The United States of America(The USA)

General information The USA is a federation of fifty states. Forty eight are on the mainland and there is Alaska on the north west of Canada and the Hawaiian islands in the Pacific Ocean. The capital city is Washington DC.

Geography of the USA The United States of America, in central North America, is the fourth largest country in the world. It is 2,575 kilometres from north to south and 4,500 kilometres from east to west. Because the country is so big, every state has different laws and traditions and there are four different time zones.

The USA borders Canada in the north and Mexico in the south and it is a country of great scenic and climatic contrast. There is an artic climate in Alaska and a subtropical climate in Florida.

The stars and stripes The flag of the United States of America is called The Stars and Stripes. The thirteen stripes represent the thirteen original colonies and the fifty stars the actual states. The colours of the flag are blue for justice, red for courage and white for innocence.

American English is the first language and the second language is Spanish. The American currency is the American Dollar.

The national anthem The national anthem of the United States of America is the Star-splangged banner. The lyrics come from "Defence of Fort McHenry",a poem written in 1814 by the 35-year-old amateur poet Francis Scott key.

The Government of the United States of America

The federalgovernmentof the UnitedStatesof America (USA) ismade up ofthreeparts. ThePresident, the Congress and the Supreme court.

The President is the executive branch. The President: cannot be younger than 35; must be a native born American; must be a resident of the USA for 14 years. The President of the USA is Barack Obama. He was elected in 2009 and in 2013.

The Congress is the legislative branch. • One person cannot have too much power, so Congress must approve the President’s decisions. • Congress makes laws and there are two parts to Congress: • The House of Representatives where there are 435 members elected for two years; • The Senate with 100 members, two from each state, elected for 6 years. • There are two main political parties: The Repubblican Party and the Democratic Party.

The Supreme court is the judical branch. It consists of the Chief Justice of the United States and eight Associate Justices, who are nominated by the President. The Court meets in Washington D.C. in the United States Supreme Court Building.

See Team USA's Medal-Worthy Olympic Uniforms and Gear Ahead of the Summer Games

Another Olympics, another handful of iconic Team USA apparel from brands like Ralph Lauren.

Lost in all the excitement of the buildup to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris is the low-key reveal of many of Team USA's uniforms.

While it's obviously essential for fans to become invested in the journeys of countless athletes attempting to make their Olympic dreams come true, there's also nothing wrong with enjoying a good, old-fashioned Team USA uniform reveal! After all, part of being a U.S. Olympian is being draped in some of the most iconic uniforms in sports and competition history.

While all of Team USA will be dressed to the nines in Paris, these are the uniforms we're most excited to see throughout the Summer Olympics:

Opening Ceremony (and Stylish Fan Gear) – Ralph Lauren's Classic Look 

Believe it or not, for the United States, it's hard to stand out during an Olympic Opening Ceremony because all eyes are primarily on the host city. The pomp and circumstance of the Opening Ceremony will undoubtedly be based around France in 2024, but that doesn't mean Team USA is resting on their laurels on July 26. Thanks to a timely fashion partnership, they'll be dressed to compete — and dressed to kill.

Team USA is partnering with renowned fashion designer Ralph Lauren to once again turn heads as only he can. Since 2008, the designer has been responsible for the iconic Opening Ceremony attire Team USA has proudly worn — and 2024 will be no different. While the official Opening Ceremony looks have yet to be revealed, Ralph Lauren has enlisted U.S. Olympians to model some fan gear that's available for American fans to rep their home nation in style. 

For the Podium – Traditional and Sleek Fit by Nike

Nike is in charge of outfitting Team USA's medal-winning athletes — and as early looks have already proven, every man and woman standing atop the winner's podium will be celebrating in comfort  and  style.

According to Nike, medal winners will don blue "zipped jackets with mock collars and slim-fitting pants with tapered legs made from the same stretchy material as the jacket." Using many design cues and flourishes from the classic Nike attire of yesteryear, the athletes will easily be confused for activewear models. Of course, the podium uniform isn't complete without authentic Nike Air Max sneakers to round out the look. Don't worry; Nike will supply every medal winner with new, color-matched kicks.

