EA Sports FC 24 - Presentation/Matchday Experience Thoughts

Image of Kevin Groves

While the Matchday Experience doesn’t move the needle for excitement levels when compared to the likes of career mode and gameplay, the continued effort put forth by EA Canada over the past few years hasn’t gone without notice. With only a trailer to go off of, we aren’t getting the same amount of information, nonetheless there are some key takeaways from this video. With the video being relatively short with no Pitch Notes Deep Dive blog accompanying it, let’s just focus on the good things as the video was mostly positive in nature.

Player Models & Emotions

Visually, FIFA has been nothing short of stunning since the move to the PS5 and Xbox Series X. From up close, the players seem authentic and true to life even down to their signature tattoos. EA previously stated how their new match capturing system will lead to more authenticity in how players move and feel, so I’d expect them to excel and the video reassures this. Player movement will always suffer until EA implements proper foot-planting but at least in slow motion we can see improvements.

I know most within the community skip cutscenes, but they look really improved this year. This is in part due to the new angles such as the ref cam, but also due to more authentic player emotions. Whether it’s reacting to a referee decision or the moments after the goal, EA FC 24 looks like it captures the emotions better than ever.

New Overlays

If you’re in the States and you happen to catch a game in Spain’s La Liga, you’ll come to the realization that there are so many opportunities to incorporate stats during the course of the match. Unfortunately, the Premier League is still behind in this regard, but EA FC 24 certainly appears to have stepped their overlay game up. The incorporation of xG on goal highlights last year was a nice feature to add but I was really impressed by the stamina/fatigue overlay.

presentation fc 24

As you can see the ball is out of play so it appears that EA has thought this new feature through. You might even be able to toggle it on/off if there are players who find it distracting. Even the subsequent video used a goal kick to showcase some shooting statistics.

presentation fc 24

Matchday Menus & Intros

I’m for as much immersion as possible and that starts before the match. Whether it’s the Champions League anthem or Liverpool’s You’ll Never Walk Alone, the experience is what sets the beautiful game apart from any other sport. Capturing that in a unique way that makes you want to not skip through it is a hard feat. EA has been putting in hours towards towards replicating matchday and it shows. The true test will be how repetitive it becomes and if EA can somehow incorporate new commentary lines.

EA Sports FC 24 Trailer

Bottom Line

Perhaps there wasn’t enough information to warrant a Pitch Notes or perhaps this information is something that is better seen than read. While that’s in the past, there are no doubts that EA Sports FC 24 will look stunning. It’s nice to see them embrace the statistical revolution that’s going on in the real-world so the overlays and advanced metrics give the game that new-age feel. Ultimately, EA FC 24 will come down to the gameplay and how much improved the changes to career mode are , but one thing’s for sure we know EA will always showcase the power of their tech when it comes to visuals.

Pocket-lint

Ea sports fc 24 review: rebranding exercise.

The new FIFA is here - except it's now called FC, and we've been playing it to death.

FIFA is back - wait, no, I've fluffed my lines. FC 24 is here, and FIFA is no more , a licensing scuffle having led to the world's biggest sports game getting a pretty high-stakes rebrand under EA Sports' own name.

If that sounds like a recipe for root and branch change, and a rebuild from the ground up, though, guess again. FC 24 is very much the new FIFA and that means progress and familiarity, just like every year. I've been playing it to death all week, to see how it holds up.

EA Sports FC 24

FC 24 is a decent step forward for the franchise, but is also yet another missed opportunity to actually make substantial technical leaps. If you're a longtime FIFA player, it's more of the same with some welcome tweaks. Platform tested: PlayStation 5

  • Looks great
  • Some welcome changes
  • Neglected modes given some love
  • Gameplay is so familiar
  • A little over-elaborate pre and post-match

The game has changed

The FIFA series has almost been one for iterative changes - an annual release schedule means that major tweaks or redesigns would have to be locked in years ahead of time to avoid disruption, so as I mentioned up top, the name change is not a trigger for anything drastic this time out.

Of course, there are always things EA Sports will point at to demonstrate why this is the best game it's ever made, and these features do always leave an experienced player conflicted.

