Kalimat Verbal/ Verbal Sentence

Kalimat verbal dalam present tense adalah kalimat yang disusun menggunakan kata kerja.

Kata kerja yang digunakan dalam present tense adalah kata kerja bentuk pertama. Untuk kata kerja dengan subyek she, he, it pada bagian akhir ditambahkan dengan s/ es. Sedangkan untuk subjek lainnya tidak.

Rangkuman Materi Simple Present Tense

Rumus atau formula dari Simple Present Tense adalah Subject + Verb 1 + The rest of the sentences, sedangkan untuk kata ganti orang ketiga He/She/It + Verb 1+s/es + The rest of sentences.

Penggunaan 's/es' disesuaikan dengan akhiran kata kerja. Sebagai misal, untuk kata kerja berakhiran '-o', '-ch', '-sh', '-x', atau '-z' ditambahkan '-es' di akhir kata. Untuk kata kerja berakhiran konsonan 'y' ditambahkan '-ies' dengan menghilangkan imbuhan 'y'.

Rumus Simple Present Tense

I / You / They / We + Verb 1

Contoh kalimat:

“I go to the gym with my friend”

I + go ( verb 1 ) + the rest of the sentence

She / He / It + Verb 1 + s/es

“She goes to the school by bus”

She + goes ( verb 1 + es ) + the rest of the sentence

Untuk menentukan s/es untuk kata kerja orang ketiga, Anda harus melihat akhiran dari kata kerja (verb) tersebut, perhatikan contoh dibawah ini:

Menambahkan “ s ” pada kata kerja yang berakhiran vokal + Y; dan berakhiran E

Make – makes

Create – creates

Menambahkan “ es ” pada kata kerja yang berakhiran O, CH, SH, S, dan X

Approach – approaches

Blush – blushes

Process – processes

Tax – taxes

Menambahkan “ ies ” pada kata kerja yang berakhiran konsonan + Y

Modify – modifies

Cry – cries

Magnify – magnifies

Carry – carries

Untuk memperjelas, mari kita masukkan contoh di atas kedalam sebuah kalimat.

The baby cries all night. I can’t barely sleep.

Simple present tense memiliki tiga jenis kalimat yang terbagi menjadi affirmative , negative , dan interrogative . Misalnya untuk menulis kalimat yang berasal dari kata “ To think ”.

Bentuk affirmative – Bentuk Interrogative – Negative

I think – Do I think? – I do not think.

You think – Do you think? – You do not think.

He thinks – Does he think? – He does not think.

She thinks – Does she think? – She does not think.

It thinks – Does it think? – It does not think.

We think – Do we think? – We do not think.

They think – Do they think? – They do not think.

Rumus Affirmative, Negative, dan Interrogative

Simple present affirmative

S + Verb 1 / Verb dasar / to be ( is , am , are ) + O

“I read this novel every day.”

“He cries every night since his dog died.”

Simple present interrogative

Do / Does + S + Verb 1 + O

“Do you think he’s mad at me?”

“Does he read the instructions?”

Simple present negative

S + Don’t / Doesn’t + Verb 1 + O atau S + to be ( is , am , are ) + not + O (untuk kata kerja / verb berbentuk to be )

“I don’t think she gets the letter.”

“He doesn’t come last night.”

Hello peeps . Bicara soal tenses memang tidak ada habisnya. Tenses terkadang membuat kita bingung terutama pada penggunaaan dan struktur kalimatnya.

Tetapi jika kita melihat contoh soal simple present tense beserta pembahasannya, menggunakannya langsung dalam percakapan sehari-hari, dilatih terus menerus, kalian akan dengan mudah memahami dan menggunakan tenses tersebut.

Bagi siswa, mahasiswa, dan masyarakat umum, tenses cukup melekat terutama ketika tes bahasa Inggris dengan berbagai tujuannya.

Supaya lebih pasti dan meyakinkan, berikut kami akan membahas beberapa contoh soal simple present tense beserta pembahasannya yang diharapkan dapat membantu pemahamanmu.

