Current UC detection methods, like tocodynamometers, have limitations. Electrohysterography (EHG) offers a non-invasive alternative but lacks comprehensive coverage and signal quality.

Project Details: This interdisciplinary project aims to develop a wearable system with nanostructured biocompatible electrodes for reliable multi-channel EHG signal recording. Objectives include developing stretchable electrodes, a multi-channel recording system, and evaluating signal accuracy and sensitivity.

Coventry University is inviting applications from suitably-qualified graduates for a fully-funded PhD studentship.

This transdisciplinary project aims to fill a gap in the research into the ethical development of innovative data-driven technologies for Smart Cities. These technologies, for example sensor networks, cameras, robotics and augmented reality, increasingly make use of AI for automated decision-making. This kind of decision-making raises many ethical questions for AI developer communities. One well known issue relates to facial recognition systems that are aimed at reducing crime rates, but have been shown to unfairly target some groups. After more than a decade of discussion, there is consensus on the guidelines that are necessary for ethical AI deployment, and these are widely published and disseminated. There are also many toolkits out there now that aim to implement these guidelines in practice. However, there is little research looking at how well these toolkits have led to increased awareness and positive change in the ethical know-how of developers working with AI. Therefore, this project will take a practice-based approach and combine methodologies from the humanities and social sciences with expertise in computing science and engineering. The aim is to identify tangible steps for improving ethics-in-practice in the context of Smart Cities and AI development.

About Coventry University

Coventry University is a public research university in the city of Coventry, England and is ranked 15th out of 119 Universities in the UK. It was established as a university through the Further and Higher Education Act 1992, and was formerly known as Lanchester Polytechnic until 1987 and Coventry Polytechnic until it was awarded university status.

This is a fully-funded studentship, including tuition fees and stipend/bursary.

The successful candidate will receive comprehensive research training including technical, personal and professional skills.

All researchers at Coventry University (from PhD to Professor) are part of the Doctoral College and Centre for Research Capability and Development, which provides support with high-quality training and career development activities. 

• A minimum of a 2:1 first degree in a relevant discipline/subject area with a minimum 60% mark in the project element or equivalent with a minimum 60% overall module average.  PLUS
• the potential to engage in innovative research and to complete the PhD within a 3.5 years
• a minimum of English language proficiency (IELTS overall minimum score of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in each component)

Postgraduate taught (pgt) academic excellence scholarship.

Application details

This is a cash scholarship worth up to £2,000 and is open to all students applying for a full-time or part-time postgraduate taught degree at Coventry University (Coventry), Coventry University (Vauxhall, London), Coventry University London (City of London), CU Scarborough or Coventry University Online. This is a one-off payment for the first year of study only. Please note that for part-time students, the scholarship will be paid on a pro rata basis.

You must be a self-funded student e.g. not sponsored.

Eligibility criteria

Students enrolled on to a full-time May 2024 postgraduate taught course at Coventry University, Coventry University London campus or Coventry University Online who have achieved a 1st class undergraduate honours from a UK institution will receive a scholarship.Please note that you must be transferring onto a postgraduate taught course charging postgraduate tuition fees in order to be eligible for the Postgraduate Academic Excellence scholarship. Courses such as Integrated Masters, that continue to charge undergraduate tuition fees and are eligible to receive undergraduate student finance will not qualify to receive the Postgraduate Academic Excellence scholarship.Please note that if you have already obtained a postgraduate taught qualification we cannot consider you for this scholarship as it is available to first time postgraduate students only.Scholarships are allocated on the basis of academic merit.

Funded PhD Scholarship Position : Coventry University (CU) invites applications for a fully-funded PhD studentship in the field of compressible shear flows. This scholarship offers a bursary and covers tuition fees for both UK and international (including EU) graduates. The program’s duration is between three and three and a half years on a fixed-term basis, with a start date in January 2024.

You may be wondering if being a student in Moscow is any different from other Russian cities or any study destinations for that matter. To satisfy your curiosity, we listed out a couple of key things you should know.

If you’re pursuing a STEM degree in Russia, you’re in for premium education. Big investments go into Russian Universities to support these programs with world-class facilities and research.

Moscow universities alone are proof of how well-invested the Russians are in their science education. For example, the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) has training simulation centers. Some medical students use these facilities for technical practice and communicating with patients.

RUDN also has a Mission Control Center for students of space technology. This center even gets the same live feed as Russia’s space agency!

As the capital city of Russia, Moscow is brimming with places that offer delicious Russian food . There are mid-range restaurants, cafes and food parks you can visit for your mini food trips.

Some of the best dishes you can try are Pelmeni, Borscht, and Blini. You can also try street food like Pirozhki or take a bite of Shashlik, which is the Russians’ take on Kebabs.

Most Russians don’t speak English, but in the university setting, your English skills will serve you well. Most faculty members can converse well in English.

• Weyerman named spring 2024 student marshal

Isabella Weyerman selected as student marshal for Auburn University's spring 2024 commencement

Isabella Weyerman, a graduating senior from Trussville, Alabama, has been named the spring 2024 graduation marshal for the College of Liberal Arts at Auburn University.

Weyerman will graduate with degrees in Political Science and Vocal Performance with a soprano choral focus. With such widespread interests, Weyerman has been involved in countless extracurriculars, including leadership in Student Government Association , Pi Lambda Sigma and AU Singers .

Weyerman spoke highly of all the organizations she has been a part of, and said, "Serving as the student president of Liberal Arts for two years provided me with invaluable insights into the importance of college-wide support and the significance of fostering connections within one's department."

Throughout her time as student president, Weyerman was involved in the appointment of a new dean to the College of Liberal Arts.

"I had the privilege of interviewing and enthusiastically recommending Dean Hicks when he was one of many candidates for dean," Weyerman said. "Since his appointment, I have continuously witnessed a positive impact of his leadership."                                       

After being promoted to AVP of the Executive Student Council, advising all 13 of Auburn's college councils, Weyerman drew upon her strong beliefs and background in career preparedness to create a new career readiness tool.

"Each College Council develops a website listing popular clubs, internships, experiences, timelines and other pertinent information for every major Auburn offers," she said.

Weyerman didn't stop there. When selected as one of five women on the 2023 homecoming court, she utilized her newfound influence to launch her website in campaign format to further solidify CLA's influence. This website is now being adapted for permanent university-wide usage.

As her final semester comes to an end, Weyerman is writing her senior music thesis, titled "Sacred Music in Public Schools," under the mentorship of Professor Rosephanye Powell .

"This thesis aligns perfectly with my career interests and allows me to delve deeply into a subject I am passionate about and experienced in," Weyerman said. "As a result, I am well-prepared and able to pursue various career paths upon graduation."    

After graduating, Weyerman will begin law school at Georgetown Law, where she hopes to pursue a specialization in intellectual property entertainment law.

"I eagerly anticipate a long, fulfilling legal career deeply rooted in the diverse set of interpersonal and concrete skills imparted to me by the College of Liberal Arts," said Weyerman. "The support, experiences and lessons I have gained in return have truly enriched my life beyond what I ever expected."

The university will host the College of Liberal Arts commencement ceremony at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday, May 5. The commencement address will be delivered from Auburn alums Kirsty Coventry '06 and Phillip McWane '80. Additional information, including updates regarding inclement weather, is available on the commencement website and information will be posted on the Facebook and Instagram accounts.

All ceremonies will be livestreamed, with recordings available on the commencement website following the weekend festivities, and graduates and their families are encouraged to check the website regularly for updated information.