On the one hand, the latest FC/FIFA game will by default generally be the best one ever, slightly better looking and slightly smoother to play, as a simple result of slow progress.

However, some years will feel like more meaningful steps than others, and FC 24 ends up landing as one of the more modest leaps I can remember, with gameplay that is still often excellent, but little to feel truly new.

New menus and some added staff management mechanics for a few modes are welcome enough, but the on-pitch action is what really matters. New headline features include more in-depth Playstyles that represent the peak of a player's special ability - things like extra stamina or ice-cold finishing to reflect their real-life prowess.

These pop up as little icons when you ask for relevant actions from said player, as a reminder (although anyone familiar with FIFA will know that player traits have seemingly been doing a similar thing for literally years).

There are more accurate likenesses than ever before, too, with new player scans and running animations providing incredibly realistic impressions of the most famous players. Again, this can cut both ways, though - seeing Erling Haaland's weird lope done perfectly before an opponent from a smaller team intercepts him and runs entirely generically can be a little immersion-breaking.

That goes for stadia and kits, too, with loads of faithfully recreated locations and kit lineups doing the hard yards, until you draw Lazio in the Champion's League and discover that they're called Latium due to an agreement with Konami, and you're back in videogame land.

This is harsh, of course - the vast majority of the time you'll have seamless recreations on all fronts, but it does represent FC 24's tendency to do really well on realism, without ever quite making it to the flawless level that it arguably purports to offer.

Inverting the pyramid

Getting back on the pitch, though, FC 24 is fundamentally very familiar to anyone who played much of FIFA 23 - it's got a more deliberate pace than in years gone by, and asks for more patience in your play.

That can mean passing moves but it can also just mean not hammering the sprint button at all times to take advantage of an actual burst of pace, and it slots in a few new options, too.

You can fizz through balls much more now for swerving and aesthetic passes, which can look terrific when you nail the timing.

Ultimate Team has also finally had female players added to its fantasy squad-building foundations, and there are basically no restrictions on mixed-gender teams, which is great to see.

In practice that just means an even wider roster of players to pick from, though, so it again gives the impression of being a welcome addition that doesn't actually change a huge amount.

The basics are still great, though, when FC 24 is on song - its passing feels great, its controls leave it up to you to get things right but have enough wiggle room to generally leave room for creativity, and a well-crafted move still feels absolutely great.

That said, the same old issues are also still here. A laggy online match can lead to hair-pulling annoyance as the ball yo-yos around, and goals that don't feel like your fault on any level are still some of gaming's most frustrating demerits.

If I concede in Rocket League I almost always know that the opposing player out skilled me or pulled off a move I didn't see coming to get around me - in FC 24 it's all too common to feel like you were stitched up by a keeper's AI going sleepy or a random deflection slinging the ball in.

That randomness will never go away - it's too inherent to football itself, but it does leave FC 24 feeling like an exercise in masochism.

The beautiful game

Still, at least while you're smashing your controller with rage at a last-minute concession you'll be able to revel in some really quite nice presentation.

FC 24 looks great, with superb lighting, realistic renderings of locations and players like, accurate song-lists for crowds and a glitzy TV-like run-up to every game.

Don't get me wrong - you'll still be hammering the skip option the whole time once you've seen this all about twice, but for those who care the attention to detail is decent.

Much like the game as a whole, there are gaps - wordless silent press conferences in career mode are laughably awkward, and the smashing in of virtual versions of TV presenting teams is hilariously unnecessary, but these are minor hiccoughs.

For the most part, playing on PS5, FC 24 has been a smooth and sharp experience with impressively short loading times and a lovely sense of occasion both in-play and out of it.

FC 24 is yet another minor evolution for the series, despite what could have felt like a major change in the naming department. It's not certain that a revolution is actually needed of course, when FC's bases are covered so effectively, but it still feels like an annual release schedule might have to offer up more meaningful improvements fairly soon.

In the absence of that sort of major step, though, FIFA addicts and FC 24 newcomers alike will find plenty to like and sink their teeth into in this entry.

EA Sports FC 24 Review – Familiar Football Made Better

New name, mostly the same game.

