18 years of VARSHAM : That inexplicable joy of watching your home location or the place you have been so many times to on the big screen - Varsham gave me that feeling for the first time in my life when rain united Venkat and Shailu in Veyyi Stambhaala Gudi (Thousand Pillars Temple)! Lived in Warangal for the first 8 years of my life from 1997 to 2005 and oh whattaa feeling to have watched this film for Sankranthi on an evening show at Sridevi theatre and going to the temple the next day in the excitement of watching it again freshly with the memories of "Mellagaa Karagani" song... but have to admit that it spoiled me for life as whenever…

One of the few telugu movies where 'romance' part is actually true in 'romantic action drama'.
Notes: 1.Baby Prabhas was best prabhas, missing his pre-bahubali charm rn. 2. Nuvvosthanante Nenoddhantana song is #1 exhibit to show why Trisha mam has had a such a long career. 3. Vintage DSP albums with no bad songs ❤ 4. Raju gari screenplay writing is one of my favorites in tollywood 5. Minus 10 points to Paruchuri Venkat for trying telangana dialect lol

Now that I’ve recovered from his awful bug glasses in Yogi I think I’m finally coming around to being a prabhas girlie or Trisha’s just such a good actress she can make any man seem desireable…at the very least I learned that Varsham means rain in Telugu so I can’t really complain

"Why don't they just build the whole plane out of wet sari songs?" -This movie's director
This felt pretty familiar from go but it took until the train station bit for me to fully realize that Baaghi was a remake.
It's an interesting case where if you could Frankenstein the two versions together, you'd have a near-perfect movie, but either alone is just pretty good. This version mostly has the better cast*--and Baaghi even has a pretty good one, but the cast without Trisha Krishnan, Sunil Varma, and Prakash Raj in it is generally going to lose these kind of comps--as well as a stronger romance arc, script, and soundtrack. But for a movie that really wants to spend about…

Loved, loved Trisha, Prakash Raj, Gopichand (say what you want but it takes a special skill to out-Prakash Raj in a film where Prakash Raj is also Prakash Raj-ing), the rain (no, it is NOT symbolic, intellectuals stay away!!) and some of the songs.
Hated pretty much everything else though— it's supposed to be a romantic melodrama with action (coz Prabhas star power, duh) but it's just one long drawn-out action sequence after another which pretty much drowned out the romance for me (sorry for the rain pun) which is a shame because Trisha and Prabhas actually had good chemistry.
Prabhas though... I primarily watched this film to see why Prabhas has fans (pre- Baahubali because I'm not an enjoyer of…

"Varsham epudu padatadi ra?" ("When is rain going to fall man?")
I remembered that I watched this movie in cinemas when I was a kid. Also, totally exceeded my expectations. This movie is awesome and I love it for existing. The kidnapping scene fucking traumatized me when I was a kid and I still don't how they proceeded that scene without Child services coming in the middle. The petrol scene is just pure BADASS! It's like the scene was on fire, you get what I mean? I'll shut up now.

Varsham is a 2004 Telugu-language romantic action movie that was produced by M.S. Raju under the Sumanth Art Productions label, directed by Sobhan, and starred Prabhas, Trisha, and Gopichand. Devi Sri Prasad provided the soundtrack for the movie. The movie was remade in Tamil as Mazhai (2005), Odia as Barsa My Darling (2004), and Hindi as Baaghi (2016).
Plot: An unemployed young man named Venkat meets a middle-class beauty named Sailaja on a train, and after dancing in a downpour, they become attracted to one another right away. Sailaja also captures the attention of Bhadranna, a cunning and deadly politician who has developed feelings for her. Every time it rains, Venkat continues running into Sailaja, and the two fall in love. Sailaja’s father, Ranga Rao, is a typical black sheep with a lot of undesirable habits. Ranga Rao accepts Bhadranna’s proposal to marry him after jumping at the chance. Later, a movie producer named Seenayya comes to Ranga Rao and offers Sailaja a role in a film.
Ranga Rao believes that her career as a movie actor would be more lucrative than her engagement to Bhadranna. He persuades Sailaja to act in a movie, then effectively foments disputes between lovers before heading into the city with her. Venkat departs for his uncle’s home in Vizag as well. Sailaja becomes a movie star in Vizag, and Venkat works alongside his uncle as a demolition specialist in a quarry. A few months later, after Ranga Rao has defrauded Bhadranna of some money, he discovers Sailaja’s current residence, kidnaps her, and attempts to convince her not to marry him. Ranga Rao tells Seenayya to approach Venkat because he thinks Venkat still has feelings for Sailaja. Seenayya becomes anxious because the shooting was stopped.
With Bhadranna, Venkat battles for Sailaja and concurs. Sailaja eventually realizes that she misunderstood Venkat and expresses her regret. They joyously make up, and both of them begin dating once more. Bhadranna kills his brother Kaasi that evening because he failed to bring Sailaja. From Hyderabad, Bhadranna is returning to kill Venkat and wed Sailaja. Bhadranna attempts to stab Venkat at the event but is stopped by his uncle Sivayya. Venkat defeats Bhadranna and congratulates Sailaja and Venkat’s allies after the fight. Bhadranna briefly regains consciousness before being crushed under the burning statue of Ravana and losing his life. In the film’s climax, Sailaja and Venkat reconcile.

