Present Live: Engage your audience with Live Presentations

With Live Presentations in PowerPoint, audience members can see a presentation on their devices and read live subtitles in their preferred language while you speak. They can use "pinch to zoom" to see the slides more clearly on mobile devices, give feedback, send live reactions to the presenter, and navigate back to review previous slides.

Important:

To use Live Presentations, presenters must have a Microsoft 365 subscription. Audience members don't need a subscription to participate in Live Presentations.

Live Presentations is not supported for presenters in GCC, GCC-High, or DoD tenants.

Getting started

To get started with Live Presentations open your slide deck in PowerPoint for the web and go to the Slide Show tab.

Important:  Live Presentations is supported on Microsoft Edge version 80+, Google Chrome version 72+, Mozilla Firefox version 68+, or Opera version 60+ on Windows or Mac. Currently Safari is not supported for presenters, but works fine for audience members.

First, check your audience setting. Click the drop arrow next to Present Live to select who should be able to connect to this presentation.

Audience selection for Live Presentation

Only people in your organization  - This is the default option for presenters signed in with their work or school account. It limits access to people signed in with accounts in the same Microsoft 365 organization (work or school) the presenter is in.

Anyone  - If you're presenting to an audience that includes people who are not in your organization you'll need to select this one.

Next, select Present Live and your presentation will begin with a screen that shows a customized QR code. You can also start your Live presentation from the slideshow toolbar:

slideshow toolbar

Your audience can point their device cameras at the QR code, tap the link that appears over the QR code, and PowerPoint Live will load your presentation in their web browser. There's nothing for them to install.

The join screen of PowerPoint Live Presentations - showing the QR code and join URL.

Tip:  If they're having trouble using the QR code they can also just go to their browser and enter the short URL shown at the top of the presentation screen.

The audience can connect from any device has that has an Internet connection and a browser: iOS, Android, Windows, or Mac.

Important:  For audiences accessing Live Presentations on their mobile devices it requires at least iOS version 11, or Android version 8.

Once your audience has joined the presentation simply advance to your first slide as normal to start presenting.

Presentation subtitles

Once your audience has loaded the presentation they will see your spoken words transcribed on the screen in near real-time. This is great for audiences when the acoustics of the venue aren't good, or if you have audience members who have difficulty hearing.

If an audience member would like to have your words translated for them into a different language, they can tap the language indicator and select from any of the supported languages. Once they've selected their language your spoken words will be machine translated into that language, and shown to them on their device as subtitles.

Each audience member can select the language of their choice.

Reviewing previous slides

If an audience member wants to look back at one of your earlier slides that can do that using the slide control that appears on their screen just below the current slide. They can go all the way back to your first slide, but they can only go as far forward as the slide you're currently displaying, so you don't have to worry about them reading ahead in your deck.

Live feedback

If an audience member using PowerPoint Live wants to give you feedback as you go, they can tap the feedback button (which looks like a smiley face) towards the bottom right of their device screen.  There they can select from a handful of different feedback types, from "like" to "puzzled" and more. Their selection will briefly appear on the presentation screen.

Presentation evaluation

When you end the presentation audience members using PowerPoint Live will each get a short survey where they get to rate your slide design, speaker's skill, content, and interaction with audience on a scale of 1 to 5. They can add any other comments or feedback they might have and submit. This feedback is collected by Microsoft Forms where you can view the aggregated, anonymous, responses.

Important:  You can save the aggregated feedback email in your inbox, but the detailed audience feedback in Microsoft Forms isn’t kept indefinitely. If you want to keep the detailed feedback, go to the feedback form, select Open in Excel , and save the resulting Excel file.

Email summary

After the presentation you will get an email containing a summary of audience feedback responses, live reactions from the audience, and some recommendations on what to improve for the next time.

Presenting remotely?

You can still use PowerPoint Live Presentations when you present remotely! Here are a few tips for your that might help:

If you're presenting using Microsoft Teams and want to use Live Presentations you'll need to use screen sharing mode, rather than presentation sharing mode, to share your presentation. Otherwise you won't be able to start Live Presentations.

