A&E Biography: WWE Legends returns in July, list of subjects to be covered

A&E’s Biography: WWE Legends will be returning in July with the network revealing the subjects that will be covered.

After a series of Biography episodes on past WWE talent aired in 2021, A&E and WWE announced an expanded partnership this past March.

The expanded multi-year agreement would include new episodes of ‘Biography’ and ‘Most Wanted Treasures’, as well as a new series called ‘WWE Rivals’.

The next set of ‘Biography’ editions will kick off on Sunday, July 10 th with an episode focusing on The Undertaker. That will be followed by the first episode of ‘WWE Rivals’ and an after-show called ‘WWE Smack Talk’.

The two series will air back-to-back on Sunday nights.

Additional episodes of ‘Biography’ will include ones dedicated to Kurt Angle, Lex Luger, Edge, Bill Goldberg, D-Generation X, The Bella Twins, Rey Mysterio, and WrestleMania 1.

Cody Rhodes announced upon his return to WWE that he would serve as an executive producer for an episode of ‘Biography’ covering his father but was not listed in the reel that A&E released on Wednesday.

Point Pleasant native Diamond Dallas Page's story coming to A&E Biography

Diamond Dallas Page has had a remarkable career.

And on Sunday night, his story will be told.

Better known as DDP, the Point Plesant Beach native has been a star professional wrestler and on Sunday, A&E Network will present Biography: WWE Legends, Diamond Dallas Page.

"Overcoming obstacles has been a theme throughout Diamond Dallas Page's life and he was always doubted to succeed; through hard work, positive thinking and determination, DDP proved the naysayers wrong," is how the network describes the show.

Page's story starts at the Jersey Shore, where he played basketball for Point Pleasant High School. 

After playing college basketball at Coastal Carolina, he made his way into the world of professional wrestling, starting with the AWA before moving on to WCW, where he would win the promotion's world championship.

He later went to WWE, as well as TNA and AEW, and became a top star everywhere he went.

During his wrestling career, he went on to develop DDP Yoga, a yoga routine for athletes and men looking to get in shape.

“I’m the guy who wouldn’t be caught dead doing yoga the first 42 years of my life,” Page said in a 2018 story in the Asbury Park Press. “But I didn’t start wrestling until I was 35. My career took off when I was 40, which was in ’96. (Then in) ’97, ’98 I was on top of the world.”

The DDP biography is part of A&E's Sunday night WWE lineup.

Before Biography, the hour-long program that begins at 9 p.m., will be WWE Rivals, a show telling the story of the history between John Cena and Randy Orton.

That’s just one of the many colorful declarations and insightful revelations peppered throughout Biography: Bobby Brown . At times spicy, poignant and fun — but never pulling any punches — the documentary premieres across two nights on A&E, starting Memorial Day (Monday and Tuesday, 8 p.m. ET/PT).

Seemingly nothing was left on the cutting-room floor as Bobby Brown relates how he rocketed his way out of the housing projects of Roxbury, Mass., into superstardom — first as a member of R&B/pop boy group New Edition and later as a magnetizing solo act. Along the way, he recounts his “bad boy” reputation, the origin of his signature “Gumby” haircut and love life interludes.

Married 10 years as of June 18, Brown and Etheredge-Brown are also starring in a new reality series for A&E, Bobby Brown: Every Little Step . Borrowing its title from his 1989 Billboard Hot 100 top five hit, the 12-episode series (premiering Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET/PT following night 2 of Biography ) revolves around the pair’s role-balancing as a married couple/parents and business partners. The latter includes Bobby Brown Foods featuring all-natural barbecue sauces and seasonings plus a new self-care line, Regenerate Wellness.

In advance of the two A&E premieres, Brown and Etheredge-Brown sat down with Billboard via Zoom to talk about Brown’s most difficult revelation in the documentary, thoughts on the upcoming Houston biographical film I Wanna Dance With Somebody, and why theirs won’t be a run-of-the mill reality show.

After 2017’s New Edition miniseries and your bio a year later, why did you feel the need to do this documentary?

Etheredge-Brown : We’d been asked multiple times to do a documentary, but it just felt forced then. Now it feels fitting for where our journey is and how Bobby’s doing.

Brown : I don’t think I was in the right space when we were asked before. But at this time in my life, it was very therapeutic for me to dig deep into my guts; going back to the traumas of my childhood. That’s the most of why we decided to do this now.

