  • 12 May, 2013

I am keen to pursue MSc (PGCertPGDip) Logistics and Supply Chain Management progamme at the University of Brighton because the professional world today is highly competitive and the importance of supply chain management and logistics in globalization, and digitization has multiplied. As I aim to improve and strengthen my knowledge of this Logistics and Supply Chain Management. This course covers topics such as Digital Supply Chain, International Logistics, Operations Management, Supply Chain Analytics, Enterprise Systems, and Strategic Purchasing. These are the aspects that have caught my attention and stimulated my imagination with the necessary innovations and strategic performances in business. I believe that it will be the right choice for my plans and objectives.

By researching the website of the University of Brighton I have seen the modules, syllabus, and learning outcomes of the Logistics and Supply Chain Management MSc (PGCertPGDip) progamme. This course is designed for graduates in any subject with or without work experience. The programme helps prepare me for a career in the alternative supply chain of case studies, company inspections, and paid work experience. This course includes face-to-face learning tutorials, workshops, laboratory classes, and studio sessions. This course is organized in 3 terms. In the first term of this course international logistics and financial and managerial accounting conduct operations in the supply, production, distribution of equipment, and strategy methods. The second term of this course provides knowledge development of business and management research methods, enterprise systems, chain management, various workshops, and strategic approaches. The third term of this course will help explore purchasing policies and practices in a broader global context. Since I have had the opportunity to study this course, I look forward to improving my skills and knowledge by taking this Logistics and Supply Chain Management course at Brighton University. If I can successfully complete this course it will create a platform for me to explore different career opportunities such as logistics analyst, purchasing manager, supply chain manager, and logistics manager. I believe this course will be the right choice for my career plans and objectives.

I completed my secondary and intermediate from the business studies group respectively. After that, I studied Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Information System at Daffodil International University. In my bachelor's degree, I was involved in various co-curricular activities to enrich my knowledge. Now I have come to realize that, I need to explore more about the business world to progress in my career level and for this reason, I decide to pursue my higher studies in the UK. As I want to explore my career in the Logistics and Supply Chain Management sector, this course will give me an upper hand to understand any business contexts and situations. I think I should gain more knowledge in the field of logistics and Supply Chain Management so I decided to continue my further studies with this course. This course provides academic knowledge and skills to pursue career opportunities worldwide and will help me develop a broader understanding of specific areas. As of the moment, I am interested in learning all the related skills and knowledge from this course. So, I believe that this course will make me fit for my successful career and help in my employment.

It was difficult to pick a specialization from the various options available to me, but I finally decided to build a career in the Logistics and Supply Chain Management section. Studying this course provides a variety of opportunities that enable me to adopt a creative and constructively critical approach to practice, supported by appropriate reading and research. This course module includes International Logistics and Finance, Supply Chain Analytics, and Operations Management for Logistics, Enterprise Systems and E-procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Research Methods for Masters Degrees, and Strategic Purchasing. For professionals, I believe this course will be the right choice for those looking for a successful career.

There are several reasons why I should have completed my higher degree in the UK. There is a long history of welcoming international students to study at UK universities and I like UK culture because they teach to be realistic. It is true that the UK is a well-known and well-liked destination for students looking to study abroad. Because of the UK's longstanding reputation for high-quality higher education, I have decided to pursue my higher education there. However, the study environment in my country follows the theoretical system of education which is quite different and no soft skills are acquired. The UK maintains a quality management system with high standards in all fields. Affordable tuition fees have attracted me the most. In addition, an academic degree from the United Kingdom is recognized and acclaimed by employers around the world. The transferable skills from the UK are key to advancing graduates through organizational growth and gaining a competitive advantage. This is again a reason to study in the UK. A recent survey of International Graduation Results in 2019 produced by iGraduate by Universities UK International shows that 82% of international graduates say their UK degree is valuable for financial investment and a similar number of graduates say they are satisfied or delighted with their careers. About 83% think a UK degree has helped them get a job. These aspects have driven my ambition to get a degree from a UK institution. I believe it will be helpful for my professional career.

