What is Game of Thrones? • Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. It is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R. R. Martin's series of fantasy novels, the first of which is Game of Thrones.

Where it is filmed and when it is published ? • It is filmed in Belfast and elsewhere in the United Kingdom, Canada, Croatia, Iceland, Malta, Morocco, Spain, and the United States. The series premiered on HBO in the United States on April 17, 2011, and its seventh season ended on August 27, 2017. The series will conclude with its eighth season premiering in 2019.

The success of the series • The series has received 38 Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series in 2015 and 2016, more than any other primetime scripted television series. Its other awards and nominations include three Hugo Awards for Best Dramatic Presentation, a 2011 Peabody Award, and four nominations for the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama, although its frequent use of nudity and violence has been criticized.

The actors • Of the ensemble cast, Peter Dinklage has won two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (2011 and 2015) and the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Series, Miniseries or Television Film (2012) for his performance as TyrionLannister. Lena Headey, EmiliClarke, Kit Harington, MaisieWilliams and Diana Rigg have also received Primetime Emmy Award nominations 

First story arc • Set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, Game of Thrones has several plot lines and a large ensemble cast but centers on three primary story arcs. The first story arc centers on the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms and follows a web of alliances and conflicts among the dynastic noble families either vying to claim the throne or fighting for independence from the throne. 

Second and third story arc • The second story arc focuses on the last descendant of the realm's deposed ruling dynasty, exiled and plotting a return to the throne. The third story arc centers on the longstanding brotherhood charged with defending the realm against the ancient threats of the fierce peoples and legendary creatures that lie far north, and an impending winter that threatens the realm.

Viewer numbers • The first season averaged 2.5 million viewers for its first Sunday-night screenings and a gross audience of 9.3 million viewers per episode. For its second season, the series had an average gross audience of 11.6 million viewers. The third season was seen by 14.2 million viewers, making Game of Thrones the second-most-viewed HBO series.  For the fourth season, the series was seen by 18.6 million viewers and passedThe Sopranos for the record. By the sixth season the average per-episode gross viewing figure had increased to over 25 million.

Directors • Each ten-episode season of Game of Thrones has four to six directors, who usually direct back-to-back episodes. Alan Taylor has directed seven episodes, the most episodes of the series. Alex Graves, David Nutter and Jeremy Podeswa have directed six each. Daniel Minahan directed five episodes, and  Alik Sakharov, and Miguel Sapochnik directed four each. Brian Kirk directed three episodes, and Tim Van Patten directed the series' first two episodes. Neil Marshall directed two episodes, both with large battle scenes: "Blackwater" and "The Watchers on the Wall".

C'est le plus grand spectacle du monde sur terre. Et si vous ne le pensez pas, l'armée des morts pourrait bientôt venir frapper à votre porte (Shhh GoT followers, je sais ce que vous pensez).

Désolé, mais c'est ce que la série Game of Thrones nous a transformés - un groupe (gonflé à des millions) de téléspectateurs sans méfiance en adeptes fanatiques ! Cela a fait de nous - les gens du 21ème siècle - des semblables préhistoriques de Westeros se saluant avec  Valar Morghulis  et  Valar Dohaeris  . L'arrivée de la saison d'hiver est devenue une occasion en or pour les GoTers de dire le dialogue le plus répété de la série :

Le paysage du divertissement a changé avec cette série télévisée fictive basée sur la nouvelle série "A Song of Ice & Fire" de George RR Martin. Et nous sommes tellement reconnaissants qu'il soit entré dans nos vies. Car nous avons beaucoup appris. Les ennemis diront "cela ne vous a rien appris d'autre que la violence et la tromperie", mais ceux qui l'ont regardé savent que le spectacle célèbre le pouvoir de la fraternité et de la famille. Le loup solitaire meurt mais la meute survit ! Les adeptes du GoT savent que la série a ravivé la croyance d'enfance selon laquelle tout est possible dans ce monde - dragons, sorcières, renaissance, magie noire... vous l'appelez.

Ce n'est pas pour cela que je rédige cet article. Lors de la création de ma prochaine présentation PowerPoint, j'avais un désir ardent de faire en sorte que les téléspectateurs de ma présentation regardent mes diapositives et soient envoûtés par chaque diapositive comme la série télévisée réalisée. Et j'ai réalisé "pourquoi pas". Pourquoi Game of Thrones ne peut-il pas nous inspirer pour créer une histoire de présentation qui gardera le public rivé à son siège ! Entrons donc sur le champ de bataille de PowerPoint et passons en mode GoT :

Oui, les fans de GoT, nous savons que nous avons modifié le dialogue original, mais pour une bonne raison. Ce dialogue viral "Pas aujourd'hui" est apparu dans la série à deux moments cruciaux :

Arya procède ensuite à l'accomplissement de son destin, c'est-à-dire qu'elle ferme les yeux bleus pour toujours. L'épisode épique "The Long Night" mettant en vedette la bataille épique entre les vivants et les morts a ravivé l'espoir que le mal peut être vaincu et que l'espoir ne devrait jamais être abandonné, même dans des situations désespérées.

