“The clothes we wear has become more than merely a way to cover our nakedness; instead it has also become one of the primary ways in which people express themselves.”

George K explains that fashion separates individuals from the rest. A person can introduce himself to others for who and what he is through style choices. Further, the author expounds on how fashion is a very competitive industry that depends on one’s search for identity. The author also points out that every person is unique and thus needs a distinct style to fit them. However, because of constant peer pressure and criticism, an individual’s fashion picks can’t be entirely their own. Ultimately, George K reminds the reader that it’s not just the clothes but how individuals wear and feel in them.

“…if we can do something then it is choosing the right stuff like entertainment, adventure, fashion, etc. All these things can make us happy and are also an important part of life. Fashion always attracts and it is available for all,”

Yadav considers how fashion originated from people’s traditions and cultures and became what it is today through individuals adopting each style and making it their own. In the following sections of the essay, she defines fashion and lists its importance, including how it developed new employment options and how styles speak for the wearer.

In her conclusion, she encourages everyone to choose their styles and not to mind their age. Fashion helps everyone live life to the fullest.

“Fashion is an industry based on creating a need where there is none and nowadays, due to the current recession, I can understand that fashion may not be people’s biggest concern. But we cannot qualify it as ‘trivial’ since we are surrounded by it; each new generation of customers is highly exposed to commercial influences.”

Summers gives her opinion about the book “Fashion as Communication” by Malcolm Barnard . She identifies points in the work and shares her thoughts on them. The first point being those working in the fashion industry aren’t smart. As a Fashion Marketing student, Summers vehemently disagrees with this statement and recounts her experiences to counter it. She continues to analyze Barnard’s other arguments and agrees with some of them. Summers ends her essay by highlighting that fashion is too essential in modern culture and economic organization for it to be considered “trivial.”

“…the youth cares more about what they wear and how they look which could affect their status in their peer group and meddle with their mental health. Following trends and doing what everyone is doing like a sheep is never a good idea. Fashion is there to reflect your personal style, not copying what other people think is trendy.”

User Edudwar reminds people that fashion is not simply following what’s currently trendy. Fashion is there to give people the chance to show off their individualism and personalities and not present a fake version of themselves to be accepted by society. Additionally, he mentions that youth nowadays are more sensitive to what people think of them, so some will always do everything to follow trends, even if they’re not presentable or appropriate.

“Youths of the present times have indulged themselves in so much fashion that they do not receive sufficient time for other work… The time spent on studies is being used in watching TV programmes, reading fashion articles, or even finding the recent trendy outfits on the Internet.”

The essay discusses the real effects of fashion on today’s youth. The author focuses on kids zeroing in on finding the latest style instead of caring for their studies that directly affect their future. The essay also delves into how youths of yesterday had ambitions and goals in life compared to today’s youths, who prefer to have fun rather than study hard.

Introduction

Fashion is a non-verbal way of communication that conveys a lot about the person’s personality, background and style. Earlier it was exclusively the world of the affluent, celebrities and royalty. However, fashion is now within the reach of the common man, especially the youth. Besides, dress fashion is an evolution of ideas, which begins as a fad, but in course of time gets accepted in society as a style, which could be in attire, behaviour or lifestyle. Fashion is mostly associated with glamour. It makes people feel confident and bold. People can express themselves openly. Today fashion is not limited to western countries; now, every country has come out with their fashion sense, not only the clothing but the accent of that country, the living style.

Vedantu experts have crafted an essay on fashion that covers its significance and how it reflects in your personality. This essay has promoted the thought perfectly that fashion is also about carrying yourself in society without having an attractive or trendy attire.  It is about being comfortable with yourself and not being a doppelganger of another person.

Why is Fashion Important?

Fashion is important because it reflects the culture of a country. It makes our life colourful and changes our life with time. In a way it also adds variety to life, providing an opportunity in trying out something new. Fashion is not only limited to clothing or makeup but in a much broader sense includes accessories like shoes, perfume, hairstyle, mannerism, etiquette and attitude towards life. Fashion is not restricted to self-expression only but also a means of self-empowerment and confidence. It encompasses the total spectrum of human activity, which relates to a specific period. It is an outlook of life.

Fashion is how you carry yourself in society without wearing anything trendy. It is how you attempt to make yourself look flawless even without any make-up. It helps you in revealing your true identity.

Evolution of Fashion

The world of fashion is always evolving.  It is amazing to see how the different events in history have influenced and changed the way people dressed and looked throughout time. Thus long dresses, veiled headgear that was trends of the Victorian era, have been replaced with micro and mini dresses and the jeans culture associated with the modern era.

From the 1920s to the 1990s fashion just not changed in clothing but also in accessories, footwear and hairstyles. The trends of wearing hats, carrying purses, shoes and men wearing long ties and bows have been continuously changing with periods, occasions and culture.

Hairstyles also have been changing throughout time. Short boyish haircuts were popular during the 1920s to 1940s. Wigs were more popular in the 1960s and thereafter hairstyles kept changing from short to bob cut then to mid-back cut and now maintaining long hair.

Fashion Industry

As fashion evolved, the industry was formulated to manage the process for the consumers. The fashion world has given shape to a new industry, the ‘Fashion Industry’.

The fashion industry was created to design, manufacture and market clothes, footwear and accessories. Before creating the apparel industry, people made clothes for themselves. The mass production of clothing began in the mid-nineties when some creators began to make garments that did not require any fitting session with the tailors. The fashion industry in its true sense was established in the twentieth century when the neighbourhood tailors decided to become the manufacturing business.

Fashion impacting the Youth

The positive side of fashion is it enhances your life. It not only allows you to dress fashionably but also allows being independent in thinking and maintaining self-esteem. At the same time, fashion is negatively impacting the youth. It has taken up the life of the youth so much that the youngsters are highly obsessed with creating style statements at an age where they need to focus on their studies and other important aspects of life. The fashion trend has become a cult with today’s generation. They blindly try to imitate the models and celebrities without understanding the true essence of fashion.

What is the importance of fashion?

In conclusion, fashion is more than just attire; it’s a reflection of our culture, an economic force, a personal identifier, and a global conversation. As we navigate the complex world of fashion, it’s essential to strike a balance between personal expression, industry responsibility, and environmental sustainability.

Essay on Fashion

500+ words essay on fashion.

Fashion is one of the most talked-about industries in today’s world. Fashion can be defined as anything that becomes admirable among the masses. It is a popular aesthetic expression. Fashion is related to clothing, hairstyle, makeup, accessories, footwear and lifestyle. People want to distinguish their personalities from others with their style quotient. Like every new year, fashion also comes and goes. The latest fashion will be more fashionable and colourful than last year.

