National Overseas Scholarships for Minority Community Students, Karnataka

This scholarship is provided by the Directorate of Minorities, Government of Karnataka, to graduates, postgraduates and PhD scholars domiciled in Karnataka belonging to the Minority Community. Candidates eligible to pursue this scholarship can receive financial assistance of up to INR 20 Lakh for 2 years to take up higher education abroad.

Scheme of Overseas Scholarships for SC/ST Students Karnataka

The aim of this scholarship is to assist candidates of Karnataka belonging to the SC/ ST category to take up their Masters and PhD studies abroad.This scholarship is operative under the Social Welfare Department of the Government of Karnataka with the motive of providing up to 100% financial assistance to the eligible candidates for their studies abroad.

Research Guideline PhD Fellowship for Backward Classes Karnataka

The scholarship is offered by the Department of Backward Classes Welfare, Government of Karnataka for candidates willing to pursue a full-time PhD in the areas of seminars, language, sociology, science and technology, agriculture and related sciences, technical and medical sciences, commerce and management. Candidates eligible for this scholarship can get an allowance of INR 5,000 per month.

Incentive for SSLC and 2nd PUC students, Karnataka

The Minority Welfare Department, Directorate of Minorities, Government of Karnataka provides this scholarship to assist the minority community candidates. Candidates who have cleared standard 10 (SSLC) and standard 12 (2nd PUC) with 85% of marks or above in the examinations conducted by the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board or Department of Pre-University Education are eligible for this scholarship.

Pre-Matric Scholarships for Minorities of Karnataka

The Directorate of Minorities, Government of Karnataka offers this scholarship programme to assist the minority community candidates to carry on with their education. The candidates of Standard 1 to 10 who have secured 50% or above score in the previous exam are eligible for this scholarship. 

Post-Matric Scholarships for Minorities of Karnataka

The aim of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to the minority community candidates of Karnataka to enable them continue their studies at the post-matriculation level. Candidates studying in the Standard 11 to PhD level are eligible to avail this scholarship.

MPhil and PhD Fellowships for Minority Students, Karnataka

This scholarship seeks to provide financial aid to the minority community candidates of the Karnataka state. Candidates seeking to study MPhil and PhD are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Merit-Cum-Means Scholarship for Minorities, Karnataka

This scholarship programme is for candidates belonging to minority community seeking to take up a professional or technical course. The Directorate of Minorities, Government of Karnataka offers rewards up to INR 30,000 to candidates securing more than 50% marks in the previous examination and who possess an annual family income of less than INR 2.5 Lakh.

Samagra Shikshana Karnataka Fellowship

The Department of Education, Government of Karnataka provides this fellowship programme for candidates possessing a postgraduate/professional/any other degree in Social Sciences or Public Policy with relevant work experience of 3 to 10 years. The eligible candidates are provided a monthly stipend of INR 70,000  during the time-period of the fellowship.

SSP Scholarship

The SSP scholarship is a state-funded programme open to residents of Karnataka pursing class I to post-doctoral studies. Different SSP scholarship programmes are offered to students pursuing education at the pre-matric and post-matric levels by a number of subsidiary departments under the state government.

Scholarship will be given in the following ways: Students whose family annual income is below Rs 8 lakh will get a 100% scholarship. Students whose family annual income is between Rs 8 to 15 lakh will get a 50% scholarship. Student whose family annual income is above Rs 15 lakh will get a 33% scholarship

The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of Karnataka has initiated the “ DST (Department of Science and Technology) Scholarship for Research Students of Ph.D. in Science and Engineering” programme through Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society (KSTePS), an autonomous organization of the Department. This program supports Ph.D. students working in different disciplines in basic science and engineering by providing monthly fellowships.

Applications are invited from research scholars who have already registered for Ph.D. in Science or Engineering at a recognized University/ Institution/ College in Karnataka.

