In spite of the cutthroat competition, changing business models, thin profit margins and other turbulent industry nature, Ethiopian Airlines continued to register a successful record since its establishment. In order to be competitive, profitability of a firm plays an undeniable role and investigation of the factors determining profitability of a firm would provide useful insights. Therefore, the main purpose of the study is to show factors that determine Ethiopian Airlines profitability. The civil aviation industry in India is one of the fastest growing industries in the world with private sector accounting for more than 75% of the market share and currently ranks at the 3rd position globally. It is expected to become the largest air passenger and transport market by 2024 after overtaking UK. However, this growth is only limited to a certain airlines and many have succumbed in front of their huge losses. This paper aims to identify the reasons of such phenomenal growth in some airlines and at the same time understand what went wrong with the others due to which they faced losses and ultimately had to be shut down. This paper is curated after a rigorous research and study both primary and secondary in order to get a true and fair picture of the scenario in India as well as abroad with regards to the aviation industry and to understand the consumer preferences for the same.

A firm's profitability is critical to its competitiveness and sustainability. This research looked at the elements that influence airline profitability in Nigeria. From 2005 to 2019, two airlines were picked, and their data were retrieved from Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). From estimated quarterly panel data using E-views 8 and SPSS 22, the overall findings of the regression study demonstrate that with ROA used as a proxy for profitability, the R-square is 83.6 per cent and 89.4 per cent, respectively for Aero contractors and Medview airline, representing 83.6 per cent and 89.4 per cent of the changes in profitability of the Aero contractors and Medview in the sample, respectively, could be explained by changes in the study's independent variables, namely growth, liquidity, leverage, lease, tangibility, fuel cost and personnel cost. Besides the total of the explanatory variables, growth, leverage and tangibility are statically significant at a 5% level of significant Aero Contractors. Growth, leverage, leasing cost, fuel cost, and staff cost, on the other hand, are statistically significant at the 5% level of significance for Medview airlines. Profiteering, expansion, leverage, and tangibility are the primary activities of any airline firm. Lease cost, fuel cost, and staff cost show a statistically significant positive link with the profitability metric ROA. As a result, stakeholders of Nigerian airlines should prioritize profitability over other criteria in this study. Airline executives should do a comprehensive analysis of all potential elements impacting their company's profitability in the literature, including aspects other than economic variables. According to the findings of this study, political issues account for a greater proportion of the reasons why airlines fail in Nigeria.

The objective of the study was to establish determinants for the profitability margins at Kenya Airlines in the aviation industry. The study objective of the study was to establish the extent of which management structure had on the airlines profit. The Kenya airlines over period of time from the year 2007 have experienced low profitability margins causing shareholders loss on their wealth, it further resulted to low pricing and devaluing of the Kenya Airlines wealth capital accumulation and the losses resulted to retrenchment of workers/employees and low GDP growth contribution. The target population were all the airlines in Kenya, thus a census study was conducted from 273 managers from the top, middle and functional levels were sampled though the use of questionnaires. Several sampling techniques were used that is the non-probability design through the use of both purposive and convenience and probability. The study used the descriptive research design, and data was collected through the use of questionnaires (structured and unstructured) to collect both primary data and secondary data be used. The data was analyzed and presented through use of descriptive analysis, probit regression, content analysis and the SPSS version 20 was used to analyse the content of the study. The study found that all the variables of the study had a positive impact on the profitability of airlines in the aviation industry in Kenya and thus they were statistically significant according to the findings of the study. In conclusion the study recommended several actions that need to be considered for the airline to return to paths of profitability. That is; there is need for airlines to implement prices that are inexpensive to passengers, the management structure effect on performance should be implemented appropriately because their decisions have effect on profitability.

The air transport industry is a dynamic sector and operates in a dynamic environment. This situation leads to intense competition among airlines and, consequently, to a search for new methods to improve the operational performance. It is claimed that revealing the factors affecting the operational performance of airline companies might provide them with strategic advantages in such a competitive market. Therefore, this study attempts to fill a gap existant in the current literature by empirically examining the factors determining the operational performance of airline companies. The operational data for the period between 1990 and 2017 of 52 airlines, which control more than 90% of the global air passenger transport industry, were analyzed using panel data analysis. The results of the study show that the number of passengers carried, the load factor, the number of flights made by the airlines, the rate of use of the aircraft and the amount of cargo carried by the airlines significantly affect their operational performance. Küresel hava yolcu taşımacılığı endüstrisinin %90'ından fazlasını kontrol eden 52 havayolu işletmesinin 1990 ve 2017 yılları arasındaki operasyonel verileri panel veri analizi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmanın sonuçları, taşınan yolcu sayısının, doluluk oranının, havayollarının yaptığı uçuş sayısının, uçağın kullanım oranının ve taşınan kargo miktarının operasyonel performansı anlamlı olarak etkilediğini göstermektedir.