New trends in fashion influence people of all ages. There is a tremendous amount of competition between the industry and consumers. Different cultures and nationalities have different styles of fashion. Due to this reason, it is always fascinating to travel to various parts of the world to observe how people dress in those countries. Now, clothes have become one of the main reasons to express themselves instead of merely covering their body.

Different people need different styles and designs for their uniqueness and personality before wearing that specific fashion design. This essay will talk more about fashion history, importance and trends.

History of Fashion

Fashion is all about the history of people. For thousands of years, people have loved fashionable clothing. Clothes, from the early days of Egypt, have become our expression. We can see fashion worn in various civilisations throughout history, documents, drawings, and other archaeological findings. Eastern neighbours influenced clothes of different styles worn by the Greeks. Both males and females used to wear thick woollen long dresses.

During ancient times, Egyptians used to wear light cotton clothing, and Egyptian women wore long, ready-made clothes. Later on, the Romans dominated the most significant example of fashion and style.

When people started migrating to Europe, accordingly, the style changed. To keep themselves warm, women used to wear warm clothes and men plain and armour clothes.

Since there were not enough raw materials to produce new clothes for people who migrated to America in that era, dresses were ordered and sent to the oceans by ships to cope with the demand. Suits with leggings were men’s attire, and women wore long clothes and hats on their heads. Over time, the form of the dresses transferred from voluminous dresses into soft, frequent, high-waisted skirts.

Women’s skirts were shorter and thinner at the beginning of the century. Trousers of men slowly went from ankle to knee-length. During the World Wars, women’s style transformed into shorter skirts below the knee.

The ‘80s brought significant trends related to fashion and hairstyles for both genders. The transitional fashion period is from the sixties and seventies. During this time, women wearing trousers became acceptable.

From the 20th century to the 21st century, fashion change continued, and still today, it is evolving.

Fashion Trend

When we talk about influencing fashion, political influencers play a vital role. There are a lot of instances where politicians become fashion symbols, like Princess Diana and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy. Political revolutions also left a significant impact on fashion trends.

Technology is another significant factor that influences fashion. The fashion industry saw rapid growth in technology such as 3D printing technology, wearable technology, etc. The Internet also affects fashion trends.

People are influenced by their favourite stars, influencers, etc. The strongest influencers in the field of fashion are social media influencers. Young stars try to emulate the fashion styles of their loved celebrities. For example, hoodies came into fashion due to rap musicians. Television and movie stars also influence fashion trends.

It’s entirely up to you to be fashionable; it shouldn’t be forceful, and it is your own decision what you want to follow. Our fashion sense also reflects our culture. It makes our life colourful and adds variety to life, providing an opportunity to try out something new. Though this time of the 21st century in India, most people are influenced by the style of fashion, they have not forgotten our traditions and culture, which are the priority and symbol of our country.

Essay: Why Fashion is Important

The Fashionisto

Published October 18, 2017

Louis Vuitton 2016 Spring Summer Backstage

Fashion is one of the most critical industries in our world today. Style has become one of the primary ways in which people express their personality and distinguish themselves from those around them. With every New Year which comes and goes, new fashions arrive on the scene, and they all endeavor to be more colorful and fashionable than those which saw last year. There’s inspiration everywhere, from online retailers like Roden Gray to printed magazines. The desire to express one was present throughout human history.

People of all ages are addicted to new trends in fashion. There is a tremendous amount of competition within the industry and also among consumers. The style is also different among different cultures and nationalities, which is why it’s so exciting when one travels to various parts of the planet to observe firsthand how people dress in those countries. Our clothes have become more than merely a way to cover our nakedness. Instead, it has also become one of the primary ways in which people express themselves.

Garments which may fit one person may not necessarily be equally suitable for someone else. And even if those clothes are fantastic designer efforts, it does not mean everyone would be equally comfortable wearing them. Different people will need different styles and designs, which will be an expression of their uniqueness and personality before they will not be comfortable wearing that specific fashion design. Human beings are complicated creatures; everyone has different desires, dreams, and objectives that they deem essential to success in their life. Fashion trends are a critical aspect of that success.

There is a lot of discrimination among human beings and also a lot of criticism. People will do everything possible to avoid such criticism. Peer pressure continues to affect people throughout their lives, and it is a powerful motivator when it comes to crucial fashion decisions. It is also true that fashion design has reached a very sophisticated level, and therefore some of the most popular models can be very costly.

It has the result that such fashion may only be accessible to affluent people. It can make it very difficult for people of average income to compete in fashion designs. Fortunately, there has been a lot of progress by fashion designers to cater to middle-income consumers. It is why there are a lot of fashion designs available, which can make it possible for less fortunate people to own still fashion designs that will be of very high quality and attractive.

There are fashion items for every season and every occasion, making it possible for people to express themselves differently depending on the specific season or time of the year. Looking at all the consumer needs that have emerged in modern times, it becomes easy to see why fashion design has become such a specialized industry.

Another aspect that deserves contemplation is the fact that there is a measure of similarity in those fashion trends which aim at the low-income person. It is going a long way in avoiding discrimination or unnecessary competition because there is a lot of similarity in the designs which aim at this consumer market. Therefore, less affluent people can avoid unwarranted discrimination and criticism because, they are dressed very similarly in many ways to their friends, colleagues, or family members.

Care should be taken to avoid fashion designs of poor quality, especially in cases where failed fashion experiments are nevertheless mass-produced and then dumped on the low-income consumer. On the other hand, some poor people cannot afford anything better, leaving her with no choice but to purchase low-quality products.

Nevertheless, an eye for detail can be a blessing because this can help a person who may only have access to low-quality fashion items to mix and match those things very efficiently so that the overall result is nonetheless beautiful. There is some truth to the statement that it’s not what you wear but how you wear it, which is the most critical issue.

Unfortunately, many people never seem to learn how to combine different fashion items correctly and adequately. Knowing which colors go together is a rare gift that some people never master. Therefore, even affluent people with access to very costly fashion items often fail to do those things justice because of a lack of understanding regarding color matching.

Many people seem to think tight clothing is more attractive than a loose-fitting dress, and then they make fools of themselves by wearing unnecessarily close-fitting clothes. It is why it is essential to have at least a basic understanding of choosing your fashion items and mixing and matching those things for the best results. Access to the most expensive fashion trends on the market is undoubtedly a benefit. Still, it’s even more important to have a basic sense of how to maximize how the wearer will display those clothes and other articles.