‘The Three Musketeers – Part II: Milady’ Review: Eva Green Surprises in French Blockbuster’s Less-Than-Faithful Finale
As in Richard Lester's two-part 1970s adaptation of the Alexandre Dumas novel, the villainous Milady takes the spotlight in the second half, though this time, the film inventively strays from the source.

For readers of Alexandre Dumas’ novel, extravagant French adaptation “ The Three Musketeers – Part II: Milady” packs its share of surprises: killing off important characters, sparing others and reimagining allegiances that have stood for nearly two centuries. For viewers of “Part I: D’Artagnan,” however, this swashbuckling sequel feels totally in keeping with what came before. Even the twists track, paying off what amounts to a nearly four-hour investment (not counting however many months audiences may have waited to see how the story ends).
Popular on Variety
Bourboulon isn’t the first filmmaker to split Dumas’ novel down the middle. Half a century earlier, Richard Lester directed back-to-back features, dubbed “The Three Musketeers” and “The Four Musketeers” — though the latter was rechristened “They Call Her Milady” (“On l’appelait Milady”) in France, suggesting a precedent for accentuating Green’s character in the second half. She’s an infinitely more interesting source of obsession for D’Artagnan than Constance, who comes across as beatifically banal as played by Khoudri here. That in turn makes D’Artagnan’s efforts to rescue her seem rather uninspired, as if he could be doing something better with his time — like lusting after Milady.
In this telling, Constance stumbled upon the perpetrators of the plot to assassinate the king just before the first part ended, which at least imbues the character with a certain value. Still, it’s far more exciting to see D’Artagnan and Milady together, as they are early on, fighting side by side for a change. Bourboulon’s big innovation in these films can be seen in his action sequences, which typically unfold via elaborate oners — dynamic set-pieces designed to look as though they were captured in a single unbroken shot.
During an early escape, the camera chases after D’Artagnan, running along the lofty fortress parapet. When the young hero finds himself cornered, the lensman plunges right behind brave D’Artagnan into the moat. The effect is far more immersive than most adventure movies, which use quick cutting to place viewers in the fray. The way DP Nicolas Bolduc shoots these well-choreographed, minimally edited sequences, we feel like participants in the action, as in a knife fight that comes just a few scenes later, where the nimble camera is at knee level when D’Artagnan drives a blade through his opponent’s leg.
The other musketeers have less to do this time around, though each remains sworn to protecting the honor of others. Porthos has fallen in love with Aramis’ sister, Mathilde (Camille Rutherford), and together the two confront the cad who took advantage of her. In a rather confusing (but nonetheless exciting) subplot, Athos risks his life to rescue a comrade strapped to a wooden cross. He too has unfinished business with Milady — which remains the case all the way to the end, suggesting a thread that could inspire an off-canon “Part III,” should Bourboulon care to continue the epic.
Stateside, subtitles tend to relegate movies to art-houses, where the kind of young audiences most likely to appreciate such showy theatrics rarely set foot. Like last year’s “Napoleon,” this is megaplex entertainment at its most grand. Still, it would take some clever marketing to transform this import into a “Parasite”-style phenomenon, even if both well-made offerings have the same quality: They fill an entertainment niche that American movies have all but abdicated.
