English Essay on “An Outing with The Family” complete Paragraph and Speech for School, College Students, essay for Class 8, 9, 10, 12 and Graduation Classes.

An Outing with The Family

It is always good to go outdoors. Free air and open sky are always welcome. Quite often one feels choked inside the house and cities. It is good to run away into the open air for a day when one has the time. Picnics were very common for families in olden days. But now even picnics are becoming rare and uncommon. Families just do not have time, money and mood to go away from their boring familiar surroundings. That indeed is one of the greatest ills of modern times.

A picnic is a delightful diversion. It takes you away from your dull daily routine. it produces a soothing effect and adds charm to life. Sometimes it is possible to plan and go out. When it is possible, one should avail of the opportunity.

We had one such opportunity last Sunday. Early in the morning we got ready to spend a day at the Okhla Canal Bank. My mom prepared special dishes and my sister helped in making other preparations. We took a thermos filled with tea and took along couple of carpets for spreading under the trees to make ourselves feel comfortable.

It was not easy to catch a bus from Connaught Place to Okhla Barrage. We made some enquiries but there was no bus available. We were told to get a bus for Lajpat Nagar and then get a bus for Okhla from there. So we boarded a bus for Lajpat Nagar. But at Lajpat Nagar we had to wait for an hour to get a bus for Okhla. But Okhla was worth all the trouble we had to take to go there.

It was a beautiful scene and weather was cooler here than the city. There were green trees and they provided nice shade to the picnickers. Some fishermen were busy catching fish. We also hired a boat and enjoyed boating for some time. We were indeed very happy to play the boat turn by turn. There were a lot of children playing with each other under the shady trees. There we took our lunch and lunch seemed specially tasty at Okhla. We felt that our lunch was not enough because everyone ate more than usual.

After lunch we all had a nap under the balmy shade of the trees. The children of the family played with children of other picnickers. Some old women read their holy books. In the afternoon there was a drizzle and even a few drops of rain were very much welcome at that season of the year. But the rain broke the magic web of our sleep. Our sweet dream came to an end.

Now it was getting evening. We took the evening tea which we had brought with us along with some snacks specially made for the trip. When it was getting dark we packed our things and set out for our home. We boarded a bus and returned home. It was really a nice and joyful outing.

essay on a picnic with family

Picnic with Family

Last summer our family went to a memorable picnic at a nearby water park. The day when we spoke for the first time about going to a picnic, the adrenaline rush has been started flowing within us. The flow of happiness amongst the family was at its peak while preparing for the picnic. Everybody was excited about this outdoor adventure. Finally, the day had arrived. We all left our home and soon were on our way to the picnic.  The car was full of chatters. Every family member was so excited about the picnic with the family. All of us were in a totally different form.

Picnic Spot

Finally, we reached our destination. The moment we reached the ticket window, the kids in the family started jumping with excitement. While we were purchasing the tickets, the kids started getting restless to wait. Then we entered for our awaiting adventure for the picnic with the family. As soon as we entered, the beauty of the place welcomed us with a cool breeze on our faces.

We put on the costumes and entered the pool. The coldness of the water was soothing one. Each splash brought a smile on everyone’s face. Everybody went back to their childhood. The youngest one in the picnic with family was 3.5-year-old, who had entered the pool for the first time. He was the happiest amongst all. After spending a considerate amount of time playing with water, we had to struggle a lot to take kids out from the pool.  What a memorable time it was during a picnic with the family.

Then we started heading towards the food zone. The fun in the pool has led to an empty stomach which was making a lot of funny noise. And the aroma of the delicious food which was coming from the food zone had aced our pace towards it.

The kids in the family started making a list of all the things that they wanted to eat. We ordered everyone’s favorite dish and sat waiting for the food to come. This waiting time was the most torturous one. And finally, our hot and tasty food came. We literally attacked it like the hungry animals. The next 30 minutes was complete silence. Everybody in the picnic with family was busy enjoying their own favorite delicacy. We finished eating and left for home.

Though the picnic with family was over, still it is alive in over memories. All the good time we spent together, a lot of beautiful pictures, will always be with us in our memories. We will soon plan our next picnic with family to rejoice our love, bonding, and happiness together.

250 Words Essay on Trip With Family

Introduction.

Family trips are a unique blend of adventure, bonding, and learning. They offer an opportunity to step away from the daily grind, explore new horizons, and create lifelong memories. The essence of these trips is not merely sightseeing but the quality time spent together, strengthening familial bonds.

Significance of Family Trips

Family trips serve as a platform to foster deeper connections. The shared experiences, from planning the journey to overcoming travel mishaps, contribute to building trust and understanding. They also provide an avenue for parents to impart valuable life lessons to their children in a practical, engaging setting.

Learning and Growth

Traveling exposes one to diverse cultures, traditions, and lifestyles. It is a form of experiential learning that broadens perspectives and promotes tolerance. For young adults, these experiences can be transformative, shaping their worldview and encouraging personal growth.

Importance of Unplugging

In the digital age, family trips provide a much-needed respite from screen time. They allow us to reconnect with nature and our loved ones, fostering mindfulness and gratitude. The act of unplugging can also boost mental health, reducing stress and promoting overall well-being.

In conclusion, trips with family are not just about recreation, but they are a means of nurturing relationships, promoting learning, and encouraging self-growth. They remind us of the joy in simple moments and the value of disconnecting from our fast-paced lives. As college students, we should cherish these trips as they offer valuable life experiences that textbooks cannot provide.

500 Words Essay on Trip With Family

The unforgettable allure of family trips.

Family trips are a quintessential part of one’s life, offering a break from the humdrum of everyday routines and a chance to create lasting memories. They serve as a platform for strengthening familial bonds, learning about diverse cultures, and experiencing personal growth.

The Essence of Togetherness

An essential aspect of family trips is the sense of togetherness they foster. The shared experiences, whether it’s navigating through unfamiliar terrain or indulging in local cuisine, create a collective narrative that strengthens familial ties. The togetherness experienced on these trips is not merely physical proximity; it is an emotional closeness that transcends the limitations of everyday life.

Learning through Travel

Family trips are also an invaluable educational tool, providing a hands-on approach to learning that is often more impactful than traditional classroom settings. They offer exposure to different cultures, languages, and historical landmarks, sparking curiosity and fostering a deeper understanding of the world. This exposure enhances cultural sensitivity, making us more open-minded and tolerant, qualities that are invaluable in today’s globalized society.

Personal Growth and Development

The experiences encountered during family trips contribute significantly to personal growth and development. They instill a sense of responsibility, as everyone has a role to play, be it planning the itinerary, managing finances, or ensuring everyone’s safety. These trips also teach adaptability, as they often involve unforeseen circumstances that require quick thinking and problem-solving.

