About District

Kolhapur city is situated on the banks of Panchganga river and is surrounded by  Sahyadri mountain ranges. It is a city known for its historical forts, temples and royal places of erstwhile royals. It is one of the best places to explore the splendor and magnificence of India.

Kolhapur is about 387 km from the Mumbai, the financial capital of India and is famous for the Indian handcrafted leather slippers the kolhapuri chappals and its unique local jewelry a special type of necklace called Kolhapuri Saaj.

Kolhapur is famous for the shri. Mahalakshmi Temple and according to the popular belief goddess Mahalakshmi started residing in kolhapur following a quarrel with her husband lord Vishnu. Kolhapur derived its name from a mythological event legend says, Goddess Mahalakshmi killed a demon named Kolhasur who used to oppress the local people. New Delhi, the city I proudly call my home, has been a centre of art, architecture, culture, and trade for centuries. It has a population of over one crore and is situated on the banks of the Yamuna river. I have been living in this city for 18 years. Since the population is huge, most of us in Delhi live in apartments built in high-rise buildings.

An Urban Centre

The city is closely woven with a vast metro network connecting it to other metropolises in the National Capital Region. My city has an effective public transportation system, and lakhs of people travel by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses and the metro, on a daily basis. A major part of the population of my city consists of the younger generation studying in colleges or working in offices.

Places To See

There are many other marketplaces in my city. New Delhi also has many malls, cafés, and parks. The parks in my city are lovely, such as the Lodhi Garden, Central Park, and the Garden of Five Senses, and are always flocked by visitors.

New Delhi remains a big hustle and bustle the whole day, even at midnight. It is an urban centre in the true sense.

Architecture

Delhi has a rich history and numerous monuments, such as mosques, forts, and mausoleums. Places such as India Gate, Red Fort, Jantar Mantar, and Jama Masjid are architectural marvels and have great historical importance. Many great rulers and historically important figures have their tombs in my city. Delhi is also home to the Rashtrapati Bhavan and the Parliament of India. I am always left in awe whenever I visit these monuments.

Foodies’ Heaven

Delhi is famous for its food. Parathas from the Paratha Gali in Chandni Chowk, Momos in Lajpat Nagar, and chicken stalls in Jama Masjid are enjoyed by tourists and visitors worldwide. From roadside stalls to lavish and expensive restaurants, you can always find good food in my city, for your taste buds to relish. My favourite food is the momos, famous as “Delhi ke momos” in the country.

What I Love About Delhi

Although there is hardly anything about Delhi that I do not like, here are a few things I love the most about my city:-

I love travelling by metro. The metro in my city is very clean, fast, and affordable. I love to explore my city.

I have explored the bazaars and many of my favourite places numerous times with my friends. Likewise, I am particularly fond of the Sarojini Market in my city because it has cheap clothes and great food stalls.

The best place in my city is the Delhi zoo. I love watching different kinds of animals. My favourite animal in the zoo is the giraffe. I also like watching different types of birds.

Despite the problem of alarming pollution levels, I love my city for what it is. It still is a beautiful place to live and has so much to offer, being the capital of India. My city has played a huge role in making me the person I am today. It has been home of my parents and grandparents for years. I have fond memories of my city which I can never part away with. Everything about my city is cherishable and unique to me.

1. Mahalaxmi Temple

One of the greatest tourist attractions in the city is the Mahalaxmi Temple. 2. Rankala Lake

Rankala Lake dates back to the 19th century and was constructed by the Chhatrapati king, Shivaji. It is one of the oldest  lakes in India . 8. Bhavani Mandap

Bhavani Mandap is a small quaint monument nestled inside the walled city of Kolhapur. The place has rich historical significance and was built a long time ago. The Mandap is also referred to as “the glory” of Kolhapur, constructed during the reign of King Shivaji Maharaja II. Bhavani Mandap used to belong to the king of Kolhapur as one of his palaces and was also used as a durbar. The king conducted important meetings, litigations, and celebrations inside this building. The place also had living quarters for many of its court officials. A colossal statue is placed right in front of the Mandap, of the most loved king of Kolhapur, Shahu Maharaj, who was practically under the British Raj throughout his reign. There are many interesting artefacts on display here, such as the stuffed trophies of deer and panthers, which were hunted by the King. One such piece is a giant stuffed bison on which, many threads of saffron are generously spread. 9. Panhala Fort

