The 2024 Met Gala is currently taking place at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, and this year's theme is "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion."

While the dress code is "The Garden of Time," Doja Cat, whose real name is Amala Raina Zandile Dlamini, stepped out in nothing but a bath towel.

The 'Paint The Town Red' artist certainly stood out at this year's Met Gala as she bared it all in a white towel, and fans were not impressed.

"Doja, I know this is supposed to be funny, but it's lame," one user wrote on X , the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

"This ain’t on theme," another pointed out.

"She forgot to wear her dress after bathing," a third said .

One X user called her outfit an "epic fail." "Doja Cat should’ve sat this one out and stayed home! An epic fail," they wrote .

In addition to her bath towel, her makeup was made to look like she had been crying or was fresh out of the shower as it streamed down her face.

"She never understood the assignment," one X user said .

"She wants to be off-theme so bad," another said , along with a skull emoji.

"I can’t defend her on this. She’s given me NO CHOICE," one fan said .

The 28-year-old rapper made headlines earlier when she was spotted shopping for diamonds in a white bedsheet and black Christian Louboutin heels.

At first glance, it appears she has a bedsheet draped around her, but Entertainment Tonight reports that it is actually a dress designed by the fashion label Vetements.

“What in the Bed Bath and Beyond is going on here?” one of her fans commented on her Instagram post.

“I know a hotel bed sheet when I see one,” another joked.

A third said, "When you’re asleep but have to go to the jewelry store before is [sic] closes.”

Other Celebrities Stun Fans At 2024 Met Gala

While Doja Cat showed up in a towel, other celebrities played to the theme, including Zendaya, who wore a custom-made Maison Margiela John Galliano dress, adorned with hand-painted metallic crinkles in shades of green, purple and blue.

Met Gala co-chair Jennifer Lopez opted for a custom Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown, which featured over 2 million silver foil beads and required over 800 hours of hand embroidery.

Plus, Supermodel Ashley Graham stepped out in a fitted Ludovic de Saint Sernin gown, featuring a black corset and metal and Swarovski crystals. According to the model , each piece of metal and crystal was hand-placed, and the gown took 500 hours to make.

Social media users seem to agree that Doja Cat was a stand-out celebrity at the 2024 Met Gala! The ‘Paint The Town Red’ artist went viral for her towel and wet t-shirt looks on Monday (May 6). During a green carpet interview, Doja explained the message and method behind pulling off her wet ‘fit!

The secret behind doja cat’s met gala look.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight , Doja agreed that expecting the unexpected when it comes to her is best. Those are the vibes she gave with her pre-carpet and carpet looks for the Met.

Before heading to the gala, Doja walked out of The Mark Hotel wearing the designer version of a look we all rock at home. Cat wore a white towel wrapped around her body and on her head. She was accompanied by the founder of fashion blog Style Not Com, Beka Gvishiani, per Getty Images.

For context, this year’s theme was “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” and the official dress code was “The Garden of Time.” The expected looks were floral and botanical, and because the singer-rapper anticipated that, she went a slightly different route.

Styled by Brett Alan Nelson, the ‘Streets’ artist wore a Vetements cotton dress. Though it was oversized, the t-shirt address highlighted her curves with its wet, molded look. She kept her accessories minimal, opting for diamond stud earrings and bold make-up. In addition to a smoky eye, Cat had faux, light black tears streaming down her face.

“I know that people are going to do flowers, but my flower of choice is the most used flower, cotton,” Doja told Entertainment Tonight. “And so I wanted to do a white t-shirt. Also, because a white t-shirt is timeless and it felt very poetic to choose this.”

Doja added that she doesn’t like to blend in, and she knew this wet t-shirt look would help her stand out.

“I knew it wasn’t going to blend in too much, and I don’t really like to blend in, so we went with this.” 

As for how the look was achieved, Doja Cat revealed that the secret was water and hair gel.

“I’m actually wet right now, this is water,” she said. “I’m not supposed to give the secret, but it’s hair gel. It’s all hair gel, and it’s all smooth throughout the whole thing.”

The rapper added that she was “committed” to her look, meaning that she had no plans to change her ‘fit once inside the exhibition. In her words, she was “performing,” and last night was “a show” to her.

Doja Also Slayed At The Met After Party

Ms. Amala also played no games with her ‘fit for the Met Gala after-party. She pulled up to the 10th annual ‘The After’ at Casa Cipriani wearing a sheer, nude two-piece consisting of leggings and a long-sleeved crop top. Like her t-shirt dress, she had her bare breasts on display and nude underwear with the leggings. Once again, she kept the jewelry minimal.

