Ang kabataan ay ang pag-asa ng ating bayan. Sila ang susunod na henerasyon na magdadala ng mga pagbabago at pag-unlad sa lipunan. Sa pamamagitan ng sanaysay na ito, ating tatalakayin ang mga katangian, papel, at mga hamon na kinakaharap ng kabataan sa kasalukuyang panahon.

Isa sa mga mahalagang katangian ng kabataan ngayon ay ang kanilang kakayahan sa teknolohiya. Sila ay mga digital natives na sanay sa paggamit ng mga gadget, social media, at iba’t ibang online platforms. Sa pamamagitan ng sanaysay na ito, ating tatalakayin ang mga sanhi, epekto, at mga hakbang na maaaring gawin upang labanan ang depresyon sa kabataan.

On the evening of Sept. 20, an estimated 100 Filipino American activists and community members from BAYAN USA Seattle, Malaya Movement, International Coalition of Human Rights in the Philippines Seattle, Kabataan Alliance Washington, and the International League of People’s Struggle Seattle-Tacoma gathered for the 50th anniversary of martial law being declared in the Philippines by Ferdinand Marcos.

Several local Filipino American activists traveled to New York City to protest President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s first visit to the U.S. under his term at the United Nations General Assembly. As reported by ABS-CBN, three Filipino American activists were arrested outside Asia Society’s headquarters, where Marcos Jr. had been invited to deliver an address.

The commemoration included a flash choir mob at the Seafood City entrance inside Westfield Southcenter mall, with participants singing “Bayan Ko,” “Babae,” and “Tatsulok” with the accompaniment of a guitar. The performance was followed by clapping and cheering from onlookers, before the crowd made its way to the parking lot.

Candles were lit and used to create stage lines for various speakers, including a couple of martial law survivors from the Marcos era in the Philippines. The event wrapped up with chants and another performance from choir and community members.

The youth are expected to participate in nation-building and youth development programs not just in sports but also in various sectors of society enumerated in the United Nations Agenda 2030 and the Philippine Youth Development Plan. The Philippines have the Sangguniang Kabataan as a venue for the youth to participate in governance and is guided by the Sangguniang Kabataan reform act of 2015. Ang mga sanaysay tungkol sa mental health na mababasa mo sa post na ito ay masusing isinulat upang maghatid ng kaalaman, inspirasyon, at suporta sa mga mambabasa na nagnanais na mas maintindihan ang kahalagahan ng mental health sa ating buhay.

Mababasa mo dito ang mga sanaysay na tumatalakay sa iba’t ibang aspekto ng mental health – mula sa kahalagahan nito sa ating pang-araw-araw na pamumuhay, ang epekto ng pandemya sa ating kaisipan, hanggang sa mga hakbang na maaari nating gawin upang maging mas malusog at matatag ang ating mentalidad.

Nawa’y makatulong sa iyo ang mga nilalaman ng sanaysay na mababasa mo dito patungo sa pagkakaroon ng mas malalim na pag-unawa at pagpapahalaga sa mental health. Sama-sama nating pagyamanin ang ating kaalaman at kamalayan, at magbigay ng suporta sa mga taong nangangailangan upang maitaguyod ang isang mas maunlad at malusog na lipunan para sa lahat.

Mga Halimbawa ng Sanaysay Tungkol sa Mental Health

Sanaysay tungkol sa mental health, ang kahalagahan ng mental health sa ating buhay, epekto ng pandemya sa mental health, bakit mahalaga ang mental health, mental health ng kabataan sa bagong normal, epekto ng pandemya sa mental health ng mga kabataan, ang mental health sa makabagong panahon: pag-unawa, kamalayan, at suporta.

Sa makabagong mundo na ating ginagalawan, ang isyu ng mental health ay isa sa mga pangunahing aspeto ng kalusugan na dapat nating bigyang-pansin. Sa kabila ng mga teknolohiya at pag-unlad na ating natatamasa, ang mental health ay isa sa mga bagay na madalas na nakakaligtaan. Ang sanaysay na ito ay tatalakay sa kahalagahan ng mental health, ang mga kadahilanan na nakakaapekto dito, at ang mga hakbang na maaari nating gawin upang maging mas malusog ang ating kaisipan.

Una sa lahat, ano nga ba ang mental health? Ang mental health o kalusugang pangkaisipan ay tumutukoy sa kagalingan ng isang indibidwal sa aspeto ng emosyonal, sikolohikal, at sosyal na aspekto ng kanyang buhay. Ito ay tumutukoy sa kung paano natin pinangangasiwaan ang ating mga emosyon, pag-iisip, at pakikitungo sa ibang tao. Ang isang malusog na mental health ay mahalaga upang magkaroon tayo ng balanse at magandang kalidad ng buhay.