Soal-soal dan pembahasannya

1. Children always …….. their parents.                                                                                                                                

a. are loving

b . is loving

Penjelasan : Children always love their parents memiliki arti “Anak-anak selalu menyanyangi orangtua mereka”. Mengapa jawabannya ‘ love ’?

Karena untuk dapat menentukan kata kerja yang tepat, ditentukan oleh subjeknya . Pada kalimat tersebut subjeknya adalah Children .

Dimana dalam kalimat simple present tense, jika subjek dimulai oleh I, You, They, We ,  maka akan diikuti oleh verb (kata kerja) dasar, dalam artian tidak diikuti oleh imbuhan apapun.

Children dimasukkan ke dalam kategori “They” karena Children merupakan kata benda berbentuk plural (lebih dari satu orang), maka dari itu diikuti oleh kata kerja “ love ”.

2. The man always……… the truth.

b . is telling

d. are telling

Penjelasan: The man always tells the truth. Memiliki arti “Pria itu selalu mengatakan yang sebenarnya”. Mengapa jawabannya ‘ tells ’?

Sama seperti penjelasan di atas. Namun pada kalimat ini. Subjek dari kalimat ini adalah ‘ The man ’. Jika subjek dimulai oleh She, He dan It maka kata kerja (verb) ditambahkan akhiran es/s . The man merupakan kata benda berbentuk singular yang berarti “he” dimana ‘he’ merupakan subjek ketiga tunggal yang mengharuskan kata kerja ditambahkan es/s. Maka kata kerja menjadi ‘tells’.

3. The students usually……… fifteen minutes before the class starts.

d. are coming

Penjelasan: The students usually come fifteen minutes before the class starts. Memiliki arti “Siswa biasanya datang lima belas menit sebelum kelas mulai”.

The students merupakan kata benda jamak/ plural yang memiliki peran sebagai subjek yang diikuti oleh kata kerja ( verb) dasar.

The students dimasukkan ke dalam kategori “They” karena the students merupakan kata benda berbentuk plural (lebih dari satu orang), maka dari itu diikuti oleh kata kerja “ come ”.

4. Everybody …….. work hard everyday.

Penjelasan: Everybody doesn’t work hard everyday. Memiliki arti “Setiap orang tidak bekerja keras setiap hari”. Everybody merupakan subjek dimana membutuhkan kata kerja yang ditambakan dengan akhiran s/es.

Every berarti ‘setiap’ dan termasuk ke kategori singular. Jika noun sebagai subjek bersifat singular maka kata kerja diikuti akhiran es/s.

Namun sekarang tergantung kembali pada jenis kalimatnya. Jika jenis kalimatnya merupakan kalimat negatif, maka pada kalimat ditambahkan kalimat does not (doesn’t) yang memiliki arti ‘tidak’.

Does disini berfungsi sebagai kata kerja bantu yang disebut dengan auxiliary verb , yang berarti tidak.

Kata kerja utamanya adalah “ work ” Jadi kalimat di atas memiliki arti “Setiap orang tidak bekerja keras setiap hari”.

5. ……… to Temple every time?

a. Does you go

b. Do you go

c. Are you go

d. Have you go

Penjelasan: Do you go to Temple every time? Kalimat ini memiliki arti “Apakah kamu pergi ke Pura setiap saat?”

Untuk bentuk pertanyaan yang memiliki subjek I, You, They, We menggunakan bentuk pertanyaan “ Do ” sedangan subjek She, He, It menggunakan bentuk pertanyaan “ Does ” maka dari itu kalimat di atas tidak menggunakan pertanyaan ‘ Does you ’ karena does untuk subjek She, He, It .

Jika dirubah akan menjadi ‘ Does she go to Temple every time?’

