A man pretends to be his crush's boyfriend for a day after the former suffers a rare form of amnesia which lasts for only one day.

Am I the only one who sees this plot as problematic and very creepy?! A stalker takes advantage of an amnesiac and she finds it cute?! Also, I absolutely hate movies that somehow romanticize cheating. I don't care if they tried to fix this in the end, they still cheated! (Spoiler alert. Sorry.) I finished this movie because of sheer determination to finish everything that I have started. I hate myself for watching movies that PISS ME OFF.

We are often tangled, but live as we hate. And what changed us? Surroundings. Society. Only our male protagonist is the most sober, but every choice he makes when he is sober also hurts him the most. But it is enough for me to remember this day. If you figure out how to bless you, you will continue to have a destiny. What is worse, having an unfulfilled dream or no dream at all? As a dreamer, I'd rather have burning hearts than dead dreams. Maybe One Day we will find the place, where our dreams and reality collide. Although there is only One Day , you must do your best to give everything. In the end, at least you still have the happiest day in your life. And this is enough. Let me ring that bell in Hokkaido One Day .

At first I was iffy about the whole concept, especially that there were, without a doubt, unethical choices made. But I think it got better because the characters acknowledged their wrong actions and actually did something about them.

It also got me thinking that who we are are so much of our experiences and memories. Our values, preferences, mentality, etc. are greatly impacted by our experiences. Take away a couple of years from your past and you’re an entirely different person from who you are now with that chunk of past back.

I love how imperfect the characters are and how the movie made me gain understanding of their situation, not without recognizing their faults.

It’s really cute and sad.

Watched the movie and it's really heart wrenching. Still cant get over the ending. So let me just make my own ending here (inspired by Susan Lee). After she walked out from the office, she wanted to know who was that guy filming her at the festival, but then she realized the voice of that guy from the video, so she called Den, but he didn't pick up, and she went back to that building where she worked, she asked the guys who knew Den, and wanted to know where he live, and she went to Den's house. As somebody who has had problems with stalker-like behavior in the past I was a little iffy about the premise of this movie. But it was really well done. The characters are human and relatable which makes the story feel honest. The main charachter Denchai is creepy obviously. But the movie shows that his obsession with Nui is a way to give his life purpose and meaning. Nui who is dating a married man obviously doesn't value herself enough to do otherwise and has to learn what love is. This is not a romantic movie it is just a movie about two people struggling to be happy in life and in love under very strange circumstances.

I love this movie as a Japanese living in BKK.

The metaphor of demolishing Snow Festival structures juxtaposed with Ter san’s perfect act of of loss and revival, which reminded me that the best act in films often happens in silence…

I just wish that the director would at least leave us some idea of where were Nui going off when she cried after watching the video. I hate suspense!

I want to see this movie. Though the plot seems to be familiar. I could surmise what happens in that “one day” getting together for an introvert kind of IT wizard. How he unfold his love to his dream girl. It entails a romantic scene and how they accept their feelings for just “one day”. One day seems to be eternity for lovers like the two. They don’t want to have another day for that momentous event. Wanna bet?

I like the concept of the One Day and how the chance to spend a full day on your wish. It shows us the importance of a day. It’s nice that they made it realistic.

I have not seen a Thai rom-com ever. Amnesia is a very overused device already. As well as wearing big glasses and big dentures to signify geekiness. But wow, a 4/5 for you. Is it the acting that you loved most? 🙂

I think despite the overused plot about Amnesia, they tried to embrace it rather than pretending it’s original. It’s actually how they try to do romance in a romantic yet realistic way that made me like it a lot. Acting was flawless 🙂

Sounds interesting. I would want to watch this movie because of Hokkaido, though. I often watch films not for the story but for the setting. I hope to visit Japan soon. 🙂 But the story seems something I’d also like to see how it will unfold.

This sounds like a lovely film and its so interesting to me how Chantavit really dedicated himself to the role with all the changes he made to his appearance (false teeth?!). Seems like a sweet love story, I know there were times when I was younger that I would’ve loved to have one day with my crush. Great review, love!

