Do you remember your early childhood memories with your brother? From those friendly wrestling matches to sneaky cookie jar raids, even those classic sibling rivalries, all these precious moments define your unique relationship.

Your shared history carries a cocktail of love, laughter, tears, and bonding that only siblings understand. Now imagine sharing this special bond in front of your brother’s soon-to-be lifetime companion and hundreds of wedding guests.

Seize this opportunity to celebrate your sibling connection like no other time before. It’s time to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard), unleash your creativity and craft a wedding speech that’s as exceptional as your bond with your brother!

Mastering the Art of Speech Structure: A Guide for Brothers

speech for brothers wedding 1

Standing up there, hundreds of eyes on you, expecting a speech that’s equal parts engaging and amusing! Now, that can cause even the boldest of us to fumble a little. So where do you start? Here’s my two-word formula – structure matters!

An Enticing Introduction

Your opening words are like the window display of a store. Make sure they sparkle enough to grab attention. Start by warming up the audience (Yes, even Uncle Bob in the last row). Offer a hearty welcome to everyone present, acknowledge the bride and groom – your brother and his love, and set an engaging tone for what lies ahead.

Power-Packed Storytelling

Here’s where we dig into the goldmine of all those insider details only a sibling can hold. Paint a picture with your words about how your brother has grown and evolved personally and as part of a couple. The first time he wore dad’s shoes pretending to be an adult or when he swooned over his first teenage crush. Include snippets of how your dynamic duo became a super trio with the entry of his partner in crime!

Remember, stories keep people hooked. So weave in some enchanting narratives but remember not to make it longer than Hogwarts’ history – keep it concise, yet captivating.

The Cream: An Impactful Conclusion

This is the grand finale: where you tie all your beautifully narrated anecdotes together to shower newlyweds with your sincere wishes for their future together. Keep an optimistic outlook, sprinkle some humor here (let’s break any leftover tension), and finish off with rousing toast.

Skip overboard gushing but don’t skimp on heartfelt sentiments either. You need just enough emotions to stir teardrops in mom’s eyes without raising sarcastic eyebrows from twice-removed cousins.

Shaping your speech structure won’t just include writing out these elements – it’s about tying them together seamlessly while keeping the audience engaged and entertained! And remember – authenticity wins hearts every single time! With these steps in mind, you’re already halfway there.

Unveiling the Personality of the Groom/Bride: Incorporating Humor and Sentiment

Now, let’s talk about your brother – the dashing groom for whom this grand celebration is underway. This part of your wedding speech is like a puzzler’s paradise – putting together pieces of humor and sentiment to build a delightful illustration of your sibling’s life journey.

The Art of Balanced Tones

The first takeaway here is to strike that elusive balance between humor and sentiment. The goodies you squeeze out from your shared past should taste sweet with sentiment yet have a pinch of spice from laughter-filled instances. Remember, just as your grandma recipes don’t bloom without the right balance, neither does your speech.

How about sharing that hilarious incident when he decided to audition for the school play but forgot all his lines on stage? Follow it up with something sentimental, like when he barely missed scoring at his first high school basketball game but was still proud to have tried. Instant crowd-pleaser!

Scrolling Down Memory Lane

Sibling relationships are gold mines for stories. But remember, pick anecdotes which uncloak the beautiful bond you share. It could be the time you both played pirates pretending torchlight was treasure or how you fought over the last cookie only to split it equally (after mom’s intervention perhaps?). Show the audience this bond that encapsulates years of love, brawls, shared dreams, and cheer!

Embracing Authenticity: The Heart of Your Speech

Do not forget – be sincere and authentic. That’s how good speeches become great ones! Capture not just pleasant experiences but also those struggles that molded your brother into the person standing next to his partner today. Highlight his growth – personal, emotional, and maybe even in style (Let’s admit those teenage hair experiments were tragic!).

This way, guests get a sentimental yet fun peek into their journey together! After all, there’s no better candid camera than a sibling’s memory!

So ready to slice open those layers of sibling dynamics and craft an irresistibly authentic speech? Brace yourself then cause we’re diving in deeper next!

Example snippet 1: “I remember when we were kids, my brother decided to try his hand at piano, despite having a notable lack of rhythm. He clanked and banged away day after day, much to our parents’ dismay, but never once gave up. Well folks, I’m glad to report that now he’s quite a pianist! Through this little anecdote, it’s not just his persistence I’d like to highlight though. It’s also the way he looks at life – fearlessly trying out new things whether it leads to applause or good-hearted laughter!”

Example snippet 2: “Now I must tell you about this fascinating incident when my brother met his fiancee for the first time. Picture them awkwardly sharing a bench at the park with no idea what destiny had in store for them! They chatted about dogs and shared love for pepperoni pizzas and in that moment, their shared journey began – all over mutterings about furry companions and stuffed crusts. Since then, they’ve faced highs and lows together – braving storms and skyrocketing on rainbows. And I’ve seen him, my oh-so-organized brother transform into someone who doesn’t just plan life but also enjoys its beautiful chaos – all because of his loving partner.”

Example snippet 3: “We siblings share a very unique bond. You see, my brother…he’s always been the adventurous one amongst us. That one time when he patiently convinced me to ride down that ridiculously steep hill on our grandpa’s rusty old bicycle? Crazy yet the most thrilling experience ever for our timid 10-year-old selves! Through thick and thin he’s always pushed me out of my comfort zone (And been there to laugh when I land on my face!). But that’s him- courageous risk-taker yet heartwarming comforter when things go south!”

Navigating the Dos and Don’ts of a Wedding Speech

Raise your pens, folks! It’s time to chart the road etiquette of a successful wedding speech. To craft a speech that leaves imprints on hearts, serves chuckles on platters and dodges awkward eye-rolls, keep these dos and don’ts handy.

Road Signs on the Positive Lane

The entire event is awash with joy and you’re one of its key cherubs. Reflect this happiness in your words. Let your speech be a sundrenched highway, radiating positivity. Bring out the good times – from all-nighter board games to first college hangovers, recount victories, celebrate milestones and bathe in the warmth of beautiful sibling love.

Detours to Avoid

Now let’s scratch out certain paths from our navigation map. Shrinking violets like political squabbles or past heartbreaks have no place in your address. Remember, you’re not drafting a scandalous thriller, but sweetly narrating a love story!

No negative perspectives on marriages please. No one wants to hear about your twice-divorced Uncle Frank’s philosophy on marital bliss or cousin Susie’s belief that cats make better partners than humans.

Do not – I repeat – do not forget to consider diverse backgrounds while sharing jokes or tales. What might be splitting-his-sides hilarious for Uncle Bob may fizzle as uncomfortable silence amongst other guests.

A Message for All Ears

Before you uncork that bubbly anecdote about your shared childhood escapades remember – there are children present. Also remember Grandma Ethel sporting her ever-scandalized gaze as well as your new sister-in-law’s traditional parents from across the state (or even overseas!). Curtail every ‘colorful’ memory or incident that should’ve been locked away in Pandora’s box.

After going through this roadmap of must-follow rules, rest assured you’re one step closer to crafting a wedding speech worthy of standing ovations (or at least warm laughter and few happy tears!). Just remember, you’re there to charm the audience with stories infusing color into the canvas of wedded bliss. Onward we saunter to unearthing emotions next!

Translating Emotion into Words: Expressing Love and Best Wishes

speech for brothers wedding3 1

Weddings sweep us into a whirlwind of emotions and it’s your job to now bottle this glowing warmth and uncork it during your speech. The trick here is to ensure that you don’t leave anyone drenched in emotion, but delicately sprinkle them with heartfelt sentiments!

Crafted with Care: Articulating Affection

As the wistful sibling, you’ve got an all-access pass to project sincere affection for the couple. When speaking about your brother, let your words reflect the pride and love you have for him. And when turning the spotlight onto his partner, share how they have added more dimension and delight to his life.

Remember, it’s not about painting an idyllic picture. It’s about acknowledging that life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows, but the right companion can make every storm seem like a light drizzle!

Cheers to Their Bright Future

Now comes the pivotal moment where your words encapsulate the joy for their new journey together. Whether it’s a nugget of wisdom wrapped in wit or a simple toast celebrating their union – make sure it resonates with everyone present.

Your aim is to serve a cocktail of sincerity, humor, and wit that everyone will want to raise their glasses to! And remember – this is not just another scripted sequence of words. Rather it’s your heartfelt wishes transforming into a tangible toast towards their happily-ever-after!

Stringing Along Everyone’s Hearts

Your narrative should be like a stream flowing through the valleys of emotions – trickling sentiment here, cascading laughter there. Keep it genuine, relatable even while traversing mushy terrains.

Emotions are contagious – when you speak from heart everyone tunes into your frequency (yes, even stoic Uncle Bob). A well-crafted speech doesn’t feel like rhetoric but rather an intimate conversation dripping with sincerity which turns any function hall into a cozy fireside chat room!

Ready now? Good! Because next we’re diving into some real-life examples!

Example snippet 1: “My dearest brother, I still cherish the moments when we were kids and dreamed of our futures, sitting atop our treehouse. Look at you now, stepping into your future with your partner under the canopy of love. As you both embark on this wonderful journey of togetherness, my eyes well up with pride and my heart beats with joy. May you continue to color each other’s lives with love, laughter and countless shared pizzas!”

Example snippet 2: “Watching my brother standing here, hand in hand with his beloved partner, my heart swells with happiness. Over the years, I’ve seen you grow into a caring individual who cherishes the worth of love and companionship; evident in your loyalty towards your friendships and now your commitment towards marital bliss. Here’s to the two of you – may your life together be filled with endless joy, boundless love, and countless adventures!”

Example snippet 3: “I could spend hours quoting philosophers or romcom lines about marriages and their secret recipes but seeing my baby brother turn into this loving man holding his wife’s hands tells me all there is to know about love– It’s about growing together and becoming the best version of yourselves for each other! To my brother and his amazing wife who make us believe in fairy tales – here’s to a life filled with blissful mornings, lovers’ dusk dances, heartwarming cuddles during reruns – a life only dreams are made of!”

Harnessing the Power of Real-Life Examples: From Draft to Delivery

Alright folks, hold onto your notepads, because now we’re diving into the realm of real-world inspiration! Because what good is all this theory without a dash of practicality splashed onto the canvas, right?

