother is my biggest motivation. She is the individual who has motivated me to attain my life’s objectives and to keep moving forward.

My mother is also an admiration to me because, while most individuals work to gain popularity and a name in society, a mother never feels that. All she wants for her children is for them to achieve in life. She is not motivated by self-interest in her work. This is why I regard my mother to be a human manifestation of God.

My Mother is My Best Friend

My mother is my teacher, advisor, and greatest friend, and she plays many vital roles in my life. It works to instill confidence in me when I’m having an issue. Whatever I am today is solely due to my mother’s presence in my life, as she was present for both my successes and failures. I couldn’t picture my life without her, which is why I consider her my closest buddy.

Despite the many roles a woman plays in her life, the bond she shares with her mother is one of the purest relationships in the world. The bond between a mother and her child is indescribable. The mother is also the one who gives birth to her child and raises her. However, a mother’s love for her children never fades, and she is more concerned about their well-being than her own.

To safeguard her child, a mother is willing to face the worst disasters. A mother may shoulder all of the burdens alone, but she will not allow her offspring to be exposed to any form of heat. For these reasons, the mother is regarded as a manifestation of God on Earth, leading to the common proverb, “God cannot exist everywhere, therefore he made mothers.”

A Mother’s Strength

Although my mother may not physically be the strongest person, she nevertheless meets every challenge in her life and that of her family. She is a continual source of inspiration who reminds me to never give up in the face of adversity.

Above all, my mother is a major source of motivation for me, since she encourages me to enhance my abilities, academics, and talents. She inspires me to try again, to never give up, and work hard until I succeed. The way she traverses through the innumerable obstacles she faces in life is a constant reminder of the strength of a woman and how we can face any adversity that comes our way.

During difficult times, my mom is a lifesaver. Despite the fact that she chastises and corrects me, she is the only person capable of solving the problem, whether it is school or life-related. She is my instructor and guide, who shows me the way and steers me through the toughest moments.

Above all, even at the darkest of moments, she never leaves my side. She is an excellent teacher, a rigorous parent, a loyal friend, and a delightful companionship. Not only my mother, but every mother is an expression of God who devotes her entire life to her family and is deserving of much respect and admiration.

A mother possesses both inherent and learned attributes that identify her job as a mother. The key trait of a mother is responsibilities, which comes with motherhood. Regardless of age or repercussions, my mother displays unselfish love and affection.

She is my greatest source of strength and support, and she never fails to inspire and drive us through all of life’s ups and downs. Mothers can understand and empathize with their children. My mother’s most striking characteristic is her tremendous level of acceptance and tolerance. Despite the fact that she is dealing with several issues, she remains calm and patient.

Essay on mother.

1066 words | 4 page(s)

“The man stays a young person until his mother dies. Then he will become an old man.” I will explain this proverb in a few words. When mothers die, the angels of God say to the sons, “Your mother died for whom we used to help you. Now you have to work hard because you are the only one to help yourself.” When a mother prays to God, she will usually ask God to help her sons in their lives. However, when a mother dies, who will ask God to help her sons as she did? The meaning of the word “Mother” is not only a female parent; it is also something more important.

When a mother becomes pregnant, she gives her life to her son. The mother carries her son for nine months. She may lose her health to feed her son inside her body. After she delivers her son, she will continue to feed her son from her body. When her son becomes sick, she will stay with him, watching him and caring for him. When her son starts to walk, she will watch him, so that he does not get hurt. When her son starts to go to school, his mother will wait for him until he comes back. When the son becomes a man he will get married; then he will leave his mother alone. Is that the benefit that a mother should get after everything that she did it for her son?

In my religion, God said in the Quran, “But if they strive with you to make you associate with me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them. And accompany them in this life with kindness; and follow the Path of he who turned to Me. To Me you shall return and I will inform you of all that you have done” (31.15). Some people may say that their mothers were not good to them, so they owe their mothers nothing. However, the Quran states that children have to be kind to their mothers regardless. They will understand why after they get married and have children.

I offer this advice to married people. A mother is something wonderful in life. A son who still has his mother’s love, even though he has a wife who also loves him, has a love like no other, since the love of a mother is unlike any other. There are many women who complain about their mothers-in-law. Women will understand this situation when they become mothers to sons who will become men, and some woman takes the son from his mother. Do you know how jealous she will be? The smart women, who can understand this situation early, will encourage their husbands to visit their mothers and let them call their mothers often. Those women will encourage their husbands to buy gifts for their mothers, because someday that will happen to those women. God treats people equally. What you do to your mothers-in-law will happen to you when you became mothers-in-law.

There are great people, who are scientists, writers, intellectuals, doctors, and teachers. Who is behind them? Are not great mothers encouraging their kids to become great people? Who built all these generations? Is it not great mothers? Mothers are more important than anyone else. The governments of many countries do not seem to know that their greatness comes from mothers. I will explain this: when there are perfect mothers, you will see perfect generations that will take their countries to the top. But when there are bad mothers, you will see bad generations that will take their countries to the bottom.

