Memes are often used for humor. Most importantly, they're often relatable and shared with others. Memes can be from popular culture, TV shows, music, etc. Since memes are made from pop culture or popular entertainment, they can make that piece of entertainment more popular.

How to Add a Meme to your Presentation

Once you’ve chosen a meme, you’ll need to know how to add it to your PowerPoint presentation. I’ll use the premium Terrenifa Multipurpose PowerPoint Template from Envato Elements for this tutorial. 

Let's get started:

1. Choose a Template

When looking for a template, look for one that mentions placeholders in the description. Picture placeholders make it easy to add an image. All you need to do is drag and drop the image into place.

For example, the premium template Terrenifa has picture placeholders. There are many other excellent premium presentation templates on Envato Elements that also have picture placeholders.

2. Choose Your Meme

The next step is to choose a meme everyone can relate to. Select a meme that works for both the topic of your presentation and your audience.

You can find a meme by searching on the internet for your topic with the word "meme" next to your topic. Or you can get your meme from an online source.

3. Choose the Slide

After choosing which meme you want to use, decide where to put it. This depends on your presentation.

I chose slide 3 because it's got a picture placeholder and room for text.

If there's a picture placeholder on a slide, but you don’t want the meme in that part of the presentation, you can fix this in two ways:

1. Drag-and-Drop

The first is to drag and drop the slide to the place in the presentation where you want it. When you open your premium template in PowerPoint, you’ll see mini versions of your slides on the left side of your screen.

Click on the slide that you want to move. Next, drag the slide to where you want it. When dragging the slide, you’ll notice a red line appear in-between slides. When you let go of your slide this is where the slide that you’re dragging appears.

2. Copy and Insert Slide

The second way to fix your meme's location is to copy a slide with the picture placeholder in it to where you want it.

To copy a slide, right-click on it. When you do, a menu appears. Select Duplicate Slide from the menu. An exact copy of the slide appears right under it. You can then use the first method to drag-and-drop the duplicate to where you want it,

4. Add the Meme

You can use three methods to add your meme to your presentation slide:

The first is to drag and drop the meme into the picture placeholder. After you’ve saved the meme to your computer drag and drop the image into the picture placeholder. It should appear almost immediately.

2. Use Insert Picture File Button

Click on the Insert Picture from File button in the middle of the picture placeholder. When you click on this button, it'll open the files on your computer. Find the image file for your meme and double-click on it. Your image is now added to the slide.

3. Use Insert Tab

The third method of adding an image is to click on the Insert tab above the toolbar.

After you click on the Insert tab, you’ll see a Pictures button. Click on the button. When you click on this button, a menu appears.

Choose the right option for you depending on where your file is located. Once you’ve located your file, double-click on it, and then adjust the image as needed.

5 Tips for Using Memes

Humor is a great way to engage with your audience. A meme is a modern and relatable way to add humor to your presentation. Here are some tips on how to add a meme to your presentation:

1. Make It Relatable

Your meme for your presentation must be relatable. A meme should be relatable to many people, typically the point of a meme.

Plus, your meme must be relatable to your audience. If the meme isn't relatable to your audience, then they may not find it funny.

It’s also essential that your meme follows the subject matter of your presentation. For example, your meme may be funny and relatable, but if it’s off-topic from your presentation, it could confuse the audience.

When considering which meme to use, think about who your audience is? Will they relate to the meme? Then, find out what's interesting and will get your audience's attention. What’s funny for one group may not be funny for another.

2. Make It Relevant

When giving your presentation with memes, everyone can relate to remember that you aren’t a comedian. This means that your presentation should focus on the topic and not humor. Also, you shouldn’t add too much humor to your presentation. Spreading your memes throughout the presentation is okay to engage your audience. However, you need to make sure that you aren’t overdoing it.

3. Consider Your Audience

When considering what meme to use, it's best to avoid anything that would be offensive. If you offend your audience, they'll stop listening to your presentation. This discredits you in their eyes. So, keep your memes simple, funny, and clean.

4. Focus on Value

It’s fine to add humor to your presentation and to add PowerPoint presentation memes, but don’t add too many. Adding too much humor and memes can make you seem less credible, and people won’t take your presentation seriously.

