नई दिल्ली. अज़ीम प्रेमजी (Azim Premji) भारत की एक ऐसी शख्सियत हैं, जिन्हें लोग बिजनेसमैन के तौर पर कम और परोपकारी दानवीर के तौर पर ज्यादा जानते हैं. प्रेमजी भारत की टॉप IT कंपनियों में से एक विप्रो (Wipro) के फाउंडर हैं. विप्रो की नेटवर्थ 3 लाख 46 हजार 537 करोड़ रुपये है (30 अगस्त 2021 को). एक छोटी-सी कंपनी कैसे लाखों करोड़ की मल्टी नेशनल कॉर्पोरेशन (MNC) में बदल गई, इसे समझने के लिए आपको जानना होगा अज़ीम प्रेमजी के जीवन का सफर. पद्मभूषण अवार्ड से नवाजे जा चुके प्रेमजी के जीवन के सफर में सादगी, ईमानदारी, साहस और मेहनत के कई किस्से जुड़े हुए हैं.

बिजनेसमैन के घर पैदा हुए अज़ीम प्रेमजी प्रेमजी को जानने से पहले जरूरी है कि उनका पारिवारिक इतिहास समझ लिया जाए. अज़ीम का जन्म एक बिजनेसमैन के घर हुआ था. उनके पिता मोहम्मद हाशिम प्रेमजी एक नामी चावल कारोबारी थे. बर्मा (अब म्यांमार) में उनका चावल का बड़ा बिजनेस था, जिसके चलते उन्हें राइस किंग ऑफर बर्मा (Rice King of Burma) कहा जाता था.

वो बर्मा (अब म्यांमार) से भारत आए और गुजरात में रहने लगे. गुजरात आकर भी उन्होंने चावल का कारोबार शुरू किया और धीरे-धीरे उन्हें भारत के बड़े चावल कारोबारियों में गिना जाने लगा. कहा जाता है कि 1945 (जब भारत आज़ाद नहीं था) में अंग्रेजों की कुछ नीतियों की वजह से उन्हें अपना चावल का कारोबार बंद करना पड़ा. अज़ीम प्रेमजी के पिता जी ने 1945 में वनस्पति घी बनाने का शुरू किया और एक कंपनी बनाई जिसका नाम था- वेस्टर्न इंडियन वेजिटेबल प्रॉडक्ट्स लिमिडेट (Western Indian Vegetable Products Limited). यह कंपनी वनस्पति तेल और कपड़े धोने वाला साबुन बनाती थी.

इसे इत्तेफाक ही कहा जा सकता है कि इस कंपनी की स्थापना अज़ीम प्रेमजी के जन्मवर्ष में ही हुई. अज़ीम का जन्म 24 जुलाई 1945 को हुआ तो कंपनी की स्थापना 29 दिसबंर 1945 को हुई.

विदेश में पढ़ रहे थे, मगर… चूंकि अज़ीम प्रेमजी के परिवार की आर्थिक हालत अच्छी थी, तो शुरुआती जीवन में पढ़ाई के दौरान उन्हें कोई दिक्कत नहीं आई. मुंबई में स्कूली शिक्षा ली और फिर इलेक्ट्रिकल इंजीनियरिंग (Electrical Engineering) करने अमेरिका स्थित स्टैनफोर्ड यूनिवर्सिटी (Stanford University) चले गए. उस समय अज़ीम प्रेमजी की उम्र 21 वर्ष थी, लेकिन उनके साथ कुछ ऐसा होने वाला था, जिससे उनकी जिंदगी पूरी तरह बदल जाने वाली थी.

बात 1966 की है, जब स्टैनफोर्ड में पढ़ाई करते समय उन्हें पता चला कि उनके पिता का देहांत हो गया है. अज़ीम प्रेमजी को स्वदेश लौटना पड़ा.