1. Emotionally Charged & Sincere:

“Ladies and Gentlemen, family, friends, honored guests – some as old as the cherished dreams we used to build in our backyard house, others as fresh as the dewy dawn of this blessed day; a very warm welcome to you all! We are gathered here today to celebrate the union of my little brother and his dearest partner.

Growing up with Steven was like a roller coaster ride at our favorite amusement park. My life’s been filled with thrills – some horrors too (like that disastrous attempt at baking mom’s birthday cake). But amidst these belly laughs and bittersweet moments, blossomed a bond that is hard to express in words. Today, I’ve been given the honor to try.

From fishing in make-believe streams made out of bedsheets and sofa cushions to spotting constellations through our makeshift toilet-paper-roll telescope- we have sailed through an ocean of memories together. But seeing him today right next to his beautiful partner, I realize my baby brother has embarked on a new adventure — one where he’s not just a protective sibling but also a loving partner.

There is power in unity. It’s undeniable! Seeing my brother standing here today, hand in hand with his partner radiates a testament of that power.

True love might be shared glances across crowded rooms or soulful conversations amidst life’s chaos – but Steven and his partner’s love story is delightfully different. They bumped into each other at one of our family-roster garage sales – him engrossed in an old comic book stack – her smitten by our grandma’s vintage purse collection. They chatted up about their shared interests and unknown to us all, sowed the seeds for this precious day!

Steven is more than just my brother – he’s been my guide through life’s labyrinth – always illuminating my path when darkness took hold. And now his life is illuminated by the love of his partner – loving heart and compassionate soul! Together, they radiate an incandescent glow far brighter than all the decorations around us!

Before this evening cascades into night’s embrace, I want to take a moment to wish both of you lovebirds from the bottom of my heart. May your journey together be filled with many amazing adventures; from mystery novels read under cozy blankets during thunderstorms to uncontrollable laughter provoked by inside jokes!

To both Steven and his wonderful partner – You two are made from stardust and carry magical galaxies within you. Step forward into this beautiful journey called marriage without any fear, for your souls are aligned perfectly under these celestial skies tonight!

So ladies and gentlemen — please raise your glasses high for who else could reflect such beautiful dusks but two harmonizing suns? Here’s to Steven and his partner: ‘May every chapter of your life sparkle dazzlingly under moonlit skies; infusing every shared sunrise with hues of love!'”

2. Humorous & Light-Hearted:

“Ladies, gentlemen, and that always famished cousin Johnny, boy do I have stories to tell you today! Y’all better heed ’cause next time around it might get published as a blockbuster book about the mysterious adventures of my brother – hereafter known as Mr. Finally-tied-the-knot!

So, welcome one and all to the fireworks display of embarrassing anecdotes that reveal the legend behind our dear groom, my accidental partner in many childhood crimes – Mike. I don’t look old enough to take this honored guest down memory lane but trust me I’ve got wisdom stemming from years of his constant pranks!

Growing up with Mike can be compared to living inside an animated sitcom. Unpredictable, wild, and running on clear honey-dew sugar rushes! Remember how at cousin Sally’s wedding he sneaked extra chocolate cake claiming it was for grandma? Or when he ran around our backyard screaming about alien invasions?

And who would’ve thought that this delightful mayhem creator would end up taming chaos himself when he met his beloved partner? Their first encounter involved tripping over each other at a charity marathon event, no less. They fell (both literally and in love), amidst shoes flying off and heartbeats playing sonic symphonies! It resembles ‘kismet written with banana peels’!

Seeing him here today, brimming with joy alongside his partner, drives me towards borderline sappiness. I mean, ask yourselves folks, how did this Godzilla-loving dinosaur-imitating whirlwind find his perfect calm voice amidst life’s noisy storm?

Before I dunk myself in mushy sentiment though let’s not forget the purpose of today’s congregation: to challenge our collective tear ducks. Therefore ladies and gentlemen clutch your tissues close because it’s time for me to speak the unthinkable – yes it’s heartfelt wish hour!

To Mike and his amazing partner – You’ve got a wonderful ride ahead of you – A roller coaster featuring gravity-defying climbs moving into heart-stopping dips against breathtaking landscapes (Oh and probably some corn dogs at pit stops!). May your bond strengthen with every twist and turn on this fantastic roller coaster called marriage!

Now if everyone can do me a favor and lift their glasses high – hold it steady folks – we’re not performing an impromptu workout session here! To Mike & his partner – Here’s wishing your love story is filled with cat memes, viral TikToks, spontaneous kitchen dances and countless lazy Sunday afternoons binging shows togther. Stay adventurous guys; after all falling in love is the greatest adventure of them all!”

3. Thoughtful & Nostalgic:

“Beloved friends and family, lend me your ears. You see, today we gather under this canopy not just for the exchanging of vows but to bear witness to the harmony of two souls – a symphony I’ve been fortunate to hear since the first notes played.

The boy in question is no other than my mischievous partner-in-crime, my butt-of-all-jokes brother, and the sharer of too-many-to-count Friday pizzas. The man – an endearing head-over-heels-in-love groom standing next to his radiant bride!

Life with my juvenile co-conspirator, also known as Joe, fostered a wagonload of dramatic reminiscences. It twines around tree climbing lesser-knowns chasing forest mysteries or our dramatic way-too-loud radio plays that almost summoned law enforcement! Yes, he was brave enough to undertake all these thrill-loaded exploits and bold enough now to plunge into the captivating nuptial journey!

In walked this angel into his life during a regular match day when he was more fascinated by stats than surrounding spectators (My brother – the only creature who calculated soccer stats amidst roaring cheers!). This event spun his world off its axis – and suddenly his sizeable universe started revolving around their shared love for travelogues and obscure indy bands.

Standing here today watching Joe look at his partner with eyes sparkling brighter than the moon’s glimmer against a dark night sky brings an emotional tidal wave crashing over me.

Now comes the part where I get to shower these radiant faces with best wishes before crying those proud sibling tears!

To Joe & his partner – It’s a new chapter opening up in your life’s enchanting novel. May it be bound by trust, every page overflow with passionate love letters sealed with cherished memories of shared laughter echoing soothing heartbeats. Turn each page together hand in hand unwavering in belief that even tempest ridden chapters can nurture blossoming growth!

Raise your glasses everyone; let’s pour our collective good vibes into this heartfelt cheer. Let’s toast towards Joe’s leap from intense soccer stats debates towards dispelling middle-of-the-night screams from nursery nightmares. And may your married movie be an adventurous rom-com sprinkled heavily with popcorn dates reading unsurprising climaxes of ‘And they lived happily ever after!’ Here’s looking at you champ!”

Wrapping it Up

From the enticing introduction to nostalgic narratives, from hilarious inside stories to emotional roller coasters, we’ve had quite a journey through the craft of sibling wedding speeches! It’s been a word-fest garnished with hearty laughs, sprinkled with tear-jerking moments, and seasoned heavily with valuable tips.

Your very own playbook for drafting a heart-tugging wedding speech is served folks! Keep these pointers handy as you sit down to journey back in time. You’re not just penning down words, you’re crafting memories that will bloom smiles every time they revisit this precious day!

And don’t forget – who better than you to turn the magic reel of your brotherly bond into a heartwarming motion picture! Good luck dear sibling speech-crafter – may your pen turn mightier than cupids’ arrow creating imprints on hearts for keeps!

Table of Contents

As you probably know, there are more than one type of wedding.

Here are some of the most popular types you can include in your stories.

Traditional Wedding

A traditional wedding is steeped in customs and rituals that have been passed down through generations

These weddings often take place in religious settings, with formal attire and a solemn atmosphere. The bride walks down the aisle accompanied by her father, while the groom waits at the altar.

Vows are exchanged, rings are placed on fingers, and the couple shares their first kiss as married partners.

Beach Wedding

Imagine saying “I do” with toes buried in the warm sand and waves crashing gently in the background.

A beach wedding is casual yet breathtakingly beautiful. Delicate seashell decorations line an arch under which the newlyweds stand for their vows. Sun-kissed guests can enjoy a relaxed celebration adorned with tropical flowers and soft music floating through the salty air.

Garden Wedding

In a garden wedding, nature becomes an enchanting backdrop for love to unfold.

Surrounded by blooming flowers and lush greenery, couples exchange vows under an elaborately decorated archway or rose-covered gazebo. The natural serenity of chirping birds adds charm to this intimate affair as guests bask in a whimsical atmosphere created by twinkling fairy lights strung between trees.

Destination Wedding

Destination weddings are celebrations held in a location away from the couple’s hometown, often in exotic or scenic places.

They offer a unique opportunity for couples to exchange vows in a memorable setting, from historic European castles to tropical Caribbean beaches. These weddings can also provide an exciting travel experience for guests.

Cultural Wedding

Cultural weddings celebrate the unique traditions and customs of a couple’s heritage.

These ceremonies are often rich in rituals that honor the couple’s cultural background, whether it be an Asian, African, Middle Eastern, or another heritage. Cultural weddings are a beautiful display of heritage, often featuring traditional attire, music, and ceremonies.

Modern Wedding

Modern weddings break away from traditional norms and often incorporate contemporary elements.

They may feature non-traditional venues, personalized vows, and modern decor. Technology, unique themes, and a more relaxed approach to planning characterize these weddings. Modern weddings reflect the couple’s personality and contemporary lifestyle.

Vintage Wedding

Vintage weddings are inspired by elements from a specific era in the past, like the Roaring Twenties or the Victorian period.

These weddings often feature antique-style decor, classic vehicles, and attire that reflects the chosen time period. Vintage weddings are perfect for couples who appreciate the charm and elegance of bygone eras.

Rustic Wedding

Rustic weddings are characterized by their natural, simple, and countryside-inspired elements.

They often take place in rural settings like barns, farms, or vineyards.

Decor includes natural textures like wood and burlap, and the ambiance is cozy and down-to-earth, reflecting a love for the rustic, outdoor charm.

Eco-Friendly Wedding

Eco-friendly weddings focus on sustainability and minimizing the environmental impact of the celebration.

These weddings use eco-conscious materials, local and organic food, and natural decor. Eco-friendly weddings are perfect for environmentally conscious couples who want to celebrate their love while respecting nature.

An elopement is a small, intimate wedding, often involving only the couple, a witness, and an officiant.

Elopements focus on the couple’s commitment without the extensive planning or guest list of a traditional wedding.