Clothes are also known to impact people’s moods substantially; likewise, some colors are more effective than others in putting people in a better place as far as their mindset and emotions are concerned. Every person should do at least an introductory modeling course to understand how to make the best of their free clothes and accessories. Like we said earlier, it is not so much what you are wearing but rather how you are wearing it, which will ultimately provide proof of your competence as far as fashion and personal appearance is concerned.

The fashion originated in 1826. There was a dress that was made popular in 1894 by a designer called John Singer Sargent. It was a very beautiful black dress created by him. He created an unusual shape, which became very ordinary in the 19th century. In 1910, an amazing designer called Paul soiree in France got an idea of a loose dress looking like a lampshade. In 1914, due to the World War, many women were asked by the government to participate in voting. Women cut their hair short and put on loose clothes, so fashion changed immediately during the outbreak of the war.

The first fashion designer in the world is Charles Frederick Worth. He initiated the culture of fashion houses, and several designs were made according to the needs of the customers. In the 1920’s, dresses were quite modest and of very slimming shapes. Pearls were worn in the form of necklaces in the 1920’s. In the final decade of the 20th century, i.e., in the 1990’s, a lot of young designers came, and this particular design house made a huge impact since the early 1990’s. At the beginning of the 21st century, fashion became more advanced, and creativity increased. Paris became the fashion capital creating new designs of the clothes and spreading throughout the world. Now being presentable is synonymous with following the latest trends in appropriate situations. Some events have certain dress codes that people follow to be a part of that particular group and there are also some socially acceptable fashion formulas that one should follow. Especially the youth cares more about what they wear and how they look which could affect their status in their peer group and meddle with their mental health. 500-word Essay on Fashion

Fashion has been around for as long as we could imagine and has now become an integral part of our day-to-day lives. And in today’s world where a person is judged on their outward appearance, fashion has become more important. It has been around since man became aware of different kinds of fabrics and styles.

Fashion has traveled a long journey, from ancient times till now. We have seen tremendous changes in the trends and styles during his period. Clothing, footwear, and accessories all come under the umbrella of fashion but clothing always seems to take the lead. Several factors play a vital role in what is considered fashionable these days. Celebrities and personalities with major influence have always majorly shifted the trends in fashion. Because a lot of people that follow them, also follow their pieces of fashion advice.

Fashion in India is vast, to say the least. The land of diversity has a multitude of different outfits and fashion statements. Our country is rich with culture and a heritage that has influenced fashion for centuries. Although most of the world tends to follow western trends, traditional outfits still have their roots strong. A fusion between western and traditional fashion has also been a trend in the past and doesn’t seem to die down anytime soon. Fashion is a form of art that expresses its beautiful self in different ways.

Fashion expresses the choices and style of a person. It also represents the cultural heritage and its significance. People love dressing according to the occasion. For example, a professional environment calls for formals, while casual wear is considered daily wear, and special occasions like birthdays call for party wear. Dressing according to occasion helps in fitting in one’s social group. It is now common sense to dress appropriately because one cannot show up to a wedding in a casual outfit. It does not put you in a good light and may be frowned upon. Nowadays having a dressing sense has become an integral part of our lives.

The evolution of fashion throughout the world has been remarkable. It’s amazing to see how people dressed during certain times and history, and even today. From fluffy gowns and corsets to skinny jeans and bodycon dresses, it has been a hell of a ride. Women’s fashion is quite vast as compared to men’s fashion. Mostly, women have been the target audience of clothing and cosmetic brands. They always have a wide range of clothes and accessories to select from. Fashion has also become pretty popular among school and college students. They are very keen on following new fashion trends and owning the best outfit and accessory collection.

Wanting to look good isn’t a bad thing but you should not become completely obsessed with it. At the end of the day, people should wear what they feel comfortable in. Wearing fashionable clothes just for the sake of it will not do good for anyone. Fashion should never be the outcome of peer pressure, but a representation of one’s unique style.

How Fast Fashion Manipulates People

Analysis of "the true cost" documentary: the consequences of fast fashion, fast fashion and its influence on the industry in the 21st century.

Fast fashion is a term used to describe the contemporary model of clothing production and consumption characterized by the rapid production of inexpensive, trendy garments that are quickly replicated and made available to consumers. It refers to the accelerated speed at which fashion trends are introduced and adopted by the market, resulting in a constant cycle of new styles and collections.

This phenomenon is fueled by the desire for affordable, up-to-date clothing, with brands often prioritizing low costs and quick turnover over quality and sustainability. Fast fashion companies often rely on outsourced labor and global supply chains to produce garments at a rapid pace, leading to concerns regarding working conditions and environmental impact. The term "fast fashion" encapsulates the mass production, consumption, and disposal of clothing, emphasizing the disposable nature of these garments. It represents a shift in the fashion industry, where trends are short-lived and clothing is viewed as a disposable commodity rather than an investment.

Fast fashion originated in the 1990s as a response to the increasing demand for affordable and trendy clothing. The concept emerged from a combination of factors, including advancements in technology, globalization, and changes in consumer behavior. One of the key developments was the advent of fast and efficient production techniques, such as outsourcing manufacturing to low-wage countries, where garments could be produced quickly and inexpensively. This allowed fashion brands to produce large quantities of clothing at a rapid pace, ensuring a constant flow of new styles and collections to the market. Globalization also played a significant role in the rise of fast fashion. It enabled companies to establish global supply chains, sourcing materials and labor from different parts of the world to cut costs and maximize profits. Additionally, advancements in transportation and communication facilitated the speedy movement of goods across borders, making it easier for fashion brands to respond quickly to changing consumer trends. Changes in consumer behavior, such as a desire for instant gratification and the influence of social media, further fueled the demand for fast fashion. Consumers wanted to keep up with the latest fashion trends without breaking the bank, leading to the rise of affordable, disposable clothing options. Over time, fast fashion has grown into a global industry, dominating the retail landscape and facing criticism for its negative social and environmental impacts.

