Nehru Park, Talkatora Garden, Lodhi Garden and Buddha Park are worth seeing gardens. Old Delhi has very majestic buildings of great historical importance too. Delhi is a great center of trade, industries and education. Karol Bagh, Chandni Chowk, Connaught Place and Lajpat Nagar are beautiful and famous shopping markets. Delhi is the heart of India. Delhi is a historical city. The old buildings remind us about its glorious past. The people come to Delhi to see the historical places like Qutab Minar, Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Parliament  House, National Museum, Gurudwara Sis Ganj, India Gate and Zoo. I like it very much. There are also a large number of libraries, museums and art galleries in Delhi. Some of the famous hospitals of Delhi are All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Mool Chand Hospital, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Safdarjang Hospital, Kalawati Hospital, Sucheta Kripalani Hospitial, Loknayak Jayaprakash Hospital,etc.

Life in Delhi is very tiring. It has a population of over 10 million. The seat of legislature, the Parliament, is situated in Delhi. Rastrapati Bhawan, the President’s residence is also located in Delhi. It is the Secretariat – the North Block and the South Block – where the policies of the government are formulated. It serves as a reminder of the day India embraced democracy and achieved true independence. Almost three years after gaining our independence, on January 26, 1950, Indians established themselves as a sovereign, secular, socialist, and democratic republic. India's citizens celebrate Republic Day on January 26 yearly with great excitement and passion. It is celebrated to recognise the significance of being the Sovereign Democratic Republic, which was established on January 26, 1950, following the implementation of the Indian Constitution. Additionally, it is a time to recall and celebrate India's historic independence from British rule. India ultimately gained its independence from British domination on August 15, 1947. For more than 200 years, the British ruled the country.

India gained independence, but a government was urgently needed to ensure the country's smooth operation. The nation's citizens commemorate and honour the great leaders and freedom warriors on this day for their contributions to the country's liberation.

The day that our Constitution was implemented in 1950 is commemorated as Republic Day on January 26 each year. After this day, our country truly became democratic and independent. The diligent effort of great men like Mahatma Gandhi and the many other freedom fighters who fought and gave their lives for the country's sovereignty resulted in the adoption of the Indian Constitution, which is the fundamental law being enacted.

People of all races, religions, colours, and backgrounds come together on this day to commemorate the event with tremendous zeal and enthusiasm. The Indian Military participates in the event and displays the grandeur associated with it in a large parade held in Delhi, the nation's capital. The parade, which begins after the president hoists the national flag and citizens honour martyrs who gave their lives while defending the nation, displays the country's pride and vibrant diversity.

Schools host a variety of cultural events in honour of Republic Day. With tremendous energy and excitement, students take part in different programmes. All educational institutions hold competitions for essay writing, speeches, sketching and painting, among other things. Students also perform plays and skits on the freedom fighters who fought for India's independence.

Republic Day holds a historical significance for the nation. The nation first put the Constitution into effect on January 26, 1950. The Indian National Congress elected Jawaharlal Nehru as its leader, and on January 26, 1930, Poorna Swaraj, or Independence Day, was inaugurated.

Republic Day has a significant historical impact. On August 15, 1947, Indians took their freedom back from the Britishers but we had no constitution, political parties, or governance structure. India put the Constitution into effect on January 26, 1950. On January 26, 1930, Poorna Swaraj was proclaimed, and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was chosen to lead the Indian National Congress. However, it was only on August 15, 1947 that we gained our independence.

After India gained independence, a unique constitutive parliament was chosen to establish the Indian Constitution. Dr B.R. Ambedkar headed the constitution-drafting committee. Other nations' constitutions were also considered when drafting India’s constitution. The Indian Constitution was created, at last, 166 days later.

It was designed to guarantee equal rights to all Indian citizens, regardless of their religion, culture, caste, sex, or creed. The Constitution of India was adopted and put into effect on January 26, 1950, and that day is known as Republic Day. Additionally, it signifies the end of British control and the establishment of India as a Republic State.

The country’s capital, New Delhi, hosts the Republic Day parade, which the Ministry of Defense organises. India's 3-day Republic Day festivities begin at the gates of Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President's residence, with a meaningful ceremony. It continues on Rajpath through the India Gate to Raisina Hill.

India's cultural, social, and military strengths are on display in the parade. Nine to twelve distinct Indian Army battalions march past alongside the Navy and Air Force while dressed in full regalia and official insignia. This parade includes twelve contingents from different paramilitary groups in India and police forces. The President of India, who serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces, accepts the salute.

Every Indian citizen values Republic Day. This holiday, one of India's national celebrations, evokes everyone's sense of patriotism. This is one of the occasions that aids in introducing the younger generation to our wonderful Indian heritage and culture. This is the day on which we honour the great leaders and freedom warriors who gave their lives in defence of the nation.