Ang mental health ay hindi lamang para sa mga mayroong problema sa kaisipan. Ang bawat isa sa atin ay may mental health na kailangang pangalagaan at paunlarin. Sa katunayan, ang mental health ay maaaring magdulot ng malalim na impluwensya sa ating pisikal na kalusugan. Mayroong iba’t-ibang kadahilanan na nakakaapekto sa mental health, gaya ng genetics, kapaligiran, karanasan sa buhay, at iba pang mga mapanganib na kadahilanan.

Upang mapanatili ang ating mental health, mahalaga na tayo ay magkaroon ng tamang balanse sa ating buhay. Narito ang ilang mga paraan upang pangalagaan ang mental health:

  • Kumilos at maging aktibo. Ang regular na ehersisyo ay isa sa mga pinakamabisang paraan upang mapanatili ang ating mental health. Ito ay nakakatulong na maibsan ang stress, pagod, at maging ang mga sintomas ng depresyon at anxiety.
  • Maging mulat sa iyong emosyon. Ang pagiging bukas sa ating mga emosyon ay tumutulong na maunawaan natin ang ating mga damdamin at kung paano natin ito haharapin. Sa pamamagitan nito, mas mapapabuti natin ang ating emosyonal na kalusugan.
  • Magkaroon ng sapat na tulog. Ang sapat na tulog ay isa sa mga pinakamahalagang sangkap ng mental health. Ito ay tumutulong na mabawasan ang stress at pagod, at magbigay ng enerhiya para sa susunod na araw.
  • Kumain ng masustansyang pagkain. Ang tamang nutrisyon ay isa pang mahalagang sangkap ng mental health. Ang mental health ay lubhang mahalaga dahil ito ang nagbibigay-daan sa atin upang mas maayos na harapin ang mga pagsubok sa buhay, maging mas produktibo, at makamit ang ating mga layunin.

Upang mapangalagaan ang ating mental health, mahalaga na sundin natin ang mga sumusunod na paraan:

  • Maging balanse ang ating pamumuhay: Tiyaking may sapat na oras para sa pag-aaral, trabaho, pahinga, at mga libangan. Iwasan ang sobrang pagtatrabaho o paglalaro ng video games dahil maaaring maging sanhi ito ng stress o kawalan ng motibasyon.
  • Kumain ng masustansya at maging aktibo: Ang pagkain ng masusustansya at pag-eehersisyo ay maaaring magbigay ng positibong epekto sa ating mental health. Maaari rin itong makatulong upang mabawasan ang stress at mapabuti ang ating antas ng enerhiya.
  • Matutunan ang stress management: Maghanap ng mga paraan upang mabawasan ang stress, tulad ng paggawa ng relaxation techniques, paghinga ng malalim, o pagpapraktis ng mindfulness meditation.

Sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay ng tamang suporta, kaalaman, at mga serbisyo, maaari nating ipakita ang ating pagmamahal at malasakit sa ating kapwa Pilipino na nakakaranas ng mga mental health struggles. But in my experience, a photo essay and a photo story are two different things. As you delve into the field of visual storytelling, distinguishing between the two helps you to take a purposeful approach to what you’re making .

The differences ultimately lie in the distinctions between theme, topic and story.

Themes are big-picture concepts. Example: Wildness

Topics are more specific than themes, but still overarching. Example : Wild bears of Yellowstone National Park

Stories are specific instances or experiences that happen within, or provide an example for, a topic or theme. Example: A certain wild bear became habituated to tourists and was relocated to maintain its wildness

Unlike a theme or topic, a story has particular elements that make it a story. They include leading characters, a setting, a narrative arc, conflict, and (usually) resolution.

With that in mind, we can distingush between a photo essay and a photo story.

Themes and Topics vs Stories

A photo essay revolves around a topic, theme, idea, or concept. It visually explores a big-picture something .

This allows a good deal of artistic leeway where a photographer can express their vision, philosophies, opinions, or artistic expression as they create their images.

A photo story  is a portfolio of images that illustrate – you guessed it – a story.

Because of this, there are distinct types of images that a photo story uses that add to the understanding, insight, clarity and meaning to the story for viewers. While they can certainly be artistically crafted and visually stunning, photo stories document something happening, and rely on visual variety for capturing the full experience.

A photo essay doesn’t need to have the same level of structured variety that a photo story requires. It can have images that overlap or are similar, as they each explore various aspects of a theme.

Photo essays can be about any topic. If you live in a city, consider using your nature photography to make an essay about the wildlife that lives in your neighborhood . 

The role of text with photos

A photo story typically runs alongside text that narrates the story. We're a visual species, and the images help us feel like we are there, experiencing what's happening. So, the images add significant power to the text, but they're often a partner to it.

This isn’t always the case, of course. Sometimes photo stories don’t need or use text. It’s like reading a graphic novel that doesn’t use text. Moving through the different images that build on each other ultimately unveils the narrative.

