'புலி முருகன், குரூப்' உள்ளிட்ட மலையாள டப்பிங் படங்களுக்கு தமிழில் வசனம் எழுதிய ஆர்.பி.பாலா இப்படத்தை இயக்கியிருக்கிறார். முழு படமும் ஒரு அபார்ட்மென்ட் வீட்டுக்குள்ளேயே நகர்கிறது. ஒரு நாடகத்தைப் பார்ப்பது போன்ற உணர்வுதான் வருகிறதே தவிர, படத்தைப் பார்க்கிறோம் என்ற உணர்வு ஏற்படவில்லை.

பணக்கார வீட்டுப் பெண் வாணி போஜன். அவரது அப்பா ராதாரவி சொல்லி பரத்தை சந்தித்து திருமணம் பற்றி பேச வருகிறார். பிசினஸ் ஆரம்பித்து தோற்றுப் போனவர் பரத். அப்பா திடீரென வேண்டாமென்று சொல்லியும் பரத்தைத் திருமணம் செய்து கொள்கிறார் வாணி. ஆனால், இருவரது திருமண வாழ்க்கையும் மகிழ்ச்சியாக இல்லை. தாய்மை அடைந்த செய்தியை மருத்துவமனையில் உறுதி செய்துவிட்டு வீட்டிற்க வரும் வாணியிடம் சண்டை போட்டு அவரைக் கொன்றும் விடுகிறார் பரத். திடீரென காலிங் பெல் அடிக்க, வாணியின் உடலை பாத்ரூமில் மறைத்து வைக்கிறார். பரத்தின் நெருங்கிய நண்பர் விவேக் பிரசன்னா வீட்டிற்குள் வர, மனைவியைக் கொன்ற நிலையில் அடுத்து என்ன செய்வது என யோசிக்கிறார் பரத். இதன் பின் என்ன நடக்கிறது என்பதுதான் படத்தின் மீதிக் கதை. படம் முழுவதும் வெறுப்பைக் காட்டிக் கொண்டிருக்கும் ஒரு கதாபாத்திரத்தில் பரத். பிசினஸில் தோல்வியடைந்த, வேறு எதையும் சரியாக முயற்சிக்காத பொறுப்பில்லாத ஒரு கணவர். படத்தில் அவர் நடித்ததை விட குடித்ததுதான் அதிகமாக இருக்கும். அந்த 'சரக்கு' பாட்டில் குடிக்கக் குடிக்கக் குறையாமல் இருக்கிறது. அப்படி ஒரு 'சரக்கு' கிடைத்தால் குடிமகன்களுக்கு செலவு குறையும். வாணி போஜனுக்கு ஆரம்பத்தில் ஓரிரு காட்சிகள், அதோடு கிளைமாக்சில் மட்டும். மற்ற நேரங்களில் பாத்ரூமில் பிணமாக சுருண்டு கிடக்கிறார். பரத்தின் நெருங்கிய நண்பராக விவேக் பிரசன்னா. அவரது மனைவியை அவரது நண்பன் ஒருவரே கள்ளக் காதல் புரிகிறார் என பரத் வீட்டில் வந்து புலம்பிக் கொண்டு கூட சேர்ந்து குடிக்கிறார். வேறொருவரின் மனைவியான தனது முன்னாள் காதலியை அழைத்துக் கொண்டு பரத் வீட்டிற்கு வருகிறார் டேனி அனி போப். ஒரு கட்டத்தில் அது வீடா இல்லை 'லோக்கல்' லாட்ஜா என யோசிக்க வைக்கிறது. ஒரே வீட்டை எப்படியாவது விதவிதமான கோணங்களில் காட்ட வேண்டும் என நிறையவே முயன்றிருக்கிறார் ஒளிப்பதிவாளர் முத்தையா. ரோனி ரபேல் பின்னணி இசையும் படத்தைக் காப்பாற்ற முயற்சிக்கவில்லை. ஒரு படம் என்றால் அதில் ஏதாவது ஒரு விஷயமாவது ரசிக்கும்படி இருந்தால் ரசிகர்களால் கொஞ்சமாவது ரசிக்கப்படும். அப்படி எவ்வளவு தேடினாலும் இந்தப் படத்தில் எதுவும் கிடைக்கவில்லை. 'காதல்' என்ற படத்தின் மூலம் ரசிகர்களின் மனதில் ஒரு இடத்தைப் பிடித்த பரத்தின் 50வது படம் இந்த 'லவ்'. அப்போது வந்த 'காதல்' கவர்ந்தது, இப்போது வந்த இந்த 'லவ்' கசக்கிறது. லவ் - அவ்வ்வ்வ்வ்வ்…