Building Lasting Memories

Perhaps the most cherished aspect of family trips is the memories they create. The shared laughter, the awe-inspiring sights, the unplanned detours, and even the occasional disagreements, all contribute to a tapestry of memories that are fondly remembered and talked about for years. These experiences, captured in photographs or simply etched in our minds, become an integral part of our family’s narrative.

The Healing Effect of Family Trips

In the hustle and bustle of modern life, stress and burnout have become commonplace. Family trips offer a respite from this, serving as a therapeutic escape. The change of environment, the relaxation, and the joy of exploration can rejuvenate the mind and body. Moreover, the shared experiences and strengthened bonds can help mitigate feelings of loneliness or alienation, contributing to improved mental health.

In conclusion, family trips are more than just a leisure activity; they are a vital part of our lives that offer numerous benefits. They foster togetherness, serve as an educational tool, contribute to personal growth, create lasting memories, and offer therapeutic benefits. As we navigate through the journey of life, these trips serve as beautiful interludes that enrich our existence, making them truly unforgettable.

What Topics Should I Write About for My Family Essay?

Choosing the right topic is essential. Here are some suggestions:

Writing a Family Tree Dive into your roots! A family tree can be more than names and dates; it can narrate stories of ancestors, their challenges, achievements, and legacies. For instance, "When I looked into our family tree, I discovered that my great-grandfather was a sailor who traveled the world and had countless tales of adventures, some of which have become legendary bedtime stories in our family."

Describing My Family in My Essay Discuss each family member in detail. "My sister, with her fiery red hair and matching temper, is the exact opposite of my calm and analytical brother. Yet, when they come together, they create the most amazing music, with him on the piano and her singing."

Writing About a Personal Memory Share a poignant memory. "I remember the time when our cat, Whiskers, went missing. The entire family turned detectives overnight, searching for clues, putting up posters, and even setting up a 'cat trap' with her favorite treats. The adventure ended with Whiskers found sleeping peacefully in the neighbor's shed, unaware of the chaos she had caused."

Dos and Don’ts When Writing a Family Stories Essay

  • Be authentic.
  • Use vivid descriptions and dialogues.
  • Respect privacy; ask permission if sharing personal details.
  • Avoid making generalizations.
  • Refrain from being overly negative or critical.
  • Don't plagiarize; every family's story is unique.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a good hook for an essay on my family? As Tolstoy once said, 'All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.' Our family, though, has found its unique shade of happiness.
  • What should I include in an essay about me and my family? Descriptions of family members, memories, traditions, challenges, and lessons.
  • How should I start an essay all about my family? Every time I think of the word 'home,' an image of our old cottage, Sunday dinners, and loud family debates comes to mind.
  • How long should my essay about my family be? Length depends on the requirement; academic essays typically range from 500-1000 words, while personal essays can vary.
  • How do I make my family essay engaging? Incorporate stories, memories, and emotions.

Read Family Picnic Essay on Vedantu

A picnic is a kind of excursion that is arranged with friends and families in the scenic outdoors. Everyone gets together in a place, ideally a park or resort with a lot of open space, and cook meals and eat lunch together, play games, and spend a whole day making merry and memories. In tropical countries like India, families generally plan exciting picnics during winter holidays because, during that time, the weather remains largely pleasant. These picnics though apparently mere get-togethers have immense significance in our life. They allow us to take a break from our busy routine and spend time with our family which is very important for our mental and emotional well-being. In this essay, I shall talk about a family picnic that was probably one of the best days of my life.

Picnic Day With My Family

Last spring our whole family decided to go to a nearby park for a fun outing and a picnic at the same time. The day before the picnic we could no longer hold our excitement. We spent the entire day planning what we will do and what we will eat. Thinking about all the fun we were going to have made my heart flutter.

The next day after packing our things we left our home at 8 am. The picnic spot was about 2 hours away from our home. We had packed delicious food prepared by my mother. On our way to the picnic spot, we played “antakshari” in the car. I could not wait to reach the spot.

Fun At The Picnic Spot

Finally at 10.30 am we reached the picnic spot. It was a beautiful land on the banks of a river. There was a large area of a green field with a lot of bushes and trees scattered here and there. The river and sky met at the horizon. There was a continuous flow of cool breeze blowing from the river to the banks. It was a mesmerizing sight to behold.

Me and my siblings, we started playing games with the adults including my mother, father, uncle and aunt. We played gully cricket and hide and seek. Soon the adults became tired so me and my siblings, we started racing across the fields.

Finally, we were too tired to play anymore. This was the time for the most amazing part of the picnic, the food. We had brought tasty home-cooked meals from our homes. We unpacked our food and divided it among ourselves. After so many activities my hunger had increased. The food tasted tastier than usual, maybe it was because of the company of the whole family, or maybe it was because I was very hungry. After completing our lunch all of us went for a boat ride. It was my first time riding a boat. At first, I was scared but then slowly I overcame my fear and started enjoying the ride. Then around 5.00 pm, we left for home.

The memories I gathered at the family picnic are some moments I will cherish all through my life. The picnic not only provided a break from the everyday mundane life but also made me happy and allowed me to spend some quality time with my family. I hope we can plan more picnics in the future.

With Family Picnic

Our family had a fantastic lunch at a neighbouring water park last summer. The adrenaline rush began flowing within us the day we spoke for the first time about going on a picnic. While preparing for the picnic, the family's pleasure was at an all-time high. This outdoor trip piqued everyone's interest. The day has finally arrived. How to Make Family Outings More Fun

Enjoying time together builds memories and skills..

Posted June 22, 2021 | Reviewed by Ekua Hagan

  • Telling kids a family trip will be "fun" often evokes immediate opposition. Don't tell them how to feel.
  • When kids seem engaged on a family trip, reinforce it with a positive response. However, it's ok if they stay disengaged.
  • Sharing one's enthusiasm as a parent on a family trip can leave space for kids to get curious enough to enjoy it, too.

Walking our dog down a wooded trail, the family ahead of us had all the signs of a group you wanted to avoid. Pouty stomping almost- teen . Over solicitous and clearly annoyed mother and aunt. Binocular-wielding grandmother 100 yards ahead, calling for them all to hurry up.

Getting closer confirmed the all-too-familiar issues. Mom assuring her daughter that "it is fun." Eye rolls. Heavy auntie sighs and loud grumbles of "I want to go home!" followed by "Come on, it's family time."

