WHAT IS IT AND WHAT DOES IT DO

Main Functionality

PresentationTube is a program that allows you to create presentations for the purposes of teaching something. These presentations can have literally whatever you want; you can draw things or type text. You can also record a voice narration and include footage of your webcam, if you want. You can even insert PowerPoint slides. Think of it like creating a presentation that you would show to an online class, but you can use PresentationTube for any purposes — it doesn’t necessarily need to be for online classes.

When you are happy with your presentations, PresentationTube allows you to either output the presentations in video format (WMV or AVI) or upload the presentation to PresentationTube’s website from where you can share the presentations with anyone by simply providing a link.

Do take note ‘PresentationTube’ is actually a program and a service. ‘PresentationTube Recorder’ is the program, and the service is the PresentationTube Network. As the names suggests, you download and record presentations with the Recorder, and your uploads are stored on the Network. Pretty simple.

Also take note PresentationTube has a free (Lite) version and a paid (Pro) version. We specifically reviewed the Pro version for the purposes of this review but we will mention the differences between the two.

• Provides a range of tools to assist in creating presentations: a ‘whiteboard’ for text; a ‘drawing board’ for drawing graphs, shapes, etc.; a ‘web’ feature for displaying websites during the presentation; the ability to insert verbal narration and/or webcam video; the ability to show your screen in presentations; and the ability to insert and show PowerPoint slides
• Has a ‘Slides Note’ feature that allows you to input notes and follow those notes as you record your presentations; the notes are not shown in presentations — they are for your eyes only
• Webcam or screen feed can be shown in presentations as full screen or in a corner
• You can output recorded presentations as WMV or AVI, or upload them directly online to PresentationTube’s website to share with others
• Comes with free (Lite) and paid (Pro) versions
• Cannot insert images or videos into presentations (aside from using the ‘web’ feature to show images or videos from websites)
• You *must* use a PowerPoint… otherwise you cannot create a presentation
• Has no offline ‘Help’ at all, and online help is limited
• Requires you to register to download the Lite version
• The restrictions in the Lite version are a bit of a deal-killer, such as only being able to create a presentations up to 15 mins

PresentationTube is a small program that you can use to record presentations and then upload them for others to view. These aren’t PowerPoint-like presentations. Rather, these are the types of presentations you use for remote learning; the type that you would use for an online course or to teach a topic.

There are two versions that you can try. The Lite version of the program is completely free to use. However, there are limitations. For example, your presentations can be no longer than 15 minutes in length. I had presentations in school that had to be longer than that so I can imagine that limitation being a deal-killer for people that would otherwise be interested in the Lite version. Also, a number of your advanced video recording options have been removed although the developer is not specific about what exactly are advanced video recording features that have been removed. The company also states that the Lite of the program can only be used for personal or educational use. If you run a business, you need to buy the Pro version.

The paid version of this program has full features without limitations. Due note that there are three types of licenses for the Pro version. The cheapest one is $50, and that is a single use license. $450 gets you a ‘teamwork’ license while $950 gets you a ‘site-wide’ license. So what do you get in the Pro version? Well, you get unlimited storage on the PresentationTube Network, and all limitations of Lite are lifted (duh). Other things include a 1-year free upgrade, 24/7 tech support, and a lifetime software license.

Overall, PresentationTube is fairly straightforward and easy to use. However, that does not excuse the fact that there is no offline ‘Help’ and there is very limited online help resources. You basically need to learn to use the program on your own. The biggest issue I have here is it isn’t very obvious how to insert PowerPoint slides into presentations. In fact, I still haven’t been able to figure it out and without a help section I probably never will.

Another thing that bugs me about this program is the fact that you have to sign up for an account (which is free) before you even download the program. Maybe I want to give the program a test run before I completely sign up for the service. Well, you can’t. Signing up is required just to download the program. No, it doesn’t take long, but it is the principle of the matter.

CONCLUSION AND DOWNLOAD LINK

The program doesn’t really have a lot to offer me, but I don’t make presentations. For any of you who do, PresentationTube is not the most advanced presentation making program out there but it will get the job done… assuming you can figure out how to insert PowerPoints! Overall, my feeling on PresentationTube is ‘average’.

Before you purchase I highly suggest giving Lite a go; do note, however, you will have to sign up for an account before you can do any of that.

The free version provides basic recording options and you can easily use it for creating video presentations which are 15 minutes in length. The PresentationTube Recorder  comes with various options to help you annotate your slides, including a pen tool for drawing and a Text option to instantly add text to your slides. You can also use the built-in web browser to open websites within the recorder via the Web option.

Upload Recorded Presentations

After recording your presentations you can upload them so that they can be shared online. It is worth mentioning here that only files from AVI and WMV formats are acceptable. You can also upload pre-recorded presentations from these supported formats,which may have been created using other of tools.

Share Uploaded Presentations

You can share uploaded presentations via embed code, sharing URL or the given social media buttons. PresentationTube allows both public and private presentations. You can also search through various publicly shared presentations to get ideas for your own video presentations, share public presentations with others, like or dislike public presentations and leave comments.

The Verdict

PresentationTube is no doubt a very useful service, however the desktop application is quite buggy and can be hard to use because of some functionality hiccups. This is why you might be better off using this service for uploading and sharing presentations rather than using the desktop application for video presentation recording.

