Our name 24HourAnswers means you can submit work 24 hours a day - it doesn't mean we can help you master what you need to know in 24 hours. If you make arrangements in advance, and if you are a very fast learner, then yes, we may be able to help you achieve your goals in 24 hours. Remember, high quality, customized help that's tailored around the needs of each individual student takes time to achieve. You deserve nothing less than the best, so give us the time we need to give you the best.

If you need assistance with old exams in order to prepare for an upcoming test, we can definitely help. We can't work with you on current exams, quizzes, or tests unless you tell us in writing that you have permission to do so. This is not usually the case, however.

We do not have monthly fees or minimum payments, and there are no hidden costs. Instead, the price is unique for every work order you submit. For tutoring and homework help, the price depends on many factors that include the length of the session, level of work difficulty, level of expertise of the tutor, and amount of time available before the deadline. You will be given a price up front and there is no obligation for you to pay. Homework library items have individual set prices.

We accept credit cards, debit cards, PayPal, Venmo, ApplePay, and GooglePay.

Spanish Grammar

Find topics in left sidebar in top menu . Frankly, when most people think of “grammar” they don’t get very excited. But grammar can teach you something in minutes that might take days to figure out by immersion alone.

Grammar is your friend!

We believe in grammar, and we include it in our method. But let’s be honest. Studying Spanish grammar will not make you fluent. To reach a conversational level you need a complete course like the one provided by our app, Camino .

These days, it is popular in some circles to claim that there is no need to learn grammar. The thinking goes something like this:

  • I didn’t learn grammar as a child, and yet I still learned to speak. Therefore, I do not need to study grammar as an adult.

This sort of thinking ignores the fact that as an adult you have a higher mental capacity, and learning some grammar is easy and will be a big help to you.

Grammar is not the goal.

For most people, the goal is not to become a grammar expert—the goal is to be able to speak Spanish conversationally. To do that, you need a complete conversation course.

Camino is the only course that is fully integrated with the material on this website. By combining Spanish grammar exercises with real conversational practice, you will much more quickly reach a level where you can communicate effectively.

And for most people, communication is the primary goal.

Finding a Spanish Homework Helper (Tips & Advice)

help me with homework spanish

There’ll be times in your Spanish-learning journey you may require the assistance of certain studying tools or trained professionals. Having Spanish homework help would greatly improve your chances to be successful in your studies.

These days, it has become widely recognized how valuable it is to study Spanish as a second language . Nearly 500 million people worldwide use Spanish as their mother tongue, and that figure is steadily increasing. Spanish is recognized as an official language in 21 different nations.

According to the Cervantes Institute Yearbook: Spanish in The World , in 2021, Spanish is the second most spoken language in the planet, just behind Chinese Mandarin and ahead of English. Though, in practical terms, Spanish is the most relevant language to learn after English.

Some prominent economic data and the global need for trained professionals with the ability to communicate in various languages have led to an accelerated increase in the number of people seeking to learn Spanish, surpassing 24 million people today.

Sometimes those who are in the process of learning Spanish experience moments where they feel they are not performing well enough, and even think that becoming fluent in Spanish is something very difficult, but nothing could be further from the truth.

That’s why it’s very important to have the guidance and advice of an effective Spanish homework help to push you in the process.

In this article, you will learn what Spanish homework help is and how it can help you increase your fluency level .

What is a Spanish homework helper?

Learning Spanish correctly requires time, dedication, and above all, specialized tutoring with an effective method that allows a better understanding of the lessons. In some cases, during the learning process, it’s common you’re asked to do some Spanish homework: the typical assignments sent by schools of all levels to assess your progress.

A Spanish homework helper is that figure, which could be a digital tool, a face-to-face tutor, or an online academy that allows you to have continuous assistance while you undertake your Spanish lessons, achieving full compliance with required homework, and improve your fluency to a college-like level.

