Admission 2022-23

The   admission portal   for PhD admissions in University of Delhi is closed. The last date of registration is 20-June-2022. The entrance test for admission to Ph.D.programs for academic year 2022-23 will he held by NTA in coming months. The dates will be announced on University website. The syllabus for Ph.D. entrance test 2022 will be same as the syllabus of MSc Microbiology program in University of Delhi, which can be downloaded   here .

The bulletin of information for admission to Ph.D. courses of University of Delhi may be   downloaded here . The tentative number of seats expected to be available for admission to PhD program in Department of Microbiology for academic year 2022-23 are five (3 UR, 1 OBC, 1 SC).

The PhD program at University of Delhi is governed by rules framed under Ordinance VI, which can be downloaded   here .

Submission of research proposal in the application form is not mandatory.

Eligibility :

The candidate should have a minimum 55% marks (or equivalent CGPA score) in Master’s Degree/ M.Phil./ M. Tech./ M.D./ M.S. in any branch of life Sciences/ Medical Sciences/ any branch of Biology from a recognized University/ Institute.

Those students who qualify UGC-NET (including JRF), UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF), ICAR-NET, GATE (in 'Life Science' or 'Biotechnology' subject with minimum percentile as described ahead), are eligible to appear directly for interview for Ph.D. admission. However, every applicant must apply and register at admission portal before last date of registration (20-June-2022).

GATE eligibility

Please note that candidate who have qualified GATE either in 'Life Science' or in 'Biotechnology' subject with minimum percentile score as listed below, will be eligible for directly appearing in interview of Ph.D. admission.

General category: Percentile of 90 and above

OBC: Percentile of 85 and above

SC, ST, PwD: Percentile of 80 and above

Entrance Test:

The date for the conduct of the Entrance Examination for admission to Ph.D. Microbiology will be announced by NTA. The entrance test will be of 2 hour duration and will consist of 50 multiple choice questions.  The syllabus for entrance test would be the syllabus for M.Sc. Microbiology course of University of Delhi which can be downloaded   here .

Important information for OBC applicants:

The OBC applicants who belong to the ‘Non-Creamy Layer’ and whose caste appears in the Central List of the OBCs only, shall be eligible to be considered for admission under the OBC category (Validity period of OBC certificate in respect of ‘creamy layer’ status of the applicants as per DOPT Office Memorandum No. 36036/2/2013-Estt.(Res-I) dated 31 March 2016).   The validity of the non-creamy layer certificate shall be for the financial year 2021-2022, issued after 31st March, 2022.   If the applicants do not have the OBC non-creamy layer certificate of the financial year 2021-22 at the time of upload, the applicant may upload old OBC non-creamy layer certificate/acknowledgement slip of OBC non-creamy layer certificate application. However, at the time of admission, the applicant will have to produce the OBC non-creamy layer certificate of the financial year 2021-22.

Description : Doctor of Philosophy in Commerce is offered at the Department of Commerce, Faculty of Commerce & Business.  The area of Specialization offered includes Accounting, Finance, International Business, Marketing, Organisational Behaviour and Development and other related areas.

  ADMISSION FOR Ph. D. IN COMMERCE

• ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR Ph. D.
• Candidate must have secured minimum 55% marks in M.Com./M.Phil./MBA/ MIB/MHROD/MFC from a recognized University with 5% relaxation for OBC/SC/ST and Persons with Disability.
• Foreign nationals must provide evidence of competence in English language and should have studied Mathematics/Statistics in their post graduate degree. Foreign students shall apply through FSR (Foreign Students’ Registry).
• Note: No Candidate shall be eligible to register for the Ph. D. programme if s/he is already registered for any full-time programme of study in any University/Institution and shall not be permitted to undertake any full-time course during the pendency of the programme.
• MODES OF ADMISSION

There are two modes of admission in the Ph. D. programme

(2.1) Written Entrance test

• (2.2) Direct Interview
• The Written entrance test would be compulsory for students who are otherwise eligible for admission to the Ph. D. Programme. The entrance test will be conducted once in a year and the eligibility of shortlisted candidates shall remain valid till the next entrance test is held or one year, whichever is earlier.
• The Entrance Test will be a qualifying examination with qualifying marks as 50% (45% for SC/ST/OBC(NC)/PWD). There shall be a combined entrance test for M.Phil. and Ph. D.  The syllabus for the entrance test will consist of 50% questions on research aptitude/methodology and 50% subject-specific questions from the following areas:
• International Business
• Organisational Behaviour and Development
• There would be 50 MCQs and the duration of the examination is 2 hours. Each question would carry four marks with a negative marking for the wrong answer.  The maximum marks would be 200.
• Department shall notify the shortlisted candidates to be called for a personal interview through its website.

The eligible candidates, exempted* from the entrance test, shall be called for an interview to be notified through the Department website.

