30 Famous and Short Inspirational Speeches (5 minutes or less)

  • December 13, 2023

This post is all about the best short inspirational speeches.

Short Inspirational Speeches.

If you are in need of a quick boost of inspiration and motivation, you will find that in this post. I am one of those people who loves to get motivated. That sounds weird, right?

Well, a lot of people these days tend to give motivation a hard time because they don’t believe that it has lasting effects. In other words, they believe that what’s most important is your own self-discipline, because that’s what you have to rely on when motivation isn’t there.

And while I do agree with that sentiment in general, I will never pass up a great motivational podcast or YouTube video! 😀 There’s just something about them that even if they might not have lasting effects, they do truly help pump me up in the moment to get work done. And that’s usually what matters to me the most when I am looking for them in the first place.

So, here are the very best short motivational speeches so you can get that quick fix of motivation that you’re looking for, and ultimately move closer to your goals and dreams.

Short Inspirational Speeches

Believe in yourself speeches.

If you lack confidence or you are doubting yourself, these short motivational speeches will help you to believe in yourself again.

1. Rocky’s Inspirational Speech to His Son | ROCKY BALBOA

In less than 5 minutes, you’ll watch Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) explain to his son that if he wants to have the life he desires, he needs to believe in himself. He needs to stop listening to the people that tell him who he is, and instead go be his own person, and stop looking for someone to blame when things aren’t working out for him because ultimately it’s on HIM. This is one of the greatest inspirational speeches of all time.

2. Find Your Purpose | David Goggins – Motivational Speech

David Goggins is truly incredible. A former Navy SEAL, he has broken records and ran more races than you’d imagine. But the one thing that really stands out about him is his mindset.

Listen to this video if you want to be great. He tells you exactly what you need to do to get there.

Also, if you’ve never read David Goggins’ book “Can’t Hurt Me” , I highly recommend it. He talks about his rough upbringing, and how he was able to essentially become an entirely new person to become a Navy SEAL.

3. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF – Motivational Video (ft. Jaret Grossman & Eric Thomas)

This video is all about how important it is to have the proper belief system. If you truly believe that you are one of the best, you will start acting that you are one of the best, and eventually you may just be one of the best.

4. DON’T LET YOUR DREAMS DIE – Motivational Speech

This YouTube short by Mel Robbins is so good, I had to share it. A light bulb went on in my head when I first watched this. If there is something that is always on your mind, don’t let it haunt you forever because you never put yourself out there to try it. Go and DO!

Motivational Speeches About Not Giving Up

The following short motivational speeches are all about not giving up on your dreams. If you are losing hope, these short motivational speeches will inspire you to keep going.

5. Brené Brown It’s Not The Critic Who Counts

This speech will give you chills, and it is packed with great lessons about life. Brené Brown is a researcher who went viral for a Ted Talk, and here she talks about how to overcome critics and to keep believing in yourself no matter what. If you are worried about what people think of you, you NEED to watch this.

6. Amazing Motivational Speech by Denzel Washington

This is another video that gave me chills. The main theme of this famous speech is “ease is a greater threat to progress than hardship”. Stay consistent even when it’s hard. Easy task after easy task won’t get you to where you want to be.

7. Steve Harvey – Inspirational Speech | Motivational Short Video | Incredible You

This short motivational speech by Steve Harvey is short but impactful. If you are someone who stepped out of your comfort zone to pursue something really difficult, and you’re thinking about giving up, this speech may just prevent you from doing so.

8. Ed Mylett on The Power of One More

Ed Mylett shares the story of how his father stayed sober until his dying day, and how Ed himself uses that same philosophy to never give up. Personal stories like these are always the most inspiring.

By the way, if you REALLY want to push yourself and become the best, read Ed Mylett’s most recent book on this same topic, “The Power Of One More” .

Motivational Speeches If You’re Feeling Behind

Are you feeling behind in life? If so, let’s change that. Watch these videos to be reminded that you are on your own unique path. You have no competition other than your past self. These short motivational videos will help you believe that.

9. Before You Feel Pressure – WATCH THIS | by Jay Shetty

Jay Shetty talks to a school class about how there’s no one “perfect” life timeline to follow, and that we are all on our own clock.

10. Kevin Hart Motivational Speech

If you’ve made mistakes in your life (haven’t we all) this is a great story from Kevin Hart (famous comedian and actor) that will remind you of the power of making mistakes and pushing through hard times.

11. Oprah Winfrey | 5 Minutes For The NEXT 50 Years of Your LIFE

In this video, Oprah talks about the importance of really knowing who you are and what you want in your life. She talks about surrounding yourself with great people, and how to have enormous success. “Let excellence be your brand.”

Listen To These If You Need Perspective

Sometimes in life, we get so caught up in the day to day that we forget what truly matters – the people we love. If you are having trouble with something in life, give these videos a listen, because they just might help you realize what is really important.

12. Arnold Schwarzenegger – Organize Your Day | 1 MINUTE MOTIVATIONAL VIDEO

Are you the kind of person who always complains that you don’t have enough time to do something? If so, you’re not alone. We are all busy humans, running around doing a million things. But if you aren’t prioritizing what you know you should be doing, listen to this video.

13. How to Judge Your Life Using 3 Simple Questions | Brendon Burchard Speech| Goalcast

Have you ever heard of Mortality Motivation? It’s essentially what it sounds like… being motivated by the impending reality of your death. It sounds a little morbid, but it’s actually quite beautiful and it can be really beneficial if you harness it for good.

In this video by motivational speaker Brendon Burchard, he shares how a car accident when he was 19 gave him mortality motivation and changed everything for him.

14. FALL, SUFFER AND LEARN | MOTIVATIONAL SPEECH BY OPRAH WINFREY

This speech by Oprah was given to Harvard graduates, and it’s a unique speech because she talks about failing, even after the major success of her television show for over 20 years.

It’s refreshing to hear that even the most successful people fail. What really matters, though, is what you do with your failure. Do you learn from it and move on? Or do you give up?

15. YOU VS YOU – Best Motivational Video

This is a pretty intense video about competition. If your #1 competition is someone else, you need to change your perspective. Your only competition is YOU. The only thing preventing you from moving forward is you.

16. The Speech That Brought This Entire School To Tears

This is a speech about a man who never really paid much attention to his mother, until she passed away. It’s an emotional reminder to cherish the time you have with your loved ones, because you never know if the next time you see them will be the last time.

In my opinion, this speaker embodies many qualities of the best motivational speakers because he really knows how to capture the audience’s attention and pull on their heart strings.

17. 5 Minutes to Start Your Day Right! – MORNING MOTIVATION

This motivational speech is by a Navy SEAL who will remind you to start each day with a task completed, respect everyone, take risks, step up during tough times, and never give up. If you do these things, the next generation, and the generations that follow, will live better lives than we live today.

18. The Real You – Jim Carrey

This video is one of the best motivational speech examples because it reminds you of something so important: sometimes we can be so focused on earning more money, gaining fame, and becoming admired that we lose ourselves or we lose sight of what’s really important to us in the process.

Jim Carrey talks about how he is a great example of that. He got all of the money, fame, and admiration, and admits that that wasn’t really who he was. Sometimes it’s nice to be reminded that money and fame, or even getting to the top of the corporate ladder, while nice, aren’t going to be the thing that brings you fulfillment when it’s all said and done.

19. Ed Mylett Motivational Speech

I posted another motivational video by Ed Mylett above, but if you don’t know much about him, prepare to have your world rocked. He’s probably my absolute favorite motivational speaker because he is successful and he works hard, but he’s also (seemingly) a kind, family guy who’s been through a few things.

In this video, he talks about being “the one” that changed his family tree. Take a listen because I’m sure it’ll get you thinking on whether or not you can be “the one” in YOUR family.

P.S. If you love personal growth content, you should check out Ed Mylett’s podcast . I listen to it every week and it is one of my favorites.

20. If You Feel LOST, LAZY & UNMOTIVATED In Life, WATCH THIS! | Tony Robbins Motivation

Great Inspirational Speeches About Hard Work

How hard do you think you work? Could you be doing more? If there’s a little voice inside of your heart that knows you could be doing more and better, these motivational videos about the value of hard work will help you push yourself.

And a side note: your chances of having good luck increase the harder and longer you work.

21. You’re Not Tired, You’re Just Weak – David Goggins Motivation

If you’re feeling lazy or like you don’t want to do something, watch this video til 2:25 . It will give you the push you need to put your head down and do the work. It’ll remind you to keep pursuing your goals and to keep challenging yourself. Key takeaway: push yourself beyond your perceived limits.