Some of the features that a good Spanish homework help should provide you with are:

  • Effective study and solving-problem method.
  • Proper pedagogy approach
  • Adjust to your pace
  • Have the ability to connect from anywhere.
  • Accessible price.
  • Effective method to assess your progress.
  • And most of all, to be empathic.

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced student, having a prominent resource such as Spanish homework help will allow you to stand out from the crowd and would allow you to advance faster in your learning path.

More and more students require help with their Spanish homework, and fortunately, in this article we’re going to present you some options for you to choose from.

Why should I have Spanish homework help?

help me with homework spanish

A Spanish homework helper provides focus, and a strategic approach for students to overcome any language-skills-related problems. When a student has difficulty with practice assignments, loses motivation, giving way to frustration and reluctance to learn.

Students with even great potential might simply give up on their goal of learning Spanish because they lack the necessary homework help to do so.

DID YOU KNOW…?   One of the most common reasons people stop learning a foreign language is the lack of motivation. In our Online Spanish Conversation Group Classes , you can find impulse, experiences, cooperation, and fellowship to reach your language-learning goals.

As a language learning platform, FluentU features interactive subtitles that explain Spanish words while linking to a video dictionary:

Since it has flashcards and post-video quizzes too, it’s great for in-class activities, computer lab class days, long-term group projects and individual homework assignments.

Students can access it on both web and mobile ( iOS and Android ).

With more than six million active users every month, Duolingo is the most popular language-learning platform around! Although it’s best known for its mobile app, Duolingo is also available for free on the web.

Duolingo’s Spanish course is very well-developed with plenty of support for teachers, and students can get through a lesson in as fast as 5 minutes. Each lesson consists of games like matching pairs and mock conversations for teaching vocabulary and grammar. There are also Spanish podcasts, stories and audio lessons that you can use as listening practice for students.

For a full review of Duolingo, you can check this out .

No Spanish class website would be complete without a link to an English-Spanish dictionary . Spanish Dict is the most popular online resource available, with more than a million words available for translation.

Aside from being a dictionary, it even has Spanish courses, vocabulary lists and full grammar lessons from beginner to advanced. Students can also use it as a conjugator–it can identify the tense of a Spanish verb and even show the full conjugation chart.

Memrise is a user-generated learning platform that specializes in language learning and uses flashcards as memory aids. Its focus is on conversational Spanish , and you can choose the specific Spanish dialect and accent that you want to teach.

One particular strength of Memrise is that it includes a lot of video clips of actual native speakers for students learning new Spanish vocabulary. It also keeps track of which words need to be reviewed for the day using spaced repetition.

For more about Memrise, here’s an in-depth review .

One of the best and my personal favorite is Colby College’s website. There’s stuff here for absolute beginners to the most advanced students , ranging from verb conjugation practice to more open-ended exercises and even fun multimedia activities with music.

This is a site you’ll definitely want to recommend for your Spanish language courses and encourage your students to work with often.

A cool site that does just what you think it does: It conjugates verbs . In all tenses, moods, shapes and sizes.

Students just click here and enter a verb they wish to conjugate, choose the subject pronoun they want and… ¡ahí está! (there it is!) The site even offers the -se conjugations of the imperfect subjunctive! Fancy!

A neat-o website from the University of Texas at Austin. The website features a series of video-recorded interviews with native speakers that gradually increase in complexity, so there’s something for every skill level—from beginning to superior.  Students can click around here to test themselves or build their listening comprehension skills.

9. Herramientas de espa ñol by Enrique Yepes

This is another neat site similar to Conjugation.org, but it has a greater number of topics that students can choose from.

In addition to verbs, students can click on self-correcting tutorials involving nouns and articles, adjectives, pronouns, adverbs, prepositions, vocabulary, spelling and pronunciation. Some of the links take you to “off-site” websites like StudySpanish.com .

The breadth and variety of tutorials will appeal to students looking for more comprehensive online resources.

A cool Spanish language practice website that offers drills on Spanish grammar . For each grammar topic, there are ten sentences where you have to fill in the blanks using dropdowns. The format is interesting because one sentence can have several possible correct answers.