They can be spontaneous or planned and often occur in unique or meaningful locations to the couple.

How to Describe Traditional Weddings

Let’s start with how to describe the most common type of wedding.

Elements of Traditional Weddings

Traditional weddings are steeped in rich cultural and religious customs, each with their own unique elements.

These ceremonies often begin with a formal procession, where the bride is escorted down the aisle by her father or another significant family member.

The guests eagerly await her arrival, standing respectfully as she walks towards the altar.

Once at the altar, traditional weddings typically include a heartfelt exchange of vows between the bride and groom.

This deeply personal moment allows them to publicly declare their commitment and love for one another.

Following this emotional exchange, rings are exchanged as symbols of eternal unity and devotion.

After the exchange of rings comes one of the most iconic moments in a traditional wedding: the first kiss as a married couple.

This simple gesture signifies not only their union but also serves as an expression of love and affection witnessed by all those present.

Cultural Customs

Beyond these universal traditions, many cultural nuances can be observed at traditional weddings.

From vibrant Indian ceremonies filled with colorful attire and intricate rituals to elegant Chinese tea ceremonies symbolizing respect for elders – there is no shortage of diversity in how unions are celebrated around the world.

Some cultures emphasize specific customs such as breaking glass (a Jewish tradition) or exchanging leis (a Hawaiian custom), adding depth and meaning to these once-in-a-lifetime events.

Regardless of location or religion, traditional weddings consistently offer moments that celebrate love while showcasing individuality through various cultural practices.

Weddings are filled with a rollercoaster of emotions.

As the couple takes their vows, joy and excitement radiate from their faces.

The guests can’t help but smile as they witness this celebration of love.

Tears glisten in the eyes of parents as they give away their child to a new life partner. A feeling of nostalgia is met with hope for the newlyweds’ future.

Vows are promises made by the couple to each other, spoken from the heart.

They declare their unconditional love, devotion, and commitment. These words carry immense emotional weight and have been passed down through generations as a timeless tradition.

The Wedding Traditions

Weddings are steeped in tradition, bringing together customs and rituals from various cultures around the world.

These traditions add depth and meaning to a wedding ceremony, making it a memorable event for all involved.

Here are a few common wedding traditions you might want to describe:

  • The White Dress : A popular tradition in Western weddings is for the bride to wear a white dress. Symbolizing purity and innocence, this tradition dates back centuries.
  • The Procession : At the start of the ceremony, the bridal party walks down the aisle in a specific order, with each member playing an important role. This procession sets the stage for the bride’s grand entrance.
  • Exchanging Rings : During this pivotal moment in any wedding ceremony, couples exchange rings that symbolize their love and eternal unity.

These wedding traditions may vary depending on cultural or religious backgrounds but serve as beautiful reminders of love and celebration.

The Wedding Photographs & Video

Capturing the essence of a wedding day, photographs and videos provide lasting memories for couples and their families

A skilled photographer will document each precious moment – from the bride getting ready to the exchanging of vows and the heartfelt speeches at the reception.

These visual mementos freeze time, allowing everyone to relive the joyous occasion for years to come.

Images crafted with expertise can showcase both candid moments – like giddy laughter and heartfelt embraces – as well as carefully posed shots that emphasize the beauty of the venue, decorations, and attire.

By incorporating various angles, lighting techniques, and artistic perspectives, photographers create a visually stunning narrative that tells the unique story of every couple’s big day.

Videos capture not only still shots but also movement, voices, music, and genuine emotions in real-time.

Skillful videographers fuse these elements together to create a seamless cinematic experience.

Through clever editing techniques that synchronize visuals with audio snippets such as vows or speeches, they craft an emotional journey that elicits tears of happiness when watched later.

Photographs are often given pride of place on mantelpieces or adorning walls in albums which bring back cherished memories whenever they’re opened.

Videos offer a more immersive experience by letting viewers rewatch every step down memory lane during anniversaries or family gatherings.

Think about how to describe the photographer, videographer, and their actions during the ceremony.

Here are examples of how to describe the wedding photos and video:

  • The photographer captured candid moments of laughter and tears.
  • The videographer recorded the exchange of vows for posterity.
  • Group shots froze memories of the bridal party’s joy.
  • A drone soared to capture stunning aerial views of the ceremony.
  • The couple posed against a breathtaking sunset backdrop.
  • Close-ups highlighted the intricate details of the wedding attire.
  • The photo booth churned out snapshots of guests’ merriment.
  • The slideshow played a montage of the couple’s journey together.
  • The photo album told the story of their special day.
  • The video montage edited together the most touching moments.

Writing Wedding Dialogue: Conversations and Speeches

Wedding conversations are filled with joy, anticipation, and a touch of nerves.

As guests mingle before the ceremony, their enthusiastic chatter fills the air.

  • Couples in love can be heard whispering tender words to each other as they exchange vows.
  • Family members excitedly discuss seating arrangements while trying to dodge last-minute mishaps.
  • Friends share heartfelt anecdotes during speeches that bring tears of joy to everyone’s eyes.

The dialogue at a wedding is brimming with emotion and serves as an important tool for telling the story.

It can reveal characters’ relationships, showcase their personalities, and provide insight into their thoughts and feelings on this momentous occasion.

In a well-crafted wedding scene, conversations flow naturally, reflecting the excitement in the air.

Dialogues capture both intimate exchanges between loved ones and larger group interactions that create a warm atmosphere for all attendees. From whispered confessions to humorous banter during speeches, every conversation adds depth and color to the narrative tapestry of describing a wedding in a story.

Examples of Wedding Dialogue:

  • Guests gushed about the beauty of the ceremony.
  • The couple’s gratitude and love shone through their words.

The Reception: Food, Decor, and Entertainment

One of the most important elements of a wedding to describe is the reception.

You might want to talk about the food, decor, and entertainment.

Here is an example:

The reception was a grand affair, filled with delectable food, exquisite decor, and lively entertainment.

As guests entered the venue, they were greeted by an elegant display of flowers that adorned every table.

The scent of succulent dishes wafted through the air as servers moved gracefully around the room. From tender steak to mouthwatering seafood, there was something for everyone’s tastes. Guests indulged in a delightful feast that left them craving for more.

A live band played enchanting melodies throughout the evening, creating an atmosphere of joy and celebration.

How to Describe Modern Weddings: Capturing the Essence of Contemporary Celebrations

Wedding ceremonies and celebrations have transformed significantly in recent times.

Here’s a glimpse into describing modern weddings:

  • Non-traditional settings: Modern couples are stepping away from conventional venues like churches or banquet halls, opting for unique locations such as vineyards, rooftops, or even private homes.
  • Personalized touches: Today’s weddings often showcase personalization through customized vows, creative themes that reflect the couple’s interests and passions, and interactive elements like photo booths or food stations.
  • Technology integration: In contemporary weddings, technology plays a significant role – digital save-the-dates and invitations are sent via email or social media platforms; live streaming allows distant loved ones to participate virtually; drones capture stunning aerial shots of the ceremony.

How to Describe Destination Weddings: Describing the Magic of Exotic Locations

Destination weddings offer couples a unique opportunity to exchange vows in breathtaking locations around the world.

  • Captivating landscapes : Imagine standing on a pristine beach, with soft white sands slipping between your toes and crystal-clear turquoise waters stretching to the horizon. Set against such a picturesque backdrop, destination weddings allow couples to create unforgettable memories surrounded by nature’s beauty.
  • Cultural immersion : From historic castles in Europe to vibrant temples in Asia, exotic destinations provide an immersive experience into different cultures and traditions. Guests can explore local customs, taste authentic cuisine, and partake in traditional activities that make their attendance at the wedding even more meaningful.
  • Intimate celebrations : By opting for a destination wedding, couples often prioritize intimacy over grandeur. The smaller guest list fosters quality time with loved ones and encourages deeper connections among attendees. Instead of an overwhelming ballroom affair, these weddings exude warmth as they become cherished shared experiences.

Whether it’s exchanging vows on top of a breathtaking mountain peak or amidst ancient ruins steeped in history, describing the magic of exotic locations brings life to destination weddings’ allure and romance without being repetitive or overly elaborate.

  • The couple exchanged vows under a tropical canopy.

How to Describe Intimate Weddings: Portraying the Beauty of Small Gatherings

Intimate weddings possess a captivating allure, filled with an abundance of close-knit emotions and tender moments.

  • In these intimate gatherings, love dances gracefully in each corner as only the dearest ones come together to celebrate.
  • The atmosphere is enveloped in warmth and closeness, creating an unmistakable sense of intimacy that flows effortlessly through every interaction.
  • These small-scale weddings paint a picture of serene elegance, where the focus lies solely on genuine connections rather than extravagant displays.

Capturing the essence of an intimate wedding requires weaving words delicately to evoke feelings of cherished intimacy and tranquility.

  • Emphasize Meaningful Connections : Highlight how intimate weddings reflect deep bonds among loved ones who have gathered from near and far.
  • Create a Sense of Serenity : Mention the calm ambiance that pervades these gatherings, allowing couples to exchange heartfelt vows in tranquil settings.
  • Celebrate Personal Touches : Acknowledge how smaller guest lists enable couples to infuse personalized elements into every aspect – from decor to cuisine – ensuring their wedding truly becomes a reflection of their unique love story.

How to Describe Grand Weddings: Depicting the Extravagance and Opulence

When describing a grand wedding, it is important to vividly capture the extravagance and opulence that surrounds such an event.

Use sensory details to engage readers in the luxurious atmosphere.

Describe the lavish decorations adorning every corner of the venue – from cascading floral arrangements to shimmering chandeliers, painting a picture of wealth and beauty.

Highlight the grandeur of the bride’s attire – her exquisite gown adorned with intricate lacework and sparkling jewels.

Mention how each step she takes evokes elegance, accompanied by a subtle rustle of layers upon layers of silk fabric.

Discuss the groom’s stylish tuxedo, tailored impeccably to fit him like a second skin.

The readers should feel transported into this world through your words – enticed by the rich aromas wafting from tables embellished with silverware, crystal glasses, and delicate china plates.

Let them imagine savoring delectable courses prepared by renowned chefs serving culinary masterpieces on gleaming platters.

The ambience should be further emphasized through descriptions of live music played by talented musicians filling every corner with melodies that make hearts swoon. Paint a visual image of guests gliding across marble dance floors in perfect harmony as they celebrate love beneath dazzling lights that twinkle like stars.