Netflix Romance One Day Is an Irresistible Emotional Roller Coaster

A lot happens in the first two decades of adulthood. We learn to live on our own and pay our own bills and build our careers. We dodge or succumb to temptations, accountable first and foremost to ourselves. We sign leases and maybe, eventually, take on mortgages. For many, love leads to marriage or, at least, cohabitation. We measure our convictions and ideals against hard-won experience. We have kids or, for a million different valid reasons, don’t. With any luck, by the time we hit 40, we’ll have forged a path we can feel good walking for the rest of our lives.

This second coming-of-age is the subject of One Day , a charming and perceptive Netflix dramedy that debuts on Feb. 8. The series is also a love story with a controversial ending, as millions who read the megahit novel by David Nicholls or watched the disappointing film adaptation starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess are already well aware. But it’s lead writer Nicole Taylor’s patient attention to the two protagonists’ evolution from wide-eyed students into adults weathered by life’s vicissitudes, much more than the will-they-or-won’t-they plot, that defines this lovely retelling. Even if you don’t like the destination, it’s a journey worth taking.

Spanning an eventful 19 years, the story opens hours after Dexter Mayhew (Leo Woodall from The White Lotus ) and Emma Morley (Ambika Mod, who was so wonderful in This Is Going to Hurt ) graduate from the University of Edinburgh, on July 15, 1988. They’re as different as two freshly minted alums of the same school could possibly be. Dex is the campus heartthrob, a classically handsome, posh Londoner who majored in partying and is looking forward to a year of travel. The star of the English department, Emma is a serious student from humble Leeds who’s active in multiple leftist causes. She wants to change the world; his only vision for the future involves fortune and fame. Though they’ve seen each other around—she in particular has noticed him—they meet for the first time at a big post-graduation bash and wind up going back to Emma’s place together. An abortive one-night stand blossoms into an unlikely best-friendship.

From there, One Day checks in with the pair on every subsequent July 15, devoting all but the last two of its 14 episodes to a single 24-hour period. Dex and Emma’s lives diverge. For a while, he coasts on his looks and charisma, as she works a series of day jobs that leave little time for her true passions. Then she slowly comes into her own, as he flails when confronted with the first real hardships of his formerly easy life. They have romances with other people but never resolve the feelings they have for one another, which flare up on Greek beaches and in Parisian apartments. They grow apart and reunite and inspire each other and make each other livid. Sometimes they’re together on the anniversary of their first encounter, sometimes not.

This structure could come off as a gimmick, and in One Day the movie—which races from one July 15 to the next, sacrificing character development in its haste to check off plot points—it does. But the series uses its more generous runtime to dig deep into the growing pains of early adulthood and how they shape the people Emma and Dex are becoming. As different as they are, and as often as they fall out, it’s always clear why these particular opposites attract. Woodall imbues Dexter with hints of sensitivity. Mod, in the harder of the two roles, plays Emma as an intellectual who’s neither nerdy nor prissy, and capable of having fun. Theirs is that alternately magical and impossible kind of friendship that expands horizons and unites antithetical ways of living. His belief in her brilliance fills her with confidence; her rigor nudges him out of complacency.

The ending, which doesn’t quite earn its abruptness and, worse, frames one character primarily as a vehicle for the other’s development, remains a problem. (A breezy Valentine’s Day binge this is not.) But everything that leads up to it, from all the witty banter to the empathy the show extends even to jealous boyfriends and angry exes, is enjoyable enough that the finale detracts less than you’d think from the overall experience. The soundtrack, packed with Britpop bangers and indie ballads timed to coincide loosely with the date of each episode, is a delight unto itself. One Day understands growing up as an adventure to be embraced, no matter where it leads, and renders each moment so immersively that Emma and Dexter become avatars for all of us.

• This is a story about an IT worker called Denchai who doesn't get along with his co-workers well.He falls in love with one of his co-worker who he thought was different from others called Noui, apparently, the person is an adulterer with her boss who is already married. Then one day, they all went on a trip to Japan and at the end of the trip, Noui decided to commit suicide due to recently discovered that her boss will not get a divorce with his wife but failed and resulted in her losing her short term memory for a day. Denchai then decides to put this opportunity to good use by telling Noui that they are in love.