परीक्षा की घड़ी में डिगे नहीं अज़ीम प्रेमजी के लिए यह वक्त बेशक मुश्किल-भरा था. कदम-कदम पर उनके भरोसे और साहस की परीक्षा हो रही थी. मात्र 21 वर्ष की उम्र में अज़ीम प्रेमजी ने कंपनी की कमान खुद संभालने का फैसला लिया. इस फैसले का विरोध किया इसी कंपनी के एक शेयरहोल्डर ने. उसने कहा कि 21 साल का लड़का, जिसे खासकर उस काम का कोई अनुभव नहीं है, कंपनी को संभाल नहीं पाएगा. यह बात हालांकि 21 वर्षीय युवक का हौसला डिगा सकती थी, लेकिन अज़ीज प्रेमजी ने इसे एक चैलेंज के तौर पर लिया और कंपनी की कमाल संभाली. उन्होंने कंपनी के कार्यक्षेत्र को काफी बढ़ाया.

IT कंपनी Wipro का उदय 1977 तक कारोबार काफी फैल गया और अज़ीम प्रेमजी ने कंपनी का नाम बदलकर विप्रो (Wipro) कर दिया. सन् 1980 के बाद एक बड़ी आईटी कंपनी आईबीएम (IBM) भारत से कारोबार समेटकर निकली तो अज़ीम प्रेमजी ने अपनी दूरदृष्टि से पहचान लिया कि उस क्षेत्र में आने वाले समय में काफी काम होगा. फिर क्या था…

Wipro ने एक अमेरिकी कंपनी सेंटिनल कंप्यूटर्स (Sentinel Computers) के साथ मिलकर माइक्रोकंप्यूटर्स बनाने का काम शुरू कर दिया. सेंटिनल कंप्यूटर्स के साथ टेक्नोलॉजी शेयरिंग का एग्रीमेंट था. कुछ समय बाद विप्रो ने अपने हार्डवेयर को सपोर्ट करने वाले सॉफ्टवेयर बनाने का काम भी शुरू कर दिया.

कार पार्किंग वाला दिलचस्प किस्सा अज़ीम प्रेमजी अपने ऑफिस परिसर में जहां अपनी कार पार्क करते थे, एक दिन किसी इम्प्लॉई ने वहां कार पार्क कर दी. जब ये बात कंपनी के अधिकारियों को पता चली तो उस जगह को सिर्फ प्रेमजी की कार पार्क करने की जगह घोषित कर दिया गया. ये बात जब अज़ीम प्रेमजी को पता चली तो उन्होंने इस रूल का विरोध किया. उन्होंने कहा, “वहां कोई भी अपनी गाड़ी पार्क कर सकता है. यदि मुझे अपनी गाड़ी वहां पार्क करनी है तो मुझे दूसरों से पहले ऑफिस आना चाहिए.

दानवीर कर्ण सी है परोपकारी की गाथा हम सब दानवीर कर्ण के बारे में जानते हैं. उनके पास जो भी मांगने आया, वो कभी खाली हाथ नहीं लौटा. अज़ीम प्रेमजी ने अपनी कमाई का मोटा हिस्सा परोपकारी कार्यों में लगाया. वे अपने हिस्से के 60 से ज्यादा शेयर उनके नाम से चल ही फाउडेंशन के नाम कर चुके हैं. यह संस्था भारत के कई राज्यों में स्कूली शिक्षा से लेकर कई अन्य कार्यों में जुटी है.

प्रतिदिन 22 करोड़ रुपये का दान अज़ीम प्रेमजी ने 2019-20 में परोपकार कार्यों के लिए हर दिन करीब 22 करोड़ रुपये यानी कुल मिलाकर 7,904 करोड़ रुपये का दान दिया.

But how much do you really know about the rich kids of India, other than from news about their fancy weddings and lifestyle? Mukesh Ambani , who is the richest man in India and the 13th richest man in the world , will at some point have to hand over the reins of Reliance in the hands of an heir. Lucky for him, two of his three children have already begun working to increase the family business. In fact, in the next few years, the biggest Indian corporations will see the next generation of leaders. Here are the ones you should keep an eye out for:

Mukesh Ambani’s eldest son, Akash Ambani has already begun creating ripples into his father’s massive empire. Akash holds a degree in Economics from Brown University. He currently sits on the Board of Directors of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd and is also the Chief Strategist and heads business development of the company. Under his guidance, Jio has acquired over a dozen tech startups that work with AI, last-mile delivery and music streaming. In fact, since its launch in 2016, Jio is among the country’s biggest mobile carriers. And its unbelievably low rates has put its competitors at the risk of pulling down their shutters. Considering that he is the heir to the richest man in India, his wedding to diamond heiress Shloka Mehta had guests like Google CEO Sundar Pichai to former UN General-Secretary Ban Ki-moon and Bollywood’s biggest stars in attendance.

