Yatra movie review: Mammootty’s political drama is worth rooting for in spite of flaws
Yatra movie review: mammootty’s docudrama is at its best when it focuses on the padayatra, devoid of any major twists and turns that usually leave you in awe. rating: 3/5..
Yatra Director: Mahi Raghav Cast: Mammootty, Sachin Khedekar, Rao Ramesh and Jagapathi Babu Rating: 3/5
Mammootty -starrer Yatra, directed by Mahi Raghav , is one of those political films you wish had more to offer than merely focusing on one particular event. The idea to build a story based on a single event might sound exciting on paper but when translated on screen, it needs more heft to make the story really captivating.
As much as Yatra makes one root for YS Rajasekhar Reddy and the most significant moment of his political career – the padayatra (walkathon) which changed the course of politics in Andhra Pradesh – one really wishes the film had more to offer. Nevertheless, it’s an extraordinary story of one man’s vision and how it made him a messiah of sorts for the poor and underprivileged.
Watch the trailer for Yatra:
What really makes Yatra a solid – if not great – political film is the fact that it does not try to make YSR appear heroic, despite having a star like Mammootty essay the character. It humanizes the protagonist and makes us really understand why YSR was a powerful leader and what set him apart from his contemporaries.
The walkathon segment, which really is the soul of the film, really makes us root for YSR. The film focuses on two major issues that were addressed during the padayatra — farmer suicides and lack of good healthcare to the poor. The two populist schemes are fittingly narrated through two elaborate sequences which are easily the best stretches of the story which otherwise doesn’t have much more to offer. Yatra is neither a full-length political drama nor a propaganda film. It is a docudrama at best when it focuses on the padayatra, devoid of any major twists and turns that usually leave you in awe.
Mahi Raghav, who has made a mark with lesser known but well-made films like Paathshala and Anando Brahma, proves that he can handle subjects that need to be told on a large scale. He handles the story of YSR with sensitivity and could have easily played it safe. But he surprises everyone by making this story stand out.
Mammootty makes a grand return to Telugu cinema after two decades. When you walk out watching Yatra, Mammootty leaves one with the feeling that he couldn’t have chosen a better character for his comeback. As YSR, he almost nails every trait that makes the character memorable, including his walk and his signature hand wave. No other actor could’ve played this character with the kind of effortlessness Mammootty brings to his performance.

Yatra movie review: Mammootty is convincing as YSR
Yatra movie review: beyond politics, mahi v raghav film yatra, starring mammootty, also works as a decent human drama..
Yatra movie cast: Mammootty, Jagapathi Babu, Suhasini Maniratnam Yatra movie director: Mahi V Raghav Yatra movie rating: 3 stars
On January 7, NTR: Kathanayakudu was released. In the film based on the rise and rise of late legendary actor NT Rama Rao, we were introduced to YS Rajasekhara Reddy, a young politician from Pulivendula. “He’s a very good friend,” Chandra Babu Naidu introduces YSR to NTR. “I am your big fan,” YSR replies.
Since making an honourary cameo appearance in the NTR biopic, YSR has got his own standalone film, Yatra. It is the second Telugu biopic on a political leader to release this year in the span of just 30 days. However, unlike the former, Yatra limits itself from indulging in over-the-top adulation of its subject.
Yatra is not a film about just one man. It is about what that one-man meant to millions of people.
Director-writer Mahi V Raghav told me that political biopics has never clicked at the box office in India. He did not just understand the risk of taking up such a project, he was also mindful not to repeat the common mistakes of the biopic genre. The hack is not to burden the script with too much information. For example, NTR: Kathanayakudu was crammed with way too many details that weighed down the entire film. The filmmakers had included at least three different moments just to illustrate one point: NTR was always punctual. He was neither late nor early. He was always on time. A passing reference would have served the purpose, instead of dedicating the precious screentime to play up this trivia, which has no value to add to the narration.
But, for Raghav, facts are not as important as narrative. He has avoided writing trivial details into the script, by focusing on just one part of YSR’s life, where he revived the fortunes of a political party that was staring at a definite electoral loss.