Photo essays don’t need to rely on text to illuminate the images' theme or topic. The photographer may use captions (or even a text essay), or they may let the images speak for themselves.

Definitions are helpful guidelines (not strict rules)

Some people categorize photo essays as either narrative or thematic. That's essentially just calling photo stories “narrative photo essays” and photo essays “thematic photo essays.”

But, a story is a defined thing, and any writer/editor will tell you themes and topics are not the same as stories. And we use the word “story” in our daily lives as it’s defined. So, it makes far more sense to name the difference between a photo essay and a photo story, and bask in the same clarity writers enjoy .

Photo stories illustrate a particular experience, event, narrative, something that happened or is happening.

Photo essays explore an idea, concept, topic, theme, creative approach, big-picture something .

Both photo essays and photo stories are immensely powerful visual tools. And yes, the differences between them can certainly be blurred, as is always the case with art.

Simply use this distinction as a general guideline, providing extra clarity around what you’re making and why you're making it.

Photo essays are a chance to try new styles or techniques that stretch your skills and creativity. This image was part of an essay exploring simplicity and shape, and helped me learn new skills in black and white post-processing.

How photo essays improve your photography

Creating photo essays is an amazing antidote if you’ve ever felt a lack of direction or purpose in your photography. Photo essays help build your photographic skills in at least 3 important ways.

1. You become more strategic in creating a body of work

It's easy to get stuck in a rut of photographing whatever pops up in front of you. And when you do, you end up with a collection of stand-alone shots.

These singles may work fine as a print, a quick Instagram post, or an addition to your gallery of shots on your website. But amassing a bunch of one-off shots limits your opportunities as a photographer for everything from exhibits to getting your work published.

Building photo essays pushes you to think strategically about what you photograph, why, and how. You're working toward a particular deliverable – a cohesive visual essay – with the images you create.

This elevates your skills in crafting your photo essay, and in how you curate the rest of your work, from galleries on your website to selecting images to sell as prints .

2. You become more purposeful in your composition skills

Composition is so much more than just following the rule of thirds, golden spirals, or thinking about the angle of light in a shot.

Composition is also about thinking ahead in what you’re trying to accomplish with a photograph – from what you’re saying through it to its emotional impact on a viewer – and where it fits within a larger body of work.

Photo essays push you to think critically about each shot – from coming up with fresh compositions for familiar subjects, to devising surprising compositions to fit within a collection, to creating compositions that expand on what’s already in a photo essay.

You’re pushed beyond creating a single pleasing frame, which leads you to shoot more thoughtfully and proactively than ever.

3. You develop strong editing and curation skills

Selecting which images stay, and which get left behind is one of the hardest jobs on a photographer’s to-do list. Mostly, it’s because of emotional attachment.

You might think it’s an amazing shot because you know the effort that went into capturing it. Or perhaps when you look at it, you get a twinge of the joy or exhilaration you felt the moment you captured it. There’s also the second-guessing that goes into which of two similar images is the best – which will people like more? So you’re tempted to just show both.

Ultimately, great photographers appear all the more skilled because they only show their best work. That in and of itself is a skill they’ve developed through years of ruthlessly editing their own work.

Because the most powerful photo essays only show a handful of extraordinary images, you’re bound to develop the very same critical skill (and look all the more talented because of it).

Photo essays are also a great stepping stone to creating photo stories. If you’re interested in moving beyond stand-alone shots and building stories, shooting photo essays will get your creative brain limbered up and ready for the adventure of photo stories.

A photo essay exploring the natural history of a favorite species is an exciting opportunity for an in-depth study. For me, that was a photo essay on emotive images of the American dipper (Cinclus mexicanus) as it hunts in streams. 

9 Simple steps to create your photo essays

1. clarify your theme.

Choose a theme, topic, or concept you want to explore. Spend some time getting crystal clear on what you want to focus on. It helps to write out a few sentences, or even a few paragraphs noting:

  • What you want the essay to be about
  • What kinds of images you want to create as part of it
  • How you’ll photograph the images
  • The style, techniques, or gear you might use to create your images
  • What “success” looks like when you’re done with your photo essay

You don’t have to stick to what you write down, of course. It can change during the image creation process. But fleshing your idea out on paper goes a long way in clarifying your photo essay theme and how you’ll go about creating it.

2. Create your images

Grab your camera and head outside!

As you’re photographing your essay, allow yourself some freedom to experiment. Try unusual compositions or techniques that are new to you.

Stretch your style a little, or “try on” the style of other photographers you admire who have photographed similar subjects.

Photo essays are wonderful opportunities to push yourself outside of your comfort zone and grow as a photographer.

Remember that a photo essay is a visually cohesive collection of images that make sense together. So, while you might stretch yourself into new terrain as you shoot, try to keep that approach, style, or strategy consistent.

Don’t be afraid to create lots of images. It’s great to have lots to choose from in the editing process, which comes up next.

