Introduction:

According to me the best example of Kabaad se Jugaad is essay writing

Ways of using waste products:

Creativity can give exceptional dimension to people and their living always. When we apply our creativity skill in making decorative products from waste materials like tyres, plastic bottles, newspapers, packaging cartons, wheels, iron rods, drums etc. we can make beautiful items definitely. Recycling and reusing materials is a conventional method to protect our environment which we will apply to decorate our surroundings too. We just need to put some creative ideas to make different decorative items from waste products. We may use bright colours, glue, colourful ribbons, dimensional cutting, unique designs etc. in making all those decorative items. At first, we need to make some definite plans about which specific products we can make from waste products. Then we need to create some significant designs and buy the needed products. After that we have to make recycled products and select the locations where we can replace them. The same thing is applicable in making home decorative items as well. If we make prior plan of preparing some decorative items for making our comfort homes vibrant and pleasant then we can keep the waste products in home. By this, waste products will be released in short amount from home and we will be free from unnecessary garbage cleaning and pollution.

“Kabad se Jugad” Creating the Best out of Waste: Children Innovating on Waste Management

Ananya’s Fellowship is made possible by the Rural India Supporting Trust.

“Miss, can we do something out of this?” asked Sweety of grade VIII, showing a pile of old newspapers to her teacher, Ms. Khushboo Parveen. On the very next day, Muskan brings an old bell of her cycle if they can utilize it in any way. Slowly the students started bringing the unnecessary things or trash from their home. These things included the used pens (use and throw pens), rugged newspapers, used plastic bottles, old greeting cards, hard boards, etc. Initially, they piled up all the trash, what they can find their locality. The students not only brought the waste materials from their home but also they used to pick things from the way to their school. They never knew what they are going to do with these trashes. Their teacher asked them to think for a week and come to the same place where they had piled the waste materials.

Now after the week, Ms. Khushboo, their teacher showed them how to roll the newspaper and make it a stick-like structure. That this stick-like structure can again be turned into various forms. Initially, they were learning to make geometrical shapes out of that. Gradually, the students involved them in creating a  photo frame, paper-made flowers, flower bouquet, etc. Then, they planned to décor a classroom in their school to showcase their creativity. Over the last year, these students of Middle School Bedulia of Ujiarpur Block in Samastipur district of Bihar have been trying to create things out of unused waste materials.

Subsequently, the students have organised a Baal Mela (Children’s Fair) named as “Vidylaya Samudaya Samagam” (translated “ A gathering of school and community” ) in their school. The objective was to demonstrate and share the ideas of creative art and craft work among all the cluster level schools and with their parents. Six schools participated in this program. The theme of the exhibition was “Kabad se Jugaad”: Creating the best out of waste. There included science projects on solar energy, kinetic energy, and sewing activities like dress designing, knitting designs, etc. The program was supplemented with food stalls organized by the students.

“I was immensely happy to see that classroom of the school on Baal Mela, where the students have decorated their art and craft works,” said an overwhelmed Manju Devi, the cook of the Mid-Day Meal programme of the school.

Tuesdays are now Mangal Pandey Diwas in the Government Middle School Hasanpur Road of Hasanpur Block of Samastipur. It signifies a creative day introduced by the Bal Sansad, the student parliament members in the school. “We asked our friends to bring any waste materials like

used plastic bottles, cardboard, used pens,” said Sunika, the education minister of the school, while showing the flower pot they had prepared out of it.

Initially, they had taken 40 students from class VII and VIII and then divided them into 5 groups. Each group was given a theme of waste materials like newspaper, plastic bottles, wool, cardboard, and used pens. The groups were asked to feel free to make anything out of it. They have made flower pots, photo frames, wind chimes, wool, glass bangles, and baskets. Their signature creation was a flower pot made out of plastic bottles. These groups were excited to find the creativity within each other. They started building on that. One one Tuesday, they merged the idea with the large group. Now, more students became interested in the same activity. They are utilizing the day-to-day waste materials from their school. They also installed a dustbin in the school to keep it more clean.

“Even I was not sure what the Bal Sansad is going to do with these plastic bottles,” said the Headmaster of the school. It has also enhanced the interest of the students to stay back until the last class to participate in the Mangal Pandey Diwas .

Now, there are 7 schools in Samastipur district that have envisaged these ideas of waste management, thereby making useful things out of the waste materials found around. The student parliaments in the schools have initiated this idea, which is developing the creative concept among the children. As a result, the children are learning the optimal utilization of the resources. This seeds the idea of “reuse and recycle” among the students, aiming towards a green planet.

“No plastic” is nothing but a lifestyle. Nowadays, we are so engulfed with the plastic, that we cannot think beyond it. In Assam [1] , a school is asking for plastic waste as their fees. So that they can encourage the students to reduce the use of plastic.