Panhala Fort, also known as Panhalgad, is a fortress located 21 km to the northwest of Kolhapur, and one of the major tourist attractions. The construction of the fort was finished in the 13th century and was built by Raja Bhoja II. The geographical location of this place was ideal for fortification as it oversaw the Sahyadri pass which served as an important trade route of Bijapur. Because of its strategic location in the Deccan, many conflicts and skirmishes took place here in history between the British, Marathas, and Mughals. The famous queen ruler, Tarabai, spent years in this ancient fort.

The Panhala Fort is one of the most massive forts in the Deccan land, its perimeter stretching to 15 km, and the fort stands at an altitude of over 2700 feet above sea level. Several underground tunnels run from underneath the fortress, many of which are over a kilometer long.

The biggest attractions of the fort are the Teen Darwaza, Amber Khana, Sajja Kothi, Dharma Kothi, along with several temples and mausoleums. The architecture of the place resembles the typical Bijapuri style. You will be taken aback to see the Andar Bavadi (translates to hidden well). It consists of 3 stories with winding stairways concealing the well that acted as the primary source of water for the warriors. This is because whenever an outside force besieged a fort, they poisoned the water. Besides its brilliant design, it also houses many hidden exit routes. The Andar Bavadi is, therefore, a fort within a fortress that has its source of water, quarters, and escape routes. No wonder, it is one of the special places to see in Kolhapur. Maharashtra is one of the state of India. It is located in the western part of India. Mumbai is the capital of Maharashtra, and it is also known as the financial capital of India.

There are many reasons to love Maharashtra. Maharashtra is 3rd most significant state in India is wise. It is the second most populated state following Uttar Pradesh if we talk about it population-wise. 

Maharashtra has the Arabian Sea flowing on its western coast. The neighboring states of Maharashtra are Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, and Karnataka. 

The main rivers of Maharashtra are Godavari and Krishna. This state has many big cities like Mumbai, Pune, Aurangabad, Nasik, Nagpur, etc.

As we all know that Maharashtra is a very populated state. There are various types of community living there, such as Hindu, Muslims, Christian, Jain, Buddhist, Sikh, etc.

People of Maharashtra are multi-lingual. They speak many languages, like Hindi, Gujarati, English, Marathi, Kannada, etc.

Places to visit in Maharashtra

Maharashtra has a huge number of places to visit. The Mumbai city is the center of the attraction itself. There are various places to visit in Maharashtra, along with Mumbai. These places include:-

• Gateway of India: People who come to Mumbai cannot say no to this place. It is a landmark of Maharashtra. It was built in early 1924.
• The local trains of Mumbai are famous across the country as well as all over the world. The very famous railway station of Mumbai is Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. It is also famous as CST. This railway station is famous for its extraordinary architectural style. Many Bollywood movies have been shot here.
• The ancient temple of Ellora has many stories to tell you. It is a very famous place near Aurangabad.
• Ajanta and Ellora caves are declared heritage sites by UNESCO. We can find a hundred caves. Every cave is telling its own story. It has a large number of carvings.
• The other ancient caves are Kanheri Caves. It contains Buddhist paintings, and they belong to the 19th century.
• Siddhivinayak Temple is a very famous temple of Lord Ganesha. It is located in Mumbai and famous among the devotees across the country.
• The Haji Ali dargah is also located in Mumbai. 
• The Pratapgarh also has its history of the battle. It was won in the 17th century.
• The Kolhapur, located very well known as the Mahalakshmi temple, is famous for its architectural styles. It was built in the 12th century. The devotees across the country come here to devote the goddess.
• In Maharashtra, there is also an animal sanctuary called The Rajiv Gandhi national park. This place is the house of many animals and birds. The snake park is the main attraction of this place.
• In the Buldhana district of Maharashtra, there is a less known saline water lake with a significant history in Lonar.
• There are lots of places in Maharashtra to visit, such as Juhu Chopati in Mumbai, Film city, Taj Palace Hotel, The Krishna temple in Pandharapur.

