Social Communication Crisis Theory Over the Blue Bell Ice Cream Crisis Case Study

Introduction.

In 2015, Texas-based Blue Bell Creameries recalled its products in 108 years of operation for the first time. The Centers for Disease Control estimates that one in six Americans become ill each year due to eating contaminated food, and 3,000 people die (Calley et al., 2019). Blue Bell deliberately reminisced about all ice cream products after listeria was identified, linked to ten diseases leading to three deaths (Meisner & Hinderaker, 2020). Marketing-oriented firms like Blue Bell prove the importance of trust with their customers, but when it is lost, it backfires. Coombs developed a theory of situational crisis communication for effective post-crisis communication to minimize reputational extortion (Coombs, 2018). The theory shows how crisis response tactics can be used to protect reputational assets and is based on what was originally known as image recovery. SCCT consists of three sections: Crisis, Response Tactics, and Suggestions, and uses attribution theory. This study examines the means used by Blue Bell to communicate the incident through the media.

RQ: What distress reporting methods did Blue Bell use, and how did the major broadcasters build a public storyline around the 2015 Blue Bell Creameries listeriosis epidemic in a way that the company retained strong customer support?

This study uses a comparative analysis of Blue Bell’s press releases and press coverage of an ice cream recall event in 2015. Printed in locations where Blue Bell goods were sold, nationwide news stories were included in the sample, gathered using an internet exploration and news databanks. Local news stories were collected using Newsbank’s Access World News database. I narrowed the results using the dates 2015, March to June 2016, the front-page search “Blue Bell,” and the all-text examination Listeria. Narrative newscast framing in catastrophe 22, the first impurity complaints, and Blue Bell’s reintroduction to the souk was used to define the date range. Google News was used to collect national news stories utilizing the same benchmarks as the Newsbank folder search. Based on the collected data, the similarities and differences in the coverage of the Blue Bell crisis in the company’s messages and in the local press were examined.

The findings of this intertextual show the public chronicle around Blue Bell Creameries’ 2015 crisis of listeriosis outbreak, as reported by nationwide and local news outlets. The data-driven intertextual account of the issue illustrates the disparity in how national and local media frame news reports regarding Blue Bell’s dilemma. The four crisis response tactics employed as frameworks were denied, decreased, rebuilt, and boosted. A study of Blue Bell reports has shown rapid recognition of a problem with contaminated products. After reports surfaced that Blue Bell was the culprit, the company made little attempt to justify itself. A small attempt to reduce and downplay the company’s guilt was found in the early responses, but this method is not observed in the rest. A study of third-party news sources has shown that they are mostly based on the words of Blue Bell officials. None of the news outlets studied downplay the company’s fault in the incident, but all try to be objective.

The writers’ interpretative framework and who is given voice are identified through production analysis. At each crisis stage, the national media virtually exclusively provided the voice to government entities engaged. The Washington Post, in March 2015, led with remarks from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the FDA regarding the inquiry when the voluntary recall was initially announced (Dennis, 2015). From Food and Drug Administration’s analysis, it becomes clear that the bacterium in question, which was responsible for the incident, was in the products at the enterprise in 2014; that is, the company did not comply with the norms for at least a year before the incident (2015). A survey of listeriosis outbreaks by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention pointed to Blue Bell being directly at fault for the outbreak in 2015 but indicated that the company was working to correct the situation (2015). Blue Bell received a lot of local press attention in locations where it did trade, and it was raised to the position of a cultural icon. For example, KHOU’s coverage of Blue Bell was perhaps the most constant of those surveyed, with a program centering on a “Support Blue Bell” Day held in Brenham near Blue Bell’s head office (2015). Thus, despite the obvious fault of the company in the event, it managed to get support.

Interpretive Framing

The subjective assessment of the incident was less popular in the national media; the majority tried to be objective in covering the issue. National media coverage of the incident focuses on listeriosis from a scientific and non-partisan perspective, emphasizing the health risks to consumers. Coverage of this issue has become massive, with the participation of many news agencies. The news was filled with headlines about Blue Bell’s history in Texas at the start of the voluntary recall.

Distribution

News coverage is viewed as part of a system of intertextual chronicles in distribution analysis, integrated into a public narrative with other texts. As a result, intertextual distribution analysis uncovers the juxtaposed examples utilized to form an impressive chronicle and underlines the contrast between synchronized texts conveying the same tale in various ways, at least factually (Meisner, 2017). The same story happens when the information affects the reader differently if newsagents use various approaches to convey information.

