The best way to start a Teacher cover letter is by directly addressing the hiring manager or principal, if their name is known. Then, introduce yourself and state the teaching position you're applying for. Immediately follow this with a compelling reason why you're interested in the role and the school. This could be something unique about the school's approach to education that aligns with your teaching philosophy. This not only shows that you've done your research, but also that you're genuinely interested in the school and the role. Remember, the opening of your cover letter sets the tone for the rest of the letter, so make it engaging and tailored to the position.

Teachers should end a cover letter by summarizing their interest in the position and expressing their eagerness to contribute to the school or institution. They should reiterate their key qualifications and how they align with the job requirements. A polite and professional closing statement such as "Thank you for considering my application" or "I look forward to the possibility of contributing to your team" is appropriate. It's also important to include contact information for easy follow-up. Lastly, they should sign off with a professional closing like "Sincerely" or "Best regards," followed by their full name. This ending reaffirms their interest, highlights their suitability, and shows appreciation for the reader's time, which leaves a positive impression.

A teacher's cover letter should ideally be about one page in length. This is generally the standard for most professions, including teaching. The goal is to succinctly present your qualifications, passion for teaching, and how you can contribute to the school or institution. A one-page cover letter allows you to provide a detailed yet concise overview of your relevant experiences and skills without overwhelming the reader. Remember, hiring managers often have many applications to go through, so it's important to make your points clearly and efficiently.

Writing a cover letter with no experience as a teacher can seem daunting, but it's important to remember that everyone starts somewhere. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to write a compelling cover letter: 1. Start with a Professional Greeting: Address the hiring manager by their name if it's available. If not, use a general but professional greeting like "Dear Hiring Manager." 2. Introduction: Begin by stating the position you're applying for. Mention where you saw the job posting and express your interest in the position. 3. Highlight Relevant Skills: Even if you don't have direct teaching experience, you likely have skills that are relevant to the job. Perhaps you've volunteered with children, tutored peers in college, or have experience in a related field like counseling. Highlight these experiences and explain how they've prepared you for a teaching role. 4. Showcase Your Education: If you're a recent graduate, emphasize your education. Discuss relevant coursework, student teaching experiences, and educational philosophies you've studied that you plan to incorporate into your teaching. 5. Show Enthusiasm for the School: Do some research about the school you're applying to and mention something specific that impresses you or aligns with your own teaching philosophy. This shows that you're not just looking for any job, but that you're interested in this specific position. 6. Conclude with a Call to Action: In your closing paragraph, express your eagerness to further discuss your qualifications in an interview. Thank the hiring manager for considering your application. 7. Professional Closing: End the letter with a professional closing like "Sincerely" or "Best Regards," followed by your full name. Remember to keep your cover letter concise and to the point, ideally no longer than one page. Proofread carefully for any grammar or spelling errors. Your cover letter is your first chance to make a good impression, so make it count!

Sample Application Letter for Teacher Without Experience

Ms. Roselyn Mae S. Lanuzo, MaIS Principal St. Matthew’s College

Dear Ma’am;

Please consider this letter as my intent to apply for a teaching position in your established institution. I was told by a friend that you are looking for Science teachers for the opening of school year 2019-2020. Given my qualifications, I believe that I am qualified to teach in your school.

I graduated with honors last March 2017 from Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila with bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education major in Science and passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers in September 2017.

To continue to develop myself academically, I started pursuing my graduate degree in November 2017 enrolling in the Graduate School of Polytechnic University of the Philippines. My degree of concentration is Master of Arts in Educational Management major in Science.

Though I haven’t had a teaching experience yet, I believe that I am ready to take the responsibilities of a teacher as I have already equipped myself with skills and learnings which I have gained through the series of lectures I attended in the graduate school and in the different seminars and trainings I attended in the past.

I chose to submit my application in your institution as my colleagues told me that you provide a very good opportunity to your teachers to hone their skills and to improve themselves by participating in various professional development workshops and trainings in and out of the school. I also did a little research about the schools here in Marikina and your school appears to be the best in most aspects. I believe choosing what is best can bring out the best in people like me who want to improve continuously.

