Since Saudi Arabia is known for its generous and giving culture, we figured it would only make sense to embrace that charitable spirit to celebrate Saudi National Day. This year, we’re offering these presentation slides to help commemorate the KSA’s past, present, and future.
What is Saudi National Day?
For nearly thirty years, King Abdul Aziz Al Saud strove to join the Nejd and Hijaz regions into his kingdom. Finally, on September 23, 1932, he announced the nation’s unification under the new Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
And now in 2022, we celebrate 92 years of this Kingdom by commemorating its past and reflecting on the forecasted Vision 2030. The projects strive to solidify Saudi Arabia as a hub for technology and tourism.
This year, there are several reasons to celebrate Saudi National Day, among them:
Renewing your spirit of belonging. Join in on the festivities and engage with the community around you to renew your passion and belonging in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Appreciating the opportunities it provides. It’s a nation that seeks to empower its citizens and residents and provide them with what they need to contribute to the Kingdom’s continuous growth and prosperity.
Enjoying the beautiful historic, cultural, and religious sites it homes. Immerse yourself in the rich heritage harbored all across the Kingdom. From Mecca to AlUla, Saudi Arabia’s care for its sites made it an exciting destination for tourists and investors.
At Prezlab, we are celebrating by extending our tools to help you make the most of your celebrations. Download the slides and customize your own Saudi National Day celebratory presentation.

The purpose of this cross-cultural comparative case study is to explore the major factors affecting Emirati and Saudi students’ cultural challenges and their coping strategies in U.S. universities, which is a part of a larger study. The focus is whether or not these students were successful in their adaptations to western cultural leading into higher levels of English language proficiency and academic achievement (Kim, 1988).The research design is qualitative using interviews with three Emirati and three Saudi students in U.S. Universities. The interviews results indicate that female Emirati and Saudi students face communication difficulties with male students because they come from a conservative culture. Family and Gulf Region students’ support facilitates Emirati and Saudi students’ adjustment to American universities and culture. In general, results show more similarities between Emirati and Saudi students’ cultural challenges at U.S. universities because UAE and Saudi Arabia went through similar education system reform history, and similar “Sharieah” law that impacted Education and social life.

This course is an introduction to contemporary Saudi Arabia that goes beyond Wahhabism, oil and the royal family Al Saud. The course introduces Saudi society through the eyes of its people: Saudi academics, youth, women, social activists, intellectuals, artists, migrants, pilgrims, and the marginalized. Every course session centers on one primary source (a YouTube clip, a memoir, a petition, a cartoon, a commentary, a blog post, a tweet, an art installation, a Netflix episode, etc.). Through diverse primary materials together with selected writings about the kingdom, the course introduces students to key debates in contemporary Saudi Arabia: the social effects of oil; questions of citizenship and social contract; belonging and tradition in times of globalization; gender norms and the feminist movement; the growing generational gap and changing family relations; social activism; sectarianism and the Shia of the Kingdom; Wahhabism and the place of religion in Saudi Arabia today.

The number of Saudi students studying in the United States quintupled from 3,035 students in 2005 to 15,810 students in 2010 due to a fully funded Saudi government scholarship (Open Doors, 2010). As students originating in a cultural background differing from the prevailing principles of their higher education institutions, Saudi students face several challenges. The cultural challenges are one of the most frequently apparent among these challenges (Constantine, Okazaki, & Utsey, 2004; Miller, 2002). Building upon the relationship between the cultural beliefs and student academic achievement, this study aimed at examining the cultural aspects of the increased presence of Saudi students enrolled in the various academic programs at a Mid-Western research university, Riverside State University, a pseudonym. The study followed the qualitative method for data collection and analysis. After conducting initial site observations and document reviews, primary data were collected from open ended interviews with students, administrators, and professors at the university. Study findings revealed various cultural implications arising from the continuous increase of Saudi students on American higher education campuses. The cultural construct was shown to have several subsequent aspects including: transition, academic life, and social life. University support systems were explored to demonstrate a replicable model that can be adopted to ease the cultural adjustment of these students. Recommendations demonstrate how various techniques can be utilized to increase Saudi students’ engagement for academic success.