Maharashtra has always been a land of warriors. When we see the history of Maharashtra, we cannot ignore the famous personalities of Maharashtra, which had a significant role in the foundation of Maharashtra.

• Chhatrapati Shivaji is a very famous warrior and idol of Marathas. Marathas worship him. They consider Chhatrapati Shivaji as the leader who established and brought fame to the Maratha Empire when he was ruling.  
• The most essential personality who is responsible for making the constitution of India, the person who fought for the backward communities, Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar was also from Maharashtra.
• In the sports industry, there are huge names, which belong to Maharashtra, such as Sachin Tendulkar. People call him God of cricket. He belongs to Mumbai.
• Rohit Sharma, Ravi Shashtri, Vinod Kambli, Ajinkya Rahane, etc. are the massive names in the game of cricket. They all belong to Maharashtra.

Mumbai – The Capital city of Maharashtra

 Mumbai is the biggest city of not just Maharashtra but also of India. Mumbai is the capital city of Maharashtra, but it is also the financial capital of India.

• Mumbai has a huge role in the GDP of India. Headquarters of Many Big companies and firms have been established here. Mumbai has the oldest financial markets of the world knows as the BSE and The NSE – The Bombay Stock Exchange and The National Stock Exchange. 
• Mumbai is the city, which never sleeps. It is a very lively place. Mumbai is the dream city of many young people in India. It opens the door of opportunities. It is saying that People may get difficulties to live, but people never get a problem to eat.
• When people think of Mumbai, the very first thought that they get is Bollywood. It is the film industry of Mumbai. Many studios are established in this capital city of Maharashtra. There are several big names of the film industry who live here, such as Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Deepika Padukon, and many more.
• The capital city of Maharashtra is famous for its food items. The very renowned food in Mumbai is Vadapav. It is famous across the country. There many dishes, which are celebrated like Pavbhaji, Mumbai Special Bhel, and Chats. 
• Not only these, but some world-famous institutes are also in Maharashtra, such as IIT Bombay, JBIMS, NMIMS, Symbiosis, etc.
• Mumbai is called New York of India because it never stops.

Famous Fruits Grown in Maharashtra

Maharashtra has very well known for its fruit production. The state produces a very good amount of fruits. The popular cities of state popular for production of fruits include:-

• Solapur and Jalgaon are famous for the production of banana. Jalgaon is the banana capital of India. It produces more than 15% of India’s total banana production.
• Nasik is famous for the production of grapes. It is also known as the wine capital of Maharashtra. It is the biggest supplier of grapes in India.
• Alphonso Mangoes of Ratnagiri is very famous across the country. It is famous for the production of mangoes called hapus.
• Nagpur is famous for its wide range of production of oranges. The city is known as the city of mangoes. It is listed in the green city of India.
• Mahabaleshwar is famous for the production of strawberries. Mahabaleshwar is the hill station, and many tourists across the county visit this place.

Maharashtra is an integral part of India. It is among the developed states of India in many ways, such as tourist attraction, religious places, economically, Maharashtra is very privileged. Overall, Maharashtra is a must-visit state.

India is our country and the Maharashtra is located in the western part when we look at its location. The capital city of Maharashtra is Mumbai, well known as the financial capital of India.

Maharashtra is popular for many reasons, if we look at the area covered by the state; it appears to be the third largest state in the country.

Population wise, it is the second most populated state in the country. The regional language of the state is Marathi, but we can also find majority of Hindi speaking community residing in the state.

The state has Arabian Sea flowing on its western coast. This state is surrounded by many states like Karnataka, Goa, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Godavari and Krishna are the main rivers of Maharashtra.

The state of Maharashtra has the Western Ghats running through its western coastline, where we can also find the world famous Konkan railway line.

The state is mainly housed in the Deccan plateau. The state has many important cities like Mumbai, Pune, Aurangabad, Nasik, Nagpur etc.

Majority of the people practise Hinduism, along with the Muslim, Christian and Jain communities. Buddhists and Sikhs also form a small portion of the population.

Along with Marathi speaking people, we can find a lot of Hindi, Gujarathi and Kannada speaking population in the state.

The state is into a lot of industrial activities right from manufacturing sectors, automobiles, textile industries, media and telecom industries, fashion ventures, tourism and most importantly, the film industry.