Although fewer grammatical points are offered for practice, a neat feature of this site is that students get extensive feedback about why a particular answer was right or wrong.

Okay, so this website isn’t exactly for practicing conjugating irregular verbs or mastering the differences between ser  and estar . Still, the grammar glossary is extremely useful for students who are still struggling to understand how a noun differs from a pronoun and what on earth “subject-verb agreement” means.

It’s a “must-have” for beginning and intermediate Spanish students, as well as for advanced students who need a refresher!

Quizlet might seem at first glance as though it would be too general for a list like this. However, the website offers the awesome capability to not only make your own study cards, but also to quickly look up and use flashcards that other students designed for their classes.

This means that there are entire sets of flashcards already available for categories like “reflexive verbs,” “body parts,” “animals,” “adjectives” and so much more. Students can even find flashcard sets based on a particular book chapter or teacher/professor.

spanish learning websites for students

This user-friendly website allows you to create your own educational games, quizzes, surveys and more, as well as explore more than ten thousand Spanish activities and quizzes created by other educators.

Students can also easily take your quizzes on the platform, and Quia automatically scores them and compile their grades for you. Why not take advantage of all those resources in one convenient location?

  • Make sure students don’t see the use of the websites simply as “busy work.” Let them know why you’re assigning the websites (practice for an exam, for example).
  • Since everyone learns differently, give your students a choice as to which websites they’ll work with.
  • Consider assigning some websites for credit and others as optional (but highly recommended!). You can even use some of the exercises in class as input material or a quick warm-up.
  • To make the websites easy to find, post an organized list of favorites online and direct students there.
  • Finally, encourage students to recommend additional nifty websites they might come across.
  • A class website saves time. Once you’ve established the site, all you have to do is to update it from year to year. For extra information, you can also just easily tell students, “It’s on the website.”
  • It increases student responsibility. With a class website, students can do anything from finding their daily homework assignments to learning about study abroad opportunities. This gives them more opportunities for active learning rather than the traditional passive method of sitting in class and listening to the teacher.
  • It makes materials accessible. A website is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. With a website in place, students can access the information on their time, in the comfort and privacy of their own homes.
  • Your website creates an online community.  This is especially true if the site includes links to foreign language clubs, cultural activities and events that students can also participate in on campus. Additionally, students can work collaboratively with tools like Google Docs without being in the same room. Teachers might also consider a comments section or chat option.
  • Most importantly, it makes learning fun. No one likes the same dry old worksheets every day with exercises divorced from the actual usage of the new language. With a class website, students can work outside the box and get more engaged.

Class-Specific Information

The first and most important information to include in any Spanish class website is class-specific information.

This includes, but is not limited to, the class syllabus and rules, the teacher’s schedule and contact information, lesson and homework materials and additional supplemental content for extra practice. This puts everything you want students and parents to know about your class right at their fingertips.

You may also decide to include a review of skills and concepts on your site so that struggling students can brush up.

Links to Other Sites

Why invent the wheel when there’s a wealth of excellent supplemental material for language study available online? There are plenty of fantastic websites available for Spanish students of all languages and at all levels. You can include any of the websites we’ve listed above, like Spanish Dict ,  StudySpanish.com or even FluentU .

Cultural Information

Another important feature of any Spanish class website is cultural information about the more than 460 million people who speak Spanish as a native language. This can include maps and information on foods, holiday traditions, history, music, currency and virtually any other topic you can think of.

Fun Extras That Relate to Spanish Language Learning

There’s so much that makes Spanish an awesome language to learn, and here’s your chance to showcase all those fun features!

This is the perfect section for:

  • Songs and videos—I highly recommend  Señor  Jordan’s hilarious and informative videos on YouTube
  • Your teacher biography (especially if you do any traveling to Spanish-speaking countries)
  • Class photos, especially photos of cultural events
  • Links to study abroad opportunities or on-campus clubs

…And pretty much anything else your students would find interesting. You know your students; go with their interests and make your website so inviting that they’ll look forward to logging on!