Love Movie Review: Overcooked plot, insipid execution brings down a film with promise

At times, the ability to even think of treacherous thoughts can be extremely menacing. Especially, in times of distress and at the height of our rage, thoughts hold the power to fiddle with complex human emotions. The recently released Love , which marks Bharath's 50th film, reflects on these aspects by taking a deep dive into a strained relationship of a married couple, their ego clashes, and, of course, the love that kept them together.

It's love at first meeting for Bharath's Ajay and Vani Bhojan's Divya in Love . Ajay is a struggling entrepreneur. Divya hails from a well-to-do family and looks after her father's (Radha Ravi) business, although disinterestedly. Even though Divya's father expresses his unwillingness in their match, she agrees to go ahead and marry Ajay. There's also a romantic song that moves the story forward. One year after their marriage, Divya gets pregnant. When she tries to contact Ajay, he does not respond. The story shifts to his perspective. Ajay is an alcoholic. The moment Divya enters the house, they indulge in a violent physical fight. The plates, glass jars, photo frames and whatnot, Divya breaks it all. She also pushes him away. When the situation escalates, Ajay rams Divya into the photo frame on the wall, resulting in her instant death. The rest of the story unfolds with Ajay figuring out how to dispose of the body, without raising any suspicions, especially in the minds of his two friends (Vivek and Daniel) who make an unexpected visit to his house. 

Love , the Tamil remake of the Malayalam film of the same name starring Shine Tom Chako and Rajisha Vijayan, has predominantly retained the essence of the story, and even recreated most of the scenes. However, the remake does not offer the impact of the original. The Tamil adaptation chooses to take the expository route by elaborating on some riveting suspense factors. Instead of retaining an open-ending like the Malayalam original, Love goes on to give reasons for the flow of events throughout that takes the zing away. Such creative decisions, presumably to cater to a different set of audiences' sensibilities and tastes, seems forced and pull down the potential of the film from becoming a terrific suspense thriller.

Unlike the original, the Tamil outing takes its time to establish how the relationship between Ajay and Divya blossomed before it became worse. This idea adds more layers to the world building. Bharath delivers a fair performance as a vulnerable and frustrated Ajay, but there is something missing. Vani Bhojan sports a convincing performance as a helpless and agitated Divya. Although there's an argument between the couple before escalating to a physical tiff in the third act that gives an idea as to what might have actually happened, the narrative till then does keep us engaged and agitated in equal amounts. 

The first half of the film revolves only around Ajay panicking and running around the house, checking the dead body inside the bathroom once in a while, and advising his friends--Vivek's character, who wants to die because his wife is cheating on him and Daniel's character, who is cheating his wife and wants to escape from the situation. There is also a set-up of the doorbell ringing, and every time Ajay opens the door, a new character is introduced in the play. This format gets a little repetitive after a point. Even those conversations between Ajay and his friends about relationships, infidelity, and the fragile male ego gets tedious because of the lack of a solid punch. The oscillation between being engaged, and agitated continues through other aspects of the film too. Although we understand Ajay’s presumption of reality and imagination is blurred, the sluggish pacing fails to pull us into his world and empathise with the characters.

To give credit where it is due, a couple of well-executed twists certainly boost this passable film. Cinematographer PG Muthiah's stunning frames, reverberating shots, especially the action sequences, combined with Ronnie Raphael's momentum-amping music, try their best to uplift some underwhelming moments.

Perhaps, Love could have matched up with the impact that the original created, if only it stayed true to the original's narrative, importantly, in the second half and embraced the beauty that lies in self-interpretations and observations instead of overcooking the plot to simplify it for a new audience.

Love review: Director RP Bala’s thriller is far-fetched from reality and simply falls flat

This Tamil remake of a Malayalam film with the same name is neither as emphatic nor convincing as its original with regard to domestic violence.