Let us explore them one by one. The landmark gateway of India stands tall and triumphant at Mumbai and it was built as early as 1924.

The suburban railway connection can be experienced when one boards a local train at Chhatrapati Shivaji terminus.

This railway station is very popular for its architectural styles and we can find this as a landmark in many of the Hindi movies of yore.

The ancient temples at Ellora offer a bit of history and the famous Kailasa temple have many a stories to tell from their carvings.

It is a UNESCO heritage site and we can find around a hundred caves, each telling its own story and have thousands of carvings within these caves.

Aga Khan, the Mughal king built his own palace in the 19 th century and today it’s a very famous tourist attraction for people who re interested in knowing more about our historical kings and queens.

The kanheri caves are other ancient caves containing Buddhist paintings and they also belong to the 19 th century.

The Siddhivinayak temple at Mumbai is the abode of Lord Ganesh and is very famous among ardent devotees.

Many celebrities from Bollywood can be seen walking barefoot from their residences all the way to the temple to make their offerings for lord. Shivneri and Pratapgad are other hill top forts that have historical significance.

Pratapgad has mention in history because of the battle that was won in the 17 th century. The famous Mahalakshmi temple at Kolhapur is known for its 12 th century architectural styles and is known to be the abode of power and devotion among many devotees throughout the country.

The Rajiv Gandhi National Park is an animal sanctuary and home to many animals and birds along with a special snake park, which is the main attraction of the sanctuary.

A less known saline water lake with historical significance in Lonar, which is located in the Buldhana district, is the Lonar Crater Lake.

Fort Bassein is not preserved by the state and when one visits this place, they can find the ruins of the monument and torn-apart structures like arches, pillars and other fallen pieces of the once-famous fort.

Mulshi dam and Rankala Lake are other breathtaking picnic spots that one can spend time with families and friends.

The Krishna temple at Pandharapur is also very famous for its age-old architectural styles and believed to be one of the main worship centers of Lord Krishna.

Last but not the least, the world famous UNESCO heritage sites – the Ellora caves and the elephant caves has to be mentioned to mark their rich sculptures.

When we peep into history, we can find a lot of significant people from rulers of dynasties to political leaders having connection with this happening state.

The very famous Chhatrapati Shivaji is an idol to all Marathis and they worship him with all devotion even today. They consider him as their leader who established and brought fame to the Maratha Empire during his ruling days.

The person responsible for writing the constitution of India and the man who fought for the rights of the downtrodden communities, Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar was also from this state.

Other personalities like Jyotibha Phule and Baba Amte were also from the same state. Lokamanya tilak finds mention in the freedom struggle diaries of India and so is Vinobha Bhave.

In the field of cricket, one can find many cricketers to be part of this state and some of the noted ones are Sachin Tendulkar, Ravi Shastri, Vinod Kambli, etc.

Now comes the Bollywood connection. The capital city of Maharashtra and also the financial capital of the country are home to majority of the film fraternity and celebrities from cinema.

Many studios are situated in this capital city. The city is also house to some of the top industrialists of our country and has rich culture of art and traditions in its going.

The world famous pav bhajis are a product of this city and the chats that we enjoy on rainy evenings are all originated from here.

Not only this, the city also has some world famous educational institutions- schools and colleges that one can find nowhere else.

Mumbai is popularly known as the city that never sleeps, that is because the city is almost always alive, even late in the nights.

Popularly called as the new York of India, the city boasts of excellent infrastructure and has the latest technologies induced in development.

It is connected by rail from all important cities of India and the international airport speaks of high standards and is something to be proud of. The Mumbai-Worli sea link is a marvel in itself and is one of the best constructions in our country till date.

Food and shopping is something that one can’t miss when at Mumbai. Being the financial capital of India, it is home to one of the oldest financial markets of the world – the NSE and the BSE, the National Stock exchange and the Bombay stock exchange facilities.

Fashionable and elite celebrities flock to this city to make it their home and one can find it to be a favorite place among the youth.

The state of Maharashtra is a lively place and the city of Mumbai, in particular is a must-visit place in the country and youngsters consider it a happening place.