Track and Field's Controversial Look from Nike

While the Opening Ceremony and podium uniforms are relatively straightforward and modern, with plenty of nods to Team USA's past, the official Team USA track and field uniforms have already made headlines for being quite controversial in the eyes of many fans.

Nike once again was the mind behind the track and field uniforms and has gone on the record by saying, "The Paris 2024 collection is the most data-driven and visually unified effort Nike has ever produced. Featuring the Dri-FIT ADV platform, the 50 unique pieces serve athletes across a multitude of disciplines, body types, and size ranges with maximum breathability and athlete performance in mind."

In the eyes of Nike, these uniforms are tailor-made for maximum performance and comfort for any track and field athlete competing in Paris. Unfortunately, the internet backlash against the polarizing design has already begun.

Almost immediately after these uniforms were announced, critics denounced the women's attire, explicitly pointing out it resembles a thin bathing suit or a leotard rather than something appropriate for Team USA. The backlash has been so swift that it has led many people to believe Nike will walk back these uniforms, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

As many athletes have correctly pointed out, the controversy stems from one specific piece designed for female Olympians — in the end, it's a personal choice for any athlete to decide which of Nike's 50 track and field uniform pieces they will wear. In fact, all athletes have the option to wear uniforms designed for men if they so desire.

Although we're sure the controversy over these uniforms won't go away anytime soon, we're confident Team USA can shut out the noise and focus on bringing home plenty of gold medals in Paris – regardless of what a vocal minority thinks about their uniforms.

Basketball – An Updated, Timeless Design

We're suckers for simple, classically-styled Team USA basketball uniforms, and it looks like the Dream Team -esque squad of NBA superstars will be rocking another classic Nike design in Paris.

The simple block letters and straightforward design harken back to the criminally underrated 1984 Team USA uniforms, and we must say – players like LeBron James look more at home in Team USA blue than they do in their home NBA unis!

We love that NBA legend Grant Hill — Team USA's managing director — made house calls to give his players their 2024 Olympic jerseys. It's little touches like those that matter most, and it speaks volumes to the Olympic bond that will bring James, Joel Embiid, Jayson Tatum, and nine of the best basketball players in the world together to hopefully win the gold medal again.

Climbing – Eye-Catching Yet Functional Uniform by The North Face

Nike isn't the only apparel company getting attention for official Team USA uniforms — The North Face is throwing its hat into the ring in 2024 for its second consecutive Olympics. They are the official uniform provider of Team USA's climbing team, and the iconic outdoors-lifestyle brand isn't shying away from being bold with its design language.

Climbers are some of the most expressive and passionate athletes on the Team USA roster, so it makes sense that their attire reflects that. Traditional American blue provides the backdrop for big fonts and bright red striping running in all directions — let's be honest, it's a great look. The North Face has included thoughtful touches in the design process, too, like eliminating traditional interior stitching in favor of external taping to reduce chafing — something every Team USA climber will surely be excited about.

Golf – A High-End Look by J. Lindeberg

Team USA is not only going for gold on the links but also intends to win the "best dressed" competition in Paris thanks to a surprising partnership with Scandinavian-based clothing brand J.Lindeberg.

These golf uniforms are style personified — call it garish or loud if you must, but Team USA's golfers will be arguably the most well-dressed of any Olympic squad. 

(We're partial to the red pants and all-over color-blocked polo combination ourselves. There's something about golfers wearing red that inspires confidence — just ask Tiger Woods, who famously wears a red polo shirt whenever he reaches the final round of a tournament!) 

Team USA's golf partnership with J.Lindeberg will extend through the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics , so if fans and viewers can't get enough of the style of their favorite golfers in Paris, they'll only have to wait four more years to get another taste of this seemingly out-of-nowhere apparel partnership.

Skateboarders from the US and Japan will wear Nike kits at the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics . Two months out from the Games’ kickoff, Nike SB has given a first look at this year’s federation kits.

Professional skater and architect Alexis Sablone , who competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics, was tapped by Nike to help design the kits. Each piece draws from classic workwear garments, the typical garb of skaters.

