The Indian Army is one of the most powerful armies in the world. The peace that our nation enjoys today is bestowed on us by the dedication and hard work of our Indian soldiers. The Indian Army is one of the three armed forces of our nation. The Indian Army ensures national security against land-based external hostilities and other internal emergency cases such as natural disasters. The Indian Army is the second largest standing troop in the world, with nearly 1.45 million active military personnel. The motto of the Indian army is ‘Seva Paramo Dharma’ and it means ‘Service is our prime duty’.

The Indian Army is a major constituent of national power. It is the biggest voluntary military force in the world. The Indian Army is also one of the biggest contributors to United Nations peacemaking operations. India has participated in various United Nations Missions all across the world. So far, our Army has provided 15 Force Commanders, two Military Advisors, one Deputy Military Advisor to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, two Divisions Commanders and eight Deputy Force Commanders. All these efforts have resulted in exceptionally improving the pride of our Indian nation. Let’s pay homage to our Indian heroes for all their great sacrifices. And without much deliberation, let’s agree with the words said by Napoleon Bonaparte – “The Army is the true nobility of our country.”

Indian soldiers are the true heroes of our nation. They guard our national borders day and night, and sacrifice their lives to protect us from the attacks of enemies. Indian soldiers are true patriots who devote their lives to upholding the pride of our nation. During their service, they are subjected to multiple encounters. That is the reason behind their vigorous training. They are taught army values such as loyalty, respect, duty, honour, selfless service, courage, and integrity. Soldiers lead a very disciplined and tough life in the military camps. They will be asked to perform rigorous tasks to strengthen them both physically and mentally. Fighting wars to meet external aggression, managing internal security and resolving internal threats, force projection, conducting peacekeeping operations or providing military assistance to friendly foreign countries, and rendering humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and aid to civil authorities are some of the main duties performed by the Indian soldiers.

In the interest of world peace, Indian soldiers have participated in and initiated a number of operations all around the world. They have marked their presence in eight out of fourteen United Nations missions worldwide for peacemaking. Over 5,400 military personnel are currently deployed in various missions in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lebanon, South Sudan, Golan Heights, Syria, Western Sahara, Abyei and Cyprus. The gallant actions of Indian soldiers have earned them respect from the United Nations, the international community and the local population.

Being an Indian army officer, one is meant to subsume their persona under a very demanding but explicit code which states that, “THE SAFETY, HONOUR AND WELFARE OF YOUR COUNTRY COME FIRST, ALWAYS AND EVERY TIME. THE HONOUR, WELFARE AND COMFORT OF THE MEN YOU COMMAND COME NEXT. YOUR OWN EASE, COMFORT AND SAFETY COME LAST, ALWAYS AND EVERY TIME.” For them, their service to the country is more important than anything else. They are undoubtedly the real superheroes of our nation.

Indian Army Day is celebrated annually on 15 January. It is celebrated to commemorate the replacement of General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander in Chief, by Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa, the first Indian Commander in Chief of the Indian Army in 1949. Army Day celebrations are conducted all over India. Military shows and parades are conducted in the headquarters on this day. The main Army Day parade is conducted in the Cariappa parade ground in Delhi cantonment. Some of the nation’s prestigious awards like the ‘Gallantry Awards’ and ‘Sena Medals’ are awarded to the patriots on this day. People all over the nation mark Army Day as a day to honour the valiant soldiers of our country. India celebrated its 74th Indian Army Day on 15 January 2022 in New Delhi.

Essay On Indian Army

The Indian Army was formed in 1895 by The East India Company. It was earlier called the British India Army, and after independence, on January 26’ 19501950, it was renamed as the Indian Army. The Supreme Commander of the Indian Army is the President of India, and a four-star general is appointed as the Chief of the Army Staff. President Draupadi Murmu is the current Supreme Commander of the Indian Army, and General Manoj Pande is the current Chief of Army Staff. With 1,237,117 soldiers and 960,000 reserve troops, it is the largest standing army in the world in terms of numerical superiority.