I have visited Imam Bara quite a few times. The first time I visited this place with my parents when I was very young. A few years later I visited the place as a part of my school excursion. We also went to the place when my maternal aunt and cousins visited us. I can visit Imam Bara over and over again and still not get bored.

We often visited marine drive in the evening. A stroll by the river side was extremely rejuvenating. I also loved shopping trips to Bhootnath and Hazrat Ganj markets with my mother. We both love shopping and the variety of things we got there was just amazing.

I just can’t wait to be in the city of Nawabs yet again. I am craving to have the delicious kabab roles and korma of Lucknow. I also want to visit all my favourite places in the city and meet my old friends.

My favourite spot in the city is of course Sukhna Lake. The place is becoming happening by the day. The atmosphere here in the morning is completely different compared to that in the evening. In the morning, the place is calm and serene filled with fresh air. It is the best place to relax and unwind. In the evening, it is crowded with people enjoying boat rides and having snacks. Electronic swings have also been installed for children. The place is full of hustle and bustle during the evening hours. It is a good place to go out with friends as well as family. Delhi is known for its beautiful monuments. There are a number spectacular monuments standing tall since centuries. Many new edifices have been built later and are as magnificent. Tourists from around the world visit Delhi to see these monuments. Here is a look at some of the most popular monuments in my city:

Red fort is one of the oldest monuments in Delhi. Made of red sandstone, the fort encompasses various museums. This brilliant piece of architecture was built by the Mughals in the 16 th century. The Mughal emperors lived here for almost 200 years.

• Humayun’s Tomb

It is said that Humayun’s Tomb is a replica of the marvellous Taj Mahal. It is made with red sandstone and white marble. The tomb is an example of the Persian style of Islamic architecture. The tomb is 47 metres high and 91 metres wide and is surrounded by beautiful Persian-style garden.

• Lotus Temple

As the name suggests, this temple is built in the shape of a lotus. It has 27 petals made of white marble. It has nine doors that open into the main hall. The marvellous edifice is big enough to accommodate up to 2500 people at a time.

Lotus Temple is a Bahai House of Worship however it is open for people belonging to any religion.

• Qutub Minar

Yet another architectural brilliance, Qutub Minar is also made of red sand stone. It was built by Qutub Ud-Din-Aibak. This 73 metre tall edifice is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It consists of five storeys that are connected through spiral staircase.

India Gate is yet another historical monument in the city that draws numerous tourists from around the world. The names of martyrs are engraved on this monument. The Amar Jawan Jyoti lit under this monument is a tribute to the Indian soldiers.

• Akshar Dham Temple

Akshar Dham Temple is a place of devotion and purity. It is the latest addition in the list of monuments in Delhi. It was opened for public in the year 2005. Besides the beautifully carved temple and other marvellous buildings, the Akshar Dham complex includes lush green gardens and water bodies.

I have been to all these places and can visit these over and over again. I have beautiful memories of these places.

Apart from the historical monuments, Delhi also includes numerous places to shop around. It can certainly be called a shopper’s delight. I love visiting different markets that do not only give me an opportunity to buy good stuff but also gives me a chance to have delectable street food. I can’t imagine myself living anywhere other than Delhi.

I remember my happiness a lot, and how my father worked hard with me to teach me to drive, and we spent the whole day trying to teach me to drive on my own. The presence of an area designated for cycling enthusiasts helped me a lot.

I also have several other areas where I have a lot of happy moments, such as cinemas, clubs that have a swimming pool. There I learned to swim with my coach.

My city is wonderful and has many wonderful places. We have wonderful and clean schools, and we own many famous and huge restaurants that I love to eat in , especially pizza.

We also have many wonderful malls that consist of more than one floor. I enjoy a lot of going with my family and wandering around all the floors and going up the escalator, and seeing the shops and clothes, that makes me very happy.

After touring and buying, we always go to eat ice cream or wonderful drinks in the cafe located at the bottom of the mall. We make this place a habit that we always repeat whenever we go to the mall.

This is my wonderful city that I love and I do not feel that there is anything missing.

There are more than 20 towns in America called Moscow. Why is that?

When Jack Spaulding was growing up in Moscow, Tennessee, he always wondered how the town, a small, rural community of about 80 residents, got its name. It didn’t seem to have any obvious connection with Russia, but could any of the local tales he’d heard actually be true?