Zara, H&M, Shein, C&A, Peacocks, ASOS, Forever 21, Uniqlo, Primark

Fast fashion has had a significant presence and impact in the United States. With its promise of affordable and on-trend clothing, fast fashion has gained popularity among consumers, leading to an increase in its prevalence across the country. One notable characteristic of fast fashion in the US is the abundance of fast fashion retailers. Numerous well-known brands have established a strong presence, offering a wide range of inexpensive clothing options to cater to the demand for affordable fashion. However, the fast fashion industry in the US is not without its concerns. Environmental sustainability is a pressing issue, as the fast fashion model relies on rapid production cycles and low-cost materials, which contribute to resource depletion, pollution, and waste generation. Additionally, the labor practices associated with fast fashion, such as outsourcing production to countries with lower labor standards, raise ethical concerns regarding worker rights and fair wages. Efforts to address the impact of fast fashion in the US are underway. Sustainable fashion initiatives, including eco-friendly materials, ethical production practices, and consumer awareness campaigns, aim to promote more responsible and conscious fashion consumption.

Public opinion on fast fashion is multifaceted and influenced by various factors. While some individuals appreciate the affordability and accessibility of fast fashion, others express concerns about its negative consequences. One common sentiment is the growing awareness of the environmental impact of fast fashion. People are becoming more conscious of the excessive waste, pollution, and resource depletion associated with the industry. This has led to an increased demand for sustainable and ethical alternatives. Moreover, there is a growing recognition of the social implications of fast fashion. Concerns about exploitative labor practices, unsafe working conditions, and low wages in garment factories have sparked public outrage. Consumers are increasingly demanding transparency and accountability from brands regarding their supply chain practices. However, despite these concerns, fast fashion continues to enjoy popularity due to its affordability and trend-driven nature. Some individuals may prioritize price and convenience over the ethical and environmental implications.

1. Affordability 2. Trendy Styles 3. Variety and Choice 4. Economic Impact

1. Environmental Impact 2. Exploitative Labor Practices 3. Disposable Culture 4. Lack of Transparency

Fast fashion has gained significant attention in the media, with various outlets exploring its impact on the environment, labor practices, and consumer behavior. Documentaries like "The True Cost" (2015) directed by Andrew Morgan shed light on the social and environmental consequences of fast fashion. It exposes the exploitative labor conditions in garment factories and the ecological damage caused by the industry. Media articles and news segments often discuss the unethical practices of fast fashion brands and the need for more sustainable alternatives. For instance, The Guardian published an article in 2021 titled "The Environmental Impact of Fast Fashion" that highlights the environmental toll of the industry and advocates for responsible fashion choices. Social media platforms also play a significant role in raising awareness about fast fashion. Influencers and activists use their platforms to educate their followers about the negative effects of fast fashion and promote sustainable alternatives. The #whomademyclothes and #slowfashion hashtags have gained popularity as consumers demand transparency and ethical practices from fashion brands.

1. According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the fast fashion industry is responsible for around 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions, which is more than the emissions from international flights and maritime shipping combined. 2. The Ellen MacArthur Foundation estimates that the equivalent of one garbage truck full of textiles is landfilled or burned every second. This amounts to approximately 92 million tons of textile waste generated each year, with the majority coming from fast fashion production and consumption. 3. The fashion industry is the second-largest consumer of water worldwide, with estimates suggesting that it takes around 2,700 liters of water to produce a single cotton t-shirt.

Fast fashion is an important topic to explore in an essay due to its significant implications for the environment, society, and economy. The fashion industry's rapid production and consumption cycles have led to a range of detrimental effects that deserve attention and analysis. Firstly, the environmental impact of fast fashion is alarming, with high carbon emissions, water pollution, and massive textile waste. Understanding and addressing these issues are crucial for promoting sustainability and combating climate change. Secondly, fast fashion has social implications, as it often relies on exploitative labor practices in developing countries, leading to poor working conditions and low wages. Examining these ethical concerns helps raise awareness and promote fair labor practices. Lastly, the economic aspect of fast fashion cannot be ignored. The industry's emphasis on low-cost, disposable garments contributes to the devaluation of clothing and the exploitation of resources. Exploring alternatives and promoting a shift towards sustainable fashion practices can foster a more equitable and responsible economy.

Fashion Design and Famous Designers Essay

Fashion design is an expression of a particular character’s art and uniqueness. It is mainly based on original work, while others are borrowed and improved. It is how individuals show their creativity and talent through their productions. The designers have grown to influence the world with their products globally. They are known internationally for their products supplied globally due to their efficient expression of art in original work. This project is about fashion design because it focuses on the most exciting journeys of widely known designers and their influence in the industry. Considering the stories of the most famous individuals, the upcoming designers are inspired to keep growing. They start looking up to these influencers and admiring their brands, which are the most significant influence in society.

Martin Margiela

Martin Margiela is referred to as the silent designer whose clothes tell his story. This is because since he started his career in 1988, he had never appeared before the press or conducted an interview. This brought up the character narrative of Martin Margiela as one who would not take a bow for his achievements but let his art express him. Martin Margiela challenged all that was deemed traditional couture when he first began working in early 1980. Margiela’s designs were motivated by his mother’s reconstruction of furniture, frequently revealing the layout of the garments and intentionally exposing the linings and seams. One of the most prominent looks that Martin Margiela pulled on the runway was during their first show for his eponymous label in the fall of 1989. Against all other expectations, his collections included ripped sleeves, frayed hems, and clumpy shoes in uneven runaway and stumbling models.

Demna Gvasalia

Demna Gvasalia is a Georgian fashion designer who innovates a streetwear-savvy brand that has dominated the fashion industry. He has been the creative director of Balenciaga collections since 2015. His general approach to the design philosophy is to recreate something which dismantles the boundary between vernacular, street, and luxury wear. Some of his creations are crocs, satirical prom suits, leather Ikea bags, baggy tracksuits, subversive tailored denim, and others that made the headlines on the platforms. He dresses most celebrities, such as Kanye West and the Kardashians, which is the best platform to express his art. One of the most prominent looks that Gvasalia sent to the runway was a chic, floor-sweeping, cap-sleeved gown overlaid with an understated veil, which was contrary to what a bride would look. He is portrayed as one who fearlessly expresses his art and talent without fear of public opinion or online critics.

John Galliano

John Galliano was the founder and the creative director of his eponymous label John Galliano and French fashion houses Givenchy and Dior, respectively. His design philosophy is romantic historicism with technical skills and progressive aesthetics. He represented the garments that people wore on romantic occasions. Galliano’s designs became known for their twisted romanticism. His work was intricate, feminine, and undeniably beautiful – but also sinister, slightly frightening, and lavish to the point of showy. Galliano has always seen the runway as a storytelling medium. The designer told the story of an escaped Russian princess on a journey of self-discovery in his spring/summer 1994 collection. The fashion elite praised Galliano’s “Princess Lucretia” show for its crinolines, capes, and impossible-flowing locks. However, the most outstanding character of John Galliano came up when he was fired from Dior due to the racist utterances that he made. Regardless of the controversies, he is one of the most fabulous designers.