How to watch Detroit Tigers games on Bally Sports during Comcast Xfinity outage

The Detroit Tigers wrapped up another series victory on Wednesday at Comerica Park, beating the St. Louis Cardinals for the second straight time with right-hander Kenta Maeda on the mound.

But fans with Xfinity as their cable provider who were looking to tune into the Bally Sports Detroit broadcast led by play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti on Wednesday afternoon were out of luck. That's because the channel is now under an area blackout because Diamond Sports and Comcast could not reach a new carrier agreement before midnight last night.

"We are disappointed in the stalled negotiation between Bally Sports Detroit and Comcast, and the inconvenience it may cause for Tigers fans," the Tigers said in a statement Wednesday to the Detroit Free Press.  "Fans who subscribe to other cable companies are unaffected. Those who are impacted can continue to watch Tigers games on the Bally Sports+ app, DirecTV, Fubo, and MLB.tv. The Tigers have no voice in this matter but are hopeful the two sides will come to an agreement as soon as possible."

Comcast Xfinity-Bally Sports outage

As aforementioned, Comcast and Diamond Sports Group were unable to come to an agreement by its deadline of Midnight on Wednesday for the TV network to continue carrying games. Bally Sports Detroit, along with the other Bally Sports regional channels, was removed from Xfinity as it doesn't have the rights to carry the network any longer.

“We have been very flexible with Diamond Sports Group for months as they work through their bankruptcy proceedings, providing them with an extension on the Bally Sports Regional Networks last fall and a unilateral right to extend the term for another year, which they opted to not exercise,” Comcast said in a statement. “We’d like to continue carrying their networks, but they have declined multiple offers and now we no longer have the rights to this programming. We will proactively credit our customers for the costs associated with them — most will automatically receive $8 to 10 per month in credits.”

Last year when a similar blackout happened between the MLB and Diamond Sports Group, Major League Baseball took control of the San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondback's broadcasts after Diamond Sports was unable to "make its required payment to the club earlier this month" per USA Today. The league broadcasted produced these games themselves using MLB Network and its own entities. It remains unseen if the league will intervene once again after Wednesday's development. Major League baseball has not yet released a statement.

How to watch Tigers baseball during Bally Sports, Comcast blackout?

There are several ways to still watch the Tigers, along with other local Detroit teams, during this blackout between Diamond Sports and Comcast. Games on Bally Sports Detroit will still be broadcast on DirecTV (channel 663) .

As previously noted by the Detroit Free Press, Bally Sports Detroit is able to be streamed in-market on the  Bally Sports+ app as it is one of few Diamond Sports regional channels that allows in-market streaming. You can also stream Tigers games on Fubo, which provides a free trial to select users , along with MLB.tv for out-of-market fans.

As noted by the Tigers website, Bally Sports+ can be accessed through multiple ways. You can watch it on BallySports.com, Amazon Fire, Android TV, Apple TV, Roku, Samsung TV’s and mobile/tablet devices (iOS and Android).

Bally Sports bankruptcy update

Diamond Sports Group filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy back in March of 2023 , which created the first wave of blackouts across MLB markets that had broadcasting rights with Bally Sports regional networks.

Since then, the situation has continued to develop as networks and other leagues that the Bally Sports regional networks serve — most notably the NBA and NHL — have experienced similar developments. Earlier this year, the NBA and DSG had its one-year agreement approved by a federal bankruptcy judge to allow the Bally Sports regional networks to broadcast the 2023-24 NBA season before returning the TV rights back to the NBA after this season.

As noted in an article from Barrett Sports Media on Wednesday , Xfinity dropping Bally Sports comes two weeks after "a bankruptcy judge had approved a disclosure statement with $450 million of debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing, $350 million of which is allocated to pay its first-lien debt holders." It also mentioned that Amazon — which already produces Thursday Night Football during the NFL season on Amazon Prime — is prepared to invest $100 million into Diamond Sports Group as part of the restructuring of DSG by becoming the primary streaming partner for the company. That has not been approved by the bankruptcy court.

Also noted in that same article, it mentioned that Diamond Sports Group came to terms on a multi-year carriage renewal with DirecTV on Monday afternoon.