Film ini menurut saya sangat bagus bro, tapi sayangnya endingnya gantung. Cerita ini mengingat saya pada teman saya dikampus yang anak IT dan anak manajemen yang jadi pengagum rahasia. Menonton pilem ini seakan-akan kita juga berada didalamnya. Setelah nonton film ini saya berharap akan muncul yang part 2 nya untuk melihat kejelasan hubungan si nui sama si cowok culun itu. Setelah nonton saya juga merekomendasikan film ini kepada teman-teman saya. Biar mereka merasakan apa yang saya rasakan setelah menonton film ini. Btw teman-teman saya pun kesal bukan main. Nanggung, gantung, sad ending, penasaran dsb tergabung jadi satu setelah nonton film ini.

Endingnya gantung sih, tp ga setuju juga kalo dibilang sad ending. Kuncinya ada di video yg ngga dihapus si Den, pas lagi liat video itu kan Nui nangis, terharu ngeliat dirinya sendiri bisa sebahagia itu meskipun tanpa Top. Di video itu Nui keliatan pake jaketnya Den, ya meskipun Nui ga tau itu jaket siapa tp di video itu Den sempat ngomong sesuatu dalam bahasa thailand, artinya Nui bisa tarik kesimpulan kalo dia pergi sm salah satu cowo dari kantornya. Siapa sih cowo yg selama ini selalu berusaha ngasih apa yg Nui butuh, mulai dari tmpt parkir, lagu2 klasik yg Nui sering denger, sampe rapihin meja kerjanya Nui. Cowo yg mendadak resign setelah pulang dari darmawisata di Jepang. Mungkin ga sih cowo ini juga yg wujudin keinginan Nui buat bisa liat festival salju atau dapetin koleksi terakhir mainan yg Nui cari2 selama ini.

With some people, we are destined to become lifelong friends. It can’t be planned that way. Chance plays a role. There is an underlying harmony that persists despite the whims of fate. When childhood sweethearts marry after not seeing each other for 30 or 40 years, it makes perfect sense to me. The instinctive understanding is there.

"One Day" is a film based on the David Nicholls best-seller about a boy and girl who graduate from the University of Edinburgh on July 15, 1988, and spend the night together. The story follows them by dropping in on July 15th of their lives for year after year, which is a useful device, because it eliminates the need to show us the events of the other days of their years. Success, failure, marriages, divorce, can take place off-screen if necessary. What matters is their accumulating effects.

Dexter ( Jim Sturgess ) is a twit. In the 1970s, he might have been known as a Hooray Henry. Emma ( Anne Hathaway ) is an earnest, hard-working girl. Dexter is upper-class. Emma is middle-class. Dexter goes into television production. Emma gets a job as a waitress in a Tex-Mex restaurant in London I believe I have actually dined at. It wasn't bad. Dexter becomes famous quickly and fades inexorably because there is really nothing there. Emma becomes obscure quickly and only gradually becomes successful because she persists in believing in herself and her gift for writing.

Life has its way of bringing them together for periodic updates. Some of these meetings are intentional, some accidental. The thread is never broken, not even after Dexter marries, and Emma takes up with Ian ( Rafe Spall , son of Timothy). Since Emma and Dexter are both beautiful people, there is no imbalance there. It is all in character. Emma has it.

The film depends on a reliable fictional element, the redeeming power of the love of a good woman. Dexter is a superficial fool who descends through ever-lowering levels of humiliation on TV, cable and the Internet, until he has been reduced to a punchline. Emma stays her course. Her persistence and success are like a rebuke to Dexter. But it is important for us, and Emma, to realize that he is fundamentally a good person at heart — potentially.

The movie tells their story in a palatable rom-com manner, much enriched by its locations in Edinburgh, London, Paris and elsewhere. Such characters never live in forlorn places. The film is carefully crafted to make even its sad moments seem not all that bad, and it modulates its progress toward happiness without unseemly haste. But it unfolds as it must: A film cannot begin with two such attractive people and follow them for years into unhappiness and misery. Every single joyous love story ends in death if you follow it long enough. The movies make life easier for us by usually stopping in the middle.