I am hoping that you will give me an opportunity to have my first teaching experience in your reputed school. Thank you for considering my application. I am waiting for your positive response.

I passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers in September 2017 right after graduating from college in March. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education major in English from La Consolacion College Manila .

In able to continue my professional growth, I just enrolled started to a graduate degree in November 2018 enrolling in the Graduate School of Polytechnic University of the Philippines. My degree of concentration is Master of Arts in Educational Management major in English.

My only experience in teaching was my internship in Jose P. Laurel National High School in Quezon City. I was able to gain more knowledge and was able to broaden my skills in teaching in the said institution. Though I don’t have years of teaching experience yet, I believe that I am ready to take the responsibilities of a teacher because we have been extensively trained during college through the series of lectures and seminars I attended.

I decided to send my application in your school after some colleagues told me that you give a bunch of opportunities to your teachers and that you are very supportive of their professional endeavors by providing professional development workshops and training in and out of the school. I also did a little research about the schools here in Marikina, and your school appears to be the best in most aspects. I believe choosing what is best can bring out the best in people like me who want to improve continuously.

I am hoping that you will give me an opportunity to have my first teaching experience in your reputed school.

Thank you for considering my application. I am waiting for your positive response.

First Choice Letters And Personal Letters of Recommendation

The competition for places at some private schools is intense. When a school receives hundreds of applications for a hundred available seats, that indicates a very competitive admissions situation. If your child is applying to a competitive school, what do you do to ensure success? The school admissions staff isn't going to be much help. Indeed more often than note, it will be sphinx-like about letting you know whether your kid stands a chance or not. Money is not an issue. You can afford the fees and all the extras. This school would be ideal for your daughter because you know that the school does an excellent job of getting its graduates into the best colleges and universities. You and your daughter were both impressed with the facilities, programs and the general feel of the campus when you visited. The admissions staff were professional but warm and friendly, as was everyone else you encountered during your visit.

This video from The Country Day School offers one of its graduate's experiences at the school.

This video offers a look at Jesuit High School in Sacramento.

The admissions staff meets to review the applicants who have passed muster on the first cut. Will a B in English be a deal-breaker? Not necessarily. If a member of the admissions staff feels that the child has potential, has the right attitude and truly wants to succeed, that will more than offset minor deficiencies. So, what's the real trick to getting into that highly competitive school? The answer is deceptively simple: offer everything they are looking for and more. How will you know what they are looking for? You won't. Unless you are the Admissions Director's spouse, at which point your child would be a shoo-in anyway.

Hire an educational consultant.

Hiring an educational consultant will also help you get your child into a highly competitive school. This is not a pitch for educational consultants. It is just common sense. Educational consultants know their schools. They make it their business to visit schools. They know the admissions staff. They know what the current climate is at each of the schools in their portfolio. I know this to be true from my own experience. Long before I began writing about private schools, we decided to send our daughters to boarding school. We thought that we were pretty savvy about the private school admissions process. After all, we thought that all there was to it was to identify a couple of schools we liked, visit them, and apply. It never occurred to us that schools might be competitive or that they might not think our daughters were a good fit. Our eldest daughter got into a good school, but she only had one acceptance out of the three schools to which she had applied. We left nothing to chance with our second daughter. We hired a consultant. The late Hugh Silk knew his schools. Long before email and the internet, he knew precisely who to call or write. And he did. This time, we had three schools out of three send us acceptance letters.

In this video, Ann Dolin offers professional advice to parents looking for a private school for their children.

Not using an educational consultant for such an important matter as getting your daughter into a good private school is rather like writing your own will. Of course, you can write your own will. But at some point, you will need to run it by your trusted legal team to make sure that you have it right. Same thing with choosing a school. Just like your will, there is a lot riding on getting your daughter into the right school. Her happiness is at stake. You certainly don't want a miserable child, do you?

Keep your decision and feelings to yourself.