Juxtaposition

Other large-scale adulteration episodes were juxtaposed with Blue Bell’s 2015 listeriosis disaster in the national media. When other organizations’ crises were more serious than Blue Bell’s, the local media frequently compared them to Blue Bell. Other food crises and recall incidents, whether or not linked to Listeria infection, were paralleled in the media. Based in Ohio, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams announced an intentional recall following a positive test for Listeria bacteria in their manufacturing facilities, a situation that several national media sites compared to. Blue Bell and Jeni’s were compared by the New York Times on May 7, 2015, and CNN Money on August 5, 2015 (Meisner & Hinderaker, 2020). The Houston Chronicle published a report on April 27, 2015, linking a Salmonella epidemic neglected by a corporation, Peanut Corporation of America, to the company’s bankruptcy (Chernov & Sornette, 2020). Thus, the Blue Bell incident became an example of the company’s crisis in the national media.

Local and national media have largely influenced the story of the Blue Bell dilemma. The incident was presented as a public health issue, and customers were warned of the potential hazards that listeriosis infection could bring. The Los Angeles Times began its story in March 2015 under the headline “Three Deaths Linked to Contaminated Ice Cream in Kansas” (Meisner, 2017). Several national publications have also quantified the disaster, highlighting the loss of life. It is worth noting that Blue Bell received many negative reviews in the local press. On the other hand, stories criticizing Blue Bell’s predicament were published almost exclusively from letters to the editor.

Discussion and Conclusion

The research question was to determine the crisis response strategies that Blue Bell used and the means of reporting the situation in the national media. Blue Bell’s strategies can be described as both defensive and adaptive. Defensive responses insist that there is no problem and are aimed at convincing the buyer that everything is in order with the organization. Accommodative responses are characterized by the organization taking full responsibility, recognizing the problem, and attempting to take corrective action. A defensive response strategy downplays or understates the problem. Examined data shows that Blue Bell’s press releases used denial and downplay strategies; however, they were not common.

The Blue Bell type of crisis can be considered an incident due to human error, which could have been prevented, and the responsibility for the incident lies entirely with Blue Bell. The company chose a successful strategy from the beginning and did not deny its involvement in the disease outbreak, resulting in human sacrifices. Instead, the company decided to restore its reputation and improve the brand by taking responsibility for the incident. According to the situational theory of crisis communication, crisis response strategies can shape behavioral intentions towards an organization and restore a company’s image and reputation (Ndone & Park, 2022). In general, Blue Bell’s press announcements revealed that the corporation followed Coombs’ theory, which advised what companies should do in times of crisis (Brooks, 2017). The rebuild stance was the most dominating of the four, implying that Blue Bell was attempting to swiftly rehabilitate and recover the company’s reputation by accepting some responsibility for the issue and apologizing to customers for the outbreak.

Most news sources quoted Blue Bell officials directly and based the news on their statements. Newsagents also cited unidentified sources to heighten the emotional impact, citing unconfirmed experts and the government. The news supports the “Apologetic Tone” of company officials, which Coombs says is a successful strategy given that the incident could have been prevented. (Ramamurthy, 2018). The information contained in the Blue Bell press releases was purposefully aimed at an apology for the current situation, so the citation in this vein is not surprising.

The media can use the existing framework when providing information; they can also develop their patterns aimed, for example, to increase the emotional impact. If establishments actively express their stories to the public and utilize their frames, the media may also use the same frames. The most common stance in this research was rebuild, indicating that Blue Bell was quickly attempting to mend and recover its status by accepting some responsibility for the disaster and apologizing to customers (Whitten, 2018). This is a compelling explanation of how the company managed to maintain its reputation and not lose customers, despite the serious blame for the outbreak of a dangerous disease. The organization will always ensure that the media publish reliable information about the incident, regardless of the sources. The national media based their reports on the incident by quoting Blue Bell officials or based their coverage entirely on reports from company representatives.

All of a source’s comments might be used to help frame the crisis tale. These statistics reveal the sources utilized in news items and the most common themes discussed by those sources. The recognition of their mistakes and the conduct of all necessary examinations immediately contributed to preserving the company’s reputation. All four reports for 2015 indicate that the company is doing everything possible to eliminate the incident, does not absolve itself of responsibility, and apologizes (Blue Bell Creameries Inc., 2015a, Blue Bell Creameries Inc., 2015b, Blue Bell Creameries Inc., 2015c, Blue Bell Creameries Inc., 2015d). According to the company, in two 2016 reports, it carefully monitors production safety and does its best to ensure that the situation does not happen again (Blue Bell Creameries Inc., 2016a, Blue Bell Creameries Inc., 2016b). The remarks looked to be an attempt to repair Blue Bell’s reputation, as the company was the major source in these news reports.