It will usually be easier for your audience to use a second device, like a smartphone or tablet, to join the Live Presentation. This allows their primary device to be dedicated to the presentation itself.

If an audience member has two (or more) screens on their device it can work to join the Live Presentation in a browser window on another screen, reserving the primary screen for the presentation.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between office 2021 (one-time purchase) and microsoft 365 (subscription).

Office 2021 is sold as a one-time purchase, which means you pay a single, up-front cost to get Office apps for one computer. One-time purchases are available for both PCs and Macs. However, there are no upgrade options, which means if you plan to upgrade to the next major release, you'll have to buy it at full price.

Microsoft 365 is a subscription that includes the most collaborative, up-to-date features in one seamless, integrated experience. Microsoft 365 includes the robust Office desktop apps that you’re familiar with, like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. You also get extra online storage and cloud-connected features that let you collaborate on files in real time. With a subscription, you'll always have the latest features, fixes, and security updates along with ongoing tech support at no extra cost. You can choose to pay for your subscription on a monthly or yearly basis, and the Microsoft 365 Family plan lets you share your subscription with your family for up to 6 people, and use your apps on multiple PCs, Macs, tablets, and phones.

How do I know if my PC or Mac can run Microsoft 365?

Will microsoft 365 be identical on a pc and on a mac, do i keep control of my documents with a microsoft 365 subscription, is internet access required for microsoft 365.

Internet access is required to install and activate all the latest releases of apps and services included in all Microsoft 365 subscription plans. Note that if you are an existing subscriber, you do not need to reinstall or purchase another subscription.

For Microsoft 365 plans, Internet access is also needed to manage your subscription account, for example to install Office apps on other PCs or to change billing options. Internet access is also required to access documents stored on OneDrive, unless you install the  OneDrive desktop app .

You should also connect to the Internet regularly to keep your version of Microsoft 365 up to date and to benefit from automatic upgrades. If you do not connect to the Internet at least every 31 days, your apps will go into reduced functionality mode, which means that you can view or print your documents but cannot edit the documents or create new ones. To reactivate your apps, simply reconnect to the Internet.

You do not need to be connected to the Internet to use the Office apps, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, because the apps are fully installed on your computer.

What is a Microsoft account and why do I need it for Microsoft 365?

Your Microsoft account is the combination of an email address and password that you use to sign in to services like OneDrive, Xbox LIVE, and Outlook.com. If you use any of these services, you already have a Microsoft account that you can use or you can create a new account.  Learn more about a Microsoft account .

As part of signing up for a trial or purchasing Microsoft 365, you will be prompted to sign in with a Microsoft account. You must be signed in with this account to install and manage your Microsoft 365 subscription, or to use some subscription benefits, including cloud storage.

How many people can use a Microsoft 365 subscription?

How do i share my subscription benefits with members of my family, if i’m not paying for a subscription, what do i get for free, what is microsoft defender, what is the difference between microsoft defender and windows security.

Microsoft Defender is a new cross-device app that helps people and families stay safer online. Microsoft Defender adds new features and a simplified, user interface. Microsoft Defender also brings valuable device protection to iOS, Android, Windows, and Mac, with malware protection, web protection, real-time security notifications, and security tips. 1,2 Microsoft Defender is available in the Apple, Google, and Microsoft app stores and requires a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription to use.

Windows Security, formerly known as Windows Defender Security Center, is built-in security on Windows PCs to protect your device and data. Windows Security is pre-installed and automatically enabled. Windows Security includes Microsoft Defender Antivirus software that protects your Windows device and data against viruses, ransomware, trojans, and other malware unless non-Microsoft Antivirus software is active.

Copilot plus PC main art

An on-demand recording of our May 20 event is available .

Today, at a special event on our new Microsoft campus, we introduced the world to a new category of Windows PCs designed for AI, Copilot+ PCs.

Copilot+ PCs are the fastest, most intelligent Windows PCs ever built. With powerful new silicon capable of an incredible 40+ TOPS (trillion operations per second), all – day battery life and access to the most advanced AI models, Copilot+ PCs will enable you to do things you can’t on any other PC. Easily find and remember what you have seen in your PC with Recall, generate and refine AI images in near real-time directly on the device using Cocreator, and bridge language barriers with Live Captions, translating audio from 40+ languages into English .