Akash’s twin, Isha Ambani, also plays just as big a role in her father’s massive empire. Isha has done her double majors in psychology and South Asian studies from Yale University. Before assuming her role in her father’s massive empire, she worked as a business analyst at global consultancy firm McKinsey & Co. Inc. for a few months. Currently, she overlooks the branding and marketing aspect of Jio. But she is more involved with the Reliance Foundation. She recently played a pivotal role in building a partnership between Jio and the Connected Women Program at GSMA, a global group of mobile carriers, to help Indian women gain digital access. Moreover, in 2016, she also launched the company’s online fashion portal, Ajio.com. Her wedding to Anand Piramal also took place in late 2018, just a few months before Akash. The celebrations featured private performances by global superstar Beyoncé and John Legend.

Rishad Premji is the son of billionaire Azim Premji. He succeeded his father as the executive chairman of Wipro, which is India’s fourth largest software service provider, in July last year. He holds a bachelor's degree in Economics from Wesleyan University as well as an MBA from Harvard. Rishad joined his father’s empire in 2007 as the Chief Strategy Officer. Under his leadership, Wipro acquired a lot of tech firms. In fact, it is among the most aggressive Indian IT services companies which has spent over $1.14 billion to buy five firms. Rishad is also the mastermind behind the $100 million Wipro Venture fund, which has invested in multiple startups across India and other countries.

38-year-old Adar Poonawala is the son and heir to the 12th richest man in the country, Cyrus Poonawalla. He studied at the University of Westminster and assumed his father’s office in 2011. For those of you who don’t know, Serum Institute is the world's largest vaccine manufacturer by number of doses produced. It was under Adar’s leadership that Serum began exporting its products globally. Most recently, Adar set up Poonawalla Finance to provide loans to low income consumers and small businesses. Within four moments of starting, the company has already lent $110 million. Other than that, the company is also working towards launching new low-cost vaccines for diseases like dengue and pneumonia. He also owns the Poonawalla Stud Farms, which has won 13 Champion Breeders' Awards. Adar is married to philanthropist and fashion enthusiast Natasha, who is often seen chilling with the biggest Bollywood celebrities.

Roshni is the only child of the sixth richest man in the country, Shiv Nadar, founder of HCL Technologies Ltd. Despite being among the richest people in the country, Roshni is quite the philanthropist. She studied communication from Northwestern University, with a focus on radio, television and film. Before joining her father’s empire, she worked with channels like Sky News in London. Now, she heads the unlisted private holding company, which holds 50 per cent stake in HCL Technologies Ltd and HCL Infosystems Ltd. Reports suggest she is in charge of making strategic decisions, handling the governance structures, treasury, risk and portfolio management. She also serves as the Trustee of the Shiv Nadar Foundation, which has established institutions like the Shiv Nadar University, VidyaGyan Leadership Academies, Shiv Nadar Schools, Kiran Nadar Museum of Art and Shiksha, which aims to eradicate illiteracy in rural India. Roshni is married to Shikhar Malhotra, who is the Vice Chairman of HCL Healthcare. The couple have two sons.

Aditya is the sixth-generation successor of the Burman Family that owns and operates Dabur. The family ranks 13th on the Forbes 2019 list of the 100 Richest Indians. He studied Chemistry from the University of Kansas and joined Dabur Pharma Limited as an intern in 2003. Recently, his father Anand Burman stepped down as the Dabur’s Chairman to make way for his cousin Amit. And Aditya was given a seat on the Board of Directors in July 2019. He is also a Director on the board of Oncquest Laboratories Ltd., which focuses on Oncology and Genetics. He has been instrumental in streamlining operations, strengthening its research function, and giving it a pan-India presence to drive growth. Besides that, Aditya is also the director for Dabur Nepal Pvt Ltd as well as the President of the Delhi Chapter of Entrepreneurs’ Organization, which is a global network exclusively for entrepreneurs. The Delhi-based scion also supports several charities in the health care and awareness space. Aditya is married to Shivani Sud, a trained classical Hindustani singer belonging to a Hoteliering family. Their pre-wedding celebrations involved the creation of an entire Matrix film set.