Etheredge-Brown : When we were looking at a home for the documentary, A&E didn’t have any prior notions of what they wanted Bobby to talk about. There are so many things about Bobby’s journey in which people had never really heard his voice. It was media or other people’s conversations and opinions on how he felt during various times in his life. So it was really important that we do this with a network that would be respectful of that.

In digging deep, Bobby, what was the hardest thing for you to reveal?

Brown : Well, probably the hardest was talking about the priest who molested me when I was around 9 years old. It’s the one thing that has been bothering me for many, many years that I kept deep in my soul. But I’m glad I was able to get it out and put it on the table.

Etheredge-Brown : I was very proud and encouraged that he was really doing the work. I could see how sharing those lifted something off of him; not feeling guilt about releasing. It’s always hard to relive the loss of the children or having to hear him speak about how he was treated when Whitney passed away. It was really a difficult time. Most people have no idea or could not even imagine what Bobby went through in trying to get to his daughter [Bobbi Kristina].

Beyond the alcohol, drugs and legal issues, would you have done anything else different in your life/career?

Brown : I don’t know about different. I just know that God put me here to experience many different things in my life. I’m just glad that he’s given me a second chance to be able to make up for the mistakes that I’ve made. I don’t regret having to go through those situations because I wouldn’t be the man that I am today if I didn’t go through those situations.

Etheredge-Brown : I would hope that he didn’t spend so much money back then. But I know he had fun doing it. [ Laughs along with Bobby ]

After all these years in the public eye, is there one question you’re tired of answering?

Brown : There’s really been nothing asked that bothers me because I’ve had such a front-page life. And now I’m glad to be able to tell my story.

Etheredge-Brown : Always hearing talk about Bobby and Whitney’s relationship … People like to shine a light on the negativity, but they didn’t always have a negative relationship. Their love was real and they had a beautiful child. There were wonderful times that people don’t really care about; they just want to hear about the bad times. That gets very redundant and it’s very hurtful.

Coming later this year is Sony Pictures’ Whitney biopic. Why are people still so fascinated by your relationship?

Brown : I truly hope that they let her rest and also let our relationship rest. I don’t know anything about the biopic that Clive [ music industry legend Davis, one of the film’s producers] is doing. But hopefully it won’t dive into our relationship. Hopefully it will be more about the music and not about her personal life.

Given the strong criticism that Being Bobby Brown received in 2005, what made you take the reality route again?

Etheredge-Brown : We had considered doing some type of show before this, but not necessarily having someone in the house watching us every day. We really want to highlight our work relationship, our family time and our businesses. So in that way, it’s quite different because you will see what we really do in our lives. And it turned out to be so much fun. However, we made sure that we set parameters to protect the children: If they didn’t want to work or be on camera, it wasn’t a must. You’re going to see a loving Black family with two parents living in the house with our children, which isn’t often depicted or shown. And we don’t have to be hooting and hollering at each other or doing anything crazy to have a great story to share. You’ll see a Black man who is kind, sensitive and a listener who’s working on himself. You’re going to see us go through finding tools to communicate better in our marriage and how to be better parents as we learn so much from our kids.

Brown : This is a new chapter in my life; totally different from the earlier series because of how I’m living these days. I think people will notice that difference, especially in my attitude about life.

After everything you’ve gone through, to what do you attribute your resilience and perseverance?

Brown : God. That’s who holds me down. My belief in the Almighty, prayers and my family are what keep me going. Hopefully, in watching the documentary, people will learn a lot of different things about how to deal with difficult situations and come out on the other side. I’m speaking from the heart. This [documentary] is my truth. I hope they will know that.

Paul Heyman directed Roman Reigns episode of Biography: WWE Legends

Paul Heyman was heavily involved in putting together A&E's upcoming Biography: WWE Legends episode on Roman Reigns.

The documentary will premiere on A&E at 9 p.m. Eastern time next Sunday (March 31). In advance of that, WWE announced today that Heyman both  directed the Biography episode and served as an executive producer.

WWE.com posted the following quote from Reigns:

I wanted the most authentic documentary in the history of #WWEonAE. The Wiseman was the only one who could do this story the justice it deserves. There's so much about me that I've never discussed in public before. This is the true story of Joe Anoa'i and Roman Reigns!

