Money Class 3 Notes Maths

Expressing Money in Words and Figures

We can express money both in words and figures.

  • Imagine Aman has thirty-eight rupees and fifty paise .
  • When we write this down, we use special symbols.
  •  We write  ₹ for rupees, so ten rupees look like ₹ 10 .
  • To show the fifty paise, we use a dot (.) instead of saying 'and.' So, the total is ₹ 38.50 .

Money Class 3 Notes Maths

Examples:   We write (a) Eight paise as 8 p or ₹ 0.08 (b) Fifty paise as 50 p or ₹ 0.50 (c) Seventy-five paise as 75 p or ₹ 0.75

Money Class 3 Notes Maths

Conversion of Rupees into Paise

We follow the following rules to convert rupees into paise.

Rule 1: To convert rupees into paise, multiply the amount of rupees by 100 .

Examples: Since, 1 rupee = 100 paise ₹ 9 = 9 × 100 p = 900 p ₹ 48 = 48 × 100 p = 4800 p

Rule 2:  To convert rupees and paise into paise, multiply the amount of rupees by 100  and add it to the number of paise

₹  0.075

₹ 7.5

₹  0.75

₹  75

75 paise= 75/100 rupee=  ₹  0.75 - Option C is the correct answer.

₹ 15.90 = 15 rupees 90 paise = 15 × 100 p + 90 p = 1500 p + 90 p = 1590 p   ₹ 65.05 = 65 rupees 5 paise = 65 × 100 p + 5 p = 6500 p + 5 p = 6505 p
Edurev Tips:  Just remove the dot and you will get the answer in paise.

Old Paise Coins

Conversion of Paise into Rupees

Rule:  To convert paise into rupees and paise, we separate the ones and tens digits from the given number of paise. The number formed by ones and tens digits gives us the paise and remaining number gives us the rupees.
6825 paise = ₹ 68.25 5550 paise = ₹ 55.50 915 paise = ₹ 9.15

Addition of Money

Method: Step 1: Arrange the amounts to be added in the columns of rupees and paise. Step 2:  Add the paise. Step 3: Now, add the rupees.

Example 1: Add ₹ 42.15 and ₹ 85.74.

Alternate Method: Thus, ₹ 42.15 + ₹ 85.74 = ₹ 127.89.

Example 2: Add ₹ 157.75 and ₹ 64.87.

Thus, ₹ 157.75 + ₹ 64.87 =  ₹ 222.62.
Edurev Tips:  It is clear from the above example that while adding money, we can carry from ones to tens and from tens to hundreds, etc., in the same way as we did in the case of numbers.

Example 3: Saurav had ₹ 698.27 with him in his bank and his father gave him thirty-eight rupees and five paise. How much did Saurav have then?

Thus, Saurav had ₹ 736.32 with him.

Subtraction of Money

Method: Step 1: Arrange the bigger amounts above smaller amount in the columns of rupees and paise. Step 2: Subtract the paise. Step 3:  Subtract the rupees.

Example 4: Subtract ₹ 43.15 from ₹ 88.78.

Thus, ₹ 88.78 – ₹ 43.15 = ₹ 45.63 Alternate Method:

Example 5: Subtract ₹ 49.17 from ₹ 92.06.

Thus, ₹ 92.06 – ₹ 49.17 = ₹ 42.89.

Example 6: Amina spends ₹ 110.65 on gifts for her mother. Her sister spends 240 rupees and 7 paise. How much more does she spend than Amina?

Thus, Amina’s sister spends ₹ 129.42 more than Amina on their mother’s gifts.
Edurev Tips: In the p column, always write paise in two figures, i.e., 7 paise should be written as 07 p.

Multiplication of Money

Method: Step 1: Multiply the rupees and paise, as you do in case of ordinary numbers. Step 2: Put the point (.) after the second digit from the right.

Example 7: One litre of milk costs ₹ 65.75. How much would 8 litres of milk cost?

Cost of 1 litre of milk = ` 65.75 Cost of 8 litres of milk = ₹ 65.75 × 8 = ₹ 526.00.

money assignment for class 3

What is money? When we all go for shopping we buy some stuff but how do we pay for it? We all know the answer “We pay using money". We all it daily for our needs but what money is and what are its uses and applications? Let’s just find out.