So, when it comes to first choice letters, keep them to yourself. Express your interest in the school with sincerity. At the same time be sure to keep other options open. You are the customer. The school understands that. The admissions staff knows that you will compare schools. That is to be expected. The same thing applies to the personal letter of recommendation. If a good, well-connected friend chooses to write a personal letter of recommendation for your child, let her do so quietly on her own. The school will most likely be impressed more if you don't mention it.

In the end, expect your child's chances of getting into a highly competitive school to be a lot slimmer than if she applies to a less competitive school. Carefully review your reasons for wanting her to attend a highly competitive school. Ask yourself if she wouldn't receive an excellent education based on your requirements and her needs at a less competitive school. The answer to that question may surprise you.

UK election latest: Starmer hits out at 'mess' left by Tories - and warns 'tough decisions' to come

The new prime minister chaired his first cabinet meeting this morning after Labour's landslide election victory. Later on, in a sober speech before taking media questions, Sir Keir said "tough decisions" are to come - and that he would embark on a victory tour of the UK tomorrow.

Live reporting by Ollie Cooper

Not only have we got a new prime minister, but we'll be getting a new Conservative Party leader too.

Rishi Sunak stepped down this morning following his party's shattering defeat, setting in motion a battle to become the next leader.

So who could be in the running? Our political reporter Tim Baker  has been through some contenders…

Labour has selected a very predictable cabinet, Jeremy Corbyn has said.

Speaking to Sky News at today's pro-Palestinian march in London, the freshly re-elected Islington North MP dubbed Sir Keir Starmer's new top team "not very exciting".

You can see who's in the cabinet here ...

The former Labour leader also called on the prime minister to end British arms sales to Israel and back a ceasefire.

"I would be happy to meet him and give him the benefit of my advice," he said when asked if he would help Sir Keir.

"I'm delighted to see the end of the Tory government," he said, but adding that Labour should not ignore the drop in vote share despite the landslide victory.

"Much of that is probably to do with Gaza," he said, citing Labour difficulties in Muslim communities.

He also commented on the economy - saying growth alone is not enough to move Britain closer to financial equality.

"She cannot continue to accept Tory spending plans and Tory taxation," Mr Corbyn said of Rachel Reeves, the new chancellor.

By Adele Robinson , business correspondent

It's a gloomy and grey morning in Witney town centre.

This dismal July scene provides the perfect metaphor for Conservative sentiment here.

Witney, in Oxfordshire, has been a Tory stronghold for 102 years - and was also the constituency for former prime minister Lord Cameron - but it is now officially no longer a safe seat.

A "Liberal Democrats Winning Here" sign, visible from the roadside, is a nod to the town's newly elected MP.

Charlie Maynard took the seat from the Conservatives, winning 20,832 votes to Robert Courts' 16,493.

Finding someone who voted Conservative in the election, who wants to talk about it, isn't easy.

The first willing to chat is Mark Doig, standing outside the butchers, who describes the Tories as "in a bit of a mess".

"Too many prime ministers", he tells me. "Boris Johnson, Liz Truss - they all did their bit to put the nail in the coffin."

He also says he "might vote Lib Dem" next time.

He adds: "I think the Tories have really blown it, it's going to be difficult to get back."

Another Conservative voter said: "I liked Rishi Sunak - he's a gentleman of politics - but perhaps not tough enough."

It's something a few people have said here - that they like Mr Sunak, but he wasn't a leader.

Watch: General Election round-up

So where do the Conservatives go from here in Witney?

But there's clear disenchantment with the Conservatives in this town and the ballot box was ultimately their protest.

The next Tory leader will need to do something significant to bring back voters.

Even those who remained faithful this time around appear to be slipping away.

Sir Keir Starmer will make clear that there has been a shift in British politics as he embarks on a tour of all four nations of the UK.

The new prime minister will be meeting with the heads of devolved governments, beginning tomorrow in Scotland.

"There has been a mindset change in the way we do government," Sir Keir said ahead of his trip.

"We will do things differently, and together deliver the change that people have voted for.

"Working people in all four nations now have a government of service.’