Heyman and Reigns have been paired together on WWE television since August 2020. Reigns recently said that being aligned with Heyman  is a "performance enhancer."

The Biography: WWE Legends episode is premiering less than a week before WrestleMania 40 begins. Heyman and Reigns are both set for big roles over WrestleMania weekend.

Heyman is being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on Friday, April 5. The next night, Heyman will accompany Reigns & The Rock as they take on Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins in the main event of WrestleMania 40 night one.

Reigns vs. Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship will then headline night two of WrestleMania 40.

This season of Biography: WWE Legends also included episodes on Randy Orton, Sgt. Slaughter, Scott Hall, Diamond Dallas Page, and "British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith.

A new episode of A&E’s new docuseries “Secrets of the Hells Angels” premieres Sunday, April 21 at 10 p.m. The show chronicles the history of the world’s most notorious biker club.

Each hour-long episode will provide insight from five former chapter presidents of Hells Angels, including Charles “PeeWee” Goldsmith, Thomas Eriksen, Pat Matter, Matt Zanoskar, and George Christie. Viewers will hear interviews of first-hand accounts from law enforcement officers, victims and undercover agents.

An Oregon Mom and Her 6-Year-Old Twins Were Found Brutally Murdered — But Who Wanted Them Dead?

A new episode of A&E’s 'Secrets of Hells Angels' takes viewers on a detective’s 18-year quest to find their killers

What gained the detective’s attention about the confidential informant’s account of how an Oregon mother and her 6-year-old twins were killed was one small detail: One of the girls was clutching a toy from a Cracker Jack box when she was shot in the head.

The killings occurred on Aug. 7, 1977. For years, Detective Sergeant Mike Graham had been looking for the people responsible for the execution-style murders of Margo Compton, 24, and her twin daughters, Sylvia and Sandra, as well as her boyfriend’s 19-year-old son, Gary Seslar.

A new episode of the eight-part series Secrets of the Hells Angels follows the detective’s 18-year journey to uncover the mysterious killers responsible for the four deaths and airs Sunday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on A&E. (Watch an exclusive clip below.)

“I had withheld a little bit of evidence from the public,” Graham says of the Cracker Jack toy detail in the upcoming episode of Secrets of the Hells Angels , adding: “And Michael [Thompson] knew it. That's when I knew that Michael was telling me the truth.”

Graham was referring to “Iron Mike” Thompson, then a leader of the Aryan Brotherhood prison gang, who met with the detective in 1984.

At the time, the White supremacist gang ran methamphetamine sales inside California prisons, while the Hells Angels ran the market on the streets. Often, incarcerated bikers joined the prison gang.

It was behind bars where, Odis “Buck” Garrett, a major meth supplier in prison, had told Thompson the story of the family’s infamous murders — and Thompson started sharing those secrets with the detective.

Recalling their early meetings, Thompson tells A&E that Graham was “very direct” and uninterested in cutting him a deal in exchange for testimony.

“‘Look, I don't really care about you, but I have a passion and my passion is to come to terms with the execution of these two little girls and Margo Compton,” Thompson recalls Graham saying. “And I said, ‘Well, we share that.’”

While the two men were incarcerated at Folsom State Penitentiary in the late 1970s, Thompson had declined Garrett's business proposal, saying he was uninterested in working with child killers. (Rumors had spread that Garrett was responsible for killing the young twins.)

Eventually, Garrett — a leader of the Hells Angels Vallejo chapter — told him that while he ordered the slayings, the man who had pulled the trigger was Robert G. “Bugeye” McClure, a Hells Angels "hang-around," meaning someone who spends time with group members but isn't yet part of the organization.

Thompson reported back to the authorities.

That was the “huge break in the case” that the detective had been looking for — one that connected the murders to the Hells Angeles, Graham tells A&E in the hour-long episode which includes first-ever interviews with family members and eyewitnesses in the case.

Compton, a young mother of rural Gaston, Ore., had previously testified against several Hells Angels members at a prostitution trial in San Francisco, making her the target of retaliation, The New York Times later reported from McClure’s 1994 murder trial.

Following his conviction in the prostitution case, Garrett had ordered McClure to kill Compton and her family members, The Times reported from the courtroom.

At the time, Judge Jon B. Lund called the murder case one of the “most egregious” ones he had ever come across, per The Times , telling McClure that he had been “heartless and coldblooded” to kill “four innocent people.”