Overall, evoke emotions such as awe and enchantment using eloquent language combined with detailed descriptions when depicting these extravagant weddings.

  • The venue was a grand palace with crystal chandeliers.

  • An extravagant fireworks display lit up the night sky.
  • The menu featured gourmet delicacies from around the world.
  • The reception hall was transformed into a fairy tale ballroom.
  • Every detail, from the invitations to the linens, exuded opulence.

How to Describe Outdoor Weddings

Outdoor weddings offer a unique blend of natural beauty and romantic ambiance.

They allow couples to exchange their vows under the open sky, amidst the splendor of nature.

Whether it’s a serene beachfront, a majestic mountain view, or the rustic charm of a countryside setting, outdoor weddings provide a picturesque canvas for your special day.

Here is an example to spark your creativity:

The sun casts its golden rays upon the meticulously manicured garden, enhancing the vivid hues of wildflowers that adorn every corner.

The gentle breeze carries with it a symphony of fragrances, mingling the sweet scent of blossoms and fresh grass.

As guests gather on elegant white chairs set amidst nature’s lush carpet, they are embraced by a picturesque backdrop of towering trees and rolling hills. Beyond the wedding altar constructed from intertwining vines and delicate blooms, a tranquil pond reflects the azure sky overhead.

Graceful swans glide across its glassy surface as if performing their own enchanting dance to celebrate this joyous union.

Sparkling fairy lights twinkle in harmony with nature’s own starry canopy as twilight slowly envelops the scene.

Guests indulge their senses further during an exquisite farm-to-table feast using locally-sourced ingredients—vibrant greens picked straight from nearby fields, succulent fruits plucked at perfect ripeness, and tender meat seasoned softly with herbs grown right here—a gastronomic journey designed to reflect not only love but also reverence for Mother Earth herself.

How to Describe Unique Weddings: Showcasing Unconventional Celebrations

Unique weddings are a delightful way to celebrate love, filled with unexpected and refreshing elements.

From the venue to the rituals, these unconventional celebrations create lasting memories for both couples and guests.

  • Location : Instead of traditional venues like banquet halls or churches, unique weddings may take place in breathtaking settings such as lush gardens, rustic barns, or even on a mountaintop. The location sets the stage for an enchanting experience that captures the couple’s personalities and passions.
  • Themes and Decor : Unlike conventional weddings, unique celebrations often embrace creative themes that reflect who the couple is as individuals. Whether it’s a vintage carnival theme complete with cotton candy machines or an elegant masquerade ball with extravagant masks adorning every table setting, these wedding decors tell stories that transport guests to another world.
  • Ceremony Traditions : Instead of following traditional ceremonies step by step, unique weddings may incorporate custom rituals inspired by different cultures or personal beliefs. It could be a handfasting ceremony symbolizing unity through binding hands with ribbons or exchanging personalized vows while their favorite song plays softly in the background.

Examples of Describing Unique Weddings:

  • The wedding was held in a historic, converted barn.

Genre-specific Wedding Descriptions: Romance, Comedy, Drama

I thought I’d add these genre-specific examples of how to describe a wedding in writing.

Romance Genre Wedding Description

The romantic ballroom buzzed with anticipation. Soft candlelight danced on the walls, as the bride descended the grand staircase in her ivory gown adorned with delicate lace. The groom stood at the altar, his eyes shimmering with love and excitement.

The ceremony began amidst a symphony of heartfelt vows and whispered promises. Tears flowed freely as guests witnessed these two souls unite in eternal devotion. Love filled every corner of the room, wrapping everyone in its warm embrace.

Following the “I dos,” old friends and new acquaintances mingled over glasses of champagne, creating an atmosphere charged with laughter and joy. As day turned into night, couples swayed to dreamy melodies under a canopy of stars, celebrating true love that would endure for all eternity.

Comedy Genre Wedding Description

Bob’s wedding was far from ordinary – it was hilariously chaotic! Right from the start, everything went wrong: flower girls tripped over their oversized skirts while ring bearers ran off chasing butterflies!

Even during the vows, mishaps ensued – Bob clumsily mispronounced his wife’s name causing an eruption of giggles throughout the crowd.

But instead of fretting about perfection, they embraced these humorous moments wholeheartedly.

As evening fell, astounding dance moves took center stage as grandmas outshined professional dancers and uncles showcased never-before-seen disco skills. It was an uproarious celebration that left everyone rolling on the floor laughing – certainly a memorable event for years to come!

Drama Genre Wedding Description

In a dimly lit cathedral shrouded in mystery and melancholy, Sarah walked down an aisle lined with somber faces dressed in black attire. Bride and groom exchanged solemn glances while exchanging vows laden with both hope and sorrow.

Intense emotions crackled through every heartbeat as whispers echoed around them like distant thunder.

Each word spoken seemed suspended in time as if carrying within it not just their future but also the weight of past mistakes and lost opportunities.

The day unfolded with an air of melancholy splendor, every gesture heavy with symbolism. It was a wedding that vividly portrayed the complexities of human existence – a celebration not just of love but also of life’s profound mysteries.

brother wedding speech groom

The groom’s brother is arguably the assistant groom and his speech can last ten minutes or less. It is also fine that the speech comes up last after dinner or while it is going on. The best brother’s wedding speech is special because it is the time to tell all your drunken stories and share anecdotes.

How To Write The Brother’s Speech At A Wedding

  • Personalize your speech The brother’s speech at the wedding must be personalized because you know your brother more than most. Everything you say should be authentic, meaningful, and relatable to your brother. No generic or cliché words because that would be making a mockery of your relationship.
  • Organize your thoughts Always create an outline that works for your entire speech. Don’t wing it or get so spontaneous that your speech starts sounding incoherent. Regardless of the tone, keep your thoughts curated.
  • Do thorough practice Practice every time until you are very confident in your speech. Consistent practice will help you fish out errors and sappy talks while solidifying the tone. Also, it will be beautiful if you can give a speech about your brother off-heart. However, not everyone is good at memorizing, so you can take a speech card with you.
  • Break the ice Make sure to include some funny jokes or punchy one-liners that will break the ice and get guests to relax.
  • Write and edit Write down your speech early enough, edit it to perfection, and print or save it. Don’t leave this task until the last minute.

The Best Brother Wedding Speech Outline

  • Introduce yourself Whether you are giving a brother speech for your sister’s wedding or your brother’s, you must start by introducing yourself. The guests must know your name and your affiliation with the groom or bride.
  • Welcome guests and newlyweds If you are the first in line to speak, welcome everyone immediately as they take their seats. Also, welcome the newlyweds and talk about your excitement witnessing the wedding.
  • Share some stories about the bride/groom Share beautiful stories about the couple, especially the half whose sibling you are. Gather stories from your childhood, especially if he or she was a playful and happy child. You can also chip in his funny quirks and habits as an adult. Say some reasons why he or she is a great person and how much you love them.
  • Say some words about the new spouse Don’t forget to serenade the new spouse because that’s one of the ways to make your sibling happy. Welcome them officially into your family and tell how enthusiastic you are to nurture your relationship.
  • Wish something to a couple or give an advice Say some prayers and wishes for the couple. You can also give them some potent advice especially if you have been married for a while.
  • End with a toast Raise your glass together with the guests and toast to the couple.

Wedding Speech Tips: How To Give

  • Please stay sober It is a day of joy and fun, but you don’t want to break your brother’s heart by acting weird or slurring your speech. So lay easy on the drinks.
  • Be yourself Go all out but be in control. Also, be as authentic as possible because that is what will appeal to the guests.
  • Show some emotion It is okay to feel mushy and sentimental. Show it and let your love shine through your eyes, but don’t go overboard.
  • Say a joke Tell a joke which could be personal or about your brother. Ensure it is decent and don’t share inside jokes or private information.
  • Measure your tone Your speech will come last when the guests are probably tired and over it. Keep your tone lively and upbeat. This will make the guests perk up.

What Not To Say

  • No exes Leave the exes in the past and don’t mention them even as a reference. You don’t want to ruin your brothers or sisters’ thoughts with what might have been.
  • No politics You don’t know the affiliation of every guest sitting in the audience, so to avoid ruffling feathers, don’t talk about politics. Not even as a joke.
  • No negative point of view or prediction about marriage If you don’t believe in marriage or there are so many divorces, keep it to yourself. Speak happily, say happy, and only be positive.
  • No inside jokes Keep the inside jokes for close family. Don’t tell jokes that guests will struggle to understand.
  • No sexual talk Leave the men’s talk for the bar or club. Don’t bring sexual talks, no matter how subtle, to the wedding.

The bond between siblings is irreplaceable; it is a unique blend of love, camaraderie, trust, and mischief. As your brother grows older and starts going through life’s milestones like marriage, take a moment to reflect on your relationship and show them your appreciation.

Writing a letter for your brother on his wedding day can encapsulate all your well-wishes for him. This letter is also a great way to share any piece of advice you may have. You are also welcome to share any emotion and sentiment you have.

Below are five examples of letters for your brother and two templates to help you write an original one for his wedding.

Letter to Brother on Wedding Day: Touching Examples

1. Dear Josh,

Time flies, huh? It feels just like yesterday when we watched Toy Story, begged our parents to buy us all the toys from the movie, and played with them nonstop once Mom bought them.

Today, in less than a few hours, you will get married to the love of your life. I’m thrilled for you, baby bro!

It’s been a few years since you introduced Caroline to us. I remember clearly how that dinner went; it was so endearing to see both of you nervous and fidgeting. We loved her from the start, though. It was easy to see why you were so enamored—she’s gorgeous, smart, kind, and super funny.

Your wedding is not simply a union of soulmates; it’s also a celebration of your love, partnership, trust, and strength. I know the journey to get to this day was not easy—I know the stress of wedding planning all too well—but believe me when I say that it has made you more resilient as a couple.

Speaking of resilience, I have always admired you guys’ ability to navigate the ups and downs of life with grace and humor. It’s amazing how unwavering your kindness, courage, and empathy are. As you and Caroline tie the knot, I know these qualities will make for a happy, healthy, and fulfilling marriage.

I am so excited to see what the future holds for you! Whatever happens, may this future be filled with joy, growth, and endless love. Remember that marriage is a commitment; you have to nourish it and actively work on it every day for the rest of your life. I have full confidence in the two of you.

