Casual Academic Pay Rates
The following minimum rates of pay apply to:
- Seminars where the Seminar is the primary form of education delivery; and
- Clinical Sessions in the Faculty of Medicine,
and are payable for every one hour of student contact time.
*Included Associated Working Time (AWT)
The following minimum rates apply to: (i) Marking; and (ii) Music Accompanying with special education service.
The following minimum rates of pay apply to all other work that a Casual Employee is required to perform for UNSW (i.e. work other than that to which Parts 2 to 5 of this Schedule apply.
Casual Tutorial
Paid as the normal rate for a lecture which consists of up to 1 hour of delivery and 2 hours of associated working time.
Repeat tutorial involves 1 hour delivery and 1 hour of associated working time, provided that the hourly rate in a repeat tutorial applies to the subsequent delivery of substantially the same subject matter in a tutorial within a period of 7 days and any marking and student consultation reasonably contemporaneous with it.
Tutorial involves 1 hour of delivery and up to 2 hours of associated working time in circumstances where the casual employee holds a relevant doctoral qualification.

Why The Role Matters: The Administrative Assistant provides effective day-to-day administrative support within the School to ensure all services are provided efficiently to meet the operating needs of The Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture The role reports to the School Manager, supporting the Head of School and relevant leadership within The School. - Provide high level administrative support to the School and other nominated teams across The Faculty of Arts, Architecture and Design.
- Act as the first point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, maintaining effective channels of communication, analysing requests and correspondence to prioritise as well as urgent and often sensitive matters.
- Provide effective specialist advice relating to administrative guidelines, processes and activities.
- Support school projects and processes such as field trips, risk assessments and events.
- Develop and maintain detailed filing systems, spreadsheets, databases, websites and other administrative systems.
- Draft agendas, minutes, correspondence, briefing notes, and guidelines for specific committees and meetings as required.
- Respond to a range of in-person, telephone and email enquiries from internal and external stakeholders, and initiate, action or escalate as necessary.
- Review and monitor finance administration requests, including but not limited to, purchasing, travel, credit card reconciliation, expense reimbursements, payment requests and billing processes.
- Arrange, support and promote meetings and events for internal and external stakeholders.
- Undertake induction and new starter process for new staff and visitors including access to systems and building and site orientation.

Position Summary
The Ultrasound Elasticity Imaging Laboratory (UEIL) at Columbia University Department of Biomedical Engineering works on developing novel, ultrasound-based techniques for both diagnostic and therapeutic applications. We believe that non-invasive imaging techniques can diagnose cardiovascular diseases more accurately and reliably than existing diagnostic methods. In order to evaluate our technologies, we are conducting multiple clinical trials at New York Presbyterian Hospital in the City of New York. We are seeking a ( grant funded) skilled cardiac sonographer who will work with our team of researchers to acquire high-quality transthoracic cardiac and vascular images in human and large animal subjects.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent scanning abilities, strong anatomical knowledge, as well as exemplary bedside manner. Organization, time management, and the ability to prioritize the collection of sonographic data for a variety of research projects is required, as well as strong interpersonal skills to recruit and consent research subjects.
This position is on-site Monday-Friday and does not require weekends, holidays, or calls.
Responsibilities
30% Perform standard-of-care 2D and 3D sonography on human subjects, specifically cardiac and carotid imaging
30% Perform 2D and 3D sonography on large animals (canine/swine) specifically cardiac and carotid imaging
10% Brief patients on research study and obtain informed consent
10% Maintain study participant records, demographics, and patient logs
10% Work with the electronic medical records for correlation of clinical data
5% Attend research meetings and trainings as required
5% Performs other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as required
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required and Graduate of an accredited diagnostic medical ultrasound program in sonography preferred. A Minimum of two (2) years of experience related to clinical ultrasound experience.
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) from ARDMS or a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) from CCI preferred
The ideal candidate must be able to work independently, be self-motivated, and positively contribute to the lab's aims and objectives.
Excellent bedside manner, interest in veterinary sonography and ultrasound research, knowledge of ultrasound equipment and computer, ability to prioritize, work independently and under direct supervision from senior lab personnel, ability to move a wheeled ultrasound cart.
Preference will be given to individuals with experience in performing veterinary sonography; interest in clinical and/or ultrasound research preferred; Ability and willingness to update and maintain research protocols for human and animal research and ensure compliance with regulatory bodies (IRB and IACUC); Spanish-speaking.

About the author.
Louis Sachar was born in New York. He was inspired to write children’s books after working as a teacher’s aide to gain extra credit. After graduation he worked in a sweater warehouse in Connecticut and wrote at night. He was soon fired from that job and moved onto law school where in his first week of study Sideways Stories From Wayside School was published.
In 2000 Louis Sacher wrote Holes which became both an instant classic and a film starring Sigourney Weaver. Holes was his first book to be published in the UK and continues to prove popular among younger readers. Once Louis Sachar begins writing a new book he refuses to talk to anyone until it is finished and entry to his office is barred apart from his two dogs.