  • The currency used in any country is called as money. Like in India we use Indian Rupee (INR) which is the currency of India and hence money in simple language. Thus the coins, the notes of different denominations are all money.
  • RUPEE has been derived from a Sanskrit word ‘RAUPYA’ which means silver coins.

The currencies used in different countries are mentioned in the table

Different Denominations

The different types of notes and coins used across the whole country centralized by the Government are called as denominations of the money or currency.

  • The different denominations of The Indian Rupee are ₨ 5, ₨ 10, ₨ 20, ₨ 50, ₨ 100, ₨ 200, ₨ 500, ₨ 2000.
  • n our Indian currency system 1 Rupee = 100 Paisa.
  •  It means 1 Paisa = 0.01 Rupee.
  •  At earlier times we also had 25 paisa and 50 paisa coins.
  •  We get our currency in form of notes as mentioned above and also in the form of coins like Rs 1 coin, Rs 2 coin, Rs 5 coin, Rs 10 coin.
  •  1 Rupee = 25 Paisa x 4 , hence 4 coins of 25 Paisa will make a rupee.

Maths class 3 Money

Role of Money in Mathematics

Like everywhere else Maths has very great use and importance in the field of money and money related problems. We use it while shopping, while calculating bills, while receiving money from someone or giving money to someone.

  • Thus Maths and Money are inter-related to each other and we need both of them in our daily life.

Let’s just understand it in a better way with the help of an example

Example 1: A shopkeeper is selling Ghee at Rs 230/kg. If Aman has to buy 5 kg of Ghee, How much will he have to pay to the shopkeeper?

Rate of Ghee = ₨ 230/kg

Quantity of Ghee which Aman has to buy = 5 kg

Therefore for 5kg cost of Ghee = ₨ 230 x 5 = ₨ 1150.

Hence Aman has to pay ₨ 1150 to the shopkeeper.

Example 2 : If in the above example if Aman gave ₨ 2000 note to the shopkeeper. How much cash would he receive back?

  Solution :

Amount given by Aman to the shopkeeper = ₨ 2000

Cost of 5 kg Ghee = Rs 1150

Therefore cash received by Aman

= (Rs2000 – Rs1150) = Rs 850.

  • These types are problems related to money are dealt with using mathematics.

Let’s just go through some more examples

Example 3 : Ravi is going for a dinner with 4 of his friends. After having dinner the bill came out to be Rs 2356. But Ravi has only Rs 1980. So how much money he has to borrow from his friends?

Total amount of dinner = Rs 2356

Amount Ravi has = Rs1980

Therefore amount of money Ravi has to ask his friends is

= Rs 2356 – Rs 1980 = Rs 376.

Example 4 : Convert Rs 23.57 into Paisa.

Solution - As we know Rs 23.57 = Rs 23 + 57 Paisa.

Now 1 Rupee = 100 Paisa

Therefore Rs 23 = Rs 23 x 100 = 2300 Paisa.

And hence Rs 23.57 = 2300 + 57 = 2357 Paisa.

Example 5 : If 5 pair of socks costs Rs 1000. Then how much would a single pair of socks cost?

  Solution:

5 Pairs costs = Rs 1000

Therefore a single pair would cost = Rs 1000 ÷ 5 = Rs 200.

Practice Questions

Question 1 - Express 19.47 in words.

Question 2 - 3 friends share Rs 450. How much will each of them get?

Question 3 - Rate of a Pen is Rs 15. And the rate of Toothpaste is Rs 23 costlier than the pen. What is the rate of Toothpaste?

Question 4 - State True or False

  • Rs 12.32 = 1232 Paisa

Question 5 -How many 50 paisa coins make Rs 4?

Question 6 - Convert 705 Paisa in Rupee.

  • 1 Rupee = 100 Paisa

Addition of Money

In addition to the money we will learn how to add the amounts of money involving rupees and paise together.

We carry out with money the same way as in decimal numbers.

While adding we need to follow that the amount of money is converted into paisa.

Two different methods to solve addition involving rupees and paise. Students can practice both methods.

(i) Adding the amounts with conversion into paisa

(ii) Adding the amounts without conversion into paisa

For example Rs25.30 + Rs40.43

Addition of money

Addition of money

Subtraction of money

Subtraction in money by using the conversion method, we convert rupees and paise into paise and then subtract the smaller amount of paise from the greater amount.