Republic Day also teaches us the value of togetherness and how it supported the Indian freedom movement in its struggle against the British Empire, which was far more potent. Mahatma Gandhi's nonviolence movement showed us how to overcome an adversary far more powerful than us without using force or spilling any blood. The Constitution ensures that there is no caste, creed, or religious discrimination in the country, and Republic Day serves as a reminder of this.

On the eve of Republic Day, the Indian President awards ‘Padmas’ to the people of India. To receive a Bharat Ratna or Bhushan Padma prize, you do not need to hold a specific title. A special committee nominates people. The Bharat Ratna and the Padma Awards are the two highest civilian honours. There are three different categories for the Padma Bhushan Award: Padma Vibhusan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri.

The second-highest civilian honour, the Padma Vibhusan, is granted for exceptional and distinguished service.

The Padma Bhushan is the third-highest civilian honour granted for exceptionally meritorious service.

The Padma Shri is India's fourth-highest civilian honour, granted to individuals for exemplary service.

The G20 Summit is important as it serves as a platform for the leaders of the world's largest economies to collaborate on pressing global matters. 

At the G20 Summit, leaders exchange ideas, deliberate on policy solutions, and coordinate efforts to tackle various global challenges, encompassing economic issues like recessions, trade, and investments, as well as social concerns like poverty, inequality, and climate change.

Importance of India’s G20 Summit Presidency 2023

G20 is the premier forum for international economic cooperation representing around 85% of the global GDP, over 75% of the global trade, and about two-thirds of the world population.

During the course of its G20 Presidency, India will host about 200 meetings in 32 different sectors in multiple locations across India.

• According to Prime Minister Modi, this term can be an opportunity for India to share its expertise with the world in areas of women empowerment, democracy and digital technologies.
• As a country with core democratic values, India can show the world that the scope of conflict can come to an end when democracy becomes a culture. This gains significance amidst the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
• India’s foreign policy is focusing on the ‘global common good’. Through its G20 leadership, India hopes to extend this principle towards finding sustainable solutions to some of the key global challenges emerging out of the interconnectedness of the world, such as climate change, new and emerging technologies, food and energy security, etc.
• This would be the first time when the Troika would consist of three developing countries and emerging economies.
• It is hoped that as a result there would be a shift in the balance of power within the G20 favouring emerging economies to have a greater share in decision-making at this grouping.
• The G-20 Presidency presents a great opportunity for India to correct the long-standing anomalies that go against developing countries, especially in the domain of agriculture and food subsidies.

The Department of English in a country like India too often witnesses contestations of varied kinds. Debates range from Macaulay's prod to the madness of the method and beyond. Identity crisis-that of the department and that of its members-is one such problematic context. Sidestepping desires to sing notes of self-congratulation, this paper attempts to self-reflexively critique the values, aspirations, practices and its resultant consequences in the Department of English, Christ University, Bangalore. Such a critique will look at specific issues, concerns of, and about English Studies at Christ, based on three experience-enabled narratives. The first narrative aims at exploring 1. complexities of a fresh " pocopomo " (postcolonial-postmodern) English Studies teacher in such a reputed, metropolitan institution, 2. complexities of locating Cultural Studies within an English Studies framework in the institution, and 3. complexities of studentship in such a context.

The anthology presents the idea of India from multiple perspectives. 'What constitutes Indianness' has attracted the attention of scholars, thinkers and leaders over the years. In the light of Indian Fiction scene an attempt is made to approach multiple cultures and conflicting ideologies that co-existed in India through dialogic mode. The inclusion of bhasha fiction implies that Regional Fiction in English that focussed on micro issues is complementary to Indian English Fiction that dealt with macro issues.

World Literature Decentered: Beyond the 'West' Through Turkey, Mexico and Bengal

What would world literature look like, if we stopped referring to the "West"? Starting with the provocative premise that the "'West' is ten percent of the planet", World Literature Decentered is the first book to decenter Eurocentric discourses of global literature and global historynot just by deconstructing or historicizing them, but by actively providing an alternative. Looking at a series of themes across three literatures (Mexico, Turkey and Bengal), the book examines hotels, melancholy, orientalism, femicide and the ghost story in a series of literary traditions outside the "West". The non-West, the book argues, is no fringe group or token minority in need of attention-on the contrary, it constitutes the overwhelming majority of this world.

This paper examines the case of two authors, Mark Tully and Ruskin Bond, who were born in India shortly before India's Independence (1947). Both had British parents, but one considers himself Indian while the other has retained his British identity. The focus of this paper is how and why this difference has occurred and how it has influenced their writing. Both Tully and Bond write short stories about India and Indians, particularly the small towns and villages. Their reasons for writing, however, are very different. Tully writes to achieve social change, while Bond writes because he loves to write.
