But lately, a lot of Google Meet users have reported trouble while using the Google Meet presentation feature that is just downright frustrating and defeats the whole purpose of using a Workstream Collaboration app.

Apparently, a lot of users are facing trouble in Google Meet presentations where the microphone would mute or stop working as soon as users switch to the presentation mode. There’s probably a bug somewhere in the system that Google developers will hopefully rectify pretty soon.

But until then, when you find yourself in this situation the next time, try this simple fix. Reset your microphone permissions for Google Meet in your browser and it should make the problem disappear. Almost like magic!

To reset your microphone permissions in a browser, let’s say, Google Chrome, click on the ‘lock’ icon on the left side of the Address Bar, and from the context menu, go to the drop-down menu next to the ‘Microphone’ option.

The browser would ask you to reload the page to apply the settings. Click on ‘Reload’ and re-join the meeting.

Google Meet has become the go-to platform for anyone who is working or studying from home amid the COVID-19 pandemic. While working from home has its merits, we are at the mercy of the technology to connect and share with our colleagues.

One common issue faced by Google Meet users is that they can’t share audio along with the video. The video you present will be played without any sound by default which puts users in a rather frustrating situation.

Luckily there are ways you can bypass this issue and play the video with sound in Google Meet. And I am going to tell you about not one but two ways to share video with audio in Google Meet, read on to find out.

Method #1: Present a Google Chrome Tab

This is the official solution to share audio with the video made available by Google itself. You can use the Present a Chrome Tab option to present an online video and audio to other participants of a Google Meet.

While the official announcement from the Google team stated that only G Suite users can access this feature, it appears to be working fine for regular Google accounts.

The basic benefit of this feature is that you can present a single Chrome tab that you have selected to the attendees of a meeting. However, you can switch between tabs to select a different tab at any moment.

You can follow these simple steps to present a video and audio combination to your Google Meet attendees:

Step 1. Join a Google Meet or start a new Meet.

Step 2. Click on the Present Now button that usually sits at the bottom of the screen.

Step 3. Click on Choose A Tab option from the next menu and you will be taken to a list of current Chrome Tabs.

Step 4. Choose the tab containing the video you want to present and then click on the Share button at the bottom of the window.

Chrome will inform you that you are currently sharing a tab with Google Meet attendees.

Switching shared tabs

You can switch the tab you are currently sharing during Google Meet through these steps:

Step 1. Open the tab you want to switch to from the currently shared Chrome tab.

Step 2. Locate the prompt at the top of the page that says “Share this tab instead” and click on it.

Confirm that you are now presenting the tab you had selected from the prompt.

Method #2: Adjust your Windows 10 microphone settings

One way to share video and audio at the same time in Google Meet is by tweaking your Windows 10 microphone settings. You can do that with the help of these steps:

Step 1. Open the start menu and click on the Setting options.

Step 2. Open System settings and then click on the Sound option in the left panel.

Step 3. Click on Manage sound devices and find input devices.

Step 4. Enable the Stereo Mix option and while you are at it make sure that the microphone option is available along with the Stereo Mix option.

Step 5. Now go to Google Meet and click on settings, open the audio option and set the Stereo Mix as your default microphone.

Play the video you want to present, and your Google Meet participants should be able to hear the audio from the video you are playing.

Bonus method: Use your mobile device to share audio

There is another option to share audio along with the video by using your mobile phone’s mic to talk while the video is being played through your PC.

However, this feature is currently available for Google Workplace hosts only and normal users can’t access it. All you have to do is select the “Use a phone for audio” feature available to Google Workplace hosts and your phone will now serve as a mic so you can speak through it while presenting a video from your PC.

How can I stop presenting in Google Meet?

Once you have finished presenting the video or Chrome tab in Google Meet you will eventually have to stop presenting it. Stopping your presentation is easy and all you have to do is this:

Step 1. Find the You are presenting button at the bottom of the screen and click on it.

Step 2. Click on the stop presenting option to stop your presentation.

While Google Meet is a powerful tool, it still lacks some functionalities, such as the inability to share audio along with your videos. However, using the solutions I have shared with you in this article, you can easily overcome this issue and present clear audio with your videos.

My personal favorite is the share a tab method as it doesn’t require making any changes to settings and doesn’t require a special type of account to use.

Google Meet is a video-conferencing service designed for businesses and organizations.
Google recently integrated its Gemini AI tool into Google Meet for enhanced visual effects.
Google Meet offers features like recording a meeting, blurring your background, and companion mode.

Google Meet, formerly known as Google Hangouts Meet, is a video-calling app that lets people come together in virtual meetings. As few as two or as many as 100 participants can join the same meeting and can speak, communicate via chat, or share video with each other from anywhere with internet access.

