School Is My Second Home (Essay Sample)

School is my second home.

A home is a place where people live with their family members, the parents and the siblings. At home, everyone is comfortable and enjoys what they deem best. Once kids get to a right age, children move to schools to get an education for their future success. The children are separated from the comfort of home by schools. The school environment makes children adapt fast and finally feel like they have a second home.

At home children have parents. The parents give their children parental love and a sense of belonging. At home, the children feel confident for they know they have someone to stand by their side. Teachers at the school are like our parents back at home. A new student in the school will be taught and convinced that the teachers are like their parents. The teachers show compassion and care to the children. The teachers just like the parents encourage the children to work hard and achieve high grades.  The encouragement boosts the confidence of children in school. The children are also taught good morals at school. Teaching good morals is the duty of parents and the society at home; therefore teachers make the school look like home by teaching morals. Teachers make children learn the art of responsibility just like the parents do at home. Kids feel at home and see their teachers as their parents by observing how the teachers are dealing with them. At home, the parents strive so hard to protect their children from any danger; the parents safeguard their children from physical harm from neighbors and friends. In schools, the teachers protect children from bullying and any other form of harm to the children in the school environment. The protection makes kids know that they have parents around.

At home, children have their siblings and neighbors children. At school, other children make kids feel like they are in a home environment. The children at school give their fellows confidence of expression and socialization. The teachers are good, but children cannot initiate some conversation with the teachers. Also, since children are learners, they may fear to share their thoughts with their teachers freely. The children just like home are the playmates of their fellows at school.

At home, there are public activities. The public activities help people come together to achieve a greater goal. In schools there are also several activities, e.g. the school clubs, these helps children know the need of group work. Working as a group helps children develop the art and skills of living outside the school environment. Children volunteer in public activities to gain experience of their career, with the numerous activities in school; children can also get the same experience.

At school children have co-curricular activities the same as home. The co-curricular activities both at home and school are meant to help the children grow up physically active. The co-curricular activities in school may involve playing for the school team which is not different from playing for a community group.

At home, there are family trips. These trips can be to some recreational centers like going to a zoo. Children enjoy the adventure with their parents. At school, the administrators can also organize such trips. The idea of traveling together with teachers and fellow children in the same bus makes children think they are at home.

At home, there are people of diverse characters. Schools also have some people with different characters. Just as at home one needs to learn how to deal with others of different characters, so it is at school.

The school and home share some similarities. These similarities help children cope with the academic pressure in schools. The similarities encourage children to love their academic work.

Our School Essay

The centre of education or often called the temple of education is the place we all are familiar with is a school. Schools not only instil formal education and shape us into better people, but also make us capable of profoundly impacting this world. Here are a few sample essays on “Our School”.

100 Words Essay On Our School

Schooling is a necessary step in making a child aware of the world around him and growing into a responsible human. It is a platform to learn, do better in life and develop your personality. Our school, St. Louis Convent School, was built between lush green fields in the suburbs.

It has three large buildings, each divided for different purposes, i.e., playgroup, junior and senior block. Surrounded by these three buildings is our huge school playground, which has basketball, tennis, and a badminton court. My favourite area was the swingset installed in a separate corner of the garden. My school was like my second home, and I always enjoyed going to school.

Our School Essay

200 Words Essay On Our School

Our school is the most prominent building in the town. It is a Christian convent school, and therefore it also has a beautiful Catholic Church. Our school has lush green and tall palm trees in the front and a beautiful garden in the back. It also has a vast playground where all the students gather to eat lunch and play different sports, such as cricket and football. I enjoy lunchtime most when I meet my friends from other sections.

Our school also has a massive auditorium with 500 seats. It is famous for its annual function in the whole town. Our school is renowned for its many societies and clubs. I am a member of the dance club and often perform on the stage of the auditorium.

My favourite go-to place in the school is the library. Our school library is very big. It has 25 shelves and thousands of books from every genre. I enjoy reading encyclopaedias very much. I go to the library daily. We can also borrow the books we like from the library.

Last year, our school also won the “Best School Of The Town Award”. Everyone was very happy, and the principal distributed sweets and candies among the children. It was an award well deserved.

500 Words Essay On Our School

Most working class and college students would agree on one indisputable fact, that their school life was one of the best experiences they had. Everyone would instantly agree to go back in time and relive those memories only if possible. School life has something so pure and joyful about it. It automatically becomes one of the best phases of one’s life.

School is the place where many of us get to learn friendship and make the first friends of our lives. We also learn so many things the first time - spelling, reading, sports, reciting, and so countless other basic skills we have acquired can be traced back to our school lives.

History Of My School

Our school is a Christian convent missionary school. It was established 50 years ago by an NGO from Kerala. The majority of teachers at my school are Christian, yet the school boasts of a relatively diverse student group from all religions, castes and social statuses.

It is one of the most renowned schools in the city. Our school often finds itself in the achievements section of the newspapers. It is very active and has been giving the city toppers in class 10 and 12 board exams for the last few decades. It has also received many awards and recognitions. I am very glad to be part of this school.