• PROCEDURE OF ADMISSION TO Ph. D. PROGRAMME

3.1 Through Written Entrance Test

Candidates seeking admission in Ph. D. through entrance test are required to follow:

3.1.1 Fill the required form available as and when notified on the University portal.

3.1.2 Appear in Written/Online Entrance Test as notified.

3.1.3 Those candidates, who are in service, shall submit a No Objection Certificate from their employer.

3.1.4 If shortlisted and called for interview, submit a brief research proposal as notified (approximately of 2500 words) which may be subject to Plagiarism check). Bring four copies at the time of interview.  

3.1.5 Eligible/Shortlisted candidates shall appear for a personal interview before the duly constituted Committee.

3.1.6 Selected candidates shall be notified through the website for admission.

3.2 Through Direct Interview

The candidates seeking admission in Ph. D. (Without entrance test) are required to fill the requisite form available, as and when, notified on the University portal.

• SELECTION CRITERIA**

It is mandatory for all shortlisted candidates (through written entrance test or direct mode) to appear for a personal interview.  The calculation of marks for the selection of candidates should be done in accordance with the following weightage:

4.1 Through Entrance Test

•   Entrance test marks- 70%
•   Interview – 30%
•  4.2 Through Direct Interview

Clarifying Notes for Weightage mentioned above:

5.1 UG - There will be a differential of minus 5% for B.Com. and minus 7% for non- Commerce UG degree as against B.Com. (Hons). UG, PG percentage shall be the weightage of marks obtained by the candidates.

5.2 M.Phil. (With commerce or management related discipline) from recognized University through regular mode only. M.Phil. completion or Viva conducted on or before the last date of filling up the form - 10% amounts to 10 marks.

5.3 JRF qualified in commerce or management related discipline (active JRF) on or before the last date of filling up the application form - 20% amounts to 20 marks. Active JRF implies only applicants whose JRF could be probated as per UGC rules, if admission is granted. Applicants who have qualified JRF but cannot avail fellowship if admission is granted, shall not be entitled for 20 marks. This is to encourage JRF availing scholars.

5.4 Teaching experience –Full-time teaching experience (UG/PG) shall be counted till the last date of filling the form. One mark for every completed year of teaching, subject to a maximum of ten marks for ten or more years of experience. (All fractions to be ignored).

5.5 In case of a tie in the final marks, date of birth shall be considered, giving preference to the candidate who is senior in age.

5.6 The onus of providing conversion formula from Grade Points (CGPA) to Percentage lies with candidates.

The Doctoral degree in English is one of the strong programmes currently being run by the Department.  Ever since the programme was introduced in the year 1964, the Department has continued to insist on maintaining extreme rigor and high standards in its research scholars: from the time that scholars are admitted to the programme through the period of research to the time of completion of the project and the process of evaluation.  As a result, among those who have obtained their PhD degrees from the Department, several have gone on to make a significant mark in diverse fields at national and international level. 

Over the years, in response to global shifts, the thrust areas of doctoral research at the Department have both shifted and evolved.  Earlier the Department used to promote researches in canonical areas.  Since the archival resources for such researches were located in England and America, the prospective doctoral scholars were encouraged to go abroad to conduct their research. However, with growing archival material available online, this too has altered. In addition, the Department has also taken cognizance of newer areas such as researches across the media, post-colonial studies and Literature in English, Translation Studies and Cultural Studies with their interdisciplinary orientation, and research in these areas are being encouraged.  Consequently, we at the Department have opened our Doctoral programme to newer areas and methodologies and welcome a greater numbers of research scholars from India and abroad. 

We have also begun encouraging relatively younger scholars to get enrolled as doctoral students.  An indication of the last mentioned shift is the recent restructuring of both the M.Phil and PhD programmes. An M.Phil student can now directly enroll in our PhD programme before completing his/her M.Phil in the first semester provided he/she meets the eligibility criteria laid down (please see guidelines for M.Phil Ordinance, VI-A).

2023-24 PhD admissions: Delhi University to select candidates through CUET

Candidates will be shortlisted for interviews, after the cuet (phd) 2023 result declaration..

The Delhi University (DU) is planning to admit students into the PhD programmes through Common University Entrance Test (CUET), for the first time this year.

The university launched its admission portal Wednesday and as part of its admission process is offering 51 programmes among various departments and centres under PhD.

“Candidates will have to appear either in a national level test such as UGC- NET/CSIR-NET or can wish to appear through CUET (PhD) 2023. Interviews are mandatory to all and will be shortlisted for interviews, post the CUET (PhD) 2023 result declaration,” Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh on Wednesday.

The modalities for the test, however, are not clear yet.

When asked about the development, University Grants Commission Chairperson Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar said, “We have not yet finalised the plan for CUET- PhD on the lines that we are doing for CUET-UG and CUET-PG.”

The DU made admission into undergraduate through CUET-UG mandatory last year and will be admitting students into postgraduate programmes through CUET PG this year.

The decision on CUET PhD was taken during the executive council meeting, where a battery of resolutions was approved, including the five-year LLB programme, and was announced Wednesday by V-C Yogesh Singh as part of the portal launching.

