DPPD'smissionenvisages • pre-service teacher training, includingteachingmethodologyand practice of prospective teachers; • teachers' continuingeducationandprofessionaldevelopmentthrough periodic training/developmentprogrammes, tailoredcourses for in-service teachingdegrees; • theoreticalandappliedresearch in educationsciences. The Department of Teacher Training of the University of Craiovaprovides programmes for the Bachelor's (level I) and Master's (level II): level I length is of 3 years and level II of 2 years. For graduates and postgraduates, level I and II are 1 year length each.

PRE-SERVICE TEACHER TRAINING • In compliance with the national curriculum, on the basis of the Minister Order; • A two-stage process: • Level I (in parallel with the Bachelor’s programme attendance for students enrolled in a specialisation)= 30 ECTS for students in a single specialisation, 35 ECTS for students in a double specialisation (major+minor) Upon successfully completing Level I, graduates holding a Bachelor’s degree have the right to become school-based teachers (primary and secondary education) • Level II (in parallel with the Master’s programme / Etudes approfondies attendance ) = 30 ECTS Upon successfully completing Level II, graduates have the right to become school-based teachers (high school and post-high school)

THE TRACHER TRAINING PROGRAMME-RELATED CURRICULUM HAS 3 COMPONENTS: • CORE CURRICULUM , • EXTENDED CURRICULUM • OPTIONAL CURRICULUM

CORE CURRICULUM = The CORE CURRICULUM comprises the subjects and teaching activities which are compulsory for the teaching career: 1. Basic teacher training subjects (compulsory): Psychology of education; Fundamentals of pedagogy; Curriculum theory and methodology; Teaching theory and methodology; Testing and evaluation theory and methodology; Class management; 2. Specialty subjects (compulsory): Didactics Computer-assisted teaching and learning Teaching practice in pre-university education

EXTENDED Curriculum It comprises subjects and activities that are compulsory for the successful completion of the Teacher training Level II programme. • Psycho-pedagogy of teenagers, young people and adults; • Educational programme design and management; • Didactics and field development (with reference to high school and post-high school); • Teaching practice in high school and post-high school.

OPTIONAL Curriculum • 2 optional packages (the option concerns 1 subject per package): Optional package1 • Communication in education • Counselling and orientation • Educational research methodology • Integrated education Optional package 2 • Sociology of education • School management • Education policies • Inter-cultural education

THE Department OF TEACHER TRAINING • The teacher training programme is developed and implemented by The Teacher Training Department (Romanian acronym: DPPD) in partnership with the faculties of the University of Craiova. • We are aware that our mission oftraining the 21st century teachers is ambitious, therefore, we need to join our efforts. We have partnerships with schools, universities, governmental and non-governmental organisations, as well as with other entities sharing our vision.

LIFELONG LEARNING ACTIVITIES FOR IN-SERVICE TEACHERS – TRAINING PROGRAMMES In what follows, we mention a few programmes: Teacher training for children with special educational needs (Romanian acronym: CESFORM) • Programme length: 92 hours; main objective: to change the teachers’ and community’s perception of children/students with special educational needs and to develop teachers’ ability to develop tailored curricula so as to secure differentiated and personalised instruction. Pre-school teacher training in a constructive way (Romanian acronym: PROCONSTRUCT) • Programme length: 92 hours; main objective: to improve access and widen participation of pre-school teachers in the Oltenia region to lifelong learning opportunities in the dynamic knowledge-based society.

Support of basic and applied research • Support of basic and applied research in Education Sciences, Sociology of education and Psychology of education through programmes, projectsand contract-based research, scientific events, as well as through the publication of research papers and books (course books, textbooks, handbooks, etc.) - as a strategic priority of the Department of Teacher Training (DPPD).

CDC offers continuing education (CE) for several self-study programs on immunization. These can be accessed in a variety of ways: web-based, video, and webinar.

Most CE from these programs is free and easy to access through the training and CE online system . If needed, assistance with obtaining CE is available.