Formed in 1895 by The East India Company as the British India Army, later re-named Indian Army on January 26’ 1950, Indian Army is the land-based wing of the Indian armed forces. January 15 is celebrated as Army day in India every year.

President Draupadi Murmu, the President of India, is the current Supreme Commander of the Indian Army, and General Manoj Pande is the current Chief of Army Staff. Lieutenant General K. M. Cariappa was the first commander-in-chief of the Indian Army. It is the largest standing army in the world in terms of numerical superiority, with 1,237,117 soldiers and 960,000 reserve troops. The headquarters of the Indian Army is in New Delhi. The Indian Army conducts drills and operations throughout the year, and some of its operations are also conducted in partnership with other nations. The Kargil war, the Indo-Sino war of 1962, and the 1967 Sino-Indian conflict were conflicts where the prowess of the Indian Army was seen in repelling the attacks and safeguarding our borders. This helped to establish India as a dominant force in Southeast Asia, courtesy of the Indian Armed Forces. The Army, along with the Navy and the Airforce, have relentlessly helped maintain peace and prosperity in India, which has contributed to India being a great economic and military power.

The East India Company formed a military department to protect its territories in 1776. Initially, it was composed of British officers commanding soldiers recruited locally in India. The Indian Army, as it is known today, came into existence on 26 January 1950. Here are a few points to note about the Indian Army.

Enrolment in the Indian Army is voluntary, and unlike other countries, it has never been imposed forcefully.

Due to its large size, the Indian army is divided into various regiments like the Sikh regiment, the Maratha regiment, and the Gurkha regiment. This was done to manage and deploy the army easily in terms of conflict. Its motto is “Service Before Self”. There are six operational commands and one training command.

Its headquarters are in New Delhi. Currently Smt. Draupadi Murmu is the Supreme Commander of the Indian Army, and General Manoj Pande is the current Chief of Army Staff. We celebrate Army day on January 15 every year.

The Indian army also conducts peace-keeping operations for the United Nations and other countries abroad. We have the largest standing army in the world in terms of numerical superiority.

Drills And Operations

The Indian Army conducts drills and operations throughout the year, and some of its operations are also conducted in partnership with other nations. The most prominent drill of the Indian Army was Operation Brasstacks, conducted from November 1986 to January 1987 near the Pakistan border.

Indo- Pakistan War (1947) | The first major operation conducted by the Indian Army was the Indo- Pakistan war of 1947 which erupted due to tensions between India and Pakistan over the accession of Jammu and Kashmir. Since then Indian Army has been instrumental in neutralising terror groups and maintaining peace with the country.

India at the time of partition had more than 500 princely states, and of these princely states, Hyderabad and Jammu- Kashmir was reluctant to join India. The Maharaja of Jammu Kashmir finally acceded to the Union of India, and the Indian Army was called in for assistance against the Pakistani army intrusion in Jammu and Kashmir.

Accession Of Hyderabad | The Nizam of Hyderabad wanted to remain independent and was against joining the Union of India. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel negotiated the accession of Hyderabad to India after an invasion by the Indian Army named Operation Polo.

Other Significant Battles | The Kargil war, the Indo-Sino war of 1962, and the 1967 Sino-Indian conflict were some conflicts that established India as a dominant force in Southeast Asia, courtesy of the Indian Armed Forces.

Operations On Foreign Soil

There have been instances where the Indian Army has operated on foreign soil to maintain peace within neighbouring countries and nations. The 1971 Bangladesh war of liberation for the independence of east Pakistan from Pakistan was supported by the Indian Government. This war involved the Indian Army providing support to a Bengali freedom fighter group known as the Mukti Bahini, eventually leading to the liberation of Bangladesh. The Indian Army also supported the Maldives government during a coup against the incumbent government.

