On the Eid, many people start prayers, offer charity for the poor, do social gathering at Mosque, make festival meals, and offer gifts to the family members and relatives.

What is Ramadan?

Ramadan is also called Ramazan, and it has several names in various languages across the world. The Ramadan is the ninth month, according to the Islamic calendar. The Muslims celebrate this month across the world. The Month of Ramadan is regarded as five pillars of Islam and lasts nine to thirty days from one sighting the crescent moon to the next. Muslims light up the Mosques, and various praying places across the city. In Java islands, many people believe in bathing in the holy sprinkle water as the ritual is called Paduan. Every day before the sunrise, Muslims across the world have a pre-fast meal which is called Suhoor. After these meals, the Muslims have their first prayer every day in the month of Ramadan. The meal of sunsets is called Iftar. Muslims are very devoted to praying four to five times a day in this month and over the year. Iftar After having iftar Muslims avoid having food and water for the complete day. Iftar consists of water, juices, dates, salads, and various dishes, which are considered as a part of the meal. Various dishes like lamb stewed, lamb kebabs with grilled vegetables, and roasted chicken and various chicken dishes are made. Muslims read the holy Quran, which consists of 30 (thirty) section. Some Muslims read one section per day in the holy month of Ramadan. The standard greeting is Ramadan Mubarak and Ramadan Kareem.

It also helps improving blood circulation and get rid of all harmful toxins in the body. One of the main benefits of fasting is weight loss. Due to this, the fat and cholesterol are reduced. It also reduces many heart and gastric problems. In the fasting, the stored fat in the body gets burn so we don’t feel hungry. It helps us to heal the body and increases the metabolism and immune system.

The fasting helps the liver’s enzymes to break down the cholesterol into fats by using bile juice. Fasting helps us to increase the performance of the heart. Due to the lower cholesterol, the heart becomes very healthy. It helps a diabetic person by stabling the sugar level in the body. During the fasting, the body is filled by the endorphins, which help to feel fit. The fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam, and fasting in the month of Ramadan is compulsory for Muslims. However, it is restricted to fast on the Eid-ul-Fitr day. During the Ramadan, it is necessary to have a proper sleep and low-stress levels.

Muslims observe fast, offers regular prayers in the form of “ Namaz “, read the holy book Quran, give alms to poor and serve food to others.

Charity is also done in this month. According to islamic beleif everyone should give some percentage of their income in the form of “Zakat” or “Sadqa” to the needy people and to the society for the welfare of the society. That is why this month is known as a holy month.

When the new moon of Eid is sighted everyone says “Chand Mubarak” and the preparation are started for the next day. Girls put Mehendi on their hand. They decorate their houses for Eid Celebration.

On the Eid day, people get up early in the morning. They take bath and wear new dresses and man visits to open ground or mosque to offer prayers in the form of “Namaz” meanwhile Woman starts preparing food at the house.

After Eid namaz people embrace one another and exchange Eid greeting.

Everybody says “Eid Mubarak” or “Happy Eid” to one another. Everybody goes to the houses of their relatives and friends to meet them.

The special dish that is prepared on Eid is “Sewain” and “Shirkurma” that is offered to everyone who came to the house for celebration.

Every Youngers get “Eidi” and gift from their elders. In this way the whole day the celebration goes on.

In some places Eid fair are also organized for the celebration where everybody enjoy a lots.

Eid is the festival of joy and celebration. After whole month of fasting and prayers every Muslim celebrates this day in the hope that “Allah” had accepted their “Namaz”, fasting and good virtues.

Allah will fulfill every offers and prayers they have done in this month.

It is also a festival of brotherhood. Every People of various religion celebrates it. Everyone goes to their friend’s house for celebration.

Seasonal festivals are celebrated at the beginning of a particular season such as spring or summer, in praise and gratitude of nature and its gifts towards us. Then there are religious festivals. These are particular to a religious group such as Christmas, Diwali, Eid, Hanukkah. Although specific to their respective religions, these festivals are celebrated by people of other religions as well, to celebrate the common message of peace and harmony that these festivals represent.

In this essay, we will be discussing Eid, the festival celebrated by Muslims all over the world:

Eid is an Islamic festival celebrated by all Muslims of the world in the gratitude and remembrance of God. Eid is actually a term for two festivals celebrated twice a year. These two festivals are Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha.