Avatar photo

EA Sports FC 24 doesn’t entirely reinvent the wheel in its first foray away from the official FIFA branding. That’s not a bad thing though – the array of gameplay tweaks and additions to key modes, combined with some well-needed refreshes to the game’s presentation and menus, has made my time with it more than enjoyable.

If you’ve been a dedicated player of EA Sports’ FIFA titles over the last few years, jumping into FC 24 isn’t going to exactly surprise you. All of what made the former titles so great (and stale at times) is still here, revamped with new branding and some nice new menus. While they are flashy and relatively nice to look at, the actual navigation of these menus is a little finicky – I’m still finding myself following old muscle memory movements to navigate around, but as time goes on that’ll fade away.

presentation fc 24

As a Career Mode aficionado, I was anxious to spend my first few hours with the game checking out everything new on offer. Yet sadly, there’s not a whole lot of new at all. That said, there are some notable small additions that I’ve enjoyed playing around with.

The first of these is having your team adapt to your Tactical Vision. These are specific tactics that your team will work towards performing out on the pitch. They range from focusing on soaking up pressure and playing on the counter, to playing Barcelona-esque tiki-taka football. There are a decent amount of Tactical Visions to pick from, and I like how they give your team a particular identity while they’re out on the pitch.

In order to have your team successfully play your preferred tactic, you need to hire coaches in each main positional department that excel in that tactical style. They’ll then instruct your players in those positions on how to play that style, developing their game to suit your vision. It’s a relatively deep and welcome addition that genuinely does change the way players develop over the course of a season.

presentation fc 24

Each team’s associated with a certain Tactical Vision, and you can scope these out in the new pre-game preparation screen. This enables you to finally look at relevant stats as you come up against an opponent, like their last five results, what kind of tactics they play and key players to keep an eye on. As someone who loves their statistics while playing through a career, I absolutely adore this addition. And hey, you can now equip glasses when customising your coach! Finally.

When it comes time to actually lace up the boots and kick a ball, there’ve been quite a few changes made to the gameplay in FC 24 to get used to. First and foremost, the introduction of PlayStyles alters the way particular players ply their trade. Rather than just having traits that do little to affect the way a player actually performs, PlayStyles (and PlayStyles+) directly affect certain attributes and abilities. Players with the long-range finishing PlayStyle, for example, will get a better and faster connection on the ball when taking those particular shots. Continuing to dominate with a particular PlayStyle will see that player gain the plus version of the PlayStyle, which will make them even better when executing that move.

presentation fc 24

I was particularly impressed with the game’s graphical presentation and general production values, too. HyperMotion V makes player interactions look more believable than in previous entries, and players tend to look and feel a bit more like their real-world counterparts this year.

As well as this, I’m a big fan of the way statistics are used on the field during a game. Whether it’s showing shots on target over the last five minutes or stamina drain on each player – having these little statistical packages pop up every now and again enhanced the experience a lot for me. It’s unique in its own way and ultimately quite a neat addition to the presentation of the game.

My only major gripe with the game so far has been encountering some fairly annoying bugs. I’m hopeful these will be addressed relatively soon, but there’s been a few occasions where I’ve had to reset my game as it locked up within menus. The biggest culprit so far is when trying to fire a coach in Career Mode. The game completely locks up and you’re forced into resetting the game (thankfully, autosave usually comes to the rescue). This was on the Xbox Series version of the game, so perhaps be wary when dealing with tactical coaches until a patch comes along.

fc 24

There have been a couple of significant updates to Football Ultimate Team (which feels incredibly weird to write) that make EA’s cash cow game mode better than it’s ever been. The most prominent of these is the introduction of female players. Even as someone who has a particular disdain for Ultimate Team’s microtransaction-heavy model, this change has made me want to dive back in more than I ever have in previous years.

There’s so much more versatility when it comes to creating teams this year, and I’ve had a blast crafting teams around professional national leagues rather than just focusing on the men’s leagues. It’s unfortunate the vocal minority of the community have taken an immediate distaste to this change, but for me it’s been the one key reason to return back to Ultimate Team every now and again – it’s a great move that changes the way you build out your squad.