When we caught up, the daughter perked up at the dog, immediately asking if she could pet him. She stepped forward with a big smile to tail-wagging wiggles. All the adults around her snapped that "she should have asked," then backed off in surprise when we assured them she had.

Family time in the woods.

4 ways my own parents made family time fun

I come from a big family that did things together every weekend. Sailing. Canoe trips. Picnics. Walks, Visits to Grandma's. Every week. We all came unless we had a scheduled event. It was not optional.

There were lots of times I'd rather have stayed home. But I remember those times together fondly — and so do my sisters and brother. How did my parents manage it?

They didn't tell us it would be fun. Telling people how they feel — or how they're going to feel — is never a good basis for a healthy relationship. And if I'm dead set again going, telling me it will be fun immediately evokes opposition (No, it won't!). Don't go there. Instead, my parents were straightforward: "We're going for a picnic. Grab the frisbee."

They made it a family trip, not a parent trip. Planning an activity for people who are 3 to 50 is tough. It probably means that different things will have different appeals to different folks. So we might go for a walk in the woods and bring along a treat we'd only get on Sundays. They might casually mention, "we'll stop for ice cream on the way home" when they told us to get ready. Or tell us to "bring the cards" or "your phone to take some pictures" or ask us to "tell me about your new roleplaying game." In other words, we'd be canoeing (dad activity) but talking about video games (kid activity) and stopping for frozen custard when we are all hot (family activity). They rarely picked anything we really hated because if they were enthusiastic enough about what they loved (see 3 below), we'd find it was less boring than we thought it was going to be. If they included stuff we liked along the way, there was always something that made it at least okay. Or, if it involved ice cream, kind of nice.

They made it clear that they loved having us there. In other words, they were taking us on an outing because they liked our company, not because it was good for us or would make great memories for us in the future. There's something nice about people who obviously like you around. It feels good to feel loved.

They shared their enthusiasm and ignored our lack of it. I was really struck this morning by how much (negative) attention the young girl got for being unhappy and how little (positive) attention she got for being happy and engaged. I've seen my mom deal with grumbling kids and grandkids for decades. How? Listening and attending but ignoring and engaging. There is nothing wrong with kids grumbling. If that's how they feel, that's how they feel. If the family asks them to be there and they show up, they've done their job. They don't have to enjoy it. Parents can't dictate their emotions (see point 1). Arguing won't make it better.

But they did pay attention and plan activities they thought we'd like (point 2), even if they never told us they were doing so. And they absolutely shared their own enthusiasm, which can be really contagious. In my mind, I could hear my mom's voice: "Look at that tree over there. It's split right in half with a little cave inside." "Did you hear that bird? It sounds like a red tail hawk. Do you remember that hawk scream at the beginning of Mulan ?" "Look at the stream. There's got to be a hundred frogs. Do you see any pollywogs?" "I was just watching this show on Netflix where they talked about wild goats taking over a town in Germany ... "

By chatting about enough things that you are interested in, you are leaving breadcrumbs for their curiosity to follow up on. My mom wouldn't even say it to us — she'd strategically talk to herself while saying things she knew would prick up our ears. She would leave space for curiosity to go from spark to ember to tiny flame. Urie Bronfenbrenner, one of the great psychologists of the 20th century and father of five kids, used to say that the key to engaging kids is to run away slowly enough that they can catch you. My mom is a master of that. Dangle something interesting and, when the kids follow up, express mild surprise and follow their lead.

essay about outing with family

Sharing your love of where you are, what you're doing, and being together can be contagious. Give your kids the opportunity to share that with you. To find it on their own. One day or one trip may bomb. It does. Life is not a long series of high points. But what makes good memories to look back on is a crazy quilt of many different experiences with people you care about.

Essay on “a family outing” for students and children, best essay, paragraph, speech for class 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 in english language..

A Family Outing

A family outing is one of the many joyous occasions a family shares together. A family is what we identify with and though there are angry and sad moments, the happy moments make us forget everything but the joy of being together, under one roof.

I remember my childhood outings especially when my father was posted at Wellington. Ooty is a well-known hill station and to spend four years of your life there is a blessing. There were so many places to visit that, every long weekend meant family outing. Come holiday and we would rise early and get ready, picking our Frisbee and ball and helping our father load the car. Mother would have woken up much earlier to make our breakfast and lunch ready and organize the picnic basket with lots of treats. We would then quickly get into the car with little fights between my brother and me erupting on insignificant issues. At our destination, we would spread the “Darr and off load the items on to it. Mom would then get to stretch her legs after all the effort and Daddy would play Frisbee or ball with us. We would then click pictures, eat and drink, chat leisurely and walk around. My brother and I were fond of climbing trees and would be perched up till the call for lunch came. After a lazy afternoon siesta on the large expanse of trimmed lawns, we would head back home.

Family outings are a great way to bond. So many years later, I still think of those days with pleasure. Today, I am the mother and try to do my bit as my mother once did.

Short Essay on a Picnic with Family – Essay 1 (200 words)

Introduction

In order to escape from the hustle and bustle of the routine life, a retreat is a must. What can be more enjoyable than a picnic time with family with whom we do not get to spend enough time? A picnic not only freshens up the mind, but also helps us to explore new places and enjoy food with our family.

The Picnic – How It Was

We chose the community park of our locality that is situated right beside the limpid brook. The park had a children’s play area where the kids of our family played on slides, swings and other play equipments.

We carried our lunch to the park and decided to have it at the separate picnic area, which we had reserved for that day. After lunch, we sat near the brook, fed the ducks and squirrels and took a walk along the trail. The sunset seen above the brook during twilight was magical and we returned before it was dark.

It was a day well spent with all the members of the family and with this we had a great opportunity to breathe in the fresh air. Escaping the daily routine for a day and being in nature’s lap is definitely important in life.

Essay on a Picnic that I Enjoyed with my Family – Essay 2 (300 words)

In the strain of the work load and juggling between multiple chores, having a family picnic was like an alienated topic to me. All I wanted to have was a relaxing getaway with my family at some place off the beaten path where the city commotions will not be deafening and the air will be pure. Finding such a place was not much of a problem as living in countryside comes up with many pristine places which are yet to be explored.

The Long-Awaited Picnic

It was during the weekend of Christmas and we decided to utilize the vacation fully on the outskirts at a nature park. As most people generally gathered at the urban areas to take the full essence of Christmas, the nature park was less crowded and it gave us the opportunity to reserve a campsite to stay overnight and have picnic.

Surrounded by towering Pine grove, the picnic area was serene with only the chirping of the birds penetrating the silence. The murmuring cascade nearby added to the charm of the forest and we made sure to take a dip into the pool formed beneath the waterfall. The hike to the falls was easy for all the members of family and especially my little nephew was overwhelmed.

