A hobby provides one with a welcome change. When one is back home after a strenuous day with an exhausted and jaded mind, one’s mind is enlivened by a hobby. It is an occupation in which one is one’s own master, no terms are dictated; no restrictions are imposed. If one succeeds, it is so pleasant and heartening; if one does not, it hardly matters.

There is no end to the kinds of hobbies. Stamp collecting seems to be one of the most popular and universally practiced hobbies. Students derive great pleasure from it. Autograph collecting is another favorite. It provides opportunities to meet great people. It also helps people to cast off their shyness and approach great men. However, once when I approached a great dramatist to get this autograph, he wrote in my autograph book – getting autographs is a sign of adolescence. I felt so flushed, I have never again asked anyone for his autograph. Fishing is yet another on popular hobby. Nevertheless, it is a hobby essentially of the reflective or imaginative mind. One can sit for hours near a tank or a rivulet, with rod or line in hand, lost in the paradise of one’s own creation. Rambling in the countryside is a very refreshing pursuit. It helps to restore man’s ties with nature, which stand almost snapped. Besides, it can prove highly educational. Someone with well-developed creative faculties can make decorative pieces with the odd knick-knack available in the house. One of my friends has made the Minar-a-Pakistan purely from empty penicillin vials. Another one makes beautiful decorative wall plates with empty cigarette packets. Then there are gardening, horse-riding, reading favorite authors, photography, painting, music coin or insect collecting, hitch-hiking and so on. In fact, hobbies can be multiplied and infinitum.

Some of the hobbies can be quite ridiculous too. One of my friends has the hobby of collecting discarded tins and bus cartons, and empty bottles. Another one is interested in collecting the small confectionery wrappings. Still another one’s hobby is to collect a variety of cigars. Great men too have hobbies. They derive considerable personal pleasure from their pursuits but their hobbies are motivated by some other consideration too. A politician may turn to a science laboratory or a priest may take to dramatics purely for relaxation and still produce remarkable results.

A few basic principles ought to be observed in the selection of hobbies. A hobby should of course be an absorbing source of pleasure. But it should be pursued as a hobby only. It should not be allowed to become a passion or an obsession. Nor should it be allowed to interfere in one’s professional life. Secondly, it should be within one’s means. It should not be expensive that it starts draining one’s financial resources. Photography and record – collecting have become luxuries. If one can afford them. They are highly satisfying. But there can be equally satisfying inexpensive hobbies to-reading, writing or painting, for example. Painting or writing can even be made a source of income. Thirdly, hobbies should not be absurd, idle pursuits. They should serve some useful purpose. There is palmistry, a fascinating and educational study. There is gardening to provide physical exercise as well as fresh vegetables and colourful flowers. Finally, hobbies are purely personal affairs. They should not be allowed to distract one from one’s domestic and social obligations.

Hobbies are very popular in the west. It is a common saying that Every Englishman rides a hobbyhorse. But Pakistanis do not fully realise the importance and advantage of such a pursuit. Our most popular hobby seems to be gossiping. Ladies, in particular, hold coffee-cum-mud flinging sessions in the afternoon. How light and relaxed they feel after a two-hour long character dissection of their neighbours. One who is strained in his professional life feels the need of relaxation. Since many of us do not take their jobs seriously, they are mostly in a state of idle relaxation.

If I were to pick one favourite hobby of mine out of the many I have, I will definitely pick gardening. I developed a taste for dancing when I was very young. A hobby or something you enjoy adds interest and charm to your day. I'm going to talk to you about my favourite pastime, which is dancing. Today, practically everyone is so busy keeping up with their busy schedules that they feel short of time. Similar is the case with me, as I need to devote a huge amount of time to my studies, entrance exam preparations, and coaching. However, I ensure that I spare at least 30 minutes a day to dance. Dancing relieves me of the day’s stress and I feel energetic to swiftly finish all tasks at hand. I am a good dancer, and have been awaredec various prizes in school for my wins in different competitions.

Out of my many interests, I would call reading my favourite hobby. I like to read for fun. Reading not only makes us happy but also broadens our understanding. Reading is a crucial activity that aids in developing skills and is beneficial. A good book makes us happy and also expands our knowledge. I make sure that I read at least for an hour everyday, which is usually before going to bed. Reading at bedtime not only relaxes my mind, but also welcomes a good night’s sleep.

Why it is important to read books is because:-

Expands Knowledge | We know that reading books broadens our understanding of various topics. Different books touch upon different themes. Some educate us in Hindi, while others instruct us in Math or English.

Enriches Vocabulary | We pick up new words through reading books. It assists us in incorporating numerous unique and valuable terms into our daily lives.

Gives Peace | There is no physical exercise involved in reading books; instead, it is a very relaxing habit. It can be carried out in total silence and promotes inner tranquilly.

Fosters Imagination | Reading is a great way to improve our imagination, since, it is natural for human beings to create visuals in their mind of what they read in text. So, the more one reads, the more they imagine.