22. Hard Work & Patience – A Gary Vaynerchuk Original Film

If you want to be motivated to work hard, listen to Gary Vaynerchuk. Gary Vaynerchuk is a creative genius known for his marketing tactics. This famous motivational speech is all about playing “the long game”, as in, working for a long time and having patience instead of working hard for a short period of time and expecting to win quickly.

23. OBSESSION – Best Motivational Speech

This is one of my favorite short motivational speeches because it makes me feel a little more normal for being “weird”. I’m the kind of person who chooses to work on the weekends instead of hanging out with people. Crazy, right? But it’s because I’m working toward a dream of mine and it’s something that’s really important to me. The most important thing to remember: it’s okay to devote yourself to something. It’s the only way to get what you want in life.

24. WORK LIKE HELL – Best Motivational Video

This is a series of motivational speeches about doing a little bit more and outworking your competition. I’m not going to lie – I’m up late writing this post and listening to this very video is what’s motivating me to keep going.

25. The video EVERY woman should watch!

Whether or not you’re a Rachel Hollis fan may be up for debate (and that’s okay!) but I happen to think she’s a great motivational speaker. This entire speech will inspire you to work hard and take massive action – today.

26. NEVER SURRENDER – Powerful Motivational Speech (by Kobe Bryant)

This one minute video by the late Kobe Bryant is one of the most famous short speeches. I read a book recently by his former personal trainer and I learned that Kobe really outworked everyone. He talks about a quote in this video that really stuck with him, and I think it’s great advice if you’re the kind of person who needs motivation to keep working hard.

Motivational Speeches About Working Smart

Have you ever heard the saying “work smarter, not harder”? That saying is all about ensuring that the work you are doing is actually efficient. Are you getting to where you want to go with all of the work that you are putting in? Are you getting closer to your goals and your dreams? Or are you sprinting like a hamster on a wheel and just running in circles?

Here are great videos on the importance of working hard but also working intentionally.

27. SET SYSTEMS RATHER THAN GOALS – Motivational Speech – James Clear

A goal gives you a sense of direction, but if you don’t spell out precisely how you are going to get to a goal, it is useless. You must develop systems. Listen to this James Clear video to gain valuable life lessons.

By the way, James Clear is an author who wrote perhaps my favorite book of all time: “Atomic Habits” . It’s life-changing if you haven’t read it yet.

28. Matthew McConaughey | 5 Minutes for the NEXT 50 Years of Your LIFE

This is one of the best motivational speeches of all time about how to live a great life for YOU. It’s filled with little pieces of wisdom that’ll really get you thinking about how you live your life and in what direction you want to go.

29. Visualization is the key – Bob Proctor

Do you believe in the Law of Attraction? If not, I have to say I’m surprised! I’ve experienced it in my own life more than once, and it is incredibly powerful. Here’s a great video that sums up the power of visualization, and if you want to learn more about the Law of Attraction or manifestation in general, read this post .

This video shows the true power of words, thoughts, and feelings that you have.

30. How to Stay Motivated – Carla Harris

Here is a YouTube short with very practical advice from Carla Harris on HOW to stay motivated. It’s all about having a vision!

Self-confidence means having belief in oneself. It is the attitude developed by an individual based on one’s skills and abilities. Self-confidence is  important for a positive lifestyle. It helps in understanding one’s true self, and thus, develops an optimistic personality within the individual.

Let’s remember the words said by Eleanor Roosevelt, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent”. Self-confidence is something that is developed internally. It helps an individual to set goals for winning in life. Low self-confidence results in self-doubt, which in turn, makes an individual feel inferior and sensitive to criticism. Unwanted doubts about oneself negatively affect one’s perception of life. It drags a person down and ultimately results in failures.

The aftereffects of different experiences shape the life of an individual. Unsupportive environment negatively affect the self-confidence of an individual. Obstacles are part of life; it is important to make sure that you never let those obstacles design your life. Work to counter such troubles and don’t dwell on failure. Learn from experiences; no master is better than them.

Self-confidence is undoubtedly the key to success. It makes a person feel independent, optimistic, and positive in life. With all these characteristics, a person can easily deal with difficult situations in life. Self-confidence helps an individual to successfully face day-to-day challenges and demands. People feel more motivated and energised when they are confident in their abilities. With this trait vested inside, people develop the strength to face all the challenges in their lives. The strength developed by the people pushes them to do more and achieve goals in life. As a result, it paves the way for happiness in an individual’s life.

There are multiple ways to improve self-confidence in a person. Try to recognise your strength and who you are. This is one of the major steps that can be taken to increase your self-confidence. Realise your abilities and learn to use them. Mark your progress and praise your efforts. List down all your abilities and things that you are confident to do. Perform a close analysis of the list and choose the things that you want to ameliorate.

Try to surround yourself with positive, successful people and experience the vibe generated by them. Express yourself. Always try to express your voice, feelings, and beliefs directly. You don’t need to feel guilty for expressing your thoughts and ideas.

Start believing in yourself. Self-confident people perceive themselves as the best. Perceptions greatly influence one’s life and shape their growth. “You become what you believe, not what you think or what you want.” These are the words told by Oprah Winfrey. So start believing in yourself, and live a life by acting on your beliefs.

2-Minute Self-Confidence Speech

‘A very warm good morning to everyone present here. I would like to thank my teacher (s) for giving me this opportunity to express my speech on self confidence. It took me 2 days to prepare this speech, not because of my grammar, but self-confidence. There is a magic in self-confidence. It can make things happen. What you once thought was impossible can be achieved through self-confidence.’

‘When you believe in yourself, you develop a positive attitude and can see the bar raising. We all want to succeed in life and success comes with hard work. Not everybody is born with extraordinary skills and talent, but if you believe in yourself, you can achieve your desired goals in real-time. There is a saying that ‘ hard work beats talent’ if there is self-confidence in the person.

Self-confidence is not always about winning or succeeding in life. Sometimes, it allows us to find our true self. When you are confident, you feel highly motivated, enhance communication skills and performance, increase resilience, assertiveness, better decision marking, etc.’

Although there are hundreds of other methods of building confidence, they are all good for nothing if it doesn’t from the inside. Remember what Steve Jobs said? ‘Your time is limited, don’t waste it living someone else’s life.’

Achieving self-confidence is quite demanding, as it requires deliberate practice every single day. Start by setting realistic and short-term goals, like scoring good marks in the next semester or performing better in the next football tournament. Celebrate your achievements, no matter how small they may seem. Remember that failure is not a reflection of your worth; it is an opportunity to learn and grow.

Success only comes to those who are willing to work hard, persevere in the face of challenges, and consistently strive to improve themselves and their circumstances. Your emotions will only get in the way of your path to success. Your self-confidence will be your biggest weapon.

You if are still not fired up, listen to this, ‘success will hug you in private, but failure will slap you in public.’

Thank you.’

Kate Winslet: Don't be afraid to make mistakes.

” Don't be afraid to make mistakes.

Hello! How amazing to be here! So I am Kate Winslet. Born in Reading, Berkshire I have two sisters and one brother. I have a mum and a dad. Our mum was just our mum, a great cook and storyteller. Sometimes worked in a local sandwich shop. My dad was a postman, a van driver, a tarmac shoveler, a Christmas tree seller and he did many other odd jobs along the way to make ends meet. He was also an actor. Yes he was. More out of work than in it but he always loved it. And even though he rarely made any money from it he still loved it. He was happy and it made me want to be an actor too.

At school I wasn’t very good at maths, I was okay at English, pretty rubbish at history but the thing I loved, I loved was drama. It was my passion. Yes, it was my passion. I was always auditioning for the school plays, I didn’t really get very good parts mind you but I didn’t mind, I didn’t care. I would often get cast as the crocodile or the scarecrow or the daft fairy. I was even a dancing frog once. But it didn’t matter, I still loved it, I loved acting. It didn’t matter how big or small the parts were. I wanted to be great and I was determined to keep learning. So I did my GCSEs, I did okay. Nothing in life comes for free, my dad would say. Do good work. I tried my best, I did good work. I got an A star for drama, it was the only A I got. I got my A, oh yeah. But what was I going to do now? How was I going to realise my dream of being on stage? I never even dared to think about being in films.

So first things first, I got a job at the same sandwich shop as my mum. That way I could save enough money each week to pay for the train fares to London to go on auditions. I didn’t get that many auditions back then. And it was tough, I never got the parts. I tried so hard to get them but I never got them and I was always comparing myself to others. You see I’d been bullied at school, they called me blubber. They teased me for wanting to act, locked me in the cupboard, laughed at me. I wasn’t the prettiest, I’ve always had big feet. And I was even told that I might be lucky in my acting if I was happy to settle for the fat girl parts. Ever let go, never let go. And they would say, you’re just not really what we’re looking for Kate. And so I’d hear that a lot. And so these comments about how I looked started to crop up and I’d never really dared to think about how I looked before. I was just kind of ordinary, nothing special. But this unkindness made me feel truly horrendous. I felt I wasn’t enough, I wasn’t good enough, I didn’t look right. And all because I didn’t fit into someone else’s idea of perfect. I didn’t have the perfect body and I would rarely hear anything positive.