Appetite soon hit us after taking a refreshing swim and thanks to my mother, we filled our tummies with delicious sandwiches. Meanwhile my brother was busy barbecuing the chicken with his wife and with it, our lunch was sumptuous.

In the evening, we had bonfire at the picnic site and under the starlit sky, the picnic concluded as we entered our respective camps.

Far from the city crowd, a picnic with family was something all of us longed for to explore the other side of life. A small rustic campsite with grille and picnic facility made our time enjoyable and the added bonanza was the refreshing plunge into the pool.

Essay on Outing with My Family – Essay 3 (400 words)

While sunny days are the most convenient for outing, monsoon showers have their own charm and enjoying rain on a family outing has long been on my bucket-list. Being an avid hiker and photographer, the passion for exploring new places run through my genes, just as my father and mother. My sister who lives in another city had come to our place for her vacations and it was a perfect setup to plan an outing which would rejuvenate our mind and let us enjoy the magic of rains to the fullest.

Outing on the Blue Mountains

The Neelakurinji flower that blooms after a cycle of twelve years was the main attraction behind choosing the Blue Mountains or Western Ghats for the family outing. A long drive along the winding paths of Kodaikanal was a treat in itself and all the members of the family enjoyed watching the rain soaked tender green plantation along the road.

The carpet of the purple Neelakurinji along the hill slopes flashed in front of our eyes as we reached the picnic spot. After freshening up at the restroom of the picnic area, we set out to explore the forests passing through which we would reach the slopes of the Neelakurinji flower meadows. Rain had subdued by then and a magical mist emerged from the top of the mountains.

The soil was wet but there was no clogging of water, which made hiking through the grassland easy for us. The number of flowers gradually increased and finally we were standing in a purple flower laden meadow where soil could not be seen beneath.

We spent quality time taking pictures of this rare flower before hiking back to the picnic area. The caretaker of the picnic spot greeted us with fuming coffee sourced from the nearby coffee plantation along with crunchy vegetable chops. The lunch comprised of Fried Rice, Chilly Chicken and fried vegetables which is grown at the farm nearby.

We spent some more hours watching the rain in the mountains while having the fruit custard prepared by the caretaker’s wife. The couple also talked with us regarding his farms and the picnic spot which gets filled with tourists during public holidays. Biding adieu and promising to return someday, we were homebound.

A break from the monotony of life not only infused a sense of tranquility in our mind, but also helped each of us spend quality time with each other, something we do not get scope of in the routine schedules. The Western Ghat outing was a lifetime experience with the Neelakurinjis.

Essay on A Picnic with My Family and Relatives – Essay 4 (500 words)

The series of examinations made my brain tired of long hours of study and I badly needed a time out with my family. As for my family, they too had not been gone for any outing for the past few years and hence, after the last exam, I decided to call up my aged uncle who lives in another city and ask him to come over with his family. It was time for a family picnic where parents and kids could meet for a reunion and spend a day happily.

Deciding the Place

While my little nephew and niece jumped for the waterpark, my cousin called for the city memorial park and the elders wanted to go to the riverside picnic spot. Finally I and my sister-in-law suggested the countryside farm where my cousin could enjoy photography, kids could interact with farm animals and parents could explore the farm. Everyone jumped in unison and I called the farm owner to confirm our picnic visit the day after.

The Journey

Waking up early and getting ready for the picnic outing, we finally set out in our car. The owner had verified our visit that day and also prescribed the route to be taken to reach his farm. My Mother and aunt had packed breakfast for us which were finished in no time. From the well paved city highway, we took the sideway path that led us to the outskirts where the farm is situated. The pasture fields on both sides of the road and the country cottages kept us charmed till we reached the farm.

The Farm and the Picnic

The cheerful old owner was standing in front of the gate to greet us and his friendliness immediately made all of us comfortable. He escorted us to the rustic cottage where the brick fireplace made us feel cozy. We were served homemade cakes and breads before he took us to the petting farm.

My nephew and niece were screaming in joy seeing the large cocks and hens, rabbits, cows, buffalos, ponies and horses roaming about freely. The owner also gave us grains to feed the birds and grass to feed the animals. The best part however was the pony rides, which the kids thoroughly enjoyed.

My uncle and father remained with the kids and animals while my mother and aunt were busy in the barn kitchen preparing the lunch. Meanwhile I, my cousin and sister-in-law accompanied the owner, had a look at his vast farm where he grew sunflowers, grapes, pumpkins, tomatoes, potatoes and radishes.

As it was the harvest time, he let us pick the vegetables and grapes to bring back home as well as use for lunch specials with eggs and meat dishes obtained from the farm only. After having a scrumptious lunch together on the large table, all of us decided to interact with the owner, take a walk around the farm and fondle the animals, before setting out for home with a relaxed and stress free mind.

Although meeting the relatives regularly is not possible, thanks to our tight schedules but a quick plan for picnic brought all of us together to have endless chitchats, have food together and visit a new place together. The day ended with a heavy heart but the memory will remain forever.

Essay on Picnic in the Park with Family – My Best Experience – Essay 5 (600 words)

It was during the scorching summer months of the year and summer vacations were going on. With daily office, school and college, neither my father nor I and my sister could plan for a family picnic. The temperature was increasing day by day and my mother suggested that we all should go for a family picnic at the city waterpark. Nothing could be more refreshing than splashing water for the whole day and relaxing on hammocks under shades of trees.

The Picnic Spot

To avoid the weekend crowds, my father planned the picnic on a weekday. The waterpark had lazy rivers, swimming pools, water slides and splash pads. It also had an amusement center where thrill rides enchanted me. The highlight was a separate picnic area tucked in the garden where mango, banyan, palm and eucalyptus trees provided ample shade. We reserved a poolside cabana and the picnic gazebo overlooking the lazy river right under the shade of the mango tree.

How We Spent the Day

While my mother, my sister and I arranged spare clothes and towels along with some dry food, father finalized the route and picking up time with the car driver. We set out at 8 am and reached the waterpark at 9.30 am. My father took the tickets while I bought the refreshments before entering.

After entering, we put our belongings in the lockers and freshened up at the restroom while my mother made sure we have the stomach-full of breakfast with Bread and Butter, Noodles and Egg Benedicts. Afterwards we decided to check out the play area where kids were riding slides and rocking on swings. Swans were roaming about whom we fed bread crumbs. We then explored the garden area where many annual, perennial and ornamental plants were planted in separate areas. Mother, being an avid gardening enthusiast, was thoroughly delighted to see the rose beds and cactus at the greenhouse.