If I have to choose one out of all my hobbies, I will choose cricket. One of the most well-known sports in India is cricket. It is one of the sports practised widely in practically every country. The equipment needed for this activity is a wooden bat and a ball. There are two teams in this game, each with eleven players. The goal of this game is to score the most runs possible. This game is played outside on a field maintained explicitly for the occasion.

I have many interests, but I enjoy playing cricket the most. It also keeps me energised and helps me feel stronger and healthier. My interest in cricket began when I was just five years old. I was drawn to it as a sport and was enthralled by this activity. I used to be so hurried when I got home from school that I would play cricket right after eating my supper. I was a well-known student-athlete at the school.

Dhoni: My Inspiration

Like many other people, I was inspired to start playing by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, former Indian cricket team captain. My goal is to play like Dhoni. Even though I’m generously appreciated by my spectators during my matches, I am usually never delighted. I've always aimed to outperform myself. My love of cricket helped me become well-known in my school. In addition, I received a certificate commending me on the day of my school farewell.

Cricket, like any other physical sport, has several advantages for the physical and mental health of those who play it. Some of the benefits of playing cricket are listed here:-

Playing cricket is enjoyable.

Cricket builds stamina.

Brings balance and coordination between mind and body.

It improves our physical fitness.

Hand-eye coordination is enhanced.

It teaches us teamwork.

It teaches us how to communicate with others and makes us social.

It also enhances our capacity for communication.

It is a promising career option in our cricket-crazy country.

When a cricketer decides to pursue the sport professionally, he plays by joining any club, city team, state team, national team, franchise team, and more. As a cricket player, there are several possible routes. Few cricketers focus on a particular game format, such as T20 cricket. If a cricketer succeeds, they can earn an incredible amount of money. Even domestic cricket players have the potential to make a nice living. A cricket player's life is incredibly glitzy and regal.

We seldom have time to ourselves in the hectic and competitive world. Our schedule becomes incredibly dull and repetitive over time. We must indulge in something in between to keep our ideas lively and fresh. What could be better for this than a hobby? Having a hobby significantly reduces stress is one of its main advantages. It truly makes you happy to do it and fills your soul. Cricket is a fantastic pastime. Having cricket as a hobby may be highly advantageous for someone because it has several advantages for our physical and mental health.

My Hobby Essay

The word “hobby” literally means an activity that is undertaken for the sake of engagement and pleasure during free time. Man has a willingness to keep himself engaged even in his free time to escape the dullness of idleness and to have some recreation. Such an activity is called a hobby. It is a good means to have (diversion) detachment from the worldly affairs. It provides a sort of peace to tired minds. In the present age, most people have selected their hobbies according to their tastes and temperaments. Stamp collecting, photography, reading books, listening to the radio, watching T.V., coin collecting, gardening, etc are some of the most common hobbies.

I, too, have selected a hobby for myself and it is gardening. I have a natural desire to spend my rare free hours in the company of sympathetic nature. I have a small plot of land at the back of my house. I have turned it into a beautiful garden.

I have planted evergreen plants and fruit trees around it.

I have grown in it multicolored flowers and vegetables of different varieties. I feel pleased, relaxed and refreshed by the fragrance of its flowers, and musical sound of the leaves and the greenery of the lush green turf patches.

Almost every day I spend my leisure time in my garden. I water the plants and remove the unwanted weeds from the beds. I trim the plants and broom the garden from dirt and dust.

Both the flower beds and the vegetable beds are equally cared, reared and nurtured. I take proper care of the plants and make use of adequate fertilizers and pesticides in my garden. This has helped my garden to (grow) healthy and fresh vegetables and a variety of colorful flowers. Thus, I am able to satisfy some timely needs from my garden.

My hobby gives me a lot of fun and delight. It is really health-giving. I would like to pursue it all my life ―What is life if there is no time to stand and stare!

My Hobby Essay in English

Hobbies play an important part in our life. They keep us busy in spare hours and make life happy. They make us forget our worries and give us inspiration. They make life interesting and pleasant. They give us energy and teach us the dignity of labour.

All hobbies are useful in one way or the other. But the one I like most is gardening. I have recently developed a taste for it. It is both pleasant and economical.

I have always had a love for nature and have admired flowers and plants. But I have never before felt the real joy they afford to the human mind. It is only now that I learn what store of knowledge they have for us.

Gardening gives us a lot of exercises. It teaches us to work with our own hands. It brings us into close contact with nature. It is a pleasure to dig the earth to make flower beds and dig canals for water. All this is very interesting. This kind of physical exercise is delightful and enjoyable.

Gardening teaches us the wonders of plant life. It is a source of great pleasure to watch the seeds sprout into plants with tiny and tender leaves. We learn how and when particular kinds of flowers and plants grow what conditions are necessary for hair growth what habits they have and under what favourable circumstances they can thrive.