Le trac ou l'anxiété naissent généralement de pensées exagérées d'échec, d'humiliation ou d'embarras devant le public. Ces dangers imaginaires ne peuvent être vaincus qu'en les contrant par des pensées positives et audacieuses. Croyez en vous que vous pouvez le faire et vous ferez un excellent discours. Lorsque vous avez des pensées négatives d'échec, criez à haute voix... #2- Choquer le public. Ils l'adorent

Il ne peut y avoir de plus grand choc dont les téléspectateurs aient jamais été témoins que lorsque Ned Stark a été tué dans la saison 1. Le choc a été suffisamment fort pour envoyer un tremblement de terre et un tsunami d'émotions dans notre vie. C'était aussi le premier vrai goût du vrai GoT. Nous pourrions détester le fait qu'il ait été tué, mais nous devons admettre que GoT est aimé pour ce traitement choc après choc après choc.

Même si nous savions mieux à quoi nous attendre de GoT, la série a causé un autre choc lorsque Starks a été brutalement massacré lors du mariage. "Pourquoi Starks a-t-il dû supporter autant" est une question que nous nous posons toujours. Les célibataires se demandent encore s'ils devraient se marier. Jamais!

Tous les chocs ne sont pas désagréables !

Game of Thrones est un peu déprimant et sombre, mais il y a aussi les moments "Oui". Dans l'épisode 3 de la saison 8 « The Long Night », Arya Stark nous choque joyeusement en éliminant le Night King. Les fans, dont moi, sautaient de joie.

Une petite marque peut s'attaquer à une très grande marque. Il faut simplement renoncer à croire que les grandes marques sont infaillibles. Après tout, comme Varys l'a dit à juste titre :

#4- Hype It Like Ser Davos

Un personnage qui parle le mieux dans cette série est Ser Davos Seaworth. Il a prouvé ses qualités de persuasion à plusieurs reprises. Dans la saison 4, épisode 6, Ser Davos convainc la Banque de fer de soutenir Stannis Baratheon alors même que Tycho Nestoris, le représentant de la banque n'était clairement pas favorable à prêter de l'or au Baratheon :

Sans Ser Davos, Stannis n'aurait pas eu de chance avec la Banque de Fer. C'est une autre histoire qu'il perd la bataille de Blackwater.

Ser Davos montre une fois de plus ses talents de diplomate lorsque John Snow va à la rencontre de Daenerys pour son soutien dans la défaite de l'armée des morts...

Les présentations visent à convaincre les gens de votre cause, produit ou service. Les gens en général sont réfractaires au changement. Pourquoi devraient-ils passer à votre produit ? Quelle est la particularité de votre marque ? Vous devez connaître vos points forts et les vanter comme le fait Ser Davos.

Quelqu'un dans l'industrie de la présentation qui se rapproche de Ser Davos dans l'art de convaincre est Steve Jobs. Oui! Steve Jobs était le plus grand vendeur du monde. Il était spectaculaire pour communiquer la beauté et la puissance de ses produits et les rendre viraux. Bien sûr, comme Ser Davos de GoT et Steve Jobs du monde réel, vous devez d'abord croire en vous et cela vient du fait de savoir à quel point votre roi/produit est juste ou fort.

Donc, trois choses : un iPod à écran large avec commandes tactiles ; un téléphone portable révolutionnaire ; et un appareil de communication Internet révolutionnaire.

Un iPod, un téléphone et un communicateur Internet. Un iPod, un téléphone… Vous l'obtenez ?

Ce ne sont pas trois appareils distincts, c'est un appareil, et nous l'appelons iPhone.

En analysant ses arguments, il est clair que Steve Jobs ne s'est pas autant concentré sur les caractéristiques du produit que sur les avantages de celui-ci pour le client. Ce n'était pas tout "moi moi moi" mais "toi toi toi". Dites à votre auditoire ce qu'il y a dedans pour eux. Suivez cela et vous gagnerez le cœur de tous, comme Ser Davos du GoT et Steve Jobs du monde réel.

#5- Connaissez vos forces et maîtrisez vos faiblesses

Oui, les fans de GoT ont dû se demander pourquoi Tyrion Lannister n'a pas encore été mentionné. Après tout, il est l'un des personnages les plus aimés de la série et aussi celui qui a livré certains des meilleurs dialogues de tous les temps. Désolé pour l'entrée tardive mais voici le dialogue que vous attendiez :

"N'oubliez jamais ce que vous êtes. Le reste du monde ne le fera pas. Portez-le comme une armure, et il ne pourra jamais être utilisé pour vous blesser." Tyrion Lanister.

Tyrion, un nain et détesté par son père et sa sœur aînée, est le personnage le plus sage (enfin, il a fait quelques erreurs). Sachant que le monde se moquait de lui, il ne s'est pas laissé abattre. Utilisant son esprit et son intellect aiguisé, il a vaincu ses adversaires (y compris son père) et est devenu la Main de la reine Daenerys Targaryen. Il a capitalisé sur ses forces en lisant et en connaissant des choses.