Director RP Bala’s Love , which happens to be the Tamil remake of a Malayalam film with the same name, begins on a promising note only to disappoint us in the end.

The film, supposed to be a thriller, offers no thrills whatsoever and struggles to retain your attention.

RP Bala’s Love is a faithful reproduction of the Malayalam version which featured Rajisha Vijayan and Shine Tom Chacko in the lead.

However, the difference between both versions lies in the intensity they offer.

Divya (Vani Bhojan) meets Ajay (Bharath), a prospective alliance, and chooses to wed him despite her father’s warning that he might not be an ideal match since he lost everything in business.  

The fact that Ajay tells Divya that they need to postpone the decision to have a child till the time he sets things right does not help matters.

A year or two into the marriage, the relationship between the couple sours. They are constantly at loggerheads.

One day, Divya finds out that she is in the initial stages of pregnancy. She calls her husband from the clinic but does not get a response. On returning home, she finds soiled plates lying outside the sink and Ajay drinking and playing video games. She loses her cool and confronts him.

Tempers flare up on both sides and one thing leads to another. The verbal altercation between Divya and Ajay soon turns physical, resulting in Ajay smashing Divya’s head against a piece of glass.

She dies and Ajay, who is in a drunken stupor, is stunned at the sudden unexpected development. He drags her body to the bathroom and begins to wonder what to do next.

Not upto the mark.

The Tamil version of Love is neither as emphatic nor as convincing as its Malayalam counterpart when it comes to highlighting the issue of domestic violence.

While Love ‘s motive in looking to highlight the issue of domestic violence is laudable, the fact that the story is presented from a feminist’s point of view cannot be denied.

As a result, all the significant male characters in the movie are made to come across as monsters.

For instance, the three main male characters in the film.

Ajay (played by Bharath) is a loser, a cheat, and a man with a violent temper. However, his wife Divya is an accomplished, talented individual who, despite being the daughter of an exceptionally rich businessman, does not want to run her dad’s concern but to prove herself.

That’s not all. Despite Divya being a more accomplished person than Ajay and the fact that she could have got a match with a much better social standing than Ajay, she agrees to marry him.

It’s almost like she takes pity on him and does him a favour by marrying him.

Next, take a look at Vivek Prasanna’s character. He appears as a dear friend of the protagonist Ajay in the film and dons a character that is again portrayed as a loser in business.

His character wants to commit suicide; he drinks, pukes, and acts irresponsibly. What’s more, he suspects his wife of having an affair and intends to kill the man with whom he thinks she is having an affair.

The third character played by Daniel Pope, is again shown as a person being disloyal to his wife, who, on the other hand, is shown as a responsible person.  

That Vivek Prasanna and Daniel Pope’s characters go on to become imaginary characters at a later point in the film is another issue.

There seems to be a sly attempt at demonising all men in the film Love .

For instance, this dialogue that Vivek Prasanna utters. He justifies Ajay’s killing of his wife saying, “Is there a man who does not want to kill his wife?”

This is nothing but a sad attempt to generalise and paint all men as potential wife-beaters waiting for an opportunity to indulge in domestic violence.

Further, Love’s story is hard to relate to and far-fetched from reality. The flick also leaves several questions unanswered and makes the message the film is looking to send across unclear.

Well, these are some of the reasons why you don’t find Love interesting and in a way, feel relieved when it ends.

Love Movie Review in Tamil: ஆர்.பி.பிலிம்ஸ் சார்பில் ஆர்.பி.பாலா தயாரித்து இயக்கியுள்ள படம் லவ். இந்தப் படத்தில் பரத் வாணி போஜன் விவேக் பிரசன்னா பிக் பாஸ் டானி ராதாரவி உள்ளிட்ட பலரும் நடித்துள்ளனர். பிஜி முத்தையா ஒளிப்பதிவு செய்துள்ள இந்த படத்திற்கு ரோனி ரபேல் இசையமைத்துள்ளார். ஏற்கனவே இந்த படத்தின் டீசர் ட்ரெய்லர் இரண்டும் பெரும் வரவேற்பு பெற்ற நிலையில் படம் ஜூலை 28ஆம் தேதி வெளியாக உள்ளது அதன் விமர்சனத்தை இங்கு காணலாம். 