Virgil Abloh

Virgil Abloh has worked with different brands as a fashion designer, such as Off-white and Louis Vuitton. He was the first African American to be the artistic director of a French Luxury Fashion House when he joined Louis Vuitton in 2018. His most extensive design philosophy is based on compromising between two different options. He brought streetwear into the world’s high fashion when working with Off-white. He has proven to be a team player from his many successful collaborations. The main was his collaboration with Kanye West, which was brought about by the success of Off-white. He uses that to inspire the success of black children in the fashion world. Some of his most significant creations are Nike x Off-White™ “The Ten” Jordan 1, which was made in collaboration with Nike. The most iconic runway moment was Louis Viton’s first outing, as he demonstrated menswear for the following male celebrities.

Yohji Yamamoto

Yohji Yamamoto is a master tailor known for his avant-garde tailoring featuring Japanese design aesthetics. He has worked as a fashion designer with brands such as Adidas and Hermes. His signature aesthetic, which distinguishes his collections, is that all his collections are black. He put a new spin on tailoring and stood out among the cinched waists, shoulder pads, and bold block colors that ruled the 1980s fashion scene. His design philosophy states that he does not look for perfection because perfection is ugly. However, black is modest, and it also brings the imperfections, such as arrogance, which is what he likes to show. His narrative explains the display’s unisexual oversized apparel, which means that any gender can express fashion. The Yohji Yamamoto spring/summer show is one of the hugest demonstrations of his collections, which shows different designs of all-black apparel with other models who strive to bring back to the 1990s.

Alexander McQueen

He is the founder of a luxurious British fashion house known as Alexander McQueen. His label does not only include clothes but also shoes, perfume, and fashion accessories. McQueen is widely known for his well-tailored clothes and other controversial designs. He took classic pieces and redesigned their form to look chic and unique. His design philosophy was to make a piece that could go beyond any trend and still be relevant in a hundred years. His character narrative is about the blend of the past and the present as he tries to make his collections more relevant. The skull scarf and armadillo shoes are two of his most well-known creations. The LACMA Museum is currently displaying “Mind, Mythos, Muse,” a collection of imaginative clothing. McQueen’s most controversial runway show was the fall/winter of 1997, which was the theme of the jungle. The animalistic designs included tiger stripes, cowhide material, and horned headpieces.

Jean Paul Gaultier

Jean-Paul Gaultier was a seven-year fashion director at Hermes. He did not only sell clothes but also his fragrance and colognes. His designs are primarily costumes, which are simple and ambient. His design philosophy is for the ateliers to work hard to present the designer’s collections to the world. He believed that having different is beautiful in that representing something opposite to society’s expectations is a significant step that any designer would be willing to take. Even though the new generation has taken them over, his most outstanding designs on the runway are the naked dresses with techno dots. They have been ranked the highest viewed for the designer. He reinvented Haute Couture by using exceptional French savoir-faire to satisfy his obsession with combining different genres, cultures, and materials. His character narrative states that it is the job of the models to bring the designer’s work to the field to help them push forward.

Thierry Mugler

Thierry Mugler is a French fashion designer, creative director, and creative adviser of Mugler Fashion house. He is one of the few people who rose to dominance due to the promotion of haute culture. He was often met with racism, ageism, and critics for incorporating non-traditional models such as drag queens and transgender women. His design philosophy was to make women look beautiful and efficient with essential glamour. He is strong-willed and willing to give any woman a chance to showcase his collections with the basics of making them look gorgeous. Mugler has hosted fashion shows with over 300 exhibitions on display. When attending the Met Gala, he dressed many celebrities, such as Kim Kardashian, which was a significant step in showing his work. Pat Cleveland’s descent from the skies as a sparkling Madonna descended from the skies, pregnant and surrounded by cherubs with golden wings, was the most iconic moment.

Karl Lagerfeld

Karl Lagerfeld was a German designer who was represented by his signature white hair, black sunglasses, and shirts with high-detachable collars. He was known as the creative director of the French fashion house Chanel and the Italian fur and leather goods fashion house Fendi. Karl Lagerfeld has a very different design philosophy, believing that ‘less is more and emphasizing objectivity, simplicity, and elegance. He emphasizes the cut and proportion of the garment and occasionally adds details. He was known to be a person who would turn anything into gold, especially after revamping Coco Chanel and making ready-to-wear garments and a huge success. His Fall 1977 collection, one of the most celebrated of the 1970s Soft Look era, featured lace trim, headwear, and thigh-high boots in 1700s styles. His Fall 1979 collection was one of the most influential of the early years of the big-shoulder era, featured millinery reminiscent of Napoleonic bicornes. It also included button-sided spats/leggings that looked somewhat like military accouterments from the same period.

Alessandro Michele

Alessandro Michele is an Italian fashion designer who, in 2015, was appointed the creative director of Gucci. He is responsible for Gucci’s brand image and collections. His design philosophy is that fashion is more than just clothes. It is like a whole universe by itself, where everything is connected to it. This tells that he showcases style not as a dependent component of human lifestyle but as the entire independent world that humans depend on. Michele created replicas of selected models’ heads to carry down the runway as accessories for the Fall/Winter 2018 season. While other models walked down the catwalk holding baby dragons in their arms, the catwalk was transformed into an operating room. Michele worked with the Italian special effects studio Makinarium to make the fiction as accurate as possible. He explained that these post-humans represented how people build identities today and how one can expose, hide, or reshape oneself through social media, fashion, and cosmetic surgery.

Phoebe Philo

Phoebe Philo is a British fashion designer who was the creative director of fashion brands Chloe, Celine, and Louis Vuitton. Her main philosophy was to redesign and revolutionize the industry with her new aesthetic, to define the new modern look of today’s generation. Her character narrative depicts using fashion to express what she is feeling at a particular moment. She was determined to push her dream in style to the highest she could achieve, regardless of taking numerous risks. It was one of the most iconic moments on the runway when she was leaving Celine. It was graced by the presence of her preteen daughter, who was propped against a pole in the center if the runway with two of her friends. Women respond to Philo’s Céline precisely because a woman runs it. Her shows are mostly graced by women models, inspiring the young generation.