Finally, both the Blue Bell Company itself and the news outlets acted according to existing similar models of coping with the crisis. Much of the content, not always explicitly, referred to support, downplay, or denial strategies. A study of a similar case with the Toyota recall revealed that the company and news outlets used different ways of reporting the situation (Do & Nham, 2021). However, current research shows that there are many similarities between Blue Bell’s response strategies and press coverage. Most likely, this result is due to the effective use of the SCCT crisis communication model, which assumes the use of adaptive strategies as part of success. Organizations in crisis can use this model, which has proven to be successful, to deal with a crisis through internal and external communication. A positive reputation and loyalty allow the company to quickly recover from the crisis and earn customers’ trust again.

Blue Bell Ethical Dilemma Case

Introduction.

According to the case, Paul Kruse faced a situation in which he had to make ethical decisions that would not adversely affect the organization’s reputation. Irrespective of how Paul Kruse handled the case, his decision and course of action did not change the fact that sanitary measures were not effectively undertaken to lead to the development of contamination in Blue Bell’s manufacturing facilities. Based on the case, there was no quick fix for the condition until the sanitary measures were well executed, and the manufacturing facilities were treated to prevent the product’s continued contamination. In addition, it was essential to repair the condensation chamber from the filler pipe, which was the leading cause of the contamination.

Another fact is that precautionary measures were not taken in Blue Bell, and the process led to the development of contamination. Among the precautionary measure included the repair of the condensation and the leaking roof, which were not taken into consideration leading to continued contamination of the ice cream produced by the company. In addition, the Listeria testing program was necessary as it would have made the management make reasonable decisions failure to which the company was doomed to cause adverse health issues. The company was doomed to experience consumer health issues if it did not maintain health and safety measures, as CDC and the Listeria testing program had already confirmed the contamination in the manufacturing plant facilities.

The last fact is that the company had to incur costs and expenses to correct the situation irrespective of whether or not the company decided to deal with the contamination. This aspect is based on the fact that the contamination was inevitable and the only way to reduce the costs and expenses was to make the necessary repairs as early as possible to prevent the development of more damage.

Evaluation and Alternative Approaches

Ethical issue 1: what decisions would you have made if you had been in kruse’s position, statement of facts.

One of the ethical issues experienced in the case is addressed in the first question of the decision point, about my decision if I were in Paul Kruse’s position. The central fact linked to the case is that the company’s manufacturing facilities were contaminated, and the only thing that would be used to solve the condition was to take strict sanitary measures and repair the condensation chamber, which was the leading cause of contamination. Kruse had complete information about what was going on in the manufacturing company before making the decision, which led to the development of adverse impacts it had on the customers. In addition, Kruse was also aware of the solution to the problem but chose to ignore the situation and moved on with selling the contaminated ice cream to the consumers.

The main theories applicable in the case are utilitarianism and deontology ethics theories. According to the utilitarianism theory, the decision-maker is concerned with the consequences of the decision (Quiambao, 2022). In this case, Kruse focused on the decision’s impact on the shareholders and the consumers if the company’s production stopped due to contamination. Based on the decision made, Kruse concentrated on the company’s continuity as he perceived that the business’s continuity would benefit all concerned. Deontology ethics is another theory that holds that some acts are morally obligatory irrespective of their consequences for human welfare (Ware, 2018). According to the theory, the decision-maker must undertake where virtue is considered the reward for the decision and let justice be done (Terziev, Koleci, & Solovev, 2020). Based on the case, it was Kruse’s duty to protect the company’s interests, which he executed as a virtue of his actions irrespective of the outcome of the decision.

According to the facts provided, the best theory that can solve the problem is utilitarianism as the examination of costs and benefits is critical. If I were in Paul Kruse’s position, I would take time to examine the source of the contamination to identify the various ways I would deal with it, even though it would mean experiencing some losses when correcting the situation. In my opinion, an evaluation of the impacts that the various courses of action would develop was critical to the case and it would lead to the development of informed decisions. Therefore, I would have considered the outcome that the decision would have for both the business and citizens who are critical stakeholders to the business’s success before making any decision.

Ethical Issue 2: Would You Have Supported or Allowed the Listeria Testing Program to Continue?