These experiences come to life on a set of thin, light and beautiful devices from Microsoft Surface and our OEM partners Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo and Samsung, with pre-orders beginning today and availability starting on June 18. Starting at $999, Copilot+ PCs offer incredible value.

This first wave of Copilot+ PCs is just the beginning. Over the past year, we have seen an incredible pace of innovation of AI in the cloud with Copilot allowing us to do things that we never dreamed possible. Now, we begin a new chapter with AI innovation on the device. We have completely reimagined the entirety of the PC – from silicon to the operating system, the application layer to the cloud – with AI at the center, marking the most significant change to the Windows platform in decades.

YouTube Video

The fastest, most secure Windows PCs ever built

We introduced an all-new system architecture to bring the power of the CPU, GPU, and now a new high performance Neural Processing Unit (NPU) together. Connected to and enhanced by the large language models (LLMs) running in our Azure Cloud in concert with small language models (SLMs), Copilot+ PCs can now achieve a level of performance never seen before. They are up to 20x more powerful [1] and up to 100x as efficient [2] for running AI workloads and deliver industry-leading AI acceleration. They outperform Apple’s MacBook Air 15” by up to 58% in sustained multithreaded performance [3] , all while delivering all-day battery life.  With incredible efficiency, Copilot+ PCs can deliver up to 22 hours of local video playback or 15 hours of web browsing on a single charge. [4] That is up to 20% more battery in local video playback than the MacBook Air 15”. [5]

Windows now has the best implementation of apps on the fastest chip, starting with Qualcomm. We now offer more native Arm64 experiences than ever before, including our fastest implementation of Microsoft 365 apps like Teams, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, OneDrive and OneNote. Chrome, Spotify, Zoom, WhatsApp, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, Blender, Affinity Suite, DaVinci Resolve and many more now run natively on Arm to give you great performance with additional apps, like Slack, releasing later this year. In fact, 87% of the total app minutes people spend in apps today have native Arm versions. [6] With a powerful new emulator, Prism, your apps run great, whether native or emulated.

Every Copilot+ PC comes secured out of the box. The Microsoft Pluton Security processor will be enabled by default on all Copilot+ PCs and we have introduced a number of new features, updates and defaults to Windows 11 that make it easy for users to stay secure. And, we’ve built in personalized privacy controls to help you protect what’s important to you. You can read more about how we are making Windows more secure here .

Entirely new, powerful AI experiences

Copilot+ PCs leverage powerful processors and multiple state-of-the-art AI models, including several of Microsoft’s world-class SLMs, to unlock a new set of experiences you can run locally, directly on the device. This removes previous limitations on things like latency, cost and even privacy to help you be more productive, creative and communicate more effectively.

Recall instantly

We set out to solve one of the most frustrating problems we encounter daily – finding something we know we have seen before on our PC. Today, we must remember what file folder it was stored in, what website it was on, or scroll through hundreds of emails trying to find it.

Now with Recall, you can access virtually what you have seen or done on your PC in a way that feels like having photographic memory. Copilot+ PCs organize information like we do – based on relationships and associations unique to each of our individual experiences. This helps you remember things you may have forgotten so you can find what you’re looking for quickly and intuitively by simply using the cues you remember. [7]

You can scroll across time to find the content you need in your timeline across any application, website, document, or more. Interact intuitively using snapshots with screenray to help you take the next step using suggested actions based on object recognition. And get back to where you were, whether to a specific email in Outlook or the right chat in Teams.

Recall leverages your personal semantic index, built and stored entirely on your device. Your snapshots are yours; they stay locally on your PC. You can delete individual snapshots, adjust and delete ranges of time in Settings, or pause at any point right from the icon in the System Tray on your Taskbar. You can also filter apps and websites from ever being saved. You are always in control with privacy you can trust.