3. Pull together your wide edit

Once you’ve created your images, pull together all the images that might make the cut. This could be as many as 40-60 images. Include anything you want to consider for the final essay in the wide edit.

From here, start weeding out images that:

  • are weaker in composition or subject matter
  • stand out like a sore thumb from the rest of the collection
  • Are similar to other stronger images in the collection

It's helpful to review the images at thumbnail size. You make more instinctive decisions and can more easily see the body of work as a whole. If an image is strong even at thumbnail size to stand out from similar frames while also partnering well with other images in the collection, that's a good sign it's strong enough for the essay.

4. Post-process your images for a cohesive look

Now it’s time to post-process the images. Use whatever editing software you’re comfortable with to polish your images.

Again, a photo essay has a cohesive visual look. If you use presets, filters, or other tools, use them across all the images.

5. Finalize your selection

It’s time to make the tough decisions. Select only the strongest for your photo essay from your group of images.

Each image should be strong enough to stand on its own and make sense as part of the whole group.

Many photo essays range from 8-12 images. But of course, it varies based on the essay. The number of images you have in your final photo essay is up to you.

Remember, less is more. A photo essay is most powerful when each image deserves to be included.

6. Put your images in a purposeful order

Create a visual flow with your images. Decide which image is first, and build from there. Use compositions, colors, and subject matter to decide which image goes next, then next, then next in the order.

Think of it like music: notes are arranged in a way that builds energy, or slows it down, surprise listeners with a new refrain, or drop into a familiar chorus. How the notes are ordered creates emotional arcs for listeners.

How you order your images is similar.

Think of the experience a viewer will have as they look at one image, then the next, and the next. Order your images so they create the experience you want your audience to have.

7. Get feedback

The best photographers make space for feedback, even when it’s tough to hear. Your work benefits from not just hearing feedback, but listening to it and applying what you learn from it.

Show your photo essay to people who have different sensibilities or tastes. Friends, family members, fellow photographers – anyone you trust to give you honest feedback.

Watch their reactions and hear what they say about what they’re seeing. Use their feedback to guide you in the next step.

8. Refine, revise, and finalize

Let your photo essay marinate for a little while. Take a day or two away from it. Then use your freshened eyes and the feedback you received from the previous step to refine your essay.

Swap out any selects you might want to change and reorder the images if needed.

9. Add captions

Even if you don’t plan on displaying captions with your images, captioning your images is a great practice to get into. It gives context, story, and important information to each image. And, more than likely, you will want to use these captions at some point when you share your photo essay, which we dive into later in this article.

Add captions to the image files using Lightroom, Bridge, or other software programs.

Create a document, such as a Google or Word doc, with captions for each image.

In your captions, share a bit about the story behind the image, or the creation process. Add whatever makes sense to share that provides a greater understanding of the image and its purpose.

Photo essays allow you to explore deliberate style choices, such as a focus on shapes, patterns, textures, and lines. Since each photo is part of a larger essay, it encourages you to be bold with choices you might not otherwise make. 

5 Examples of amazing nature photo essays

1. “how the water shapes us” from the nature conservancy.

This gorgeous essay, crafted with the work of multiple photographers, explores the people and places within the Mississippi River basin. Through the images, we gain a sense of how the water influences life from the headwater all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. Notice how each photographer is tasked with the same theme, yet approaches it with their own distinct style and vision. It is a wonderful example of the sheer level of visual variety you can have while maintaining a consistent style or theme.

2. “A Cyclist on the English Landscape” from New York Times’ The World Through A Lens series

This photo essay is a series of self-portraits by travel photographer Roff Smith while “stuck” at home during the pandemic. As he peddled the roads making portraits, the project evolved into a “celebration of traveling at home”. It’s a great example of how visually consistent you can be inside a theme while making each image completely unique.

3. “Vermont, Dressed In Snow” from New York Times’ The World Through A Lens series

This essay by aerial photographer Caleb Kenna uses a very common photo essay theme: snow. Because all images are aerial photographs, there’s a consistency to them. Yet, the compositions are utterly unique from one another. It’s a great example of keeping viewers surprised as they move from one image to the next while still maintaining a clear focus on the theme.

4. “Starling-Studded Skies” from bioGraphic Magazine

This beautiful essay is by Kathryn Cooper, a physicist trained in bioinformatics, and a talented photographer. She used a 19th century photographic technique, chronophotography, to create images that give us a look at the art and science of starling murmurations. She states: “I’m interested in the transient moments when chaos briefly changes to order, and thousands of individual bodies appear to move as one.” This essay is a great example of deep exploration of a concept using a specific photographic technique.