Kruse was confronted with the decision to either support or end the Listeria testing program. The central fact in the case is that the Listeria testing program had tested positive for the presence of contamination in the condensing chamber. This test proved that the decision to sell the contaminated ice cream to the customers was unethical and against human rights. On the contrary, the decision to stop the Listeria testing program would not provide evidence of contamination. This would enable the company to avoid losses if the organization’s operations were halted for health issues.

The main ethical theories applicable in such a condition is the utilitarianism and the virtue ethics theory Utilitarianism theory would provide that an individual would examine the costs and benefits of an action and make a decision that would be most beneficial (Häyry, 2020). Evaluating the decision that would benefit all the stakeholders caused the dilemma in the suspension decision for the Listeria testing program in Blue Bells. On the other hand, the virtue ethics theory is based on the perspective of the moral integrity of the person involved in the decision-making process (Roh, 2018). In this case, Kruse was torn between protecting the company’s shareholders’ interests and the customers’ rights. The decision to support or suspend the Listeria testing program directly impacted both the company’s shareholders and the health of the customers, who are also important stakeholders of the company.

The best option that addresses the issue is the virtue ethics theory. The question of health and safety is a matter of virtue and humanity therefore it should come first before the interest of the company. Therefore, the main action I would undertake in the situation would be to support the Listeria testing program, as it would enable the organization to control the level of contamination in the company’s facility. Upholding the test program would have saved the management a lot of money as they would only spent on repairing the roof and condensation chamber of the facility, which were involved in the contamination process. The contrary decision made Kruse be charged with violation of human rights and also for the company to undertake the maintenance that he avoided when suspending the testing program.

The Blue Bell case was challenging as the president faced difficult choices since the company was top-selling in the ice cream industry. Irrespective of his decision, the outcomes were bound to have significant consequences on the organization. The case provides an ethical dilemma for the president and CEO of Blue Bell as he was bound to make tough decisions to save the company and maintain its reputation. His main worry in the case was to make losses and experience production hitches when correcting the condition, which would be costly. According to the case study, Paul Kruse chose to save the company from losses at the expense of the health of its loyal customers even though Kruse avoided responsibility in the first place and ignored the entire situation. It later caught up with him as he was later charged for the case. Based on the choices that Kruse made to save the company, he acted as an agent of the company. He focused on the interests of the shareholders and the company’s reputation at the expense of the consumers’ health.

Even though it was his duty to save the company, his decision was against the customers’ human rights as it ended up killing three and causing health issues for many others. In addition, Kruse was focused on saving the company from excess spending in terms of repairing the various sections of production linked to the contamination to protect the interests of the shareholders. Instead, he ended up hurting the customers who made the company gain its profitable status. Kruse was also charged for the decision, and the company’s reputation was tainted. Such consequences would have been avoided if Kruse had made ethical decisions after assessing the impact that the decision would have on all the interested parties and made the modification before the matter worsened. After an evaluation of the case, the ethical issues involved, and the outcomes experienced after the decision, I believe that utilitarianism is the best theory of ethics that individuals, including myself, should focus on when making decisions. I consider this theory the most effective since it enables the manager to evaluate the possible outcomes of a decision even before making it.

Bluebell is a flower with a deep blue color with equally deep meanings. It can be seen as a symbol of love, peace, hope, faith, and joy. It is said that if you are lucky enough to find this flower, you will have good luck. The bluebell is often used to symbolize purity, innocence, and modesty. Wearing a bluebell wreath is believed to bring luck, happiness, and prosperity, but are there any other meanings?

Bluebell Meaning and Symbolism

Bluebell means “beautiful flower” in English. It was named after the bluebell woods near where the plant grows. The bluebell has been cultivated since ancient times, and it is believed that the first bluebells were brought to England by Roman soldiers. This pretty flower has long been associated with love, but its meaning goes far beyond romantic relationships. Wearing a bluebell wreath is believed to bring luck, especially if you place it under your pillow at night before going to bed. If you want to attract someone special, you should carry a bluebell flower around with you wherever you go.

Old Tales and Symbolism

There are countless folk tales surrounding bluebells, many of which involve the dark magic of fairies. It is believed that the forests of Bluebells are intricately woven with fairy spells, used by these mischievous creatures to catch people. If you hear a bluebell, you will be visited by an evil fairy and die shortly after that. Many believe that the fairies will lead you astray if you were to collect a bell, wandering you forever.