I like the University of Brighton because it incredibly welcomes international students and I am attracted to this course because it offers a different perspective in an area where I want to study. With over 18,985students, the university offers outstanding higher education for people from all backgrounds and over 150 countries, with a significant mature student body and a growing international graduate community. The university is ranked 601st in the QS World University Rankings by Top Universities and has an overall score of 4 stars, according to student reviews in the study portals. According to DLHE 2018-2019, 89% of graduates are working and/or further studying within three months of graduation. In addition, the university has a well-equipped campus. By researching a lot, I have come to know that, the University of Brighton provide tuition to their students that goes way beyond the classroom. It enables me to take pride in helping businesses take me to new horizons by applying the knowledge and skills I can gain through Logistics and Supply Chain Management. So, I believe this course is right for my future career so I will never look back if I get the chance to study the course at the University of Brighton.

In personal statement samples by field.

Here is a sample personal statement of a supply chain professional who applied and was admitted to top graduate programs in supply chain and inventory management. She has graciously shared her successful essay so that prospective applicants can benefit from it.

Sample Personal Statement in Supply Chain Management

In today’s world, few have the chance to complete high school, even fewer get to go to college, and only a handful are fortunate enough to pursue graduate studies. My country ranks 91 out of the 150 nations on the global literacy index and evens lower in female literacy; being raised in a rural area of the country where education is the least of priorities, I was exposed very early in my life to the disparities that exist between the haves and the have-nots. Therefore, my academic and professional endeavours over the past four years are an attempt at fulfilling the responsibility which comes with my good fortune of being amongst the affluent. In what follows, I discuss how these experiences have shaped my interests and led me to pursue an academic career in Supply Chain Management.

We all have role models – for me, it was my father. As an immigrant to France, he established an extremely profitable restaurant chain from the ground up. He achieved what others take generations to accomplish through meticulous planning, motivation, and perseverance. He always encouraged me to work with him at his restaurant during my vacations which I gladly did. By closely working with him for several years, I have acquired his qualities of superior management and quantitative analysis – essential for a career in business management.

My practical voyage in supply chain began early at my father’s restaurants. At the restaurant, using historical data and applying forecasting techniques, I learned how to handle better lead time to produce better results for our company. In addition, excel-based quantitative modelling and inventory management tools allowed me to accurately stock what was required and discard what was not. These measures significantly reduced our warehousing costs and space.

However, my first academic exposure to the Supply Chain course came when I had to lead a group project for “New Mexico Spinning Mills”, – a textile production facility. After doing brief research by interviewing several employees at the production unit and getting our hands on their supply, demand, and procurement data, I learned how the firm reduced costs and increased productivity by accurately forecasting future needs. They had complex predictive models to churn out expected order levels with high accuracy. This was particularly new for me since the company used Monte Carlo simulation and advanced modelling techniques to ensure excellent precision. Being able to determine their demand, they placed precise orders and effective contracts with their suppliers and reduced any uncertainty.

Recent decades have seen a fundamental shift in the market landscape, with companies taking full advantage of supply chain techniques to improve businesses. Being particularly intrigued by its value proposition, I began my full-time internship at “Morlo Spinning Mills” in their Supply Chain Operations department. My work entailed using various modelling techniques to develop inventory models and creating a performance monitoring system for key business metrics. Here, not only have I acquired a diverse set of analytical skills, but I have also developed an admiration for research in its ability to tackle complex problems arising in practice.

Beyond course and fieldwork, perhaps the most inspiring experience for me was reading the article “Efficient consumer response in Japan Industry concerns, current status, benefits, and barriers to implementation.” It clearly and vividly laid out the importance of the supply chain. Specifically, it talks about one application of supply chain – efficient consumer response (ECR). ECR revolves around using technology and efficient processes to ensure greater customer value. This paper demonstrates how Supply Chain is changing how we think about such problems and continuously improving upon existing solutions to drive efficiency and profitability. As an aspiring academician, I look forward to contributing to this effort.

Through my coursework and internship experiences, I have developed an interest in predictive and descriptive modelling. In my work at my father’s restaurant and internships, I have always seen the immense need for statistics and other analytical techniques to solve procurement issues and dynamic statistical models that govern order replenishment in supply chains.