So I started to feel, I started to feel uncomfortable in my own skin. It made it hard, I wanted to give up. Maybe I should rethink this acting thing I said to myself. But it was my passion and it made me happy. And surely nobody can take my happiness away. So I had to rise above it, I had to dig deep, be strong. Because deep down I wanted to play Sandy in Grease. And I wanted to be Annie. And I wanted to be Maria in West Side Story. I wanted to be in the world of my dreams on stage. I was done with being told I looked wrong. I was done with being told I didn’t fit that perfect mould. I wanted to be an actress and nothing was going to stop me.

So what did I do? What did I do? I didn’t lock myself away and give up on my dream. I fought back. I had to ignore the negative comments. I had to believe in myself. I had to choose to rise above it all. And I had to work hard. You have to be indestructible to do what you love. And believe that you are worth it. Yes, believe that you are worth it. And sometimes that’s the hardest part. Wrong hair, big feet, wrong face, too ordinary, not right, don’t fit, next. And I was the W in the alphabet. So I came last. I was always stuck at the end of the queue. But I stayed focused until W was called out and it was my turn. Kate Winslet, are you ready? The question is… Are you ready for me? I would tell myself… I would tell myself, come on, are you ready for me, world?

And so I kept working. I kept working and I kept trying my best. And then one day… I was cast as Rose in Titanic. The most unlikely candidate, Kate from the sandwich shop in Reading, suddenly acting in one of the biggest movies ever made. You can be, you can be from anywhere and you can do anything. Believe it. It is possible to overcome your fears . What if I fail, fall over my big feet? Who cares? Be you, be you. I learned to embrace my flaws, to make no apology for who I am. I dug deep and I decided that I simply wouldn’t listen when they said that my body didn’t fit. This is who I am, the real me, Kate from Reading. And so I looked in the mirror, took a deep breath, and I said to myself, get out there, get out there and go for it.

Now, I’m not anti-teacher and I am not anti-excellence at all. Some of your teachers will be the greatest inspiration of your life, so make the most of them while you can. For me, the School of Life has been my greatest education. Your school years are years you’ll never get back, and don’t waste them, but don’t waste them feeling crushed by pressure either. Pressure to achieve the highest grades, or to conform to pressure exerted by people around you. We so easily compare ourselves to others. School can be a great time, but it can also be a very cruel time. The way not just to survive, but to thrive in these precious years of your lives is to work out who you are. Figure out what makes you truly happy, and hang on to that. Time. Take time. Hang on to it. Take that time. Time. Make time. Make the time to figure out who you really want to be.

Now, I am going to share one quick and easy idea how to do that. And you’re going to hate me for this. Put down your phone. I use my phone all the time. I do it too. I use my phone all the time, whether it’s to take photos, like most of us do, or text my mum, or look up directions. But today, social media robs us of so many of us of just basic conversation. We’re constantly distracted from being our true selves in a world that is fuelled by Insta-tweet-book-face, as I like to call it. So ask yourself, ask yourself, is your phone making you, helping you to be happy? Are you using it? Are you using it in the correct way for you? Are all those fantastic people you follow, are they having a better time than you, really? Are they making you feel unsettled or unsatisfied? Does it dent your self-esteem not to get those likes? Does it chip away at your true self? Is it even the real you? Maybe that person is a role. Perhaps you’re losing a bit of yourself. Think about that. Let’s think about that.

I get to play roles, but they aren’t real people. They really aren’t. I get red carpets, it’s fun, it’s fun to dress up, wear lipstick, but it isn’t sustainable. It’s not the real me. And being a real person is full of much more complex moments. The me that results from my life experiences, and having my eyes open, my heart broken, and from being told that I wasn’t quite right to do what I loved, is the person that has made me who I am today, talking to you with all my flaws and all my imperfections. And so perhaps for some of you, the persona that you found yourself creating online is just a version of perfect, and maybe that’s hard to step away from. So let’s take that energy and time, that precious time that you use, and let’s use that effort and make social media a good thing. Let’s make it a great thing, a thing that can be a voice for change and inspiration. Let’s stand in the way of letting it make us feel bad about ourselves.

Now, don’t get me wrong, don’t get me wrong. When it’s used in the right way, wow, it can be a powerful resource indeed. But for how many of you is it becoming a distraction from your real life? Maybe ask yourself, maybe ask yourself, do you really need to be posting that photo of your lunch? Just enjoy eating it! Life happens between the cracks, in the silences, in those moments walking out of a lesson and before you go into the next one, or just walking down the street, and it isn’t always easy, but you could be missing it. Don’t give all your time to your phone, it won’t give you the answers. Promise yourself time on a rainy day, on a sunny day, to just be, to listen, to look, to breathe. Do a sweaty sport where you can’t even hold your phone. Do an art class, dance. How about do an art class and dance with your friends, paint each other, put your phones down for a few hours, or even half a day. Just leave it behind.

And don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. You will only learn from them. Find time to dream your own dreams. Society is changing so fast, what we value is changing so fast, and it’s not easy being a teenager, is it? No, it’s not. It’s becoming harder than ever in a world of peer pressure and awful things such as cyberbullying and exposure to that unattainable aspiration. Now more than ever, it’s even harder to filter the nasties out and to escape things that might be upsetting you. So my idea, not as an expert, but simply as me, Kate from Reading, on WE Day, let’s rethink how we social share. Let’s rethink how we social share. Be kind, be wise. Let’s think about how else to share. Share a real chat with the person sitting next to you. Share stories. Share being in this moment by talking or with a hug. With a hug, everybody. I’m hugging you all.

The greatest happiness in my professional life comes when I am entirely engaged in the work that I am doing. It fills me up. It’s a happiness that I get by being utterly present with the people around me, and it rocks. Now, on a plane… On a plane, for those of you who’ve been on a plane, even those of you who haven’t, during the safety briefing, they say, “Should there be a change in cabin pressure, your oxygen mask will drop down in front of you. Fit it over your nose and mouth and breathe normally. Fit your own mask first before helping others.” Allowing yourself to breathe first doesn’t mean you aren’t able to help other people. It means you are better equipped to help them. You are allowed to take a moment. I’m taking it right now. You are allowed to take a moment, to take a deep breath. You need air in your lungs to speak up for yourself. You need breath to find your own voice and to use it mindfully. Be proud of it. You need breath to sing and to dance and to find joy in a complex world. Help yourself. Be yourself.

And listen, be the best version of your true self that you can be. Be the best version. And if… Listen, if that best doesn’t feel as fabulous as the girl or the boy who, through their social sharing, appears to be more fabulous than you are, or you feel that you are, just know this. You are being your best. And you own that. And nobody can take that away from you, ever. Ever, ever, ever. So breathe. Be present. Put down your phone every once in a while. Work to achieve your wildest dreams and get out there and be true to you. Get out there and go for it. Because your generation has the power to rock the world. Thank you. Thank you.

How to Help Students Believe in Themselves

“She’s just going to be a maid anyway.”

This was the reason given to me by a fifth grade teacher as to why I, a student teacher at the time, shouldn’t give extra help to a child who was working hard to improve her reading.

Once my shock at this disturbing statement wore off, I realized that the teacher’s beliefs and assumptions were potentially jeopardizing the quality of life and future aspirations of this student. Bar none, reading skills are essential to life. And while there is absolutely nothing wrong with domestic work, what if this student wanted to become a cancer researcher or an airline pilot or a Pixar animator?

short speech on believe in yourself for students

As educators, the most important—and rewarding—part of our work is to recognize the vast potential within our students and to help them see it within themselves, and then support them in reaching that potential.

In other words, we need to help them cultivate hope.

What is hope?

Researchers have taken hope, a somewhat ephemeral concept, and made it practical. Hope is about one’s ability to achieve goals. It has been linked to greater academic achievement, creativity, and problem-solving skills, as well as less depression and anxiety.

Hope requires two components: pathways and agency. A “pathway” is a roadmap to reaching a goal, one that is created by the student and that includes alternate routes when obstacles arise. “Agency” is the student’s belief, motivation, and confidence that they can achieve the goal.

While both pathways and agency are central to hope, new research being published soon by the journal Learning and Individual Differences suggests that agency might be the more critical part of the equation.

