Speech writing is the art of using proper grammar and expression to convey a thought or message to a reader. Speech writing isn’t all that distinct from other types of narrative writing. However, students should be aware of certain distinct punctuation and writing style techniques. • Pronoun – Pronouns are words that can be used in place of nouns. They are used so that we don’t have to repeat words. This makes our writing and speaking much more natural.
• Verb – A verb is a term that implies activity or ‘doing.’ These are very vital for your children’s grammar studies, as a sentence cannot be complete without a verb.
• Adjective – An adjective is a term that describes something. An adjective is frequently used before a noun to add extra information or description.
• Prepositions- A preposition is a term that expresses the location or timing of something in relation to something else.
• Conjunction- Because every language has its own set of conjunctions, English conjunctions differ from those found in other languages. They’re typically used as a connecting word between two statements, concepts, or ideas.
• Interjections- Interjections are words that are used to describe a strong emotion or a sudden feeling.

Format of Speech Writing

• Introduction : Greet the audience, tell them about yourself and further introduce the topic.
• Body : Present the topic in an elaborate way, explaining its key features, pros and cons, if any and the like.
• Conclusion : Summary of your speech, wrap up the topic and leave your audience with a compelling reminder to think about!

After the greetings, the Introduction has to be attention-getting. Quickly get people’s attention. The goal of a speech is to engage the audience and persuade them to think or act in your favour. The introduction must effectively include: 

• A brief preview of your topic. 
• Define the outlines of your speech. (For example, I’ll be talking about…First..Second…Third)
• Begin with a story, quote, fact, joke, or observation in the room. It shouldn’t be longer than 3-4 lines. (For Example: “Mahatma Gandhi said once…”, or “This topic reminds me of an incident/story…”)

This part is also important because that’s when your audience decides if the speech is worth their time. Keep your introduction factual, interesting, and convincing.

It is the most important part of any speech. You should provide a number of reasons and arguments to convince the audience to agree with you.

Handling objections is an important aspect of speech composition. There is no time for questions or concerns since a speech is a monologue. Any concerns that may occur during the speech will be addressed by a powerful speech. As a result, you’ll be able to respond to questions as they come in from the crowd. To make speech simpler you can prepare a flow chart of the details in a systematic way.

For example: If your speech is about waste management; distribute information and arrange it according to subparagraphs for your reference. It could include:

The conclusion should be something that the audience takes with them. It could be a reminder, a collective call to action, a summary of your speech, or a story. For example: “It is upon us to choose the fate of our home, the earth by choosing to begin waste management at our personal spaces.”

After concluding, add a few lines of gratitude to the audience for their time.

For example: “Thank you for being a wonderful audience and lending me your time. Hope this speech gave you something to take away.”

A filthy atmosphere invites a large number of mosquitos to grow and spread dangerous diseases. It is one of the ways of spreading awareness regarding social issues or giving information regarding other important issues. As a form of writing, a speech is similar to an article except that it begins with a formal address to the audience, is more conversational in tone and concludes with a ‘Thank you’. A speech is written for a specific purpose like informing, persuading, convincing or entertaining an audience.

Components of a Speech Introduction

Introduction It begins with greeting the Chief Guest / Principal / teachers and other listeners. It may include a striking statement, short anecdote, a saying or anything else which will immediately make the audience interested. Then the topic of the speech will be announced along with the occasion, if required.

Elaboration of the topic It will include a sequence of ideas to build up to the summing up and conclusion. You may include examples, evidence or data to support the ideas. You can paint verbal pictures and dramatise or personalise the information.

Summing up Summarise the most important points in your speech but do not repeat them.

Conclusion. Depending on the purpose of your speech, conclude with a call for an action, an appeal, a warning, a request and an expression of thanks.