Make no mistake, it is not a detached study of one of the most important political leaders of our time. The director does want to make YSR look more endearing and the epitome of leadership. But, what makes this film a pleasant watch is the director’s earnest approach to telling a tale of a political superstar.
For those who are aware of YSR’s achievements in politics, the film works in the realm of nostalgia. For an uninitiated viewer like me, it subtly captures the power tension between a regional satrap and an age-old national political party.
YSR ( Mammootty ) sticks out like a sore thumb among the crowd of docile. He plays by his own rules and not always obeys the party high-command. But, the fact of the matter is the party needs him more than he needs the party. If push comes to shove, YSR won’t even hesitate to warn the party detailing the strength he enjoys in the assembly.
The party infighting is just a sub-plot in Yatra. The main course is the journey of YSR, who becomes more mellow and determined to address problems at the grass-root level.
Beyond politics, the film also works as a decent human drama. Other characters have a limited role to play in the film, but thankfully they are not used as a hero-worshipping tool. For instance, Jagapathi Babu, who plays YSR’s father’s YS Raja Reddy, makes a strong presence in the story, even though he just appears in just a couple of scenes.
Mammootty, on the other hand, delivers a convincing portrait of a political leader.
The first line that YSR says is: “There is no need for you to worry when I am alive.” This dialogue echoes at the end, when you see people collapsing on the ground in despair.

Yatra Movie Review: YSR biopic is underwhelming but Mammootty saves the day
Yatra movie review: director mahi raghav's yatra, ysr biopic, starring mammootty showcases the humane side of late cm ys rajashekar reddy. despite its problems, yatra is a one-time-watch, says our review..
Listen to Story
After Mahanati's resounding success, Tollywood has developed a sweet spot for biopics. Recently, NTR Kathanyakudu hit the theatres and now it is Yatra's turn to grace the screens. Yatra, on the life of YS Rajashekar Reddy, directed by Mahi V Raghav, is a film that shows a series of events that took place in 2003 and how it changed the course of politics in undivided Andhra Pradesh.
Right from trailers and interviews, Mahi and Mammootty made it clear that Yatra is not a biopic on the life of late CM YS Rajashekar Reddy (YSR). The film, in simple words, concentrates on the iconic padayatra he took and how it propelled him to become the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
YSR's padayatra is indeed a monumental moment in Andhra Pradesh's politics. In 2003, Congress (including YSR) was facing the crunch. YSR's idea to begin his padayatra turned the tables and eventually, he bet all odds to become the messiah of the people.
For non-Telugu speaking audience, Yatra could serve as a handbook on the events that happened in 2003. But, for Telugu-speaking people, Yatra turns out to be unimpressive as the film lacks the punch and fizzles out towards the end.
The biopics that have released in recent times - Sanju, Mahanati and NTR Kathanayakudu - dehumanise their respective heroes and project them as gods (or victims of the situation, like in Sanju). Kudos to Mahi Raghav who showcases the humane side of YSR and stays away from glorifying him. More importantly, there are a lot of sequences that show YSR as a man and not a politician.
In that way, Yatra is a film that shows what kind of a man YSR was. While he is compassionate towards the suffering people have had to endure, he is also a person with a devil-may-care attitude. He is a person who undertakes the padayatra to understand the public and also makes his party leader wait for him. The scene in which he makes his party leader wait for him is one of the most well-written scenes in the film.
Choosing Mammootty to step into the shoes of YSR is a bold choice and a successful one as well. He brings his own charisma and experience to the role. Mammootty, in several interviews, has said that he hasn't imitated YSR and it has worked in his favour.
Any film for that matter, let alone biopics, is in need of a powerful antagonist. In this case, Mahi Raghav fails to showcase the opposition political parties and their reaction towards YSR's rise as a probable Chief Minister. It would have given a new dimension to Yatra; but no, Mahi has safely stayed away from it.
Mammootty's performance is refined and he does not have to mouth page-long dialogues to hold the viewer's attention. However, the second half of the film forces him to mouth inspirational quotes one after another.