5. “These Scrappy Photos Capture the Action-Packed World Beneath a Bird Feeder” from Audubon Magazine

This photo essay from conservation photographer Carla Rhodes explores the wildlife that takes advantage of the bounty of food waiting under bird feeders . Using remote camera photography , Rhodes gives viewers a unique ground-level perspective and captures moments that make us feel like we’re in conversation with friends in the Hundred Acre Woods. This essay is a great example of how perspective, personality, and chance can all come into play as you explore both an idea and a technique.

The possibilities for photo essays are truly endless – from the concepts you explore to the techniques you use and styles you apply.

Choose an idea, hone your unique perspective on it, then start applying the 9 simple steps from above. 

  • The life of a plant or animal (your favorite species, a species living in your yard, etc)
  • The many shapes of a single species (a tree species, a bird species, etc)

As you zero in on a photo essay theme, consider two things: what most excites you about an idea, and what about it pushes you out of your comfort zone. The heady mix of joy and challenge will ensure you stick with it. 

Your photo essay is ready for the world! Decide how you’d like to make an impact with your work. You might use one or several of the options below.

1. Share it on your website

Create a gallery or a scrollytelling page on your website. This is a great way to drive traffic to your website where people can peruse your photo essay and the rest of the photography you have.

Putting it on your website and optimizing your images for SEO helps you build organic traffic and potentially be discovered by a broader audience, including photo editors.

2. Create a scrollytelling web page

If you enjoy the experience of immersive visual experiences, consider making one using your essay. And no, you don’t have to be a whiz at code to make it happen.

Shorthand helps you build web pages with scrollytelling techniques that make a big impression on viewers. Their free plan allows you to publish 3 essays or stories.

3. Create a Medium post

If you don’t have a website and want to keep things simple, a post on Medium is a great option.

Though it’s known for being a platform for bloggers, it’s also possible to add images to a post for a simple scroll.

And, because readers can discover and share posts, it’s a good place for your photos to get the attention of people who might not otherwise come across it.

4. Share it on Instagram

Instagram has changed a lot over the last couple of years, but it’s still a place for photographers to share their work thoughtfully.

There are at least 3 great ways to share your photo essay on the platform.

– Create a single post for each image. Add a caption. Publish one post per day until the full essay is on your feed. Share each post via Instagram Stories to bring more attention and interaction to your photo essay.

– Create a carousel post. You can add up 10 photos to a carousel post, so you may need to create two of them for your full photo essay. Or you might create a series of carousel posts using 3-4 images in each.

– Create a Reel featuring your images as a video.  The algorithm heavily favors reels, so turning your photo essay into a video experience can get it out to a larger audience.

I ran a “create a reel” challenge in my membership community. One member created a reel with her still images around a serious conservation issue. It gathered a ton of attention and landed her opportunities to share her message through YouTube and podcast interviews and publishing opportunities. Watch it here.

5. Exhibit it locally

Reach out to local galleries, cafes, pubs, or even the public library to see if they’re interested in hanging your photo essay for display. Many local businesses and organizations happily support the work of local artists.

6. Pitch your photo essay to publications

One of the best ways to reach an audience with your work is to get it published. Find publications that are a great fit for the theme and style of your photo essay, then pitch your essay for consideration. You gain a fantastic opportunity to share your work widely and can earn a paycheck at the same time.

Remember that if you want to get your photo essay published, you may want to hold back from sharing it publicly before you pitch it to publications.

And why not, the continuity of what we have founded in our time and age fully rests on the youth. This is the reason why we make sure that we guide the youth to paths that would make them responsible individuals, ready to take on the challenges that are waiting for them.

The Philippines pioneered youth and children’s participation in local governance.The right of children and young people to participate in governance has been recognized as early as the 1970s by the Philippine government through PD603 or the Child and Youth Welfare Code. It recognized the youth as viable partners in nation building through the creation of the Kabataang Barangay. The Local Government Code of 1991 further provided them the avenues for participation in all levels of local government, particularly in local legislation and implementation of programs and projects.

This is through the organization of the Katipunan Kabataan and election of officers for the council, the Sangguniang Kabataan.However, the Sangguniang Kabataan, which was envisioned as a venue to develop the next generation of leaders, received criticisms for its alleged flaws and failure to respond to the needs of the sector it represents. Though it has been touted as a landmark institution that promotes the engagement of the youth in governance, this study reveals a system weighed down with deep-rooted problems. The study underscores the need for greater support from adults, especially from barangay leaders who serve as role models for the youth.

The future of good governance rests on the shoulders of the youth.It is imperative that young people themselves actively take part in their own development and the development of their communities. The Sangguniang Kabataan is a venue for young people to reach out and engage their fellow youth in carrying out positive change in society. In fact, the study stresses the importance of strengthening the Sangguniang Kabataan, or the village youth assembly, which is the mass base of young people in each barangay from which the Sangguniang Kabataan is elected.