Because decision problems in these settings involve complex networks, multiple periods, and many products, I have also taken a keen interest in other approximation methods. Therefore, I am visiting Turkey later this month to research entrepreneurship in Supply Chain Management and the role played by universities in Istanbul and business incubators to improve the supply chain in Turkey. I plan to gather information by interviewing our selected audience, including Vice-Chancellors, Rectors, Deans, and Head of Departments or Institutions. The outcome of this is expected to come up with some research papers on and identifying the similarities and complementarities between the two countries in this field.

Warwick’s program in Supply Chain Management is particularly well-aligned with my interests, and I find courses in Procurement & Inventory management and applied statistics particularly appealing. Today, competition in the marketplace is compelling companies to become increasingly creative in optimizing their supply chain. As a result, I am eager to learn advanced techniques through coursework and projects that would eventually help me overcome hurdles that I faced in the restaurant business – and continuously strive to improve profitability.

The interdisciplinary nature of Supply Chain Management at Warwick stems from the diverse backgrounds of its faculty and students; this enables the program to span the spectrum of cutting-edge applied and theoretical research in Supply chain. Given the range of professional experiences, I have had over the years, being a Masters’s student in this department would be the ideal start to my academic career. I am particularly looking forward to studying in the highly competitive environment of Warwick because competition brings out the best in me. In addition, this program will fulfil my passion for applying mathematical theory to solving complex problems and allow me to leverage my analytical skills and industry experience to contribute to the program’s intellectual diversity.

Statement of Purpose – Supply Chain Management

In today’s interconnected and increasingly competitive global economy, companies must have cutting-edge supply chain management in order to stay abreast of changes in global production capacity and adjust accordingly. For my future career, I am interested in contract manufacturing in countries such as China and Korea. Specifically, I hope to work as a Purchasing Manager at a company such as Samsung, which must maintain innovative development and implementation of supply chain strategies in order to stay competitive and profitable on an international scale. By studying at XXX University, I expect to learn more about all of the links in a supply chain and how to make strategic changes as needed to ensure continued competitiveness. Through the extensive academic resources in your program, including not only the classes and lectures but also the industry links and practical experiences, I expect to emerge with a highly practical understanding of how to manage a complex supply chain in the contemporary dynamic business world.

With the academic and work experiences I have accumulated thus far, I feel well prepared and confident to enter your MSc program. In 2012, I earned a Bachelor of Management degree from Goodwell State University, specializing in Financial Management. Through this program, I acquired a general introduction to many aspects related to management, including marketing, supply chain, human resources, finance and accounting. I also worked on a number of research papers concerning, for example, the pricing of IPOs and SWOT analysis of companies. In my senior year, I took an internship in UBC bank, where I gained a much more practical perspective of what I had learned in classes while honing my professional skills and learning of the operations of a successful large-scale company. Since graduation, I have been working in the credit department of MegaSuper Bank, dealing directly with individual and corporate customers and analyzing risk on a daily basis.

My university studies and work experience give me a broad understanding of the business world, and it is because of this perspective that I have decided to focus on supply chain management for my future career. Because supply chain management is an inherently international field, I know that I could benefit greatly by undertaking further studies overseas, which is why I am applying to your university. In preparation for going abroad, I have been studying English intensively, and I recently earned excellent GMAT and IELTS scores, as shown on my CV. By studying in your program, I hope to acquire broader, more in-depth knowledge of this subject, with the goal of going on to a career as a Purchasing Manager. This will require me to have a keen understanding of all links in the supply chain. Through the lectures, case studies, and research project undertaken in your program, I expect to soon have the skills necessary to help companies ensure a competitive supply chain. In other words, I view an education in XXX University as a crucial stepping stone towards my future career.

Sample Statement of Purpose (SOP) For MBA In Supply Chain Management (SCM)

Career Progress Till Date

Early-on, as a teenager, I would accompany my father (Partner, ABC Corporation) during various factory visits. His liberal encouragement towards relating to a variety of personnel and learning about operations made me realize my passion for improvising manufacturing “business systems”.

After completing my graduation (mechanical engineering) and Masters (Engineering Management), I took charge as an IT (1) implementation specialist for “services organizations” such as New York Department of Health. My “system mapping” made it possible to guide core technologists towards customizing high-end computer software for clients. I could succeed at change management through numerous client trainings/interactions often involving very senior professionals.