And there you have it—a starter guide for making a Spanish class website, with 13 amazing sites that you can share with your students right away.

Studying Spanish in Spain

Spanish Examples

Help with Spanish homework

If you’re having trouble keeping up with your Spanish class, don’t worry – you’re not alone. Many students find Spanish to be a difficult language to learn. But don’t despair! There are a few things you can do to make studying Spanish easier and to help with your Spanish homework.

Get organized

The most important way to succeed in any class is to get organized. This means that you must actively keep track of your assignments, know when they’re due, and have a regular study schedule. Getting into a good organizational routine will make learning Spanish (or any other subject) much easier.

Ask for help

Make sure you understand the assignments. If you’re not sure what’s being asked of you, ask your teacher or a tutor for clarification. Don’t be afraid to ask your Spanish teacher for help. They’re there to help you succeed in the class, so don’t be afraid to take advantage of their knowledge! Once you know what’s expected, take some time to gather any materials you’ll need to complete the assignment. You should already have a Spanish to English dictionary and grammar book on hand, but what about other reference materials that are relevant to this particular assignment?

Set a schedule

Draw up a study schedule that fits in with your other commitments, and stick to it. Regularly spending some time on your Spanish homework will help you stay on top of things and keep your skills improving. Studying consistently will help you retain information better than if you try to cram everything in at the last minute. If you ever get stuck on a particular problem or don’t understand something, don’t be afraid to ask for help. There are plenty of resources available, both online and offline, that can give you the assistance you need.

Find a tutor. Sometimes, one-on-one help is the best way to help you learn Spanish. If you’re really struggling with Spanish, consider finding a tutor who can help you outside of class. There are many online tutoring services available, or you can ask your teacher for recommendations. With a little extra help, you’ll be surprised at how much better you’ll do in your Spanish class!

Study buddies

A cheaper alternative to a tutor is a study buddy who is also taking the class. This way, you can help each other out when you’re stuck on a Spanish concept. Another option is to join a study group. This can be a great way to meet other students who are also taking Spanish and to get some extra practice and support. Additionally, there are often forums where you can ask questions and get help from other Spanish learners. You might not know them, but there are thousands of other people going through exactly the same difficulties as you and you can pick their brains for tips and helpful links. Maybe they’re studying exactly the same course materials.

Intercambios

A pro-tip (which helped me a lot) is to find an intercambio . That link explains all the ways in which they can help you, but essentially they are a native Spanish speaker who wants to improve their English, and you spend time talking in the two languages to give each other practice.

Finally, and obviously, make sure you attend all of your classes and take good notes. It’s important to participate in class and do all of your Spanish homework assignments. The more you practice, the better you will be at speaking Spanish.

FAQs about bossing your Spanish homework

How can i make studying spanish easier and improve my performance in the class.

Getting organized is key. Keep track of assignments, know their due dates, and establish a regular study schedule. This will make learning Spanish more manageable and efficient.

What should I do if I don’t understand a Spanish assignment or concept?

Don’t hesitate to ask for help. Consult your teacher or a tutor for clarification on the assignments or any doubts you may have. Utilize reference materials like Spanish-English dictionaries and grammar books to aid your understanding.

Are there additional resources to enhance my Spanish learning beyond the classroom?

Yes, there are various options. Consider finding a tutor for one-on-one assistance outside of class. Alternatively, you can team up with a study buddy from your class or join a study group for extra practice and support. Another effective option is engaging in intercambios, where you converse with a native Spanish speaker to practice both languages.

How To Ask for Help in Spanish

Knowing how to ask for help in Spanish is a game-changer. Armed with this knowledge, you can travel to Spanish-speaking countries and ask for assistance when you need it.

Read this article to learn what to say when you need to ask for help in Spanish. I’ll explain some typical formal and informal expressions and throw in slang phrases to surprise your Spanish-speaking friends. You’ll also learn how to conjugate the Spanish verb for “to help”!