Sending you the tightest hugs, warmest love, and loudest cheers!

Fondly yours,

2. Hey Bro,

Today’s the day! It’s surreal—but in the best way possible—that in a few hours, you’ll be saying “I do” to the love of your life (Yes, I know that’s her contact name on your phone. You think you’re so slick, but you’re smiling at your phone like a lovesick teenager 24/7!)

Kidding aside, I’m so stoked to see you stepping into this new chapter. It feels just like yesterday when we were planning elaborate pranks on our sisters and hiding in our room so we don’t get caught.

You and Claire are the real deal. The way you two support each other, laugh at each other’s jokes even if they are corny as hell, and get each other’s vibes effortlessly is truly something out of a rom-com.

You remind me of Jake and Amy from Brooklyn Nine-Nine, honestly. You’ve found your soulmate, your better half, and the peanut butter to your jelly. Seeing you so happy and in love is an awesome feeling. As your brother, even if I tease you endlessly, I want nothing but the best for you.

Later, you will take on the world as the most badass married couple to ever walk this earth. Know that I’m proud of the man that you’ve become: a man with a heart of gold, a soul that lights up the room, and a bank account that needs a facelift (just kidding…).

Remember: no matter what life throws your way, just hold each other’s hand and take a deep breath. You’ve got each other’s backs, and you have your families’ full support.

With all my love,

handwritten letter with pink flowers and ribbon

3. To My Dear Brother,

As I sit here in my suite on the eve of your wedding, I can’t help but feel a wave of emotions envelop my heart. Thinking of my little brother stepping into the realm of love and commitment brings me a lot of joy. On this day, I also can’t help but feel a bit nostalgic.

Watching you grow up has been one of the biggest pleasures of my life. Over the years, you have become my best friend, confidant, and insider source of gossip when I’m not around. Looking back, every moment is precious—even the times when we’d fight over who gets to use the bathroom first or who ate whose chocolates in the fridge.

Today, as you stand on the precipice of married life, I feel an overwhelming sense of pride.

Seeing the love, mutual respect, and understanding between you and Michelle is a testament to the beautiful journey ahead of you. Your love has been strengthened and become wiser because of the years and challenges behind you.

As you exchange vows tomorrow, I pray that you achieve the life of your dreams. May it be filled with the same love, mutual respect, and understanding you’ve fostered over the years, and may these qualities only grow stronger. May every day of the rest of your lives give you a reason to keep smiling, stay kind, and continue loving.

Michelle, I’m beyond thrilled to officially and legally welcome you to our family! I know Mom is excited to have a daughter-in-law as passionate and compassionate as you.

As you prepare to create new memories together as a married couple, never forget that you are loved, cherished, and supported.

Congratulations, Michelle and Lucas! Here’s to forever.

4. Hey Brother,

It’s your wedding day! Can you hear me cheering and opening a bottle of beer in honor of your big day?

It’s been incredible watching both of you grow as individuals. Over the years, you have matured holistically. You’re more responsible with your money, you take care of yourself more, and your communication has become healthier. This is all wonderful, as the adventure starts today for you and Lana!

Before entering this new chapter of your life, I want to remind you of one thing: you will always have our love and support. The road ahead can be intimidating and overwhelming, but you and Lana are not alone in this. We’re all only one call away.

Here’s to a lifetime of good luck, better fortune, and the best memories! See you at the altar, brother!

5. Dear Clay,

You must feel so excited and thrilled to be standing on the precipice of such a major milestone. My heart swells with love and joy for you. You and Ashton have created a life of love, trust, and understanding, and these will make your marriage even healthier and stronger.

Above all, I’ve never seen you happier than whenever you’re with Ashton. As your brother, that is all I can ask for.

Clay, thank you for being my childhood companion, confidant, and best friend. You truly were the best older brother anyone could ever wish for. Thank you for the honor of being your best man, too.

As you cement your bond tomorrow, know that you are loved and supported immensely. You have a full community rooting for you.

I pray that the days ahead are beautiful and fulfilling, letting you create bright memories you can look back on in the years to come. Here’s to a lifetime of love, tears of laughter, and unbridled joy!

With all the love in the world,

Essay on My Brother’s wedding

my brother wedding essay

Last month I went with my family to attend my cousin brother’s wedding. The venue was looking beautiful with flowers and lights everywhere. All arrangements had been made. all of us were very excited and came dressed in lovely clothes. Light instrumental music was being played. My brother wore a smart suit and a tie. He was looking very handsome.

In the wedding hall, I sat next to my mother. After sometime the bride came. She was looking very pretty. Her white gown made her look like an angel. She was carrying a big bouquet of flowers in her hands.

After the wedding ceremony, the food was served. My brother and his bride sat with us to eat. After lunch, we bid them goodbye and returned home.

Essay About Brothers: Top 5 Examples and 8 Prompts

S ee this article for samples and prompts to help you write an essay about brothers.

Most people would imagine a male relative with the same parent or parents as you when they hear the word “brother.” However, “brother” can also refer to someone you’re very close with, who shares the same interests, and thinks like you.

Writing an essay about brothers can be challenging if you don’t have a male sibling. Don’t worry. It’s perfectly fine to get inspiration from essays and other literary pieces you can find.

Below are samples you can read to assist you in writing an essay about “brother.”

1. My Brother Essay by User Era

2. he’s my brother by alexandra of metairie, louisiana, 3. the day i met my little brother by symone mc collum, 4. losing my brother essay by writer jill, 5. personal essay on my twin brother by luke peretti, 1. my brother, 2. fondest memories of my brother, 3. my unique language with my brother, 4. what i want for my brother, 5. the worst things about my brother, 6. when i have a brother…, 7. why he’s my brother, 8. when i become a brother.

“The relationship between my brother and me is deep and special. It only grows stronger with time. There are occasional fights and arguments. But at the end of the day, Kevin and I are always looking after each other.”

In this short essay, the author describes her brother’s personality and hobbies and how he’s such a wonderful person. She acknowledges that they sometimes argue and fight, but at the end of the day, she considers him her hero and forever companion.

“I believe that siblings are the best addition to life. Without a doubt, siblings can be annoying and petty, but with all of the bickering and not so witty banter, they love with all their heart.”

Alexandra remembers the first time her parents took her baby brother home. She then details how her brother helped her connect with others, know how to compromise, and love someone else. Over the years, she realized that everything he taught her made her life more enjoyable.

“I used to think of disappointment as losing one of my Barbie dresses… But I realized that disappointment can stem from the person you love the most… I don’t dislike my little brother and sister till this day. They’re still my little superstars and I hope I can be a good enough big sister to them.”

Mc Collum starts her essay by narrating how much she wants to have a sibling. But, as an only child, she finds it lonely and boring. She then recounts the events of when her dad introduced her little brother to her as a surprise. She follows it by describing her mixed feelings about meeting the baby, mainly because her father already had another child with another woman.

Instead of focusing on her little brother, she shares her disappointment with her father. It took her some time, but she now accepts her younger siblings because they aren’t at fault for what their father did. Mc Collum concludes her essay by stating that she doesn’t want to be a victim and does her best to overcome her frustration with her father.

“For me, losing my brother almost three years ago still saddens me… Losing someone is hard to accept, remembering him is easy, I do it everyday.”

The writer shares her pain at how she lost her brother, best friend, and right hand due to an overdose. She tells of how much they spent time together and how he was always there to protect her.

She further explains how hard it is to move on when she remembers him every day and still wishes he was there with her. Her brother’s death made her try to make the best of everything and trust God.

“Having a twin brother is a blessing and a curse. He is always there for me and I always have a friend to talk to, but a majority of the time he pushes my buttons invades my personal space and gets on my nerves.”

Peretti discusses his thoughts on how he initially loved being a twin until it gradually took away his character because no one could tell him apart from his brother. It took him a while to realize that people only react the way they do because they don’t understand what he feels. They don’t have a twin, after all.

Peretti then strived to be a better person and embraced being a twin. He ends the essay by realizing his struggles with his brother made him the best version of himself.

8 Prompts To Consider

The following writing prompts can help you get started on your essay.

Are you anxious that your essay will fall short? Here are the best essay writing apps you can take advantage of to ensure you deliver an excellent essay.

The best thing about essays about brothers is you can write about your own brother and describe everything you love (or don’t love) about them! Describe his hobbies, interests, and personal appearance. Include personal anecdotes and fond memories in this essay for a fun and engaging read.

Essay About Brothers:: Fondest Memories Of My Brother

Recount something unforgettable such as when you two prank your parents or when you cover for each other to avoid getting scolded. Include what you felt during that time and how that event made your sibling bond stronger. Make sure to use descriptive and engaging language to immerse the reader in your experiences.

It’s not uncommon for siblings to have a secret language and mutual understanding of each other’s body language. List things that only the two know, such as a secret handshake or a code word. Then share with your readers how it came about.

This essay piece can focus on what you want your brother to be in the future. Describe your brother’s hope and dreams, and what you envision for his future. Perhaps you hope that he exceeds in his career, travels the world, or starts a family of his own. Describe this in detail, and write this essay to show your appreciation of your brother!

There are good things you can include when speaking about your brother, but it’s undeniable that there are times when he gets annoying. With this essay prompt, you can tell a story of when your brother irritated you the most and why. You can also add what you’ve learned after that incident, and how you moved forwards.

If you’re someone who doesn’t have a brother, you can imagine one for yourself. You can create an ideal brother and then explain to the readers why you want your brother to have the characteristics and personality you listed.

With this prompt, you’re free to write about anyone – blood-related or not. If you choose to talk about your blood-related brother, expand on why you consider him your brother aside from sharing the same blood. Meanwhile, you can talk about someone who’s not your kin but feels like one. Narrate your story on how you two became close and why you consider them a brother.

This prompt is perfect for anyone expecting or wanting to have a sibling in the future. What will you be as a brother? Describing how you’ll act like a brother and why is also a fascinating subject that can persuade your readers into thinking about what kind of sibling they are or will be.

500 words essay on a Wedding in the Family

my brother wedding essay

A celebration in a family gives pleasure to all the Members of the family. Friends and relatives also attend the occasion and share the pleasure. Pleasure multiplies when there is a wedding in the family. I drew immense pleasure when the marriage ceremony of my cousin was held. It was performed on 23rd of the last month.