The obtained numbers are subtracted as ordinary numbers and if required finally we put a dot after two digits from the right.

For example Rs72.98 - Rs32.84

Solved Examples

1. The shirt cost Rs300 and a pair of shoes cost Rs700. Rohan buys a shirt and a pair of shoes. How much money does Rohan pay for the shirt and shoes together?

Ans1. Cost of shirt = Rs300

Cost of pair of shoes = Rs700

Total cost of the shirt and a pair of shoes = Cost of shirt + cost of pair of shoes

                                                                    = Rs300 + Rs700

                                                                    = Rs1000

Hence, Rohan would pay an amount of Rs1000 to buy a shirt and a pair of shoes together.

2. Akshay has total money of Rs2000. He buys a chair for Rs 1200 and a table for Rs 700. How much money is left with him?

Ans2. Total Money with Akshay = Rs2000

Cost of chair = Rs1200

Cost of Table = Rs700

Total money spent by Akshay = cost of Chair + cost of Table

                                                      = Rs1200 + Rs700

                                                      = Rs1900

Money left with Akshay = Rs2000 - R1900

                                            = Rs100

Williams-Sonoma must pay $3.2 million for falsely claiming products were "Made in the USA"

The newest civil penalty is the largest ever in a "made in the usa" case, according to the federal trade commission..

money assignment for class 3

Williams-Sonoma is facing a costly penalty for falsely claiming that some of its products were "Made in the USA," the Federal Trade Commission has announced.

Under the terms of a settlement, the San Francisco-based home furnishing retailer agreed to pay a $3.17 million fine for violating a 2020 order that required the company to be truthful about where its products were made. That order stemmed from a previous lawsuit against Williams-Sonoma that also ended with the company agreeing to a $1 million fine.

But in the FTC's latest lawsuit against Williams-Sonoma, the federal agency stated that the company has continued to make deceptive claims about the origins of its products, many of which were in fact found to be made in China.

The newest civil penalty is the largest ever in a "Made in the USA" case, the federal agency, which enforces consumer protection laws, said in a Friday press release .

Zillow addresses viral 'Bluey' epiosde: 'Moving 'might just be a good thing' real-estate company says in new ad

Tip came from consumer who purchased mattress pad

The FTC first sued Williams-Sonoma in 2020 after investigating reports of multiple products that the company had falsely listed on its website and catalog as being made in the United States.

Among those products were the company's Goldtouch Bakeware, some of its Rejuvenation home-improvement products and certain pieces of upholstered furniture sold under the Pottery Barn Teen and Pottery Barn Kids brands, the FTC said . The company was required to pay $1 million to the FTC and agreed to an order that required them to stop their deceptive claims and follow the agency's "Made in USA" requirements.

But earlier this year, a consumer alerted TruthInAdvertising.org about a mattress pad falsely advertised on Pottery Barn Teen’s website as “Crafted in America from domestic and imported materials.” The mattress pad that arrived was labeled as “Made in China,” according to Truth in Advertising, an independent watchdog, which provided screenshots on its website.

TruthInAdverstising.org tipped off the FTC about the product page advertising the mattress pad, which sparked an investigation and lawsuit against Williams-Sonoma.

In addition to the civil penalty, the federal court settlement also requires Williams-Sonoma to submit annual compliance certifications. The FTC's Made in USA Labeling Rule , which went into effect in August 2021, made it possible to impose civil penalties on companies found to be in violation.

“Williams-Sonoma’s deception misled consumers and harmed honest American businesses," FTC Chair Lina M. Khan said in a statement last week. "Today’s record-setting civil penalty makes clear that firms committing Made-in-USA fraud will not get a free pass.”

Williams-Sonoma did not immediately respond Monday morning to USA TODAY's request to comment.

What to know about products falsely listed as 'Made in the USA'

The FTF determined that Williams-Sonoma falsely advertised its Pottery Barn Teen mattress pads as “Crafted in America from domestic and imported materials" even though they were imported from China.

The agency then investigated six other products that were found to be a violation of the 2020 order regarding "Made in USA" products. According to a complaint, Williams-Sonoma was not able to prove either that the materials were sourced from the United States or that final assembly took place in the U.S.

Truth in Advertising said that Williams-Sonoma now accurately lists the mattress as imported.