Fight Against Terrorism

The Indian Army has been capable of avoiding and responding to terror attacks. This was seen during the terror attacks in Mumbai in November 2008. The terrorists were neutralised with great efficiency, and hostages were rescued within a short period by the army. Surgical strikes were also conducted against terror camps by the army as part of its operations against terror groups and to achieve regional stability. Our soldiers fight at the borders so that citizens have a safe and stable life. The Indian army ensures the safety of India and its citizens through its operations and networking.

Speech on Soldiers

Soldier Speech in English

Our brothers, fighting for the nation, are the soldiers who are the protectors of this country. A soldier sacrifices their lives in order to protect a million other lives. The soldiers do not get to lead a very comfortable life every day and still they dutifully protect their own country, they carry their duty with a badge of honor and hence they are so committed towards it.

Speech on Indian soldiers is the main agenda of this write-up. We have structured the speech in simple yet elegant English.

Why should we all know about our Soldiers?

After the formation of nation-states, it became important to keep the defense in place for protecting the country from any external threats. The defense system is created by the soldiers trained to fight during physical combat. They fight with so much risk for their life that it cannot be compared with any other profession of ours. It is our duty to recognize the sacrifice they give to protect the National frontiers and also during the rigorous training they go through. Knowing about the hardship every soldier bears can inspire the young generations and children to work hard in their life.

The word soldier is a very ancient word, initially referring to the mercenaries fighting for a war. In modern times countries have established a well-structured and dedicated army that is ready for battles at any point in time. The other 2 defense systems  are 'the Navy' and 'the air force.' The trained men forming these two groups are also the soldiers of the country. The whole military system is well managed with a top-to-the-down command structure. Some soldiers serve until they retire from their position and some never get a chance to retire and sacrifice their life on the line of duty. That is why it is very important for us to recognize and appreciate our soldiers serving for the peace and development of our nation.

Students can learn many things from the Army of the country such as discipline, hard work, punctuality, dedication, determination, survival in any type of environment, and a lot more. So speech on the soldiers is very informative as well as inspiring for the students listening to it.

Long Speech on Soldiers

Honorable Principal, Respected teachers, and my dear friends, I greet all of you a very Good Morning and happy Independence Day.

On the eve of this auspicious day, I would like to dedicate my speech to our beloved brothers, the soldiers of Mother India. Today we are celebrating this day with such a great festive spirit, with peace in our mind, I am able to deliver my speech with great calmness and out of fear, people today will celebrate this day with a lot of enjoyment all these are possible as we know we are not vulnerable to the enemy or foreign attacks, as the borders are sealed by our brave soldiers. With this in our head that the soldiers are up there performing their duty, be it 3 in the sunny afternoon or 3 in the frosty cold night, we can peacefully do our chores or go for a sound sleep. For all these and for other innumerable gratitude that I feel within me, I would like to give a grand salute to all these fighters serving our nation.

We frequently hear the news that our Indian soldiers are fighting on the Indian borders all day and all night without any failure to protect the country from the attacks of terrorists and to protect the people of India. For this, we acknowledge and are very grateful to every soldier of this country for being the bravest heroes who go through the pain and struggles only to provide us with a peaceful life. It seems they have vowed to keep every single day of ours safe and secure.

For every soldier, the nation for which they serve comes first even before their own family. For their profession, the soldiers do not get enough time to spend with their families. A soldier never hesitates to sacrifice their own life for the safety of their nation. So, the families of these fighting soldiers always wait eagerly for their safe return to their homes.

The soldiers are constantly living under various life-threatening conditions. They remain unsure about when they will be able to return to their own home and meet with their family. In order to safeguard a peaceful night for us, the soldiers put their everything and for their motherland.

My heart is filled with respect and love and my eyes get moist for the splendid brave deeds of the soldiers and their sacrifices.

You must be aware of the fact that our country India, in the whole world has the second-largest Indian military force. These armed forces include the Indian Air force which is aerial warfare and the air space, the Army that is the inland bases, and the Indian Coast Guards, which are the Indian Navy.