Exploitez vos forces et travaillez sur vos faiblesses. Vous êtes l'expert de votre sujet. C'est votre force. Mais votre faiblesse pourrait être que vous utilisez beaucoup de jargon. Travaillez avec vos collègues et amis pour simplifier votre contenu afin que le public puisse s'identifier à votre présentation.

Ou probablement, votre faiblesse est la conception de présentation. Vous n'êtes pas graphiste. Il est donc compréhensible que vous ne connaissiez pas les astuces pour créer un beau design. Cependant, il n'est pas acceptable de mettre tous les points dans votre présentation. Utilisez des modèles PowerPoint conçus par des professionnels dans un tel scénario. Le graphisme professionnel ajoute de la puissance à votre contenu. Tout ce que vous avez à faire est de les télécharger, de mettre votre contenu dans les espaces réservés et de le présenter en toute confiance.

#6- ne vous vantez pas comme jeoffrey.

La confiance est une chose et l'excès de confiance en est une autre. Jeoffrey Baratheon était l'un des personnages les plus méprisés de la série. Il était un roi cruel et aimait insulter et torturer les autres.

Je n'irais pas jusqu'à décrire les cruautés de Jeoffrey. Son nom est suffisant pour que le sang de tous les adeptes du GoT bouillonne de colère. Il se vantait constamment, "Je suis le Roi" pour prouver sa supériorité. Cependant, son grand-père Tywin Lannister l'a mis en place une fois et à plusieurs reprises. Il rappelle intelligemment son petit-fils…

Pas étonnant, la mort de Tywin est célébrée par les amoureux du GoT et Jeoffrey sera compté dans l'histoire de la télévision comme l'un des pires rois de tous les temps.

Qu'est-ce que cela signifie pour votre présentation :

Établissez votre crédibilité, mais ne continuez pas à ressasser la même corde. Le monologue « moi moi moi » tape sur les nerfs du public. N'hésitez pas à informer le public des prix que vous avez remportés, de votre désignation, mais faites-le de manière gracieuse. Quelques secondes suffisent pour jeter les bases de votre expertise en la matière.

#7- Finir sur une note positive

Elle est la reine du culot. C'est une putain de badass. Elle est la reine des épines à la langue acide. Elle est Olenna Tyrell, un personnage fort qu'on ne peut qu'admirer. Elle ne mâche pas ses mots et même les hommes les plus puissants (prenez Tywin Lannister par exemple) et les femmes (Cersei Lannister par exemple) doivent se taire devant elle.

Vaincue par Lannisters dans la saison 7, elle connaît son destin : l'exécution par les mains de Lannister. Quand Jaimie Lannister la confronte à la fin et qu'il lui dit que Cersei avait d'horribles plans de sa mort mais qu'il l'avait convaincue d'une mort indolore par poison. Olenna donne un coup de poing dur avec ses mots avant de descendre. Elle révèle à Jaimie le choc qu'elle était celle qui avait planifié le meurtre douloureux de son fils et de celui de Cersei, Jeoffrey. Avant son dernier souffle, elle livre la vérité sauvage à Jaimie: «Dis à Cersei. Je veux qu'elle sache que c'était moi. Période. Olenna eut le dernier mot dans la conversation ; comme toujours.

Votre fin devrait être spectaculaire. Celui pour lequel le public se souvient de vous. Celui avant de dire merci et de raccrocher les bottes. La fin peut être une citation puissante, un appel à l'action (mais pas un cliché) ou un engagement personnel comme la nageuse Diana Nyad l'a partagé dans son TED Talk :

Cet océan est toujours là. Cet espoir est toujours vivant. Et je ne veux pas être la femme folle qui le fait pendant des années et des années et des années, et essaie et échoue et essaie et échoue et essaie et échoue. . . Je peux nager de Cuba à la Floride, et je nagerai de Cuba à la Floride.

La leçon ultime de Game of Thrones : la narration gagne !

Game of Thrones n'est pas devenu épique à cause de la nudité et de la violence. C'était un triomphe de la narration. Les personnages riches et multicouches, les rebondissements de l'intrigue, les dialogues percutants, l'action, la tragédie et les émotions ont fait de ce spectacle ce qu'il est aujourd'hui. Si vous ne l'avez pas vu mais que vous lisez toujours l'article en connaissant de nombreux spoilers, allez-y et regardez-le; vous ne serez pas déçu.

Et lorsque vous prévoyez de faire votre prochaine présentation, passez plus de temps à perfectionner votre histoire - le pitch. Pensez à comment vous pouvez le rendre plus intéressant pour le public. Ajoutez des émotions, que ce soit de l'humour ou de l'empathie. Ajoutez de la passion à votre prestation de présentation. Soyez le roi de la scène et gagnez ce jeu de trônes ! Respirez le feu du dragon - métaphoriquement parlant bien sûr !