As well as this, FUT also introduces Evolution Cards. These cards allow you to upgrade the attributes of a base card, making them better and more purpose-built for your needs. In order to upgrade Evolution Cards you have to meet certain challenge criteria, like playing a certain amount of games with them in your starting lineup or assisting a handful of goals. Fulfilling each challenge criteria will allow you to then level up the card, upgrading the overall level of the card and its attributes. It’s a neat change that allows you to finely tune players that fit within the evolution criteria, and I enjoyed having some extra objectives to work towards during my time in Ultimate Team.

fc 24

FC 24’s career modes have been my other main go-to throughout my time with the game. As I noted earlier, I’ve had a great time playing around with the new tactical visions in Manager Career and seeing them play out. It’s been a nice change to assess how each team I’ve come up against play, and how I’ve then had to adjust my thinking to be aware of their style of play.

Unfortunately, I didn’t find Player Career all that compelling this time around. Having your agent choose target clubs to work towards earning a contract with – and completing objectives to secure a contract – is arduous at best. I’m also confused as to why I couldn’t request to go out on loan or even submit a transfer request anymore. The new system can be fun enough, but taking core features away from the mode makes Player Career feel quite boring when compared with everything else on offer in FC 24.

fc 24

After years of relative neglect, FC 24’s Clubs mode has finally been given a hit of life. Crossplay has been introduced, along with a new progression system that focuses on reputation. Every time you play a match, you’ll gain fans that ultimately contribute to your club’s overall reputation. Leveling up will give you more skilled AI teammates, along with new stadiums to make use of and FUT-styled vanity items to decorate your stadium with.

The Clubs League has also been reworked as well, taking away the punishment of being relegated in divisions and giving teams an unlimited number of matches to gather the points required to get into the Playoff phase. It’s a nice change that takes away some of the stagnation that can be often felt in this mode, and I’m particularly pleased to not have to go through the stress of dealing with relegation and working through a lower division all over again.

Unfortunately I can’t say too much has changed in FC 24’s street football mode, Volta Football, though. As has been the case for a few years now, the mode’s been rinsed and recycled with very little added. I’ll say it every year – there’s a serious missed opportunity here, as even after no major changes for years Volta is still a lot of fun as a getaway from the main 11v11 modes. Just don’t expect much in the way of change.

fc 24

Even so, FC 24 does shine where it matters most and that’s in its gameplay. It feels better than it ever has, and I’ve enjoyed my time playing around with the new tactical options on offer. Speaking of, the newly-added ‘tactical’ camera is excellent, giving you a wider view of the pitch. This view allows switches of play and intricate movement to look and feel particularly good to pull off properly, and I’d definitely recommend giving it a go.

Similarly, I’ve really enjoyed the new presentation packages that play out in each mode as well as the added commentary from Guy Mowbray and Sue Smith, which offer a nice change of pace from series veterans Derek Rae and Stewart Robson.

While it isn’t the reinvention some may have been hoping for, EA Sports FC 24 is a great footy sim that nails the fundamentals. The additions to Football Ultimate Team are good, Career Mode feels fresher than it has in a while and the general gameplay is better than it’s ever been. There’s still no better football game out there.

EA Sports FC 24 New Gameplay Features

EA Sports FC 24 brings a lot to the pitch, including new changes to career mode, game presentation, and even the technology...

Massimo Marchiano

featured-image

EA Sports FC 24 brings a lot to the pitch, including new changes to career mode, game presentation, and even the technology used to create the game. But what about the gameplay? What does EA Sports FC 24 bring to the series in terms of gameplay that's new?

Let's see what EA has in store for their brand new football franchise without the FIFA name.

Passing & Dribbling

Precision Passing  now has a visual indicator signifying where the ball is going before a pass. This means if you need to make a risky pass, you'll have a better idea of where the ball is going before you even attempt it.

Additionally, Swerve Precision Passing , as the name suggests, allows the ball to “swerve” to where you need it. It works great for lob passes when you need to get the ball out of your territory and into possession of a teammate.

Controlled Sprint Dribble enables the player to dribble the ball at a speed between jogging and sprinting while keeping the ball close to their feet. It's great for 1-on-1 interactions, giving you a slight speed boost and ball protection.

Effort Dribble Touch  gives players more animations to avoid defenders. It essentially enables you to be more defensive while dribbling with the ball.