Cocreate with AI-powered image creation and editing, built into Windows

Since the launch of Image Creator, almost 10 billion images have been generated, helping more people bring their ideas to life easily by using natural language to describe what they want to create. Yet, today’s cloud offerings may limit the number of images you can create, keep you waiting while the artwork processes or even present privacy concerns. By using the Neural Processing Units (NPUs) and powerful local small language models, we are bringing innovative new experiences to your favorite creative applications like Paint and Photos.

Combine your ink strokes with text prompts to generate new images in nearly real time with Cocreator. As you iterate, so does the artwork, helping you more easily refine, edit and evolve your ideas. Powerful diffusion-based algorithms optimize for the highest quality output over minimum steps to make it feel like you are creating alongside AI. Use the creativity slider to choose from a range of artwork from more literal to more expressive. Pocket-lint

Copilot: everything you need to know about microsoft's ai.

Microsoft's AI leverages the capabilities of GPT-4. It's available in Bing, Edge, Windows, and there's a Pro version. Here's what you need to know.

Quick Links

What is microsoft copilot, does microsoft copilot use chatgpt, how to access copilot on bing, how to use copilot in microsoft edge, what is microsoft 365 copilot, what is windows copilot, what is copilot pro, is microsoft copilot available to use now, key takeaways.

  • Microsoft rebranded its AI-powered assistants as Copilot AI and integrated them into various services like Bing, Edge, Microsoft 365, and Windows 11.
  • Microsoft Copilot is a renamed version of Bing Chat and offers an AI chatbot similar to ChatGPT, providing specialized assistance in searching, coding, and more.
  • Microsoft is rolling out Copilots to different apps and platforms, and aims to deliver better search, chat experiences, content generation, and assistance in its services.

If you could call 2023 a year of something connected with tech space, it would surely be the year of AI. Following the meteoric rise of ChatGPT and its various offshoots, all the tech giants started developing AI-based solutions for their services, and this year we've seen them implemented everywhere. Meta got its hand in the game and introduced AI into Facebook Messenger , Google came out with Bard, and various other tech companies utilized artificial intelligence to make their services better and more user-friendly.

One of the companies that went all-in on AI is Microsoft. However, it has a bit of a leg up. It's been working closely with OpenAI to create various artificial intelligence tools to help improve our lives. The company, after introducing a great Ai-powered productivity tool called Loop , is going much further now and integrating AI into its search engine, the Edge browser, Microsoft 365 and Windows 11 as well.

Some of the features that Microsoft unveiled during Microsoft Ignite are completely new, but some of them you might already know by a different name. We're here to help guide you through all the features on offer and what Microsoft's AI can do for you.

A new Microsoft Copilot AI key will ship on Windows 11 laptops now

The name Microsoft Copilot has been thrown around for some time now, but every time it seems to mean something a bit different. Let's just break it down and see what exactly hides behind this marketing slogan:

Copilot rebranding

First, there is the Copilot brand. Microsoft rebranded all its AI-powered companions as Copilot, adding specialized monikers to each of them. Therefore, a Copilot is an AI companion that is baked into Microsoft services and other apps, allowing you to use it as a helping hand when working or creating. There are already a bunch of these Copilots, and Microsoft wants to create more specialized versions for the most important apps in its own portfolio.

How Microsoft made Bing and Edge work like ChatGPT

As we said, Microsoft Copilot encompasses a range of specialized AI assistants, including what was originally known as Bing Chat or Bing AI. This is one of the oldest AI-powered assistants in Microsoft's array, offering functionalities akin to those of ChatGPT. It excels in tasks such as conducting specialized searches, formatting data, coding, and other advanced activities facilitated by AI companions.

In an effort to streamline its product offerings, Microsoft rebranded the AI chatbot to Copilot. This transition involved more than just a change of name. It introduced enhanced features, including support for the latest GPT-4 Turbo model. The upgrade aimed to improve the interaction quality with the chatbot, delivering responses that are not only more precise and lifelike but also more helpful to users.

Yes. In 2019, Microsoft started a multi-billion dollar investment in OpenAI . Shortly after, we started seeing OpenAI producing interesting things like the incredible image generation tool DALL-E 2 and the now popular ChatGPT .