Déjame ayudarte hoy. Let me help you today.

‘To Help’ in Spanish

How do you translate “to help” from English to Spanish? Ayudar is the Spanish verb that means “to help.”

Ayudar is a regular -ar verb. Let’s see its conjugation in three tenses: present simple, past simple, and future simple.

ayudar – present simple conjugation chart

Juan ayuda a su madre. Juan helps his mother.

Nosotras ayudamos a las personas de escasos recursos. We help the ones in need.

“To help” in Spanish past tense also follows a regular pattern:

ayudar – preterite conjugation chart

No me ayudaste. You didn’t help me.

Me ayudaron mis amigos. My friends helped me.

ayudar – future simple conjugation chart

¿Me ayudarás? Will you help me?

Te ayudaremos. We will help you.

Another important conjugation to learn to ask for help in Spanish is the imperative form. It’s necessary as you’ll need to be able to distinguish between singular informal ( tú – you) and formal form ( usted – you) and the plural form.

ayudar – imperative conjugation chart

Anyway, in all the expressions I’ll show you today to ask for help in Spanish, I will mention all three forms.

15 Phrases To Ask For Help in Spanish

Let’s learn 15 ways to ask for help in Spanish. Most of them use the verb ayudar. Some show you how to ask for help in Spanish with other verbs, and some are idiomatic expressions.

1. Ayúdame

The simplest way to ask for help in Spanish is to add the personal pronoun in its indirect object form me to the ayudar verb. It simply translates to: help me.

– Singular Informal:

Ayúdame, Ana. Help me, Ana.

– Singular Formal:

Ayúdeme, Señor. Help me, Lord.

– Plural Formal and Informal:

Ayúdenme, chicos. Help me, guys.

2. ¿Me ayudas?

If you want to ask a direct question: can you help me? You need to put the indirect object in front of the verb.

¿Me ayudas, mamá? Can you help me, mom?

¿Me ayuda, maestra? Can you help me, teacher?

¿Me ayudan, amigos? Can you help me, guys?

3. ¿Me puedes ayudar?

It’s another form to use to ask for help in Spanish. This time with the verb poder (to be able to).

¿Me puedes ayudar? Can you help me?

¿Me puede ayudar, señora? Can you help me, ma’am?.

¿Me pueden ayudar, amigos? Can you help me, guys?

4. ¿Me podrías ayudar?

Using poder in its conditional form together with the verb ayudar lets you ask for help in Spanish in a more polite way. We can translate it to “could you help.”

¿Me podrías ayudar? Could you help me?

¿Me podría ayudar, señora? Could you help me, ma’am?.

¿Me podrían ayudar, amigos? Could you help me, guys.

5. ¿Te importaría ayudarme?

This is another polite way to ask for help in Spanish. It’s like saying in English: would you mind helping me.

¿Te importaría ayudarme, hermana? Would you mind helping me, sister?

¿Le importaría ayudarme, vecina? Would you mind helping me, neighbor?

¿Les importaría ayudarnos, señores? Would you gentlemen mind helping us?

6. Necesito ayuda

This expression translates into “I need help.”

Necesito ayuda en matemáticas. I need help in math.

Necesito ayuda para mover esto. I need help moving this.

This is a great expression to ask for help when you have no time for formalities. It’s just to shout “help!”.

¡Ayuda! ¡Me están atacando! Help! I’m being attacked!

8. ¡Auxilio!

Like the previous expression, this means “help!”.

¡Auxilio! ¡Hay un ladrón aquí! Help! There’s a thief here!

9. ¡Socorro!

And one more, to ask for help in Spanish in a quick way.

¡Socorro! ¡Hay un hombre en el agua! Help! There’s a man in the water!

10. Echar una mano

This is an idiomatic expression that means ayudar, “to lend a hand.”

¿Me puedes echar una mano con la tarea? Can you give me a hand with my homework?

¿Me pueden echar una mano con la declaración de impuestos? Can you give me a hand with my tax return?