A few things I remember from my childhood is that my mom used keep the used bottles of shampoo, lotion, deodorant, etc. She used to make interesting things out of it. She actually used to create those things out of nothing, a thing of no use. Sometimes, we were annoyed with that trash. But mostly me and my younger sister used to wait patiently for her creations. We used to assist her with the work sometimes. Our afternoon hours in summer vacation would not have been so interesting without this art and crafts  work done by our mom, as we were not able to play out due to the scorching sun. Most of the things were for household décor and some were reusable. While becoming an adult myself, I also have started keeping the trash, trying to make something creative out of it. Slowly it has grown as an interest.

While interacting with the students and their teachers in Samastipur, I realized the passion of creating reusable substances among the students. I’ve witnessed that this approach not only initiates the students towards the art and craft activities, but also imbibed an idea of sustainability. Usage of required amount of resources can actually lead them towards minimum utilization of resources, thereby building upon the sustainable usage of resources.

The Anandshala programme of Quest Alliance is trying to engage the students until the last hours of school. Through their enrichment programs, they are involving the students of the middle school from class V to VIII. The art and craft work are increasing the students’ interest with the school activities. They are likely to stay back in their school till the last hours for these innovative and enrichment activities. All these are happening with the commencement of Bal Sansad [2] in the school. Thereby, the students are developing their critical thinking, adding food for their innovated ideas, and finding the agency. Unless there is a scope to think differently, we cannot expect the change will happen and sustain.

Kabaad Se Jugaad Initiative Is An Example Of How To Beautify Public Places At Low Cost: PM Modi In ‘Mann Ki Baat’

The Prime Minister was lauding the Uttar Pradesh government’s campaign titled ‘Kabaad se Jugaad’, that aims to beauty public places by reusing products.

New Delhi: In the 93rd episode of his Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised the Uttar Pradesh government’s campaign titled ‘Kabaad se Jugaad’ which has the objective of beautifying public places in an environment-friendly way. PM Modi termed Yogi Adityanath’s government’s initiative was an example of protection of the environment and beautification of the city.

The campaign is also an example of how to beautify public places at a low cost. I appreciate all the people involved in this campaign from the core of my heart. Realising the vision of the State Government to beautify the cities, the Meerut Municipal Corporation worked to beautify the city through waste material and disposable items. Since the formation of the Yogi government, there has been a significant improvement in the power supply in Meerut. The Municipal Corporation also resorted to artificial lights to beautify the district, the PM said during his address.

The Prime Minister further said,

The Municipal Corporation launched a campaign to illuminate Meerut and named it ‘Kabaad Se Jugaad’. The Municipal Commissioner Amit Pal Sharma informed that the campaign is an example of how public places can be beautified at a low cost. The city is being decorated using waste and discarded items such as iron scrap, plastic waste, old tires and drums. Arrangements were made at the circuit house intersection with artificial light trees, barricading from waste wheels of hand carts, mini wheel parks, display walls from old JCB tires, and stool tables for sitting in the parks, among others. Using items at a lower cost, the city was decorated in a beautiful, unique way, presenting a ‘model’ before others,” the PM said further.

Earlier during the episode, PM Modi announced that based on the recommendation of the task force set up to observe cheetahs in Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park, it will be decided when people will be able to see the animals.

Friends, a task force has been formed. This task force will monitor the cheetahs and see how much they have been able to adapt to the environment here. On this basis, a decision will be taken after a few months and then you will be able to see the cheetahs, said PM Modi in the 93rd episode of his monthly radio broadcast ‘Mann Ki Baat’.

PM Modi also said that climate change is a major threat to marine ecosystems and that the litter on beaches is disturbing.

It becomes our responsibility to make serious and continuous efforts to tackle these challenges, he said.

During the address of the 93rd episode of Mann ki Baat, the PM also announced that Chandigarh airport will now be named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh as a tribute to the great freedom fighter.

As a tribute to the great freedom fighter, it has been decided that the Chandigarh airport will now be named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh, said Modi in the 93rd episode of his monthly Mann ki Baat address.

The Prime Minister wished all the sportspersons participating in the 36th edition of the National Games starting on Thursday in Gujarat, ahead of the inauguration on September 29.

Friends, that’s all the time in ‘Mann Ki Baat’, but before I leave, I want to tell you about the National Games as well. National Games are being organized in Gujarat from the 29th of September, said Prime Minister Modi while addressing the 93rd edition of ‘Mann Ki Baat’.

The PM also talked about the Divyangs and said,

India is winning laurels in para-sports. We have all been witness to this in many tournaments. There are many institutes that are working on helping Divangs increase their fitness levels & participate in sports. Today there are many people who are engaged in promoting the fitness culture among the specially abled at the grassroots level. This imparts a lot of strength to the self-confidence of the specially-abled.