Ashrita Vemuganti, who plays YSR's wife Vijayamma, delivers a subtle yet memorable performance, as do Rao Ramesh and Posani.
Overall, if Mahi had avoided making the second half of the film a documentary, Yatra could've been a memorable journey.
Director Mahi Raghav's Yatra, YSR biopic, starring Mammootty showcases the humane side of late CM YS Rajashekar Reddy. Despite its problems, Yatra is a one-time-watch, says our review.
2.5 out of 5 stars for Yatra.

Yatra is one film which is being awaited eagerly as it is the biopic of late Rajasekhar Reddy. Mammootty plays YSR in this film which has hit the screens all over today. Let’s see how it is.
The story is all about YSR(Mammootty) and how he went on a Padayatra before the historical 2004 elections. The film showcases what problems YSR faced in his journey and how he won the elections victoriously by announcing several policies which won the hearts of many.
Plus Points :
There was a lot of hue and cry when the makers chose Mammootty to play YSR. But boy, he is the heart and soul of Yatra. The national award winning actor has given one of his best performances and portrays YSR’s role in an emotional manner. Be it his dubbing, body language or the manner in which he showcases the pain throughout the film is superb and is the mainstay of Yatra. No one other than Mammootty could have played this role better.
What impresses you even more in Yatra is the emotional thread which is maintained throughout the film. The audience will completely connect to the emotions as they are real and showcase human values in a gritty manner. Rao Ramesh as KVP is superb and ably supports Mammootty in the film.
Jagapathi Babu is neat as Raja Reddy and so was Sachin Khedekar as the senior congressman. The small tiff’s between YSR and Congress leaders have been showcased in a gripping manner. The actress who played YSR’s wife is top notch. Even though Anasuya did a small role, she was flawless.
Dialogues need a special mention as the film is filled with meaningful monologues reflecting the pain which the common man faces in his daily life. The manner in which YSR introduces all the policies like Arogyasri has been established through some emotional scenes which will move you to tears.
Minus Points :
As the film is an emotional journey of YSR many might get a feeling that it is a clear propaganda film. Also, the digs taken at TDP party should have been avoided as there were absolutely no need scenes mocking Chandra Babu as they show TDP in a bad light.
The film is devoid of all commercial aspects and today’s younger generation who is least bothered about the past might find the film slow and boring at times.
Technical Aspects :
After watching the film, you can clearly understand that a lot of research has been done as real-life incidents have been brought to life in a beautiful manner. Production values by Vijay Chilla are top notch as the film looks real and rooted. This set up has been elevated even more by superb camera work which shows the Padayatra in a magnanimous manner.
As said earlier, dialogues elevate the film to another level altogether. Music by K is decent but his background score is terrific as every scene in the film is given a soul through his music. The production design, casting, locations chosen, are perfect and bring an authentic vibe to the film. Special credit should go to the dubbing department for working hard on Mammotty’s diction which is spot on.
Coming to the director Mahi V Raghav, he has given his life and made the film in a superb manner. Mahi catches on to the emotional aspect of YSR’s political journey and the rest of the scenes follow just like water. The manner in which he uses Mammootty’s charisma and showcases him in a magnanimous way makes the film click big time. After a point, you forget that Yatra is a propaganda film as what hits you are the moving emotions.
One the whole, Yatra lives up to all the expectations laid upon it. The film is an emotional tribute to YSR and showcases his historical Yatra in a moving and realistic manner. The film is not a regular political potboiler and will surely draw mixed reactions from various sections of the audience. But such realistic biopics which show harsh realities of life need to be encouraged. Box office wise, we need to see how the film does but Mammootty nails it as YSR and takes you on an engaging journey of human emotions which arrest you completely. Recommended.