This article presents the experience of a PhD dissertation that provides a new narrative of the change of culture regarding women in Saudi Arabia. The main question of the research was is: How has the culture regarding women in Saudi society developed since the beginning of the twentieth century? The study explored the economic, social and historical context of the cultural change in Saudi Arabia to understand how the culture react to these circumstances. An ethnohistory approach was incorporated as it offers the facility to record the change of native culture, which contributes to our understanding of current culture. The main data method is in-depth interviews with seventeen women from three generations about their life stories. The results present an ethnographic portrait of the lives of Saudi women and the changes of the culture according to their stories through the last century and how different economic, political and social factors have affected this culture. The study contr...

The main aim of this study was to explore EFL and native speakers' differences in communicating with one another. A total of 5 advanced EFL speakers and 3 native English speakers enrolled in two sets of semi-structured interviews. Two rubrics were used to compare the changes in communication among the two groups. The analysis of the qualitative data revealed that there were significant differences in the intercultural communication between EFL and native speakers. Speaker's style of delivery, self-correction, and the avoidance of long answers were the least influencing factors in determining levels of communication hindrances, while the deficiency of fluency and accuracy, intergroup anxiety, and lack of understanding were significant factors in influencing the communication. These findings had several significant implications for both developing and constructing cross-cultural communication skills training, particularly for multinational organizations, and business studies.

End of the Line? Saudi Arabia ‘forced to scale back’ plans for desert megacity
Crown prince’s pet project was sold as a 105-mile-long city of the future, but finances may have led to a rethink
It was billed as a glass-walled city of the future, an ambitious centrepiece of the economic plan backed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to transition Saudi Arabia away from oil dependency.
Now, however, plans for the mirror-clad desert metropolis called the Line have been scaled down and the project, which was envisaged to stretch 105 miles (170km) is expected to reach just a mile and a half by 2030.
Dreamed up as a linear city that would eventually be home to about 9 million people on a footprint of just 13 sq miles, the Line is part of a wider Neom project. Now at least one contractor has begun dismissing workers.
The scaling down of Prince Mohammed’s most grandiose project was reported by Bloomberg , which said it had seen documents relating to the project.
The project, which had been slated to cost $1.5tn (£1.2tn), was pitched as a reinvention of urban design. However, it has long attracted scepticism and criticism, not least after the reported execution of several members of the Howeitat tribe who had protested over plans to construct on their ancestral lands.
Then there were reports of Prince Mohammed’s changing vision for the project, budget overspends and an ever-changing roster of key staff, with some who have worked on the project describing it as “untethered from reality”.
According to Bloomberg, the scaling back of the Line comes as the overall Neom budget for 2024 has yet to be approved by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund amid declining cash reserves.
Promotional presentations had suggested something out of a science fiction novel running inland into Tabuk province from the mouth of the Gulf of Aqaba where it enters the Red Sea.
A few hundred metres wide, the linear city had been sold as the future of accessible urban planning, with amenities for residents within close walking distance to accommodation and districts connected by one of the world’s fastest trains.
Promotional material described the Line in almost mystical terms: a “cognitive city” and a “civilisation revolution” where amenities would be provided by artificial intelligence.
Prince Mohammed, who has long been accused of involvement in the killing of the Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul in 2018, had described the city project as “tackling the challenges facing humanity in urban life today” to “shine a light on alternative ways to live”.
Not everyone, however, has been convinced by the prince’s glossy prospectus. Writing in the New York Times in 2021 at the time Neom released a video describing the prospects of living between the city’s silvered walls, the US journalist and author Robert Worth said: “To watch the crown prince’s promotional video is to be immersed in a distinctively Saudi form of arrogance, blending religious triumphalism and royal grandiosity.”
And hubris, too, apparently.

Humiliation for Saudi Arabia as it's 'forced to scale back $1.5trillion plans for 106-mile-long city The Line to just 1.5miles with workers already being laid off at desert construction site'
- The Line is part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's Vision 2030 project
Saudi Arabia has been forced to scale back its $1.5trillion plans for a 106-mile linear desert city, according to reports, in a humiliating decision for the kingdom.
The Line - part of the country's audacious and futuristic NEOM project - was meant to be home to around 1.5 million residents by the end of the decade.
Now, according to people familiar with the project, the development will only stretch 1.5 miles and house fewer than 300,000 residents by 2030.
As a result of the reduction to the construction of The Line, at least one contractor has started dismissing workers it employs on the site, Bloomberg reports.
Stunning concept images released by the kingdom in 2022 showed a vast, mirrored structure cutting through the desert near crystal blue ocean waters.
It is one of several developments that form the country's NEOM project - which also includes an industrial city, ports and tourism developments.