In Game of Thrones , there are plenty of characters full of secrets and mysteries. There’s Jaqen H'ghar, one of the Faceless Men of Braavos , whose real identity may never be known. Then there’s the lineage of Jon Snow, which remained a secret for almost the entirety of the TV series. Other characters like the Three-Eyed Raven, the Waif, and the Night King are also mysterious in that not much information is divulged about them.

Then there’s the Red Woman, arguably the most mysterious character in Game of Thrones . The Red Woman, known by her name Melisandre, is a recurring character who does everything in her power to help Stannis Baratheon assume the throne up until his death. It was then that she resurrected Jon Snow and became an advisor to him, believing he was “The Prince That Was Promised.”

Melisandre is a priestess of the Lord of Light, who holds many secrets, keeping herself an extremely puzzling character in Game of Thrones . However, if there’s one secret she lets slip, if only to viewers, it’s that she’s not as young as she appears to be. In addition to the Night King , Melisandre is one of the oldest living characters in Game of Thrones . If Melisandre is over 400 years old, how does she stay so young?

First and foremost, Melisandre was a Red Priestess of the Lord of Light . Sure, several people followed the Lord of Light and believed in him in Game of Thrones , but none were as devoted to his cause as Melisandre.

Lord of Light! Come to us in our darkness. We offer you these false gods. Take them and cast your light upon us. For the night is dark and full of terrors.

As a priestess of R’hllor, the Lord of Light , Melisandre believes R’hllor has sent her on a very specific mission to fight in a war to come. Although, being over 400 years old, at the time of becoming a priestess that war was centuries away from happening. If Melisandre lived a mortal life, she wouldn’t be able to fight or have any type of impact in this war that happens hundreds of years in the future from the time that she pledged herself to the Lord of Light.

Since she had a very specific role to play in this war to come, it only makes sense that the Lord of Light would grant her an exceptionally long lifespan and allow her to appear young. This way she would be able to see her part through to the end, which she did.

Although being a Red Priestess definitely extended her lifespan, more than just her devotion to the Lord of Light played a factor in her appearance. Melisandre also wore a very large, ruby necklace, which holds great significance.

Throughout the earlier seasons of Game of Thrones, this necklace appeared to be linked to her religion. Anytime Melisandre performed a ritual or magic , the ruby would glow, hinting that it was somehow connected to magic and the Lord of Light. Although much is never revealed about her necklace, viewers do learn the true purpose of the necklace in a later season of Game of Thrones .

In season 6, episode 1, “The Red Woman,” Melisandre takes her necklace off at the very end of the episode, revealing that without her necklace she is an extremely old woman, over 400 years to be exact. The appearance of Melisandre as a young woman has been a ruse to keep her true appearance and age a secret. Not much else is revealed about her necklace or age, but it’s safe to say that the Lord of Light felt it was important to his cause and Melisandre’s journey that she appeared the way she did to others.

As mentioned earlier, Melisandre can wield magic . She shows this multiple times throughout the series by performing rituals and spells to help Stannis Baratheon on his journey to claim the throne. Much of the magic she uses is controversial or new to people who aren’t familiar with the Lord of Light, but this doesn’t stop Melisandre from using it to achieve her goals.

Being able to wield magic is another factor that weighs into her appearance of being a young woman. Without magic, Melisandre simply wouldn’t have been able to live as long as she did. The magical properties in her ruby necklace, which conceal her age with a glamour, also wouldn’t exist. Although the Lord of Light plays a huge role in Melisandre’s extended life, Melisandre is extremely powerful in her own right as well.

Melisandre comes from Asshai, which is a mysterious city located in Essos , where dark, shadowy magic is more commonly practiced. As such, Melisandre grew up around this dark magic, giving her opportunities to practice it on her own. It was this magic that Melisandre used to kill Renly Baratheon.

Having possession of such dark and dangerous magic makes Melisandre that much more powerful when combined with her devotion to the Lord of Light. Being able to access multiple sources of magic would definitely help Melisandre to imbue her ruby with the glamour that conceals her age. After all, she would need some seriously powerful magic to allow the ruby to continue to work for centuries.

Pedro Pascal Had a Bad-Looking ‘Game of Thrones’ Audition

Pedro Pascal ‘s career launched to new heights after his appearance on  Game of Thrones . And he did so despite the less than impressive presentation of his audition.

How Pedro Pascal was cast in ‘Game of Thrones’

Game of Thrones  fans may remember Pascal being cast in the series as the quick-witted Oberyn Martell in season four. With a little help from his friend Sarah Paulson , Pascal landed the role that would make him famous. But securing the role alone was no small feat. Showrunner David Benoiff was looking for a peculiar mix of characteristics when casting the Oberyn. And all of these traits might’ve been difficult to find in just one actor.

“That was such a tricky role to cast,” Benoiff told Variety . “Oberyn entered the story mid-stream, but required the swagger of a character who had been sparring with the other players off-screen for years. We were looking for an actor with charisma, sexual energy, physical menace and depth. He had to be seductive to both men and women; he had to be someone the audience could believe as a killer.”