Guo Pei is the most well-known designer in China. She is the first Asian designer to be invited to become a guest member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. She has been dressing celebrities, eminent women, royalty, and even members of the political elite for more than 20 years. Guo Pei is a dedicated artist who aims to inspire others by showcasing the best in traditional Chinese artistry while blending modern innovation and a Western flair. Her extraordinary creations are available in the Guo Pei: Couture Fantasy exhibition at the legion of honor museum in San Francisco. One of Guo Pei’s creations includes Rihanna’s famous 2015 Met Gala Yellow Empress gown. The breathtaking yellow cape took 50,000 hours of embroidery and two years to create. Two helpers were used to aid Rihanna in climbing the gala steps because the gown weighed fifty pounds. Guo Pei described her motivation as her desire to convey the “beauty of strength” of building through works that showed a conversation between the human body and space dimension.

Miuccia Prada

Miuccia Prada is an Italian fashion designer best known for serving as the Prada fashion house’s chief designer. She is famous for fusing traditional and modern styles through minimalist designs. She serves as co-CEO and head designer for the Prada handbag and clothing empire. Her company demonstrates its influence in the fashion sector. Prada has been creating and marketing exquisitely produced and creative bags, clothing, shoes, and accessories for men, women, and even kids. Miuccia co-owns most of the world’s luxury brands, including; Prada, Miu Miu, Church’s, and the historic Pasticceria Marchesi. She has won many awards, like the Glamour USA’s Women of the Year award, for her part in fashion, art, and culture in 2016.

Prada’s clothing and accessories have been characterized as traditional and unconventional, frumpy yet relaxed, and distinguished by a hazy techno-retro vibe. She once stated that she made ugly garments from terrible material, but they always looked fine. She might have been referring to looks like a Formica check pattern that looked like polyester from the 1970s.

Vivienne Westwood

Vivienne Westwood, a British fashion designer, had no intention of becoming a household name in the industry. Her creations were taken from historical texts, modernized, and changed as she thought fit. She was a significant player in the ’90s fashion movement thanks to her rebellious heart. Westwood still inspires fashion today and has successfully laid out her style visions regardless of time and trends. This has contributed to winning the title of British Designer of the Year three years consecutively. She pioneered the punk movement and the androgynous movement with the Fall/Winter 2015–2016 collection and has influenced and changed fashion for over 50 years. Westwood frequently employs heavy materials like wool, tweed, and tartan and enjoys drawing inspiration from earlier times. She even has a tartan MacAndrews’ of her own. Her gowns were distinguished by their extravagant use of fabric. The distinctive aesthetic of Westwood’s collections is characterized by lush drapery, crazy pattern and color combinations, and unexpected style adaptations.

Rei Kawakubo

Rei Kawakubo is a French and Tokyo-based fashion designer from Japan. She is the founder of Dover Street Market and Comme des Garçons (CDG). Rei Kawakubo is one of the most influential and forward-thinking designers today. For about five decades, she has defied tradition to reinvent fashion. She has twisted the shape and function of clothing and reframed perceptions of beauty through her designs. She has therefore offered a new relationship between the body and dress. Rei has had many successes and styled many celebrities who looked stunning. She styled Rihanna for the 2017 Met Gala. However, she does not believe she has completed her final form yet. She once told Elle that she had not achieved anything because every time before a collection, she expresses her desire for it not to be released, but it does. Rei argues that she designs the company and not the clothing.

I Got Divorced, and Now I Hate All My Clothes

After ending an 11-year relationship, my closest quickly turned into a gravesite, memorializing our life together.

woman holds a dress and looks forlorn in an unidentified film still

I didn’t get married anticipating divorce. Nor did I, a fashion and beauty editor, expect to find all my garments suddenly unwearable. Yet there I was, alone in my bedroom, with a wardrobe full of nothing I wanted to wear.

I wish I could tell you there was a big, explosive blowout, a tantalizing scandal, or a major red flag that festered or metastasized beyond the point of reconciliation, but the sad truth is that we grew apart. And as the chasm between us became too wide to bridge, it felt easier to separate gracefully than to force a lifetime together.

After a breakup, most people wax melancholic about the landmarks they frequented, once-cherished memories that become almost too painful, too unbearable to hold onto— anecdotal souvenirs that they wish they could scrub clean, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind -style. Remember how happy we were there and there and there? For me, those tales are told in threads: There’s the Only NY long-sleeve I bought, because it was one of his favorite brands; a J.Crew sweater he gifted me during one of our first holidays together; the vintage Thierry Mugler suit I snagged on one of our trips to San Francisco; the navy ruched dress I wore to his friend’s wedding; and then, of course, there was our own wedding—the Calvin Klein Collection dress I got custom-made for the big day. My closet felt like a gravesite, memorializing all these moments we had together, large and small.

Sartorially, I coped by not wanting to wear anything I owned—or anything at all.”

We were together 11 years—pretty much all of my 20s and the entirety of my time in New York. When so much of yourself is tethered to one person, when both of your lives become entirely enmeshed, it goes without saying that it’s exceedingly difficult to extricate yourself when it’s over. We decided to separate in 2022 and officially filed for divorce a year later. Sartorially, I coped by not wanting to wear anything I owned—or anything at all. “I just want to be naked!” I declared to anyone who asked how I was doing. One point, last summer, I said this while wearing a translucent, mini slip dress with nothing underneath except a teeny-tiny bralette and an equally teeny-tiny pair of hot pants.

“Well, it looks like you’re nearly there,” quipped a friend, her eyebrows raised.

The psychology behind post-breakup fashion is intuitive to grasp: A change in appearance, whether it be a haircut or your entire sartorial outlook, is a way to demarcate the end of one chapter and the start of another. You get a clean slate without having to wait to ring in a new year.

I want to make it absolutely clear: I wasn’t in an unhappy marriage, or a bad one for that matter. But in many ways I felt stuck and unseen. It’s hard to discern why I chose to dress the way I did—how does anyone? Pinpointing the reason can be as elusive as attempting to define a nebulous concept like love. The intricate makings of personal style are akin to hand-stitching fine lacework. Fleeting and abstract, so much of piecing together an outfit is based on a feeling . So for me to say I dressed all in black because I was in a sad marriage is reductive, and also wrong.