“I would ask all the old folks here in town if anybody knew how the town got its name. Well, I got all these hokey answers like, ‘Well, it’s because of the moss and… they used to send the cows down there to graze on the moss. Moss cow. And then after that Ma’s cow — like, belonging to your mother’s. … Nobody really had any idea where the name came about,” Spaulding says.

Spaulding eventually dug deeper, and his research turned up an unexpected finding: The area had been known as something like “Moscow” since before the town was founded in the early 1800s. That clue led him in a new direction.  

“I went through the dictionary looking for any type of word that would sound similar to Moscow or would be spoken by Europeans like ‘Moscow’ and I believe as I recall, the word closest to that was Mashetow,” he says.

According to Spaulding, Mashetow was a Native American word meaning “to go” or “the place to where we’re going.”

“I think Moscow was the place to where the Native Americans would go for the watering ground. … What is this place? Mashetow! This is the place we’re going.”

Spaulding’s conclusion wasn’t definitive, but it was a worthy effort. He isn’t the only person to set out trying to figure out why a small town in the middle of America acquired the same name as the capital of Russia. There are more than 20 identically named cities scattered across the country. There’s a Moscow in Idaho near the border with Washington, another up north in Maine and one down south in Texas.

When Ren Vasilyev, now a professor of geography at the State University of New York Geneseo, was a graduate student, she decided to tackle the riddle of America’s many Moscows. It was 1986, the height of the Cold War battle with the Moscow-capitaled Soviet Union, and in those misty pre-Internet days, a project like this required a lot of analog legwork.

She poured through old county history books, and found that just as with Spaulding’s hometown, most of the Moscows in America didn’t have anything to do with Russia or its capital.

One was the result of a misunderstanding: Moscow, Kansas. Town officials had tried to name their city after Luis de Moscoso, a Spanish conquistador, but they decided to shorten the name to M-O-S-C-O. When they submitted an application to create a post office, it came back with the extra letter.

“The guy in DC thought that these little silly people in Kansas didn’t know what they were doing and had spelled the name wrong. So he had added that W on it,” Vasilyev says.

But, the most common reason people named their community Moscow, she learned, was more straightforward.

“Things like Spring Valley or Springfield or Blossom Hill, or you know, those kind of pretty generic names were already taken. And so people started using what were considered exotic names, hoping that no one had already used them,” she says.

The mystery of the Moscows of America also intrigued Erjan Aisabay, who set out to visit all of them and write a book about his experience. Aisabay, who was born in Kazakhstan but attended college in the original Moscow, launched his project hoping that America’s shared love of Russia’s capital city might help bring the two countries together.

But as Aisabay drove from state to state, his dream of finding a Russian connection dwindled. And some of America’s Muscovites turned out to be less than supportive. Like in Moscow, Texas, where his attempt to strike up a conversation didn’t turn out as planned.

“I say, ‘Hi my name is so and so, you know I’m writing a book about Moscows’ and then you know she looks at me like completely mistrust and she’s like ‘You should leave.’ … And I saw something that looked like a gun. … This was my last Moscow and I’m like, ‘I don’t want to die in my last Moscow!’”

Aisabay was disappointed by what he found during his tour — he had hoped to see more people studying Russian, or other signs of a greater interest and connection to the original Moscow. Vasilyev, the professor, takes a more optimistic view.

“I was actually pleased that the Americans who were settling here from other places, from other European places, were taking Moscow as a name thinking of it as a prestigious name. People don’t want to live in a place that isn’t prestigious. … People want it to be something other than, you know, Hog’s Hollow,” she says. That’s what Moscow, Idaho, the biggest Moscow in the US, was originally named.

My City Essay 2 (300 words)

Introduction

I was just 2 years old when my parents shifted to Noida. Noida is a planned city that forms a part of the National Capital Region of India. The city came into existence on 17 th April 1976 and the day is celebrated as Noida Day each year.

My City My Lifeline

I have been living in Noida for the last 12 years. I still remember our old house where I spent 3 years of my life. Though, I was very young at that time, I still have fond memories of my friends who lived in our neighbourhood.