The SK is a challenge to Filipino youth to step up and seize the opportunity to lead and be heard.The leaders of today should create an enabling environment for positive youth engagement and empowerment in order to help shape the leaders of tomorrow. This paper aims to specify the different roles of the Sangguniang Kabataan provided by the law and to see of the youth organization is living up with what it is expected to do. It will also provide the different reasons why the abolition of the SK is being pushed through and why some people are against abolition.

This paper aims to answer the following questions: * What are the functions of the Sangguniang Kabataan? How does Sangguinang Kabataan helped in the development of the youth? * What are the limitations and challenges the Sangguniang Kabataan is facing? * What are the areas to strengthen and to improve in this youth organization? * Is Sangguniang Kabataan inefficient and irrelevant? This paper serves as a guide. It contains recommendations to improve more the identified strengths and to address the identified weaknesses. This paper will be part of the formation of youth leaders worthy to continue the works our present leaders have started.Statement of the Problem.

The Sangguniang Kabataan serves as the voice of the youth in the local government. It is a prototypical example of youth participation in local governance. It gives the youth the privilege to be represented and be involved in societal affairs. It is mandated in the Constitution that the youth should be part of national affairs.

However, various arguments arise emphasizing that the Sangguniang Kabataan is ineffective and irrelevant. With this, the continuous existence of the Sangguniang Kabataan becomes highly questionable. How does Sangguniang Kabataan help in the development of the youth?Is Sangguniang Kabataan an effective tool in the development of the youth? What are the good practices and lessons to be learned in Sangguniang Kabataan? Significance of the Study The Sangguniang Kabataan was created for youth empowerment. The SK should be the representative of the youth in the local government.

They should provide the youth with programs that would enhance their overall personality. However, a thorough analysis of the Sangguniang Kabataan would lead people to a question: is the Sangguniang Kabataan serving its purpose? Legislators and local leaders say the SK is not.And, funny as it may seem, some of the youth themselves think that the SK is not functioning as it was designed to be. This study aims to present the functions and duties of the Sangguniang Kabataan at barangay level.

Intends to show what needs to be done in order to relive the spirit of youth representation. Theoretical Framework The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), ratified by the Philippine government, states that children are neither objects nor helpless creatures. They are individuals with absolute rights. Yet, they are also members of society with responsibilities appropriate to their levels of development.

UN CRC clearly recognizes children’s right to participate in the community. Even before the ratification of the UN CRC, however, there were already opportunities for children and youth to participate in governance. Filipino youth have shown they want and deserve a voice in their communities. Youth participation in governance: from the 1970s to the present 1970s 1.

PD 684 created the Kabataang Barangay composed of all youth 15-18 years old. 2. The Marcos administration expanded the age bracket to 15-21 years old and created the Pambansang Katipunan ng Kabataang Barangay under the Office of the President.Critics believe this countered militant youth activity and only exposed the youth to graft, corruption and opportunism.

1980s 1. The Kabataang Barangay became less popular with the youth. 2. Youth turned to student activism.

3. The League of Filipino Students (LFS) lobbied for the re-establishment of student councils and other rights lost during Martial Law. 4. Student activism waned after the EDSA revolution.

5. Konsultahang Kabataan was organized in February 1987; the NYC was proposed. 6. The Aquino administration created instead the Presidential Council for Youth Affairs (PCYA) with limited powers.

1990s 1. The National Youth Commission (NYC) was created as a national agency. 2. The 1991 Local Government Code abolished Kabataang Barangay and created the Katipunan ng Kabataan and the Sangguniang Kabataan that covers youth ages 15-24 years old.

3. Age bracket changed to 15-18 years old. present..

. 1. Age bracket again changed to 15-17 years old. 2.

The 2001 Regional Youth Summit tackled problems in SK. 3. House Bill 185 aims to replace the SK system with “Youth Sector Representatives”Researches show that involvement in governance at the local level can help develop young people’s leadership skills and confidence. Through participation in the democratic process, young people are empowered.

They gain experience and learn new skills, become responsible and accountable, develop confidence, and forge meaningful connections with other youth and adults. The SK, the governing body of the KK, was designed to make this happen. SK officers represent the youth in their respective local government councils and have the same functions and privileges as any member of the council.They have a term of three years and receive 10 percent of barangay funds for youth projects.

So far, only three, instead of four SK elections, have been held since 1992 due to several amendments to the regular three-year term of SK officials. Specifically, the functions of the SK are to: • promulgate resolutions necessary to carry out the objectives of the youth in the barangay; • initiate programs designed to enhance the social, political, economic, cultural, moral, spiritual and physical development of the members; • conduct fundraising activities; consult and coordinate with all youth organizations in the barangay for policy formulation and program implementation; and • coordinate with the appropriate agency for the implementation of youth development projects and programs at the national level Hypothesis It is hypothesized that the Sangguniang Kabataan be strengthen to promote development among the youth than to abolish it. Scope and Delimitation of the Study This study concentrates on the Sangguniang Kabataan at the barangay level.Although it would be interesting to view the operation of the SK at municipal, provincial and national level, the point of view at barangay level would suffice to weigh the development made by Sangguniang Kabataan.