As for the soft, it does what they say, so far professional and if they keep improving it we may well see this as one of the best in its category. Just look at the improvements they've made since version 1! Thanks PresentationTube and Gaotd.

Being a Software Engineer myself, for many years, NOW RETIRED, the most valuable people are those who test the software in the lab or out here and then provide valuable feedback. @ #1 / John: Why are you listing and linking video converters,when this app has nothing to do with them? LOL

Easy install, no problems on Win 8.1. A simple, basic presentation recorder, but hey, the fancy ones run around $300US, so I'm not complaining. Several points to note: --animations in PPT do not carry over; they are static slides. If you want animations, you'll need to include each as a new slide (ie: when objects "appear," you need slide A as the "before" and slide B as the "after"). --REMOVE your hidden slides before importing the PPT. Otherwise, they display in PresentationTube output. If you need to save the hidden slides for other presentations, be sure to save a copy just for PresentationTube. --There is no obvious way to mirror the camera view, so what comes out on the screen as you are recording is backwards from what your brain expects. Know this ahead of time so you don't look puzzled while you record. --My first attempts resulted in a funky little cartoon background rather than my PPT slides as the page, but this problem self-corrected when I closed and reopened PresentationTube. --The audio sync was much better than in the earlier version of PresentationTube I downloaded last year. #11, #14, please remember that there are some very nice people on this forum. Profanity is unnecessary.

@ 3. Giovanni, thanks, and here is my feedback you are waiting for. You asked why not to use a FREE web-based app for creating compelling animated zooming presentations? You mentioned Prezi and other cool presentation tools. My answer is very simple: PresentationTube is not a presentation tool, it is a tool to RECORD your presentations with your audio and visual narration and annotations. Plus, it allows you to integrate important visual aids like your webcam, whiteboard, drawing tools, web browser, desktop capture tool.

Soo than I could make prestentaions and post them to youtube. huh?

Installed on two computers with Win 8.1 64 bit. When runs, the program opens installers for other programs - apparently a DLL conflict. There are several problems with this program: 1. Need to reconfigure camera every time AFTER the recording starts 2. Does not handle wide-format (16:9) presentations well - truncates the slides 3. Resultant video is cropped, so that text in the whiteboard is cut along the left border. 4. What is VPT and why would I care to create that file that doubles the volume of the output? I don't want to upload anything on their website, so how do I handle this file? They call WMV file a "preview" and, yes, the WMV quality is poor and way too soft. GOOD IDEA, but too many problems to be really usable.

I downloaded Presentation Tube and activated it without a hitch. The interface is simple and intuitive. One has to upload powerpoint slides first before one can make a recording - and it tells you exactly to do that first. After that, you can turn on your camera and integrate that into your recording as well as the components: the whiteboard, drawing, browser, your desktop. It saves your recording in two formats which is nice. It's really simple that any one can use it without any training at all. However, to make the slides fit well to your screen, one has to make small changes to default configuration. This is a great product. Thank you for giving this for free today!

Installed on Windows 8.1 and in every feature of the program I come to a runtime error. Camera/Video works until I hit the record button and the runtime error comes up. Drawing works until I record. Web browser works until I try to record. This seems like a pretty handy presentation creator UNTIL I TRY TO RECORD anything. It is useless if it will not record anything I create.

PresentationTube is originally a research-based academic project, and to continue running and developing the project, we decided to have a business model based on selling a Pro version of the product, which promoted today by GOTD. As you can see the site and the software are add-free. Version 3.0 is targeting presenters who have a very limited time and skills and producing video content, not professional producers. It integrates new visual aids and screen/desktop recording with 16:9 video outputs. Hope to enjoy the pro version. For premium support, please include GOTD in the subject of your message.

A simple installation that opened up to a simple interface. Made a PowerPoint presentation using the free program OpenOffice and saved in Microsoft format; it accepted it without problems. Had a play around and to be honest did not find it by any means intuitive, a shame really as a mobile application I'm helping on could be explained in something similar to this method. I would have thought that someone who was making a presentation program would use that program to explain how to use it, sadly not in this case. When trying to choose a camera it did not recognise the web cam attached to my desktop until I pressed the record button, only then did find it. I'm not going to give up on this just yet, but I do need to find a way of controlling the flow, say from text to whiteboard etc then it may be some use to me, but it would have been so much better if a decent tutorial was available.

Karl- It probably wanted to install Expression Web due to a DLL conflict - I used to get this with VB6 quite regularly. Program A installs with version A of a DLL, then you install program B with version B of the same DLL, and the poor system fights with itself trying to put back and reinstall DLLs it needs.

Pretty good tool today especially suitable for teachers and webmarketer eager to create online presentations, so probably not the right place for promoting it (LOL...in fact 35% THUMBS UP only). With this tool you can draw things or type text, record a voice narration, include footage of your webcam or even insert your own PowerPoint slides. But 50 BUCKS is too expensive....honestly can’t see any outstanding feature justifying this price (but wait a feedback about it by the developer), especially when compared to FREEWARE alternatives out there (see links below). Hi, I´m not able to install this program. I have downloaded, unziped all, run the exe file, but during Activating windows appears the error window "Failed to launch the program". I´m runnung under Win8 64 bit, which seems to be supported by the program. Thanks for your help Libor

For some unknown reasons, by starting this program it wants to install (on my computer) Microsoft Expression Web 4. There must be an error in registry keys...