The bluebell has many symbols: friendship, loyalty, fidelity, and trust. If you feel like you cannot express your feelings for someone, then you should consider wearing a bluebell wreath. The most common meanings are listed below:

Everlasting love

The bluebell flower has a long history of being used by couples who want to ensure they stay together forever. Bluebells are often found growing near waterfalls, which may explain why they were once associated with water spirits. They are still popular today, but not everyone knows that the plant is poisonous.

Bluebells mean humility because they grow in wet places where water collects. They are often found growing near streams and rivers.

The bluebell is a symbol not just of love but also of gratitude. If you feel down, take some time to appreciate what you have – whether it’s a new job, a loving partner, a healthy family, or a beautiful garden and don’t forget to gift bluebells to express gratitude.

Life and Death

The bluebell is a symbol associated with death but has positive connotations like a rebirth. If you hear someone saying “bluebells” at the end of a sentence, then they may be trying to express that they are “grateful for life” or “thankful for all I have.”

What is the Cultural Significance of a Bluebell?

The bluebell has long been associated with springtime, fertility, and new life. This is because its blooms appear at a time when nature is starting to come back to life after winter. In addition to being beautiful, they are also thought to ward off evil spirits.

History and Mythology

The first mention of bells dates back to the Middle Ages. Geoffrey Chaucer, the most famous English poet, mentions garden bells in “The Canterbury Tales.” According to Roman myth, these flowers were born from a mirror that reflected only what was beautiful. Venus lost them, found by a poor shepherd, and hidden in a hut.

The goddess sent Cupid to retrieve it, but the shepherd refused to give up the magic mirror. During the struggle, the mirror fell, shattering into thousands of pieces and turning into flowers – a reflection of the beauty of the goddess. The legend is echoed by the former name of the bells – the mirrors of Venus.

Bluebell Flower Meaning in Dreams

The bluebell flower has associations with the color indigo, which is, in turn, associated with spirituality and healing . This association might explain why some people dream of bluebells.

Just In Time For Summer, Blue Bell Has A New Root Beer Float-Flavored Ice Cream

Grab a chilled mug.

essay on blue bell

Ask a Southerner about their favorite ice cream brand, and we’d wager that the majority would mention Blue Bell . Spanning generations of scoops and sundaes, the Brenham, Texas -based ice cream company has been around since 1907, with ice cream facilities in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Sylacauga, Alabama. You could say Blue Bell’s just about as Southern as it gets.

And come summer, we rely heavily on ice cream to cool down during our hot, humid days. Often using fresh fruit, like peaches, we make the nostalgic dessert from scratch or picking up a half-gallon of Blue Bell to create an impressive, patriotic party dessert like Red Velvet Ice-Cream Cake .

Last summer, fans raved over Blue Bell’s decision to team up with fellow storied Texas brand Dr Pepper for Dr Pepper Float Ice Cream —creamy vanilla ice cream swirled with an unmistakably Dr Pepper-flavored sherbet. With many requests from ice cream lovers to keep the float trend going, Blue Bell has just announced a brand-new flavor that already has us rummaging in the cupboards for a glass mug to chill.

New A&W Root Beer Float Ice Cream is a creamy vanilla ice cream swirled with an A&W Root Beer-flavored sherbet just asking to be paired with crisp, bubbly root beer and brought out to the front porch for an evening sit. The A&W Root Beer brand is also owned by Keurig Dr Pepper.

“We received many requests for an A&W Root Beer Float Ice Cream,” said John Neal Robinson, Blue Bell general sales manager. “After the huge success of Dr Pepper Float Ice Cream last year, we were ready to work together on another delicious flavor . We recommend enjoying a few scoops in a chilled mug just like your favorite root beer.”

A&W Root Beer Float Ice Cream is now available in stores across the South wherever Blue Bell is sold, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. (And if you can’t find it at a store near you, Blue Bell can also ship it right to your door.) Root beer lovers can pick up this creamy new flavor in both half-gallon and pint sizes through 2025.

We can’t wait to try this refreshing summer flavor.