ELIGIBILITY

• The candidates must have confirmed Ph.D. registration for Full Time under the Ph.D. programme of any UGC/AICTE recognized University/ Institution/ College in Karnataka. Also, students from Colleges/ Institutions which are affiliated to such recognized Universities in the State are eligible to apply. Candidates registered for Part Time Ph.D. are not considered .
• The candidates must have successfully completed the Ph.D. course work.
• The applicant should possess a Master degree or equivalent, such as Masters in Science, Masters in Engineering or Technology with at least 60%
• The upper age limit for applying for the fellowship is 35 years , relaxable up to 5 years in case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC)/ Scheduled Tribes (ST)/ Physically Handicapped/ Visually Handicapped and Females.
• The candidates who are currently availing fellowship under any schemes of the State or Central Government or other agencies/institutions, will have to opt for only one of the fellowships.

FELLOWSHIP AMOUNT AND DURATION

The amount of the fellowship will be Rs. 20,000/- per month.

The fellowship will be initially for one year.

NUMBER OF FELLOWSHIPS

The total number of fellowships proposed for the current year is 42.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

Selection for award of fellowship is made based on following criteria:

• First preference will be given to those, who have cleared NET/SLET/GATE.
• A weightage of 20% will be provided for clearing NET and GATE, whereas 10% will be provided for clearing SLET.
• Merit list will be prepared based on the score in the qualifying exams (such as M.Sc., M.Engg. or M.Tech.) including the weightage to NET/SLET/GATE.
• Minimum 30% fellowships (12 numbers) are reserved for female candidates.
• Merely fulfilling of eligibility criteria may not entitle a candidate for the selection under the program. Decision of KSTePS in matters of selection or for the award of Fellowships etc. shall be final and binding on the candidate.

  A hard copy of the application in the prescribed format (Annexure-I) and duly forwarded by the affiliating institution must be sent to The Managing Director, Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society (KSTePS), Department of Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka, Vijnana Bhavana, 3 rd Floor, # 24/2, Near B.D.A Complex, 21 st Main Road, Banashankari 2 nd Stage, Bangalore-560070. Applications submitted through email are not considered.

  Filling the Application

• Application has to be submitted in the prescribed format ( Annexure-I ).
• It is mandatory to fill up column number 1-13 in BLOCK LETTERS only.
• The envelope containing application should be superscribed as “ Application for the DST-Ph.D. Fellowship ”.
• Please keep a copy of the filled form with you for future reference.
• Applications submitted through email and incomplete applications are not considered.

• Self-attested Matriculation Certificate and Post-Graduation mark sheets.
• Self-attested copy of Ph.D. Registration Certificate and Ph.D. course-work mark sheet/completion certificate.
• Self-attested certificate of disability issued by the competent authority, if necessary.
• Self-attested certificate of caste issued by the competent authority, if necessary.
• A brief CV of Applicant (Up to 2 Pages only).
• A brief CV of the Research Supervisor (Up to 4 Pages only).

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has given priority to the downtrodden students and staffs during IX plan period and given direction to all the universities to establish SC/ST Cell.

• The SC/ST Cell at Karnataka State  Akkamahadevi Women's University was constituted in the year 2003.
• After the establishment of the Cell in the university, it specifically concentrated on the welfare of the SC/ST students, Research scholars and Staffs
• The main aim of the Cell is to monitor the guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission and by the department of Ministry of Social Welfare Government of Karnataka from time to time.

To be an institution of excellence in higher education that continually responds to the changing social realities through the development and application of knowledge, towards creating a people-centered and ecologically sustainable society that promotes and protects the Dignity, equality, social justice and human rights for all, with special emphasis on marginalised and vulnerable groups.

In pursuance of its vision, the Karnataka State  Akkamahadevi Women's University, Jnanashakti Campus Vijayapur, Karnataka. Organizes teaching programmes to facilitate the development of competent and committed professionals for practice, research and teaching, develops and disseminates knowledge through extension activities at the local, regional, national and international levels.