It influences public opinion significantly because people consider true whatever the media depicts, whether it is the electronic media like TV and Radio, social media like Facebook and Twitter, cyber media like the Internet and e-mail, or the print media like newspapers and magazines. However, in some cases, the actual situation is totally different from what is depicted in the media. Media dramatises the information to serve its own ends, and usually to gain popularity.

Everybody, yes everybody, are exposed to different forms of media. People are not always able to separate fact from opinion and believe or disbelieve what they see, hear, or read. This moulds their opinions and actions, thus enabling the media to have a stronghold on society.

Over reporting as well as under-reporting can lead to misinformed opinions. It is for the journalistic community to take initiative and seek to address the various concerns regarding the profession. Peer pressure is not always bad. Peers may teach you good habits and encourage you to follow them. Looking at what others do can help you bring a positive change in your way of thinking. Your peers, their choices, and ways of life give you a glimpse of the world outside the four walls of your house. What they think about things in life, how they perceive situations, how they react in different circumstances can actually expose you to the world around them. Being part of a larger group of peers exposes you to the diversity in human behaviour. This makes you reflect on your behaviour and know where you stand. Peer pressure can lead you to make the right choices in life.

Your peers can, thus, influence the shaping of your personality in a positive way. Moreover, it’s not pressuring every time, sometimes it’s an inspiration, which makes you change for good.

Racism works against the principle of being equal and the right of all people to be treated fairly. Hating people because of their colour or other factors is wrong. We all have to stay together and thus, we need to make the effort to embrace and accept other cultures. This can start with the simple act of friendship. Let us start today.

Child labour typically refers to employment of children below a certain age in organisations and industries with or without their legal permission. This problem is more acute in developing countries rather than developed countries primarily because of three reasons, namely low cost associated with child labour, the need of poor families to make their children work to get money and lack of will power for implementation of labour laws. Even within developing countries, it is the unorganised sector like shoe-making, safety matches, handmade clothes, bangles, carpet weaving etc that has a higher percentage of child labour.

The more disturbing part is the way children are treated during their employment. They are made to work long hours, not given proper food, deprived of basic sanitation and often exposed to hazardous chemicals during the course of their work. This results in lack of growth, injuries or at times, even death of children. It also deprives the children of tender care, right to basic education, love and time to play.

To stop child labour, the government must strictly implement labour laws and severely punish employers found guilty of illegal child labour. Then only we can promise a better future for the children of this country. The government must find ways to end poverty which is one of the root causes of child labour.

We all know that ‘a healthy mind lives in a healthy body’. To maintain this good health, we should live in a healthy environment and surroundings. The most important of these are the sanitary conditions. We should not throw our litter or waste material anywhere, but use the dustbins provided by the Municipal Corporation outside the home and waste bins inside our homes. Garbage should be properly disposed off otherwise it will spread all kinds of diseases.

We should also try to ensure that all drains are covered. Stray animals should not be allowed in the colonies so that they do not dirty the drains and other areas with their excreta. Slum dwellers should be made aware of the necessity of healthy surroundings. Also, the Municipal Corporation sanitation staff should be taken to task if they neglect their work.

Friends, it is our responsibility to keep our town clean. Each one should do his/her bit; then only will it pay off.

They advocate freedom of self-expression and are unwilling to tolerate any interference in their personal affairs—career, love-affair, or marriage. Corruption is the act of bribery and fraud committed in order to achieve personal objectives by engaging in unfair activities. This evil has existed in civilization from the beginning of time. This evil has spread to every industry and has evolved into a widespread practice.

What might lead somebody to engage in corruption? These could include a need for fame, wealth, power, and possessions. It is a ladder of achievement that people climb to the top of by abusing the rules and rules and regulations, employing improper favors, and strategies.

Ans. Good morning everyone. Today I am here to discuss the growth of the tourism industry. One can easily notice that there are noticeable changes in the character of Indian tourism, from a trip of pilgrimage to pleasure trips. A sort of organized tourism in India started in the 1950s and over the years, the Indian tourism industry has grown considerably as is indicated by the arrival of foreign tourists. The number of foreigners has substantially increased over the years.