11. Echar un cable

This idiomatic expression probably refers to a “cable” that sailors throw from the boat to help a drowning person.

¿Me echas un cable con mi hija? No me habla. Can you help me with my daughter? She won’t talk to me.

12. Echar un capote

This idiomatic expression also means to help someone in a difficult situation . Un capote (a cape) is what is thrown to distract the bull in a bullfight.

Gracias por echarme un capote antes.  Thank you for helping me out of a fix earlier.

13. ¿Me puede explicar?

If you need to ask for help in Spanish to understand something, like a new word, or expression, you can ask:

¿Me puedes explicar? Can you explain it to me?

Or in a formal way:

¿Me puede explicar el significado? Can you explain the meaning?

14. ¿Me lo puedes aclarar?

You can also ask for help in Spanish if you need somebody to clarify something for you.

¿Me lo puedes aclarar? Can you clarify this?

15. ¿Cómo se…?

To ask for help in Spanish, you can also ask for instruction, how to do something.

¿Cómo se escribe? How do you write it?

¿Cómo se dice? How do you say it?

¿Cómo se come esto? How do you eat this?

¿Cómo se llega al centro? How do you get downtown?

Essential Chunks and Phrases to Ask for HELP in Spanish in ANY Situation

Essential Phrases to Ask for HELP in Spanish in ANY Situation [SPANISH LESSON 24]

Welcome to Spring Spanish! In this article, te voy a enseñar cómo pedir ayuda en español (I am going to teach you how to ask for help in Spanish). Entonces, ¿me ayudas? (So, can you help me?) You will learn some of the most useful chunks que te ayudarán (that will help you) to ask for help in any situation!

1. Useful phrases to ask for help in Spanish

¡ayúdame a ayudarte.

This literally means “HELP ME TO HELP YOU”

Disculpe, ¿podría ayudarme? or Disculpa, ¿podrías ayudarme? (Excuse me, could you help me?)

We use Disculpe in formal situations, when we use usted , while in informal situations, we use  Disculpa , when we use tú .

If you are in doubt about when to use Usted or Tú , then check out the video that Paulisima, another Spring Spanish teacher, made to teach you the difference.

Necesito ayuda, por favor . (I need help, please.)

This phrase is usually accompanied by a preposition, like para (to).

Necesito ayuda para … (I need help to…)

  • … encontrar (to find something), e.g. un hotel (a hotel), el aeropuerto (the airport), un taxi (a taxi), una tienda (a store), un parque (a park), la estación de tren (the train station), la estación de policía (the police station) .
  • … marcar un número telefónico internacional (to dial an international phone number)
  • … enamorar a un chico (to make a boy fall for me). —And once you are in love, then check Cory’s video about the Language of love and seduce him or her in Spanish 🤭

¿Puede(s) o podría(s)? (Can you? or Could you?)

This question will be used with complementary verbs such as:

  • ¿Puedes pasarme la pluma? (Can you give me the pen?)
  • ¿Podrías despertarme mañana? (Could you wake me up tomorrow?)
  • ¿Puede ayudarme con mi tarea? (Can you help me with my homework?)
  • ¿Podría manejar más lento? (Could you drive more slowly?) — Please use this one when you are on a taxi in Mexico City. It would be really useful!

¿Me ayudas? (Could you help me?) or ¡Ayúdame, por favor ! (Help me, please!)

  • ¿Me ayudas a hacer el desayuno? (Can you help me to make breakfast?)
  • Ayúdame a cargar esto, por favor. (Help me to carry this, please.)

¿Te importaría? (Would you mind?)

  • ¿Te importaría traerme una botella con agua? (Would you mind bringing me a water bottle?)
  • ¿Te importaría llamar a tu mamá? (Would you mind calling your mother?)
  • ¿Te importaría llevarme al aeropuerto? (Would you mind driving me to the airport?)

¿Me echas una mano? (Can you give me a hand?)

  • ¿Me echas una mano con las bolsas? (Can you give me a hand with the bags?)