Leading up to the Met, she also made headlines for her saran wrap fashion, including a tube top and mini skirt. She strutted New York hand-in-hand with creative director Guram Gvasalia.

The sad, the bad, and the 'bless their hearts'..

The Met Gala, often regarded as fashion's most prestigious event, is a yearly spectacle where celebrities and designers showcase their sartorial prowess on the iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art's steps. However, unsurprisingly, not every outfit hits the mark, and those of us at home in our pajamas must critique. 

This year's Met Gala, themed 'The Garden of Time', also marked the opening of the Costume Institute's Spring exhibition titled “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”. It's arguably the best theme since the 2018 Heavenly Bodies. 

However, amid the glitz and glamour, there were some celebrities who missed the mark, failing to capture the whimsical essence of the event or unfortunately, stumbling into fashion faux pas territory. Let's take a closer look at which stars failed to shine on fashion's grandest stage.

I'm afraid there were some crumbs left behind. The dress itself was stunning, cinched so tight that it put those pregnancy rumours to rest. However, when it came to the theme, we didn't quite see it. Jenner, much like Kim, stuck to the same silhouettes, cuts, makeup, and nearly the same hairstyle as always. There was hardly any risk taken.

I couldn't help but eagerly await the moment Kim Kardashian would shed the sweater (it never materialised). With each Met Gala appearance, her signature corset and blonde hair seem to be a recurring theme. At this juncture, it's become somewhat…. predictable. Moreover, her manner of holding the sweater suggested a potential mishap with the dress that she's attempting to conceal, that sweater simply NEVER budged.

Thankfully, Kendall understood the assignment (for once).

I wouldn't exactly call this on-theme either. It seemed like Doja took the "Sleeping Beauty" title quite literally. We witnessed her stepping out in a thong with a bedsheet, then a towel, and finally an oversized white tee with mascara smudged down her face. Honestly, we've all had those moments of sleeping in similar attire, whether we admit it or not. I'm not saying I'm a fan (definitely not), but I think I understand the concept behind it. Regardless, it missed the mark.

Leave it to Cardi B to pull off a look that's undeniably extra. However, her choice ended up resembling more of a Goth Marge Simpson, which wasn't quite what we were expecting. While the dress had volume, the use of black threw me off and she wasn't alone in this. Surprisingly, black seemed to dominate the colour scheme, despite gardens not typically being associated with such hues. Nonetheless, at least her makeup was flawlessly done.

Lizzo's attire stood out as probably our least favourite look this year. She donned a sculpted brown flower-petaled dress paired with an unusual headpiece. While the theme was evident, it somehow didn't quite click. The colours appeared dull and off-putting, and perhaps there could have been potential without the distracting headpiece, which resembled a fish tail and was hard to ignore.

Not every outfit can be a masterpiece, but those who stumble make way for those who shine. Despite some celebrities missing the mark at the Met Gala 2024, their missteps highlight the brilliance of those who flawlessly captured the theme, reminding us that creativity thrives amid both success and imperfection. 

Well, at least it gave us something to talk about until next year's fashion fiasco!

Some viewers of the 2024 Met Gala red carpet think the influencers are outdoing their celebrity counterparts when it comes to fashion. Other viewers don’t think they belong in the same event.

The theme for this year’s gala is “Garden of Time,” which was expected to elicit gothic and floral patterns.

X user @CweenCarolyn shared a TikTok from influencer Hayley Baylee showing off an elaborate Met Gala look, along with the following caption: “Now why are the influencers outdoing celebrities … #MetGala #MetGala2024.”

In a follow-up post , she clarified, “NVM YALL THEY HAD TO LET THE BAD FITS GO IN FIRST … WERE SO BACK!!!”

Not everyone agreed that Baylee’s look is superior. One user employed a Meryl Streep GIF from The Devil Wears Prada . “define ‘outdo,’” they wrote.

Another user shared the look of stylist and model Wisdom Kaye . “You would think the celebrities would do better, but all the influencers ate them up. they understood the assignment. #metgala,” they wrote.

One user said , “My heart can’t take influencers outdoing celebrities at the #MetGala of all places I’m sorry.”

People are also sharing photos of 22-year-old YouTuber Emma Chamberlain, who wore a Jean Paul Gaultier custom gown. “To me, it sort of feels like this unveiling of me as an adult in fashion in a way,” Chamberlain told Vogue .

Some users expressed irritation that influencers are invited in the first place. “I hope Anna Wintour knows she ruined the met gala forever. Infesting the place with influencers and b listers made the real celebrities scurry away,” wrote one user.

Another user went so far as to employ a Taylor Swift meme for the occasion. “Influencers should not be invited to the met gala,” they wrote.