Yatra Review: The Rise Of Mass Leader
Movie: Yatra Rating: 3/5 Banner: 70 MM Entertainments Cast: Mammootty, Jagapathi Babu, Suhasini Maniratnam, Rao Ramesh, Anasuya, Posani Krishna Murali, Vinod Kumar and Sachin Khedekar Music: K Cinematography: Sathyan Sooryan Editing: Sreekar Prasad Art: Monica and Ramakrishna Producers: Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devireddy Story, Screenplay and Direction: Mahi V Raghav Release date: Feb 08, 2019
The trend of biopics is in. After NTR’s biopic, we get to see a biopic on Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy, the late Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
As an opposition leader, YSR took a journey from Chevella to Ichapuram, a total distance of 1475 kilometers walking on foot. This biopic centers on this this journey precisely.
Let’s see whether Mahi Raghav captured the charismatic leader’s life well on to the screen.
Story: Sensing all odds against his party, congress leader Dr Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy decides to take pada yatra across the state in a do or die battle. He begins the journey in Chevella in Ranga Reddy district and ends it in Ichchapuram in Srikakulam district.
He meets cross sections of people, listens to them, sees their plight, and observes the conditions and notes down all of them. This journey changes everything – Andhra Pradesh’s political scenario as well as his life.
The film ends with him becoming CM and his death.
Artistes’ Performances: As we watch, we feel no other actor would have suited other than Mammootty for YSR’s role. Mammootty owns it, he gets the walk, attire, expressions perfectly. He looks as charismatic as YSR was. His performance holds the movie.
Rao Ramesh as YSR’s trusted friend KVP is perfect choice as well. Ashritha as YSR’s wife Vijayamma is also right casting.
In other important roles, Posani, Prudhvi, Vijay Chander and Anasuya make their presence felt.
Technical Excellence: The film has good music that elevates the mood. Songs are not catchy but have served the scenes. Cinematography is decent. Editing is neat.
Art work is appreciable despite limited budget. Using dialogues like “Nenu Vinnanu Nenunnanu” at key places is perfect.
Highlights: Mammootty as YSR Emotional moments YSR Vs High Command Scenes
Drawback: Political theme Some cinematic liberties
Analysis Making a biopic on Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy aka YSR, one of the most popular and charismatic leaders of Andhra Pradesh ever, is a tough task for any director.
YSR was not a movie star like NT Rama Rao, nor did he have major dramatic incidents in his personal life like the way NTR or Savitri faced (biopics on both these stars were released in the recent times).
YSR did have his share of ups and downs in political life but they were not dramatic in nature. Hence, Mahi V Raghav focused on the most important phase of YSR’s life, that not only changed the face of Andhra Pradesh but also made him a Mahaneta in AP political sphere. That is YSR’s famous Pada Yatra.
The director has tried to capture the spirit of YSR’s relentless pursuit to make peoples’ life better.
The film comes to the point straight way. Congress was facing big crisis. Even YSR had nil chances of attaining power if he didn’t do something out of ordinary.
In that sense, this film shows the opponent (Chandrababu Naidu) in realistic manner saying he’s powerful. The film also shows that Naidu built IT infrastructure and Hitech city but neglected the farmers and the poor.
Mahi V Raghav doesn’t go beyond criticizing this point. He has stuck to YSR’s pada yatra, how he had seen the plight of the people in his own eyes and how he had created schemes based on what he saw.
Thus the director has focused on positive angle of YSR and has not used this platform to slam TDP and Naidu. He has also not made this film as a pamphlet for YS Jagan’s party.
It is quite interesting to note that Mahi V Raghav made a political pada yatra into an emotional journey. He has elevated YSR’s greatness by creating scenes like YSR having dinner at a poor woman’s house and knowing the pension problems.
Scenes like YSR introspecting that they (political leaders) never cared for what people want but strived for what they want as leaders. Such honesty has made this film an honest effort.
Expectedly, the film makes YSR as a supreme leader in Congress twisting some facts of then political life. That is understandable. However, ‘Yatra’ doesn’t go overboard in glorifying YSR but depicts the journey that he underwent as a person to become a great leader.
Three scenes stand out in the film.
1. YSR learning the importance of free medical treatment with a poor kid's mother (played by Kalyani) trying to get money for the treatment for heart-ailment.
2. YSR going all out to defend a poor constable who did forgery to get Rs 35000 for education of his son.
3. Asking his assistant to sit with him for lunch along with congress leaders.
These three scenes have brought out the personality traits of YSR.