The soldier’s disciplined life is dedicated in such a manner that will keep the soldier firm on their battlefields to fight against their enemies who try to harm the nation.

These soldiers protect us from all directions. In the land, the Indian Army protects us, in the water, the Indian Navy protects us and, while being in the air, the Indian Air Force protects us. The soldiers ensure our safety and security in all other possible ways.

Hearty Greetings to our teachers and to our special guests,

This speech is dedicated to our brave soldiers who are our country’s pride. They are the people who selflessly perform their duties if required lay down their lives in order to protect our countries so that the Indian citizens can lead a peaceful life every day.

In such extreme weather conditions, the benevolent soldiers keep a watch on our country’s borders, they do this to ensure that no one is attacking our Mother India. The soldiers in the borders lead an extremely disciplined life so that they are able to tackle literally any difficult situation in any condition.

If any person wishes to join the army, the person should be strong enough to face all the physical discomforts and all the mental challenges to be ready to face the enemy during real war situations.

The soldiers never fail to be ready every time to face the enemies when they attack our country. A soldier is a true patriot who never hesitates to sacrifice his/her own life for our country.

10 Lines on Soldiers

A soldier’s duty is to protect their own country in any situation

There are soldiers from different bases, like for the land, there is Army, for the air, there is Air Force and for the water there is Navy.

The soldiers lead a very disciplined and tough life, this is done so that they do not become physically weak during the big battles.

A soldier is a true patriot who dearly loves his country.

They go through tough training every day in order to be prepared for the difficult days during wartime.

The soldiers live in barracks during their training period.

The soldiers also help people during a disaster.

The soldiers are taught all kinds of survival tactics and strict discipline to maintain their mental firmness.

A soldier is duty-bound to his country and then to his family.

A soldier should be very strong in order to persist in the disturbances on the battlefield.

Every soldier is a true patriot of the country who lives to maintain a peaceful environment around our country.

Evergreen Lessons We Need To Learn From Our Armed Forces

Why The Armed Forces Are The Best Role Models For All Of Us .

The Indian Army has always inspired us to be our best. We look up to them not only to protect our nation but also for their impeccable qualities that make them stand out from everyone else. On the occasion of Republic Day, we couldn’t think of a better tribute than to learn life lessons from our real heroes. Here are seven evergreen lessons we can learn from the Indian Army.

1 – Discipline

First and foremost comes discipline. Without discipline, our lives would be completely messed up. Who better than the Indian Army to inspire us to lead our life with discipline? Their life consists of daily discipline, right from the time they wake up and make their beds to the punctual timing of their sleep and everything in between. Discipline is one of the biggest virtues one can imbibe from the Indian Army.

2 – Bravery and Confidence (to face challenges)

It’s important to showcase confidence and bravery when its required. Standing up for the oppressed, having confidence in yourself to secure your own and your loved ones future, displaying a confident outlook at work etc. are all skills that will take you further than you can ever imagine. You need only look up to our brave jawans for inspiration when it comes to both these qualities.

3 – Selflessness

Life is for two things – living and giving. Our jawans give up their families and civilian life in an instant when duty calls. This quality of selflessness and putting others first is something we can all learn from and emulate.

4 – Willingness to sacrifice

Our soldiers do not think twice before laying down their lives in service of the country. No wonder they command so much love and respect for their willingness to give the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. You don’t have to go that far in your daily life but making a few necessary sacrifices at home and at work can be a great asset that will take you places.

5 – Proper planning and strategy

No Army mission is conducted without proper planning and strategy in place. The reasons for this are obvious – no one wants to walk into a death trap. Similarly, we focus only on our daily needs and fail to strategise and plan properly for the future. This can be akin to a death trap, especially from a financial standpoint. Unless you invest in the right instruments and take adequate insurance in the form of term plans and other policies, you could be putting your and your loved ones lives in peril. Learn to plan properly and execute plans like the Indian Army does.

