Terra created unique and exclusive partnership with the Gerace Research Center (GRC) in San Salvador, Bahamas to offer marine biology research opportunities for high school teachers and students.

The GRC is a center of studies for marine biology, geology, and archaeology located on the island of San Salvador, approximately an hour and a half flight from Miami. Typically, the center caters to undergraduate programs and research, but in cooperation with Terra will now be actively working with high school groups to offer a unique research experience.

This is a two-step program for US Schools: Initially, the teachers are trained by completing the actual program themselves. Later, Terra will help teachers who complete the training set up research trips to the Bahamas for their own students. Teachers trained by Terra may bring students every year from their schools. Terra may provide additional guides to teacher-led student trips if requested. All trips entail extensive snorkeling in Bahamian reefs as well as other scientific and cultural activities. Terra will schedule the program with GRC and book the flights from US to the GRC site.

Teachers’ Bahamas Trip Training Program

Bahamas research trips involve two steps: the teachers themselves complete the actual program so that they are prepared for the step two: leading students through the program.

  • A guide to booking and setting up the trip with Terra
  • Training and materials to recruit students
  • Guidance and materials to teach an academic program
  • Twice daily snorkeling trips to select sites on the island
  • Cultural experiences
  • Round Trip airfare to San Salvador, Bahamas. (From one of the major US airports, such as JFK, Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, Dulles, or Philadelphia. Additional fee may apply if flying from another airport within US. Terra may not cover the cost of rebooking flights if there are flight cancellations.
  • Room and Board while on the San Salvador island (it will be shared room)
  • GRC-sponsored limited accident and sickness insurance (with $25 copay)
  • Terra sponsored liability insurance
  • Suggested materials to use in recruitment, pre-trip orientation for families and students
  • Academic materials to use while on the island
  • Certificate of Completion for in-service credit and possible reimbursement from the school district. (Terra will accept payment from school districts, including PO).

OUR HISTORY

The Cancer Society of The Bahamas was formed in 1976 by Mrs. Susan K. Roberts, wife of the late Noel Sawyer Roberts, on the medical advice of Dr. John Lunn, Medical Oncologist of Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH), Nassau, Bahamas.

On November 30th, 1979 Parliament approved the business license for the Cancer Society of The Bahamas as a Non-Profit Organization (see The Companies Act: Chapter 184 Section 59).

  • Mrs. Susan Roberts – Chairperson
  • Mrs. Susan Andrews – Secretary
  • Mr. Walter Wells -Treasurer
  • Mrs. Yolanda Roberts – Fundraising Co-Chairperson
  • Mrs. Francise Christie – Fundraising Co-Chairperson
  • Ms. Patricia “Patsy” Lightbourne – Fundraising Co-Chairperson

In 1980 with the support and donations of businesses, corporations, organizations, churches, civic groups, the private sector and the Fundraising Committee, the Cancer Society of The Bahamas was able to donate a much needed fibre-optic bronchoscope to the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) Nassau, Bahamas. The bronchoscope is made of a flexible fiber-optic material and has a light source and a camera on the end which is used to examine your airways to detect the cause of breathing difficulties and lung problems, such as tumors, infection, and bleeding. In that same year, 23 years old Ms. Judy Ann Ward was given a two-year scholarship in the field of Cytotechnology at the University of Miami’s School of Medicine.

Ten years later in May 1990, by Proclamation from the Prime Minister, The Right Honorable Sir Lynden O. Pindling, of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, established that the month of “May “be observed as “ Cancer Awareness Month“ in The Bahamas. To this day, the Cancer Society use this month to bring awareness to all types of cancer through various media outlets and educational and social events concluding with our signature Annual Gala Ball.

The Cancer Society accomplishes this mandate through awareness programs such as; extensive cancer educational activities and programs, healthy lifestyle seminars and literature, promotions and media saturation, Free Breast Screening and PAP Smear clinics, as well as Prostate exams and PSA Testing for men throughout the islands of the Bahamas. To date, the general public is strongly urged to support the continued awareness campaign of early detection and prevention saves lives.

On September 13, 1991, after a 12-year plea, the Cancer Society of the Bahamas headed by its President at that time, Mrs. Pamela Burnside, was instrumental in urging the Government of the Bahamas and the Managing authority of the Princess Margaret Hospital in establishing the first ever medical unit for cancer patients at the Princess Margaret Hospital, known as the Oncology Clinic. This unit was founded in “memory of” the late Dr. Ivor Fix of Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami, Florida, USA, who worked with cancer patients at PMH in Nassau, Bahamas. The purpose of the unit, which is still in operation today, is to treat persons afflicted with cancer.

To further facilitate this new Oncology unit, the Cancer Society donated the first radiographic mammogram machine in the entire Bahamas through extensive fund-raising efforts. This machine which at the time cost over $50,000 was a milestone in the fight against cancer for the Bahamian people. It must be stated that a lot of souse was sold to make this dream a reality.