 The Incredible India advertisement campaign has undoubtedly been a reason for the increased tourist’s arrivals. This industry also possesses vast employment potential. Millions of people have been employed in hospitality services by 2015. It has provided more than 25 million jobs and indirectly more generated jobs.

The ministry of tourism has adopted many policies to combat the obstacles which come in the way of the development of tourism in our country. Every possible effort has been made to put India on the map of the world tourism industry.

Corruption is rampant in many forms like nepotism, dereliction of duty, wastage of public property, getting admissions. Corruption is eating into the rights of common man and is harming our image. CWG, Adarsh Society, Chit fund scams all these have been a result of utmost corruption and eaten the money and rights of the public.

 Being the youth of the society, we should act fast to make our nation corruption-free. The movement led by Anna Hazare for Jan Lok Pal Bill is one of the biggest movements against corruption in the nation’s history.

Corruption starts from the bottom and reaches the top, thus it needs to be curbed at the ground level. There should be a monitoring committee with excellent vigilance to keep a check on corrupt officials and activities. There should be strict penalty and punishment for corrupt people. We need to make more and more people aware and help them to raise their voice and curb corruption.

In the field of basic amenities, this technology works in the form of reverse osmosis which purifies water and spares us from the till effects of unsafe water. The most important contribution is electricity. The electricity supply has increased drastically with the advent of nuclear power reactors.

In a nutshell, nuclear power has changed our lives for the better. Similarly, there are some things which need to be taken care of in this regard. It should not be used to destroy life or using it in wars.

1️⃣A very good morning to the respected Principal, teachers and my fellow students. Today, I, “XYZ” of class XI,  am going to present my views on the topic  “Role of youth in curbing Corruption”. 2️⃣Corruption is a habit and hence  everyone who holds an important position, is susceptible to it. There are people who can compete for certain jobs with greater chances of corruption and those who don’t have the chance, expect to minimise the corruption and keep complaining about it. 3️⃣But preventing and eradicating corruption is an absolute requirement for a better public life. As personal integrity is at stake, adolescents must rise to the fight against corruption on a personal level. Education is the key to eradicating corruption. 4️⃣Young people must say "no" to donations and private lessons. We need to promote a system of job selection based on merit, not bribery. Higher education is the key to eradicating corruption in our country. 5️⃣Ultimately, it is to form a national character. Nationality is nothing but a collective consciousness combined with courage. Don't turn young people into money machines. We must commit today to ending corruption at all levels.

ISC class 11 & class 12 Writing Skills : PROPOSAL WRITING

What do you mean by proposal writing.

Proposal writing refers to a formal suggestion of a plan with a regulated plan of action.

Marks allotment for Proposal writing: 10 marks

Format of writing a proposal:.

• The title must be center aligned
• The title should be around 5-6 words
• The title should NOT spill to the next line
• EG: 1. Proposal for setting up a secondary library in school
• EG. 2. Proposal for newspaper collective drive in school

b. HEADING/INTRODUCTION:

• The heading should have maximum 2 sentences.
• Content: The student is supposed to introduce the topic here with just a glimpse of what or how the plan can benefit the institution.
• EG.1. To inculcate good habits in children …………………
• EG.2. To develop an interest of students in art and the various forms of art…………

c. OBJECTIVES:

• The objective should include AT LEAST 2 POINTS.
• The objectives should be written in the form of a paragraph, not point-wise.
• Content: The student is supposed to introduce 2 distinct reasons for such a proposal. It may be the benefits of it from the receiving end as well as the institution.
• EG.1. The Science Club will reduce the fear among students.
• EG.2. The minor difficulties in mathematical calculations will be sorted with a rapid growth of interest through exhibitions……………
• EG.3. Donating books for the poor or the orphans will inculcate certain values in the students of the institution which will help to create a better society in future.