Pascal would send his audition tape to Benoiff, who took notice of how low-budget the audition tape was. But the questionable presentation of the audition didn’t matter once Pascal’s performance began.

“First of all, it was an iPhone selfie audition, which was unusual. And this wasn’t one of the new-fangled iPhones with the fancy cameras,” Benoiff said in a 2020 interview with Variety . “It looked like s***; it was shot vertical; the whole thing was very amateurish. Except for the performance, which was intense and believable and just right.”

The showrunner confided that after working with Pascal, he had no doubt that he’d be successful beyond  Game of Thrones.

“Once we saw the entire season there was no doubt Pedro was going to be a star,” Benoiff said. “I thought he deserved more recognition, frankly. Was he nominated for any awards? He should have been. But Dan and I were thrilled that we gave Pedro a job that helped his ascent, because he’s an absolute gem of an actor and a man.”

Pascal’s Oberyn wasn’t destined to last long in  Game of Thrones . The character would end up with the same fate he had in George R.R. Martin’s books, dying at the hands of The Mountain . As much as Benoiff and others adored working with Pascal, they couldn’t let their love for the actor change the direction of his character.

“I mean, we love Pedro. And we loved that character,” Benoiff said. “But his death at the hands of the Mountain was one of our favorite brutal killings from George’s books. Part of the reason people remember Oberyn is because he died so horribly.”

Pascal had been around the film industry for many years. “My life changed. I’ve been getting to see the world. No matter where you go, there’s going to a place where they’re really into  Narcos  and you’re the guy from  Narcos , or the guy from  Game of Thrones ,” Pascal told Entertainment Tonight (via Female First ).

Pacal was even noticed in places where he never thought that he’d be recognized.

“I was snorkelling, and this person kept on looking at me. I remember I got really nervous because I thought there was a shark or something … He’s just, like, coming toward me and without introducing himself or anything, he just pulls out his GoPro and he takes a picture of us. [He just said] ‘Gracias!’ [and I realized I’d been recognized] even floating out at sea.”

Martin's novel Game of Thrones from the series A Song of Ice and Fire , opens with an eerie and tension-filled sequence beyond the Wall. The scene tells the audience how high the stakes are and introduces them to the supernatural threat of the series, known as the White Walkers.

The opening scene sets the tone for the fantasy series as members of the Night's Watch encounter dismembered Wildling bodies arranged in a mysterious, ritualistic pattern in the snow. It's soon discovered that the bodies are positioned in a circular pattern with a line through the center , resembling a symbol. The significance of the scene grows as the series unfolds, becoming a crucial moment for the themes in the show.

There's a haunting undertone that gives fans the notion that a macabre entity is responsible for the arrangement of the bodies. There's a threat to humanity, with blue glowing eyes, though audiences won't fully understand what they saw until much later.

There's a sense of dread and anticipation as the story unfolds season after season. As the White Walkers continue marching south, the characters and fans feel the weight of their presence. Each episode adds tension to the show, letting fans know there's an inevitable collision between the living and the dead. There's a sense that time is running out, and every decision and every action plays into who will live and who will die. The White Walkers are more than villains . They represent the existential struggle at the center of the television series , reminding audiences that there are more harrowing threats in the world than conflicts between houses.

The Pattern of Bodies in Game of Thrones

These supernatural beings have an otherworldly quality; they're meant to represent everything that humans aren't. With their symbolic display, the scene establishes that the White Walkers are a formidable force and remain a mystery to the other characters in the series. The intelligence of these creatures is immediately established and communicates that they have a sinister purpose.

There are several instances throughout the series where the same circular or spiral pattern appears , suggesting a magical connection to the White Walkers. The symbol is seen again in the Season 1 finale, "Fire and Blood," as Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) decides to burn Khal Drogo's (Jason Momoa) body, the witch Mirri Maz Dur, her dragon eggs, and herself. The next instance would be in Season 3, Episode 3, "Walk of Punishment," Jon Snow (Kit Harington) sees the design, this time made up of dead horses, and learns that it's not the first time this pattern has appeared.

In Season 6, Episode 5, "The Door," Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) encounters the Night King for the first time and has a vision of how he came to be. Then, in Season 7, Episode 4, "The Spoils of War," Jon shows Daenerys the caves of Dragonstone, and similar shapes are seen in the paintings. He also reveals that the Children of the Forest used similar patterns, and the White Walkers copied their symbols.

In a behind-the-scenes interview with HBO for Season 7, Episode 4, David Benioff, the showrunner, confirmed the connection between the Children of the Forest and the White Walkers.

"One of the things we learn from these cave paintings is that the White Walkers didn't come up with those images; they derived them from their creators, the Children of the Forest. These are patterns that have mystical significance for the Children of the Forest. We're not sure exactly what they signify, but spiral patterns are important in different cultures in our world, and it makes sense that they would be in this world as well."