I will tell you about my family. All my family members are educated people, except my mother, but this does not mean that because she is not educated, she cannot encourage her kids to become educated people. My mother is the most emotional person that I ever seen. She does not like to complain if any of her kids make a mistake, but she uses her emotions to show you that she is sad. My father died when I was two months old, and he left my mother with seven kids when she was still young. She became both father and mother to us. She did not leave us to live her life. Instead, she stayed with us, and she put all her faith in God and in education. She knew that education would be the best investment for her children. My mother is someone who, even if I wrote a book about her, it would not be enough to describe the sacrifices that she made for her kids.

Abraham Lincoln said, “All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” Mothers are important in anybody’s life. The safety and love that everybody feels is from God, then from their mothers. When she dies, there is a big vacancy in her children’s lives. I ask God every day, for every mother that sacrificed for her kids, to go to the paradise without judgment.

I said earlier that “mother” is more than just a female parent – that a mother is something far more important. I stand by this. I think a mother is an expression of God’s love, meaning that “mother” means “love.” A mother is also someone who makes sacrifices for all of their children, sons and daughters. So, “mother” also means “sacrifice.” But even before the children are born into the world, requiring the mother’s sacrifices, the mother is the origin of the son and his world, while he is in her. “Mother” then can also mean “origin” and “world,” for those are the roles she performs.

“Mother” means many things, and many things mean “mother.” To create a single definition of “mother” is difficult. In my religion, mothers should be respected and receive kindness. This signals that mothers are important and deserve respect and kindness. The many roles the mother performs throughout the lives of her children become definitions for “mother” – one who loves her children, one who cares for her children, one who protects her children, one who nourishes her children, one who supports her children, one who teaches her children. All of these things serve as a definition for “mother.” Each one is a definition, and all of them together are a definition for “mother.”

College Essay: Knowing My Grandmother

As I watch my mother spread my grandmother’s ashes around the tree’s roots, I am relieved. She’s always wanted to visit Africa; after 19 years, she’s made it home. The wind picks up and she blows onward. She now lives on the sacred soil of South Africa, in my mother and in me.

There is an old saying that says everyone dies twice — once in their physical form and again when their name has been forgotten. My grandmother Carolyn died 19 years ago, but in my mind, she is 40. She possesses unfiltered laughter. She values freedom, tucks it between her pockets while awaiting better days. I met her through stories narrated over percolating tea on the kitchen table, woven between my mother’s disciplinary tone, in the array of spices kept adjacent to the kitchen sink. She is the base in my mother’s throat when she whispers, “My mother would’ve loved you.” She in the stories my mother tells.

“Today, you and mommy will make smothered chicken, red beans and rice with cornbread,” says Carolyn. My mother, no bigger than a cast iron skillet, replies with a swift nod. She is her mother’s favorite audience. Captivated by what it meant to “throw down,” she eagerly watches her mother soak the red beans in water. Cheryl fidgets in her baby blue jumper as her afro puffs sway in the aroma of cornbread. As she matures, now the size of a crockpot, she chops vegetables, debones chicken and listens. “Recipes are the gospel in this kitchen,” says Carolyn, the corner of her mouth resembling a smile. “There’s no need to jot them down when your legacy can remember forever.”

I too was a watcher, hanging on every word my mother said. “Today we’re making jerk chicken and coconut rice, Kennedy.” I can see everything from my car seat, strategically placed on the kitchen counter. “Watch mommy peel, cook, cut, dice, season, taste …”  “When I was your age, I used to watch my mother cook just like you,” my mother says as she kisses my forehead. Grandma Carolyn was her favorite story to tell while in the kitchen. Between my mother’s 9-to-5 I created midday meals.“Mommy said to place the oven on 325.” I pulled from any recipe she’d ever recited, praying it tasted like home, like mom, like grandma.

I have grown to know my grandmother through the art of storytelling. Teddy Pendergrass and Aretha Franklin swept her off her feet and onto any living room floor, earning her the name Soul Sister No. 5. How quick she was to seize a pen and write—write until concepts cascaded onto the ground which lay beneath her, until a poem appeared.

My grandmother has taught me independence, how the truth is the best kind of answer and that you’ll never regret asking for what you’re worth. She has taught me creativity is inherent, brown skin is to be loved and cooking food is paying homage to my elders. She has taught me that Black women are everything.

Without knowing these stories, Carolyn would be a woman, a framed photograph, silenced. Nothing more than a mere memory, ceasing to exist.

In the beginning, there have been stories, fables and folktales told by civilizations, empires, townships and people. Many tales are overutilized: Cinderella and her glass slipper, Romeo’s passionate love for Juliet, the hare’s arrogance that led to his defeat. I want to know the stories that collect dust on dying tongues, that sit on the bottom shelf of a bookcase, that dance around in elders’ heads waiting for anyone who will lend an ear.

Experiencing the transgenerational legacy of storytelling has inspired me to pursue a career in investigative journalism. How do you become acquainted with someone you’ll never meet? You listen to their stories.

So when my mother whispers, “My mother would’ve loved you,” I reply saying, “She always has.”

My grandmother’s spirit is alive and will be for generations to come. If it had not been for storytelling, I would not be the woman I am today.
