Performs various support functions in research laboratory using proper procedures to avoid the risk of laboratory-acquired infection or sample-to-sample contamination. Maintains and cleans equipment and the facility; maintains and restocks supplies; and maintains computer database. Works under direct supervision. Attention to detail is essential while dealing with multiple tasks. Flexibility is important in adjusting to frequent changes in work volume.

Requires a high school diploma or GED. Coursework in mathematics and relevant sciences. Must have previous work experience that demonstrates organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task. Requires manual dexterity, accurate typing, and good communication skills. Must be able to prioritize and adjust to changes in work volume. Experience with Excel software is preferred.

Contract Period

Without a fixed term. Payments: US$20 - US$45 / hr (depending on the volume of projects and tasks). You're free to set your own hours, as long as you meet the established deadlines and reach the minimum number of hours a week (explained in the topic below).

Skills/ Prerequisites needed

You must have access to a smartphone, tablet or computer and be able to work remotely. Be able to work independently. Project Assistant

Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position, providing project support for a grant.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Project Support: Assist in various project-related activities, such as graphic design, video editing, research design, data collection, analysis, and documentation.
  • Communication: Collaborate with team members and project participants through effective communication channels, providing regular updates, and addressing any queries or concerns.
  • Presentation and Reporting: Prepare presentations, reports, and summaries for project meetings, conferences, or other dissemination activities.
  • Project Coordination: Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth coordination of project activities, deadlines, and milestones.
  • Ad hoc Tasks: Assist with any additional tasks assigned by the PI, Co-PI or other team members, as required. Such tasks may involve manual labor. 

Required Competencies

  • Ability to assist professional staff with assigned administrative tasks and projects.
  • Must be able to work with persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to represent the grant team and project in a professional manner.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to travel by air or automobile.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in verbal or written format.
  • Ability to carry items up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience with Word and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).
  • Experience with video editing and graphic design.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.  This position does not support visa sponsorship for continued employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference given to candidates with previous experience working with Native American organizations and/or non-profits.
  • Experience with MS Office, Adobe, and Blackboard preferred.