This was reiterated by Dave Hill, a writer on the series, who spoke about the symbol in an interview with the New York Post .

"As we saw with Bran and the Three-Eyed Raven, the spiral pattern was sacred to the Children of the Forest, who created the Night King by sacrificing a captured man in a spiral 'henge of stones.' The Night King then adopted the symbol as a sort of blasphemy, like Satan with the upside-down cross."

Foreshadowing The Last War in Game of Thrones

As the series progresses, the political side of the plot becomes more and more intriguing as Daenerys sets sail for Westeros to face Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) for the Iron Throne, which is what the entire series has been leading to. While the majority of the characters in the show are concerned with betrayals and power struggles, the White Walkers are getting closer to destroying the Wall, the only thing separating them from the Seven Kingdoms.

Their arrival is a forewarning of a deeper, existential conflict that transcends personal ambitions for the Iron Throne. They are motivated by their agenda and have no interest in the political scheming of men. As the danger posed by the White Walkers continues to grow, Jon pleads for the fighting to cease and urges the Seven Kingdoms to unite against the common enemy, the army of the dead.

The White Walkers become a catalyst for the formation of unlikely alliances, as realizing the threat they pose forces the key players to set aside their insignificant differences. Of course, this eventually leads to yet another backstabbing move from Cersei. However, the fight for a chair loses its relevance when humanity's survival is on the line. The entire Game of Thrones series is streaming on Max . The spinoff series House of the Dragon premieres its second season on June 16.

Gwendoline Christie Brings Dark Whimsy to the 2024 Met Gala in Doll-Like Makeup and a Custom Margiela Gown

The theatrical look comes months after the 'Wednesday' and 'Game of Thrones' star rocked Pat McGrath's viral “porcelain glass skin” in Margiela's spring/summer 2024 show

Gwendoline Christie was one of the earliest arrivals at the 2024 Met Gala — and one of the most memorable.

This year’s gala may be themed “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion ,” but the British Wednesday actress, 45, kicked off the red carpet by channeling evil queen energy in a dark orange Maison Margiela gown and tulle cape.

One of Vogue ’s official livestream hosts (along with fellow early arrivals La La Anthony and Ashley Graham ) the Game of Thrones alum brought dark whimsy to the carpet with the custom velvet gown, designed by the fashion house’s creative director, John Galliano.

The soft-yet-striking look was complete with a striped, sheer opera coat, per Vogue . According to the magazine, it was created with a "'retrograding' technique, which utilizes variations of thread-work, appliqué, and encrustation from the bottom to the top of a garment.”

Adding more color (and theatricality!) to Christie's sophomore Met Gala look was a pair of mustard Tabi x Christian Louboutin pumps, Vogue reported.

To top off the look, the actress wore her platinum hair in a cloud-like, gravity-defying hairstyle, and sported a soft, doll-like makeup look complete with blood-orange blush placed high on her cheekbones.

The dramatic, whimsical look is not the first time Christie has turned heads in a doll-like Margiela look .

In January, the Wednesday actress appeared in the Paris-based brand’s spring/summer 2024 presentation in an avant-garde ensemble: a translucent rubber dress, which she wore over a dreamy blue corset.

But the stunning look — completed with Victorian curls, sheer opera gloves and white tights — was not the star of the show, but rather the star's doll-like makeup.

Christie’s “porcelain glass skin” makeup was courtesy of legendary makeup artist, Pat McGrath, and went viral shortly after the show .

Furiosa Fashion

Chris Hemsworth avoids both the armored aesthetic of Thor and the unkempt look of his post-apocalyptic warlord character in the upcoming Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga . He does show off a little chest, however, with an unbuttoned shirt underneath a simple tan three-piece suit. Does it scream “Garden of Time”? Not really, but he is wearing a (Chopard) watch.

Can’t Get Enough

This is her… now. Jennifer Lopez proves she still has few, if any, equals when it comes to attending events in precariously revealing clothes. This time around, it’s Tiffany jewels and a silvery custom Schiaparelli gown that leaves little to the imagination and flares outward with wings up top (while trailing a lacy train behind that a couple of tuxedoed assistants have taken great pains to carry and position for photos).

Nothing Bad About It

If this gala is all about looking unflappable in fashions that verge on the absurd, then Bad Bunny has struck the ideal entrance — wearing the first big hat of the night. That puffy medieval headgear, combined with the angular sunglasses, black blazer (apparently still bearing a tailor’s chalk marks), and red-striped pants give him the air of a musketeer (or a matador from the future).

5-Star Fashion

Stray Kids made their Met Gala debut in coordinating Tommy Hilfiger looks that were custom-designed to match this year’s theme, while staying true to Tommy’s All-American aesthetic. Always one to have fun with fashion, the K-pop group turned up in bespoke navy overcoats before doffing them to reveal their matching red, white and blue suits.