We stayed in a rented accommodation for the first 3 years and then moved to our own flat in a beautiful society that has all the modern amenities. My school is at a distance of just 3 km from my house and my parents’ office is close by too.

The Mall Excursions

Noida is known for its big malls and shopping complexes. People from Delhi and other parts of NCR specially visit these malls to spend good time with their family and friends. I have visited all these malls and just love the fun time spent here. We go to these malls for movies, gaming and also for family dinners. Since the last few months my parents have also started allowing me to go to the malls with friends although they pick and drop me to the place. Excursions to these malls are super exciting. I especially love playing different games such as bowling and air hockey at these malls.

Noida Foodie’s Delight

Noida is certainly a Foodie’s delight. With so many offices and educational institutes around, Noida is a hub for delectable street food. All kinds of food items, from Lucknowi kababs to Chinese momos – everything available here is just delicious.

My city is one of the most happening cities in the country. Everything here is just awesome. I just wish the government here strengthens women security too.

My City Essay 3 (400 words)

Lucknow is my city of birth. It is where my family and extended family lives. We used to live here until I was 10 years old but around 2 years back we had to move to Rajasthan because my father’s business demanded so. I and my parents shifted to Udaipur, Rajasthan however my brother continued to live there with our grandparents because of his preparation for IIT JEE exam as he say I am studying from the best coaching institute for IIT JEE in Lucknow so can’t leave this. However, my father’s project is now complete and we shall soon be moving back to Lucknow. I will be celebrating my thirteenth birthday in my very own city and I am super excited about it.

My Early Memories of Lucknow

We lived in a joint family. I lived with my parents and grandparents. My early memories of Lucknow are all related to my grandparents, their stories, the streets of Lucknow and the weekend trips to the nearby markets. I remember going for morning walk with my grandfather who used to narrate his childhood experiences on the way. I remember the freshness of the bougainvillea plant that grew in our backyard.

I remember my evening visits to the beautiful white marble temple with my grandmother. I remember the fragrance of the freshly prepared kabab paranthas at the street stall in our neighbourhood. I also remember my weekend trips to the market with my parents. We shopped and ate and had a lot of fun during that time.

My Favourite Spots in Lucknow

Lucknow is known for its markets, its scrumptious food, beautiful monuments and. My favourite spots in Lucknow are the Imam Bara, Marine Drive, Hazrat Ganj market and Bhootnath market. I have a lot of fond memories of these places.

I have visited Imam Bara quite a few times. The first time I visited this place with my parents when I was very young. A few years later I visited the place as a part of my school excursion. We also went to the place when my maternal aunt and cousins visited us. I can visit Imam Bara over and over again and still not get bored.

We often visited marine drive in the evening. A stroll by the river side was extremely rejuvenating. I also loved shopping trips to Bhootnath and Hazrat Ganj markets with my mother. We both love shopping and the variety of things we got there was just amazing.

I just can’t wait to be in the city of Nawabs yet again. I am craving to have the delicious kabab roles and korma of Lucknow. I also want to visit all my favourite places in the city and meet my old friends.

My City Essay 4 (500 words)

I live in Chandigarh. I am born and brought up here and I simply love the essence of this place. My city is the most beautiful one in the country. It is one of the seven union territories in India and is the capital city of both Punjab and Haryana.

History and Origin of the City

Chandigarh happens to be the first planned city in India. Its origin dates back to the post independence era. During the partition of India, Punjab was also divided into two parts. Punjab’s capital, Lahore formed a part of the newly formed Pakistan and the state was thus left without any capital. Chandigarh was planned with the aim of giving a capital to Punjab. In the year 1966, a new state was carved from Eastern Punjab. It came to be known as Haryana. Chandigarh serves as the capital of both Punjab and Haryana.

Chandigarh City – Planned and Organized

Chandigarh is known to be a well-planned city. It is appreciated for its design and architecture all over the world. Since it was the dream city of the then Indian Prime Minister, Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru special care was taken to build its architecture. American Architect, Albert Mayer was specially called to lay its design. Popular French architect Le Corbusier designed various buildings and contributed to the city’s architecture. The city is divided into various sectors and each sector has its own market and residential area. The city is well planted with a variety of beautiful trees.