We had not seen any marriage celebration in our family beforehand. My cousin was the first child to be married in the family. Her marriage was celebrated with great enthusiasm. Preparations for the marriage started one month before the celebration. My parents and my uncle and aunt spent a whole week making necessary purchases. The whole house was colour washed. The doors were republished. Our house looked like a bride. Many kinds of gold ornaments were bought for my cousin. Several clothes were also purchased for all the family members and relatives. My cousin herself chose clothes for her. Invitation cards were printed and were sent to friends and relatives.

There was a great excitement and joy among us to see the preparations for the wedding celebration in our family, Decorations were made on the day before the marriage ceremony. A shrine was prepared for the celebration. It was also decorated with paper flowers. The canopy above the shrine was made of coloured cloths. Another big canopy was put up in the open ground in front of our house. An electrician with his four assistants decorated the closed space with a number of multi-coloured electric lamps.

The space was meant for the marriage feast. Rows of tables were arranged on three sides. The tables were covered with white sheets of cloth. On one side chairs were arranged for the guests. Sweets were made and kept for the guests.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

The feast on the date of marriage was very delicious. My parents were very busy. My aunt and uncle were also terribly engaged in different works. Our relatives were making our house a noisy place. The ladies were busy with religious ceremonies. Two cooks were engaged to prepare the dinner for the guests and the bridegroom party members. Cold- drinks were ready. Large quantities of fresh fruits Were also arranged for the guests.

My father and uncle stood at the gate to receive the guests. The marriage party arrived at-seven in the evening-

First, the guests were served sweets and cold drinks. Many guests had brought different gifts for my cousin who was the bride. The marriage party members were very gentle. The groom was seated on a palanquin with thick garlands around his neck.

The marriage ceremony was held after the reception. The priest chanted sholkas from the Vedas. Many senior members including my parents and the parents of the groom were present at the time of the holy marriage on the shrine. The bride and the groom exchanged garlands and sacredly accepted each other as the partner of life.

We cried when my cousin parted with us and went to her new house.

“Brothers aren’t simply close; brothers are knit together”~ Robert Rivers.

Siblings are more like friends who never leave us alone. Most of us have a brother or a sister. The brother-sister bond is a special one. Even though they constantly argue, they share a deep friendship , and this friendship is the best thing one can ever ask for.

I have a younger brother. His name is Kevin, and he is 8 years old. He is a class 3 student of St. Paul school. He is an intelligent child who also excels in sports. Badminton is his favourite sport. He has won many medals in his school’s badminton championships. He is a jolly kid who is loved by everyone. After coming back from school, we both play together.

Our favourite indoor game is Carom. Evenings are always fun with him. His funny gestures make everyone happy. Being the youngest member of the family, he is the apple of everyone’s eyes. Kevin hardly gets angry. However, once a friend of mine was mocking me, and Kevin came to my rescue. That was an instance when he was furious.

My Brother Essay

His thoughtfulness makes him a wonderful person. He is the sweetest younger brother. I honestly cannot imagine growing up without him. Kevin has many friends. In school, he has always been popular.

However, he loves to spend time alone. At home, I would often catch him reading comic books. He also likes to draw cartoons. He loves to watch animated movies. Finding Nemo is his favourite movie.

His other hobbies include gardening. Kevin has always been a gentle kid. He has a caring personality. While watering the plants, he would often sing a lullaby. Besides this, he loves eating tasty food.

We always go to the nearby store and get ice creams. He also is a big fan of chocolates. The relationship between my brother and me is deep and special.

It only grows stronger with time. There are occasional fights and arguments. But at the end of the day, Kevin and I always look after each other. Having my little brother in my life is an amazing gift.

Being an older sister, I am responsible for his well-being. I try my best to keep him happy and positive. I love my brother. I wish he gets all the happiness he deserves and more. He is my hero.

Help! My Brother’s Fiancée Asked Me Not to Come to the Wedding. I Plan to Retaliate.

Bachelor party… here we come..

Dear Prudence is Slate’s advice column.  Submit questions here .

Dear Prudence,

My brother is marrying a woman who really doesn’t like me. The feeling is mutual. We normally just avoid each other. I recently received an invitation to their wedding for myself and a plus one. Shortly afterward, my future sister-in-law called to ask me not to come, as my presence would be a sour note on her special day. I would be happy to oblige but I like my brother and I know he would want me to be there and would be hurt if I wasn’t. I feel like she is outsourcing a conversation that she needs to have with him.

Would it be wrong of me to call my brother and simply tell him that she privately asked me not to attend their wedding and I intend to honor that request but that I would love to organize his stag? Or is that merely seeking conflict, particularly as my instinct is to take him to Vegas and bury him alive in cocaine and strippers?

—Well… You, Too

Absolutely tell him what his fiancée said. You two don’t like each other, so she’d be nuts to think that you would keep a secret on her behalf. And don’t jump so quickly to honor her request! He might ask you to be there, in which case, you should show up (with an agreed-upon backup plan for how you’ll handle it if the bride makes a scene).

But this is the part where I’m going to ask you to behave more maturely than you feel, and take the high road: Do not retaliate by offering to plan a debaucherous weekend that could put your brother’s relationship at risk. You’ll solidify your reputation as an enemy of their union, and potentially give her a real reason to dislike you. You might even irritate your brother, if he perceives that you’re not just celebrating him but actively hoping to erode his connection with the woman he loves. You don’t want that, especially if their marriage lasts a while or a lifetime. There are too many family holidays in your future. Attend the bachelor party but follow the lead of whoever’s organizing it, even if you spend the whole time secretly fantasizing about an annulment.

Give Prudie a Hand in “We’re Prudence”

Sometimes even Prudence needs a little help. This week’s tricky situation is below.  Submit your comments about how to approach the situation here  to Jenée, and then look back for the final answer  here  on Friday.

Dear Prudence, I’ve been married for over 30 years. My husband has been retired for six months. We’ve spent the last two years working out career/retirement decisions for the “golden” phase of our life. To keep working or retire was a big question for my spouse. I voted for retirement. The biggest thorn in these conversations has been, and still is, my husband’s relationship with his previous colleague. They met over 15 years ago when he was developing a new community project for his work. She was employed elsewhere and he worked really hard to get her employed at his agency so they could collaborate, which he did. While I respect the good community work they’ve achieved over the years, I’ve felt uncomfortable and bothered by the intimate and (in my opinion) flirtatious manner in which they speak. (Within these last 15 years, I worked seven of them in the same community with her and my husband and tried to develop a friendship with her during this time, to no avail. A couple of family members who met her said she seemed flirty and interested in my husband for more than work. Since I had not mentioned how I felt, I became bold with their validation, and I have to admit, I became especially negative toward her and her intentions.) The last two years of conversation have included me stating my discomfort (and anger) and asking him to step away from their relationship, especially since he is now retired. I feel that I sacrificed enough time and attention for myself and our kids to these great community works over the years. It was and is important work for the community; I’ve never doubted that. I believe my spouse when he says he hasn’t slept with her, but I also strongly feel she would jump at the chance to be with him romantically if she could. I said last March, when he retired, enough is enough. I asked him to cut all future work ties and communications with this woman for six months to give her a chance to find her own feet in the agency and to give him a chance to decide what he wants to do with his life. I told him, without anger, that if he wanted to continue his community work, I’d step away from the marriage so he could do so, but that I couldn’t stay and take any more of the drama and politics of the work, but I especially couldn’t take feeling like this woman is a third wheel in our marriage. With counseling (for me) and what feels like a million conversations, we are at a really good place. Some moments feel like we are dating again. I honestly remember why I fell in love with him and am excited about our future. The problem is he won’t tell this woman to stop calling and texting. She’s asked him if he “really wants to quit” the committees, boards, and LLC they’ve created. He said he does. We don’t go more than three weeks without her checking in. When she contacts my spouse, I can tell right away because of the change in his disposition. He’s edgy, preoccupied, and more argumentative. I don’t want that in our relationship anymore. I tie it directly to his previous job and this woman. I said in late 2020, if she’s your best friend and you need her in your life, then invite her to dinner so we can all get on the same page, so I can squash these feelings of jealousy and neglect. I was told she’s a work colleague and nothing more. Yet still, she calls…Help! —Third Wheel Angst

I recently got a puppy and gave him a very common name. A family member is upset because they had a pet named the same as what I chose. I have been asked to change his name. I don’t care to do this but I don’t want to cause friction with this person. Your thoughts?

—Puppy Love

Dear Puppy Love,

This is what you call an unreasonable request. Your puppy already knows his name! Moreover, you chose it because you like it. If you want to be generous, you could tell your family member that you’ll refrain from discussing the dog in front of them, or you can invite them to make up a nickname to use. They can call him little Max II.

My wife of 20 years has finally turned the corner over the last year and I am too resentful to enjoy it. She’s had pretty high levels of anxiety and depression for all of our marriage. She has very few friendships, and was only close to her parents who recently passed away over the last two years (one year apart). She never tried treatment, or to get help for her illness. For the seven years prior to her parents passing away, she showed me no affection in any way as she cared for them. I clearly communicated that this was an issue, and thought about leaving, but I didn’t at the time because of our young kids, and frankly, I didn’t want to look like the bad guy for leaving her when she was in a tough situation caring for her parents at the end. (Yeah, I should have just manned up.) She refused help from anyone, and I wasn’t a priority—just her parents and the kids. I am a more than involved father, doing bedtime, homework, appointments, all sports, and much of the home’s upkeep.

Now she is happy again for the first time in a decade, and made a career move that was really great for her. However, when my mother and father passed away she didn’t travel with me to their funerals, and didn’t help me with resolving any of their estates. After seven years of no contact, and doing my own thing with the kids, I shut down my desires for her. Now she thinks I must be looking elsewhere, but the reality is that I am so resentful about the last seven years that I can’t enjoy her being what I wanted all along. Do you think I should just leave or try therapy? I can’t ever see my feelings returning so I don’t see the point.

—Too Resentful to Enjoy

Dear Too Resentful to Enjoy,

After 20 years of marriage, therapy is worth trying. If your feelings don’t return (and I could understand if they didn’t), your sessions can serve as a place to navigate and negotiate the end of your relationship and plan a path forward that is as easy as possible on each of you and on your kids. The best-case scenario will be that you receive a sincere apology, you learn more about your wife’s experience over the past two decades, and you begin to feel your resentment fade away. After suffering in a one-sided marriage with a miserable spouse for so long, you owe yourself the opportunity to see if there’s a way you might enjoy this new version of your wife and the experience of having a partner who’s really present. But you also deserve a smooth and low-drama separation if it turns out that the relationship is beyond repair.