6.   He doesn’t ………. that Mr. Buhima is our maths teacher.                                                                                                 

Penjelasan: Dia doesn’t know that Mr. Buhima is our maths teacher. Kalimat ini memiliki arti “Mereka tidak tahu bahwa Mr. Buhima adalah guru Matematika kita”. Mengapa jawabannya adalah ‘know’.

Jawaban c sudah tidak mungkin karena knew merupakan kata kerja untuk ‘past tense’ dan jawaban d. known untuk present perfect tense yang didahului oleh have/has dan bukan b. knows karena untuk kalimat negatif dan pertanyaan, setelah does/doesn’t, do/don’t kembali diikuti oleh kata kerja dasar. Akhiran es/s hanya untuk kalimat positif.

7. Rini and her sister always….. English conversation at home.   

a. are practicing

b. practiced

c. practice

d. practices

Penjelasan: Rini and her sister always practice English conversation at home. Kalimat ini memiliki arti “Rini dan adiknya selalu mempraktekkan percakapan bahasa Inggris di rumah”.

Jawaban c merupakan jawaban yang paling tepat karena merupakan kata benda yang bersifat subjek berbentuk jamak, yaitu “Rini and her friend” jadi harus diikuti oleh kata kerja dasar.

8. How often …… coffee?

a. mother drinks

b. mother does drink

c. did mother drink

d. does mother drink?

Penjelasan: How often does mother drink coffee? Kalimat ini memiliki arti “Seberapa sering Ibu minum kopi?” Pada jenis kalimat pertanyaan, selalu diawali “ does ” atau “ do ” dan diikuti oleh subjek.

Tidak bisa kita mengatakan, “How often mother does drink coffee?” Kalimat tanya ini kurang tepat. Sama seperti contoh kalimat tanya ini, yang tepat “What are you doing?” bukan “What you are doing?”.

9. It …… a lot of money to buy that car.

d. costes                                                                 

Penjelasan: It costs a lot of money to buy that car. Kalimat ini memiliki arti “Membutuhkan uang yang banyak untuk membeli mobil itu”.

Sama seperti penjelasan di atas. Subjek dari kalimat ini adalah ‘ It ’. Jika subjek dimulai oleh She, He dan It maka kata kerja (verb) ditambahkan akhiran es/s . Maka kata kerjanya menjadi ‘costs’.

10. My brother and my sister ………….. to work early in the morning.

d. are driving

Penjelasan: My brother and my sister drive to work early in the morning. Kalimat ini memiliki arti “Saudara laki-laki dan perempuan saya pergi bekerja awal di pagi hari”.

Jawaban a merupakan jawaban yang paling tepat karena merupakan kata benda yang bersifat subjek berbentuk jamak, yaitu “My brother and my sister” jadi diikuti oleh kata kerja dasar.

Jadi dapat disimpulkan bahwa jenis kalimat present tense merupakan kalimat yang digunakan untuk membicarakan tentang kebiasaan kita sehari-hari yang terus berulang dan menjadi suatu kebiasaan.

Struktur kalimat present tense tidak pernah menggunakan ‘to be’ karena ‘to be’ digunakan untuk jenis kalimat present continuous tense yang berarti digunakan untuk kejadian/aktifitas yang sedang berlangsung.

Bukannya to be juga dipake disimple present tense kalimat nominal ya? rumusnya S + is/am/are + compliment. Contoh kalimat nya “She is beautiful” atau I am strong

Sementara ketika simple present tense mempunyai subyek orang ketiga yaitu He, She, It menggunakan verb diakhiri -s, -es, -ies .

Contoh : sleeps, watches, cries, studies, goes, carries, fixes, worries, plays, says, enjoys, etc. – She goes to the school by bus.

Jenis Simple Present Tense

Berdasarkan tujuan kalimatnya, soal simple present tense terbagi menjadi 3 (tiga) jenis yakni :

• Simple Present Tense Affirmative (menyampaikan informasi). Contoh : Joko Widodo is the President of Indonesia.
• Simple Present Tense Negative. Contoh : She doen’t read Shakespeare’s book everyday.