The temperature was increasing and so we decided to take a dip into the large pool area. Being a weekday, there was not much crowd and we had so much fun splashing water onto each other and jumping at the splash pad area. My parents were a bit hesitant in entering the pool, but we dragged them anyway. As father rented tubes for me and my sister, we decided to take a leisurely float on tubes on the lazy river before having large pepperoni pizzas and fried chicken for lunch from the picnic gazebo.

The main attraction however was the water slides and tunnels which dropped at the main pool. As they were costly, we opted for only one and it was worth it. After some more soaking in the pool, we entered the cabana and change into new clothes. The cold beverages served here, were very refreshing. Next we visited the amusement park to ride the Roller Coaster and Sky Wheel which made our hearts beat faster in delight. I and mother had ice creams while my sister took the candy floss and father took the roasted groundnuts from the concession carousel.

It was late afternoon by then and the sun was not so scorching. As we were tired after so much action, we decided to sit back at the cabana and enjoy watching others in the pools. We were served cold coffee before we started for home at 5 pm.

With a perfect combination of greenery, water slides, pools and amusement rides, our picnic at the city waterpark was full of fun even when the sun beat down upon us mercilessly. The cool water of the pool area was soothing in the sweltering heat and we had the best picnic experience under the mango grove.

A family is one of the greatest gift god has given to all living creatures on the earth including humans. It is a privilege to have a happy family as not everyone in the world has it.

The joy of living with your parents, fighting with your siblings over petty can just make you smile the moment you think of it. In order to inculcate the values of a family in the students, we have composed some short essays for students.

These essays are suited for students of all ages and classes. Not only these essays shall give an insight on how a family should be but shall also enrich the students with the moral values of a family.

Audience: The below given essays are exclusively written for kids, children and school students.

Family is important to every one of us and we all love our family. Wherever we go in this world and whatever we may achieve, our heart and soul will always be in our home because it is where our beautiful family is. Nothing in this world can be stronger than the bonding of the blood . The members of the same family may have differences of opinions, may quarrel often for silly things but in spite of all these it is our family that supports us during our ups and downs.

As the saying goes, “ Family is the best thing you could ever wish for. They are there for you during the ups and downs and love you no matter what”.

Contrary to this saying, we cannot choose our family as we choose our friends. But I can say that I’m blessed with a wonderful family. My family is very small with four members – my mother, my father, my elder sister and me. My family is a middle class family and my father is officially the bread winner of our family. My mother supports him financially by taking tuitions for school children.

We do not have much money or wealth but what my family has in abundance is love for each other which cannot be replaced by anything else in this world. My father and my mother are the role models to my sister and me. They struggle a lot to give us a better life. More than anything they have taught us discipline and morals of life which is helping us to lead our lives in a righteous path even today.

I cannot ask anything more to God since he has already showered me with my family which I treasure the most every second and will safeguard even in the future.

The family is a valuable god gift which plays a most crucial role in every individual’s life. I love my family very much because all of my family members stand in my good as well as bad times. From moral teachings to love and support, my family has always helped me without any demand. There is no doubt that we experience our biggest triumphs when we really connect to them.

My family is like a strong pillar for me, on which I can rely blindly anytime I require support. From my family, I have learned the social graces of loyalty & cooperation.

My family consists of my grandfather, my grandmother, my mother, my father, two young sisters and myself. My grandparents are the pillars of my family and my grandfather is the head of my family. He is the one whose decision relating to any matter is final and all of us do respect it.

Right from my childhood, my family members have prepared me for the challenges that I’ll face in the years ahead. In addition to this, all of my family members help and serve each other at times of need. These qualities that I have learnt from my family has helped me to shape my adult life in a right manner.

I am really very attached to my grandfather. He holds an excellent life experience because he has already faced so many ups and downs. My Grandfather has helped me to build my perception & vision towards society.

My family has always been there to motivate and encourage me to overcome all difficulties in life and achieve success. The role of every member in my family is unique and important in their own way. I thank God that I have grown up in a family full of love and discipline. My family values will definitely help me in becoming a better person.

A person without family and its love never becomes completely happy in his/her life. I am complete and happy with my family that includes five members. My family is a group of five including me, father, mother, brother, and sister. Family bonding is a unique type of love that gives you every lesson needed to live a harmonious life.

Growing under the supervision of a caring and loving family will increase our social values and overall well-being. Each member of my family carries out equal responsibility in sculpting the strong bonding needed for a better future and develop moral importance in each other.

My father owns a successful business of office stationery store. He uses the money to cover all our expenses and give a better lifestyle to the family. He works hard day and night to get us better education, food, home, etc. He hides all his tiredness when he comes home after a long day to spend quality time with us.

My mother is a talented homemaker who also does a part-time tailoring at home. She does all her duties with at most interest, from taking care of us to all the household chores and finds time to pursue her passion as well. She is a multi-tasker and does all the tasks from helping us in our studies to preparing delicious healthy foods to sculpt us into a better human being.

My brother is an engineering graduate and does a job in a well-known company. He is my best well-wisher and helps me in all ups and downs. My sister is also an engineering graduate and an employee in an IT company. She always finds time to help me with all my difficulties and she is my secret keeper too.

My family is a lifeline to whom I can run to, whatever may be the situation I am facing. My family guides me to be a good person and help me in nurturing good values. We, humans, are animals that live together spreading love and care for each other, and this togetherness is called family. The absence of such a divine bonding make us equal to animals.

Family value and growing in such a caring surrounding helps me to pass all the struggles and hardships that I face in my daily life. Whatever be the situation we are facing, our family will never leave us alone. My family is a blessing for me and I value everyone in my family with equal respect and love.

Most of the people in the world are blessed with having a family. A family, with whom you can share all your joys and sorrows, who is there to guide you through your growing years, who stands by you in the toughest of the situations. I too am blessed to have such a family.

My family is one the most bizarre family in the world. We are four people, my mother, my father, my younger brother and me. While my father is the one who does work for a living, it is my mother who is the boss of the house. My father is a humble person. He is an officer in a government department. My mother is a housewife. It is our mother who takes care of our studies as our father is often busy with his official assignments and even travels for days together. We just miss him when he is not at home.

He never scolds us. But, our mother is just the opposite. She wants us to remain disciplined and we often get scolded by her. However, our father comes to our rescue most of the times. My brother, still in school is the one with whom I love to spend my time the most. Not because I love to play with him, but because, being the elder sister, I enjoy instructing him and showing him who is more powerful at home. He, at a time, seems so helpless when our mother says to obey his sister. I just love that moment. But not all days are the same. I hate having to study all along while he gets to play more than me.