d. LIST OF MEASURES:

• The list of measures must be at least 4 in number.
• It should be a coherent plan of action that you propose to use while setting up your science club/collection drive etc.
• It should include the name of one supervisor. He/she may be, preferably, a teaching/ non-teaching staff.
• Try to use the word ‘may’ in your list of measures as you are proposing the list of measures to be taken. The final decision is to be made by the head of the institution.
• The words need to be formal and polite.

e. CONCLUSION:

• One liner statement to end your proposal.
• It should politely request the head of the institution to accept the offer which you make.
• EG.1. We would be obliged/ we hope that the proposal to set up a science club in our school will be accepted and our collective dream of eradicating the fear in science and promoting science exhibitions would come true.

• Heading/ Introduction: 2 marks
• Objectives: 2 marks
• List of measures: 4 marks
• Linguistic ability (grammar+ sentence construction) : 2 marks

SAMPLE PROPOSAL:

As a member of the Students Council of your school, you have been asked by the Principal of your school to give a proposal, in not more than 150 words, on how to help students of classes X and XII, who are weak in studies, to prepare for the Board Exams. (10 marks)

Proposal to help class X AND XII students to prepare for Board Exams

Introduction : To help students of Classes X and XII, who are weak in studies, to prepare for their Board Exams, we propose to hold a quiz competition, thrice every week.

Objective : The students who are weak in studies, can better themselves through the Quiz and it would be entertaining and engaging as the format would be multiple choice. The Board paper also has a section for multiple choice questions and it requires study in detail. It will benefit in not just a single way, but many.

List of Measures :

• The stay back for 3 days a week might be a problem for the students. So the weak children may be exempted from the 3 days of Assembly.
• Names of the weak students may be collected from the respective teachers and a schedule for classes can be allotted accordingly which would be handed over to the children with proper mention in the school diary.
• A set of multiple choice questions will be prepared by the teachers or a few selected students who have scored well in the subjects, from every topic. Each set will contain easy to difficult questions.
• The series will be presented on the screen at the old hall and will be verbally questioned. The quiz will be conducted by the teacher on the first day and the student who scores the most in the quiz or answers the maximum number of questions correctly, will get the opportunity to conduct it from the second day.
• Respective subject teachers may supervise the participation and regulate discipline during the session.

Conclusion: We hope that the proposal will be accepted so that the Quiz can help better the abilities of the weak students and prepare themselves to score better in their Board Examination.

Question 1. On 26th January 2009, four police officers of Mumbai and two NSG commandos were awarded Ashok Chakra posthumously. They Said down their lives fighting terrorists in Mumbai from 26th to 29th November 2008.

On 26th Nov., 2008, India’s financial capital, Mumbai was under siege. Terrorists came by the sea and occupied key locations in the city. City’s top hotels, the Taj, Oberoi and the Trident, were held to ransom. Nariman House, the Jewish Centre of the city, was another target where the terrorists held Jewish families hostage. In addition, the terrorists opened fire at V.T. Station killing several passengers.

Almost immediately, Mumbai police swang into action. With old fashioned weapons, policemen drove away the terrorists from V.T. Station, Cama Hospital, Girgaum and Chaupatty. In the process, many policemen lost their lives. But their valour foiled the evil designs of the terrorists to take hostages. Meanwhile NSG commandos were called and they entered the hotels and Nariman House. After grim fighting for almost four days, they were able to kill the terrorists and free the people trapped inside.

The security forces had to pay a heavy price. Mr Hemant Karkare, Anti-terror Squad Chief, Mr Ashok Kamte, Additional Police Commissioner, Mr Vijay Salaskar, Police Inspector and Mr Tukaram Omble, Assistant sub-inspector sacrificed their lives. Of the NSG commandos, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan and Havildar Gajender Singh died in action. All three valiant men were honoured posthumously by the President, Mrs Pratibha Patil on 2,6th January with Ashok Chakra.