¿Puedo pedirte un favor? (Can I ask you for a favor?) or ¿Me podrías hacer un favor? (Could you do me a favor?)

By the way, in Mexico we love sarcasm, so Mexican moms will use a typical phrase that sounds similar to this one, but without the question marks:

  • ¿Me podrías hacer EL favor de recoger tu cuarto? (Could you do me THE favor of picking up your bedroom?)

So, in this case, she is not asking, she is demanding you to do it.

2. Bonus phrases to ask for help in Spanish in emergency situations

Well guys, now you have lots of chunks to use on your next trip or to impress your Spanish speaker friends. However, I have some bonus phrases if you ever find yourself in an undesirable situation (I hope you don’t), but just in case then please bear in mind the following phrases:

  • You are getting robbed or need someone to help: ¡Auxilio! Socorro! Ayúdenme!
  • You need to call the ER: ¿Podrías llamar al 911, por favor?
  • You need an ambulance: ¿Puedes pedir una ambulancia?
  • You need a pharmacy: Necesito ayuda para encontrar una farmacia .
  • You need to go to the police station: ¿Te importaría llevarme a la estación de policía?

And if you ever need help to ask where to find something, you could use any of these:

  • ¿Dónde está _______? (when asking for specific places) or ¿Dónde hay _______? (when asking for any place)
  • ¿Dónde está el hotel “Las Maravillas” / la embajada Americana (the US Embassy) / la estación de policía (the police station)?
  • ¿Dónde hay un hotel (a hotel) / una farmacia (a drug store) / un hospital (a hospital) ?

Can’t Find Eclipse Glasses? Here’s What to Do.

You can watch a projection of the eclipse using some common household items.

Two people kneel near an open cardboard box that they’ve fashioned into a projector for viewing an eclipse.

Follow our live updates on the total solar eclipse .

Reliable paper-framed glasses are by far the most popular option for safely watching the total solar eclipse on Monday. But they’ve gotten more difficult to find in some places ahead of the event.

If you’ve checked everywhere — your local planetarium, public library and even online — fear not: There is still a way to watch the eclipse safely, using items around the house. Here are a few options.

Use your hands

Palms up, position one hand over the other at a 90-degree angle. Open your fingers slightly in a waffle pattern, and allow sunlight to stream through the spaces onto the ground, or another surface. During the eclipse, you will see a projection of the moon obscuring the surface of the sun.

This method works with anything with holes, such as a straw hat, a strainer, a cheese grater or even a perforated spoon. You will also notice this effect when light from the partially eclipsed sun streams through leaves on a tree.

Set up a cardstock screen

For this option, you need a couple of white index cards or two sheets of cardstock paper. First, punch a small hole in the middle of one of the cards using a thumbtack or a pin.

Then, facing away from the sun, allow light to stream through this pinhole. Position the second card underneath to function as a screen. Adjust the spacing between the two cards to make the projection of the sun larger or smaller.

Make a box projector

If you’re up for a bit of crafting, you can make a more sophisticated pinhole projector . Start with a cardboard box — empty cereal boxes are often used, but you can use a larger box, too. You’ll also need scissors, white paper, tape, aluminum foil and a pin or thumbtack.

Cut the piece of paper to fit the inside bottom of the cardboard box to act as a screen. Use tape to hold it in place.

On the top of the box, cut two rectangular holes on either side. (The middle should be left intact — you can use tape to secure this if needed.)

Tape a piece of aluminum foil over one of the rectangular cutouts. Punch a tiny hole in the middle of the foil with the tack or pin. The other cutout will serve as a view hole.

With your back to the sun, position the foil side of the box over your shoulder, letting light stream through the pinhole. An image of the sun will project onto the screen at the bottom of the box, which you can see through the view hole. A bigger box will create a bigger image.

Enjoy the show through any of these makeshift pinholes. And remember, during totality, you can view the sun directly with your naked eye. But you should stop looking at the sun as soon as it reappears.