Eid-ul-Fitr

Eid-ul-Fitr is the first of the two festivals in the Muslim calendar. It is celebrated at the end of Ramadan, the holy month in the Muslim calendar. Muslims observe Ramadan to remember the revelation of their holy book, the Quran to their last prophet, Prophet Muhammad.

Ramadan is the month during which muslims observe fast from sunrise to sunset, not eating or drinking till the evening call for prayer.

Eid-ul-Fitr calls for breaking of the sunrise-to-sunset fast and is celebrated with great happiness and through cooking of a wide variety of dishes. There is no specific date set from the beginning as the celebration of the festival is dependent on sighting the crescent moon.

During the month of Ramadan, people reflect upon themselves and upon the message that God sends in the Quran. Most of the time is spent in prayer.

Eid-ul-Fitr is an expression of gratitude for the previous month.The month of fasting and the festival that follows is a reminder for all muslims to be grateful for the things they have and to share what they have with others who might not have enough to fulfil their needs.

This Eid is started with an obligatory prayer and donations given to the poor and needy.

Gifts are exchanged with one another. Children especially receive gifts in the form of money. People pay visits to family and friends.

Although meat based dishes are the main attraction, Eid-ul-Fitr often sees a variety of sweet dishes and desserts being cooked. In South Asian countries such as India, a sweet dish called seviyan is quite popular with both muslims as well as their friends from other religions.

Eid-ul-Adha

Eid-ul-Adha comes after Eid-ul-Fitr and is second in importance to the previous festival. This festival marks the celebration of the prophet Ibrahim’s devotion and sacrifice to God. Muslims come together for three days to honour the prophet’s sacrifice by giving gifts, making a sacrifice and feasting. Eid-ul-Adha also marks the end of Hajj , the pilgrimage that many muslims undertake every year. This pilgrimage takes muslims to the city of Mecca, in Saudi Arabia. People spend their time in prayer and the recitation of the Quran.

Muslims on this day offer an animal in sacrifice, often a sheep or a goat or a camel to mark their prophet’s sacrifice in the name of God. Portions of this sacrifice are reserved for family, friends and the poor. The meat is divided and distributed.

It is made sure that everyone is able to have food and eat. That’s why the sacrifice and the distribution of the meat. It is a sign and importance on this day to share meals with one’s family and to eat together.

This Eid, like the one before, is marked by prayers, cooking a variety of dishes, and dressing up. Women and little girls apply henna on their hands.

The common greeting for both these festivals is a cheerful “Eid Mubarak”.

Like other festivals celebrated in the world, Eid brings with itself a message of joy and harmony. It brings people together in gratitude and forgiveness. Above all, it teaches the values of sharing and playing a role in providing for others. Creating a sense of equality, the festival makes sure that no one in a community is left out.

عید کے معنی خوشی کے ہیں۔یہ خوشی کا تہوار ہے جو مسلمان مناتے ہیں۔عیدیں سال میں دو ہیں، عید الفطر اور عید الضحیٰ۔

وہ عید ہے جو رمضان کے روزوں کے خاتمے پر منائی جاتی ہے۔فطر کے معنی ہیں کھولنا۔اس لئے جب ماہ رمضان کے تیس روزے ختم ہو جاتے ہیں تو ماہ شوال کی پہلی تاریخ کو روزے کھول دیے جاتے ہیں اور عید منائی جاتی ہے۔اس عید پر اہل اسلام اس بات کے لیے اللہ پاک کا شکر ادا کرتے ہیں کہ ان کے روزے بخریت انجام پائے اور انہوں نے عبادت کرکے خدا تعالیٰ کی رضامندی حاصل کی۔رمضان کے آخری دن شام کو ہلالِ عید دکھائی دیتا ہے تو اس کا اعلان نقاروں کو بجا کر کیا جاتا ہے۔اور لوگ خوشی سے پھولے نہیں سماتے ایک دوسرے کو عید مبارک کہتے ہیں۔اگلی صبح عمدہ کھانے خاص طور پر سویاں تیار کی جاتی ہیں۔اس دن ہر کمانے والا بالغ مسلمان اپنی اور اپنے اہل و عیال کی طرف سے صدقہ فطر غریبوں اور محتاجوں کو دیتا ہے۔