The latter of these two is an intelligent AI-driven chat tool that's able to have human-like conversations, answer questions, suggest ideas and assist you with all sorts of different tasks. It is artificial intelligence that has been trained on a large language model and a large multimodal model. This means it's been trained on large datasets and with human interactions, but hasn't had access to search the web.

Things are moving fast though and OpenAI is constantly working to improve its toolset. Since ChatGPT 4 appeared, the AI has been making waves by doing all sorts of things including composing essays, writing code, suggesting business ideas. Even passing the bar .

In February 2023, Microsoft revealed it was using ChatGPT to power " the new Bing " integrating next-generation AI into Bing search.

With the power of AI, Microsoft Copilot is now more than just a search engine, because it's also a conversational tool and one that Microsoft is calling your "AI Copilot for the web." With these new tools, it is set to "deliver better search, more complete answers, a new chat experience and the ability to generate content."

Accessing what was formerly known as Bing Chat, now rebranded as Microsoft Copilot, is easy -- as the AI chatbot integrated into Bing:

  • Open your browser: Start by opening your preferred web browser on your computer or mobile device.
  • Navigate to Bing: Go to the Bing website by typing " www.bing.com " into the browser's address bar. Microsoft Copilot is integrated into Bing, allowing for seamless access.
  • Sign in (Optional): While not always necessary, signing in with your Microsoft Account can provide a personalized experience. Look for the "Sign in" option on the Bing homepage and log in if you prefer.
  • Access Copilot: On the Bing homepage, look for the Copilot icon or mention. Since Bing Chat has been rebranded to Microsoft Copilot, you might see references to "Copilot" instead of "Bing Chat." The interface for initiating a chat with Copilot may vary, but it's typically represented by a chat icon or a sidebar labeled "Copilot."
  • Start chatting: Once you've accessed Copilot, you can start interacting with the AI by typing in your queries or requests in the chat interface. Microsoft Copilot can assist with searches, provide information, generate content, ask for summaries, generate emails, receive coding help, and more. The tool is designed to facilitate a wide range of tasks.

In March 2023, Microsoft started integrating its AI-powered Bing search into Microsoft Edge . The company began rolling out stable versions of the browser with the Bing AI chatbot built right into the sidebar as standard.

Referred to as "Edge Copilot," "Bing chat," and "Discover," this tool now sees you being able to get answers directly from your browser with the power of your own AI assistant. Microsoft says that Edge Copilot can do things like summarizing web content, searching the web for answers and even creating content for you.

Microsoft notes that Bing AI isn't perfect (yet) and won't always be 100% factual:

"Bing aims to base all its responses on reliable sources, but AI can make mistakes, and third-party content on the internet may not always be accurate or reliable. Bing will sometimes misrepresent the information it finds, and you may see responses that sound convincing but are incomplete, inaccurate or inappropriate. Use your own judgment and double-check the facts before making decisions or taking action based on Bing’s responses."

To use Microsoft Copilot in Microsoft Edge, follow these steps:

  • Open Microsoft Edge: Launch the Edge browser on your device.
  • Navigate to the sidebar: Look for the sidebar on the Edge browser, which is typically located on the right side of the window.
  • Access Copilot: In the sidebar, find and click on the Copilot icon or option. (This may also be referred to as "Bing chat" or "Discover" in some versions of Edge.)
  • Start Using Copilot: Once Copilot is open in the sidebar, you can begin typing your queries or requests into the chat interface to interact with the AI. Use Copilot to get assistance with summarizing web content, searching for information, generating content, and more.

Microsoft isn't stopping at just Bing and Edge with AI, it's also integrating the intelligence into Microsoft 365 as well. Known as " Copilot " this is a tool to help people with creating documents, reading and summarizing emails, crafting presentations and more besides.

"... more intelligent (and actually useful) alternative to the classic Microsoft Office assistant Clippy."

Think of it as a much more intelligent (and actually useful) alternative to the classic Microsoft Office assistant Clippy. Copilot can be used throughout Microsoft's Office suite. It can assist in Microsoft Teams , Outlook, PowerPoint and Word. So, whether you need help managing a PivotTable in Excel or keeping on top of your inbox, Copilot will be there to help you out.