6 – Respect towards all

Oftentimes, we get swayed by media stories and our friends’ reactions to certain topics that ultimately leads to us losing respect for a certain group of people. Let us never forget that the very idea of India is unity in diversity. It’s an idea that the jawans of the country fight for on our borders every day. We can definitely fight for it in our own houses and vicinity and ensure that we respect each and every person as well as treat those who can’t talk such as animals and our environment with respect too.

7 – Determination

Don’t be the person who gives up at the slightest hint of discomfort. Instead, look up to the Indian Army and their never-give-up attitude and take lessons from them. Be determined in whatever you pursue and don’t give up until the mission is accomplished. Fight your discomforts the same way our Army fights its enemies and you will emerge victorious in the end.

If you’re all pumped to live your life like a jawan, here’s a video to inspire you even further.

Keep these seven pointers in mind next time you want to achieve anything in life , just as the Indian Army achieves its goals every time by practicing these traits.

Republic Day Speech in Hindi

As Hindi is the most widely spoken language in India, we have provided the Republic Day Speech in Hindi below for the convenience of Hindi board students.

Essay On Soldiers – 10 Lines, Short And Long Essay For Children

Priyadarshika

Key Points To Remember When Writing An Essay On Soldiers For Lower Primary Classes

10 lines on soldiers for kids, short essay on the life of soldiers for kids, long essay on soldiers for children, what will your 1st, 2nd and 3rd grader learn from the essay on soldiers.

A soldier is a commissioned person in the defence forces of a country. Soldiers have a rank in the nation’s army, air force, or navy. Kids can learn and get inspired by writing an essay on soldiers in English for classes 1, 2 and 3. It will also motivate kids to embrace traits like discipline and dedication.

Soldiers are trained for physical and mental strength. They pledge to serve the nation in any way possible. A soldier’s job is one of the most selfless jobs in the world, and it requires a lot of courage to leave your family and commit to protecting the country. When they say, “Not all heroes wear capes,” they refer to the ones in the soldiers’ uniform. Their sheer commitment and patriotism toward the nation makes them different from the crowd.

A soldier’s life is nothing ordinary, but it is extraordinary. They can survive any weather, disaster, or calamity and still have the strength to help the people of the country. Given below are some key points kids can keep in mind while understanding how to write an essay on soldiers.

  • An essay includes three main parts, namely the introduction, body, and conclusion.
  • The introduction should include how a soldier is an asset to our nation.
  • The body can include their training process and their duties towards the nation.
  • The conclusion should tell us about the struggles they face for our comfortable lives.
  • You can include some quotes and lines that talk about the strength of these heroes.

A soldier’s job is a very difficult one. They go through struggles so that we can sleep peacefully at night. Here are some lines that can help children write an essay for classes 1 and 2, which will also brief them about the importance of a soldier.

  • Every soldier is a distinctive member of the defence forces.
  • They are trained hard to face any difficulties.
  • They have great mental and physical health.
  • They are always ready to serve the nation when required, even during wars.
  • They lead a very difficult and disciplined life.
  • They have a remarkable presence of mind.
  • They are well-trained to use any weapon.
  • They make sure that every person in the country is safe and sound.
  • For a soldier, the country comes before anyone and anything.
  • We should always be proud of our soldiers.

A soldier’s life is full of adventure and danger. It isn’t easy to sum up their life in just a few words. Let us write a short and meaningful essay on a soldier’s life to guide kids in primary classes.

A person is never born a soldier. They go through lots of examinations and training to become a soldier. Soldiers vow to protect their motherland in any condition. They are never off duty; their vigorous training makes them so vigilant that it becomes their habit to be super active. They can even lay their life without a second thought for the country’s sake. This tells a lot about their courage and willpower. They stay away from their families all year long so that we can celebrate each occasion with our families peacefully. They have the stamina and determination to survive any emergency or calamity.

A soldier has indeed a very difficult life. As you read and watch more about their lives, it gets more difficult to put it in words. Here is a thoughtful essay for class 3 on the life of a soldier.

