Knowing these modes will help you choose the best layout for your presentation!
To switch the layout of your presentation, simply flip the orientation to create a captivating visual experience in Keynote. Here’s how:
Open your Keynote presentation.
Click on ‘Document’ in the toolbar.
Select ‘Slide Size’ and then ‘Custom Slide Size.’
In the dialog box, choose either ‘Portrait’ or ‘Landscape’ orientation.
Click ‘OK’ to apply the changes.
Now your presentation will have a new and impactful layout!
Transform your presentation into a visually stunning masterpiece by customizing the arrangement and aesthetic of each slide.
Utilize Keynote’s built-in templates to easily change slide layouts.
Choose from a variety of pre-designed portrait-oriented templates.
Rearrange elements on the slide to fit the new orientation.
By adjusting slide layout and design, you can ensure that your content is displayed in the most visually appealing way possible, capturing your audience’s attention and enhancing their overall experience.

- Go to the "Document" tab.
- Click on "Slide Size".

Keynote Portrait Orientation *Including Printing!*
I created a portrait orientation page using the Inspector - Document tab, selecting Slide Size - Custom Slide Size..., and set the dimensions to a portrait orientation. (Annoyingly, I had to use "points" instead of inches like every real business uses.) I had my document, or so I thought, and created what I wanted.
It displays on screen in portrait mode. But when I went to print, Keynote slapped my work on a landscape format, cutting off a large portion of my layout.
Is there a way for Keynote to really do portrait or is Keynote incapable of dealing with portrait orientation? (After all, that is what is used on 99% of printouts in real businesses on Earth.) If that is the case it's a shame. I'll have to go back to Powerpoint and it's terrible interface.

- Changing Print Attributes in Keynote 10.1 I frequently use Keynote in portrait mode. I was able to create a custom "Portrait" theme to create the slides, but when I print them they come out in Landscape orientation. In the print window I can go: Presets -> Show Presets -> Page Attributes and it shows me that "Current -> Orientation" is Landscape, but nothing in the list is editable. Is there an obvious way to edit any of the page attributes displayed? Am I the only person who uses portrait mode with presentation software, or has Apple's usability really degraded below that of Microsoft Office and Libre Office to the point they do not have a simple switch between landscape and portrait orientations both for creating the slides and printing them? 585 2
- Keynote cannot print in portrait I am trying to use Keynote in an application which requires portrait orientation. There is a description of how to do this in this blog which says to use the Custom Paper size option. I did this, and it does indeed format it as portrait on the screen. However, it does not rotate it to fit on the printer. It comes out a tall, narrow portrait-format image on landscape paper. All it really needs to do is rotate it. 1519 1
- Apple Pages.app no Auto Rotation option when printing? Apple Preview has this option when printing. Apple Pages doesn't appear to have this option. I have labels that are 4 inches by 6 inches that I wan't to print in landscape mode, just like an envelope is printed... 4 inches tall and 6 inches wide. The only way I can get the text and layout to work is to use Portrait mode and rotate all of the text. Why do we have to rotate all of the text in order to print in landscape? I am feeding the short edge of the label into the printer first not the long edge of the label. If I layout the addresses on the label like an envelope and print the label the text prints as if I had the page in Portrait mode when it's most certainly not. For comparison... who feeds an 8.5 x 11 page into the printer sideways with the 11 inch edge first!!! Very confused here. Switching the dimensions for height and length in page setup does nothing. 395 2

You are using the wrong application to print correctly, Keynote is a video based presentation application which does not print to scale. Instead use Pages which is a dedicated page layout application, the companion to Keynote.
In pages, go to File > Page Setup then select portrait:

This would be the ultimate presentation program if there weren't so many things in it that are trying to shoehorn people into non-standard ways of doing business. If the programmers didn't think of it, (and they CLEARLY aren't business people,) then you have to fight the program to do it. For example, why can't I pick the zoom? Why are my only choices the ones the programmers thought I'd need. They were wrong.

How can I change a slide from Landscape to Portrait? There is not a dedicated setting in Keynote to switch from view to portrait, the procedure below shows how this is done. 1 - click on the Document button on the tool bar: 2 - in the Inspector, click the Document tab. 3 - click on the Slide Size dropdown menu: 4 - click Custom Slide Size:
Portrait Mode in Keynote Last year someone asked how to change a slide in Keynote from landscape to portrait. The answer does not look like anything I see in Keynote 10.0. I don't know what Inspector is. There is no Document pull-down menu. The Slide menu does not have a Size option or a Custom Slide size.
To switch the layout of your presentation, simply flip the orientation to create a captivating visual experience in Keynote. Here's how: Open your Keynote presentation. Click on 'Document' in the toolbar. Select 'Slide Size' and then 'Custom Slide Size.' In the dialog box, choose either 'Portrait' or 'Landscape' orientation.
It would be nice if Keynote supported portrait mode. Also I wish it enables to play mov file after exporting. In a meanwhile, you can do this: 1) export your keynote file to mov (quicktime); 2) Buy an iPhone app called Zoom Player. There is a Free version, so try that first. 3) You can play the mov file with Zoom player in a vertical mode.
In Keynote, click the Document item in the menu bar on the far right. The sidebar should now contain data about the current presentation you're working on. Somewhere in the sidebar you should see a "Slide Size" section. Click the drop-down menu and select "Custom Slide Size".