روزہ رکھنے سے مسلمان پر یہ بخوبی ظاہر ہوجاتا ہے کہ فاقہ کش کی حالت کیا ہوتی ہے۔اسی لیے وہ عید الفطر پر مسکینوں اور ناداروں میں حسب توفیق نقد و جنس خیرات کے طور پر تقسیم کرتا ہے اور خدا تعالیٰ کا شکر بجا لاتا ہے کہ یارب تو نے مجھے مفلسی اور فاقہ کشی سے بچایا۔میں تیرا صدق دل سے شکرگزار ہوں۔ روزہ سے روزہ دار کا دل اور جسم دونوں پاک ہو جاتے ہیں۔

عید کے دن مسلمان صاف ستھرے کپڑے پہنتے ہیں اور عید گاہ یا جامع مسجد میں جاکر نماز عید پڑھتے ہیں۔اس کے بعد وہ اپنے رشتہ داروں، دوستوں اور عزیزوں کی ملاقات کو جاتے ہیں۔خوشی سے ایک دوسرے کے گلے ملتے ہیں، دعوتیں کرتے ہیں،اور صدقہ و خیرات دیتے ہیں۔غریبوں محتاجوں کو کھانا کھلاتے ہیں،احباب کو تحفے بھی پیش کیے جاتے ہیں کئی جگہ میلے بھی لگتے ہیں اور خوب رونق ہوتی ہے۔

دوسری عید جس کا نام عید الاضحٰی ہے ماہ ذی الحج کی دسویں تاریخ کو منائ جاتی ہے۔یہ عیدالفطر کے دو ماہ اور دس دن بعد آتی ہے۔اس سے ایک دن پہلے تمام دنیا کے صاحب توفیق لاکھوں مسلمان مکہ معظمہ میں حج کا فریضہ ادا کرتے ہیں اور وہیں عید کا دن بھی مناتے ہیں۔اس عید کے دن مسلمان بھیڑ، بکری یا اونٹ وغیرہ کی قربانی کرتے ہیں۔اسی لیے اس عید کو عید قرباں، یا بقرعید، یا عیدالاضحیٰ کہتے ہیں۔”اضحیٰ” کے معنی ہیں قربانی۔در حقیقت یہ عید حضرت ابراہیم علیہ سلام کی قربانی کی یاد میں منائی جاتی ہے۔

کہتے ہیں کہ ایک رات حضرت ابراہیم علیہ السلام نے خواب میں دیکھا کہ میں خدا کے حکم سے اپنے بیٹے اسماعیل علیہ السلام کو قربان کر رہا ہوں۔صبح ہوئی تو انہوں نے یہ خواب اپنے بیٹے سے بیان کیا۔ بیٹے نے عرض کی”آپ کا خواب سچا ہے آپ خدا تعالیٰ کا حکم بجا لائیں اور مجھے قربان کردیں تاکہ خداوند تعالی کی رضا حاصل ہو” اس پر حضرت ابراہیم علیہ السلام نے اپنے بیٹے اسماعیل علیہ السلام کو منہ کے بل لٹایا اور ذبح کرنے پر آمادہ ہوئے۔دو بار ذبح کرنے میں ناکام ہوئے تیسری بار جب بیٹے کی گردن پر وار کرنے والے ہی تھے تو غیب سے آواز آئی”اے ابراہیم یہ تو محض تیرا امتحان تھا اور تو اس امتحان میں پورا اترا ہے اس لیے اپنے بیٹے کو ذبح نہ کر”عین اسی وقت ایک دنبہ عالم غائب سے نمودار ہوا اور حضرت ابراہیم علیہ سلام نے اسے قربان کیا۔اسی قربانی کی یاد میں اہل اسلام قربانی کرتے ہیں اور خوشی مناتے ہیں اور ہر سال حضرت ابراہیم علیہ سلام کی قربانی کی یاد کو تازہ کرتے ہیں۔

یہ دونوں عیدیں مسلمانوں کے خوشی کے تہوار ہیں۔عیدالفطر تو رمضان کے مہینے کی روزہ داری کا فریضہ بخوبی انجام دینے کی خوشی میں منائی جاتی ہے اور عیدالاضحیٰ حج کے فریضہ کی ادائیگی کے شکرانے میں حضرت ابراہیم علیہ السلام کی قربانی کی یاد میں منائی جاتی ہے۔دونوں عیدوں کے موقع پر نماز عید کا جامع مسجد یا عید گاہ میں جماعت کے ساتھ پڑھنا ہر مسلمان پر واجب ہے۔اس کا ایک مقصد یہ بھی ہے کہ اس موقع پر زیادہ سے زیادہ برادران اسلام ایک جگہ اکٹھے ہوکر باہمی اتحاد اور الفت کا ثبوت دیتے ہیں۔