But The Line was the jewel in Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's Vision 2030 project, which was set in motion to diversify his country's oil dependent economy, as well as its society and culture, and improve the image on the world stage.
The Kingdom said the project, which is expected to cost $1.5 trillion, would be an 'unprecedented living experience' that preserves 'surrounding nature'.
The megacity was to feature two parallel skyscrapers extending across a swathe of desert and mountain terrain, with mirrored facades on the outside.
Saudi officials said it would be built in stages, and would eventually cover a 106-mile stretch of desert along the coast of the Red Sea in the western Tabuk province.
However, Bloomberg reports that these plans have now been dramatically scaled back - with the 106 mile structure being reduced to just 1.5 miles.
It is not clear whether it will still feature its twin skyscrapers seen in the concept imagery, or if the whole project will have to be reconsidered.
Citing its sources, the publication reports that Saudi Arabia has not yet approved NEOM's 2024 budget, and that its vast expenditure is beginning to concern officials.
Some projects outlined in the Vision 2030 are already expected to be delayed past the end of the decade, with Finance Minister Mohammed Al Jadaan saying in December that longer is needed to 'build factories' and 'sufficient human resources.'
'The delay or rather the extension of some projects will serve the economy,' he said.
NEOM was first announced in 2017, with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman delivering a presentation on The Line in July 2022.
It has consistently raised eyebrows for proposed flourishes like flying taxis and robot maids, even as architects and economists have questioned its feasibility.
At just 200 yards wide, The Line is intended to be Saudi Arabia's answer to unchecked and wasteful urban sprawl, layering homes, schools and parks on top of each other in what planners term 'Zero Gravity Urbanism'.
Promotional material says residents will have 'all daily needs' reachable within a five-minute walk, while also having access to other perks like outdoor skiing facilities and 'a high-speed rail with an end-to-end transit of 20 minutes'.
In his presentation, Prince Mohammed sketched out an even more ambitious vision, describing a car-free utopia that would become the planet's most liveable city.
Analysts noted at the time, though, that plans for NEOM have changed course over the years, fuelling doubts about whether The Line will ever become reality.
NEOM was once touted as a regional 'Silicon Valley', a biotech and digital hub spread over 10,000 square miles.
READ MORE: Saudi Arabia's 100-mile-long and 1,500ft-high linear megacity in the desert will be a 'deathtrap' for billions of migrating birds, experts warn
Now it's a vehicle for reimagining urban life on a footprint of just 34 square kilometres, and addressing what Prince Mohammed describes as 'liveability and environmental crises'.
'The concept has morphed so much from its early conception that it's sometimes hard to determine its direction: scaling down, scaling up, or making an aggressive turn sideways,' said Robert Mogielnicki of the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington, following the presentation in 2022.
Officials had earlier said NEOM's population would top one million, but Prince Mohammed said the number would actually hit 1.2million by 2030 before climbing to nine million by 2045.
In a promotional video released by the Kingdom, it was suggested that nine million people could live in The Line at full capacity.
The eye-popping total is part of a hoped-for nationwide population boom that Prince Mohammed said would be necessary to make Saudi Arabia - the world's biggest crude exporter - an economic powerhouse.
The goal for 2030 is to have 50 million people - half Saudis and half foreigners - living in the kingdom, up from roughly 34 million today.
By 2040 the target is 100 million people, he said in 2022.
'That's the main purpose of building NEOM, to raise the capacity of Saudi Arabia, get more citizens and more people in Saudi Arabia. And since we are doing it from nothing, why should we copy normal cities?'
The site will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy and feature 'a year-round temperate micro-climate with natural ventilation', the promotional video said.
The feasibility of the project had long been called into question.
Architect and urban planner Etienne Bou-Abdo said of the concept images last year: 'the 3D images presented are not classical 3D architecture images', and the designers of the project 'have rather called upon video game designers'.
He stated that the plan includes 'a lot of technology that we don't have today'.
A number of The Line's key features, particulary those related to energy and transport, are based on technologies that do not exist even in prototype form.