Microsoft presented some of the powerful functions of Copilot and what it can do. This includes helpful things like quickly summarizing long email threads or analysing great swathes of spreadsheet data.

Key features in Microsoft 365 Copilot

One of the most powerful demos of what Microsoft Copilot can do is demonstrated with Copilot being used in Excel (see the video above). You can use this AI tool to analyze your data and then do things like look for trends in particular data sets, create new sheets and graphs based on it and even explain its workings and how it came to those findings.

Copilot has different uses in several of the Microsoft365 apps:

  • Copilot in Microsoft Outlook -- using Copilot in Outlook lets you be more efficient. It will help summarize long email chains and help you respond to them too. You can also use it to quickly flag important messages or do simple things like get help with the tone of your messages and wording.
  • Copilot in Microsoft Teams -- in Teams Copilot can help you interact with colleagues and plan things. It can help with setting agendas, organizing discussion points from meetings and formulating action points as well. It can even help with things like meeting summaries for those who missed the meeting.
  • Copilot in Microsoft Word -- when writing, Copilot can help create drafts of documents as well as help with rewriting sections, improving the tone of your writing and summarizing text.
  • Copilot in Microsoft PowerPoint -- here Copilot can be used to transfer your ideas into decks and can be used to add speaker notes to presentations as well.

Microsoft 365 Copilot is still in the early stages , but on Nov. 1, 2023 it finally started a rollout to Microsoft's enterprise customers. This unfortunately means that it's still not available for casual users of Microsoft's office suite, and the company only says that it'll be available to consumers at a later date.

At its Build event in May 2023, Microsoft introduced the version built directly into Windows 11 : Windows Copilot.

With Windows Copilot, you can open up a chat window directly from the desktop and ask Copilot to help you with tasks or retrieve information. The difference here is that it's built directly into the operating system, so it has access to system controls and documents, as well as the ability to open and control applications.

Microsoft's demo showed Windows Copilot setting the system to dark mode, snapping windows into place and summarizing a business plan document. It's even able to recommend music, open Spotify and begin playing it.

A lot of Microsoft's Build presentation focused on plugins and how third-party developers can integrate with Windows Copilot, so we expect the AI's capabilities to expand as the platform matures. Currently, Microsoft says that 50 plugins are available, but thousands more are on the way.

Windows Copilot launched in beta in June 2023 as part of the Windows 11 Insider preview, and was finally delivered to Windows 11 users on Sept. 26, 2023 via a Windows Update.

With all the advancements that Microsoft is cramming into its Copilot project, a paid subscription-based model for that feature was inevitable. In a new blog post explaining the newest update for Copilot, Microsoft introduced its Copilot Pro plan, for individual users.

The Copilot Pro subscription is aimed at individuals who want to utilize Copilot across multiple devices and have the quickest access to the newest features and AI models. Here are the most important changes that Copilot Pro introduces:

  • Connected Copilot experience -- can understand contextual searches between all the devices and apps that you use Copilot on.
  • Access to Copilot in all the supported apps : Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote with a Microsoft 365 subscription.
  • Priority access to the newest AI models. Copilot Pro subscribers will have priority access to the newest AI models , such as the latest GPT-4 Turbo and optimized performance.
  • Better AI image creation tools with Image Creator for Designer.
  • Copilot Pro also adds the ability to create a personalized Copilot GPT in the Copilot GPT Builder tool for a custom AI experience.

Copilot Pro cost

You can subscribe to Copilot Pro right now on Microsoft's dedicated website . The subscription costs $20 per month for a single user.

Microsoft is currently steadily rolling out its Copilot companions to many of its apps.

However, the company also has many more types of AI in store for different kind of uses and clients. Its new Loop app uses AI to help facilitate working together. There are also different Copilots for enterprise users, as well as one baked into Windows 11.

Here are some of the release dates of Microsoft's different Copilots:

  • Microsoft Copilot: First released in February 2023 (renamed to Microsoft Copilot in November 2023).
  • Windows Copilot: Started rolling out in September 2023 with a Windows Update for Windows 11.
  • Copilot for Microsoft 365: Started rolling out for enterprise customers in November 2023.