We also learned of the diseases of plants and their remedies. We can’t know and understand all this by reading books only. In gardening, we read the very book of nature.

Gardening adds to the beauty of the spot. The barren place begins to change its looks. The plants bring forth buds which blossom into lovely flowers of different colours. It lends a charm to the whole sight.

The flowering, creepers, the green grass, and the green hedge make the place so attractive. We know that it is the fruit of earth on the label we feel the real joy of it.

Gardening adds to our comfort and health. We enjoy the fresh air the cool Breeze and the pleasant shade of trees. The sweet smelling flowers make the air fragrant. It refreshes the brain and invigorates the body.

مشاغل کی اہمیت

انسان کی زندگی میں تبدیلی کا اہم کردار ہے۔ زندگی جینے کے لیے زندگی میں تبدیلی بہت اہم ہے ورنہ انسان بہت جلد اپنے ماحول سے اُکتا جاتا ہے۔ اسی طرح جب کوئی شخص اپنے روز و شب ایک ہی طرح سے گزارے تو وہ اُکتانے لگتا ہے۔ اس کی طبیعت میں چڑچڑاپن واضح ہونے لگتا ہے۔ اس چڑچڑےپن سے بچنے کے لیے انسان کو وہ کام کرنا چاہیے جس میں وہ دلچسپی رکھتا ہو۔ اپنی پسند کے کام کرنے کی وجہ سے انسان کا وقت بھی اچھا گزرتا ہے اور اس کی طبیعت میں خوش اخلاقی کا عنصر بھی نمایاں رہتا ہے جو اس بات کا ثبوت ہے کہ : “انسان دوسروں کو وہی چیز دے سکتا ہے جو اس کے اپنے پاس ہو”

یعنی جب انسان چڑچڑا ہے تو وہ اپنے آس پاس موجود لوگوں کو کبھی بھی کوئی خوشی نہیں دے سکتا۔ اس کے برعکس اگر وہ پُرسکون ہے تو اس کے آس پاس بسنے والے بھی اس کی ذات سے خوش رہیں گے۔

ہر انسان کی طرح میرے بھی کئی مشاغل ہیں لیکن میرے فارغ وقت کا زیادہ تر حصہ میں اپنے پسندیدہ ترین مشغلے میں صرف کرتا ہوں۔ میرا پسندیدہ ترین مشغلہ “لکھنا” ہے۔ میں ہر روز کم سے کم ایک گھنٹہ لکھنے اور سوچنے پر صرف کرتا ہوں۔ مجھے اپنی سوچوں کو قرطاس پر بکھیر کر سکون و اطمینان ملتا ہے۔ ایسا سکون جو مجھے کہیں اور سے نصیب نہیں ہوسکتا ہے۔

لکھاری اور معاشرہ

ایک معاشرے میں لکھاریوں کا یوں بھی بہت اہم کردار ہوتا ہے۔ لکھاری اپنی تحریروں کے ذریعے عوام کے ضمیر کو جگا سکتے ہیں۔ اس کی سب بڑی مثال پاکستان ہے۔ سر سید احمد خان نے اردو ادب کو فروغ دے کر ہی قوم کو بیدار کیا تھا اقر علامہ محمد اقبال نے بھی اپنی قلم کے ذریعے ہی نوجوانوں میں جوش و ولولہ پیدا کیا تھا اور پھر عوام نے قائداعظم کی قیادت میں پاکستان حاصل کرلیا۔ اسی طرح یہ ایک لکھاری کی ذمہ داری ہوتی ہے کہ عوام کی توجہ معاشرتی مسائل کی جانب دلائے اور ان کے حل بھی تجویز کرے۔ میری کوشش ہوتی ہے کہ میں اپنی لکھی ہر کہانی میں ایک اصلاحی پہلو بھی اُجاگر کروں تاکہ پڑھنے والے کو اس کہانی سے کوئی سبق حاصل ہوسکے۔

میں اور قلم

لکھتے ہوئے میں اکثر اپنے ان احساسات کو بھی کاغذ پر لکھ دیتا ہوں جو میں کسی سے کہہ نہیں پاتا۔ میرا قلم میرا بہترین ساتھی ہے۔ اکثر اپنے اندر کی بےچینی کو قلم سے کاغذ پر بکھیر کر بہت سکون ملتا ہے اور اس بات کی فکر بھی نہیں ہوتی کہ کوئی میری بات سننے کے بعد مجھے کیسا سمجھے گا میرے بارے میں کیا سوچے گا۔ میرا قلم میرا بہترین ساتھی ہے اور بہترین مشغلہ بھی جس سے نہ صرف مجھے بلکہ دوسروں کو بھی فائدہ پہنچتا ہے۔ میں کبھی بھی اس مشغلے کو اپنی زندگی سے ترک نہیں کروں گا اور یوں ہی خود کو اور معاشرے کو فائدہ پہنچاتا رہوں گا۔