The Atmosphere in my Family:

We largely have a peaceful atmosphere at home. After school, our time is spent on studying, playing and watching television, which of course our mother does not like. Unlike other couples, my mother and father seldom have a fight. In fact, as soon we see an argument brewing up, one of them just withdraws and it is just rare to see a heated conversation between them. This is what I like the most about them as I feel that my parents are so cool. It is only me and brother who love to fight with each other.

However, we know that behind those fights, it is actually our love for each other which binds us together. I just enjoy being at home spending time with my parents and my brother. I just feel how bad it would be when tomorrow I and my brother shall move on for our professional lives and we shall not be able to spend much time together. However, it is the memories of today which shall be with me forever and will bring a smile on my face anytime when I feel low.

The Importance of a Family:

A family is said to be the first school of a child. It is from here you start to learn how to speak, walk and interact with the world. It is important to value the importance of a family in one’s life. At times, people feel that they are grown-ups and that their parent’s advice does not matter anymore, but that is not true. It is the elders of the family who at any given of time would know the world better than us and we should all respect our family members and love our siblings as well. It is the family who builds our character and we should feel fortunate to have a family around us.

Introduction

My family values are what I take so dear to my heart because they have made me what I am today and I plan on passing these great values to my children in future. Every family has those things, acts and values that they hold in high esteem and they cherish so much. These vales have become a part of them: most times, it is what distinguishes the traits in each family and in some ways it makes or mars the future of the family members. Same applies to my family, we have some set values that has become a part of us and it has made my life a lot better because I have become a better person who is not only valuable to himself but also to the society at large. I will be sharing some of these values with you.

My Family Values:

Some of my family values include:

1. Honesty:

This is a principle that is highly protected in my family. My dad has this saying that, “honesty is the best policy.” Ever since I was little, my family has taught me how to be honest and the benefits that lie within. Sometimes, my parents even test us in ways we were not expecting and a reward is given to the person that comes out honest. This is one of my family values that I cherish so much and I am proud that it is what my family hold in high esteem.

2. Kindness to Others:

This is not a common trait to all. My mom has this belief that if the world and everybody in it shows love and kindness to one another, there will be no hatred and wars will be eradicated. This is a family value that we cherish so much. I learnt to show love to everybody. Even when we did not have much, my parents will still give to those who are needy. My dad says that the world is like a river, we would eventually flow into one another later and you do not know the future, the person you helped today might eventually be of help to you tomorrow.

3. Education:

This is a value that has been passed from generation to generation in my family. My dad would say that education is the best legacy you can give to a child. My family does everything in their capacity for you to get a sound and benefitting education. The acquisition of knowledge is also quite important. All of us try to gain more and more knowledge because we all have a family slogan that says “knowledge is power and that power makes me a hero.”

4. Dress and Appearance:

This is a religious value we cherish in my family. My dad would say that you are addressed the way you dress. I do not want to be address wrongly and give out a wrong impression. So, our appearance really matter a lot to us and the way we dress.

Conclusion:

Every family has one thing or the other that they hold in high esteem and tend to pass on from generation to generation. This is what makes a family a united sect not because we are related by blood but because of we share the same values.

Introduction:

Why I love my family is a question that has been floating through my mind for a very long time because no matter how hard I try to pin out a reason why I love them, I just can’t find one. This can be due to fact that they mean the whole world to me and I will do anything for them. I love my family a lot and I would like to share some of the reasons why I love my family and will never trade them for anything.

Why I Love My Family:

I have a family that consists of 6 people: my father, my mother and four children which includes me. For you to understand why I love my family I will tell you a little about each of them and why I love them so much.

My father is the best father in the world: well, that’s what I say. He is a business manager. I look up to my father a lot because I will like to take a lot of his behaviours and make it mine. He taught me to be contented with whatever I have. We did not have much when I was growing up; my dad lost his job and still did not allow anything of the pressure change how he behaved to us at home. He is caring, gentle, accommodating and disciplined.

My mum is the best cook in the world. I do not know where I would be today without my mum. I owe her a lot. She is a teacher by profession and this fascinates me a lot because not only is she inculcating knowledge in the young minds of tomorrow, she is also building the future of our society at large. I want to be like my mum. I remember those times when she had to sacrifice when the most precious of her things just to make me happy. She is loving, caring, understanding, accommodating. In fact, she is everything you can ever wish for in a mother.

My elder sisters are the best. Although they can be frustrating sometimes but that is mostly because of my stubbornness. They pretend they do not really care but deep inside they do. The things they do even subconsciously say otherwise. I remember a day in elementary school, I was being bullied a boy in class. On this particular day, he hit me. Unknowing to me, my sister heard about it and she beat the boy and made him apologise to me, I felt so happy that day because I had someone who had my back.

My brother is one of the best gifts I have received. He is the last child and this gives him an opportunity to be annoying if you know what I mean. He is joyful and always ready to heed correction. There was this day, I heard him bragging to his friends about how awesome I am, and I was the happiest that day.

We all have one reason or the other on why we love our family. I love mine because they are the best gift I could ever ask for and the fact that they have been there for me through the good, bad and funny times.

Importance of family is something that is greatly overlooked and underrated in the world we live in today. The definition that the family had about one hundred years before now was very clear. Back then, a family was believed to be a unit that consisted of the father that was in charge of the finances of the family, a mother whose primary duty was to look after the home and take care of the children and then there were the children. Largely based on the region you are from, a family can also include members of the extended family like aunts, uncles and grandparents. This type of family system is referred to as joint family.

Family Importance:

A family that is important is one that is very strong. If a family is going to be very strong, there is a need for the bond between them to be very strong. Bonds that help in keeping the members of a family with each other are relationships. If there are very strong relationships among all the members of a family, there is going to be stronger commitment between all of them and the family as a unit will be very important.

Better communication is also a result of family relationships that are very strong. If all the family members can take time out to talk and know each other well, the bond between them is bound to be very strong. Even if the conversations are about big things or small things, it does not really matter. The most important thing is that all family members stay connected to one another. It is very important that they all list to each other and understand every member.

How to make Family Bonds Very Strong:

We have various things that can help our family bond to improve.

A few of them include:

1. Love: love is the most important thing we need for our bonds as a family to improve. When we love the members in our family, we will also be able to know all about privacy, intimacy, caring, belonging and sharing. When there is love in a family, the family will prosper.

2. Loyalty: loyalty is something that comes as a result of love. Family members should stay devoted to each other. It is important that we are able to count on our family to have our back anytime we are facing problems.