In the broadcast, PM Modi paid tributes to BJP ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, saying he was a profound thinker and a great son of the country.

NDTV – Dettol have been working towards a clean and healthy India since 2014 via the Banega Swachh India initiative, which is helmed by Campaign Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan. The campaign aims to highlight the inter-dependency of humans and the environment, and of humans on one another with the focus on One Health, One Planet, One Future – Leaving No One Behind. It stresses on the need to take care of, and consider, everyone’s health in India – especially vulnerable communities – the LGBTQ population , indigenous people, India’s different tribes, ethnic and linguistic minorities , people with disabilities, migrants, geographically remote populations, gender and sexual minorities. In wake of the current COVID-19 pandemic , the need for WASH ( Water , Sanitation and Hygiene ) is reaffirmed as handwashing is one of the ways to prevent Coronavirus infection and other diseases. The campaign will continue to raise awareness on the same along with focussing on the importance of nutrition and healthcare for women and children, fight malnutrition , mental wellbeing, self care, science and health, adolescent health & gender awareness . Along with the health of people, the campaign has realised the need to also take care of the health of the eco-system. Our environment is fragile due to human activity, which is not only over-exploiting available resources, but also generating immense pollution as a result of using and extracting those resources. The imbalance has also led to immense biodiversity loss that has caused one of the biggest threats to human survival – climate change. It has now been described as a “ code red for humanity. ” The campaign will continue to cover issues like air pollution , waste management , plastic ban , manual scavenging and sanitation workers and menstrual hygiene . Banega Swasth India will also be taking forward the dream of Swasth Bharat, the campaign feels that only a Swachh or clean India where toilets are used and open defecation free (ODF) status achieved as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, can eradicate diseases like diahorrea and the country can become a Swasth or healthy India.

Kabaad Se Jugaad : Bhopali Heart

Kabaad Se Jugaad : Bhopali Heart.

“In 2016-17 Bhopal stood second in the Swachh Survekshan in India. Just after this, we thought let’s make Bhopal the cleanest city of India,” said Robin Jagtap RED FM Programming Head .

Following are some highlights from his conversation with us.

Bhopal aims to be the first in Swachh Survekshan 2018 and beautify the city using Scrap Items (Known as Kabaad ). Back to the story, Robin begins telling us “In our meeting with the then Commissioner Nagar Nigam Priyanka Das Ma’am, she told us that we need to do something to uplift Bhopal in the next Swachh Survekshan, from there the concept of  कबाड़ से जुगाड़ (Kabaad Se Jugaad meaning Best Out of Waste) came into our mind. So that we could show people that something good can come out of the waste materials if acted smartly and innovatively.

Seeding the idea

“Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.” Steve Jobs

Irrigating the idea

We at RED FM always believe in thinking out of the box, and thus we thought of using the best out of the waste. In this way, pollution can be controlled and we’ll hit two targets in a single throw.

Not only us but the people from all over the world using scrap items to make something best out of it. So why can’t we do the same? We don’t think we did a great work but yes taking initiatives like this will certainly aware people about things we can do out of the waste too. So other people can also start taking initiatives like this.

“For good ideas and true innovation, you need human interaction, conflict, argument and debate.” – Margaret Heffernan

We all know plastic is not degradable and is a big challenge for us. But very few know that plastic can be recycled in many ways. Even houses and roads can be made out of the waste plastic.

To my surprise, we got unlimited support from the government. Nagar Nigam Bhopal also gave us full support in this campaign. We just took the initiative but the real work is done by the Bhopalis. They contributed in every possible way. Results speak about the success of this campaign, Bhopal transformed into such a beautiful city, you would see we are using innovative ways to beautify it.”

This is all Robin had to say, but what the city has to offer is much more than this. Bhopal is known as The City of Lakes and does offer scenic beauty at several places. The calmness and peace of this city give soothing and relaxing pace to people. If Soorma Bhopali is the only thing you know about Bhopal, you must pay a visit!

Jugaad: a study in indian ingenuity and improvisation.

Estimated reading time: 7 minutes

Jugaad is a concept that taps into current trends around crafting and thrifting in everyday life. But as the Indian economy grows with an emphasis on innovation, there has been a resurgence of interest in the idea of jugaad. Rina Arya (University of Huddersfield) argues why a broader view of the concept can help illuminate its renewed interest.

‘ Jugaad ’ , a colloquial Hindi word, which approximately translates as ‘quick fix’, ‘workaround’ or ‘hack’, expresses a quintessentially Indian concept, used ubiquitously throughout mainly Northern India. In essence, Jugaad describes a mentality or approach that seeks solutions in adversity, describing how the world is negotiated by improvisation and ingenuity. The word refers to the practice of bending rules and thinking laterally to making something work.