படத்தின் கதை 

தம்பதிகளான பரத் - வாணிபோஜன் இடையே ஒரு நிகழ்வில் வாக்குவாதம் முற்றி கைகலப்பு ஆகிறது. இதில் பரத்தின் கோபத்தினால் வாணிபோஜன் கொல்லப்படுகிறார். அவரது உடல் பாத்ரூமில் மறைத்து வைக்கப்படுகிறது. இதனைத் தொடர்ந்து பரத் தற்கொலைக்கு முயற்சிக்கிறார். 

அப்போது அந்த வீட்டுக்குள் மனைவியுடன் ஏற்பட்ட சண்டையின் காரணமாக குழப்பத்தில் இருக்கும் நண்பர் விவேக் பிரசன்னா வருகிறார். அடுத்த சிறிது நேரத்தில் மனைவிக்கு தெரியாமல் இன்னொரு பெண்ணுடன் உறவில் இருக்கும் பிக்பாஸ் டேனியும் வருகிறார். நடுவே வாணிபோஜனின் அப்பா ராதாரவியும் வந்து செல்கிறார். ஒரு சந்தர்ப்பத்தில் விவேக் பிரசன்னா, டேனி இருவருக்கும் உண்மை தெரிய வருகிறது.உடலை எப்படி அப்புறப்படுத்துவது என யோசிக்கிறார்கள். அப்போது மீண்டும் கதவின் பெல் அடிக்கப்படுகிறது. திறந்து பார்த்தால் அங்கு வாணி போஜன் நிற்கிறார். 

அதேசமயம் விவேக் பிரசன்னா, டேனி இருவரும் காணாமல் போகிறார்கள். அப்படி என்றால் கொலை செய்யப்பட்டது யார்? .. நண்பர்கள் இருவரும் காணாமல் போக என்ன காரணம்.. இவற்றுக்கெல்லாம் என்ன தான் முடிவு  என்பதை லவ் படம் விளக்குகிறது.

நடிப்பு எப்படி? 

பரத் உடல் எடையை கூட்டி, அழகாக காட்சியளிக்கிறார். ஆனால் மனைவியை கொலை செய்த பயம் முகத்தில் இல்லாவிட்டாலும், உணர்வுகளிலாவது இருக்க வேண்டும். ஆனால் அப்படி எதுவும் இல்லாதது மைனஸாக உள்ளது. இவரும் வாணிபோஜனும் அசல் கணவன் - மனைவி சண்டையை கண் முன்னால் நிறுத்துகிறார்கள். அதிலும் வாணிபோஜன் இறந்துப் போன நிமிடத்திலும் அழகான கண் சிமிட்டா பொம்மையாக காட்சியளிக்கிறார். ஒரு காட்சியில் வந்தாலும் பாசமிகு தந்தையாக ராதாரவி கேரக்டர் சிறப்பு. விவேக் பிரசன்னா, டேனி இருவரும் கொடுத்த கேரக்டருக்கு ஓரளவு நியாயம் சேர்த்துள்ளார்கள். 

படம் பார்க்கலாமா எப்படி? 

மலையாளத்தில் 2020 ஆம் ஆண்டு வெளியான லவ் படத்தின் ரீமேக் தான் இப்படமாகும். படத்தின் மையக்கரு ஒரு பிரச்சினையை பற்றி பேசினாலும் தம்பதியினர் இடையே இருக்கும் ஈகோ பிரச்சினையை சிறப்பாக படமாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. குடும்பத்தில் நடக்கும் வன்முறை சம்பவங்கள் தொடங்கி, வீட்டுக்கு வீடு பிரச்சினை எப்படி மாறுகிறது மாறுகிறது என சொன்ன விதம் கவனிக்க வைக்கிறது. 