5. Be Confident

Using any device, you can go to Kapwing.com to add any song to a video, even if you don't have them saved to your device. You can find music and videos on YouTube, SoundCloud, Twitter, TikTok, or anywhere on the web and combine them in the Kapwing Studio to make any music meme you want.

1. All-Star by Smash Mouth

"Some... BODY ONCE TOLD ME" that "All-Star" by Smash Mouth is the greatest meme song ever made, and I can't disagree. It’s the opening line for long-running TV drama Law & Order , but on Monday night at primetime, it wasn’t heard on the police procedural but at the Democratic National Convention .

The DNC, which kicked off on Monday in Chicago, and the Kamala Harris campaign have embraced themes once perceived to be the domain of the Republican Party, from law and order to freedom and patriotism . (The DNC also debuted an ad titled “ Freedom ” earlier on Monday.)

The new Law & Order ad—which debuted at the DNC as an introduction to a speech by Rep. Jamie Raskin , who was a lead prosecutor of Trump’s second impeachment trial—reflects a narrative that the Harris campaign has particularly leaned into: contrasting Harris’ prosecutorial background with Trump’s felony convictions and slate of ongoing criminal cases . 

During her stints as district attorney of San Francisco and attorney general of California, Harris developed a tough-on-crime reputation, though she has also later tried to frame her experience as that of a “ progressive prosecutor .” Since Harris embarked on her 2024 presidential bid, her campaign has sought to portray her as someone well-equipped to bring Trump to justice.

“His entire life, Trump has believed he’s above the law, that no one would ever dare hold him accountable. He lies, he rips off workers, he sexually abuses women,” the voiceover continued, along with photos of a younger Trump. “He cheats in business. Since its inception in 2006, Roblox has become the subject of several hilarious memes (or funny pictures). 

The uber-popular online game and game-creation platform has done what only a select few titles in the world of gaming have done. It has transcended the medium becoming more than just a video game, but a mainstay in modern-day pop culture. 

Roblox sees roughly 70 million daily users (via DemandSage ), making it, by far, the biggest game (or platform) in the world from a daily/monthly user perspective. Because of this, jokes and funny moments that emerge from it have a high chance of becoming international phenomenons like so many already have.

The short split-second sound effect indicates a character in the game taking damage has taken on a life of its own becoming known for its modulation and hyper-low-quality. 

It has since appeared in hundreds of hilarious online videos and has even been the subject of a now-iconic YouTube documentary looking into its origins from the popular internet creator, HBomberGuy .

October 2021 lives in infamy among the Roblox community, making it ripe for extreme memage from anyone who calls themselves a Roblox fan. 

The origins of this particular meme date back to a series of server outages that plagued the Roblox platform in October 2021, where the site's entire site was closed for maintenance for the first time in several years. 

With gamers forced from the online platform, October 2021 will forever come up as a particular pain point for the community (albeit one that can be laughed at now), and is mentioned often as a joke related to any sort of personal strife, trauma, or suffering. 

Roblox Man Face

Even fans who have never played Roblox themselves will likely recognize the Roblox Man Face meme. 

This particular meme has appeared in a great many funny pictures online, taking a specifically sly-looking cosmetic face that can be used on Roblox characters in the game. 

The Roblox Man Face's half smile and almost dreamy eyes have been used in various photo edits and videos and have also gone on to be a part of the Roblox Chicken Nugget/Gegagedigedagedago memes where the face appears on a chicken nugget and sings Rednex's "Cotton Eye Joe."

Bobux is one of a few Robux (the Roblox -based online currency) memes to have emerged from the game. 

The term Bobux is used in memes to refer to the in-game currency, usually in the context of having no money or having way too much of it. 

Its origins can be traced back to a Discord conversation in 2020, where a user known as ImmaSimp used the word for the first time. From there, it quickly picked up steam and became a mainstay among the Roblox community. 

Robux Scams

Robux scams (where people inauthentically advertise ways to get the in-game currency) have become commonplace on Roblox and because of this, have taken on a life of their own as a meme. 

These memes are used when joking about those who fall for the viral Robux scams online and their usual gullibility. 

Usually, fans can spot a Robux meme when these funny pictures include mentions of "Free Robux" or authorities taking people to task for advertising fake ways to get the currency. 