Dante Dixson and his co-authors found that “high hopers” (students high in agency and pathways) and “high agency thinkers” (students high in agency, but low in pathways) had better academic and psychological outcomes, including the belief about their chances of success in the future, when compared to “low hopers” (students low in agency and pathways) and “high pathway thinkers” (students high in pathways, but low in agency).

“Looking towards the future with positive expectations is a powerful force on the present as it affects present decisions, thoughts, and behaviors,” writes Dixson.

Thus, if students can cultivate agency—and, subsequently, hope—by believing in their potential success and examining how their current behaviors may affect their future, then they might engage more in school and persevere towards a more ambitious goal, especially when the road to that goal gets rocky.

Three ways to cultivate hope

While hope researchers have created a fantastic method for developing students’ pathway abilities (which I wrote about back in 2012), cultivating agency is a bit trickier because it involves a student’s history, beliefs, self-concept, and motivations. That’s a complex psychological mishmash, at best, but even so most people develop at least some sense of agency.

The key is to develop the student’s feeling of self-efficacy, or the belief that one can succeed in a task. According to Dixson, self-efficacy is the “can” phase of a task, whereas hope is the “will” phase. In other words, believing that one can accomplish a goal is vital to developing the will to do so.

“Looking towards the future with positive expectations is a powerful force on the present”

First and foremost, educators need to create an emotionally safe learning environment. Students’ desire and motivation to learn and succeed are increased when they feel safe to take risks, make mistakes , and just flat-out fail, with no fear of humiliation, shame, or other unlovely repercussions.

Research on self-efficacy suggests that building on past successes is central to believing in one’s ability to achieve in the future, as is seeing others around you succeed. However, some students may not have many accomplishments to pull upon, or they may be growing up in an environment or society where, due to circumstances beyond their control, opportunities are scarce, obstacles are abundant, and success feels elusive.

While there is no silver bullet that will solve all these challenges immediately, here are three research-based ideas for educators who view developing a student’s sense of agency as imperative to their work.

1. Become mindfully aware of what’s going on inside. In order to change our beliefs about ourselves, we have to first know what they are. But that’s the thorny thing about beliefs—we’re often not conscious of them or how they drive our choices and behaviors. This is where the practice of mindfulness can help.

According to Albert Bandura, the foremost expert on self-efficacy, people often rely on their physiological reaction to a situation or task to decide whether or not they are capable of handling it. For example, if a student experiences severe anxiety the night before giving a public speech, she may believe that she does not possess the ability to give the speech and, therefore, decide to be sick the next day.

Body Scan

Feeling tense? Feel your body relax as you try this practice

The practice of mindfulness can help us observe that our bodies or emotions are telling us something is not quite right, which then allows us to describe what we are experiencing. Just naming the experience can help us act with awareness : We can more easily identify the underlying belief that is causing this reaction, choose not to believe it (because mindfulness teaches us that we are not our thoughts), and replace it with a more positive thought. At that point, we can consciously choose a more constructive action.

Indeed, researchers found that students who have a more mindful disposition —particularly those who can observe, describe, and act with awareness—have greater self-efficacy and, thus, bounce back from failure more easily.

2. Be gentle with yourself and change your narrative. Sometimes, though, it can be difficult to develop the “acting with awareness” phase of mindfulness. (To be frank, I have found it to be a never-ending journey, as life has an uncanny way of presenting us again and again with situations we’re not quite sure how to handle.)

And for those of us who have the habit of beating ourselves up when we make mistakes or fail at a task, cultivating this ability is particularly challenging. We may be able to notice that we’re anxious and name the emotion, but overcoming the habituated belief of “I am not capable and hence a loser and therefore will never succeed at anything” can take a lot more effort.

In that moment, if students can learn to practice self-compassion , speaking kindly to themselves and realizing that making mistakes is part of the human experience, then they may be more likely to alter their beliefs. Indeed, one study found that students who judged themselves had a weaker sense of self-efficacy , whereas self-compassionate students had more.

Self-Compassion Break

Self-Compassion Break

A healthier way to deal with stressful situations

But it’s not enough to soothe yourself with kindness. Changing the underlying belief or narrative that caused the emotional upset is also required. In the same study that linked mindfulness to self-efficacy, the researchers found that positive reappraisal of a situation—a form of positive self-talk , a technique that hope researchers have discovered is used by “high hopers”—related to one’s ability to bounce back from failure.

Take the student who mindfully overcame her anxiety to give her speech. What if she still doesn’t do very well? Rather than getting overwhelmed with a feeling of failure, she might instead remind herself that many people fear public speaking more than death and that giving speeches takes practice—and then she might go easy on herself and pat herself on the back for actually doing it!

3. Check our own narratives about students. I’d like to think the fifth grade teacher I mentioned at the beginning would be horrified if she knew the potential impact of her statement on the student’s personal and academic life. After all, the relationship between educators and students is the heart of teaching—and research shows again and again the tremendous effect, both short- and long-term, this relationship has on students.

Yet it takes work to make what might be unconscious conscious , and to know what may be most helpful to students.

To start, educators should take note of whether they hold a deficit mindset about one or more of their students. In other words, is the focus on students’ weaknesses—or their strengths? But we need to go beyond thinking about just the student, and consider our beliefs within the larger socio-political context .

For example, Jeff Duncan-Andrade argues that when we believe all students can be successful if they just work hard enough—e.g., show grit or play by the rules—then we might not be acknowledging structural impediments to the success of marginalized students. This, writes Duncan-Andrade, “largely delegitimizes the pain that urban youth experience as a result of a persistently unequal society.”

Instead, Duncan-Andrade suggests that educators need to stand with the youth and the communities they serve, humanizing and sharing the burden of their despair and rage. More than that, teachers need to work against the ideology that privileges some over others.

“We cannot treat our students as ‘other people’s children,’” writes Duncan-Andrade. “Their pain is our pain.”

Every student deserves the chance and has the right to explore their glorious potential.

Helping our students to believe in themselves when perhaps no one else does and working with them to cultivate hope where seemingly there is none are two of the greatest gifts educators can offer to our youth.

The Power of Believing in Yourself

Certainly! Here’s a simple speech topic that can motivate students for a school morning assembly:

Title: “The Power of Believing in Yourself”

Good morning everyone,

Today, I would like to talk about a topic that is close to our hearts and has the potential to create a significant impact in our lives. It’s about the power of believing in ourselves.

Belief is a powerful force. It is the foundation upon which dreams are built, and it has the ability to propel us towards success. When we believe in ourselves, incredible things can happen. It’s that unwavering faith in our abilities that drives us to overcome challenges, face adversity, and strive for excellence.

Believing in ourselves means recognizing our own worth and understanding that we are capable of achieving great things. It means acknowledging our unique strengths, talents, and potential. It is about embracing the fact that we all have something valuable to contribute to the world.

Think about some of the most accomplished individuals in history. From inventors and scientists to artists and leaders, they all had one thing in common: a strong belief in themselves and their abilities. They dared to dream big and pursued their goals with unwavering determination.

Believing in yourself doesn’t mean that you will never encounter obstacles or experience setbacks. In fact, it is during these challenging moments that self-belief becomes even more crucial. It gives us the strength to persevere, to learn from our failures, and to keep moving forward.

So, how can we nurture this belief in ourselves?

First and foremost, surround yourself with positive influences. Seek out mentors, teachers, and friends who believe in you and support your aspirations. Their encouragement can make a world of difference.

Next, set realistic goals for yourself. Break them down into smaller, manageable steps. Celebrate your achievements along the way, no matter how small they may seem. Each step forward reinforces your belief in your abilities.

Additionally, embrace failure as a learning opportunity. Remember, failure is not a reflection of your worth or potential. It is simply a stepping stone on the path to success. Learn from it, adjust your approach, and keep going.

Finally, practice self-care and self-compassion. Take care of your physical and mental well-being. Celebrate your strengths and accept your imperfections. Treat yourself with kindness and believe that you are deserving of success.

In conclusion, dear friends, believe in yourself. Embrace your unique talents, strengths, and dreams. Have the courage to pursue your passions and overcome obstacles. With self-belief, you have the power to achieve anything you set your mind to.

Thank you, and have a wonderful day filled with belief and limitless possibilities!

Believe In Yourself – Inspirational Speech – Transcript:

Why is it we don’t believe it ourselves? That as soon as things get tough in our lives we start doubting ourselves We start thinking that we may not make it Stressing, worrying, imagining things that may go wrong in the future

We need to understand, the human mind is the most powerful tool we own, but it can also be the most DESTRUCTIVE… And we need to learn how to take control of the direction of our mind and our emotions

You mind is going to provide you your greatest challenges in life, because it is so powerful So, if you can conquer your mind, you can pretty much conquer anything else around you, literally.