The film's laugh out loud scene is when Chandrababu Naidu's voice is heard over a phone call. He says "They briefed me" on the phone. Naidu is never shown on the film but this voice brought the house down. Even though Naidu's infamous dialogue "they briefed me" is used in a different context here, it brings laughter.
Mahi V Raghav as a director has pulled off this biopic perfectly despite some problems in the second half.
Overall, “Yatra” is a perfect tribute to YSR’s life in general. The film will be liked by all YSR’s fans and congress leaders. For general audiences, it makes a decent watch as it portrays an important political event in combined state of Andhra Pradesh.
More than politics, the emotional sequences work out well for all.

Yatra 2 review: The story of a resilient son who fought for his father’s vision, vow, and commitment
'Yatra 2' shows YS Jagan wading through turbulent waters of wicked politics with an unyielding spirit to carry forward his father's legacy.
Published:Feb 10, 2024
'Yatra 2', directed by Mahi V Raghav, is a sequel to 'Yatra'. (MahiVraghav/X)
Yatra 2 (Telugu)
- Main Cast: Mammootty, Jiiva, Ketaki Narayan, Suzanne Bernert, Mahesh Manjrekar, Subhalekha Sudhakar, and Ashrita Vemuganti Nanduri
- Director: Mahi V Raghav
- Producer: Shiva Meka
- Cinematography: Madhie
Yatra 2 may not be a compelling tale of political intrigue or an upfront political drama that defined the crucial period of Andhra Pradesh politics.
But it is gratifying because of its emotion on indefinite grounds, especially if you’re a true fan of the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR) or YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the current Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
The film may not earn whistles in theatres like the high-pitched sound experienced when a true leader is greeted by the public. But it attempts to tell the story of a distraught son who just lost his father.
So, how does he wade through the seemingly turbulent waters of wicked politics with an unyielding spirit to carry forward his father’s legacy?
Let’s check it out here:

Yatra 2 chronicles the journey of YSR and his politician-son Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
Veteran Malayalam star Mammootty plays the late YSR, while Tamil actor Jiiva essays the role of YS Jagan.
The story unfolds against the backdrop of the 2009 elections, where YSR introduces Jagan to the public and fields him as Kadapa MP candidate.
After a resounding victory, YSR ascends to the chief ministership and promises a new era of progress for the state.
However, tragedy strikes the family and his supporters in the form of YSR’s untimely demise, thereby plunging the state into mourning.
Soon, the stage is set for YS Jagan, who is just about to emerge as a key player in Andhra Pradesh politics.
Jagan’s political journey is marked by a series of key moments: from the padayatra to the formation of a separate political party defying the Congress high command’s instructions.
Despite facing challenges, including CBI probes and subsequent arrest in the disappropriate assets case, YS Jagan demonstrates unwavering resilience. Thus, he ultimately emerges as a formidable force in Andhra Pradesh politics.
The narrative also showcases the tumultuous events leading to the Andhra Pradesh bifurcation and N Chandrababu Naidu winning the elections soon after the bifurcation.
YS Jagan starts his political journey as the Leader of the Opposition in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. He takes out a padayatra to revive his prospects of taking over the reins of Andhra Pradesh.
How he emerged victorious in 2019, following the culmination of years of political struggle and hard work from the grassroots — is the story of YS Jagan’s enduring spirit of leadership and resilience while staring at adversity after his father’s loss.

‘Yatra 2’ is based on the story of AP Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. (X)
Yatra 2 is not the highly-anticipated political drama as it was publicised. Well, there are no elements of intrigue or secrecy involved in the characters of real-life political leaders.
However, director Mahi V Raghav tries to infuse soul into the political story with the son idolising his revered father due to the unfortunate mishap.
Retaining the original names of key political figures such as YS Jagan, YSR, and Chandrababu Naidu, Yatra 2 offers a comprehensive depiction of significant political events in Andhra Pradesh from 2009 to 2019.