Pose 28 on Dress to Impress

One of the most popular Roblox mini-games that has risen to prominence in recent years is Dress to Impress. And thus, of course, fans have latched onto pieces of this uber-popular Roblox creation, that being what is known as "Pose 28."

The online modeling simulator sees players picking outfits and striking a pose on the runway. "Pose 28" is a specific move one can use while strutting their stuff that sees the in-game avatar hilariously hold their hands behind their back and thrust their pelvis forward. 

Because of the move's odd and uniquely funny nature, it has blown up online (mainly on TikTok) appearing in many videos both in and outside of the game

Working at IKEA in Roblox

In June 2024, the modular build-it-yourself furniture magnate, IKEA became the focus of yet another meme within the Roblox universe. 

The Working at IKEA in Roblox meme comes thanks to a job posting from the Swedish houseware brand where the company was looking for an employee to work at one of its stores digitally recreated in the online game creation platform. 

The posting was memed to the moon and back by players around the world mostly in the context of wanting/needing to apply than to the local cost of living crisis/ rising unemployment. 

Despacito Spider

This will be a confusing one for those who have never ventured into Roblox 's polygonal worlds, but for fans of the game, it is a big one. 

The Despacito Spider meme comes from a character that appears in the Roblox Robloxian Highschool mini-game. He is a bizarre pill-shaped being with eight spider legs and a name that takes inspiration from the uber-popular (and memed in its own right) Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee song, "Despacito."

With his friendly yet terrifying look, Despacito Spider has become the stuff of nightmares among the Roblox fandom, usually depicted as the inexplicable horror-tinged presence in pictures and videos. 

Do You Are Have Stupid

Like any community online Roblox seems to have developed its own language. These turns of phrase are used by the community to communicate various thoughts and feelings both in and out of the game. 

Paramount of these specific parlances is, "Do you are have stupid." This nonsense phrase is often used as a reaction to something ludicrous and can be seen populating chatboxes across the Roblox platform. 

The Do You Are Have Stupid mems dates back to a Reddit post from June 2018, where a user posted an image of a  Roblox  character using the phrase in the game and joking about what exactly they were trying to say. 

Roblox Getting Banned in Turkey

Like some of the other memes on this list, this one spawned from something pulled straight from the headlines surrounding Roblox and its ever-popular community. 

On August 7, 2024, Roblox was banned in Turkey, citing child exploitation. The news of its ban in the European nation exploded among the Roblox faithful, eventually becoming a meme like so many other moments before it. 

The meme itself derives from the extreme reactions to this news, including fans being incredibly sad/devastated/inconsolable over word that they are now barred from playing the game in the country.

A JD Vance Remix Goes Viral on TikTok, as Political Memes Change Shape

A mash-up of years-old comments by the Ohio senator with a hip-hop track is finding a broad audience. It’s part of a new genre of videos on the app.

One of the hottest tracks on TikTok this summer is, unexpectedly, a 22-second Petey Pablo hip-hop beat remixed with a years-old audio clip of JD Vance — now former President Donald J. Trump’s vice-presidential pick — declaring, before his loyalties changed, that he was “a never Trump guy.”

The song has been used in more than 8,500 TikTok videos since two independent music producers created it in July. Supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris have seized on it, wagging their fingers and swinging their arms to it, some hoping to create its official dance. It was also reposted by @KamalaHQ, the campaign’s official TikTok account. Videos with the sound have racked up more than 40 million views overall, according to Zelf, a social video analytics company focused on TikTok.

It’s a marquee example of a new genre of political memes finding an audience on the short-form video app, which is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance.

Politically minded Americans are increasingly embracing TikTok to make videos and trends out of snippets of songs and speeches in this election cycle. The app — a pandemic-fueled curiosity during the last presidential election — has since exploded its user base to 170 million Americans. About half of users under 30 say they use TikTok to help them keep up with politics and political issues, according to new data from the Pew Research Center .

“People are still doing dances to random songs, but now people are doing dances to remixes of rap with Kamala Harris speeches over it,” said Emma Mont, a digital creator and administrator of @OrganizerMemes, a liberal meme account.