Every soldier has a normal childhood like us civilians. The only difference comes in the thought process. We think of becoming doctors, engineers, artists, etc., but the one who thinks of going to borders to serve the nation becomes a courageous soldier. It requires a lot of courage to choose this path. You cannot think of it as a career; it is a service to the nation. Their lives are full of struggles and hardships. Their selflessness is almost next to godliness. Almost every nation in the world has its line of forces that commissions many soldiers every year.

Importance Of Soldiers

The importance of a soldier cannot be described in a few words. Rather, it takes a large heart to understand the duties and roles of the soldiers. Soldiers on our border check on all kinds of trespassing activities by enemies. There are soldiers in the air, on water, and on the land. They are omnipresent to assure the safety of common people like us. They are given postings every few years, depending on their ranks and field. Soldiers travel from one place to another, but their agenda of keeping us safe remains constant. They ensure the smooth functioning of national safety and security.

What Are The Duties Of Soldiers?

Soldiers have innumerable duties to safeguard the country’s honour. Thus, they obey their commanding officers’ orders and ensure the battalion’s smooth functioning. Besides, they perform tasks assigned to them by their senior officers, complete them, and achieve their goals with their team.

Soldiers need to work in a team because teamwork makes them achieve their goals faster and more efficiently. For this, they keep themselves fit all the time to survive in adverse conditions. They wear clothing that distinguishes them from civilians but at the same time camouflages them from enemies in their field. They are highly trained to use all kinds of weaponry and transportation to survive a war. They help humanitarian causes by providing medical aid and food supplies in disaster-affected areas. One of the most important responsibilities of soldiers is when they take their oath, they promise to sacrifice their lives if required.

What Are The Challenges Faced By Soldiers?

A soldier’s life is full of challenges. These challenges require a lot of mental and physical strength.

1. Staying Away From Family

Soldiers spend a lot of time away from their families. They miss out on many happy and sad occasions in their family while serving the country.

2. Rigorous Training

Once a person passes the tedious process of interviews and examinations, he/she is sent for a rigorous training process to become a soldier. The training process has many exhausting activities, but they still get up every day for the same drill with the same enthusiasm to serve the country.

3. Adverse Weather Conditions

Soldiers are often posted to places with unpredictable weather. They have to survive through the biting cold, scorching heat, heavy rains, or any harsh weather conditions. Many places are not easily approachable, which sometimes leads to an insufficient supply of necessities and weaponry.

4. Constant Transfers

One of the biggest challenges soldiers go through is transfers. They need to serve at different postings at different locations. Some soldiers enjoy this process, and some find it difficult to move as it hampers their family setting and stability.

5. Always Active

Being a soldier is tough for any person. They need to be attentive all the time. Sometimes, it comes at a cost of their rest and sleep too. In the wake of war or calamity, they need to work extra hours.

After reading the essay on a soldier’s life, the kids will understand that their comforts are gifts from our brave soldiers. It will give them insight into their lives and inspire them to do well in life. It will encourage them to do something to make our soldiers’ lives easier. It will give them a sense of pride and patriotism. An essay on our brave soldiers can be a life-changing moment for children.

The life of a soldier isn’t easy. By acknowledging their work, we can behave as responsible citizens and help our country grow and flourish. We should empathise with soldiers and their families who give up so much for the sake of our comforts and the protection of our country.

Shruthi Kumar ’24, Senior English Address: “The Power of Not Knowing”

Amid divisions and uncertainties, finding “space for empathy, solidarity, and a willingness to listen”.

Return to main article:

Law School graduates in black caps and gowns cheer

As prepared for delivery. For Kumar’s additional remarks, please read the accompanying article .

The Power of Not Knowing

Today, we are celebrated for what we know. In fact, for most of our lives, we’ve learned to feel a sense of accomplishment from the awards, accolades, and honors that lined our childhood homes. How much we knew and how we leveraged it got us far. It got us here. But today, I want to convince you of something counterintuitive that I’ve learned from the Class of 2024: the power of not knowing.