He will be looking to discuss how the nations can work better together to deliver the change he outlined in his manifesto.

"People across the United Kingdom are bound by shared beliefs. Fundamental values of respect, service and community which define us as a great nation," he said.

"And that begins... with an immediate reset of my government's approach to working with the first and deputy first ministers because meaningful co-operation centred on respect will be key to delivering change across our United Kingdom."

The Tory election strategy was "idiotic" and forced voters into the arms of Labour, Suella Braverman has said in the wake of the worst defeat in Conservative history.

Writing an opinion piece for The Telegraph , the former home secretary said "we failed in office and deserved this result".

"Losing elections has consequences: I regret them, but too many Tories do not," she added.

"People didn't choose Labour, they rejected us."

She said the prime minister and the party employed an "idiotic strategy of intermittently and inconsistently making 'Tory right' noises - which disintegrated when set against our liberal Conservative record".

Ms Braverman is among the favourites to take over as the next Conservative leader, with the defeated Rishi Sunak set to depart, as soon as his successor is chosen.

She retained her seat in Fareham & Waterlooville, but Labour, the Liberal Democrats and Reform UK all made gains in vote share.

Moving to the future, Ms Braverman outlined three things the Tories must do before they can win again:

  • Restore trust
  • Restore credibility
  • Restore hope

"We’re not a racist country needing 'decolonisation' and DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion)and all the progressive rest of it," she said.

She concluded by noting Nigel Farage's entry to the Commons, saying he "can just say the right things", but "we have to do them".

By Dominic Waghorn , international affairs editor

A new beginning for Britain and suddenly we find ourselves in a world turning itself inside out, posing clear challenges to the incoming Labour government.

The swing to the left in the UK comes just as some of our closest partners appear to be veering in the opposite direction.

After the chaos of right-wing Conservative rule, Britain has embraced the opposite: a left-wing government with a huge majority and a future that looks relatively stable and calm, dare we say it, even quite dull.

You cannot say the same for our neighbours and allies. After years of mocking and deriding the British for losing our political marbles, are our friends overseas now dropping their own?

Read more from Waghorn here ...

David Lammy will head to Poland and and Sweden tomorrow, continuing a mini-European tour which began today in Germany.

The new foreign secretary replaced Lord Cameron when he was appointed to Sir Keir Starmer's cabinet yesterday.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "Hitting the ground running, the visit will set the tone for the new foreign policy agenda and the importance of the relationship between the UK and our European allies to tackle shared challenges and increase security.

"Amongst a range of topics, co-operation on NATO and Ukraine will be important areas of discussion."

Sir Keir Starmer has announced further additions to his cabinet.

The King has approved the following appointments...

  • Ellie Reeves as minister without portfolio
  • Dan Jarvis MBE a Home Office minister
  • Jim McMahon OBE as a levelling up minister
  • Matthew Pennycook as a levelling up minister
  • Douglas Alexander as a business and trade minister
  • Jacqui Smith as an education minister

Former home secretary Jacqui Smith will also be made a peer, Downing Street announced.

Ms Smith served in Gordon Brown's cabinet.

Sir Keir Starmer and Joe Biden's first phone conversation has been shared on the world leaders' respective Instagram accounts.

The US president shared his congratulations for the newly appointed prime minister, adding "what a hell of a victory".

A majority of people on the Sky News YouGov voters panel have expressed a cautious optimism about the new Labour government.

Half of the 46 constituencies represented by our panel changed party in the general election, with two-thirds of our voters backing a different party from their 2019 vote.

The panel has now delivered its verdict on the election result, which saw Labour win a landslide victory - ending 14 years of Tory rule.

There was some enthusiasm. One former Conservative voter told us: "I'm quite excited to look forward to what the future is going to bring and what this party is going to bring to the table."

But another described the result as "pretty depressing". They said: "I've never been a Labour voter, pretty sad... but I don't think they're going to do anything."

One former Labour supporter who backed the Greens said: "This has been a not-the-Tories and a pro-Reform vote, rather than a pro-Labour vote."