Other items that were donated to the Oncology Clinic by the Cancer Society in order to meet the demands and safety requirements of Cancer care were; a “protective hood” which is used for the safe mixing of cancer drugs, as well as venous access devises such as port-a-cathsto facilitate safer, more effective chemotherapy treatments.

Over the years the Cancer Society saw the increasing need for skilled staffing at the Oncology Clinic and therefore provided scholarships which were awarded to Bahamians to study Oncology Nursing and conduct researches abroad.

August 2004, the Cancer Society of The Bahamas accomplished another major milestone by completing the construction of the Cancer Caring Centre , which is an extension of the Cancer Society services offered to the Bahamian public. The Cancer Caring Centre (CCC) is the first facility of its kind in The Bahamas providing temporary accommodations free of charge to Bahamians from the Family Islands undergoing active cancer treatments in Nassau. The Cancer Society recognized the importance of this facility to not only meet the housing requirements of cancer patients but also to provide social and emotional needs in a peaceful, secure and supportive environment. This dream became reality through the overwhelming assistance of so many persons and organizations in the community.

To expand the reach of the organization and provide local assistance to the residents of the Family Islands, Branches of the Cancer Society of The Bahamas were then established, each with their own Executive Committee. READ MORE ON CSOB BRANCHES .

Why Siyata Mobile Stock Is Moving

Zinger key points.

  • Siyata Mobile says the Baha Mar resort in Nassau, Bahamas is now using hundreds of SD7 handsets and accessories.
  • Siyata introduces the SD7 Wired Palm Mic Pro with AI Noise Cancellation for use with the company's SD7 Handset.

Siyata Mobile, Inc. SYTA shares are moving on heavy trading volume Wednesday after the company announced the expansion of its SD7 rollout at Baha Mar Resort.

The Details:

Siyata Mobile said the Baha Mar resort in Nassau, Bahamas is using hundreds of SD7 handsets and accessories to extend usage of the devices across the property.

“We delivered the Baha Mar Resort its first SD7 handsets and accessories more than a year ago to replace two-way radios used primarily by the resort’s security team. Given the success they are experiencing, they have ordered additional units to be deployed across the property for use by staff in valet and bellman services, engineering, the water park, beach, pool, lobbies and other public areas," commented Marc Seelenfreund , CEO of Siyata.

On Tuesday, Siyata introduced the SD7 Wired Palm Mic Pro with AI Noise Cancellation for use with the company’s SD7 Handset designed for workers in noisy environments to communicate more clearly.

“The Wired Palm Mic Pro with AI Noise Cancellation is the first AI-based RSM allowing first responders and enterprise customers to communicate more clearly in loud environments. We are confident that this product will be a game changer in this large-scale market and look forward to launching additional innovations in 2024,” said Seelenfreund.

Siyata shares are moving on heavy trading volume Wednesday with more than 42.5 million shares already traded in the session. According to data from Benzinga Pro , the stock’s 100-day average volume is less than 135,000 shares.

SYTA Stock Prediction 2024:

Equity research analysts on and off Wall Street typically use earnings growth and fundamental research as a form of valuation and forecasting. But many in trading turn to technical analysis as a way to form predictive models for share price trajectory.

Some investors look to trends to help forecast where they believe a stock could trade at a certain point in the future. Looking at Siyata Mobile, an investor could make an assessment about a stock's long term prospects using a moving average and trend line. If they believe a stock will remain above the moving average, which many believe is a bullish signal, they can extrapolate that trend into the future using a trend line. For Siyata Mobile, the 200-day moving average sits at $7.84, according to Benzinga Pro , which is above the current price of $2.69. For more on charts and trend lines, see a description here.

Traders believe that when a stock is above its moving average, it is a generally bullish signal, and when it crosses below, it is a more negative signal. Investors could use trend lines to make an educated guess about where a stock could trade at a later date if conditions remain stable.

SYTA Price Action: According to Benzinga Pro , Siyata Mobile shares are up 8.33% at $2.60 at the time of publication Wednesday.

In 1972, Sir Franklyn was elected to Parliament – one of the youngest persons to have ever been elected. He has served as Chairman of The Council of the College of The Bahamas (COB) which has commenced plans to operate the Franklyn Wilson Graduate School of Business; as the founding Chairman of each of The Bahamas Chapter of The Young President’s Organization (YPO) and the World President’s Organization (WPO).

In 1979, Sir Franklyn founded the Bahamas chapter of Junior Achievement, a non-profit organization that educates young people around the world about free enterprise. He served as chairman for 10 years.

Sir Franklyn was the founding Chairman of Junior Achievement Bahamas and, for nearly 10 years, served as a Director of Junior Achievement Worldwide; and as a Trustee of Elmira College at Elmira, New York.