Rapper Doja Cat raised a few eyebrows for her style choice of a bath towel. One user even suggested she should “be banned from the #metgala if this is the final look…” Another user replied, “It’s NOT lmao she’s trolling she’ll definitely change.”

A-List celebrities have arrived at the 2024 Met Gala, but Doja Cat is someone who is standing out thanks to her wardrobe choice.

The 2024 Met Gala is currently taking place at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, and this year’s theme is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”

While the dress code is “The Garden of Time,” Doja Cat, whose real name is Amala Raina Zandile Dlamini, stepped out in nothing but a bath towel.

Doja Cat Shocks The World At 2024 Met Gala

The ‘Paint The Town Red’ artist certainly stood out at this year’s Met Gala as she bared it all in a white towel, and fans were not impressed.

“Doja, I know this is supposed to be funny, but it’s lame,” one user wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

“This ain’t on theme,” another pointed out.

“She forgot to wear her dress after bathing,” a third said.

One X user called her outfit an “epic fail.” “Doja Cat should’ve sat this one out and stayed home! An epic fail,” they wrote.

Doja Cat ‘Never Understood The Assignment’

In addition to her bath towel, her makeup was made to look like she had been crying or was fresh out of the shower as it streamed down her face.

“She never understood the assignment,” one X user said.

“She wants to be off-theme so bad,” another said, along with a skull emoji.

“I can’t defend her on this. She’s given me NO CHOICE,” one fan said.

Doja Cat’s Pre-Met Gala Look

The 28-year-old rapper made headlines earlier when she was spotted shopping for diamonds in a white bedsheet and black Christian Louboutin heels.

At first glance, it appears she has a bedsheet draped around her, but Entertainment Tonight reports that it is actually a dress designed by the fashion label Vetements.

“What in the Bed Bath and Beyond is going on here?” one of her fans commented on her Instagram post.

“I know a hotel bed sheet when I see one,” another joked.

A third said, “When you’re asleep but have to go to the jewelry store before is [sic] closes.”

Other Celebrities Stun Fans At 2024 Met Gala

While Doja Cat showed up in a towel, other celebrities played to the theme, including Zendaya, who wore a custom-made Maison Margiela John Galliano dress, adorned with hand-painted metallic crinkles in shades of green, purple and blue.

Met Gala co-chair Jennifer Lopez opted for a custom Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown, which featured over 2 million silver foil beads and required over 800 hours of hand embroidery.

Plus, Supermodel Ashley Graham stepped out in a fitted Ludovic de Saint Sernin gown, featuring a black corset and metal and Swarovski crystals. According to the model, each piece of metal and crystal was hand-placed, and the gown took 500 hours to make.

The Met Gala is considered fashion’s biggest night as the annual fundraising event and benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City.

Each year, the Gala has a specific theme that attendees are expected to follow in their attire. This year’s theme is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” and the dress code is “The Garden of Time.”

“Think melancholic florals (as moody florals aren’t moody enough),” Vogue previously reported.

Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth are the co-chairs of this year’s Met Gala. Co-chairs are responsible for promoting fashion’s biggest night. Zendaya wore an Emanuel Ungaro gown, while Jennifer Lopez wore a custom Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown. Rapper Bad Bunny arrived in a black Maison Margiela outfit as Chris Hemsworth opted for an off-white Tom Ford suit.

The much anticipated 2024 Met Gala, ahem, the 2024 Costume Institute Benefit went down on Monday, May 6 and per usual the red carpet was the real show. Plenty of Hip-Hop heads, and the adjacent, were in the building, with both the extremes of fire fits and attire choices that will make you question the true intentions of their stylist.

The 2024 Met Gala’s theme was “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” along with a dress code that entailed “The Garden of Time,” which is inspired by a short story by English novelist JG Ballard.

That’s all good, but we’re just here to judge the fits. Check out some of the best and worst dressed attendees—including Cardi B, Bad Bunny, Queen Latifah, Doja Cat and more—at the 2024 Met Gala in the gallery.

This theme aimed to honor the passage of time on historical pieces and their convergence with new technologies, as well as their relationship with nature.

The official dress code was “The Garden of Time,” inspired by a short story written in 1962 by British author J. G. Ballard, set in a garden full of translucent flowers that manipulate time.

What does it mean to be among the worst dressed at the 2024 Met Gala?

The Met Gala is known for being an event where fashion is taken to the extreme and creativity and originality are valued.

Therefore, what might be considered “worst dressed” in this context would be an outfit that does not adhere to the theme of the gala, lacks ingenuity, or simply isn’t aesthetically pleasing.