In February 2009, I joined ABC Corporation – our US$ 18Mn-valued, professionally run, family business. Starting as management trainee, I have optimized various supply-chain and processing activities resulting in greater workforce motivation and record cost efficiencies. I currently lead a handpicked, hierarchical 10-member team.

Career Goals and Value From the MBA

An international-scale responsibility in managing operations for transnational glass producers such as Pilkinton, PPG or Guardian thus becomes a natural progression and near-term goal towards growth at this point. I will thus add value to complex, worldwide glass production operations and the associated supply chain.

Three years post-MBA, I hope to manage a glass-product innovation and commercialization business as product manager. It will facilitate my long term goal (5-6 years post MBA) of starting backward integration (from “Glass processing” to production) at Fuso through a range of specialized “float glass” products. I hope to form a Joint-Venture with a global brand to launch quality and reasonably priced products in the Indian market.

A global M.B.A program is a crucial preparation ground that will enable understanding at an international, cross-functional level of complexity. It will sharpen entrepreneurial instincts and develop a structured approach towards ideation and execution planning.

The ZTT MBA program’s “LEAD” Approach of “self-evaluations” to locate “leadership and learning capacities” will channelize my strengths and improve weaker areas. It will also enhance interpersonal skills in the backdrop of an international cohort. The “manage by designing” and “sustainable enterprise” approach well-resonates with belief in win-win business ecosystems. In addition to a cutting-edge core curriculum, specialist courses such as A, B and C will establish a sound foundation in my chosen focus area.

A premier business school, ZTT provides the platform to learn from faculty, guest speakers and alumni from across the world. The school’s corporate network brings in possibilities of internship and/or employment with leading industrial entities. It is thus my most preferred destination an MBA. ___________________________________________________________________

Sample SOP for Logistics and Supply Chain Management

Here is a sample statement of purpose that students can draw inspiration from while writing their SOPs.

The professional world is highly competitive today, and boundaries are blurring owing to globalization, digitization, and the need for businesses to always stay agile. The importance of supply chain management and logistics has gone up manifold in recent times, particularly since product manufacturing is steadily becoming more concentrated in specific global regions and monopolistic frameworks are being enjoyed by several suppliers. These are aspects that grabbed my attention and made me take up the commerce stream in high school instead of science. The innovations needed in this business field and the strategic execution of several ideas have stimulated my imagination more than any other pursuit.

As I completed my graduation in Commerce with (percentage) of marks, my professor in marketing management encouraged my passion and creativity, which was relevant to logistics and supply chain management. He advised me to pursue higher education in this arena. He also suggested to me the names of some of the reputed universities from where I can pursue my master’s degree.

He recommended several books which I have already read in order to derive a greater understanding of logistics and supply chain management. During my undergraduate days, the research and project work I undertook was more inclined toward this field, although it did cover selling and manufacturing to an extent. In such project work, I was successful in highlighting the importance of a good supply chain and logistics pipeline for business growth and expansion.

With my academic achievements, reference material, and research, I am hugely enthusiastic and determined to pursue my course in supply chain management and logistics while getting a global degree that will empower me to work in the global market with giant manufacturing nations such as Japan, China, and Korea. I dream of someday replicating the same model in my home country as well.

My aspirations to pursue a degree at your university were due to the excellent course curriculum that aligns with industry standards, cutting-edge technologies, and expertise of the faculty members. The modules on Logistics and Financial Management, Logistics and Human Resource Management, Business Strategy and Marketing Logistics, and Inventory/Production Planning, Procurement, and Transport appealed to me as they would help me know the very intricacies of the domain in detail. Besides that, the university’s industrial partnerships with some of the top-tier countries would help me receive the necessary practical exposure. A look at the university website got me hooked on the works of Profs (names of a few faculty members), and I am quite excited to learn from them.

I am fully prepared to commence my journey of education in this field. Admission to your esteemed university will give me the best chance to boost my skills and knowledge while simultaneously gaining global insights. I am hopeful that my academic and professional credentials are sufficient to secure me a seat in the (name of the program) with the session beginning in (month).

Supply Chain Graduate CV format and structure

The format and structure of your CV is important because it will determine how easy it is for recruiters and employers to read your CV.