மேலும் மனைவியுடன் சண்டை ஏற்பட்டு கொலை வரை சென்ற பின்பு, தன் நண்பர்கள் இருவரின் குடும்ப பிரச்சினைகளுக்கு பரத் அட்வைஸ் பண்ணுவது நம்மை சுற்றி இருக்கும் “வீட்டில் புலி..வெளியே பசு” கேரக்டர்களை நியாபகப்படுத்துகிறது. தனக்கு பிரச்சினை ஏற்படும்போது பெண்களை குறை கூறுவது, பிரச்சினைக்கு வன்முறை தீர்வு தான் என நினைக்க வைப்பது என காட்சிகளை வைத்து  படம் முழுக்க வைத்துள்ளார்கள். யோசித்து பார்த்தால் இவை எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் “ஈகோ” தான் முழு பிரச்சினையாக வந்து நிற்கும். கதையில் இருக்கும் அழுத்தம் காட்சிகளில் மிஸ்ஸிங். 

ஆனால் முதல் அரைமணி நேரம் ஒரு விறுவிறுப்பை ஏற்படுத்தி, அதனை தொடர்ச்சியாக கொண்டு செல்லாமல் சொதப்பியுள்ளார்கள். இதேபோல் பிற்பாதியில் வாணி போஜன் மீண்டும் வரும்போது கதை சூடுபிடிக்கும் என எதிர்பார்த்தால் கடைசியில் இதுக்கெல்லாம் என்ன காரணம் என எளிதாக எண்ட் கார்டு போடுவது ஏமாற்றத்தை ஏற்படுத்துகிறது. 

ஆக மொத்தத்தில் படத்தின் பெயர் தான் லவ்.. ஆனால் உள்ளே ரணகளம்...!

Love (Tamil) Movie Review

Bharath and vani bhojan make a good impression in this confusing yet decent tale. down goes our love (tamil) movie review..

Bharath’s landmark 50th film Love has hit the screens today, and it is an official remake of the Malayalam film of the same name. Director RP Bala, known for his dialogue-writing works, has presented the film as a minimalistic thriller based on the relationship between husband and wife.

Love completely talks about the relationship between the characters of Bharath and Vani Bhojan, and how it turns from sweet to sour over a couple of years. The film starts off by showcasing their relationship in a nice and sweet way, but then showcases how it turns out to be problematic. The first half of the film moves along in a neat manner, and the second half is where all the twists in the film are revealed. Director RP Bala has tried to showcase the incidents that take place between a husband and wife by revealing their problems one by one, but he could have dived deeper into their perspectives to make the film more relatable to audiences. On the other hand, the abundance of turns in the second half makes the film a bit tough to follow.

Bharath delivers a neat performance in the film, and carries off the emotional sequences quite well. Vani Bhojan gives the film a superb performance, and creates good impact in her scenes. The supporting actors in Vivek Prasanna and Daniel Pope have also contributed well.

Technically, Love is quite good including the music and cinematography which is on par with its regard.

On the whole, Love turns out to be an engaging romantic drama which is not easy to get through but still works to its intent.

Verdict: A middling mystery drama led by good performances.

Kallathanam

Starring Yugan, Sapna in the lead roles, Kallathanam is a romantic love drama that had its theatrical release on December 18, 2020. Directed by VC Dhandapani. The film is available online on Amazon Prime Video.

Starring R Madhavan, Shraddha Srinath, Padmavati Rao, Alexander Babu, Guru among others in key roles, Maara had a direct OTT release on Amazon Prime Video on January 8, 2021.

Kadathal Kaaran

  Bharat and Vani Bhojan like each other and get married. After a year of leading a happy family life, things don’t go well between the couple.

  Bharat loses a lot of money in his business. Initially, Vani Bhojan tolerates the behvaiour of Bharath, but one day Bharat kills her in a fit of rage during an argument.

  What does Bharat doe after that forms the rest of the story

  Directed by R P Bala, though the movie speaks about an important issue, it also focuses on the ego clash between married couples.

  Apart from speaking about domestic violence, the movie has also portrayed about how each hosuehold has its own problems.

  The first half of the movie begins in an interesting manner and slowly loses steam as the film progresses.

  Bharat has done complete justice to his character. He has understood the role and has delivered a memorable performance.

  Vani Bhojan gets a decent role and shines in the scree space that she gets.

  The chemistry between the lead pair is one of the biggest strengths of the movie.

  Rest of the cast including Radha Ravi, Vivek Prasanna and Dannie have all done their part well.

  With most of the movie taking place inside a house, P G Muthaiyah’s camera has captured the proceedings in an interesting manner.

  Ronnie Raphael’s background score gels well with the them of the movie.