CASE SUMMARY

Blue Bell Construction Sdn Bhd, is a subsidiary of Blue Bell Pte Ltd f Singapore, a firm that invested in Malaysia to undertake activities like construction of townships, factories, bridges, dams and roads. Recently, Blue Bell Construction Sdn Bhd is now on construction to build a steel factory in Banting, Klang. This company has several projects in hand and it is running short of staff. Mr Chew Eng Kee, the regional manager of Blue Bell Construction Sdn Bhd requested the Head Quarters in Singapore to send some expatriates with experience to oversee development as Project Directors. Mr Bobson, South East Asia Regional Director of that company had called Mr Richard White who has specialised in engineering with eight years’ working experience to take up the project of construct a steel industry. Mr Richard willing to take up the challenge plus he really like to experience the lifestyle of Malaysia. One day, on the process of clearing work at site, Rosli came to Mr Richard said that the workers are now stopping their work. It is because of a huge tree at the site and the workers believe that there is some ‘superpower’ living inside the tree. The workers now does not want to continue their work until the company does something to send away the ‘superpower’ from the tree. Mr Richard does not believe in superstition and now he is in dilemma where he would like to complete the land clearing work and on the other, the workers are not willing to do so until there is a ‘bomoh’ come to send away the ‘superpower’ in the tree.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

The main problem for this case is workers did not want to continue the job because have ‘superpower’ on the tree at the site. Mr Richard dilemma after know about the problem at the site after Rosli told about ‘superpower’ on the tree and history before this.   Mr Richard has an ego to accept about ‘super power’ in front his worker to admit and take the suggestion by Rosli to call the shaman. Now, Mr Richard facing two important matter either to complete his work according schedule or late accomplish his work. He must give the decision to solve this problem to make sure all work going smoothly and everybody safe.

Did not have experience or knowledge about culture and believe at Malaysia

This is because Mr Richard come from different culture and believe. He still did not know about the culture and believe at Malaysia because he newly arrived and did not have experiences working at the east country. He come from western country and the gap about superpower are very big. Usually western country did not trust about ‘superpower’ because they are more educated and theoretical person.

How Mr Richard increase confident and brave on his workers

Some of the worker did not confident and brave to cut the tree because mind set of them about the ‘superpower’. Mr Richard must increase knowledge about local culture/believe and also change his mind to adapt new environment. For this case, if Mr Richard can take some advice from local worker about new environment at there and the result can make Mr Richard more fit to understand surrounding him. Mr Richard appoint his assistant to handle every problem arise regarding about culture or believe.

ALTERNATIVE STRATEGY

  • Giving reward to the worker

The first strategy is giving reward to the worker that could be used to settle up the case. This is because reward would influence their motivation to do something or work until finish it in goods, when they do work until done there are benefit or reward for them. There are many example of reward that been used to solve problems such as Richard give reward RM1000 for those who could cut down the tree until finish as good as they can do and make some offer of advancement in the company. In fact, giving reward is one of the factors can increase motivation of worker to work, increase their skill and attract the worker to be better than others and mostly company are use reward to motivate theirs worker. If someone getting offer the high pay of the work they would getting interested in that job, and they would do the best for getting the job within fulfil the qualification to get the offer. In addition, nowadays everything we are using money to buy something that necessary or demand thing. This strategy can attract them to finish up their work because there are benefit for them.

  • Study the ritual culture.

Study the ritual culture is second strategy that could be used in this case. This is because every place, every culture had their own ritual culture it believed from their great-grandparent’s trust. This ritual culture keep sharing until now with the story from their parent about their culture, to keep their children know about their culture and believer. Every ritual culture had positive attribute that could apply nowadays. For the example, when someone are get in the jungle, they cannot plucking something from the plants. It because there are guard of the jungle and it could make the guard of jungle getting angry. But the positive from this ritual is keeps the jungle in safe and keep the nature of the jungle. So when Richard studied about the ritual culture can understand the situation that happen at their company. In addition, Richard is foreigner in the company and he do not know about the culture and ritual culture of Malaysia. It effect on Richard when he heard about the situation happen become confuse and do not know what to do. This is first experienced of him working in Malaysia after working in Singapore. Once the Richard understand about the culture and ritual culture of Malaysia, he would be more skilful to manage his employee in  good condition and achieved the company goals easily.

  • Workplace safety training to employee

The last strategy is workplace safety training to employee. Every company make safety training to their worker. This is because safety is number one in company because every task that the worker do have bad effect if make a mistakes. In addition if the worker do work using machine or danger machine would provide the safety attire and safety guide to them before they start work. In this case the worker do not want to do the job because there are bad history happen before and influence their motivation to do work. Richard had given addition safety training to the worker to do work in more safety and increase their level of safety. For the example, before the worker cut down the tree the supervisor give advised and explain how to use the machine in correct ways. So when the worker gets knowledge more about the safety, the worker do not afraid to work. Bad history that had been happen before, maybe there are some mistakes happen when they did the work and it causing the accident occurred.
