Electronic Theses

Our  repository of electronic theses  contains the full text of over 3,800 Newcastle University doctoral theses.

  • EThOS Search the details of over 500,000 UK theses dating back to 1800. The full text of over half of these is available for immediate download to registered users, and in other cases, you may be able to request a copy in digital or other format (for which there may be a charge).

  • Proquest Dissertations & Theses Citation Index The ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Citation Index is the world's most comprehensive curated collection of multi-disciplinary dissertations and theses, offering over 5.5 million records representing dissertations and theses from thousands of universities around the world.

Where to find theses and dissertations?

Many of you are busy writing your dissertation right now, in the depths of your Masters project or wrestling with your PhD. If you are looking for ideas then look no further than our Theses and Dissertations Guide .

There are many reasons why you would use other theses and dissertations for your studies:

  • How similar is it to my research question? Do I need to change my question slightly?
  • What references/citations did they use? Check them out, they might have used some good references that can help you.
  • Can you use this theses/dissertation as a reference for your research?
  • Inspiration! Maybe you have a vague idea what your research question is, but you want to see what’s been done already.

For a Newcastle University thesis, use Library Search (see link below) to find the thesis you want to request. If you choose 'Advanced search', you can restrict your search to theses by selecting from the 'materials type' box.

Click on the Locations/Request tab for the thesis entry and then on the 'request' link (you may be asked to log in using your campus credentials). Fill in the request form and click on 'submit request'.

To request a thesis from another UK library, use the the British Library's EthOS service (see link below).