But I can say that I largely gravitated toward a restrained color palette. In my 20s, during a time when I was trying to prove myself as a writer and editor in a notoriously unkind, unforgiving industry, I wanted people to take me seriously, so I wore somber colors and modest styles—so modest, they bordered on puritanical. There was a period where hemlines hardly ever hiked higher than my shin. And those ankle-grazing skirts were often paired with baggy sweaters, oversized button-downs, or turtlenecks. My approach to fashion was austere, all clean lines and rigid, stark, minimalist silhouettes; I thought those were the trappings of Good Style. And anything outside of it (color, embellishments, skin-exposing cutouts) I considered frivolous and, quite frankly, gauche, and thus Bad. In retrospect, I imagine that a part of me wanted to hide behind my clothing.

I combed through my closet recently and tried on a dress I wore B.D. (Before Divorce). I was aghast at how shapeless it was, how much fabric there was, how blah and invisible I felt in it.”

And that inadvertently bled into how I dressed outside of work—or perhaps, it worked in tandem. My ex and I were both so focused on our careers that in our downtime together, we did nothing. I’m not entirely sure when things between us got to be so serious, but it reached a point where every moment, every activity, every conversation felt laden with an inexplicable weight. Spending time together was like wading through molasses, impossibly tough and tiresome. How I so badly wished there was lightness or laughter or joy, but what was missing was too blatant to ignore, despite how much I cared about him. And so, there was no desire to dress up. I hardly wore makeup. My nails were rarely painted. Apathy masqueraded as comfort. I combed through my closet recently and tried on a dress I wore B.D. (Before Divorce). I was aghast at how shapeless it was, how much fabric there was, how blah and invisible I felt in it.

Ripping our lives apart was a gut-wrenching process. Heartbreaking. A big part of why I held onto my marriage was because I had an all-consuming fear of starting over, which isn’t a good reason to stay in any relationship. But now, as a no-longer-married person—for the first time in over a decade—I’ve embarked on the long, unrelenting road of figuring out who I am, like Julia Roberts determining how she likes her eggs in Runaway Bride.

“Although the word divorce is often viewed as sad in one’s life, it can also be freeing. In a dysfunctional marriage, we can lose our sense of self and our own identity. And we may become very stifled in our creativity and growth,” Weiss says. “So post-divorce can offer an opportunity to explore different sides of ourselves. And fashion is the perfect outlet to show those changes.”

While I might want to parade around naked, the law—and common decency—forbids it. Instead, I’ve made some purchases: a vintage, cowl-neck metallic mini reminiscent of 2002 Paris Hilton, a collection of truncated tanks, a strappy bandeau, a curve-hugging mesh dress with up-to-there slits, and a two-piece sequin set. A friend called my new look “very Gen Z.” So many others have expressed their surprise. “That doesn’t seem like your style at all” has been the common refrain. Another said it looked like I was going through a midlife crisis, that maybe I should dress my age.

the author posing in a black crop top and midi skirt

A part of me feels like I’m flailing, like I’m unsure of my footing and stumbling around like a toddler learning how to walk; another part exudes a level of confidence I haven’t felt in so long, maybe ever. For the first time, I’m experimenting with my style, no-holds-barred, and dressing in a way that makes me feel desirable, even pretty. There’s also the possibility that all of this coincides with just growing older and finally feeling comfortable in my skin.

For now, I’ll hold onto what delights me: itty-bitty midriff-exposing tops, micro hemlines, and see-through everything. Finally, these clothes have started to make my closet feel like mine again.

Rihanna also said there are two options, but reiterated that it will be "very simple," "compared to everything I've ever done."

"I'm showing up for dinner," she joked. "Shout out to Anna Wintour."

In previous years, the singer and businesswoman has been known for her dazzling Met Gala looks from the yellow fur-trimmed cape by Guo Pei that she wore to the 2015 Met Gala, to the diamond-encrusted gown with matching headpiece by John Galliano for Maison Margiela that she wore to the 2018 event.

Rihanna, who is the mom of sons RZA and Riot Rose, who she shares with A$AP Rocky, said that her style has changed since becoming a mom.

Why Is the Supreme Court Making an Easy Case Related to Jan. 6 Rioters Hard?

An illustration of people marching in Washington. In the center, a huge hand with palm open emerges from a judge’s robes, apparently signaling the marchers to stop.

By Randall D. Eliason

Mr. Eliason is a former chief of the fraud and public corruption section at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

Imagine that during a Supreme Court argument, protesters angry about the case storm the court building. The mob breaks doors and windows and assaults security officers while forcing its way into the chamber. Some shout that they want to hang the chief justice. The justices and attorneys are forced to flee for their lives. It’s several hours before law enforcement secures the building and the argument can resume.

Has the court proceeding been obstructed or impeded? That doesn’t seem like a difficult question. But that’s essentially what the Supreme Court heard debated in arguments last week in Fischer v. United States , a case challenging a law being used to prosecute hundreds of people, including Donald Trump, for the events of Jan. 6, 2021.

Joseph Fischer is charged with being part of the mob that rioted at the Capitol, forcing members of Congress to flee and disrupting the electoral vote count. Along with assaulting police officers and other charges, he is charged under 18 U.S.C. 1512(c), which provides:

(c) Whoever corruptly — (1) alters, destroys, mutilates, or conceals a record, document, or other object, or attempts to do so, with the intent to impair the object’s integrity or availability for use in an official proceeding; or (2) otherwise obstructs, influences, or impedes any official proceeding, or attempts to do so, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both.

Prosecutors charge that by participating in the Capitol riot, Mr. Fischer corruptly obstructed and impeded the joint congressional proceeding to certify the election, in violation of 1512(c)(2). More than 300 other Jan. 6 rioters have faced the same charge. In the D.C. federal indictment of Mr. Trump, two of the four counts also rely on this statute, alleging that through his actions leading up to and on Jan. 6, he conspired to and did obstruct the congressional proceeding.

Jan. 6 defendants have repeatedly challenged the use of 1512(c) in their prosecutions. More than a dozen federal judges in Washington have rejected those challenges. But in Mr. Fischer’s case, a Trump-appointed judge, Carl Nichols, concluded the statute must be limited to obstructive acts involving documents, records or other objects. Because Mr. Fischer wasn’t charged with impairing the availability or integrity of any physical evidence, Judge Nichols dismissed the charge.

Prosecutors appealed. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit reversed and reinstated the charge, with one judge — also a Trump appointee — dissenting. The Supreme Court is reviewing that decision.

The language of the statute seems clear. Subsection 1 prohibits obstructing a proceeding by tampering with physical evidence, and Subsection 2 is a catchall, backstop provision that prohibits “otherwise” obstructing a proceeding by means not encompassed by Subsection 1. Connected by the word “or,” they define alternative ways to violate the statute. You have to struggle pretty hard to find any ambiguity here.