Portrait Perfect

One hopes there are no bees inside the Met: in a year when most went literal on the “garden” element of the theme, Nicki Minaj’s Marni dress is absolutely exploding with brightly colored petals. The saturated tones and roughed-in style have her looking like she just stepped out of a Matisse painting.

Slaying the Fashion Game

The Game of Thrones star is no stranger to drama and she delivers on all fronts with this maroon gown, sculpted blond hair and black sheer cape. Forget surviving the red wedding: Christie slays the red carpet.

Delivering on Dapper

There’s no beef with this outfit from Steven Yeun, who paired an embroidered three-piece suit with army-style black boots. And while other stars showed up on the carpet with a date or statement bag, Yeun’s accessory for the night was decidedly more practical: an umbrella.

Model Goes Metal

Model Ashley Graham turns heads in spiky bangs and a custom form-fitting black gown by Ludovic de Saint Sernin. Decked out with metal and Swarovski crystal and Jared jewelry , Graham shared on Instagram that the piece took 500 hours of hand work to bring to life. 

Broadway Baby (Bump)

Did Lea Michele just reveal her pregnancy – and the gender of her child – on the Met Gala carpet? The Broadway star debuted her baby bump in a powder blue dress that has us whipped up in baby fever (or just a cotton candy dream).

Risky Business

Troye Sivan is giving business meets bondage in this Prada fit, which plays off the luxury label’s classic suiting with an edgy twist. Always want to subvert fashion (and music) trends, Sivan’s appearance kicks off a busy season for the popstar, who’s slated to head out on tour with Charli XCX this summer.

A Lofty Lana Look

Lana says yes to an elaborate gauzy headpiece — a custom Alexander McQueen inspired by a similar piece from the late designer’s 2011 retrospective exhibit, “ Savage Beauty .” Instead of deer antlers, this take puts the emphasis on a pattern of thorny brambles that wind around her sand-colored gown and up through the veil.

Not a Barbie Girl

After a year of thinking pink , Barbie director Greta Gerwig opts for all-black (and trousers) on the Met Gala carpet. Gerwig broke box office records with the Barbie film and she’s breaking from tradition here with her monochromatic look, but in our opinion, it’s yes, more than kenough .

Lovin’ on Jack

Jack Harlow makes a return appearance to the Met Gala in a sharp, gray suit with contrast-color lapel. He doesn’t need no whips and chains to work in a theme either, giving a nod to the “garden” dress code with a small bouquet of flowers pin.

Like Sands Through the Hourglass

Singer Tyla may well win the award for most creative interpretation of the theme, stunning as a human hourglass in a sands-of-time-inspired custom Balmain gown that may as well be painted on. An hourglass accessory — who needs a functional purse tonight? — ensures that there’s no mistaking this sublime concept.   

Baila Conmigo

Rauw Alejandro brings reggaeton to the red carpet in another standout Ludovic de Saint Sernin look for the night. This time, the Puerto Rican star goes glam in a glittery disco ball top and cream suit that’s as suitable for the gala as it is for the after-party dance floor.

Challenge Accepted

After showing off fancy footwork on the tennis court in Challengers , Josh O’Connor joins a gala co-chaired by co-star Zendaya in what appear to be floral clogs. It’s a whimsical touch matched by his extra-long tuxedo tails for a vibe that’s rather formal above the waist and anything but below. 

X Marks the Spot

Lil Nas X is no stranger to making a statement on the red carpet but dare we say his look this year is decidedly more… demure? That’s what you get when previous Met Gala looks have included everything from a gold jumpsuit to silver body paint (and not much else). Still, there’s lots to love about this year’s fit, which features a slouchy, oversized silhouette and enough sparkles to light up the room he walks into.

Kim Kardashian is a silver siren in this Maison Margiela Artisanal by John Galliano gown, which features chain and floral accents cut from real mirror fragments. Kim paired the look with a cashmere cardigan, proving that sexy and cozy can seemingly co-exist in one garment.

The Grande Dame

The “B” in Cardi B is for big, bold and bouffant as the superstar rapper (literally) took over the carpet in this extraordinary – and exaggerated – gown. Just how big was this dress? It took a team of ten people to help carry the train and set it down just right for photographers.

Childish Gambino is giving grown-up tycoon in a Nineties-inspired Saint Laurent suit paired with a taupe brown shirt and oversized tie. The Mr. & Mrs. Smith star is clearly taking notes from his hit Prime Video series, which stars Glober as a stylish secret spy.

Spring Awakening

Easter may be over, but Ayo Edebiri brings a basket of blooms to the Met carpet in this fresh and floral dress. The springtime design perfectly captures the night’s ‘Garden of Time’ theme and proves the Emmy-winner is a force to be reckoned with both on and off-screen.

Lizzo Returns

In one of her first major public appearances since a dramatic “ I QUIT ” Instagram post in March, evidently prompted by criticism related to allegations of sexual harassment and creating a hostile workplace, Lizzo hits the red carpet in a funnel-shaped Weinsanto design that has divided some viewers. Her speckled eye makeup, meanwhile, has garnered glowing reviews. 