It is a necessity for many Indians at the Bottom of the Pyramid to use a term from economics, for whom access to resources is problematic, and whose socio-economic status makes opportunities for social progression more difficult. For wealthier socio-economic groups, jugaad is employed to reduce expense and economise labour costs (Rai, 2019). But arguably scarcity continues to be prevalent across India and for that reason underpins the approach to jugaad.

The notion of jugaad recently resurfaced in the academy in the context of management studies as a result of the impact of the study Jugaad Innovation: A Frugal and Flexible Approach to Innovation for the 21 st Century (2012) by Radjou et.al, where it was explored as an indispensable part of a toolkit in Indian innovation. Outside of its role in the Indian economy, very little has been written about the cultural resonance of  jugaad . So why has this word regained significance in Indian innovation, and what’s its application in everyday India?

Perhaps the best way of understanding the ethos of jugaad is by example and approach. In each case the motivation is always functional and often involves the deployment of objects that have been adapted to fulfil a different function to what they were originally intended, all with the aim of fixing something that was broken or to improve efficiency. Television screens suspended from the ceiling by cables propped up by plastic chairs, saucepans propped up by bottles with lighted candles underneath, handlebars on the back of a cycle being used to carry goods or passengers, the punctured plastic bottle which is used as a shower hose, tiffin boxes tied to a cycle are all typical examples found in households or on the streets. Many instances of jugaad are seen in transport, where a vehicle is reinforced through the addition of cannibalised parts – frames, engines or pumps. Jugaad is seen too in the social realm of everyday activity in interactions that people have with one another, especially with regard to communication with the intent to negotiate, bargain or persuade during sale transactions with the view to saving money. A simple but effective example cited in the literature is the social function of the missed call on a mobile phone as an implicit form of communication.

The solution arrived at in each of these cases is not durable but will have to do for now. It is regarded in its efficiency at that moment – ready-to-hand without concern for future proofing. In their urgency and chalta hai (anything goes) attitude, many examples of jugaad lie outside of the formal economy and on the ‘margins’ of society. This is commonly seen in the way in which unregistered ‘ jugaad’ vehicles and are typically without tax insurance. At the more extreme of the spectrum are more overt examples of illegality, such as where intrepid outlaws steal electricity for their villages, out of necessity because they can’t afford it or just because they can get away with it. Whatever might be the motivation, they are putting themselves in potentially fatal situations.

Recent studies in management culture, such as that expounded in Jugaad Innovation , deployed jugaad in examples that take us away from this quick-fix response and that require higher-order thinking and a more permanent solution that can be accused of distorting its focus on the here-and-now essence. The Mitticool clay refrigerator, invented in 2009, and Tata Motor’s Nano car, invented in 2008, fit this description. Both inventions attempted to tackle very real problems faced by India’s population. The refrigerator sought to address the problem of food preservation for rural Indians who do not have access to electricity. Its inventor, Mansukhbhai Prajapati, was motivated by social need. Tata’s ingenious plan (which failed) served to accommodate families in more compact and affordable vehicles, thereby lessening the problem of families travelling in cramped conditions on unsafe and unlicensed makeshift transport. The extent of protracted problem-solving, availability of resources and durability of these examples problematise their conceptualisation as examples of jugaad , even though they strive for core features integral to jugaad , namely frugality and inclusivity. In this similarity yet difference they open up the very important issue of the boundaries of the concept.

Recent interest in jugaad in management culture open up the question of the validity of jugaad when thinking about innovation. There are different aspects to the problem. If we take the etymology literally, and stick to its roots as a particular type of makeshift ingenuity, then anything that involves greater ideation, resource management or complexity falls outside of this definition. But if we take a broader view that incorporates jugaad as a sensibility that is used in innovation then its remit becomes wider. A syncretic perspective accommodates its contradictory aspects. It is at once a strategy for survival for some whilst also being methods or shortcuts for facilitating convenience. It is invites different attitudes – humour, ridicule, incredulity – as evidenced in the multitude of comic visuals (images and videos) circulated on YouTube and social media channels. In contrast to these perceptions, as evidenced in the championing of Indian innovation, it has also become a source of national pride, even though the two might seem to be antithetical. But it has a more serious side. By its place in the margins of the official economy it speaks of the hardship of rural Indians who practice it out of necessity, often endangering themselves and others in the process. Far from being humorous, this conveys the sheer disparity of socio-economic relations in India which make stark the different realities that groups face.

The contrast of perspective, the whole arena of difference that discussion of this compact and complex concept invites necessitates further research, which has all but been outlined here. Jugaad is a concept that taps into current trends around crafting, thrifting. And the growth of the Indian economy, with its emphasis on innovation, and in a high-risk society, summons the need for a resurgence of interest in jugaad .

Local skill of my district which I can promote

(Local skill of my district which I can promote)