Tackling & Shooting

Possession Tackles  are perhaps the most interesting feature coming to FC 24. Sometimes in FIFA games you try to tackle and steal the ball, but either get flagged for it, or just miss completely while your opponent goes to score.

In FC 24, possession tackles give you a clean way of stealing the ball rom the opponent without incurring any type of penalty. You also don't need to worry about being forcibly switched to another player, as using this ability gives your player the ball, if the move was executed correctly.

Not every player has this ability, though. If they did, all matches in FC 24 would amount to nothing but steals and tackles. Therefore, keep an eye out for players with this skill to build your roster in either Franchise or UT.

Shooting responsiveness has finally been improved, in that it's much faster than before. One thing that always seemed annoying with FIFA was players taking taking way too long to shoot the ball.

Fortunately it's a bit quicker but still feels realistic to the game of football. Overall, it's probably the best improvement coming to the series.

PlayStyles & Playstyles +

We've mentioned PlayStyles  before, but they're probably the biggest game-changer coming to EA FC 24. PlayStyles are unique abilities that players have that give them an edge. Some examples include:

  • Block (+) – More goal-blocking animations (Defense)
  • Dead Ball (+) – Larger aiming line during free kicks
  • Finesse Shot (+) – More precision when performing a Finesse Shot
  • Power Header (+) – Increases ball speed after performing a header
  • Power Shot (+) – Increases Power Shot Speed
  • Speed Dribbler (+) – Faster movement speed while dribbling
  • Stop Tackle (+) – Grants player ability to perform a stop tackle
  • Trickster (+) – Unique movement animations that make player unpredictable

You'll know which players have PlayStyles and PlayStyles+ abilities when looking at their player card. This feature is available in a variety of modes:

  • Co-Op Seasons
  • Ultimate Team
  • Career Mode

EA Sports FC 24 vs FIFA 23: what are the major differences?

EA has ditched the FIFA name but what else has changed?

EA Sports FC 24 vs FIFA 23 box art

After its much-publicised split from FIFA branding, Electronic Arts will forever release its annual "FIFA" games under its own EA Sports FC banner.

The first keeps the numbering nomenclature, however, and is called EA Sports FC 24 - or FC 24 for short.

But what of the gameplay, presentation and game modes, have those changed too? Here we look at all the major differences to give you an idea on just how much of an upgrade you're getting this year.

EA Sports FC 24 vs FIFA 23: cover star

Starting at the beginning, EA Sports FC 24 has changed its cover star from Kylian Mbappé, who has appeared on every FIFA cover for the last three years, to Erling Haaland.

EA Sports FC 24 screen with Erling Haaland

This comes as no surprise really as EA clearly wants to give its new series a different look and Haaland has undoubtedly been the best young striker in the world over the last 12 months - scoring a staggering 52 goals in 53 appearances in his debut season for Manchester City across all competitions. He also won the European Champions League, plus the Premier League and FA Cup in England.

EA Sports FC 24 vs FIFA 23: menus and presentation

The user interface in EA Sports FC is totally different to the last few FIFA games, FIFA 23 included. It features a black background with a menu rail on the left-hand side. This includes all the major modes, such as Ultimate Team and Kick Off.

When you scroll through them, you will be given statistics, information on your team(s), and contextual buttons to click on to get to the next stage or screen more quickly.

Upgrade to smarter living

Get the latest news, reviews, deals and buying guides on gorgeous tech, home and active products straight to your inbox.

This gets rid of the numerous rails you had to switch between in FIFA 23, and makes sure you can get into the game more quickly.

There are a number of other presentation tweaks too - including full renders of the commentary team for the first time. Alex Scott is in there, while Guy Mowbry and former England Women's forward, Sue Smith, join the team.

EA Sports FC 24 screen - Cevitas Stadium

There are new matchday visuals and cutscenes, which include sequences that play at half- and full-time, plus as part of the menu whenever you pause the game.

Finally, bigger Ultimate Team matches will be treated accordingly, with a full, flame-filled match presentation, with fire cannons at the side of the pitch and generally more impressive visuals.

EA Sports FC 24 vs FIFA 23: players, kits and leagues

Even though EA has lost the FIFA licence, it retains the rights to use more than 19,000 real-life player names and images in the game, with many of them rendered for their virtual counterparts.