Description:  HPV vaccination is cancer prevention. While most U.S. adolescents are starting the HPV vaccine series, less than half have finished the HPV vaccine series. Description: The Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program (PHBPP) was established in 1990 by CDC. Orientation and trainings have been provided to coordinators in the past in various formats and venues. This series will combine aspects of both training on the epidemiology of hepatitis B virus and orientation to the PHBHPP in a web-based format. It presents both practice-based and program oriented content on Perinatal Hepatitis B. It addresses an educational need of an importance audience for the prevention of perinatal hepatitis B transmission, the new PHBPP Coordinator. We deliver training through multiple platforms, including classroom, virtual, self-paced, instructor-led synchronous, asynchronous, and online learning strategies. You will spearhead D-TEC?s establishment as a world-class public safety training and education center.

Responsibilities*

  • Lead and manage all training and education strategy and initiatives for the Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) for consistency and tracking purposes
  • Manage D-TEC staff, including performance management, professional development, and appraising productivity and efficiency
  • Lead and facilitate the review and evaluation of training proposals and contracts for external training vendors and ensure that consultants perform as outlined in the contract
  • Manage division-wide training to ensure it is inclusive, accessible, and innovative, along with supporting the subject matter experts that facilitate training and education sessions
  • Lead the DPSS Training & Education Council (group of DPSS representatives) and collaborate with our team members, technical teams, subject matter experts, the DPSS Training & Education Council/Training & Education Coordinators, and other partners to identify training needs and strategies
  • Collaborate with department leadership to assess employee knowledge, skills and ability gaps to support employee and workforce development
  • Audit division training to ensure training accountability and proactive compliance with certification and licensing requirements
  • Ensure D-TEC's short and long-term workforce development strategies align with the DPSS mission, vision, and priorities
  • Direct training and education activities, including accounting for accessible space and materials, identifying skilled trainers, moderators, or facilitators, and coordinating logistics, attendance and promotional communications
  • Maintain advanced working knowledge of relevant applications, services, technologies, team-based productivity tools, adult learning principles, modern and future learning tools, and trends
  • Coordinate overarching workforce development strategies and administrative, fiscal, and operational tasks, including policy development and implementation and strategic planning
  • Directs the assessment and identification of resources and expertise needed to develop and coordinate instructional design materials according to priorities and goals
  • Develops partnerships through collaboration with DPSS leadership, university and external partners

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in training and development or a related field
  • Seven or more years of experience in a leadership role in training and development, including leading program design and evaluation
  • Direct experience integrating advanced learning platforms and technologies
  • Experience leading  in a complex, decentralized organization; safety and security or higher education experience is helpful
  • Experience managing in learning environments along with demonstrated facilitation skills and public speaking
  • Applied knowledge of Learning Management Systems and relevant training and education digital tools
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Skill and knowledge of current technology/applications, including Microsoft Suite and Google Workspace, with the ability to produce professional presentations and materials

After six intense preliminary rounds, twelve exceptional scholars have emerged from a pool of 65 talented candidates, earning their place as finalists in Georgia Tech's highly anticipated annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. On Friday, April 5, 2024, these finalists will hit the stage, harnessing their research expertise, to deliver compelling presentations in a three-minute format.

This year’s 3MT competition takes place on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. in the Atlantic Theater in the John Lewis Student Center. The entire Georgia Tech community is encouraged to attend the competition, which occurs as the finale of the 2024 Grad Student Appreciation Week. 3MT will also be streamed online and can be viewed at https://gatech.zoom.us/j/98696536715 .  Audience members and online viewers can vote for their favorite presenter to win the People’s Choice Award.  

Ph.D. winners can win up to $2,000 in research travel grants. The master's winner will receive a $1,000 research travel grant.   

Tech’s 3MT competition is coordinated by the Office of Graduate Education in partnership with the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), The Naugle Communications Center, and the Language Institute.

Measles Prevention and Control Webinar - April 3, 2024

The Washington Department of Health (DOH) will be hosting a webinar on Wednesday, April 3 from 12-1pm. The topics include a discussion of measles signs and symptoms, transmission, vaccine recommendations, measles epidemiology, and outbreak control guidelines. Continuing education credits will be available for nurses and medical assistants. The webinar will be recorded and available for viewing after the live event. The webinar is designed for health care providers, local public health partners, and anyone wishing to learn more about this topic.