If they can find the information they need quickly, they’ll be happy; but if they struggle, your application could be overlooked.

A simple and logical structure will always create a better reading experience than a complex structure, and with a few simple formatting tricks, you’ll be good to go.

How to write a CV

Tips for formatting your Supply Chain Graduate CV

  • Length: Your CV should always be limited to two sides of A4, regardless of whether you have a year or three decades of experience. With recruiters juggling multiple responsibilities, they don’t have time to sift through lengthy applications.
  • Readability : To help busy recruiters scan through your CV, make sure your section headings stand out – bold or coloured text works well. Additionally, try to use bullet points wherever you can, as they’re far easier to skim through than huge paragraphs. Lastly, don’t be afraid of white space on your CV – a little breathing space is great for readability.
  • Design & format: Your CV needs to look professional, sleek and easy to read. A subtle colour palette, clear font and simple design are generally best for this, as fancy designs are often harder to navigate.
  • Photos: Don’t add profile photos to your CV unless you work in an industry or region which prefers to see them. Most employers in the UK will not need to see one.

Quick tip: Creating a professional CV style can be difficult and time-consuming when using Microsoft Word or Google Docs. To create a winning CV quickly, try our quick-and-easy CV Builder and use one of their eye-catching professional CV templates.

CV formatting tips

CV structure

When writing your own CV , break up your CV content into the following key sections:

  • Name and contact details – Place them at the top of your CV, so that employers can easily get in touch.
  • CV profile – A punchy sales pitch of your key experience, skills and achievements to reel readers in.
  • Core skills section – A bullet-pointed snapshot of your abilities.
  • Work experience – A well-structured list of your relevant work experience.
  • Education – An overview of any relevant qualifications or professional training you have.
  • Hobbies and interests – A short description of any relevant hobbies or interests (optional).

Now you understand the basic layout of a CV, here’s what you should include in each section of yours.

Contact Details

Contact details

Tuck your contact details into the corner of your CV, so that they don’t take up too much space. Stick to the basic details, such as:

  • Mobile number
  • Email address – It should sound professional, such as your full name.
  • Location -Just write your rough location, rather than your full address.
  • LinkedIn profile or portfolio URL – If you include these, ensure they’re sleek, professional and up-to-date.

Supply Chain Graduate CV Profile

Make a strong first impression with recruiters by starting your CV with an impactful profile (or personal statement for junior applicants).

This short introduction paragraph should summarise your skills, experience, and knowledge, highlighting your suitability for the job.

It should be compelling enough to encourage recruiters to read through the rest of your CV.

CV profile

How to write a good CV profile:

  • Make it short and sharp: Aim for a short, snappy paragraph of 3-5 lines. This is just enough room to showcase why you’d make the perfect hire, without going into excessive detail and overwhelming busy recruiters.
  • Tailor it: Before writing your CV, make sure to do some research. Figure out exactly what your desired employers are looking for and make sure that you are making those requirements prominent in your CV profile, and throughout.
  • Don’t add an objective: Leave your career objectives or goals out of your profile. You only have limited space to work with, so they’re best suited to your cover letter .
  • Avoid generic phrases: Focus on fact, not fluff. Phrases like “Committed and enthusiastic thought-leader” and “Dynamic problem solver” might sound fancy, but they’ll do nothing for your application. Not only do they sound cheesy, but they have no substance – stick to real skills and facts

Work experience

Give them a more thorough insight into what you can do by creating a detailed list of your relevant experience.

Start with your current role, and work backwards through all the relevant positions you’ve held. This could be freelance, contract or voluntary work too; as long as it’s related to the role you’re applying for.

Work experience

Structuring each job

Your work experience section will be long, so it’s important to structure it in a way which helps recruiters to quickly and easily find the information they need.

Use the 3-step structure, shown in the below example, below to achieve this.

Role descriptions

Begin with a summary of your role, detailing what the purpose of your job was, who you reported to and what size of team you were part of (or led).

Key responsibilities

Follow with a snappy list of bullet points, detailing your daily duties and responsibilities.

Tailor it to the role you’re applying for by mentioning how you put the target employer’s desired hard skills and knowledge to use in this role.