You can also expect to see all the same teams and leagues, including the latest versions of home, away and, often, third kits. There are actually more leagues this time too, with direct deals with a number of Women's leagues coming into force, including the Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga and Spain's Liga F represented in the game for the first time.

EA Sports FC 24 screen with Jude Bellingham

Player models are better than before too, with a new rendering technology - EA Sports Sapien - using sensors strapped to individual muscle groups during for more realistic motion capture and, therefore, body shapes.

Also, the new Hypermotion V engine uses volumetric motion capture for the first time. This enabled the development team to scan video footage of real matches to analyse and animate player motion during competitive play. Over 180 matches were fully scanned this way, resulting in animation that's far closer to real life - especially for the bigger stars and icons who appeared in those games.

EA Sports FC vs FIFA 23: modes

There have been improvements, new features and enhancements in every mode. You essentially get the exact same modes from FIFA 23, but EA Sports FC 24 elevates them to all new levels.

Pro Clubs and Volta

Pro Clubs has become just Clubs and gets a new season structure with better rewards and promotion system. It also gains cross-platform play for the first time, along with Volta.

Career modes

Manager Career and Player Career are also greatly enhanced too. Not only do you get PlayStyles within each mode - which makes a big difference to progression, as you can train your pro or players to adopt new PlayStyles (see below) - but you now get to sign with an agent, which helps during contract negotiations and transfers.

In addition, managers get to choose a tactical philosophy, such as tiki taka, gengenpress, or park the bus. This allows you then to train your players to better suit that style, and counter other teams with other types of tactics.

To help, there are coaches this year too, who can be hired and have tactical and development skill sets. Some will be better to help players train, others to improve the team's ability to play a certain style.

Ultimate Team

Ultimate Team is by far the most popular game mode and also comes with the single biggest change - female players are being added to the mode. They will be available in packs just like the male players, as well in SBCs, events, and any other UT area. There will also be female heroes and icons.

That increases the player pool in Ultimate Team by around 3,000 extra players, and both men and women can play in the same hybrid teams.

EA Sports FC 24 screen with Sam Kerr

The only barrier to this is that chemistry returns and the women players are obviously from different leagues to the men. However, their nationality will still link across genders, while women who play for the same club will link with their male counterparts. For example, Chelsea Women's Sam Kerr will link directly with new Chelsea signing, Christopher Nkunku.

Other changes to chemistry include the fact that icons will now have a positive effect on cards around them, linking in better and raising other players' chemistry (much like Premium Shapeshifter's do in FIFA 23).

In addition, you will no longer have to modify a player's position to gain chemistry - all of their alternative playing positions will count if you have them in one of those areas in your team.

There will be six game modes in Ultimate Team in EA Sports FC 24, but we're yet to find out some of the newer ones (beyond Squad Battles, Division Rivals and UT Champions).

EA Sports FC 24 screen - Haaland

Last, but certainly not least, Evolutions is a new section in Ultimate Team that allows you to improve a player's stats or PlayStyles during multiple seasons. In FIFA 23, once a player (such as a silver or gold card) no longer has the statistics to be useful, you tended to either sell him or chuck him into an SBC. This time, you can assign him to be evolved, so that every time you play with him and her, you can aim to achieve certain criteria to level them up.

This can be done multiple times throughout the game and doesn't just apply to standard cards. Team of the Week players can also be entered into the evolution process. Also, as you get to choose whether you want to level up attributes or add PlayStyles (and eventually PlayStyles+) you can make that card quite different from someone else's evolved version.

It adds an all-new layer of interaction to Ultimate Team, that's for sure.

EA Sports FC 24 vs FIFA 23: gameplay

There are plenty of changes between EA Sports FC 24 and FIFA 23 on the pitch too.

As well as huge graphical upgrades to the players and even crowd in EA Sports FC 24, thanks to Sapien and a new lighting system, which uses ambient occlusion, player motion helps a game flow better. There is also less latency between button presses and a player reacting - ie. the animation kicking in.

EA Sports FC 24 screen

AcceleRate 2.0 and body types

The ball flight mechanics have also improved, which isn't just a visual enhancement, while Accelerate 2.0 ensures that there are more player body types than explosive, lengthy and controlled.