Ashni is the daughter of billionaire Kishore Biyani, who owns the Future Group and ranks 80th on the Forbes 2019 list of 100 Richest Indians. She studied Textile Designing at Parsons School of Design as well as Stanford University. Currently, she is the Managing Director of the retail giant. In July, she launched the company’s new product, Voom, which is a fashion-first detergent. Since Pantaloons shut down, Future has shifted its focus to consumer goods and in the last four years, they’ve launched over two dozen new brands. Under Ashni’s leadership, Future Consumer is taking on large Indian and multinational FMCG rivals and using modern retail techniques as well as digital commerce as key distribution platforms.

Kavin Bharati is the son of Sunil Bharti Mittal- the founder and chairman of the Bharti Enterprises Limited. Just like his father, Kavin is also an entrepreneur. Unlike all the others future business tycoons, Kavin has not joined in the family business. He holds a master's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Management from the Imperial College London. While studying there, he worked as an intern in McLaren, Google and Goldman Sachs. He created various applications like AppSpark and MoviesNow before going on to launch Hike, the instant messenger app, in 2012. Within 3 years, Hike has become the largest Indian internet company in terms of users—with a tally of 100 million users.

The eldest daughter of Kumar Mangalam Birla, Ananya also declined to join her father’s business empire. She went to Oxford to obtain her bachelor’s degree in economics and management, but dropped out soon after. Currently, she is signed with Universal Music and has released one EP and over nine singles. She is also the founder of Svatantra Microfin, which provides rural women with small loans to buy equipment for home-run businesses.

Karan Adani is the son of the second richest man in India after Mukesh Ambani i.e Gautam Adani- the founder and chairman of the Adani Group. He has studied management from Purdue University and joined his family business in 2009. By 2016, he had taken over the operations for Adani Ports and SEZ Limited. Under his leadership, his company acquired its 10th port, which is located in Kathupalli, Tamil Nadu from Larsen & Turbo. Last year, Karan began overlooking the group’s airport projects, which include the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Jaipur International Airport, Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport, Mangalore International Airport and Trivandrum International Airport. Inder Jaisinghani’s life was not easy and he had to struggle for decades before becoming big. Inder Jaisinghani was forced to give up on education after his father passed away in 1968. He took over the responsibility of providing for the family. Not many would know but Inder Jaisinghani took over the small electrical shop started by his father in Mumbai’s Lohar Chawl. Along with his brothers – Girdhari, Ajay, and Ramesh, Inder began expanding the small family business. In 2014, Polycab expanded into making products such as electric fans, LED lighting, switches, and switchgear.

Gautam Adani   Biography:  Adani Group, in the latest, announced on August 23, 2022, that its media unit will buy a majority stake in New Delhi Television Ltd (NDTV), one of the nation's most popular, in the most high-profile bet by billionaire Gautam Adani in the vibrant media sector. The news of Adani's latest acquisition has led the media industry by storm. 

Gautam Adani's unit will indirectly buy a 29.18 percent stake in NDTV and will launch an open offer for another 26 percent stake. The open offer will be worth Rs. 493 crores, as per the official statement. NDTV is a leading media house and operates three national news channels, NDTV India, NDTV 24x7 and NDTV Profit. 

Gautam Adani is the chairman and founder of the Indian multinational conglomerate, Adani Group, which is headquartered in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. His wife Priti Adani leads the Adani foundation. He was born on 24 June 1962 to a middle-class Jain family in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. His father was Shantilal and his mother was Shanti Adani. He has seven siblings and the eldest is Mansukhbhai Adani. The family migrated from the town of Tharad in northern Gujarat in search of a livelihood. His father was a small textile merchant.