Despite its inherently political nature, Yatra 2 unfolds a deeply emotional saga, centring on the son’s unwavering commitment to uphold his father’s legacy and promises to people.
Jagan’s character is elevated throughout the film, adding layers of depth to his portrayal as a determined and resilient political leader.
While the storyline strikes an emotional chord with audiences, some viewers may find certain blocks stretched due to the emotional narrative.
The real footage during the YSR’s time — his demise and YS Jagan’s swearing-in ceremony as Chief Minister — adds a realistic touch to the story.
Overall, Y atra 2 offers audiences a compelling portrayal of a YSR legacy — a familiar story showcasing the emotional depth with which it has been handled.

Performances.
Mammootty and Jiiva’s ‘Yatra 2’ is a political drama. (X)
While Mammootty was convincing in the prequel Yatra (2019), this time, Jiiva is equally convincing in the role of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Reprising his role as YSR in the initial moments of the film, Mammootty delivers a memorable performance.
Ashrita Vemuganti, who plays YSR’s wife Vijayamma, is commendable.
Mahesh Manjrekar shines as Telugu Desam Party Chief Chandrababu Naidu.
Suzanne Bernert as Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi and Ketaki Narayan’s performance as YS Bharti are also brilliant.
The film’s background music emerges as an important asset of Yatra 2 .
The music adds depth and emotion to some crucial scenes during the runtime, particularly in the scenes involving YS Jagan and his father, evoking a feeling of poignancy among viewers.
The uplifting score during Jagan’s padayatra and his victory in the Assembly elections is again a standout feature.
The film’s cinematography delivers stunning visuals and enhances the overall viewing experience.
Director Mahi V Raghav has, once again, proven his filmmaking prowess with Yatra 2 .
Building on the success of the original Yatra , Raghav meticulously crafted the political biopic, infusing the story with emotional depth.
Yatra 2 is a political biopic blended with emotional storytelling and political intrigue.
Fans of YSR and YS Jagan are likely to find it particularly satisfying, as the film delves into the intricacies of family legacy and YS Jagan’s political journey.
Drawing parallels to Yatra, the sequel evokes a sense of nostalgia and admiration for one of the key political figures of AP — Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy and his son YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
With its slightly engaging drama and good performances, Yatra 2 is poised to resonate with audiences similarly.

Yatra Movie Review: Live Updates About The Mammootty Starrer
The Malayalam Megastar Megastar Mammootty is all set to return to Tollywood with the eagerly-awaited Yatra which hits the screens today(February 8, 2019). Directed by Mahi V Raghav, the film revolves around the life of the former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy and highlights his famous Padhayatra. Yatra has created has created a great deal of buzz amongst the fans for all the right reasons and this should help it make an impact at the box office.
While talking about the film, Mammootty had recently said that Yatra revolves around how YSR touched the lives of countless people through his the iconic foot journey.
"Yatra isn't just about walking - it is about meeting people, answering their questions and finding solutions to their problems. Showing a person walking for two hours can be boring, the director showed him meeting different people from different strata of society," he had told The Hindu.
Yatra also features Jagapathy Babu in the lead, Noted actors Sudheer Babu and Rao Ramesh too are a part of the cast. The first shows of Yatra are set to get underway. Stay tuned for the live review from the theatres.
- Mammootty is the soul of Yatra. His subdued yet intense performance proves that he is an actor par excellence.
- Yatra tries to capture the essence of YSR and highlight the thought process behind his schemes.
- Yatra feels a bit slow at certain points, however, the emotional narrative makes up for this shortcoming
- On the whole, barring a few minor glitches, Yatra makes for a splendid watch.
Also, here are the key talking points about Yatra.
Will Mammootty Conquer Tollywood?
Mammootty is arguably the finest actor in the country. However, he has not done too many films in Tollywood. In fact, his last major Telugu film Swati Kiranam had released nearly 27 years ago. Many feel that Yatra is a crucial release for him as it could help him prove that he is a pan-India star in the truest sense.
Mahi V Raghav’s Big Moment!