Now you get seven running styles which will make a big difference on which players you'll want to add to your team in different positions.

You now get lengthy, mostly lengthy, controlled lengthy, controlled, controlled explosive, mostly explosive, and explosive. They have been tweaked too, with explosive especially being improved to be more useful this year.

The other big addition is the aforementioned PlayStyles.

These effectively replace traits and come in three tiers: no PlayStyle, a PlayStyle, and a PlayStyle+. The latter is reserved for special and world class players only, plus your own pros and players that complete the maximum Evolutions.

Most of the traits in FIFA 23 are PlayStyles - such as Power Header and Finesse. Where PlayStyles differ is that they become easier to pull off the higher your player's tier in that style.

EA Sports FC 24 screen featuring Vinicius Jnr

For example, if you have a player with a Dead Ball PlayStyle, you will get a slightly longer on-screen line to see where the ball will go and higher chance for it to follow that path. If you have a PlayStyle+, the line and arc will be longer still, as will the chance of success.

PlayStyles are an excellent addition and make matches far more interesting when you have players in your team with a variety of them.

Precision pass and controlled sprint dribble

There are two additions to passing and ball control. Passing now includes a swerve precision pass, which curls the ball around a defender into the path of a winger, say. While controlled sprint means you can keep hold of the ball more effectively, albeit at the loss of a little speed during a run.

There are also a few new skill moves and celebrations in EA Sports FC 24.

Of course, without the game being available yet, we're yet to try all of the new modes, moves and menus ourselves. We have played a pre-beta build of EA Sports FC 24 and are thoroughly impressed so far. But, that's only a tiny part of the final game.

We'll reserve full judgement for when we get to play the full experience. However, it's clear already that the development team have put their all into this new chapter for EA Sports. And it's very much shaping up to be the biggest leap in the football game series for many years.

Here is what Stormy Daniels testified happened between her and Donald Trump

All eyes are on porn actor Stormy Daniels, who took the stand in Donald Trump’s trial Tuesday and recounted the lead-up to meeting Trump and a 2006 sexual encounter she has said the two engaged in. Trump denies the encounter took place.

NEW YORK (AP) — Porn actor Stormy Daniels took the witness stand Tuesday in the hush money case against Donald Trump, who looked on as she detailed their alleged sexual encounter and the payment she got to keep it quiet.

Prosecutors allege Trump paid Daniels to keep quiet about the claims as he ran for president in 2016. Her testimony aired them very publicly as the presumptive Republican presidential nominee seeks to win the White House again.

Trump denies having sex with Daniels, and his lawyers unsuccessfully pushed for a mistrial midway through her testimony.

It’s the biggest spectacle yet in the first criminal trial of a former American president, now in its third week of testimony in Manhattan.

Here are some takeaways from Daniels’ testimony:

WHO IS STORMY DANIELS?

The case centers on a $130,000 payment to Daniels from Trump’s then-lawyer, Michael Cohen, in the final weeks of Trump’s 2016 campaign. Prosecutors say it was part of a scheme to illegally influence the campaign by burying negative stories about him.

His lawyers have sought to show that Trump was trying to protect his reputation and family — not his campaign — by shielding them from embarrassing stories about his personal life.

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford , told jurors that she started exotic dancing in high school and appearing in adult films at age 23, eventually moving on to direct more than 150 films and winning a roster of porn industry awards.

MEETING TRUMP

Daniels testified she first met and chatted with Trump at a 2006 Lake Tahoe celebrity golf outing where her studio was a sponsor.

He referred to her as “the smart one” and asked her if she wanted to go to dinner, she said. Daniels testified that she accepted Trump’s invitation because she wanted to avoid dinner with her co-workers and thought it might help her career. Trump had his bodyguard get her number, she said.

When they met up later in his penthouse, she appreciated that he seemed interested in the business aspects of the industry rather than the “sexy stuff.” He also suggested putting her on his TV show, “The Apprentice,” a possibility she hoped could help establish her as a writer and director.

She left to use the bathroom and was startled to find Trump in his underwear when she returned, she said. She didn’t feel physically or verbally threatened but realized that he was “bigger and blocking the way,” she testified.

