Environmental protection refers to the act of protecting the environment from being destroyed. The health of our mother earth is deteriorating day by day. Human being is mostly responsible for environmental degradation on this blue planet.

Environmental pollution has reached to an extent that we can’t recover from it. But we can definitely stop the environment from being polluted more. Thus the term environmental protection arises.

The environmental protection agency, a US-based organization is putting continuous effort to conserve the environment. In India, we have an environmental protection law. But still, the growth of manmade environmental pollution has not been seen as controlled.

We all know the importance of environmental protection. In other words, we can also say that we can’t deny the importance of protecting the environment. In the name of up-gradation of lifestyle, the human being is causing harm to the environment.

In this era of development, our environment is facing a lot of destruction. It has become very much necessary to stop the condition from getting worse than what it is now. Thus there arises awareness of environmental protection in the world.

Some factors like the growth of population, illiteracy, and deforestation are responsible for environmental pollution on this earth. The human being is the only animal on this earth who plays an active role in the destruction of the environment.

So it is none but the only human beings who can play a vital role in the conservation of the environment. A US-based organization the Environmental Protection Agency is doing a lot to spread awareness among people to conserve the environment.

In the Indian constitution, we have environmental protection laws that try to protect the environment from the cruel clutch of human.

A number of environmental protection agencies are formed across the globe to protect the environment from being destroyed. In India, the environment protection act 1986 is forced in an attempt to protect the environment.

This environmental protection law is implemented after the Bhopal Gas Tragedy in 1984. All these efforts are only to protect the environment from more degradation. But still, the health of the environment has not been improved as expected. A united effort is required for environmental protection.

Environmental Protection Laws in India

There are six different environmental protection laws in India. These laws not only protect the environment but also the wildlife of India. After all, wildlife is also a part of the environment. The environment protection law in India are as follows: –

• The Environment (Protection) Act of 1986
• The Forest (Conservation) Act of 1980
• The Wildlife Protection Act 1972
• Water ( prevention and control of pollution) Act 1974
• Air (prevention and control of pollution) Act 1981
• The Indian Forest Act,1927

Maximize the use of reusable products: – One-time usable products of Plastic and paper have a very bad impact on the Environment. To replace these products, we must use reusable products in our homes more and more.

Use Rainwater harvesting: – Rainwater Harvesting is a simple method of collecting rainfall for future uses. The collected water by using this method can be utilized in different works like gardening, rainwater irrigation, etc.

Use eco–friendly cleaning products: – We must maximize the use of eco-friendly cleaning products rather than traditional products that rely on synthetic chemicals. Traditional cleaning products are mostly made from synthetic chemicals which are very dangerous to our health as well as our environment.

Environmental Protection Agency:-

The Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) is an independent agency of the U.S. Federal government which sets and enforces national pollution control standards. It was established on 2nd Dec/1970. The main motto of this agency is to protect human and environmental health along with creating standards and laws that promote a healthy environment.

Let’s protect the environment

The environment includes both non-living and living things. The environment is important because it provides us everything that we need for living especially oxygen, food and medicine.

The Environment Day is held on June 5 each year. Trees protect our environment and therefore, it is our responsibility to protect trees. Some human activities have caused serious damage to the environment. If we cut down one tree we have to plant at least two trees.

Similarly, people must give attention to forest conservation. Forests are vital for the environment.

Soil conservation is also important for the environment. Soil erosion makes the ground infertile. It affects trees badly.

Waste management is a powerful way of protecting the environment. There must be proper disposal of waste.

Pollution is the biggest danger to the environment. Smoke, dust and harmful gasses cause air pollution. These causes of air pollution come mostly from industries and vehicles.

Plastics, vehicle oil, chemicals and pesticides cause water and air pollution.

Pollution causes global warming. Due to this pollution some animals have disappeared from the world. Saving the environment would certainly protect the extinction of many species. Many endangered species would also increase in population. Let’s protect our environment.

What is an Environment?