As the majority in the D.C. Circuit held, that should be the end of the matter. In describing the D.C. Circuit dissent, Judge Florence Pan borrowed a line from an earlier Supreme Court case to say that it seemed like “elaborate efforts to avoid the most natural reading of the text.” After all, textualism — relying on the plain text of a statute and the common understanding of its terms — is the favored method of statutory interpretation today, especially among conservatives.

Despite the plain language of the law, Mr. Fischer and his supporters argue it should be limited based on the reason behind its passage. During the Enron scandal in the early 2000s, the prosecution of the accounting giant Arthur Andersen for shredding an enormous number of documents was hamstrung by weaknesses in the existing obstruction laws. Congress passed the Sarbanes-Oxley Act in 2002, which included section 1512(c), in response to that scandal. Mr. Fischer claims the statute must therefore be limited based on Congress’s intent to respond to crimes involving evidence impairment.

But as Justice Elena Kagan noted during oral arguments, that’s not what the statute says. As she also pointed out, Congress easily could have written the statute that way if that was what it meant.

Limiting the statute as Mr. Fischer proposes would lead to absurd outcomes. Members of a violent mob who shut down a proceeding would not be guilty of obstructing that proceeding. But if in the process they happened to damage an exhibit, the statute would apply. Filing a false affidavit in a proceeding would be covered, even if it had no effect at all; violently halting the entire proceeding would not.

There’s no reason Congress would pass a law that makes such irrational distinctions. Congress might have been motivated by document shredding during the Enron scandal, but it sensibly responded by passing a statute that bars all obstruction, not one that prohibits certain types of obstruction while condoning others.

Nevertheless, Jan. 6 defendants maintain the court must disregard the statute’s clear language based on fears about how it might be applied. They argue that if the law is not limited to evidence impairment, prosecutors might target trivial offenses or otherwise protected activities, like lobbying or peaceful protests.

Several of the conservative justices seemed sympathetic to this argument. Justice Neil Gorsuch, for example, questioned whether a sit-in that disrupts a trial or heckler at the State of the Union address would violate the law. Pointing to such supposed dangers, Fischer’s counsel, Jeffrey Green, urged the court not to unleash this sweeping new prosecutorial power.

Except it’s not new. Section 1512(c) has been on the books for more than 20 years. Another federal statute that prohibits the corrupt obstruction of congressional proceedings has been around since the 1940s. If prosecutors were itching to prosecute peaceful protesters and legitimate lobbyists for felony obstruction, they’ve had the tools for decades. And yet we haven’t seen those cases.

As Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar pointed out, that’s because “inherent constraints” built into the statute — chiefly the requirement of corrupt intent — limit its reach. It’s true there are many nonviolent and lawful ways to influence a proceeding. But only those for which prosecutors can prove corrupt intent beyond a reasonable doubt risk running afoul of the law. That’s why, as General Prelogar noted, out of more than 1,300 Capitol rioters prosecuted so far, only about one-fourth — generally the most violent, egregious offenders — have been charged under 1512(c).

Mr. Fischer also argues that Section 1512(c) has never been used in a similar case and that this proves the statute does not apply to the events of Jan. 6. But all this really demonstrates is that unprecedented crimes lead to unprecedented prosecutions. As Justice Sonia Sotomayor observed, because we’ve never had an event like Jan. 6 before, “I’m not sure what a lack of history proves.”

The use of a relevant, clearly applicable obstruction law to prosecute the unique events of Jan. 6 does not mean prosecutors will suddenly abandon the discretion and judgment they’ve used for decades when applying the law to more routine cases, any more than prosecuting Mr. Trump for those events means that criminal prosecutions of former presidents will become routine.

It would be foolish to ignore the plain language of the statute to excuse the Capitol rioters based on feared abuses that live only in the imaginations of those seeking to avoid liability.

Even if the Supreme Court agrees that 1512(c) is limited to obstruction involving evidence impairment, the charges against Mr. Trump will probably survive. Prosecutors can argue that attempting to submit slates of phony electors and efforts to have the real ballots discarded constituted evidence-based obstruction. Justices Amy Coney Barrett and Ketanji Brown Jackson both raised that possibility during the argument, although without referring to Mr. Trump’s case.

But a ruling for Mr. Fischer would call into question the convictions, guilty pleas and prosecutions of scores of other Jan. 6 defendants. And it would provide an unjustified rallying cry for those who protest that the Justice Department has overreached when prosecuting Jan. 6 defendants.

Such a disruptive ruling is possible only if the court goes out of its way to disregard the statutory language and create ambiguity where none exists. If the Supreme Court stays true to its textualist principles, this is an easy case.

Rihanna at the Fenty Beauty Soft'Lit Foundation event in April 2024

Say so long to dramatic trains, over-the-top embellishments and jewel-encrusted hats.

For the 2024 Met Gala, Rihanna, 36, is apparently toning things down when it comes to her look.

“I’m actually keeping it real simple this year,” she told to Extra during an interview on Saturday, which took place at a launch event for Fenty’s Beauty Soft’lit Foundation.

The “Diamonds” singer revealed that, while she’s still choosing between two different outfits, they’re “very simple-ish” compared to what she’s worn to the event in the past .

Instead, the focus for the first Monday in May will be on her glam.

“It’s gonna come to what my makeup and what my hair is going to do,” the mom of two continued. “We wanna play with that, but I have no idea what I’m gonna do with that.”

However, just because the exact plan is unknown doesn’t mean the singer won’t arrive on the red carpet ready to impress as she always does.

“I’m showing up for dinner!” she joked. “Shout out to Anna Wintour.”

With the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” theme celebrating delicate vintage designs and co-chairs that include the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Zendaya, the ball, which is taking place on May 6, is sure to be another stylish, star-studded event.

It also seems like Rihanna is undergoing a bit of a style change as of late, reconsidering her sometimes-risqué wardrobe. Speaking with British Vogue, the Fenty beauty founder said that some of her more revealing outfits are now her new “fashion ick.”

“I did so much s—t in my life. I had my nipples out, I had my panties out,” she told the publication while walking the Fenty x Puma red carpet. “But now those are the things, I guess, as a mom, as an evolved young lady … it’s just things that I just feel like I would never do. I’m just like, ‘Oh my god, I really did that? Nips out?’”

Still, the singer isn’t completely against making bold fashion moves.

She recently channeled a nun for an Interview magazine shoot , and earlier in the month, embraced the Mob Wives trend, attending a birthday celebration in a tiny leopard mini dress and fur coat.