The importance of family can never be overstated even though we live in a different time now and our attitudes to relationships, marriage and what a family should be has changed. The family is something that we need to help share our problems and be there for us anytime we have issues. A lot of the things that were not acceptable in the past and we now see as normal. Even with all the changes that the society has effected on our family system, the family still remains the major foundation of our society and this will remain the same.

My family is the best gift I have got. A family can be simply said to mean a social group of different people in our society that includes one or more parents and also their children. In a family, every member of the family commits to other members of the family in a mutual relationship. A family is a very important unit and the smallest unit in the society. A family whether a big one or a small one is of very great importance and use to all of its members and is believed to be the unit of our society that is strongest because the society is formed from the coming together and culmination of various families.

In many cultures, the family serves a child’s first school where the child learns all about their traditions and cultures more importantly learn about all the rudimentary values in life. A family is very essential in the teaching of healthy habits and good manners to all the members of the family. It gives the members of the family the opportunity to become people with better character in our society. I feel very lucky to be born into a small and lovely family; I learnt a lot of things from my family.

I am from a middle class and average family with six members (my father, my mother, my grandmother, my grandfather, my younger brother and me). My grandfather is the head of the family and we all respect and listen to him. He is really wise and tries to advise each and every one of us using his many life experiences. He has been involved in many interesting and adventurous activities that he tells me about all the time. Most of the time, he has the final say on all of our family issues and he does his best to make all his decisions impartial.

Any time we are eating today as a family, he sits at the top of the table; we all have designated seats at the dining table. When my brother and I are available, my grandfather teaches us about our traditions and cultures. My grandfather is very friendly and has a cool and great personality and tries to talk nicely and calmly to everyone passing across his message without being rude. He helps my brother and sometimes me with our assignments. He majorly teaches us about all of the tools we need to be successful in life including punctuality, discipline, moral, cleanliness, continuity, honesty, hard work and trustworthiness.

My lovely grandmother is one of the nicest people I know, she tells my brother and I lovely stories every night. My father is a civil engineer and he is very hardworking, sincere and punctual. He is the breadwinner of the family and does his best to provide for every member of the family even if that means he has to work extra hours. My mother is very sweet and takes care of every member of the family even though she works as an accountant at a firm. She wakes up very early in the morning to make preparations for the day. My brother is a funny and jovial person that enjoys sporting activities and I love him so much.

Sometimes I wish my cousins, uncles and aunts lived with us, I love having them around. There are a lot of advantages and disadvantages of having everyone around. I have highlighted some below.

Some advantages are:

1. It gives a better routine of living that can contribute to a proper growth.

2. Having a joint family helps in following the numerous principles of an equitable economy and helps teach discipline and respect. It also teaches us how to share the burden of other family members.

3. There is the understanding of having to adjust to the needs of other family members.

4. The children in a large family get to grow up in a happy environment because they have children of their age around that they can play with.

5. All the members of a joint family are usually very disciplined and responsible as everyone has to follow the instructions of the family head.

Some of the disadvantages include:

1. There is always the chance of a rift or fight between the family members because of the possible imbalance of feelings of oneness, brotherly love and feeling of generosity.

2. There is a chance of the members of the family that earn very high looking down on members of the family that do not.

The concept of family is important in India for every individual. Family defines an individual background in terms of social relations and growth. Families influence the lives of individuals from childhood to adulthood especially in decisions concerning life milestones like marriage and career paths. Indian families live together for up to four generations under one roof and they manage to maintain lose family relations compared to other families across the globe. Indian families tend to stick to their cultural practices as a family and they maintain religious practices that cut across the family. Elders in Indian families are respected by the members of the family and their opinions are considered during decision making.

What Family Really Means :

Basic knowledge defines a family as a group of people who share genetic and legal bonds. However, the concept of family means a lot more for other people than just the bond and it incorporates the concepts of culture and religion. In India, the concept of family differs from what the rest of the world perceives as family.

Families in India go beyond nuclear and extend to wider circles, whereby the extended family lives together and are closely related. The relationships in the family are strong such that cousins are considered siblings and aunts and uncles are considered parents. Family also means the unconditional love among the members of the family whereby there is support in terms of finances and emotions.

Why the Family is so important:

The family plays a central role in lives of individuals in teaching of moral values. Parents, aunts, uncles and grandparents have been known to teach the children on morality and disciplinary issue s in most cultures. Both spiritual and moral values are instilled through family. Family give a sense of belonging to individuals because they are over by the family and supported at all times.

A family will always support its members with needs including financial and emotional needs. In a family, there has been established levels of satisfaction and happiness from the joy of being together. Families also helping community development through contributions and participating in activities in the community. The family is important in the society in maintaining order, discipline and peace.

I come from a big family. My family has not moved to an urban area and so we still live as a wider circle together with the extended family. In my nuclear family, I am the first born of four children. I have one sister and two brothers who are still at school. I have three aunts and two uncles. My cousins are twelve in number and most of them are at school except for the youngest ones.

My grandparents are very old and they do not get out of the house much and are being taken care by my parents and aunts. Most of the children are always at school and the house gets quiet but during holiday, we all unite together as a full house. My family is of the middle class in terms of wealth. Our religion is Hindu and we all practice the Indian cultures and traditions. What I love about my family is that everyone is a good cook and the food is always amazing. Members of my family are kind and respectful and that is why we rarely have disputes. The family support is strong and we all love each other.

Why I love My Family:

Having a big family is interesting because the house always feels warm. As I had earlier mentioned, my family is made of good cooks, which makes me love them. There is always teamwork within the family and good relationships are maintained. I like the adventurous nature of my family because we always have fun whenever we go for holiday vacations or have a family event.

Moral cultural and spiritual values are highly cared for in the society. My family is oriented in good moral values and believe we make a good role model for the society. Despite the influence of education, the family has been able to maintain the culture and traditions of Indian people. The love that exists in my family is precious and that is the most important value of all times because what family without love?

Our Weekend Outings and House Parties:

We do not have many of these in our family because of the different schedules among the members. We only have weekend outings and house parties during holidays. Birthday parties are and weddings are the parties that we frequently have as a family. I love parties at home because the food is usually exceptionally good. Also, the dancing and happy faces. Weekend outings are usually in form of picnics and they are usually full of games.

Cousins Visit during Summer:

My family is young and only three of my cousins are in college. The rest are in high school or elementary schools. Whenever my cousins come home from school, it is a happy moment for the whole family and we host parties to welcome them home. Whenever my older cousins are at home, I enjoy their company and I love to hear stories about college because that is where I will be in a few years’ time.