Environment refers to the physical, biological and ecological systems and the elements around us. All these elements are present on the earth without human intervention. An environment is made up of several aspects. These include:

• Physical Components: This includes landforms (Mountains, valleys, plains), water bodies (oceans, rivers, ponds, lakes), the atmosphere of the air and finally geological features (rocks, soils and minerals). 
• Biological Components: All living organisms which live in the natural environment fall under this category. It includes microorganisms, plants and animals. 
• Ecosystems:  An ecosystem is a geographical area comprising plants, animals, and other organisms, weather and landscape, which together form a bubble of life. 
• Biodiversity: It comprises all the different types of living organisms one will find in one area. All types of organisms such as fungi, bacteria, plants and animals form biodiversity.

Why Do We Need To Save the Environment?

Thanks to our environment it allows life to exist on Earth. Our environment provides us with water, food, clean air and other vital resources for our survival. It is very important for biodiversity, maintaining ecosystems and preventing climate change.

Therefore, humans need to protect the environment to ensure a healthier future for all of us and the future generations. Another major challenge is the pollution of some of our major resources which include soil, water and air. By simply adopting sustainable practices such as reducing waste and investing in green technologies we all will be able to reduce pollution and conserve resources. 

To conclude, we must all remember that saving the environment is not a choice but a necessity. It will require global cooperation as well as individual commitment. By addressing all the above-mentioned issues, we will be able to protect the environment for us and future generations and ensure a healthier place to live.

Our environment is a very precious thing which provides us with clean air, fresh water, fertile soil, and a diverse range of ecosystems that support countless species, including humans. However, our actions over the years have only shown that we aren’t grateful. This has led to environmental degradation and climate change has reached a threatening level. Therefore, we must start with immediate actions to save our environment. 

One of the most pressing issues today is climate change. It is largely driven by the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation and several industrial activities. Due to all these activities, there have been dire consequences which can be quite evident through extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and disruptions to ecosystems.

To fight this climate change problem, we will have to work to get cleaner, renewable energy sources. We must also protect and restore our forests as they act as carbon sinks and absorb harmful greenhouse gases. 

Common issues like pollution are creating a huge problem for us as it is poisoning our air, soil and water. To work on this, we must reduce our reliance on single-use plastics and adopt an eco-friendly alternative. On the other hand, industrial emissions and vehicle pollution can be controlled by putting strict actions and electric vehicles can be promoted. For wastewater, it can be treated through responsible waste disposal to prevent contamination of our water bodies. 

Water scarcity is another growing concern. We must ensure that water is used wisely. Additionally, reducing water pollution from industrial and agricultural runoff is essential for the health of our ecosystems and aquatic life.

Biodiversity loss is another critical issue. Deforestation, habitat destruction, and overexploitation of resources are driving many species to extinction. Conservation efforts, protected areas, and sustainable practices in agriculture and fisheries are vital to preserving our planet.

In conclusion, we must address climate change, pollution, biodiversity loss, and water scarcity through a combination of government policies, technological advancements, and individual actions. Our planet’s health is intricately linked to our own.

Mother Nature is the environment and all its resources that we have been blessed with. The air that we breathe, the land that we live on, the trees, rivers, waterfalls, birds and animals are all some of the blessings from Mother Nature.

We humans are also part of nature. We survive with the maximum benefits from nature in comparison to other living beings. But at the same time, it is us humans who inflict the most damage on Mother Earth. The natural environment is harmed in the name of development, industrialization, growth in populations and man’s greed and selfishness.

Man takes maximum benefits from the air and water sources around him. At the same time, man pollutes the air by releasing toxic fumes through vehicles and factories. Water is polluted by the release of harmful chemicals into rivers and streams and by the use of dangerous and harmful pesticides.

Dumping of garbage carelessly into rivers, streams and forests pollutes the water as well as the environment. Cutting down of trees and clearing forests for housing as well as development has caused soil erosion, drought and loss of habitat for animals.

As our natural resources are limited we need to preserve them for our future generations. We have to take necessary action to protect Mother Nature. Students can contribute by drawing and distributing colourful posters and leaflets on the importance of protecting Mother Earth and ways and methods on how we can do it. Dumping of garbage programmes should be conducted on these topics in schools as well as for the general public. Special programmes can be aired through television and radio channels.