The July 1994 trial included testimony from more than 75 witnesses, per The Times , which noted that many of the Hells Angels and Aryan Brotherhood members entered the courtroom shackled in leg irons and waist chains as well as handcuffs.

At the trial, one such prisoner said McClure boasted to him that he had forced Compton to watch as he first killed her daughters, adding that the little girls died clutching their teddy bears, per The Times . 

Convicted of their murders, McClure was sentenced to four consecutive life terms in prison.

A year later, Garrett was convicted of the four killings and received the same sentence.

Shelby murder case of Alec Blair to be featured on A&E series in May

SHELBY — A Shelby police detective remembers Alec Blair's casual attitude during an intense interview about a brutal murder.

"He was smiling the whole time, even when he was talking about the graphic elements of the crime," Adam Turner said. "It was like a walk in the park for him. I didn't see any remorse."

Blair, now 25, was sentenced in January 2021 to 45 years to life in prison for the stabbing death of his estranged wife, Gaberien Clevenger, 22.

Blair stabbed his wife of eight months 14 times and dumped her body in a field on Feb. 10, 2020.

His crime and the process of getting a confession will be featured on the A&E series " Interrogation Raw " on May 16.

A&E series takes viewers inside interrogation room

According to A&E's website, "Criminal cases can be won or lost in the interrogation room. Success can bring justice for the victims; failure can lead to the guilty person walking free. Turner recalled being contacted by the show's producers.

"They came last fall, I believe," he said. "Me and a couple of others from here that were involved gave interviews.

"They wanted a walk-through from beginning to end. They were interested in Alec's statements during the interview process."

Producers also talked to Shelby police Officer John Reed and Andrew Knee, a deputy with the Richland County Sheriff's Office.

Turner said he employed a "soft touch" with Blair.

"You know the old saying: You get more bees with honey than vinegar," he said.

In October 2020, Blair pleaded guilty to aggravated murder, three counts of murder, four counts of kidnapping, two counts of felonious assault, two counts of abduction and single counts of tampering with evidence and gross abuse of a corpse.

Less than a week before her death, Clevenger had been denied a protection order by a domestic relations court magistrate.

A friend of hers became concerned when she did not show up for work at a local restaurant.

Blair led authorities to Clevenger's body in field

Authorities have only Blair's word for what happened. He led them to a field on Bowman Street Road, near a cell tower in Jackson Township, where Clevenger's body was found.

"Had he not confessed, I'm sure that she would've been found eventually, but it would have been a while," Turner said. "He still was not giving us everything. We didn't know about the stabbing until we got out there."

Initially, Blair said he had beaten Clevenger and smothered her.

Blair had lured Clevenger into his vehicle with the promise they would go to the Richland County Courthouse about a divorce.

The stabbing happened in the driveway of Blair's home in the 900 block of Taylortown Road, east of Shelby.

Blair went inside his house to pick up his lunch before work. While inside, he also grabbed a knife. He told authorities he never considered calling 911.

After dumping her body, Blair went to his job. A ping on Clevenger's phone linked it to an area near Blair's place of employment.

"He led us to his car," Turner said, recalling seeing cleaning supplies and blood.

At the sentencing hearing, defense attorney Terry Hitchman read a letter from Blair.

"I wish it wasn't real," Blair wrote. "I have to deal with this every day for the rest of my life."

He claimed he tried to let go of Clevenger but could not.

"Every little thing reminded me of her, and it drove me crazy," Blair wrote.

Prosecutor Gary Bishop, who died in 2023 , had detailed the savagery of the crime, noting Blair almost severed Clevenger's head from her body.

"This was a simple case of rage brought on by petty jealousy," Bishop said.

Judge considered life without parole for sentence

Judge Phil Naumoff said he agonized over the sentence and whether to give Blair life in prison without the possibility of parole.

"This is hard, and I have to put my feelings aside," Naumoff said. "I have to temper my anger with what is just. I gave you what I feel is the just sentence in this matter based on the law."

In a phone call with the News Journal, Turner called the case "such a tragedy."

"She was a beautiful, young lady," the detective said of Clevenger. "She thought she had gotten away from the situation.

"He's just a monster."

Blair is an inmate at Madison Correctional Institution. He will be eligible for parole in December 2064.