Besides, the Sangguniang Kabataan at the barangay level is more accessible therefore it would be easier to relate to it. The study focuses entirely on Brgy. Bantad, Gumaca, Quezon for Fiscal year 2007 – 2013.

Hindi lamang ito sa aspeto ng edukasyon, kundi pati na rin sa kanyang kritikal na pag-iisip. Tungkulin ng mga kabataan ngayon ay gawing tama ang mga nakikitang pagkakamali sa lipunan, maging aktibo, at magkaroon ng sariling opinyon sa mga isyung lipunan.

Sa panahon ngayon, lalo na sa modernong panahon na ito, malaki na ang nagiging impluwensiya ng mga kabataan. Dapat gamitin ito sa positibong paraan na na nakapagbibigay ng inspirasyon sa iba.

Pero, bago paman ito, kailangan muna ng mga kabataang matutong magmahal sa kanyang sariling lipunan. Nagsisimula ito sa paggalang sa Bandila ng ating pansa, pagtulong sa kaunlaran nito, at pagiging mabuting huwaran sa kapwa.

What Millennials Should Know About the Kabataang Makabayan

Yet KM recently celebrated its 50th founding year. Some of its members staged lightning rallies in Manila, some chapters released an anniversary statement, and some former activists from the 1980s and 1990s gave testimonies about the influence of KM on their lives.

” …the KM perspective continues to represent a new type of politics. It is not because KM has stubbornly refused to embrace change, but because the general conditions of the present have remained unchanged since the 1960s… “

KM is many things to different people but at least it has a sense of history. It was founded on November 30 , Bonifacio Day, to herald the continuity of the 1896 Philippine Revolution. Some have derided the KM for copying the so-called destructive politics of China’s Red Guards. But China’s Cultural Revolution was launched in 1966 while KM was founded two years earlier. It is true that KM members have consistently propagated the teachings of Mao Zedong but they saw themselves from the very beginning as heirs of the Katipunan legacy. The KM is both Katipunero and Red Guard.

Some looked down on KM leaders who became the pioneer cadres of the Communist Party and New People’s Army. But the CPP-NPA was the core of the resistance movement during martial law in the 1970s. The KM was also one of the underground groups which established the National Democratic Front. In a different context, KM was the original proponent of the government’s ‘balik-probinsiya’ (back to the province) program. Even before martial law was declared, KM members were encouraged to serve the people, integrate with the masses in the countryside, and join the agrarian revolution. Many tirelessly worked to create grassroots formations across the archipelago. Most of these initiatives became leading NGOs and people’s organizations that promoted the welfare of the poor and marginalized. There is probably a KM member behind every anti-Marcos NGO that bloomed in the 1970s and 1980s.

Anti-communists can ignore the preceding paragraph but the KM will remain a remarkable political group. No serious student of Philippine politics and history can disregard KM and the “discontents” it caused in semi-feudal and semi-colonial Philippines. No youth group can claim to discover a more radical way of changing the world without first debunking the political legacy of KM.

The problem with KM is that it set a very high standard for young people who wanted to take part in politics. Before KM, young people were told to do charity or to campaign for good-hearted politicians. Nothing wrong with these prescriptions but KM argued that young people are capable of doing greater things for the country and more meaningful actions for the poor such as fighting landlordism, foreign meddling, and systemic corruption in government. Before KM, young people were able to articulate these issues in the government by joining elite-controlled parties or serving at the pleasure of dynasties. But after KM, the youth were able to speak out and assert their rights through various collective actions.

However, the reformist outlook and practice that dominated the politics of KB and SK still lingers. This is evident in the pronouncements of young trapos, government-backed youth parties, and conservative civic groups. How they clamor for youth representation in all working committees of the state (as if it is the central aim of politics), how they masterfully mimic the idiotic and deceptive language of their elder trapos, how they exaggerate symbolic gestures as great acts of politics, how they pitifully cling to the perks and trappings of the bureaucracy, how they uncritically support the reactionaries in waging war against the progressives, how they peddle illusory hope when the situation demands the overhaul of the beastly machine.

Masisisi ba natin kung sila'y nalulong at napabayaan ng kanilang pamilya? Ang magulang ang dapat na gumabay sa kanilang mga anak ngunit subalit paano nito matutustusan ang pangangailan ng kanilang mga anak kung hindi naman sapat ang kanilang kinikita sa pang araw-araw na pangangailangan upang buhayin ang kanilang pamilya.