He did his schooling at Sheth C.N. Vidyalaya School in Ahmedabad. At Gujarat University, he took admission for a bachelor's degree in commerce, but he dropped out after the second year.

Gautam Adani moved to Mumbai in his teenage years in 1978 and worked as a diamond sorter for Mahendra Brothers. He worked there for around two to three years before establishing his own diamond brokerage firm at Zaveri Bazaar, Mumbai.

In Ahmedabad, Gautam's elder brother Mansukhbhai Adani brought a plastics unit in 1981 and invited him to manage operations. This venture turned out to be Adani's gateway to global trading via Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) imports.

He then started importing primary polymers for small-scale industries in 1985. Adani established Adani Exports in 1988 and is now known as Adani Enterprises. The company deals in agriculture and power commodities.

In the 90s business expanded. For the Adani group, economic liberalisation policies turned out to be favourable in 1991 and he started expanding it into the trading of metals, textiles, and agro products.

Adani got the Mundra Port contract in 1995. He set up the first Jetty in 1995. It was originally operated by Mundra Port & Special Economic Zone. Later, the operations were transferred to Adani Ports & SEZ (APSEZ). Nowadays, is the largest private multi-port operator.

Adani Power was founded by Adani which is the power business arm of the Adani Group in 1996. It holds thermal power plants of around 4620 capacity and is the largest thermal power producer in the country.

He also entered the power generation business in 2006. He also acquired Abbot Point Port in Australia and Carmichael coal mine in Queensland from 2009 to 2012.

Gautam Adani is the president of the Adani Foundation. The foundation not only operates in Gujarat but also operates in the states of Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.

Ratan tata: The Inspiring Story of India’s Leading Business Tycoon

The business field in India saw new dimensions with the business tycoon playing his game.

Ratan Naval Tata, the chairman of Tata Sons and Tata groups is one of the most gigantic and successful business houses in India.

Aged 73, Tata owns one of the largest conglomerates which encompass about 100 firms and revenue worth about 67 billion USD.

He is the proud recipient of the highest civilian awards of India, the Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan.

Let us take a look at the tycoon’s life and why he is known for his business ethics and philanthropy.

Early life of Ratan Tata

He was born as the scion of the Tata Family in 1973. His great grandfather Jamshedji Tata was the founder of the Tata group.

As a child, Tata experienced a disturbing childhood as his parents split and he was raised by his grandmother.

He graduated from Cornell University College of architecture and joined his company in 1961 and later completed an Advanced Management Program from Harvard business school in 1975.

He turned down a job at IBM and gave a shot at the Tata steel shop floor. He worked with blue-coloured employees at Tata steel. He started by shovelling stones and working at blast furnaces.

In 1971 he took up the position of Director-in-charge of the national Radio and electronics company (NELCO).

He worked hard to build better electronics for the consumers and stroke success.

The success laid his path to becoming the chairman of Tata industries and the first stone for his successful business reign was laid.

His stewardship raised the company to heights of popularity. He took the Tata consultancy service to the public and Tata motors found its place in the New York stock exchange list, grabbing international attention.

He also owns the credit of cracking one of the successful bids of Tata for an Anglo-Dutch steel and aluminium producer Corus.

The rewarding failure of Ratan Tata

Ratan Tata knows how much energy and time is required to scale a company.

He is a successful business and success is a reward for several failures. Not every idea of his bore fruit and earned a name for him.

A recent example is the failure of nano cars. When Tata motors were not doing well, he encouraged his employers to come out of AC rooms and wanted them to come close with reality and think about how innovation can help different sections of society.

The birth of Tata Indica, the truly Indian car came out under Tata’s tenure in 1988. The first-year launch didn’t gain much success, many advised Tata to sell the passenger car business.

After a mocking session in an attempt to sell Tata motors to Ford, Tata gave a great comeback and overpowered Ford while they went into bankruptcy. Later Tata group offered to buy Ford’s luxury brand Jaguar-Land rover.

The ladder of success

Tata group bought the Tea firm, Tetley, for about GBP 70 million. The conglomerate’s revenue grew 12 fold in 2009 with a total of USD 67.4 billion.