Apart from these, the eligibility condition and seat matrix recommendations of the Medical Science Courses Admission Committee (MCAC) for admission to undergraduate (MBBS/BDS) courses for the 2023-24 academic session were also approved in the meeting. The MSc admission to the Respiratory Therapy programme will also be under CUET (PG)-2023, officials said.

Candidates can only pay the  DU M.Phil and Ph.D. Admission 2023 application fee through online mode ie credit/debit card / net banking facility etc.

• For Reservation categories: Rs. 300/- for each course.
• For UR and OBC: Rs. 750/- for each course

The eligibility criteria for DU M.Phil. and PhD Admission 2023 vary depending on the course. However, in general, the following eligibility criteria apply:

• The candidate must have passed a Master’s degree in the relevant discipline with at least 55% marks.
• The candidate must have appeared for the UGC NET or SLET or have a Ph.D. in the relevant discipline.

Candidates must read and understand DU M.Phil and PhD eligibility criteria before filling the form. The candidature is cancelled, if any candidate is found ineligible, for the said course. The qualification criteria for each course is separate and they are as follows.

Admissions 2023-24 LL.M. (Professional)

Admission notice, how to apply to the ll.m.( professional) programme.

In order to apply for LL.M. (Professional) Programme, a candidate is required to fill an online application form available at the University website . Admission to the course is confirmed if the candidate fulfills the minimum eligibility criteria which is listed below:

A person who has completed his/her graduation/post-graduation in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks and has been in service, or has had professional experience of at least three years will be eligible to enroll for the programme. Submission of official documents to confirm minimum qualification is mandatory.

Incase of ineligibility, the fee is refunded, subject to processing fees.

What is the course structure of the LL.M.( Professional) Programme? Which specializations are being offered this year?

Candidates enrolled in the programme will have to successfully complete eight papers. There shall be four core papers in Semester I and one optional/specialization papers in Semester II. Each specialization carries four subjects . Specific subjects under each specialization will be announced in December 2023, however, it is understandable that the courses will expand in the said theme.

What is the nature of assessment in the ll.m.( professional) programme.

Assessment for LL.M. (Professional) Programme has two components – 30 marks internal assignment (online) and 70 marks examination (sit-down/in-person).

What will be the nature of mixed mode classes? When and where will they be held?

LL.M. (Professional) Programme is an Executive Diploma Programme conducted in mixed mode. Every semester has two sets of contact classes. Each set has 3 days. On each of the days, contact classes are held in person for the duration of two hours for every subject. The classes are held on weekends at National Law University Delhi campus in Dwarka-Sector 14, New Delhi; Friday, Saturday and Sunday, in the morning session starting from 9:30 AM onwards, in order to enable working professionals to join.

Is attendance compulsory for the contact classes?

Every student shall be required to secure a minimum of 75% of attendance in every subject to be eligible to appear for the end semester examination.

Is work experience mandatorily required to be eligible for LL.M. (Professional) Programme? What is the minimum work experience required?

In order to be eligible for LL.M. (Professional) Programme, a candidate must possess a work experience of at least 3 years.

Is LL.M.(Professional) Programme equivalent to LL.M. Regular Programme?

The LL.M.(Professional) Programme is an Executive Diploma Programme. As it is equivalent to a P.G.Diploma Course, LL.M.(Professional) Programme does not qualify a candidate to the academic and other professional benefits obtainable from a regular LL.M. Course.

Is the fee to be paid at the time of applying to the LL.M.(Professional) Programme. Will I be refunded in case my application is found to be ineligible for admission?

The tuition fees for the programme for Indian Nationals (all categories) shall be Rs. 1,25,000 [One Lakh, Twenty Five Thousand only]. The full payment of the fee needs to be made at the time of filling the application form. Incase of ineligibility, the fee is refunded, subject to processing fees.

Is there an age limit to apply for the LL.M. (Professional) Programme?

LL.M.(Professional) Programme is open for candidates of all age groups and genders across all disciplines. Candidates do not need to have a law background to apply to the programme.

R egistrations for the Common University Entrance Test are ending today, March 26, 2024. Candidates who meet the eligibility requirements can submit their application forms online through the official website at cuetug.ntaonline.in. Once the window for applications closes, the correction window will open on March 28 wherein candidates can make corrections on their applications till March 29, 2024.

The CUET UG examination is scheduled to be conducted from May 15 to May 31, 2024, in Hybrid mode (Computer-Based Test (CBT) / Pen & Paper). The Common University Entrance Test is being conducted for admission into all UG Programmes in all Central Universities for Academic session 2024-25.

In this article, we will look at those central universities which have NIRF rankings among the other central universities offering admissions through CUET. As per the 2023 NIRF rankings, the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) tops the chart with rank 2, followed by Jamia Millia Islamia that bagged the third spot. • Click on CUET UG 2024 registration link available on the home page.
• Enter the required details and register yourself.
• Once done, fill the application form and make the payment of fee.
• Click on submit and download the page.
• Keep a hard copy of the same for further need.