“The next thing I know was: I was on the bed,” and they were having sex, Daniels recalled. The encounter was brief but left her “shaking,” she said. “I just wanted to leave,” she testified.

PAYMENTS FOR SILENCE

Daniels was asked if Trump ever told her to keep things between them confidential and said, “Absolutely not.” She said she learned in 2011 that a magazine had learned the story of their encounter and she agreed to do an interview for $15,000 to make money and “control the narrative.” The story never ran.

In 2016, when Trump was running for president, Daniels said she authorized her manager to shop the story around but did not initially receive interest from news outlets. She said that changed in October with the release of the “Access Hollywood” tape in which Trump bragged about grabbing women sexually without asking permission. She said she learned that Cohen wanted to buy her silence.

MISTRIAL PUSH

Midway through her testimony, Trump’s lawyers moved for a mistrial.

Defense lawyer Todd Blanche argued that Daniels’ testimony about the alleged encounter and other meetings with him had “nothing to do with this case,” and would unfairly prejudice the jury.

The judge rejected it, and he faulted defense attorneys for not raising more of their objections while she was testifying.

Before Daniels took the stand, Trump’s lawyers had tried to stop her from testifying about the encounter’s details, saying it was irrelevant in “a case about books and records.”

Prosecutors countered that Daniels’ testimony gets at what Trump was trying to hide and they were “very mindful” not to draw too much graphic detail. Before Daniels took the stand, they told the judge the testimony would be “really basic,” and would not “involve any details of genitalia.”

While the judge didn’t side with Trump’s lawyers, he acknowledged that some details were excessive. The objections could potentially be used by Trump’s lawyers if he is convicted and they file an appeal.

CROSS-EXAMINATION

Trump’s lawyers tried to attack Daniels’ credibility, suggesting she was motivated by money and that her account has shifted over the years.

“Am I correct that you hate President Trump?” Defense lawyer Susan Necheles asked Daniels at one point. Daniels acknowledged she did.

“And you want him to go to jail?” the lawyer asked.

“I want him to be held accountable,” Daniels said. Pressed again whether that meant going to jail, she said, “If he’s convicted.”

The defense pressed Daniels on the fact that she owes Trump hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees stemming from an unsuccessful defamation lawsuit and on a 2022 tweet in which she said she “will go to jail before I pay a penny.” Daniels dug in at times in the face of pointed questions, forcefully denying the idea that she had tried to extort Trump.

TRUMP IN COURT

Trump whispered frequently to his attorney during Daniels’ testimony, and his expression seemed to be pained at one point as she recounted details about the dinner she says they shared. He shook his head and appeared to say something under his breath as Daniels testified that Trump told her he didn’t sleep in the same room as his wife.

At one point, the judge told defense lawyers during a sidebar conversation — out of earshot of the jury and the public — that he could hear Trump “cursing audibly” and see him shaking his head, according to a transcript of the proceedings.

“I am speaking to you here at the bench because I don’t want to embarrass him,” Judge Juan Merchan told Blanche, Trump’s lawyer. Blanche assured the judge he would talk to his client.

“You need to speak to him. I won’t tolerate that,” the judge said.

On the way out of the courthouse, Trump called it “a very revealing day.” He didn’t address Daniels’ testimony explicitly but claimed the prosecutors’ case was “totally falling apart.”

A JARRING SPLIT SCREEN

Trump’s appearance in court Tuesday, like all other days he’s stuck in the courtroom, means he can’t be out on the campaign trail as he runs for president a third time. It’s a frequent source of his complaints, but Daniels’ testimony in particular might underscore how much of a distraction the trial is from the business of running for president.

While Trump was stuck in a Manhattan courthouse away from voters and unable to speak for much of the day, his rival, Democratic President Joe Biden, was attending a Holocaust remembrance ceremony and condemning antisemitism.

It’s an issue Trump has sought to use against Biden in the campaign by seizing on the protests at college campuses over the Israel-Hamas war.

Whitehurst reported from Washington. Associated Press writers Michael Sisak, Jennifer Peltz, Jake Offenhartz and Alanna Durkin Richer contributed to this story.