Chandigarh’s main attraction is the Sukhna Lake which is an artificial lake in sector 1. It was created in 1958 and has since been one of the most happening spots in the city.

The people of Chandigarh have kept up with the systematic approach it was built with. Not only is the city well designed but it is also kept extremely clean in every way. You will not find any litter around as is seen in various other parts of the country. Traffic police in the city is extremely vigilant. No one can dare to break the traffic rules here. The discipline is maintained at every level. People live in peace and harmony here.

Sukhna Lake – My Favourite Spot

My favourite spot in the city is of course Sukhna Lake. The place is becoming happening by the day. The atmosphere here in the morning is completely different compared to that in the evening. In the morning, the place is calm and serene filled with fresh air. It is the best place to relax and unwind. In the evening, it is crowded with people enjoying boat rides and having snacks. Electronic swings have also been installed for children. The place is full of hustle and bustle during the evening hours. It is a good place to go out with friends as well as family. I can visit the place early morning as well as in the evening. I love it when it is calm and quite as well as when it is full of people.

Chandigarh is not just my city, it is my lifeline. I wish to spend all my life here. I don’t think I will be able to live as happily and peacefully in any other city.

My City Essay 5 (600 words)

I live in Delhi since I was 3 years old and I am completely in love with this city. Life here is fast, people here are full of life and the food you get here is just awesome. The capital of India, Delhi boosts of a rich historical past and beautiful edifices.

Delhi’s Historical Past

The history of Delhi dates back to the 12 th century. It is known as the oldest inhabited cities not just in India but around the world. Delhi has been ruled by several powerful kings including Ibrahim Lodi, Zaheeruddin Muhammad Babur, Sher Shah Suri, Prithvi Raj Chauhan, Qutub-ud-Din Aybak, Jalal-ud-din Firuz Khilji, Shah Alam Bahadur Shah I and Akbar Shah II to name a few. The city was destructed and re-built several times by different emperors.

It is believed that the Pandvas also lived in this part of the country. During that era, the city was known by the name, Indraprastha. The Old Fort (Purana Qila) is said to have been constructed during that time.

Delhi’s Beautiful Monuments

Delhi is known for its beautiful monuments. There are a number spectacular monuments standing tall since centuries. Many new edifices have been built later and are as magnificent. Tourists from around the world visit Delhi to see these monuments. Here is a look at some of the most popular monuments in my city:

Red fort is one of the oldest monuments in Delhi. Made of red sandstone, the fort encompasses various museums. This brilliant piece of architecture was built by the Mughals in the 16 th century. The Mughal emperors lived here for almost 200 years.

• Humayun’s Tomb

It is said that Humayun’s Tomb is a replica of the marvellous Taj Mahal. It is made with red sandstone and white marble. The tomb is an example of the Persian style of Islamic architecture. The tomb is 47 metres high and 91 metres wide and is surrounded by beautiful Persian-style garden.

• Lotus Temple

As the name suggests, this temple is built in the shape of a lotus. It has 27 petals made of white marble. It has nine doors that open into the main hall. The marvellous edifice is big enough to accommodate up to 2500 people at a time.

Lotus Temple is a Bahai House of Worship however it is open for people belonging to any religion.

• Qutub Minar

Yet another architectural brilliance, Qutub Minar is also made of red sand stone. It was built by Qutub Ud-Din-Aibak. This 73 metre tall edifice is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It consists of five storeys that are connected through spiral staircase.

India Gate is yet another historical monument in the city that draws numerous tourists from around the world. The names of martyrs are engraved on this monument. The Amar Jawan Jyoti lit under this monument is a tribute to the Indian soldiers.

• Akshar Dham Temple

Akshar Dham Temple is a place of devotion and purity. It is the latest addition in the list of monuments in Delhi. It was opened for public in the year 2005. Besides the beautifully carved temple and other marvellous buildings, the Akshar Dham complex includes lush green gardens and water bodies.

I have been to all these places and can visit these over and over again. I have beautiful memories of these places.

Apart from the historical monuments, Delhi also includes numerous places to shop around. It can certainly be called a shopper’s delight. I love visiting different markets that do not only give me an opportunity to buy good stuff but also gives me a chance to have delectable street food. I can’t imagine myself living anywhere other than Delhi.