Hindi lang druga ang problema ng kabataan sa panahon ngayon, mga child workers na laganap at nakakalat sa ating paligid na naghahanap ng pagkakitaan. Sa murang edad sadsad na sila sa pagod at hirap dala ng kanilang trabaho. Isa pang lumalang problema ngayon ay ang prostitusyon kung saan dito naghahanap ng pag asenso ang karamihang kabataan lalo na ang mga kababaihan. Sila'y naghahangad lamang ng pag asenso sa ganoong pamamaraan.

Ngunit sa lahat ng mga kabikabilang problema sa ating pamayanan ang edukasyon ang pangunahing problema sa ating lipunan. Ika nga ng ating mga magulang ang edukasyon lamang ang tanging kayamanan na maibibigay sa kanilang mga anak. Ngunit paaano ito magiging kayaman sa maraming naghihirap nating mga kababayan na hindi nakapag-aral man lang?

Hindi ba't ito ang sanhi kung bakit karamihan sa ating kabataan ang hindi nakapag-aral dahil sa nagmamahalang matrikula sa ating paaralan. Wala kang mapapsukan na magandang trabaho kung wala kang hinahawakang diploma. Kung may trabaho man hindi sapat ang sahod para sa pang araw-araw na pangangailangan. Ganito ba ang gusto mo kaibigan?

Kung hindi lang sana ganito ka dungis ang sistema ng ating gobyerno hindi sana nating kailangan maghirap pa tulad ng nararanasan natin sa panahon ngayon. Malas nga lang tayo dahil sila'y mapagsamantala at makasarili. Hindi nila inisip ang kapakanan ng taong bayan na lalong naghihirap dahil sa kanilang kagagawan.

Sila'y nagpakayaman gamit ang pera ng kaban bayan habang tayo'y halos walang laman ang tiyan. Tama ba ang ginagawa nila? Pabayaan nalang ba nating magpatuloy ang kanilang pagnanakaw habang tayo'y baon na baon sa utang? Kailan pa tayo kikilos at makikiisa para sa ating bayan? Mag bingibingihan nalang ba tayo at magbulagbulagan ngayong alam naman natin kung ano ang tunay na dahilan kung bakit laganap parin ang kahirapan sa ating bayan?

Ikaw ano ang maitutulong mo bilang Kabataang Pilipino? Ika nga ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan, ngunit paano magiging lider ang isang Kabataan kung sila mismo hindi kikilos sa kung ano man ang mga nangyayaring problema sa ating bayan. Bigyan sana natin ng pansin ang mga kaganapan na lalong nagpapahirap sa ating buhay. Bilang Kabataang Pilipino malaki ang ating maitutulong sa ating bayan para sugpuin ang mga buwayang nagpapataba at wala ng ginawa kundi ang magpalaki ng tiyan.

Tayong mga Kabataan ang daan para sa kaunlaran ng ating bayan. Tayo ang tatapos sa mga nasimulan ng ating mga bayaning nakikipaglaban para sa kapakanan ng buong bansa. H'wag sana nating ibalewala at kalimutan ang kanilang paghihirap para makamtam natin ang tagumpay at tunay na kapayapaan.

Seventy-five years ago this past week, Sam Snead won the Masters Tournament and became the first champion to receive one of Augusta National Golf Club’s green jackets.

Until he died in 2002 , the jacket was his to wear every time he returned to Augusta. These days, it is a sartorial symbol of how, beyond a freighted history and marvelous azaleas and golf’s geopolitical machinations and gallery roars that ripple from Amen Corner to the clubhouse, Augusta National is more enchanted by champions than most places.

Since the start of the month, Lottie Woad has captured the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. Eight children were named champions of a junior golf competition after playing at Augusta. More than 30 past Masters winners gathered for dinner to honor Jon Rahm , last year’s champion, and Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tom Watson hit tee shots to start this year’s tournament. Many of their brethren played afterward, because they are allowed to for life. On Sunday, Scottie Scheffler, who was already familiar with the locker room reserved for past champions, won the 88th Masters.

There may be no place in men’s golf where hope, dazzle and ambition are as abundant as Augusta.

But this past week, all of the possibilities seemed to be on greater display than usual. There was the solar eclipse on Monday, when fans peered skyward, just as Ben Crenshaw and Nick Faldo did here, too. Later on, Tiger Woods , 48 years old and two years removed from the last time he finished a major tournament, made his record 24th consecutive Masters cut. But he faded on Saturday.

Higher up the leaderboard during the third round, players like Ludvig Aberg, Nicolai Hojgaard, Max Homa and Xander Schauffele hunted for their debut major title, while Bryson DeChambeau, Collin Morikawa and Cameron Smith looked to build on the magic that had made them champions elsewhere not all that long ago. Scheffler occasionally stumbled, but on Sunday, he dominated and locked down his second Masters victory before the birth of his first child.

Golf enthusiasts often regard a trip to the Masters as the stuff of dreams. It certainly is for players. The Masters represents a shot at becoming one of those champions written into history, with the green jackets and the possibility of forever enchanting Augusta.