Several national trade unions, including the country’s largest, have honored him for his role in the advancement of the overall labor movement. He has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from St. Barnabas (Anglican/Episcopal) Church, and has been awarded a “Global Trumpet Award” by the Trumpet Foundation based in Atlanta.

His wife, Sharon Lady Wilson, is an attorney by profession and is the former President of The Senate of The Bahamas.

University of The Bahamas – Private Giving

From 2002-2007 Sir Franklyn Wilson served as Chairman of the Council, College of The Bahamas (COB).

During his tenure, Sir Franklyn made invaluable contributions to the advancement of the College in general, and to creating a new leadership culture at the College. Under his leadership the Michael H. Eldon Building was purchased, along with the gifting of 50 acres of property in East Grand Bahama, the site of the Northern Bahamas Campus.

In June 2003, on the occasion of the College of The Bahamas Commencement Exercise, Sir Franklyn announced the establishment of an endowment fund commemorating his beloved brother, Stanley Wilson. The name of the award is the Stanley Wilson Award for Excellence in Research.

This award was created for the expressed purpose of facilitating the implementation of an award for excellence in research and to assist in motivating College of The Bahamas personnel to engage in meaningful research.

Consistent with this pronouncement, COB’s strategic plan also addresses, in various sections, the importance of research and ways of promoting, recognizing and rewarding work in this area.

Sir Franklyn has played a significant role in the college’s transition to not just a university, buta credible tertiary institution. In addition to charting a course to take COB to the next level, he oversaw the selection process for the new president, was instrumental in personally providing and securing funding for many projects and led the charge to increase green spaces on the Oakes Field campus.

The Wilsons funded the endowment with a donation of $50,000, which to this day has benefited the hard work of numerous select published university professors where the recognition traditionally has taken place around the university’s commencement exercises.

The Stanley Wilson Award for Excellence in Research recognizes research published in peer-reviewed journals or by academic publishers. The research must enhance the reputation of the College of The Bahamas as an institution of excellence. The work should make a significant contribution to international as well as Bahamian research literature. Upward of nine faculty members distinguished themselves as recipients of this prestigious award.

In 2009,Sir Franklyn and Lady Wilson made a donation to the Athletics Department in commemorating the memory of investment banker,Hywel Jones.

In 2010, the Wilsons, who were diverse in their giving, funded the Ednol Smith Book Award in Accounting. They were also avid supporters of Dr. Rhonda Chipman-Johnson’s Annual Tea Party.

On June 14, 2010,Sir Franklyn and Lady Wilson signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the College of The Bahamas, further demonstrating their commitment to the College. This commitment amounted to a total of $1 million. This contribution was named the Franklyn & Sharon Wilson Capital Development Fund.

The Wilson family’s dedication to capital and infrastructural improvements of the College of The Bahamas was evident. Their generosity was infectious where soon others, including the Royal Bank of Canada and the Canadian Friends of the College of The Bahamas also joined in the effort. Further support also came from Sunshine Holdings, which got wind of the decision to build the Franklyn R. Wilson Graduate Business Centre. They contributed substantial technical assistance, architectural and engineering support along with land surveying, project management and quantity surveying expertise. The importance of the marked increase in private support was unprecedented, thanks in no small part to the Wilsons’ giving, their reach and valued support.

The Sir Franklyn R. Wilson Graduate Business Centre is nearing completion. It will house a RBC Lecture Theatre and state-of-the-art classrooms which the University’s MBA program will embrace as its home.

Sir Franklyn has proven to be a visionary in Bahamian society in several spheres, but particularly in the realm of finance. He was instrumental in shepherding the engagement of key stakeholdersin the pre-VAT era where he planned meetings fostering dialogue around ideas and opportunity. He led the discussion between civil society, the university, the International Development Bank and others, keeping an eye on key inputs and proven techniques focusing on expected results; the remedy of a new tax regime for a nation standing at a crossroad, facing adversity, economic challenge and recurring natural disasters.

Sir Franklyn and Lady Wilson have led the way and joined other major donors in transforming the landscape of private giving, while in turn contributing to the transformation of the University of the Bahamas.

On November 10, 2016 President Rodney Smith in his address at the Charter Day ceremony for the University of The Bahamas foreshadowed the further engagement of the Wilson family where Lady Wilson was named the lead of the fundraising campaign for the University’s Student Activities Centre which will be named after her.

Private giving has been vital to the University of The Bahamas’ advancement not only for the much needed injection of valued resources given by individuals like Sir Franklyn and Lady Wilson and family.

Their efforts have yielded exponential dividends for the University of The Bahamas, which is poised to attain even higher levels of growth in pursuit of its mission to support and drive national development through teaching, research and innovation and service to the community.