In 2017, Mahi V Raghav became the talk of the town when the horror-comedy Anando Brahma opened to a good response at the box office and emerged as a sleeper hit. If Yatra too does well, he will enter the big league. As such, the stakes are pretty high for the director.
A Safe Venture
Yatra has done pre-release business of Rs 13.5 crore worldwide and needs to collect Rs 14 crore share in order to emerge as a profitable venture. Most feel that reaching this figure is not going to be a difficult task for the Mammootty starrer. All in all, this is a safe venture.
Will Yatra Benefit From The NTR Kathanayakudu Debacle?
Yatra was originally supposed to clash with NTR Mahanayakudu . However, the clash was averted when the NBK starrer got delayed because of the lacklustre response to NTR Kathanayakudu. In other words, Yatra managed to get a solo release only because of the poor response to the NTR biopic. Let us wait and watch whether this helps the film do well at the ticket window or not.

Yatra 2 Movie Review & Rating – The Rise of Jagan
Yatra 2 Movie Review & Rating: Yatra 2 is a semi biopic of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and it deals with the journey of Jagan during 2009 – 2019. It majorly focuses on how close Jagan went to the people during his walkathon and how deeply he connected with the masses at an emotional level. Director Mahi V Raghav has efficiently captured emotions of people after YSR’s demise and how Jagan realised his goal of walking down his father’s path. Yatra 2 is bankrolled by Three Autumn Leaves along with V Celluloids backed by Shiva Meka. Madhie is the cinematographer. The film will hit the screens worldwide on 8th February, 2024.
“‘Yatra’ was crafted against the backdrop of YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s walkathon and gained widespread popularity among the audience, achieving success at the box office. Now, in continuation of the saga, ‘Yatra 2’ is in the making. This sequel portrays the journey of YS Jaganmohan Reddy, YSR’s son, illustrating his evolution into a people’s leader and delving into the political landscape of Andhra Pradesh from 2009 to 2019.”
Yatra 2 Movie Review & Rating
We all know “‘Yatra 2,’ one of the highly anticipated sequels of the season directed by Mahi V Raghav, is generating buzz with its compelling promotional content. With its spot-on casting, featuring popular hero Jiiva as Andhra Pradesh’s honorable Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy and the legendary Mammootty reprising his role from the first part, ‘Yatra,’ where he portrayed the last elected Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Rajasekhar Reddy.” German Actress Suzanne Bernert is playing the crucial role of Sonia in ‘Yatra 2’.
The film is a sequel to Yatra (2019); while the first film was based on the life of the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy (played by Mammootty), the sequel will tell the story of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy (Jiiva), the current Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
Plus Points:
- Dialogues are well written in a very natural way to connect easily with audience
- Mammotty and Jeeva peformed very well in the shoes of YSR and YS Jagan
- There are many scenes that will give Goosebumps to audience
- There is no satairical comments on opponents but unfolded the real truth in a genric manner
- Definitely helps in expressing the Jagan’s view point and ideology to people and Fans
- Well written and story telling is amazing, conveying nicely to the audience
- Jeeva’s portrayal of Jagan, commending his ability to capture the politician’s charisma and connect with the audience
- Director prefectly presented the emotional side of Jagan Mohan Reddy & Family before the audience
- The film boasts high production values, with good cinematography, music, and set design.
Minus Points:
- You cannot expect comedy or satairical comments on opponent leaders
- We found the film slow-moving, particularly in the second half, where it leaned towards a documentary style.
Yatra 2 Telugu Movie Review
The film exactly portrays the emotions in a heart touching manner. It depicts how YS Jagan played by Jiiva realises about the adoration and love people have developed towards his father, YS Rajasekhar Reddy played by Mammoottyy.
Yatra 2 is a decent watch for those interested in YSR and Jagan’s life and Andhra Pradesh politics after YSR death. Jeeva’s performance as Jagan Mohan Reddy and the portrayal of the padayatra remain the film’s strong points.
Final Verdict:
Yatra 2 is definitely a worth watching sequel film of this month. Not only YSRCP and Jagan Mohan Reddy fans also general audience should watch this film to know the reality behind the credibility in politics.