Improper dumping of garbage, pollution of water-ways and the air should be stopped and offenders should be punished accordingly. Use of harmful chemicals should be stopped and alternative natural materials should be used. Use of toxic and nuclear substances should be banned. Illegal and unnecessary clearing of forests should be prohibited and proper planning should be carried out to provide housing for the growing population. Forest areas should be conserved and the protection of animals facing extinction should be given priority. Social media can be used for many awareness programmes to reach a wider audience.

Protecting Mother Nature is and should be a collective effort by each and every member of the society. It is our responsibility to protect Mother Nature as an act of appreciation for all the benefits she bestows on us and for the future generations. 9 Simple Things You Can Do to Help Save the Environment

•  3R – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle . Cut down on what you throw away. Follow the three “R’s” to conserve natural resources and landfill space.
• Volunteer . Volunteer for cleanups in your community. You can get involved in protecting your watershed, too.
• Educate . When you further your own education, you can help others understand the importance and value of our natural resources.
• Conserve water . The less water you use, the less runoff and wastewater that eventually end up in the ocean.
• Shop wisely . Buy less plastic and bring a reusable shopping bag.
• Use long-lasting light bulbs . Energy-efficient light bulbs reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Also, flip the light switch off when you leave the room!
• Plant a tree . Trees provide food and oxygen. They help save energy, clean the air, and help combat climate change.
• Don’t send chemicals into our waterways . Choose non-toxic chemicals in the home and office.
• Bike more . Drive less.

Good Morning to one and all present here. I am going to present a short speech on Environment. Our environment consists of all living beings as well as their surroundings. A healthy environment is one that is sustainable for a long period of time. It is the source of life for everyone. It directs the life of everyone and determines the proper growth and development.

The good or bad quality of our life is depending on the quality of our natural environment. Our need for food, water, shelter, and other things depends on the environment around us. There must be a balanced natural cycle that exists between the environment and the lives of human beings, plants, and animals.

Human society is playing a vital role in degenerating the natural environment which is affecting badly the lives on this planet. All the human actions in this modern world directly impact our ecosystem.  Many actions of us have brought big changes to this planet, resulting in many environmental problems. Increasing demand for technologies and industries is another important factor.

Various Environmental Issues

There are many harmful effects of human activities on the environment. Some of these are pollution, over-population, waste disposal, climate change, global warming, and the greenhouse effect, etc. The big reason that poses a serious threat to our environment is the harmful gases in the air.

The uncontrolled use of automobiles has increased their effects, which in turn emits harmful gases like Carbon monoxide. The electronic appliances like air conditioners and refrigerators also contaminating air by the discharge of harmful substances. The diverse effect of these gases is causing air pollution as well as global warming.

Deforestation is another major reason. The human population is increasing at a fast rate and therefore to meet their daily consumption we need to cut forests and trees. It may be for home or for fuel, but we are causing great loss to the environment.

Other factors are the depletion of natural resources like water, fuel, and food. On the other hand over-consumption of resources by humans and improper waste disposal have resulted in a huge quantity of solid and hazardous wastes. These wastes are other threats to the environment.

Solutions of the Problems of our Environment

Due to all the above human activities, our planet has reached unsustainable levels. Therefore, it is our duty and responsibility to lower the loss. Every individual can play a significant role in this solution.

For example, we should take a pledge to say ‘No’ to plastics. Instead of it, we may make use of Eco-friendly substitutes like paper and cloth bags.

The government of every country must implement strict laws for industries, those are releasing the toxic wastes for proper waste management. The awareness programs should be organized to encourage citizens to use public transport as much as possible.

Also, everyone must do plantation of trees. The less use of private vehicles will reduce the emission of harmful gases as well will save fuel resources.

In the end, I want to say that we must spread environmental awareness in our society as well as in our daily routine life. It is necessary to save and protect our environment. In my view, it is the responsibility of everyone to do our bit for the environment. Therefore, let us work together towards a greener and more sustainable future.