Key achievements

Lastly, add impact by highlight 1-3 key achievements  that you made within the role.

Struggling to think of an achievement? If it had a positive impact on your company, it counts.

For example, you might increased company profits, improved processes, or something simpler, such as going above and beyond to solve a customer’s problem.

Sample job description for Supply Chain Graduate CV

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, and finance divisions to align supply chain roadmaps with organisational goals.
  • Monitor inventory levels to ensure optimal stock and evaluate historical data, market trends, and customer demands to improve accuracy in predicting future product requirements.
  • Work with the procurement team to source components needed for production.
  • Demonstrate commitment towards projects aimed at implementing technologies which refine manufacturing, automate operations, and give BG a competitive edge.

Quick tip: Create impressive job descriptions easily in our quick-and-easy CV Builder by adding pre-written job phrases for every industry and career stage.

Education section

After your work experience, your education section should provide a detailed view of your academic background.

Begin with those most relevant to Supply Chain Graduate jobs, such as vocational training or degrees. If you have space, you can also mention your academic qualifications, such as A-Levels and GCSEs.

Focus on the qualifications that are most relevant to the jobs you are applying for.

Hobbies and interests

Although this is an optional section, it can be useful if your hobbies and interests will add further depth to your CV.

Interests which are related to the sector you are applying to, or which show transferable skills like leadership or teamwork, can worth listing.

On the other hand, generic hobbies like “going out with friends” won’t add any value to your application, so are best left off your CV.

Creating a strong Supply Chain Graduate CV requires a blend of punchy content, considered structure and format, and heavy tailoring.

By creating a punchy profile and core skills list, you’ll be able to hook recruiter’s attention and ensure your CV gets read.

Remember that research and relevance is the key to a good CV, so research your target roles before you start writing and pack your CV with relevant skills.

Best of luck with your next application!

Masters supply chain management, africa.

sample of personal statement for masters in supply chain management

I am seeking admission to your distinguished program because I see it as the optimal platform from which I will be able to launch a highly successful career in SCM with a focus on Africa. I am particularly interested in working to close loopholes of procurement fraud and conflict of interest issues that pervade most industries. I hope to encourage companies to focus on cost and effective leadership strategies through the cultivation of value chains. After completing your program, I intend to seek a position with a multi-national company based in Tanzania, probably in the oil-gas-energy sector as an Operations and Supply Chain Manager.

Now 32 and recently awarded my US citizenship, I came to the USA 9 years ago at the age of 21. I have studied several instances of how SCM theory was effectively implemented in Africa resulting in much more efficient operations. I have also watched many failures unfold; the unsustainability of Nigeria’s oil industry concerns me; despite being the production leader on the continent, Nigeria also provides us with a wealth of examples of the wrong way to do things.

I am both a pragmatist and an environmentalist and I look forward to serving for many decades to come as part of management teams that fully appreciate the cost of episodes like British Petroleum’s failure in the Gulf, doing everything that they can to avoid them in the future. I want to work hard to go that extra mile to pump as much oil out of Tanzania as we can, at the same time that we do everything possible to protect our environment; I also want to eventually turn my efforts to working towards clean energy. We hope to enjoy windfall production at some point in the future and to invest this in our country, our people, education, health, and industry.

I went to an International Boarding School which followed the Cambridge system back home in Tanzania. I sat for GCE exams for both my Senior level as well as A' levels. I have been lucky to have visited 13 European countries: Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy,

Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK. I am going be in Turkey (Istanbul) next Saturday for a week, then am heading to Tanzania. I love to travel and I hope to get to know South America after completing your program. I very much admire European education systems and many of my friends tell me that I have a UK accent. My parents are currently in Tanzania but I have siblings in the UK, Denmark, Netherlands, Canada, the USA and India. My parents continue to work very hard to provide the best education for us that they can.  I have also taken time for volunteer work here in the USA with the International Service Center (ISC), serving as a translator for Swahili speaking refugees immigrating to the USA.

After finishing my undergraduate studies last year in the area of Finance, I began working at my present place of employment, XXXX Inc., in the Sales Integration Dept/Logistics. I believe that many of the skills that I have been developing here at Nordstrom will help to prepare me to excel in your program. I thank you for consideration of my application.