I grew up in the Great Plains of Nebraska alongside cattle ranches and cornfields. As the eldest daughter of South Asian immigrants, I was the first in my family to go to college here in the US. There was a lot I didn’t know. When it came time, I asked my parents how to apply to colleges. They too said, “I don’t know.”

The words “I don’t know” used to make me feel powerless. Like there was no answer, and therefore, no way. As if I was admitting defeat.

From Nebraska to Harvard, I found myself redefining this feeling of not knowing. I discovered a newfound power in how much I didn’t know. I didn’t know a field called the “History of Science” even existed. I now find myself a graduate of the Department. In my freshman year of college, for the first time in my life, I was taught by a professor of color. A Historian of Science who made clear to me that history is just as much about the stories we don’t know as the stories we do.

In the History of Science, we often look for what is missing. What documents are not in the archives and whose voices are not captured in history? I’ve learned silence is rarely empty, often loud. What we don’t know can sometimes tell the most powerful story.

I learned this not only in the classroom, but also from the Class of 2024. In reflecting on our collective journey at Harvard, I’ve learned it's often the moments of uncertainty from which something greater than we could have ever imagined grows. Our class has experienced more than our fair share of the unknown.

Our first year, during COVID, we didn’t have Annenberg to meet 100 people in an hour and walk out remembering 5 names. We didn’t know what starting Harvard in the middle of a global pandemic would be like. So what did we do?Jefe’s became the new Annenberg, and we learned, in the midst of uncertainty, to connect differently, building quality over quantity in our friendships. In our sophomore year, Roe v. Wade was overturned and there was and still is, in many parts of the country, an omnipresent uncertainty in accessing reproductive healthcare. In our junior year, Harvard faced the Supreme Court and the decision to reverse affirmative action. Whether we realize it or not, we have been swimming in uncharted waters.

Which brings me to our senior year, a year on campus that has been marked by enormous uncertainty. In the fall, my name and identity alongside other black and brown students at Harvard was publically targeted. For many of us, students of color, doxxing left our jobs uncertain, our safety uncertain, our well-being uncertain.

Now, we are in a moment of intense division and disagreement in our community over the events in Gaza. I see pain, uncertainty, and unrest across campus. It’s now, in a moment like this, that the power of “not knowing” becomes critical.

Maybe we don’t know what it’s like to be ethnically targeted. Maybe we don’t know what it's like to come face to face with violence and death. But, we don’t have to know.

Solidarity is not dependent on what we know, because “not knowing” is an ethical stance. It creates space for empathy, solidarity, and a willingness to listen.

I don’t know – so I ask. I listen. I believe an important type of learning takes place, especially in moments of uncertainty, when we lean into conversations without assuming we have all the answers. Can we see humanity in people we don’t know? Can we feel the pain of people with whom we disagree?

As we graduate, what we know , our material knowledge, may not matter so much anymore. The truth is, it’s what we don’t know and how we navigate it that will set us apart moving forward.

Uncertainty is uncomfortable. But I encourage you to dive into the deep end of discomfort, and as you do, bring with you a Beginner’s mind, an ethic of not knowing.

As Emily Dickinson had said, “Not knowing when the Dawn will come, I open every Door.”

Thank you, and Congratulations Class of 2024!

Indian American student dramatically goes off-script at Harvard graduation

Shruthi Kumar

“The students have spoken. The faculty have spoken. Harvard, do you hear us?” graduating senior Shruthi Kumar says.

Shruthi Kumar, an Indian American Harvard University senior chosen to deliver the English commencement address, dramatically went off script Thursday to slam the school for punishing more than a dozen of her peers for their activism.

During her speech—which was titled “The Power of Not Knowing”—Kumar drew out a piece of paper containing off-script remarks hidden up the sleeve of her crimson gown, the Daily Beast reported.