When writing the story of your life – make sure YOU hold the pen. Make sure not only that you hold the pen, but you write the script from your heart. Be brave when writing your script, it’s your story and there are NO LIMITS to what you can have, what you can do or what you can be. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({ google_ad_client: "ca-pub-1604773209528901", enable_page_level_ads: true });

How bad do you want it? You have to prove it to yourself that you want it bad enough, it’s gotta hurt you not to get it. And that’s when you’re going to learn to conquer your mind. Your mind will no longer be able to say no, because your inner heart and mind are aligned, and now NOTHING can stop you!

It’s easy to be all positive and consistent when everything is going your way But that’s not life, that’s not realistic! Are you going to be one of the very few to stand up when things are tough, when everything is going against you. Will you be able to believe in what’s right, and what brings results to your life. THAT’S WHEN YOUR CHARACTER WILL SHINE! THAT’S WHEN YOUR STORY WILL BE BORN! YOUR story is valuable! YOUR story of success!

You can’t build a STORY if you stop now. If you give up. The world is full of people who gave up. THE WORLD NEEDS HOPE. WE ALL DO. The world needs you to STAND UP – to fight through your challenging moments, To SHINE through the dark times To love through the hate, and to be the difference in an indifferent world. To BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

Most people are bloated with ordinary thoughts and mindsets They’re so full of average that they have no more appetite But you have to have an appetite for EXTRAORDINARY Beyond what people are doing – think beyond them

THERE WILL ALWAYS BE DOUBTERS, and people below you, and people trying to put you down so they can feel higher, but you gotta STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF. BELIEVE in your mind. Have some tunnel vision. Then one day you will have your moment. Because ANYTHING is possible if you just BELIEVE!

FEED your DREAMS. If you can suffer through setbacks, through pain, RISE up with resilience once again, and again, and again! ONE DAY THIS WORLD WILL TAP YOU ON THE SHOULDER & say…
“This is your time to shine” YOU CAN HAVE BE AND DO ANYTHING YOU WANT You just have to believe

Motivational Speech to Know your Worth

motivational speaker

Many people are incredibly talented, and they don't even know it.

Their potential is limited not by their circumstances but by their internal assessment of themselves. Self-doubt will leave you precariously clawing at the world to give you any sign of significance.  Some people can become desperate and clingy. They are hoping for any accolade to make them feel worthy.

Below is a motivational speech you can read to yourself (or others) that will inspire you to know your worth. Read it, write it out again, say it out loud, watch the YouTube video. Repetition is critical to crowd out negative, doubtful thoughts. Replace them with thoughts that believe in your self-worth.

Anytime you look outside yourself for your value, you instigate self-doubt. It's like telling yourself you don't matter, but perhaps someone else can assess you and give you meaning.  What you are forgetting is that your worth is inside you. Only you can determine it.

Today we rely heavily on others likes on social media to give us a boost of self-worth. It's making us long for something that someone else can't give us. Only you can determine your worth. And you should. If doubt holds you back, you need to build yourself back up.

Deeply embroiled in our stress response is a trigger that has you doubt yourself. It's automatic, and it instantly makes you question yourself. Deep in our survival instinct are mechanisms that have us protect ourselves. Fear causes us to shy away from situations that too risky and make us question ourselves. Fear is a strong emotion that most people flee. Don't let fear get it's way.

If you don't know your worth, you are in a very precarious position.

Short Motivational Speech - You know your worth

Anytime you look outside yourself to determine your value, your looking in the wrong place.

Look inside you. You know your worth. Your value is inside you.

Nobody can take it away from you. Nobody can take it away because it's yours.

When you look to others for validation or signs of significance, you weaken yourself. They don't know you. You know you.

When you want approval from others, you weaken your resolve.

When you need approval from others, you go further from your truth.

When you need approval from others, you do things for the wrong reasons.

Your value is in you. Know your worth. Don't let anyone ever tear you down. Build yourself back up. Don't let other people put their self-doubt inside you. It's their not yours.

Let go of limiting beliefs and grab onto hope. Trust.

You can't ask for something new and expect nothing to change. Let go of the doubts that hold you back. Let go of fears that consume. Let go of needing others approval.

Within you right now is all that you need to accomplish what you want. In you right now is all you need to be happy and prosperous.

When something you don't like happens, negative limiting and draining energy will bring you down.

Now you must lift your energy back up. Don't let stress have its way with you.

When something doesn't feel right.

When you feel heavy.

When people's words make you feel bad. Run. Leave.

They don't Determine your Worth. You do.

Protect your value. Don't let other people's negativity lead you astray.

You can clear your energy through your mind. When someone or something puts doubt or fear in you, turn it into hope.

Your thoughts are powerful. You are powerful.

Some days you will need extra motivation. Say inspiring thoughts to yourself every day. Alter how you think.

Your thoughts create your future.

Turn doubt into hope

Turn fear into a belief

Turn resentment into love.

You create the future you deserve. Nobody else does

You're on the right track.

Don't let doubt bring you down.

Don't let others doubt make you hide.

Trust yourself.

Trust your value.

Know your worth.

Immerse yourself in patience. Keep believing in yourself.

Your mind is powerful. Everything happens because of your thoughts.

That's why you need to believe in yourself.

You limit yourself through your thoughts. You define your future because of your thoughts.

Protect your thoughts.

Deny negative people in your life.

Do things that inspire you. Believe in yourself today.

Chose to experience something different. Life is full of possibilities. Forget what others tell you. Tell yourself how important you are.

Tell others about your dreams. Believe in yourself; feel your power. Know your worth.

Essay on Believe in Yourself :

Believing in oneself is often cited as one of the most important factors for achieving success. It is the foundation upon which all other aspects of personal growth and development are built. Yet, many struggle with self-doubt and lack of confidence, hindering their ability to achieve their goals and dreams. In this essay, we will explore the concept of self-belief and its crucial role in achieving success.

What is self-belief?

Self-belief can be defined as having confidence in one’s abilities and worth. It is a deep-seated belief that you are capable of accomplishing your goals and overcoming challenges. It is not about being arrogant or overestimating oneself, but rather having a realistic understanding of your strengths and potential. Self-belief is also closely linked to self-esteem, which refers to how you perceive and value yourself.

The power of self-belief

Believing in oneself has the power to shape our thoughts, actions, and ultimately our destiny. It gives us the motivation and determination to pursue our dreams despite obstacles and setbacks. When we have a strong sense of self-belief, we are more likely to take risks and push ourselves out of our comfort zones. This opens up new opportunities for growth and success.

On the other hand, lacking self-belief can lead to feelings of fear, doubt, and insecurity. This can hold us back from reaching our full potential and living a fulfilling life. Without self-belief, we may settle for less than what we are capable of and miss out on opportunities for growth and achievement.

Building self-belief

The good news is that self-belief is not a fixed trait. It can be nurtured and developed with conscious effort. Here are some ways to cultivate a strong sense of self-belief:

  • Recognize your strengths and achievements: Take time to reflect on your past successes and the qualities that helped you achieve them. This will remind you of your capabilities and boost your confidence.
  • Surround yourself with positive influences: The people we surround ourselves with can greatly impact our self-belief. Choose to spend time with those who support and uplift you, rather than those who bring you down.
  • Challenge negative thoughts: We all have an inner critic that can undermine our confidence. When you notice negative self-talk, challenge it and replace it with positive affirmations.
  • Set achievable goals: Setting and achieving realistic goals is a great way to build self-belief. Start small and gradually work towards bigger goals as you gain more confidence in yourself.
  • Celebrate your progress: Acknowledge and celebrate your progress, no matter how small. This will help you stay motivated and reinforce your belief in your abilities.

The role of self-belief in success

Self-belief is often considered the key to achieving success because it provides the necessary foundation for taking action towards our goals. Without a strong sense of belief in ourselves, we may lack the courage and determination to pursue our dreams. In contrast, when we truly believe in ourselves and our abilities, we are more likely to take the necessary steps towards success.

Moreover, self-belief also helps us bounce back from failures and setbacks. It allows us to learn from our mistakes and use them as stepping stones towards future success. As famous basketball player Michael Jordan once said, “I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not trying.”

In conclusion, self-belief is a vital ingredient for achieving success in any aspect of life. It gives us the courage, motivation, and resilience to pursue our dreams and overcome challenges. While it may not come naturally to everyone, self-belief can be developed through conscious effort and practice. So, believe in yourself and your abilities, and you will be amazed by what you can achieve. As the saying goes, “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.” So, choose to believe in yourself and see how it transforms your life for the better.