In the spirit of holidays, we have a vacation or two in a year. During these vacations, plans begin early and when the time comes, it is enjoyable and relaxing. Vacations for us as children tend to be more enjoyable because we have an environment away from home and with minimal parental supervision and we tend to explore and talk among ourselves. Team building during vacations strengthens the bond in families.

Family is a blessing to individuals because that is where they belong and it is what defines them. A good family is built through moral values and team effort. Having family events and parties or vacations re important is strengthening the relationships within a family. A happy individual is definitely from a happy family.

English Essay, Paragraph on “A Family Outing” Essay in 300 words for classes 8, 9, 10, and 12 Students.

A Family Outing

“Ring!” the alarm clock rang. Sam woke up and looked at his alarm clock, it was six-thirty in the morning. He wondered if he was late. Then he remembered that it was the start of the school holidays! He smiled to himself as he had always looked forward to the holidays.

He rested for a while more before he went to his parents’ room. As they were teachers, they also did not have to go to school. He woke them up and asked them what they were going to do. His father smiled at him and then asked him if he wanted to go to the beach. Sam immediately shouted a loud yes and his father chuckled. He told him to wake his younger brother up and get ready.

“Sean! Wake up! We are going to the beach!” Sam shouted. His brother woke up, rubbed his eyes, and looked at him. Sam repeated what he had said and Sean jumped out of bed immediately. He loved swimming and playing with sand.

After they had packed up and their mother had prepared some drinks and light snacks, they were on their way to the East Coast Beach. On the way, they joked and laughed. All of them loved the school holidays.

When they reached the beach, it was rather crowded but they still managed to find a good spot to place their mat and belongings. Sam built a sandcastle with his mother while his father taught Sean how to swim. It was great fun.

After about two hours, they sat down to have some light snacks and drinks. Shortly, Sam asked if he could try cycling as there was a kiosk nearby that rented bicycles. His father nodded his head and in no time, the family was on the cycling track.

At the end of the day, it was a fun time at the beach and they enjoyed themselves tremendously.

An 11-Year-Old Girl’s Fossil Find Is the Largest Known Ocean Reptile

When Ruby Reynolds and her father found a fossil on an English beach, they didn’t know it belonged to an 82-foot ichthyosaur that swam during the days of the dinosaurs.

An illustration shows a giant ichthyosaur carcass washed up on a beach with two small theropods investigating.

By Kate Golembiewski

In 1811, a 12-year-old girl named Mary Anning discovered a fossil on the beach near her home in southwestern England — the first scientifically identified specimen of an ichthyosaur, a dolphin-like, ocean-dwelling reptile from the time of the dinosaurs. Two centuries later, less than 50 miles away, an 11-year-old girl named Ruby Reynolds found a fossil from another ichthyosaur. It appears to be the largest marine reptile known to science.

Ms. Reynolds, now 15, and her father, Justin Reynolds, have been fossil hunting for 12 years near their home in Braunton, England. On a family outing in May 2020 to the village of Blue Anchor along the estuary of the River Severn, they came across a piece of fossilized bone set on a rock.

“We were both excited as we had never found a piece of fossilized bone as big as this before,” Mr. Reynolds said. His daughter kept searching the beach, he added, “and it wasn’t long before she found another much larger piece of bone.”

They took home the fragments of bone, the largest of which was about eight inches long, and began their research. A 2018 paper provided a hint at what they’d found: In nearby Lilstock, fossil hunters had discovered similar bone fragments, hypothesized to be part of the jaw bone of a massive ichthyosaur that lived roughly 202 million years ago. However, the scientists who’d worked on the Lilstock fossil had deemed that specimen too incomplete to designate a new species.

Mr. Reynolds contacted those researchers: Dean Lomax, at the University of Bristol, and Paul de la Salle, an amateur fossil collector. They joined the Reynolds family on collecting trips in Blue Anchor, digging in the mud with shovels. Ultimately, they found roughly half of a bone that they estimate would have been more than seven feet long when complete.

Several features of the bone’s shape indicate that it came from an ichthyosaur’s jaw. To further confirm its identity, the researchers collaborated with Marcello Perillo, a paleontologist with the University of Bonn in Germany. Under a microscope, he found crisscrossed collagen fibers, an ichthyosaur trait. He also saw that despite the giant size of the jaw bone, the reptile hadn’t finished growing when it died.

Taken together, the fossils from Blue Anchor and Lilstock offered evidence of something special.

“Having two examples of the same bone that preserved all the same unique features, from the same geologic time zone, supported the identification that we’ve kind of toyed around with before, that it’s got to be something new,” Dr. Lomax said. “That’s when it got really exciting.”

He and his co-authors of a paper describing the fossil in the journal PLOS One on Wednesday named it Ichthyotitan severnensis, the giant fish lizard of the Severn.

Their estimates suggest Ichthyotitan could have been up to 82 feet long, rivaling the size of a blue whale and making it the largest marine reptile known to science. It lived right before a massive extinction that ended the Triassic Period.

“Inevitably with big extinction events of course, it’s the big things that go first, and so in this case, literally the biggest things in the ocean, they are wiped out, and this entire family disappears,” Dr. Lomax said.

Erin Maxwell, a paleontologist at the State Museum of Natural History, Stuttgart in Germany who was not involved with the study, said that the find sheds light on ichthyosaur evolution. “Before, there were hints that there were these giant ichthyosaurs approaching the Triassic-Jurassic boundary, but the amount of evidence is becoming incontrovertible at this point,” she said.

Dr. Lomax said that this discovery also highlighted the importance of amateur fossil collectors. “If you have a keen eye, if you have a passion for something like that, you can make discoveries like this,” he said.

Ruby Reynolds said: “I didn’t realize when I first found the piece of ichthyosaur bone how important it was and what it would lead to. I think the role that young people can play in science is to enjoy the journey of exploring as you never know where a discovery may take you.”

The World of Dinosaurs

Was Spinosaurus a Swimmer?: Paleontologists agree that the dinosaur ate fish. But whether it swam underwater is a question of prickly contention.

Robo-Dinosaur:  The origin of bird wings has long presented a puzzle to paleontologists, so scientists built a working model of an early winged dinosaur  to test a hypothesis about how the appendages evolved.

New Origin Story:  The discovery of a new species of Tyrannosaurus from New Mexico suggests a new chapter could be added to the origin story  of Tyrannosaurus rex.

A  Tinier Tyrannosaur:  Researchers are trying to remake the case that fossils known as Nanotyrannus were their own species , rather than a teenage Tyrannosaurus rex.

A Fossilized Meal:  Some 75.3 million years ago, a dinosaur swallowed the Cretaceous equivalent of a turkey drumstick. It would turn out to be the predator’s final feast .