“As I stand here today, I must take a moment to recognize my peers—the 13 undergraduates in the class of 2024 that will not graduate today,” Kumar said sharply reprimanding the university leaders.

She was referring to the 13 students who had been denied the opportunity to walk at commencement over the sanctions they’d received for participating in campus pro-Palestinian protests.

“I am deeply disappointed by the intolerance for freedom of speech and their right to civil disobedience on campus,” she was quoted as saying. “The students have spoken. The faculty have spoken. Harvard, do you hear us?”

“Harvard, do you hear us?” she repeated.

In response, Kumar received a standing ovation from the crowd, including some of the faculty, according to the news outlet. The rest of her remarks covered the war in Gaza, the experience of being doxxed for her views, and what she characterized as attacks on free speech and free expression.

Kumar was one of three students who won the honor to speak at graduation through an annual contest hosted by the university. In a Harvard Gazette feature on her and the other winners, Kumar previewed a very different message that was more anchored in the personal than the political: She spoke of embracing change in the context of her own decision to switch from a pre-med career track to a path in public health.

“At the end of the day, I think we owe it to ourselves to listen to that voice inside that tells us, ‘Oh, this is what I’m passionate about,’” Kumar said then.

But Kumar is also an accomplished yogi who focuses on mental health practice and mindfulness. Ahead of her speech, with its message to embrace the chaos, she told the Harvard Gazette that her remarks would be about the “conscious shift you must make” to adapt in times of uncertainty.

“We are all people walking through the world, not really knowing what’s going to happen,” she said. “But the power of not knowing is about how you can turn that space of fear and anxiety into something that is empowering, uplifting, and exciting.”

Kumar’s fiery indictment of her school was the latest in a wave of protests at Harvard’s commencement ceremonies, sparked by its highest governing body’s decision to deny a faculty-led action that would allow 13 students who participated in pro-Palestinian protests to walk at their commencement ceremony, the Daily Beast noted .

On Thursday morning, several protesters silently held up a banner calling attention to the suffering in Gaza and rallied in support of their peers who had been prevented from receiving their degrees.

New Education System in India Speech

How important is education for you? For an individual, education lays the foundation for a secure future. You can get a satisfying job, learn and hone new skills, and live a peaceful life. But when it comes to the education system, the entire country or a specific region is affected, sometimes in a good way and sometimes… The Government of India launched a New Education Policy in 2020 to provide universal access to quality education. The policymakers believe that this new education system is a game changer for the country’s continuous economic and social development. Today, we will discuss the new education system in India speech in three different ways.

Ans: Good morning, respected Principal Sir, teachers, and the bright future of this country. Today, I stand before you all to present my speech on the new education system in India. Today’s youth are smart and quick learners. We can learn quickly and understand a large amount of data in a short period of time. A person who is educated, smart, and a quick learner can become a great asset to his or her family and the county.  Before the implementation of the Education Policy 2020, education in India primarily focused on access and equity in education. The objective of the new education policy is to develop smart and responsible Indians who are capable of making smart decisions and can become a source of inspiration for others.

Ans: The Government of India launched the New Education Policy in 2020 to provide universal, high-quality education to everyone, regardless of religion, race, caste, or gender. The policymakers believe that this new education policy is the best way to develop and maximize India’s rich talents and resources at individual and societal levels. According to 2023 government records, more than 50% of India’s population is aged below 25, making it the youngest country in the world. The global demand for skilled workers is on the rise and with the developments in technology and artificial intelligence, many unskilled jobs are vulnerable to machines and modern technology.

Ans: Education refers to the ability to understand the difference between right and wrong. Education is crucial for a country’s overall development. Education can make individuals and countries self-reliant. Education can make us responsible citizens. Education is a powerful tool to achieve life goals. Inclusive education promotes equality and social justice. Education and learning ensure continuous personal and professional development. Education encourages cultural understanding and tolerance Education can help fight poverty and elevate economic prosperity. An effective education system and a robust plan are necessary for a country’s overall development.