Short Speech on Believe in Yourself:

As we go through our daily lives, we encounter various challenges that may seem impossible to overcome. In such situations, it is important to have self-belief and confidence in ourselves. Believe in yourself is more than just a phrase, it is a mindset that can help us achieve great things.

When we believe in ourselves, we are able to push through obstacles and setbacks, and work towards our goals with determination. It allows us to stay focused on the positive aspects of our lives and not get discouraged by failures.

Moreover, when we have faith in ourselves, it inspires others around us to believe in themselves as well. As leaders, it is important for us to instill this belief in those around us, especially in times of uncertainty.

Believe in yourself also means acknowledging our strengths and weaknesses, and constantly working on improving ourselves. It is about having a growth mindset and not being afraid to take risks.

In conclusion, having self-belief is essential for personal growth and success. Let us remember to always believe in ourselves, no matter what challenges come our way. As Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right.” So let us choose to believe in ourselves and strive towards achieving our dreams. The possibilities are endless when we have faith in ourselves.

If you Believe in Yourself anything is Possible Essay:

As human beings, we all have dreams and aspirations that we want to achieve in life. These goals may vary from person to person, but they are ultimately what motivate us to strive for excellence. However, the path towards achieving our dreams is not always smooth. There will be obstacles and challenges along the way that can make us doubt ourselves and our abilities.

In such moments, it is important to remind ourselves that if we believe in ourselves, anything is possible.

Believing in oneself means having confidence and faith in our own abilities. It means acknowledging our strengths and weaknesses and trusting that we have what it takes to overcome any difficulties that come our way. When we truly believe in ourselves, we are able to turn our dreams into reality because we have the determination and perseverance to keep pushing forward, even when things get tough.

One of the main reasons why believing in ourselves is so crucial is because it allows us to take risks and step out of our comfort zones. Without self-belief, we may hesitate to pursue opportunities or try new things because we are afraid of failure. However, if we have faith in ourselves, we are more willing to take chances and explore different paths. And even if we do fail, we are able to bounce back stronger because our self-belief gives us the courage to keep going.

Moreover, when we believe in ourselves, we are not easily swayed by the opinions or judgments of others. We trust our own judgment and decisions, which allows us to stay true to ourselves and our goals. This is essential in a world where there will always be people who doubt us or try to bring us down. By believing in ourselves, we are able to rise above these negative influences and stay focused on what truly matters.

How to Believe in Yourself

Discover science-based tips to start believing in yourself..

Updated December 12, 2023 | Reviewed by Devon Frye

Photo by Andrew Wise on Unsplash

When we believe in ourselves, it can help us achieve our goals , manifest our dreams , and increase our well-being. But the flip side is also true. Lack of belief in ourselves means we are less likely to act, to change, or to push to make things better. In fact, when we expect we will fail, we are actually more likely to fail (Bénabou & Tirole, 2002).

That means that believing in ourselves is kind of like the key that turns the ignition and starts the car. We can't really go anywhere without it. Try as we might to push ourselves forward, we're blocked because our thoughts, attitudes, and actions aren't in alignment with our goals. So, we either don't do what we need to do or we sabotage ourselves along the way, sometimes in obvious ways and sometimes in unconscious ways.

So, how do you believe in yourself?

Believing in yourself includes things like self-worth , self-confidence , self-trust, autonomy, and environmental mastery.

  • Self-worth is the sense that you have value as a human being.
  • Self-confidence is a positive attitude about your abilities, qualities, and judgment.
  • Self-trust is faith that you can rely on yourself.
  • Autonomy is feeling able to choose and direct your own behavior.
  • Environmental mastery is your belief that your efforts will result in the changes you desire.

These are some of the key components involved in believing in yourself. Maybe you struggle with just one of them or maybe you struggle with all of them. By understanding where your struggles lie, it'll be easier to start shifting your attitudes about yourself.

Questions to Ask Yourself

Ask yourself these questions to better understand if there are things that are getting in the way of you believing in yourself:

  • Self-worth: Do you value yourself as a human being? Do you agree that you're no worse than any other person?
  • Self-confidence: Do you feel good about your skills, strengths , and abilities? Do you feel good about your personal qualities? Do you feel good about your judgment and level of indecisiveness ?
  • Self-trust: Can you rely on yourself? Can you trust that you'll do what you say you'll do?
  • Autonomy: Do you feel free to do what you want to do? Do you believe that no one can stop you from reaching your dreams ?
  • Environmental mastery: When you take action, do you believe that it will lead to the results you desire? Do you believe that you're able to get the things you want?

If you answered "no" or were leaning towards "no" to any of these questions, those are likely the areas that thwart your ability to believe in yourself. Spend some time thinking more about how you might shift these self-beliefs to believe in yourself more.

Change your self-talk

Once you've identified your unsupportive self-beliefs, question these beliefs by talking back to your inner voice . If you feel like you have no value, tell yourself, "You are a valuable, amazing, person who deserves to live a good life." Or, if you don't feel confident, remind yourself of your positive qualities and skills.

Positive self-talk like this has been shown to improve our performance (Tod, Hardy, & Oliver, 2011). By saying positive things to ourselves, we can start to rewrite our internal scripts. We can slowly but surely start to develop new scripts in our minds that are a bit more like cheerleaders and a bit less like jerks. And this helps us shift our beliefs.

Build self-trust

We often think of trust as something we have for others. But we can also have trust in ourselves. Having (or not having) this trust in ourselves has similar implications as having (or not having) trust in others. For example, when we trust someone, we're honest with them, we can count on them, and we are confident in them doing what's best for us.

So what might it mean when we don't trust ourselves? Well, maybe we don't want to be honest with ourselves because we're not sure what we'll do with that information. Maybe we can't count on ourselves to do the things we tell ourselves we'll do. Or, maybe we're afraid that we'll do things to harm ourselves instead of help ourselves.

short speech on believe in yourself for students

It may sound odd when spelled out like this, but many of us do indeed have self-trust issues. For example, maybe we've told ourselves a thousand times that we are going to start exercising... but we never do it. So how likely is it that we'd trust ourselves to start a new exercise program? Not very likely.

Here are some tips to start building trust within yourself:

  • Do what you say you're going to do. Maybe this means reducing your number of commitments, learning to say "no," or setting stronger boundaries . Experiment if you need to see what you need to do to stick to your word.
  • Be honest with yourself. Engage in self-reflection to get to the truth of what you really think, feel, and need in life. Try not to focus so much on what other people want you to do.
  • Do what you believe is right. Live your values and follow your inner compass. If you're on a path that is true to you, then it'll likely be easier to believe in your ability to walk it.
  • Be clear. Get clearer about who you are and what you want. Know the things you are willing to do and the things you are not. That way you can trust yourself to make good decisions and communicate them effectively.

Believing in ourselves involves a bit more than just forcing ourselves to develop self-love and start pursuing our goals. It's more a matter of seeing where we're stuck and compassionately exploring how to get unstuck. Hopefully, these were some useful tips to get started.

Speech on Self Love

Self-love is like a seed planted within you. It’s all about cherishing who you are, embracing your unique qualities, and appreciating your own worth. It’s the way you treat yourself in your quiet moments, and how you navigate the world around you.

When you start loving yourself, you build a more positive outlook. You feel confident, content, and ready to face life’s challenges. This is the beauty and power of self-love.

1-minute Speech on Self Love

Good day, everyone.

Today, we are here to talk about a very important topic – ‘Self Love.’ It’s not about being selfish or self-centered, it’s about taking care of ourselves. Just like we water a plant so it can grow, we need to love ourselves to grow as a person.

First, let’s understand what self-love is. It’s like being your own best friend. It’s about accepting who you are, the way you are. It’s about being happy with yourself, your qualities, your faults, everything. We all make mistakes, but we should not forget to forgive ourselves. That’s self-love.

Second, why is self-love so important? Well, when we love ourselves, we feel good. We feel happy. And when we are happy, we can make others happy too. When we love ourselves, we take care of our body, our mind, our heart. That way, we can stay healthy and strong.

But, how can we love ourselves? It’s not very hard. We can start by doing things that make us happy. It could be playing a game, reading a book, painting, anything. We should take out time for what we love. We should also keep saying positive things to ourselves, like “I am good”, “I can do this”, because words have a lot of power.

In the end, I want to say, loving ourselves is a journey, not a destination. So, let’s embark on this journey today. Let’s promise to be kind and gentle with ourselves. Let’s promise to love ourselves, because we are special, we are unique, we are worth it.

2-minute Speech on Self Love

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, today we speak about a topic that is often overlooked, yet very important – self love. Now, what is self love? It is the act of caring about ourselves, just like we care about our favourite toy or our best friend. It’s looking in the mirror and saying, “I am good, I am important, and I matter.”