Functions of the SC/ST Cell

• The SC/ST Cell is giving wide publicity through circulars to all the faculties and informs the students about the various scholarships; namely, Post-Metric Scholarship, Karnataka Higher Education Special Scholarship, Meritorious Scholarship, P.G. Women Scholarship, Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship, P.G. Scholarship for professional courses, ICMR, CSIR, ICSSR and other scholarships, and fellowships.
• The SC/ST Cell has taken up the problems of the SC/ST students and employees with the university authorities and has solved some of them amicably. The cell, in the ultimate analysis, has been user friendly councilors to all SC/ST employees and students.
• The SC/ST Cell is also helping the SC/ST Research Scholars in getting the University Fellowship from the university and from the state government.
• The Cell is implementing various schemes of the University Grants Commission with the objective to improve the learning levels of Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe candidates to bring them up to the general level of the other communities.
• The University is providing statistical information periodically and promptly on all aspects to the Government of India and the State Government.
• The SC/ST Cell provides guidance to various University Committees in respect of promotions/recruitment for the latest rule position concerning SC/ST reservations.
• The Cell takes due care in establishing the Book Bank and Book Grants for the SC/ST students of the university. The Cell also advises the students to utilize the facilities of the Book Bank and to borrow books depending on availability.
• The cell established the competitive coaching academy for the effective training and coaching for various competitive exams conducted by the UPSC,KPSC,PO,Railways, NET,SLET, TET for teachers etc.
• The cell is regularly distributing the Laptops to  all the PG and Research scholars.

SCHOLARSHIPS/FELLOWSHIPS

• The SC/ST students are getting Scholarship from DSW Government of Karnataka .
• The SC/ST Cell provide the EBL for SC/ST Hostel students.
• The SC/ST Cell provide Fellowship to all M.Phil and PhD    research scholar.
• Ph.D Scholars - Rs. 15,000/-per month & contingency of   Rs.20,000/-One year (JRF) & Rs.20,000/- Two year (SRF).
• MPhil Scholars – Rs. 8,000/-per month & contingency of   Rs. 10,000/- per annum

Key Information

Karnataka scholarships 2024 are available exclusively to the domiciles studying  class I to the postdoctoral  level. The  government provides monetary assistance to students aspiring to travel overseas for higher education. Deserving candidates will get a maximum of  INR 20,00,000  as a scholarship reward. The last date to apply for the post-matric Karnataka scholarship in SSP is  June 26, 2024 (tentatively) .

Karnataka Scholarship List  2023-24

Many subsidiary departments under the state government of Karnataka and several private organisations provide scholarship opportunities to eligible students. Candidates from class I to those pursuing postdoctoral degrees can obtain scholarships for Karnataka students. Given below are the Karnataka scholarships lists:

Merck India Charitable Trust [MICT] Scholarship  

Pre-matric karnataka scholarship  .

The directorate of minorities, the tribal welfare, and the social welfare departments provide the pre-matric Karnataka scholarships for  minority , Scheduled Tribe ( SC ) and Scheduled Tribe ( ST ) students, respectively. In addition, the state government also provides Karnataka scholarships for children of  unclean occupation labourers .

Students from class I studying at a recognised school can receive scholarship benefits. However, they must score at least  50% marks  in the previous exams to qualify for the pre-matric Karnataka scholarships.

The post-matric Karnataka scholarship is available to students pursuing a general or professional course. The state government reserves 30% of the post-matric scholarships for girls.

The Incentive for SSLC and II PUC Students  

The directorate of minorities in Karnataka provides the incentive scheme for SSLC and II PUC students. Candidates who have cleared the class X and class XIIn board exams with at least 85% marks can avail Karnataka scholarship 2024 incentive. However, the students should have appeared for the class X and XII board exams conducted by the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board or Department of Pre-University Education.

Candidates who are pursuing an undergraduate or postgraduate degree can apply to this scheme. However, they should have scored a minimum of 90% marks in the previous qualifying exam.

Vidyasiri Karnataka Scholarship  

The Backward Classes Welfare Department in Karnataka provides the Vidyasiri Karnataka scholarship to the SC/ST, OBC, SC, and PwD students. Those who have cleared the class X board exam can apply for the Vidyasiti Karnataka scholarship 2024. The government will cover the course fee, hostel fee and grant up to INR 1,500 every month.

The government offers up to INR 20,00,000 for up to t wo years to help the students with their education.

Prabhuddha Overseas Karnataka Scholarship for SC/ST Students

The government offers up to 100% monetary aid to the selected studies.