In a season of movies dumb and dumber, "One Day" has style, freshness, and witty bantering dialogue. Anne Hathaway is so attractive that she would be advised to sometimes play against type (the eyeglasses she wears at the beginning are a bit over the top). Jim Sturgess contributes the film's most versatile performance, one that depends on exact timing and control of the balance between pathos and buffoonery. It's a decent night at the movies, if however a letdown after " An Education ," the previous film by Lone Scherfig .

Why July 15? That's St. Swithin's Day, although Dexter and Emma eventually find it has a more direct relevance.

“What are days for? Days are where we live. They come, they wake us, time and time over. They are to be happy in. Where can we live but days?”

A limited series adaptation of a 2009 novel, which was previously adapted into an averagely successful 2011 film, wouldn’t sound like the most exciting story on paper. However, the Netflix show “One Day” proves expectations wrong. Based on the novel of the same name by David Nicholls, the streaming adaptation of “One Day” follows the friendship and love story of Emma (Ambika Mod) and Dexter (Leo Woodall) over the course of almost two decades. Led by two charming performances, “One Day” breathes new life into the romantic comedy genre, providing a touching watching experience.

“One Day” consists of fourteen episodes, spanning from 1988, the date Emma and Dexter meet for the first time, to 2007. Besides the two last episodes, which make multiple-year jumps, the other twelve only focus on one year at a time, following from the beginning of Emma and Dexter’s love and their intertwined storylines. The episode format is engaging, as the audience can grow alongside the characters and feel the importance of Emma and Dexter’s relationship. At just under seven hours, “One Day” is the perfect bingeable show.

While common narrative techniques advise that showing is better than telling, “One Day” flips this advice on its head, sacrificing action for detailed character study. The series doesn’t show many big plot points or characters’ immediate reactions to them, but rather focuses on their lingering emotional effects. As such, the audience feels everything the same way as the protagonists do, becoming further attached to the duo.

The show’s success can be attributed to its two leading performances. Mod and Woodall’s acting is fresh and electric, and the two come across as veterans of the rom-com genre. The chemistry between them is full of longing and tenderness, which makes watching their journey all the more enthralling.

Compared to the movie, the series format allows “One Day” to spend more time developing its characters. Another welcome change from the book is the casting of Ambika Mod, a British actress of Indian ancestry, whose self-deprecating humor and underlying vulnerability make her an important core of the series. Because of the lack of representation of women of color in the genre, Mod herself has talked in an interview about the doubt she experienced about her lead role before the show began filming. While the show doesn’t heap extra focus on Emma’s background and family, the casting still remains an integral aspect of the series.

The script balances passion with witty humor and banter in a fresh and exciting manner. “One Day” is perfect for fans of other British rom-coms such as “Notting Hill” and “About Time.” One cast member of “Notting Hill,” Tim McInnerny, even stars in “One Day” as Dexter’s father. The series also has a nostalgic quality, enhanced by its focus on the ’90s, that may automatically increase its appeal for many.

Another highlight of “One Day” is the soundtrack. The songs in each episode are carefully placed, corresponding harmoniously to the storyline and characters’ emotions. The lyrics tend to voice what the characters cannot, such as when “Iceblink Luck” by the Cocteau Twins plays at the end of the third episode. The line “I think you’re in her heart” plays as the camera lingers on Dexter after he and Emma painfully part once more without expressing their true feelings.

The series’s filming and cinematography also highlights Emma and Dexter’s connection. One standout is the prominent eye contact between the two love interests, which makes the impossibility yet inevitability of their romantic relationship even more palpable.

“One Day” is refreshing because it takes itself seriously. While many consider the rom-com genre dead, the show proves to be an exciting addition. By mixing in heavier topics such as personal growth, public pressure, and the death of a parent with the ongoing thread of loving and longing, “One Day” presents a new example of what a romantic comedy can be. By the end of the series, the viewer will be wishing to start it over again, to spend a bit more time with the charming Emma and Dexter.