Let’s start with why self love is important. When we love ourselves, we feel happy. We feel strong, like we can do anything. We also feel good about the people around us. It makes us want to help others and be kind. When we love ourselves, we can spread that love to everyone we meet.

But how do we learn to love ourselves? It might seem hard, but it’s not. Start by looking at the things you are good at. Maybe you’re a great dancer, or you’re good at math, or you can run very fast. Remember those things. They’re a part of who you are, and they’re things to be proud of.

And what about the things you’re not so good at? That’s okay too. Nobody is perfect. When you make a mistake, don’t get upset. Instead, think about what you can learn from it. Mistakes are not bad. They help us grow. They help us become better.

Now, let’s talk about feelings. Sometimes, we feel sad or angry. That’s normal. It’s okay to have feelings, and it’s okay to express them. Don’t hide your feelings. Instead, understand them, learn from them, and let them guide you. Your feelings are a part of you, and they deserve your love too.

Finally, remember to take care of your body. Eat healthy foods. Get plenty of rest. Play outside. Your body works hard for you every day, and it deserves your care and respect.

In conclusion, self love is not about being selfish, or only caring about yourself. It’s about understanding yourself, accepting yourself, and taking care of yourself. When we love ourselves, we can love others too. So, let’s promise today, to show ourselves a little more love, every single day. Because you, yes you, are worth it.

Memorable 2-Minute Speeches: How to Write & Deliver (With Examples)

Giving 2-minute speech

Giving memorable 2-minute speeches are tricker than giving 2-minute speeches.

Speeches are an effective way to share your understanding, opinion, or perspective on a topic. It doesn’t matter if your speech is for 2 minutes, 10 minutes, or 50 minutes, the main essence of any speech is to reach the audience .

2-minute speeches are quite effective if presented in a well-structured manner. In fact, giving 2-minute speeches can also help you improve your public speaking skills. And that is the reason why schools ask the students to give 2-minute speeches for every assignment!

Now we understand you might have tons of questions when it comes to 2-minute speeches, but fret not, we’ve got you covered. Read till the end of the blog to get a more comprehensive idea about 2-minute speeches.

Also, check out our video here if you want a very short glimpse of the article:

Is a 2-minute speech too short?

2-minute speeches come under the category of short speeches. So ideally 2 minute speeches are short speeches . But when we say is it too short? Then the answer will be subjective.

For instance, If you are to present your research findings then a 2-minute speech would not do justice to years of your work. But at the same time if you are giving a self-introduction then 2 minute speeches are more than enough!

How long is a 2-minute speech?

To understand how long 2-minute speeches should be, you need to understand your pace of speaking which is the number of words spoken per minute.   An average person usually speaks about 130-150 words per minute . So for 2-minute speeches, 260-300 words should be sufficient.

When it comes to the number of pages for a 2-minute speech, then your speech can be half to one page long . It all depends on the font size that you use!

Similarly, the number of sentences that would make up a 2-minute speech can vary depending on the font size that you use or your handwriting.

Writing 2-minute speeches

1. choose a topic.

The very first step in writing your speech is to know what you want to talk about, which is your topic !

You can either come up with the topic yourself or you can search for a broad topic on the internet and then narrow it down as per your liking.

So if for example, you are writing a 2-minute speech on unity as strength , you may want to focus on a particular instance wherein unity shown by people worked as their strength and helped them achieve a goal, like a freedom struggle.

2. Decide on your takeaway

If you are wondering what takeaways are, then they are your answer to the question “why are you presenting this particular topic to the audience?”

For some the answer could be, to educate, give another perspective on a widely studied topic, or even awaken the audience to take action .

In 2 minute speeches, the clock ticks faster so you should ideally focus on only 1 takeaway .

Once you have figured out why you want to present the topic to your audience or listeners, you can then move to the next stage of research.

3. Research for your speech

When you begin researching for 2 minutes speeches, you don’t have to get into tons of details . The idea is to give the audience enough information to understand your topic within a short time.

For starters, you can browse your topic on Google , YouTube , Instagram , and other social media channels. You might also want to research some facts or statistics related to your topic as it increases the credibility of your speech.

4. Structure your speech

There are 3 things to be kept in mind while structuring your speech. They are ethos, pathos, and logos.

Ethos means credibility . It is concerned with giving the audience a reason to believe in you. So, if your speech is about the impact of gaming on violent behavior, mentioning that you are a psychologist would add credibility to your speech.

Pathos is related to emotions . The idea is to connect with the listeners through emotions. And the easiest way to do that is through stories !

In the example above, you can share a story of a client who developed violent behavior patterns after spending a considerable amount of time on gaming and how they are doing now.

Logos means logic . Adding logical elements like facts, statistics, and quotes by famous personalities helps drive your main idea forward in a more rational sense.

Again, taking the example of the impact of gaming on violent behavior, logos could include a sentence like:

School shootings have increased from 11 in 2009 to 93 in 2021. It is a staggering number and when you take a deeper look into it, you’ll find that a considerable number of these shooters were addicted to gaming.

Editing is something we believe is a very crucial part of giving a memorable 2-minute speech. Why?

Because 2-minute speeches aren’t only about what you say but also about what you choose not to say.

Editing also helps you focus on your topic more clearly rather than drifting or diversifying your topic.

Delivering 2-minute Speeches

1. establish your takeaway.

Since you had already decided on your takeaway while writing the speech, you are well aware of it. But does your audience have any idea yet? No!

While they might infer why you are presenting the particular topic after listening to your speech, you cannot leave it to that.

Establish your takeaway right at the beginning of your speech , so that the audience also understands what they can expect from your speech.

2. How to begin a 2 minute Speech (Simple beginning)

This might come as a shocker, especially because we are always told to begin with a Bang!

For 2-minute speeches, if you end up spending a lot of your time on the beginning, you will have to shorten the main content of your speech.

Starting in a simple and direct manner suits best in such cases.

A few ways in which you can begin your 2-minute speeches are given below:

If you are to introduce yourself, you can begin simply by saying your name. “Good afternoon everyone, I am Xyz…”

You can also use ethos, pathos, and logos to begin your 2-minute speeches.

“Mumbai is known for 2 things gateway of India and potholes. Being someone who has lost a close friend of mine due to the careless work done towards these potholes , I’m here to address the issue we so conveniently drive over”
“About a year ago, in this very month of July, it was raining heavily in Mumbai. I remember this because there happened to be a friend of mine who was supposed to meet me for a meeting, we had that day, but he didn’t make it. The reason? Heavily flooded roads covered with potholes that he couldn’t see. A tragic accident or a convenient murder?”
“In 2018, Mumbai alone witnessed 522 accidents caused by potholes”

3. Emphasize

Repeating or rather stressing certain words gives rhythm to your speech. It also helps in easy learning and increases the chance of easy recall among the audience.

4. How to End a 2 Minute Speech

When it comes to 2-minute speeches, your conclusion or closing lines are very important. The reason is that your audience will mostly remember the last part of your speech better than the rest .

Make sure to restate the takeaway and main crux of your speech . You can also end your speech by quoting some famous personalities . In many speeches, the speaker asks the audience to take action or to think about a question that they leave the audience with.

So, we now know how your phone helps you socialize but keeps you away from the same people physically. We have been living in this virtual world for quite some time now. The least you can do is to keep your technology aside especially when you are with people you care about. An hour without your phone won’t hurt, will it?

Impromptu 2-minute speeches

Impromptu speeches are ones where you are given the topic on the spot with little to no time to prepare for the speech. In such cases, you barely have any time to go about carrying out thorough research and structuring your speech.

Rather you can keep a few frameworks in your mind and then structure the speech accordingly on the spot. This is the most convenient way of delivering effective impromptu 2-minute speeches.

A few frameworks that you can use for your 2-minute impromptu speeches are:

1. PREP model

PREP stands for Point, Reason, Example, and Point . This essentially means that you begin by talking about something, then give a reason that justifies that point. You then follow it with an example to back your point and end by repeating the point to reach your audience in a structured manner.

2. WWW model

No, WWW doesn’t stand for World Wide Web. Rather it means answering 3 questions,

  • Who are you?
  • What do you do?
  • Where are you going from here?

WWW works best when you have to give an impromptu introduction of yourself .

An example of using the WWW model to introduce yourself is given below.

Hello everyone, I am Arsh M, a fashion designer, and advocate of sustainability. During my college years, I was astonished by the amount of cloth waste produced each day. Upon researching, I realized that the fashion industry happens to be one of the biggest polluters in the world. This motivated me to work towards bringing more sustainable styling choices for everyone. That is when I began my venture in Sustainaesthetic. We are a completely sustainable and animal cruelty-free brand that aims to provide you with diverse sustainable styling options at a very affordable rate so that saving the planet doesn’t hurt your pockets!