I’m dating a much younger lady and the first couple of years were great. For some reason, she never gave me the handle for any of her social media. Of course, this piqued my interest and with the help of a few keywords, I quickly found her Twitter account. And over time our relationship from her perspective has gone from loving to her actually pretty much admitting to sleeping with someone—admitting that she “loved it” while continuing to keep up appearances with me. Do I just end this abruptly or do I have to shove her words in her face while doing it because I feel betrayed?

—Betrayed By X

Dear Betrayed By X,

You are welcome to do either, as long as you end it.

I have known this guy for about a year now. We met in May of 2023 while I was swiping through Tinder looking for a causal relationship. I was very hesitant at first to meet him, as I was very hurt by a previous relationship and wasn’t sure if I was ready for a new one. It also didn’t help that he lived two hours away in another state. I eventually met him and we clicked instantly! We dated for a few months before he decided that it wasn’t going to work and broke it off. He wanted very different things in life than I did, so I don’t blame him.

After a couple of months of going no contact, we ended up spending time together when he visited my town with mutual friends of ours. Again, we instantly clicked and since then, we have continued to grow close. In fact, we now consider each other best friends, maybe even siblings, as we call each other brother or sister from time to time. Due to the distance, when we hang out it’s often for a few days and nights. I have to admit we do share the same bed when we see each other, although we do not touch one another. Recently, he has been seeing other women and I do find myself feeling jealous, especially if we haven’t seen each other in a while. I have expressed how this has made me feel to him and even explained that I don’t have those intimate feelings for him anymore. These feelings have become very confusing to me and I am genuinely worried that it will affect our relationship or how close we are in the future. What do I do, Prudence? How can I tell if I love him as a best friend or something more?

—Friend Zoned

Dear Friend Zoned,

OK, first of all, please stop referring to each other as brother and sister. That’s a transparent (and somewhat disturbing, given the sleeping arrangements and the jealous feelings) attempt to put a legitimate label on a failed romantic pairing. You don’t love this guy as a best friend or as something more. The answer is neither!

Your desires, attraction, and communication are all misaligned. There are a lot of different definitions of love out there, but few of them involve deciding it isn’t going to work, breaking up, wanting different things, and faking a platonic relationship, and losing all “intimate feelings,” followed by one person dating others while the other person gets jealous but still isn’t sure exactly how they feel. This isn’t your soulmate—he’s just a person who you click with in some (but not enough) ways. Stepping away from that little bit of attraction and compatibility and the attachment you’ve developed to him will be tough, but on the other hand, it frees up your time and energy for a potential relationship that involves a lot more enjoyment and a lot less confusion. Fire up Tinder again.

Classic Prudie

I have had a best friend for over a decade. He is fabulously gay, in his 50s, has a house in an expensive city and a vacation home on the coast, and we have been through a lot together. I thought we were extremely close; we would talk almost daily. I got married in November, and since it was going to be a tiny COVID wedding, my then-fiancé and I decided to only invite family.

The day I returned home after being kidnapped by Islamic terrorists

Beth and Tommy in Portaledge in a tent on the side of a cliff

Beth Rodden is a professional rock climber who, along with three other climbers, was kidnapped and held hostage by Islamic militants in 2000 while on a climbing trip in Kyrgyzstan. The following is excerpted from her new memoir, “A Light Through the Cracks,” about the day she returned home to the U.S.

Amsterdam, August 2000

By the time my boyfriend, Tommy Caldwell, and I made it to Amsterdam’s gleaming, sterile airport, we had been passed along a half dozen times, like an important but increasingly well-worn package. Military helicopters had brought us and our other two climbing partners from base to base. We’d endured a surreal ride on a private jet from the last military base to the capital, Bishkek, traveling alongside the tipsy and jovial president of Kyrgyzstan. He’d patted us on the shoulders like a grandfather and claimed us long enough for a photo op and a speech to local media in a language we couldn’t understand. Then he handed the four of us off to the American embassy, which scrambled to find us flights home. A few days later, Tommy and I drove across the Kazakhstan border, in a hired car with a diplomatic escort, to the international airport in Almaty, and finally a commercial jet took us from Central Asia to the edge of the Atlantic. Now we had just one more flight to go.

Our tickets were a last-minute mess, and we needed to check on our connection. As we crossed the terminal, I carried a brown paper gift bag from the airport candy shop — despite what we’d been through, I still wanted to bring my older brother a present from this trip. I watched the families clustered around the gates, the lone business travelers perched at the bars, scanning each face around me. I’d been on edge through practically every step of the journey: The embassy in Bishkek had felt almost safe, but at the hotel where they’d sent us to get some sleep, I’d felt vulnerable and stayed vigilant.

Book

In the airport, I was hungry again. When we’d made it to the second army base, the one that felt like a cluster of portable classrooms set down on a vast brown plain, we’d stuffed ourselves with barley and warm buttered bread, but I could not stay full. I had just eaten two chocolate croissants. Still, my stomach felt like a cavern. My brother didn’t really need a present, did he?

I ate half the chocolate in the bag before we got to our gate.

The line at the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines counter felt so orderly. The whole airport did. Just existing there felt like getting a big, soothing hug. When we’d boarded the flight in Kazakhstan, the passengers had formed no line. Everybody just pushed in a scrum toward the plane. Tommy and I stood frozen, like the good, shocked scouts that we were, and got lost in the flood. I felt so fragile, so extremely fragile, and so resigned to that fragile state.

We weren’t safe. That was obvious to me. No line, no order, no rule of law. I loved rules. People smoked openly on that first plane.

“Next,” the flight attendant said as we arrived at the counter. Her voice was as professionally cheerful as her uniform: light blue skirt, light blue jacket, white blouse underneath.

“We’re here to check in for our flight,” I said.

“Wonderful. May I please have your boarding passes?”

I mumbled something apologetic and handed her a few crumpled, dirty sheets of paper. “I think we have to get our seats and stuff from you.”

She pinched her brow as she read our mess of documents. She typed vigorously. I was sure this meant we weren’t going to make it home.

“Can you wait one second?” she asked, flashing a strained smile. She disappeared behind a wall.

Beth Rodden climbing a boulder

I looked at Tommy. He stared into the blank space where the woman had just been. I couldn’t tell if he was as scared as I was, if he was also monitoring the people pooling and flowing around us for any threat. I felt like I had grown an invisible antenna that vibrated continually, never at rest. Never letting me rest. A memory tried to surface inside me: a body in silhouette, sailing off a dark cliff. A crunch, and an exhale. I forced it back down.

Two blond attendants now appeared where there had been one.

“Can you tell me: Was it something KLM did?” the new flight attendant asked.

I looked back at Tommy. Did he know what she was talking about? Did she know what had happened? Tommy shrugged.

“Wait, what?” I said. “What was something . . . ?”

“Well, um, how to say this,” the flight attendant said. “It says on your tickets, ‘Emotionally distressed passengers, please take care.’ So, we are just wondering if it’s something KLM did.” She looked concerned and defensive in her caring, like a hospital billing manager. She didn’t want to know the answer, but she had to ask.

I didn’t want a stranger to try to comfort me, but I did feel the need to comfort her. So I said, “Oh no, definitely not. We were just kidnapped and we want to go home.”

I couldn’t believe how easily the sentence came out. We were just kidnapped . . . I’d never said it so plainly before.

The flight attendant exhaled all her breath at once, stunned and relieved. “Well, good,” she said.

Well, good?

“KLM does our best. How about business-class seats for you two?” She printed our fresh, flat boarding passes. Tommy and I boarded the plane.

We ate every meal and every snack that was offered to us on the long ride home. My hunger was like a portal opened into a galaxy — infinite, absolute. When I was in middle school, I used to watch my older brother, David, eat, stunned by the mountain of food he could consume. Now, it felt strangely freeing to eat with that type of abandon. I hadn’t done that since ninth grade, when I became obsessed with climbing.

I could eat, but I still couldn’t sleep. My anxiety kept me wide awake, and my wakefulness in turn meant I had nothing but space and time for the anxiety to spin itself tighter in my body. I kept wondering if the plane would crash. That seemed possible, maybe even probable, given how the rest of our trip had gone. An appropriate ending, in a way. I wondered if I’d be scared. What would Tommy say to me before impact? Would it hurt? Our backpack, stuffed at our feet, was filled with souvenirs purchased in a blur during our strange interlude in Bishkek, between our flight with the president and our diplomatic drive across the border. I had stuffed the paltry remains of the airport chocolate into our bag alongside the rest of the things we’d acquired: a hand-carved wooden chess set, a wool hanging. Proof that we’d done something major and been somewhere cool. What were we thinking?

Beth Rodden

The backpack that sat at our feet had been lost in transit when we’d first landed in Kyrgyzstan, full of hope for our climbing adventure, and was waiting for us, perversely intact, at the hotel in Bishkek after our escape. We’d left San Francisco with 20 expedition duffels, and all I had left was this backpack filled with trinkets from a country to which I’d never return. Maybe that was why we’d bought them, with the money Tommy had wadded up in his sock just before we were marched away from our camp at gunpoint. Maybe it was some attempt to fabricate a decent memory of the place.

My hands trembled the whole 12 hours to San Francisco. I knew I needed sleep, but if the plane did crash, wasn’t I supposed to be awake for that? I had no idea how to act, what to do or say or who to be when we saw our parents. I’d left as a 20-year-old girl full of herself, ready for the world, sure I was doing something extraordinary. I was living out the dream I’d stared at in the posters I hung on my bedroom wall: climbing to incredible heights in far-off places. My mother had hardly traveled, certainly not by my age. I’d felt so awfully superior as I’d walked down the jetway when we left. I didn’t even turn back to wave.

My parents had given me everything — pride, freedom, confidence. They trusted me. They trusted my decisions. They trusted the world. Now I was returning home a broken mess. I’d spoken to them a few times from the embassy in Bishkek, the words mainly drowned in my tears. I wanted to be small again, so small I could crawl through the phone into their arms, where they’d hold me and shush me and stroke my head. I wanted my mother to say, “Mama’s here, Mama’s here,” just like she always did when I was a girl. I wanted to shrink back into that little-girl body and lay my head in her lap and cry.