Sports Facility

Our school is a co-ed school with almost an equal ratio of girls to boys. It is famous for its sports teams, especially the badminton and karate teams that went on to win national-level competitions. Our playground is huge and equipped with state-of-the-art sports equipment. We have a basketball court, a tennis court, and a badminton court. Cricket and football clubs also function very well in our school. Our school also excels in indoor sports. The state champion of table tennis is from our school only. We have national-level chess players. Recently a huge swimming pool was inaugurated in our school, and I am sure that we will soon see awards and medals in swimming competitions too.

Extra Curricular Activities

Apart from sports, our school boasts many other societies and clubs. The most renowned are the music, art, and the theatre club. A group of performers went to do a theatre play in Russia from our school last week. Our school also has modern and updated computer labs and of course the chemistry, physics and biology labs. Our school conducts NGO drives occasionally. It has been tied up with the Robin Hood Army and sends delegates of students weekly. We also have very active NSS and NCC clubs functioning in the school.

Teachers And Principal

The teachers of our school are highly qualified and are led by an equally qualified but more experienced principal. Anoop Kumar has been our principal for the last 25 years. Under his guidance and leadership, our school has managed to grow so rapidly and become the best among the other schools. It has been my privilege to study in such a world-class and fantastic school. I will be forever grateful to my guardians for giving me such an opportunity.

School: A Second Home for the Children

school our second home essay

Nearly a third of the time in childhood and early teenage is spent in school classrooms. A school is a place to develop skills and abilities and create friendships. It is an environment for thriving social interactions that will be essential on their journey to adulthood. School should be a place where students learn, and have fun as well. School should not be a hindrance for children, because, in that space, they not only develop social, physical, and mental skills and abilities but also undergo physical changes. Therefore, no health risks should be at stake.

Yet, the indoor environment in schools could hinder proper children’s development. Budget cuts, lack of regular maintenance, wear, and tear, and general underfunding result in school buildings being undervalued. Furthermore, in many schools and classrooms, the indoor environment quality is mildly staying below average, and would not be accepted in normal occupational settings and working environments. Many schools suffer from overheating and underheating, poor air quality, noise issues, penetration of outdoor pollutants, poor lighting conditions, and mold, to mention only a few issues. The wonderful atmosphere and teaching environment created by classmates and the teacher may not be sufficient to support proper progress in teaching and learning if classroom conditions are poor.

Studies repeatedly show that inadequate indoor environment quality ( IEQ ) in classrooms does affect pupils, probably those that already have some handicaps and are less able to progress in learning. This is undermining their future, and it is clearly against inclusivity and equal opportunities. The poor conditions will, of course, impact their general health conditions. Therefore, it is unquestionable that schools should provide a healthy environment that promotes the learning and development of children.

school our second home essay

What are the effects that we could expect from poor classroom environments?

Elevated temperatures alter progress in learning and also impact exam results, creating a potential barrier to further education. Children in elementary schools are active and prefer temperatures corresponding to thermal response slightly below neutral, although cooler than the corresponding conditions for adults. This is seen from studies in temperate and subtropical climates, so should be taken at face value.

Poor classroom air quality also affects learning. Part of it could be caused by ambient pollutants such as particles of nitrogen dioxide, or pollutants generated by the traffic, but mostly can be due to pollutants generated indoors. The types of pollutants are yet not well described, but improved ventilation has been shown to provide benefits if only the supplied air is clean. As a crude indicator, the concentration of carbon dioxide can be used; when ventilation results in carbon dioxide levels below 1,000 ppm (parts per million) and probably even lower than 900 ppm, then learning is not hampered.

Improved ventilation will also have other benefits:

  • it will considerably reduce absence rates among pupils, most likely because their health conditions will improve
  • absence rates will also be reduced with improved filtration.

Through modelling, both methods have been shown to effectively reduce the risk of transmission of pathogens through the air.

NOISE AND LIGHTING

Noise is detrimental too. Obviously, high levels of noise should be avoided, but the school location plays an important role too. Intermittent and loud noises, such as the one close to airports, have negative effects on skills needed for proper learning. Noise is particularly undesirable for children with disabilities such as ADHD, two-language children, and alike.

Light and access to light have also been documented to affect learning, including the view out. The light should be controlled rather than monotonous, as different tasks performed by pupils may need different light intensity levels.  Furthermore, light is known to be a strong arousing factor.

What we do not know is how the different parameters defining good classroom environmental quality interact, and what should be the combination of different parameters for the optimal learning experience.

Before new findings are available, the principles for achieving optimal learning specific to each of the parameters, mentioned above should be followed so that the potential risks are reduced to the minimum.

Finally, the economic value of the environmental effects on learning can be assessed, as health aspects are obvious. There have been a few attempts to do so, and the estimated figures are certainly not negligible. But truly, are they so important? The most significant matter should probably be the creation of a good start in life for young generations and a good experience at the outset of life; similar to how it is done in many workplaces that create an inviting and admirable working environment. Is this so difficult?