3. Pointer Format

As the name suggests, the pointer format involves dividing your content into 3-5 points . This will make it easier for you to talk about each point for a couple of seconds before moving to the next. At the same time, it sounds very structured and may be easy to recall.

An example of a pointer format is a speech given the by CEO of Pepsico Indra Nooyi .

Famous 2-minute speeches

1. indra nooyi.

The speech given by Pepsico’s CEO is well-written and spoken . She begins by appreciating India, her home country, and then moves on to briefly talk about her 3 life lessons. Diving her speech into such crisp segments with an introduction, 3 pointers and finally, a conclusion, makes the speech very comprehensive and structured .

2. Denzel Washington

The speech given by Denzel Washington is one of the most motivating speeches of all time . It is because of the way he calmly delivers the speech by taking required pauses to stress the important lines.

2-minute speeches from movies

Speeches in movies usually bring out the emotion of awe, inspiration, or sympathy . We will look at two such 2-minute inspirational speeches from movies.

1. Any Given Sunday

The scene on any given day is worth noting for its storytelling approach . Al Pacino begins his speech with brutal honesty when he says “ We are in hell gentlemen.”

He then goes on to talk about how the game is very similar to everyone’s life and emphasizes being at the right place at the right time.

“One second early or one second late, you miss a catch,” he says. In the latter half of his speech, he increases his voice as if trying to reach his player’s very core, in an attempt to motivate them to do their level best in the game.

2. Coach Carter

This speech scene of Coach Carter is unlike other traditional scenes where the coach inspires his students. Rather, one of the students gives a very short speech that moves not only his teammates but also his teacher.

It can also be counted as a very effective thank you speech!

Monologues happen to be yet another powerful tool used in 2-minute speeches from movies. Monologues are long dialogues given by a single character. Let’s take a look at some of the most striking monologues given in movies

2-minute dramatic monologue for male

When it comes to dramatic monologues for males, the dialogue is often very inspiring or tries to instill the right amount of motivation among the team players or the soldiers. Let us take a look at 2 such dramatic monologues given by male characters in movies that had an amazing impact on their audience.

1. V for Vendetta

V for vendetta isn’t only an amazing movie, but this monologue by V is out of the ordinary. In the scene, V introduces himself to a woman whom he had just saved.

He uses alliteration by introducing himself with words that start with V. Check out the exact dialogue to get a clearer idea about the monologue.

V oila! In v iew, a humble v audevillian v eteran is cast v icariously as both v ictim and v illain by the v icissitudes of fate. This v isage, no mere v eneer of v anity, is a v estige of v ox populi, now v acant, v anished. However, this v alorous v isitation of a bygone v exation stands v ivified and had v owed to v anquish these v enal and v irulent v ermin v anguarding v ice and v ouchsafing the v iolently v icarious and v iolation of v olition…. You may call me V.

2. Wolf of Wallstreet

Who hasn’t heard of this amazing movie, wolf of wall street? One thing that we will observe when it comes to this movie is that the main lead had amazing public speaking skills . He had the power to persuade his listeners and encourage them to chip in at their level best for the growth of the organization.

In one such speech, he talks about how he isn’t leaving them and that he is here to stay.

The use of dramatic suspense followed by his change in tone and voice is something worth noting.

2-minute dramatic monologue for female

When it comes to dramatic monologues given by female characters in movies, 2 of these scenes come into our minds. The scenes are both beautifully written and executed by the actors.

1. Devil Wears Prada

In the movie Devil Wears Prada, the monologue is given by Meryl Streep who plays the role of Miranda Priestly. The speech is worth noting as she dramatically explains how even a small difference between two pieces of clothing to a lay person is a big difference for the fashion moguls as it is their opportunity to create millions!

Her passion for the industry is quite evident from the 2-minute speech. Further, the way her character picks up the pace when she talks about the reality of the fashion industry brings out her annoyance at the assistant and acts as a way of showing authority through words.

The movie 300 features a small scene where the queen requests the councilmen to send more men to war, to help not only her husband but also all the others who are already a part of it.

We see the use of ethos in the speech when the queen says the following statement:

I come to you as a mother. I come to you as a wife. I come to you as a spartan woman.

Examples of 2-minute speeches

If you are looking for some examples for your next 2-minute speech or 2-minute speeches to memorize, check out the ones given below!

How to introduce yourself in 2 minutes?

When you have to introduce yourself in 2-minutes, it is better to follow a simple structure of past, and present.

An example of introducing yourself as a fresher for a job interview has been given below

Good afternoon, I am Arya Rose. I recently graduated from ABC college, majoring in Analytics. Growing up I had always found immense interest in math and had also won Olympiads at the school level. During my under graduation, I had taken up a course in tools for Data Analysis which made me realize my inclination toward analytics. It also encouraged me to pursue my major in the field of analytics.

Being an active member of my college, I made sure to participate in and represent my college across various events and intercollegiate festivals. I also had the chance to be a part of Hackin which is ABC’s elite Hackathon team. With the Team, we stood 2nd at Hackified, a hackathon organized by QPR college.

I was further able to put my theoretical knowledge to use by interning with this amazing organization called ANAlysis. The internship spanned over 3 months and I was able to gain an in-depth understanding of software like R and Python.

I now look forward to gaining more practical experience in the field by working and growing with your esteemed organization.

2 minute thank you speech

There are a few things that you must keep in your mind while you are giving a thank you speech.

  • Acknowledge the people around you
  • Thank them
  • Introduce yourself or why you are giving this speech.
  • Individually thank every person required.
  • Add some inspiring or heartfelt closing marks

An example of a 2-minute thank you speech for an event is given below.

I’d like to first thank every one of you present here, for joining us to make this event an absolute success. To those of you who might not know, I am Shiya M, the editor of the XYZ club and the coordinator of this amazing open mic event “Mehar.” Mehar means blessing in Punjabi, and there is a reason behind it.

On my very first day at XYZ, I was stunned to see the company ritual. Before leaving we were to recall one blessing that we received that day from our colleagues. As unusual as it felt, it was beyond measure one of the most beautiful rituals I had come across. You see in this fast-moving world, we tend to focus a lot on our busy schedule for the things we don’t have. And in all that chaos, we forget to take a look at the n number of blessings showered our way.

So, we wanted to provide a platform where you could do that, even if it was for a couple of hours.

I’d like to thank Ms. T, founder of XYZ, and her immense support and encouragement throughout, Arya and Daven for working closely with all the participants and audience members, ensuring that all your needs were met. I’d also like to thank Mr. Ajay for the technical support provided to him and how can we not thank Jay for being our lead guitarist, tuning in the vibe of this small room as per each participant’s requirement, Jay thank you!

Thank you to all the participants for presenting such beautifully written pieces, we enjoyed them all. A great round of applause for our participants!

Last, I’d like to thank our dear audience for being patient and for motivating all our speakers today you have been the most amazing audience we have ever seen!

Thank you again all of you, it was a great pleasure interacting with every one of you.

meher rakhi!

Humorous 2-minute speeches

If you are trying to understand how to add humor to your speech and make it more fun as well as casual, check out the 2-minute speech example given below.

2-minute humorous speech by bridesmaid

“Hello everyone, first of all, I’d like to begin quite humbly by thanking everyone present for gathering here to celebrate the union of this beautiful couple Jess and Jim.

Now if you know jess, you know me. Because I pretty much tag along with her everywhere. Just like those lice in your hair, can’t leave her alone!

At 5, I had taken up responsibility. It was to protect this absolutely beautiful soul. But as we grew up, it turned out that she was the one who protected me. What the turn tables!

Jess, I’m grateful every day to have such an amazing sister like you in my life who motivates me to do better and talk to “decent” guys..pst they are just not my type!

You’ve been my mom at times, waiting at the door every time I’d get late which makes me wonder if mom outsourced her strictness to you? And if yes, why not me? I was the broke kid!

I’m going to miss those small things you know? How you told me it was chocolate powder when it was coffee, how I never won a game I played with you because you never played it fair, and oh how you never missed complimenting my outfit when I was wearing your clothes!

But seriously, I’m going to miss you tons. I hope you get your fairytale happily ever after! To Jess and Jim!

As the time is short, focusing too much on the opening lines or in-depth research will steal your time. Instead, focus on a takeaway and chip in extra efforts to give a memorable conclusion.

At the end of the day, there are no strict rules that you must follow for 2-minute speeches, and hence you are open to writing it and delivering it the way that suits best for you.