Stanning Sam Smith

After rocking a racecar driver tracksuit in the music video for “ Desire ,” Sam Smith makes their Met Gala debut in a custom old-world tuxedo by their partner and date for the evening, designer Christian Cowan, that features a sheer chiffon skirt overlay. The singer may have had the quip of the evening: asked by a reporter what they expect from fashion in the future, they replied, “Clothes in my size in stores.” 

Giving Us Something

It’s unlikely anyone will bring a bigger feather boa to this year’s gala than Dua Lipa. She confirms her Radical Optimism with an eye-catching mixture of layers and delicate textures from Marc Jacobs with Tiffany & Co. diamonds. It’s on the busy side, sure, but her confident poses are selling this gothic realness.

Wet and Wild

Did we really think Doja Cat was going to show up to the Met Gala in an Amazon towel ? Despite earlier photos online, the singer and rapper turned up in a Vetements dress, though she kept the fresh-out-the-shower look – the white gown mimics a wet T-shirt, while her makeup (intentionally) features mascara running down her cheeks.

It’s Mister Domingo to You

Not many men were born to wear capes but Colman Domingo is one such red-carpet superhero, sweeping into the event with a black-and-cream ensemble by Willy Chavarria that makes for a strikingly elegant silhouette. Like several other attendees, he completes the presentation with a bouquet of flowers — in this case, white calla lilies.     

Garden of Gigi

While there’s no shortage of flowers on display tonight, Gigi Hadid has taken the idea a step further with a custom white Thom Browne dress that has enough ruffles to resemble a flower in its own right. Even so, it’s festooned with more green vines and light yellow blossoms (and Chopard jewels) — she’s pulling around an entire garden. 

Russell Rules Red Carpet

Taylor Russell stuns in a gorgeous Grecian-style gown that channels her inner golden goddess. The Bones and All actress arrived on the Met Gala carpet sans rumored beau Harry Styles, only further proving that this star can shine all on her own.

There’s no looking past this outfit from Past Lives star Greta Lee, who interprets the night’s theme in a sheer, baby’s breath-inspired dress over (what we assume) is a nude bodysuit. Extra points for the severe bangs and sharp makeup too.

Expect the eccentric from Jeff Goldblum, who tends to dress like he’s headed to a fashion show no matter what he’s actually doing that day. Here it’s a relatively understated (for him) overcoat with white scarf and gloves — opera gear, basically — though with jeweled pins and shades that give him a slight edge of steampunk villain.  

Eternal Sunshine

If the Costume Institute’s new exhibition is titled “ Sleeping Beauties ,” consider Ariana Grande the fairest of them all. Ari walked, nay fluttered , down the carpet in an intricate kaleidoscope-effect dress with exaggerated wings adorning the side of her face. The singer and co-star Cynthia Erivo made their Met Gala appearance to promote the upcoming musical, Wicked , and this outfit hits all the right notes.

Dare to Be Demi

No half-measures for Demi Moore. Tonight the actress is wearing a heart-shaped creation from Harris Reed that’s bristling with arrows — the floral fabric is repurposed silk wallpaper — as well as a sumptuous Cartier necklace. Apologies to anyone else who came as a reimagined Cupid, because this will be tough to beat.  

Escola Es Guapo

It’s a breakout ensemble from the breakout comedian who stole scenes in Difficult People and Search Party and is now dazzling audiences in their unhinged Off-Broadway show Oh, Mary! Wearing all white — veiled hat, tuxedo jacket and bow tie, and a long skirt — they’ve channeled the spirit of a haunted doll, complete with a wicker lamb basket full of carnations.

Elle Enchanted

Since the Costume Institute’s spring 2024 exhibition is called “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” it’s only right that Sleeping Beauty herself would be on the scene in a dress that pays homage to some of the fairy princess’ doting forest companions. Elle Fanning’s ice-like dress is custom sculpted by Balmain. 

Couple Goals

While Fanning first posed for photographers solo, she later reunited on the Met Gala carpet with boyfriend (and Rolling Stone CEO) Gus Wenner, where they shared a sweet embrace. A lovely end to fashion’s fairytale night.

Nintendo will make a formal announcement about its next gaming console, the follow-up to the 8-year-old Nintendo Switch, by the end of March 2025.

The company revealed this plan in a post on X Tuesday, just as it unveiled its latest earnings results and a weak outlook for its new fiscal year 2025.

In its earnings results Tuesday, which covered the company’s results through the end of its fiscal year 2024 in March, Nintendo said it sold 15.7 million Switch consoles between April 2023 and March 2024. Per the company, its sales reached 1.7 trillion yen for the year, up 4.4% year over year, and net profit totaled 490.6 billion yen, rising 13.4%. Both results bested analysts’ estimates, per consensus data from LSEG.

For the current fiscal year, Nintendo is forecasting selling 13.5 million Switch consoles, down considerably from its fiscal 2024 total. Nintendo estimates net sales of 1.35 trillion yen and net profit of 300 billion yen.