How was I supposed to carry myself getting off the jetway? Was the idea to act strong, like I was fine? I was weirdly good at that. Or should I literally run into their arms?

Now — how to do this? How was I supposed to carry myself getting off the jetway? Was the idea to act strong, like I was fine? I was weirdly good at that. Or should I literally run into their arms, like I had been dreaming of doing for the past eight days? I’d never spoken easily with my parents about feelings. They were so kind, so present, and gently but firmly on my team. But inside, I always felt nervous, like there was a line I was afraid to cross, like I needed to be tougher, solid, unbreakable. And even if I could lay my head in my mother’s lap and have her say, “Mama’s here,” would that still work to soothe me? I was not the same person I had been when I left. My thoughts flapped like the loose end of a film in an old-fashioned movie projector, the front reel spinning empty.

I looked over at Tommy. Maybe he’d know what to do. His head was slumped at a 45-degree angle to his chest, his mouth dropped open, snoring. He was sick. His brain was more lucid and less spastic than mine, but his body was breaking down. He had a fever. I envied Tommy’s oblivion. I felt so alone.

We landed. My palms were sweating, but Tommy’s hands felt strong. That felt like a plan: I’d hold his strong hand and we’d present a united front, though I hadn’t told him about my looping, flapping mind. I was trying to stay composed — for him, for me, maybe for my parents too. We collected our bag of souvenirs from under the airplane seats. The souvenirs promised our trip was normal. We were normal. I grabbed a free chocolate bar and a package of cookies from the plane’s galley as we exited. I never did anything like that, but now instead of saying, “Don’t eat that, Rodden,” I thought, “Just in case we don’t have any other food.”

I didn’t race off the plane like I had seen people do in movies, straight into their loved ones’ arms. Instead I walked so slowly that other passengers started passing us. I was desperate to return home, to the narrow twin bed in my parents’ house, on our quiet block filled with minivans and white Honda sedans, to replant myself in the flat farmland around Davis, California, to recommit to the safe wide sidewalks. I just didn’t know how. I wondered if people could tell we’d changed: if we walked differently or stood slightly less straight, if we’d absorbed so much fear and terror that we now emitted it.

Her Brother Wants His Kids To Be Allowed At Her Wedding, But She Refuses To Make An Exception To Her “No Kids” Rule

You know that things have to be pretty bad if someone doesn’t invite one of their siblings to their wedding.

In fact, I think that usually means that things are downright UGLY.

But that’s what happened in this story from Reddit, and the woman who wrote it wants to know if she’s wrong.

Check out her story and see what you think.

AITA for telling my brother he cannot come to my wedding? “I (32F) and my fiance (30M) are getting married in three months. We’ve done some major and minor planning, including rules. We specifically want NO kids at the wedding. My brother (35M) and I have always been close we’ve gotten through a lot together, he has two amazing kids (2 and 3). I couldn’t be any happier to be their aunt. Their mother has had issues with substance abuse so she isn’t in their lives, my brother raises the kids by himself, which is convenient because he has an at home job.

She’s standing by her rule.

Me and my fiancee decided we did not want any kids at our wedding because we were going to be drinking, partying, and other stuff I personally wouldn’t want kids to be around. We’ve also had struggles trying to have children of our own, and I recently had a miscarriage in February. The miscarriage was devastating, of course my brother was there to comfort me but the sight of my nieces shattered me even more. I asked him to not bring them around me for a while. He didn’t respond to that well and stopped visiting me at all, he said via text messages “If your own nieces cannot come, neither will I.”

Things have gotten ugly.

My fiance said it was okay to ask for no kids to be around, but my parents were frustrated. They also stopped visiting me. I eventually sent out invitations to all my loved ones, the card had all the details including the bolded “NO KIDS.” Majority of family was okay with that and didn’t have young kids anyway. My brother on the other hand was going to be in my wedding, but once he read the invitation he sent me a text stating, “Wouldn’t your nieces make great flower girls, going but dresses now.”

She won’t change her mind.

I replied saying, “No need, they cannot come inside my wedding, no hard feelings.” He then said, “It shouldn’t apply to them, they are family, what color should they get, blue or silver?” I then replied, “None, if you feel like you cannot be separated from your children for a couple of hours then you cannot come to my wedding, my rules are clear and final on the invitation.” I blocked my brother after that. I have nonstop been getting text after text, call after call, begging me to talk to my brother and allow my nieces to come. My own parents have stated that until my nieces and brother are allowed at my wedding, they will not be there.”

Let’s see how Reddit users reacted.

One reader said she’s being an *******.

Another person said she’s NTA.

This Reddit user pointed out that it is her wedding…

One person explained why she’s NTA.

And this Reddit user made a good point.

I definitely think she’s in the wrong.

Not about the wedding, maybe, but the way she’s treating them overall.

My husband let his brother propose at our wedding — I want an annulment

black woman holds diamond engagement ring

‘I married my sweet husband Liam last Saturday. It was perfect… except for one major hiccup during the reception,’ says Clara*.

The 29-year-old bride got an upsetting surprise during the wedding speeches , thanks to her husband – and now she wants an annulment .

Clara has never been a fan of her husband’s brother Ben, 30. But her 27-year-old groom chose him to be best man.

‘While I like most of my new in-laws, Ben has always rubbed me the wrong way with his behaviour,’ she explains.

‘He would crack all of these jokes that aren’t really funny and tries way too hard to be the cool and popular guy. Think Screech from Saved by the Bell – only ten times more annoying.’

Liam used to get more attention as a child after being diagnosed with high functioning autism, but this led Ben to act out in his teens, meaning his parents shifted their attention and love towards him instead.

Clara's wedding was meant to be her day, but it was derailed by her brother-in-law

‘To this day, their parents are more likely to side with Ben than Liam,’ Clara adds.

This, along with Liam being a ‘people pleaser’ is where the issue arose, and it began a month ago, before the wedding, when they were having dinner with his parents – and Ben.

Clara says: ‘Everything was fun and we were all talking about plans outside the wedding. That’s when Ben revealed that he had plans to ask his girlfriend of 5 years, Melody, to marry him.

‘Of course we were all excited and asked about his plans for the proposal. That’s when Ben turned to Liam and said “I was hoping to do it at the reception!”

‘I laughed nervously, knowing his tendency to make bad jokes and told him “You do that and my brothers will throw you out of the venue!”

‘But Ben got offended that I laughed… and I realised he was being serious!’

Instead of asking Clara first, Liam said: ‘Of course you can! Melody will love it!’

‘I was so upset,’ Clara adds on Reddit. ‘Liam and I moved to a different room and I explained to him about how another person proposing or making a major announcement was in bad taste as it takes away from the bride and groom.’

Clara kindly suggested they organise a party for Ben to propose at instead and Ben was told he would not be proposing at their wedding, which he understood.

‘Saturday rolls around and the day goes off without a hitch. We get everything done and it’s time for the reception,’ Clara says.

‘Ben, as best man, has a speech prepared for us. It was full of bad jokes and weird attempts at puns but it was overall very nice. Part of Ben’s speech was to move around the tables, which should’ve been a red flag but I decided to not say anything.

‘At the end of the speech, Ben stopped at Melody and proposed!’

Understandably Clara wasn’t happy. ‘I was so mad that I stormed out,’ she says. ‘Liam and my mum came to comfort me. Liam apologised over and over, saying “They told me it’d be fine. They told me it’d be fine.”

Clara is debating getting an annulment because she feels upset and betrayed

‘I was just done at that point. Mum offered to drive me home. Liam kept begging for forgiveness but I told him “Don’t call me. I’ll call you.” and left.’

Clara hasn’t seen her new husband since then and, while her family is upset at the situation, Liam’s family are congratulating Ben and Melody, posting pictures of their proposal rather then her wedding.

‘I was prepared to file for annulment and move on,’ Clara adds. ‘That’s until… I learned that Ben and their parents applied the pressure over and over on Liam until he finally caved the night before the wedding.

‘I asked him why he didn’t come to me and he said “You were so stressed and I didn’t want to worry you!” Liam concluded in his email with “I want another chance. Please give me another chance!”‘

Clara has been left wondering whether she should try to salvage her marriage or take the hint that her new husband will always bend to family pressure.

Ness Cooper, a sex and relationship therapist, tells Metro.co.uk that this is a clear case of boundaries not being respected.

‘Over stepping boundaries around wedding planning can lead to extreme stress and even trauma which the bride and groom may have to work through for their entire relationship,’ she explains.

‘The relationships boundaries were respected and a betrayal has occurred which may be difficult to heal from for both.

‘There are clear signs that the relationship has communication issues, which even without the proposal at their wedding, would’ve needed extra work for the relationship to survive long term.’

Ness believes that Clara has been betrayed by Liam and let down, but she also feels their internal belief systems don’t align, which can be really hard to work through.

‘The bride clearly is hoping that this can be fixed, but sadly this isn’t always possible. Deep internal work needs to be done by both individuals,’ Ness says.

‘The wife needs to explore if she is able to tolerate similar happening again in the future and methods she can use to support herself through them.’

Ness also questions Ben’s motivations for proposing. ‘I find it interesting that the brother-in-law decided this so close to the wedding date, as it signals he already knew the bride would be against it, meaning that he doesn’t respect the brides autonomy at all,’ she explains.

The wedding went off without a hitch until the reception

‘I’d question why the brides brother-in-law felt the need to include his family so much in the proposal. It’s clear that both brothers hold their primary family in high regard, and both may struggle to co-create their own families with their partners due to this.’

It’s also important to acknowledge that Liam’s autism may have contributed to the handling of this situation.

Ness says: ‘Many with autism can struggle with boundaries and as assertiveness and benefit from assertiveness focused coaching or therapy to learn skills on how to apply this in day-to-day life.

‘Within all relationships you need some level of assertiveness to be able to stand up for your relationship, partner, and even yourself.

‘The lack of assertiveness and being able to say no to others could be a sign that the groom isn’t being authentic with their partner in regards to their relationship desires, needs and wants.

‘The bride may always be left wondering what’s really coming from him when it comes to future relationship decisions and what’s being influenced by other factors.

‘If they were to continue the relationship they would need to hold well established boundaries when it comes to involving family opinions and influence.’