Google designed the platform primarily for businesses and other organizations, and it's a great way for colleagues who don't work in the same location to communicate. It can also be used as a video platform connecting friends and family, of course.

A Google Meet organizer can share whatever is on their screen with everyone on a call, and any participant can turn their own audio and/or video feed off at any time, participating however they choose. Google's Gemini AI has also enhanced the service, including visual effects to fix low video quality and lighting issues and translated captions for participants with language barriers.

Like other video-conferencing platforms, Google Meet exploded in popularity during the pandemic. Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced in April 2020 that Google Meet was adding roughly 3 million users every single day.

Here's what you need to know about how to use the platform:

How much Google Meet costs

Google Meet has a free tier that lets anyone with a Google account create or join a call — but there are some limitations. Group meetings can't exceed 60 minutes and can't have more than 100 participants (one-on-one meetings and mobile calls have no time limit).

But Google offers pricing plans for organizations or individuals who need more flexibility with their meetings.

Google Workspace has a few different membership tiers, and the more you pay, the more people you can have on a single Google Meet call.

Business Starter costs $6 a month per user. It allows you to meet with up to 100 people at once for up to 24 hours.
Business Standard costs $12 a month per user. You can meet with up to 150 people at once.
Business Plus costs $18 a month per user. With this, you can meet with up to 500 people at once.
Enterprise has no fixed price and requires you to contact sales. At this level, you can meet with up to 1,000 people at once.

Each Google Workspace tier also comes with extra Google Drive storage space and advanced data security options. There are also versions built for schools and educators, which Google offers for free to certain institutions. Google Meet is also integrated into Google Classroom , Google's online education platform.

How to join a Google Meet call

You join a Google Meet session by using a code that's created when the event organizer schedules the meeting.

On both the Meet mobile app and on a computer, simply pull up Google Meet and click or tap "Use a meeting code" (it may say "Enter a meeting code" on mobile). Once your code is in, provided the session has started, you'll enter the call and can begin talking with your team.

You can also access Google Meet calls through Google Calendar , if the organizer has created a link for the meeting within the event. Simply click on the event and click Join with Google Meet .

The creator of the meeting can also send out a direct link, which you just have to click once to join the meeting.

Just remember that you need to allow Google Meet to access your phone or computer's camera and microphone when you set it up, or the program won't function properly.

Using Google Meet's features

Once you are in a Google Meet meeting, there are various features you can make use of to enhance the experience. One basic but highly useful feature is recording, which can preserve the video and audio for later review.

How to record a Google Meet

To record a Google Meet session (assuming you're not the host), first request co-host access. Then, while the meeting is ongoing, at the bottom right corner of the screen, click Activities , then click on Recording on the activities panel that opens.

Then hit the Start recording button and that's it — you can stop any time back in the activities panel or just wait for it to end. You will be emailed a link to the recording after the session ends.

How to blur Google Meet background

To keep your home or workspace private or to add a bit of fun to a Google Meet session, you can blur the background behind you in Google Meet.

Before joining the meeting or as soon as it begins, click Apply visual effects below your view of yourself.
Then hit the Backgrounds tab and click Slightly blur or Blur , the outcomes here being self-explanatory.

To upload a custom background — say a mountain or city scene — hit "Upload +" and then find the image you want to use on your computer.

Google Meet Companion mode

Designed for hybrid meetings where some people are together in a room and some are remote, Companion mode lets you use your laptop to access all the features the remote participants enjoy — such as commenting, raising a hand, and sharing links — but it turns off your computer's sound, so there are no feedback loops created.

You keep using the AV hardware in the room for audio and visuals, but you have the full suite of Google Meet features at your disposal.

To use Companion mode, join the meeting via your computer, then click Other joining options . Next, hit Companion mode and then click Check in .

Google Meet rolling out ability to temporarily unmute yourself with the spacebar

A new Google Workspace update is rolling out that will allow you to unmute yourself using your keyboard’s spacebar during a Google Meet . Having this capability will make it a lot easier for users to quickly unmute themselves without fumbling around for the mute button on the screen. Of course, users will still be required to mute using the mute button, but unmuting temporarily will be as easy as just holding down the spacebar.

The feature works by temporarily holding down the spacebar during a meeting to be unmuted, then releasing the spacebar to go back to being muted . This ensures that you remain muted throughout the meeting, except during the times that you wish to participate, even if you forget to mute yourself again. This is considered an accessibility setting and joins the rest of the keyboard shortcuts available to control features within Google Meet.

Initially, this feature will be off by default but can be enabled in the Google Meet settings. It will begin to roll out to Rapid and Scheduled Release domains on September 9, 2022 , and will take about two weeks to reach everyone. All Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google Accounts will be able to take advantage of it on all web browsers , which is great news.
